00:00:00.000 Prime Minister Justin Trudeau backed the Canadian Security and Intelligence Agency,

00:00:18.780 and to be creative in their approaches.
00:00:21.140 But every step of the way, they are bound by strict rules, by principles,
00:00:25.300 and values that Canadians hold dear, including the Charter of Rights and Freedoms,
00:00:29.660 and we expect those rules to be followed.
00:00:32.620 The book claims that a CSIS agent smuggled 15-year-old Shamima Begum, 0.96
00:00:37.440 16-year-old Khadiza Sultana, and 15-year-old Amira Abais into northern Syria

00:00:45.440 CSIS met with the London Metropolitan Police's counterterrorism unit
00:00:49.260 to prevent the information from becoming public
00:00:51.940 that CSIS had trafficked teen girls to become Islamic State Brides.
00:00:56.620 Trudeau said the federal government will look into the allegations made by the book.
00:01:01.180 Trudeau also said,
00:01:02.140 There are rigorous oversight mechanisms that govern CSIS.
00:01:05.340 I know there are questions about certain incidents or operations of the past,
00:01:08.640 and we will ensure to follow up on this.
00:01:10.800 The book's author claims a CSIS agent took photos of their passports
00:01:14.600 and gave them to his Canadian handler.
00:01:17.060 When CSIS gave the information to the UK and the London Metropolitan Police,
00:01:21.140 the teens were already in the Islamic State-controlled area.
00:01:24.540 It is now confirmed that Sultana and Abais were killed
00:01:27.340 and Begum has been stripped of her British citizenship
00:01:30.260 but wants to return to the UK and lives in a refugee camp in Syria.
