Western Standard - The Rant with Cory Morgan. September 28, 2020

00:00:00.000 Thank you.

00:00:30.000 Thank you.

00:01:00.000 Thank you.

00:01:02.000 Thank you.

00:01:06.000 Thank you.

00:01:08.000 Thank you.

00:01:10.000 Thank you.

00:01:12.000 Thank you.

00:01:13.000 Thank you.

00:01:15.000 Thank you.

00:01:17.000 Thank you.

00:01:18.000 Thank you.

00:01:19.000 Thank you.

00:01:20.000 Thank you.

00:01:21.000 I'll tell you why they should piss you off.

00:01:22.000 So.

00:01:23.000 I'm gonna get right to it.

00:01:24.000 Last week I started with something non controversial.

00:01:25.000 I'll go there again.

00:01:26.000 Trump.

00:01:27.000 Again.

00:01:28.000 Another reason to keep this man in office as president.

00:01:30.000 Look at these brilliant creations.

00:01:32.000 This art that will be lost if this man is no longer in office.

00:01:35.000 in office. Oh I know Joe Biden inspires some stuff too but this sort of

00:01:41.180 beautiful thing is just too much to behold. I got to keep seeing it for four

00:01:44.420 more years. Now I really want to hit on cancel culture this week though because

00:01:48.500 with our polarized politics people are trying to shut down debate discussion

00:01:54.160 exchanges on every level particularly again of course when it comes to

00:01:57.800 conservatives and I want to look at the man with the top podcast on earth just

00:02:03.000 about Joe Rogan. He's been running it for years he gets something like 300 million

00:02:08.400 downloads a month. Spotify recently bought his show a big step up for a hundred

00:02:13.920 million dollars. Now Joe Rogan continued to be Joe Rogan. The reason he built that

00:02:18.420 tremendous giant audience he has is because he speaks his mind. His mind might

00:02:23.220 not always be the most rational or non-offensive thing to get over. He also

00:02:28.320 has controversial guests on a lot. That's what makes him interesting. That's why

00:02:32.040 hundreds of millions of people have downloaded his show. So what's

00:02:35.400 happened? Well the woke staff at Spotify are threatening to strike. They're saying

00:02:40.160 we can't handle working for a company that has this man on here. We're gonna

00:02:44.580 strike, we're gonna leave, censor him, get him under control or we're leaving. So

00:02:49.260 Spotify as this National Post article says has a dilemma on whether or not to

00:02:54.800 censor his podcast or call it free speech. I suspect that Joe's got a pretty good

00:02:59.660 contract and if they try to censor it he's probably gonna get out of it with

00:03:02.600 his hundred million or a big chunk of it and then he can just start up again

00:03:05.300 elsewhere. His fans will follow him so I don't see where this is a dilemma. Leave

00:03:09.480 him the hell alone. And if somehow he submitted to being censored like that, 0.94

00:03:14.340 semi-cancelled, he's going to lose his listeners and followers. That's the reason

00:03:19.040 people tuned into him in the first place. Part of what's got them so pissed off at

00:03:23.060 Rogan as well though is he's doing what a lot of conservatives are doing and

00:03:27.020 they're leaving California in droves because the socialism and disasters and

00:03:32.900 lack of police and homelessness and just general outcomes that you always get

00:03:36.380 with decades of liberal governance have gotten to them. The Daily Wire with Ben

00:03:41.120 Shapiro moved to Texas because Texas is still that bastion of freedoms that

00:03:45.440 appreciates these sorts of things and look at that home Joe bought himself.

00:03:49.040 $14.4 million dollars a Lake Austin mansion in Texas. Good on him. I mean you

00:03:56.120 earned it. Keep earning, keep entertaining us and let's have a look at here's again

00:04:00.740 you know this just came out. This is on the standard at the news we carry we

00:04:04.520 cover these things. Dave Kneeler writes some fantastic pieces on there. California

00:04:08.720 says they're gonna ban gas-powered vehicles in 14 years and in fracking.

