It's the Queen's Platinum Jubilee and Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in the midst of a tour of the country celebrating the occasion, but is he even aware of it? Also, PETA has a new beef with the Calgary Stampede, and the MLS is cooling off.
00:00:00.000God save our gracious Queen. No, I won't force viewers to listen to too much singing, but it is the big day, the big kickoff of the Queen's 70th Platinum Jubilee today.
00:00:14.000And what scenes of pageantry we had in London this morning. And unbelievable. Nobody does pageantry like the Brits core, even old commercially Canadian like you can admit that.
00:00:25.200So our Amanda Brown has got to wrap up on the website already on what's happening across Alberta.
00:00:30.940There's things happening all over the province in celebration this weekend of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
00:00:38.220So check it out and maybe indulge in a celebration or two.
00:00:42.620Other stuff we've got on the website right now is those all those wacky guys from PETA.
00:00:47.680They've written a letter to Kevin Costner saying, hey, please don't come to the Stampede as as parade marshal because Stampede does nasty things.
00:00:55.200to animals. Well, it's utterly ridiculous. Nobody looks after their livestock better than than the Stampede.
00:01:02.880We've got a really good column from Dave Makachuk on the site right now.
00:01:06.680There was reports yesterday that Chinese fighter pilots were buzzing our one lone Canadian aircraft out patrolling around North Korean waters.
00:01:18.460And a Macachuk to call him basically talks about the sad demise of Canada's standing in the in the international world.
00:01:26.940We're no longer sort of considered a, you know, to be invited to the table.
00:01:31.980It's it's it's the Brits, it's the Australians and it's it's the Americans and nobody wants Canada on their team.
00:01:38.960So it's a very good and very, very sad read.
00:01:42.900Our Matthew Horwood in Ottawa has done a story on Bill Garneau.
00:01:47.180You'll remember him as the, I guess, disgraced former federal finance minister after the Wee scandal.
00:01:53.760He had a speech last night saying he's kind of worried about the direction that that Canada is going financially.
00:01:58.960So, so that's very interesting and Pierre Polyev table to private members bill, sort of asking for all the vaccine mandates on travelers to be withdrawn.
00:02:10.840Sadly, Corey, you know what happens to most private members bills.
00:02:18.240And our Mike Thomas has got the May MLS report on Calgary home sales cooling a little bit, but still still throbbing along nicely.
00:02:26.920So, so that's what we've got up at the moment.
00:02:30.020Our glorious leader, Prime Minister Trudeau, is at this moment out in the six-sicket lands handing out a billion dollars or more to settle a land claim there.
00:02:40.420So our Amanda Brown is is covering that.
00:02:42.960And we'll have that up on the website shortly, too, Corey.
00:02:46.200Yeah, you know, it's funny you bring that up.
00:02:48.120I have a poster I've had since I was a kid in Banff that was from Banff Indian days, which used to be held.
00:02:54.860It was a tradition for decades and decades.
00:02:57.360And 1977 was the very last one that was ever held.
00:03:00.460And this protest or protest poster depicted an image of Queen Victoria and Chief Crowfoot, you know, the original signing of Treaty 7 and the whole works.
00:03:10.840And either way, it was a celebration of the monarchy and the agreement at that time.
00:03:14.180Now, you know, we've got Trudeau just on his chronic apology tour.
00:03:19.080But getting on to that, I'm just wondering, has there been any acknowledgement of the Queen's Jubilee by Justin Trudeau?
