00:00:00.000 The reason we have to stand up for Ottawa is to demonstrate the way this country is supposed to work.
00:00:04.980 We are not a lower level of government.
00:00:06.980 We're not a subordinate level of government.
00:00:08.940 We are an equivalent level of government.
00:00:10.620 They've got powers.
00:00:11.480 We've got powers.
00:00:12.320 They need to stop invading our jurisdiction.
00:00:14.980 They pass laws that are unconstitutional.
00:00:17.820 They are operating in a lawless way.
00:00:20.620 And then it creates economic and private sector uncertainty.
00:00:23.500 They force us to go to court.
00:00:25.400 It takes four years for us to get a decision.
00:00:27.620 And then they think that they can go and ignore the court anyway.
00:00:30.440 And I know not everyone was persuaded when I brought through the Alberta Sovereignty Within the United Canada Act,
00:00:38.060 but it was never about invading federal jurisdiction.
00:00:42.000 It was putting up a shield so they stop invading ours.
00:00:45.120 And I've been quite interested to see, and I knew I had to be judicious in its use,
00:00:49.660 but these net zero power regulations are a principal example.
00:00:55.060 They don't have expertise in developing electricity.
00:00:59.340 We do.
00:01:00.000 I know that our grid is under stress.
00:01:02.580 We have had 10 level 3 alerts in the past 18 months because we were stressed.
00:01:08.400 We don't have anyone willing to build natural gas power plants because the emissions reduction the feds are expecting of them
00:01:15.900 are so stringent that no CEO is going to take the risk that in 2035 someone's going to go to jail if they don't achieve them.
00:01:23.360 So these are the reasons why we had to take that kind of stance.
00:01:26.220 So I understand that these are challenging things.
00:01:28.700 We're a fairly bold government, and I'm hoping that by taking bold decisions and demonstrating that there's some wisdom behind it that we'll be able to continue to defend everything that we have that's going here.
00:01:39.660 And I'm just looking forward to having a really strong Alberta.
00:01:43.180 I think that we're ascendant.
00:01:44.740 This is our decade, and I can't wait to tell our story.
00:01:47.140 I'm curious.
00:01:48.100 I can't wait to tell our story.
00:01:52.500 I'm curious.