00:04:13.580 Now California's broke. I mean they're up shit creek. They're in a lot of trouble as 0.99

00:04:17.120 it's sitting fiscally much like the rest of the world and Canada's fast on their

00:04:21.260 heels. But one of their revenue generating areas, Holly was shut down these days, is

00:04:26.420 at least their their oil field. There's actually a lot of heavy oil in

00:04:29.420 California those you know hypocritical celebrities like to forget to mention 0.93

00:04:33.260 that. They need fracking though to keep those fields rolling so they're gonna 0.98

00:04:38.000 shut down their oil fields. 14 years a timeline. They're gonna ban gas-powered

00:04:41.960 vehicles. This is brilliant. This is a state that already screwed their electrical

00:04:45.740 generation so badly that they were having rolling blackouts going because they

00:04:50.060 couldn't keep up on air conditioning during heat waves. Now try to think

00:04:53.180 what's gonna happen if this mythical ban of gas-powered vehicles comes along and

00:04:58.400 you have tens of millions of electric vehicles trying to charge on that

00:05:01.700 already overloaded grid. They're gonna turn that that state into a third world

00:05:05.300 country. But you know maybe it's not such a bad thing. Bring it to the ground and

00:05:09.500 then we can buy in and I can finally get a retirement place with palm trees and a

00:05:12.980 surf at a fraction of the of the price of where it's sitting at. So staying on the

00:05:17.060 cancel culture though we've got a story a little closer to home with Ryan

00:05:20.480 Jesperson. For those not familiar with him he's what was a talk show radio host

00:05:26.960 630 Ched in Edmonton. People are all lighting their hair on fire because he

00:05:32.060 got fired from 630 Ched. At least the left is lighting their hair on fire and they

00:05:36.380 keep saying oh he spoke for the center. No he was a bloody left just quit pissing 0.99

00:05:39.260 around and beating around the bush. Look Daniel Smith comes to the right Ryan 0.98

00:05:41.540 comes from the left. He got canned. Part of it it sounds like was a battle he had

00:05:47.300 with Mike Nichol who's a controversial councillor a city councillor in Edmonton

00:05:52.600 and Jesperson called Nichol's staff chimpanzees and people twisted that into

00:05:58.780 saying it meant that Jesperson because apparently these staffers were not white

00:06:02.840 and he was using a racial term personally. I don't think that was

00:06:07.460 Jesperson's intent he was just planning on being an asshole and he's good at that. 0.99

00:06:10.820 Whether or not it was fire worthy I don't know but he did get fired and 0.99

00:06:15.140 there's not a lot of people gonna miss him. The thing that gets me with a Jesperson 1.00

00:06:19.520 and I'm not celebrating his loss of a job it sucks people are losing jobs all 0.94

00:06:23.180 over this is one more unemployed person but the hypocrisy. Ryan Jesperson reaped 0.96

00:06:27.780 what he sowed and here's a tweet he sent at me so this was when Don Terry was

00:06:34.020 getting wiped out for for a relatively innocuous comment and well just a

00:06:37.620 standard John Don Terry thing where he said you people and he got fired he got

00:06:41.280 shut down and people were discussing that and here's a tweet you can see from me

00:06:44.700 back in November I said it's sad I mean people don't understand that you don't

00:06:47.280 have to agree with something somebody says in order to support their right to say

00:06:50.420 it I mean it's a twist on that that long-held belief in in full free speech

00:06:54.300 Jesperson responds to me quote tweeting me you know says indeed also troubling out

00:06:58.480 people don't understand a freedom of expression doesn't equal freedom from

00:07:02.400 consequence well you sure figured that out didn't you Ryan so you know that high

00:07:07.380 horse sure must have sucked to fall off of and he went further in that same

00:07:12.240 discussion thread to say it's similar in the sense that I'm free and expect to

00:07:15.240 speak my mind with the caveat and specific contract language indicating I

00:07:18.960 guess you should have watched that contract a little more closely that I'll

00:07:21.760 be canned if I offend or alienate enough sponsors and listeners it's business

00:07:25.160 Cherry's job is to be controversial about hockey not immigrant Canadians well now

00:07:28.960 Cherry's job was to entertain and part of that was I mean if he was just

00:07:32.280 a dry hockey commentator he wouldn't have built that beautiful empire that he

00:07:37.920 had going on there I think in my view though the case is the same with both

00:07:41.700 these media outlets are losing a lot of money no matter what they're doing it was

00:07:44.940 pointed out to me that since in the last two years 630 ched and Ryan just

00:07:49.260 person that held the prime daytime hosting on that has lost a third of their

00:07:54.600 listenership in two years so there's some big issues going on yeah it's in the

00:07:58.860 contract if you offend people they can fire you I suspect that the chimpanzees 1.00

