00:00:00.640 Getting on to another tradition that's coming up.
00:00:02.920 And again, there's some people who have problems with that one as well.
00:00:05.120 But I think most in Calgary celebrate it.
00:00:07.120 But our Calgary Stampede is coming up here.
00:00:10.360 Yahoo.
00:00:12.160 Such enthusiasm.
00:00:14.720 Come on, you're going to be cosplaying next week.
00:00:17.260 Corey, I've been covering the Stampede now for like four decades.
00:00:24.060 It's hard for me to get excited anymore.
00:00:25.860 But I know people are, our young reporter from out east, Jonathan.
00:00:30.820 He's looking forward to trying prairie oysters for the first time.
00:00:36.160 We'll see how that goes.
00:00:38.840 You know, you always know if you're a true Calgarian, you get out of town for these two weeks. 0.99
00:00:44.960 If you like fun and having parties and paying a lot of money for a corn dog, then yeah, it's a great time.
00:00:52.400 Parade's always great.
00:00:53.400 So, yeah, I'm just not a Stampede guy.
00:00:57.200 But, you know, don't take my word for it.
00:00:59.520 If you haven't been there, it's certainly fun.
00:01:02.460 Certainly eye-opening for the first-time visitors.
00:01:05.780 But I would be a 40th-time visitor.
00:01:08.340 So I know where every mini donut store is.
00:01:11.500 I know where every washroom is. 0.99
00:01:13.640 You know, it's not for me personally.
00:01:16.100 But I know others that love it.
00:01:17.440 I tell you what, I am for anything that gives people a chance to blow off some steam, get out, and have some fun.
00:01:26.220 I understand everything you've said.
00:01:28.400 And as I say, my wife and I are out of town on a wedding anniversary.
00:01:32.360 So I'm not going to be there to live my own words.
00:01:35.280 But one of the sad things about living in this country at the moment are the things that we have just been talking about.
00:01:44.620 Everything is designed to be serious, to make you think about who you are and where you came from,
00:01:51.400 and whether your great-great-grandfather should have ever got on the boat.
00:01:57.540 We overthink stuff in Canada.
00:02:01.200 And it's by design.
00:02:02.360 It's deliberate.
00:02:03.100 It's a political ploy.
00:02:04.460 People derive political power from heaping guilt upon us.
00:02:09.820 Well, I say let's have a little less guilt and a hell of a lot more fun.
00:02:14.560 Go drink a few beers.
00:02:15.640 Just don't drive when you're drinking, but go out, have fun, and a good time at this Calgary Stampede.
00:02:24.160 It's a great celebration.
00:02:25.640 I guess I'm just an old curmudgeon.
00:02:27.940 Well, I guess you are.
00:02:30.680 In which case, that makes me an endangered species, doesn't it?
00:02:33.160 Happy anniversary, by the way.
00:02:34.380 Oh, thank you very much.
00:02:35.320 To you and Judy.
00:02:36.140 Well done.
00:02:37.000 20 wonderful years.
00:02:38.540 20 good years for Judy, myself.
00:02:41.000 We're just giving that warning, too, because part of the funny, I mean, Calgary, the Stampede's kind of unique.
00:02:44.580 You know, there's festivals and cities all over the place, and there's not many, though, where the whole city kind of gets up and gets involved,
00:02:50.220 or retreats and hides whilst the youngsters go and party downtown.
00:02:54.740 But, you know, everywhere people can wear jeans for the week rather than their usual dress code,
00:02:59.320 or you're going to see me in my goofy cosplay outfit with my cowboy hat on and my shirt for the shows next week,
00:03:05.380 because it's the only time of the year I can get out of the tie and wear some jeans in here.
00:03:09.520 But it's like not that fun, that's all.
00:03:12.720 You know, Calgary, how many cities actually put on a citywide week of giving away breakfast?
00:03:20.120 Yeah.
00:03:20.600 You know?
00:03:21.140 It didn't.
00:03:21.660 It is the ultimate hospitality event.
00:03:24.320 It's unique.
00:03:25.120 Like, you don't see too many places where the whole city, you'll see, okay, our festival goes down here, or this, or there.
00:03:29.660 Aside from perhaps in New Orleans for Mardi Gras and the whole French Quarter goes bananas, Calgary's going to get a whole citywide.
00:03:37.260 Again, it is tiresome for some of us who've seen 40 or more of them, but it's just something, again, to enjoy and celebrate.
00:03:43.620 And a lot of cities, it's the envy of a lot of cities, even if we do have a mayor who also kind of said,
00:03:47.340 maybe we should be moving beyond this, but we should be moving beyond the mayor.
00:03:52.460 You don't hear any disagreement from me.