00:08:03.960 comment give him an excuse but the reality was they got to get rid of you

00:08:06.480 and try and get somebody in there who's gonna bring some listeners back is it

00:08:09.420 because they're in trouble and as Dean saying it looks good on just person yeah

00:08:13.100 well just person hasn't really endeared himself to a lot of people because he has

00:08:15.960 been a bit rough online but pay so am I so I'm not gonna fault him for that so you

00:08:20.620 know it's made a lot of people sad with him gone as you can see Rachel Notley and poor old

00:08:24.660 Gil McGowan here are looking real sad today too and part of it's because

00:08:29.400 they've lost Jesperson he was a strong ally of unions and and the NDP and he

00:08:33.920 certainly loved to to run at Kenny and and another such as hard as he could but

00:08:38.340 the reason that Rachel and Gil are really this sad today is that they

00:08:43.080 invested weeks and weeks in fear-mongering and telling Albertans that

00:08:47.220 Jason Kenny was gonna kill their children they're gonna kill grandmama oh life is

00:08:51.340 gonna come to an end because we're opening the schools the kids are gonna go to the 0.98

00:08:54.040 schools the COVID pandemic is gonna hit those schools sweep through their

00:08:57.820 teachers are gonna die it's gonna be catastrophe oh the friggin world's gonna

00:09:02.080 end they were sure that they caught Kenny in a corner and they were all ready to

00:09:06.400 jump all over and when the infections went wild well it's been a few weeks 0.97

00:09:09.800 since the schools opened up and ah shit cases are down the kids all went back to 0.98

00:09:15.040 school and the cases went down now what the hell is she gonna do well we're seeing 1.00

00:09:19.380 she just keeps going on about that fake corporate tax giveaway thing that she's 0.89

00:09:22.420 always hung up on and back to her old line but they lost out on what they

00:09:26.320 figured they were gonna set the tone for for the whole fall I'm sure they're

00:09:29.020 still crossing their fingers hoping to see some massive outbreaks that'll kill a

00:09:31.720 janitor somewhere in a school or something that they can jump on and

00:09:34.320 called Kenny a murderer but in the meantime it's just not happening because

00:09:38.020 the COVID pandemic is really not what it's been made out to be but one

00:09:42.280 pandemic or epidemic that's happening is addiction and we have seen in Alberta and

00:09:46.600 this is bad in a quarter there look at how the opioid deaths have spiked this is

00:09:52.900 with our safe consumption sites this is with mitigation and I'm not wholly

00:09:56.140 against those actually you know this is a big problem I'm not faulting any

00:09:59.560 particular individual what is happening is we got a lot of stressed people who are

00:10:04.120 now suddenly getting or have been suddenly getting two thousand a month and a

00:10:08.440 lot of them have invested into into drug abuse unfortunately and that does lead to

00:10:13.120 much more addiction and more overdoses as we're seeing right now this is a really

00:10:18.340 big problem opioid deaths are killing more people than COVID now if we spent

00:10:24.160 even half of what we spent pissing around with COVID on mental health

00:10:28.660 facilities and addictions treatment I suspect we'd have saved a hell of a lot

00:10:32.020 more people than what we're getting out of this this is trying to stop what it

00:10:36.000 really is turning out to be a bad flu that that really harms the elderly and the

00:10:38.860 vulnerable I mean it's still something dangerous but we've overreacted to it in

00:10:42.180 the mean pot time suicides opioid deaths and other things are rising we've got to

00:10:46.680 take a reality check here look at that spike that is disturbing it's embarrassing

00:10:50.280 and it's horrible to see these are people's children dying out there so I'll

00:10:53.820 get on to a good news thing Trump approved a 22 billion dollar railway

00:10:58.380 between Alaska and Alberta this is fantastic it really is the potential for 0.78

00:11:01.800 this you know I get tired of that high-speed rail futuristic crap between

00:11:04.860 Edmonton and Calgary this is a luxury a notion an idea but a functional railway

00:11:10.260 between Alaska and Alberta this is Alberta getting a new route to tidewater

00:11:14.760 finally for a number of products this can happen I mean yes petroleum petrochemical

00:11:20.200 products and you can see this this line would be starting up in the oil sands area

00:11:23.640 can be moved out to the coast that way things can be moved down as well when you

00:11:27.360 think that rail line can bring in shipping things from Asia ship them down

00:11:31.500 use Albert as a distribution hub and we can ship throughout North America

00:11:34.920 Winnipeg you know a rail hub as well I mean this line could really benefit

00:11:38.760 Alberta what's really is the way they drew that I worked four years in the

00:11:41.940 Arctic and I'd have to drive up there every year past Whitehorse but if you

00:11:44.460 look at that line the Alaska highway actually crosses in and out of the Yukon

00:11:48.840 territories and Northwest Territories in BC a couple of times before it gets up

00:11:52.100 there it's really rough terrain but this rail line they very carefully made sure

00:11:56.220 they're gonna cut that all into the Yukon and stayed the hell out of BC all 0.99

00:11:59.760 together this is a great little step towards Alberta's independence in a number of

00:12:03.720 ways whether it's a future fully independent Western Alberta or just again with our

00:12:07.800 battles with the increasingly socialist lower mainland BC we can get our 0.96

00:12:11.820 products right by those assholes and we won't have to worry about them anymore and 0.96

00:12:15.180 we can import products ports can bypass Vancouver and their other issues as well 0.97

00:12:20.220 and ship things through that rail line and get them down here hopefully this gets

00:12:23.760 built that's a very large project at 22 billion dollars they feel they're

00:12:28.380 bringing in private investors they've already done a lot of groundwork and

00:12:30.780 survey and made deals with a lot of the indigenous communities up there I mean

00:12:34.560 that's going to help along the line too for communities that haven't had many

00:12:37.860 industries now they've got a means to bring product to market if they've got

00:12:42.240 local resources so that's one good news story today and of course you know the

00:12:46.620 federal government is going to find some damn reason or another try and stop it 0.98

00:12:49.320 so we better get ready to protect this thing and soon so speaking of Ottawa 0.99

00:12:53.100 here's our moron-in-chief right now Justin Trudeau Pierre jr and yeah he wasted the 0.97

00:12:59.760 media's time wasted Canada's time with this post throne speech address to the nation he 0.99

00:13:07.560 he got all the media lined up promised it wouldn't be a political speech said you know

00:13:11.340 I've got some very important to go over typically if you address the nation in

00:13:15.120 Canada like that if a Prime Minister does it's over a constitutional crisis or

00:13:19.440 something to do with a war or at least something as big as dissolving Parliament

00:13:23.040 and calling an election what was it oh infections are up a little bit now let 0.98

00:13:26.760 me spend the next 15 minutes on political bullshit and bullshit it was so I hope 0.98

00:13:32.280 the media has learned a bit of a lesson to pandering to this guy unfortunately 0.99

00:13:35.640 dangles our tax dollars in front of the media to keep their goodwill but he

00:13:39.420 screwed them that night he got himself 15 minutes of free advertising right

00:13:42.560 across the nation Canadians tuned in thought something new was coming up it 1.00

00:13:45.840 wasn't but he did reiterate some of his stupidity I mean the throne speech all 1.00

00:13:50.460 that did was lay out spending in a way that is utterly terrifying massive 1.00

00:13:54.960 increases completely unsustainable and all based on debt I mean he's on that oh

00:14:00.240 it's just so cheap to borrow we'd be fools not to it is an NDP budget is coming

00:14:05.840 along the ways we're gonna be paying for it for generations it's been pointed out

00:14:09.300 that the kovat spending alone is coming up at ten thousand per man woman and child in

00:14:13.800 Canada did you if you have an average household of four people get forty 0.98

00:14:16.800 thousand dollars were the benefits from this so far I doubt it but you do have

00:14:21.280 forty thousand more in debt but let's listen to Justin talk about this debt

00:14:26.100 let's let them speak here we decided to take on that debt to prevent Canadians 1.00

00:14:31.620 from having to do it while we're dealing with this pandemic I don't want you or

00:14:37.980 your parent or your friend to take on debt that your government can better 1.00

00:14:42.960 her shoulder so does this idiot really believe his own crap I I fear he 1.00

00:14:48.600 actually does so he really does have this fiscal disconnect that is so far 1.00

00:14:53.520 move removed from reality that he thinks that government debt isn't our debt

00:14:57.900 it's still our friggin debt I mean he's getting better interest rates than my

00:15:01.340 credit cards are right now we'll see down the road but he just feels it's a

00:15:05.640 bottomless pit to borrow from he's shouldering the debt so you don't have to 0.85

00:15:09.480 what a hero you want to do that dissolve your friggin trust fund and give it to 0.76

00:15:13.620 the taxpayers that's how you can shoulder some of our debt Justin otherwise you're 0.99

00:15:16.920 just borrowing us into a bloody hole and try and save your ass and another term 1.00

00:15:21.060 from your minority government that you've already earned yourself so onto the fools 1.00

00:15:25.440 of that minority government I'll finish up I we've got yes she doesn't like the 0.96

00:15:31.660 name but she's earned it climate Barbie Catherine McKenna and she tweeted out

00:15:35.760 because what they aren't liking in government of course is is a lack of

00:15:38.460 control of the messaging that's why they dangle the media around like they have

00:15:41.400 you know with these addresses that's why there's a six hundred million dollar

00:15:44.400 media fund that's why the the CBC keeps getting over a billion a year to steal

00:15:48.240 advertising dollars from what few private outlets are still trying to fight for

00:15:51.840 them and here's Catherine going on I think there's a lot we can do but the

00:15:55.800 social media I was at a companies themselves need to step up we don't have to

00:16:01.200 regulate everything but if you can't regulate yourselves governments will and she

00:16:04.980 tagged the minister who'd also talked about licensing media outlets piss off

00:16:11.040 Catherine you know free media free speech is critical we don't need you guys

00:16:16.080 poking into that already got her as a candidate for my show to the week award

00:16:20.520 but oh since I chose her for that she went one step higher here 1.00

00:16:24.600 but you know I actually gave them some real advice I said that if you actually say it

00:16:29.460 louder we've learned in the House of Commons if you repeat it if you say it

00:16:32.640 louder if that is your talking point people will totally believe it so just go in

00:16:36.820 I wish that the party opposite would understand the cost of climate change right now one of the

00:16:44.840 hardest calls I ever had to do was to a rancher in Alberta whose whole ranch burned down

00:16:50.900 yes yes she's preaching she talked to ranchers the lady who says she rides a bike while she's wearing

00:17:07.960 those high heels apparently in the pictures but she admits in a bar basically that old line if you tell a 1.00

00:17:14.720 lie long enough loud enough over enough times people will believe it it was nice

00:17:20.000 to catch her in that cabinet moment you can see her lying in the House of Commons

00:17:23.220 quite emotionally but even that wasn't what got her the full chow to the week

00:17:27.320 this week no that was thanks to the post-millennial who found a video of our

00:17:31.960 virtue signaller in chief here Catherine McKenna had gone to Indonesia where she

00:17:38.540 attended an illegal cockfight and it shows in the video that they actually had to

00:17:43.160 bribe their way in because it's illegal they banned it Indonesia even though they

00:17:46.760 allow some pretty early things realize that it is so reprehensibly cruel to pit

00:17:52.160 a couple of animals to rip each other to death for entertainment and and betting

00:17:56.420 I mean they take razor blades to the feet of these roosters and let them rip 0.92

00:18:00.020 themselves to shreds well Catherine joined a group that actually bribed their 0.76

00:18:04.260 way in to see it she was so dedicated to seeing that and while she was at it they

00:18:08.160 stopped in and that's on the record as well and it is legal but she had a nice

00:18:12.260 meal of dog meat in a restaurant while she was there yes she likes talking about

00:18:17.000 National Pet Day and animal rights and every other kind of virtue signaling she

00:18:20.540 can but she literally has eaten puppies and we do know that the treatment of 1.00

00:18:28.020 dogs in these places where they eat them is a boring I'm not even fully against the

00:18:32.780 eating just about any animal but it's our obligation as humans to treat them as

00:18:35.660 humanely as possible before we do and those dogs are not treated well they're often

00:18:39.860 tortured to death but that didn't stop Catherine from having another experience like you know 0.53

00:18:44.600 it was probably important to her so that's earned her the Cho to the Week award for this

00:18:48.940 week I'm sure there'll be a lot more to rant about next week make sure to subscribe watch

00:18:53.720 for it it'll be somewhere around 7 30 ish whenever I get around to it next Monday we're

00:18:57.920 building our digital news on the Western Standard make sure to subscribe as a supporter

00:19:02.340 of the Western Standard we aren't getting anything from the Liberal government or Trudeau or Catherine or any of the rest and we're still

00:19:09.600 cranking right along and then giving some great news coverage and now what I like to

00:19:13.980 think some great ranting or at least for my sake on this video site so thanks to

00:19:18.680 those listening in and I'll see you on the next one
