On this episode of the Canadian Forces Radio Network's "Your Turn" show, I sit down with Lt. Col. Stuart Stewart to talk about his disappointment with the Queen s Commission and the lack of leadership from the Canadian Armed Forces. We also talk about the need for the public to stand up and speak the truth.
00:01:25.520In terms of the forces, I'm disappointed as well.
00:01:27.680I'm a commission officer of the crown, and I'm embarrassed, to be perfectly honest.
00:01:35.700The Queen's Commission means something to me.
00:01:37.540And it goes all the way back to the new model army, which replaced the barons in the 16th, 17th centuries.
00:01:45.500And there's an expectation of military leadership to stand in when the rule of law breaks down and parliament and the crown are unwilling to enforce it.
00:01:58.060Then there is a moral implication or a moral requirement of commission officers to stand up and act.
00:02:13.200That being said, I'm pretty sure, because I know a bunch of guys who are still serving, that there are a lot of people, a lot of guys in the military who don't agree with what's going on.
00:02:24.760Part of it for them is to figure out how to deal with it.
00:03:35.520And if people stand up, then those guys that are in the military, if they have the opportunity to present themselves, they know they then have the support.
00:03:41.480And it might be even a regional thing that an officer says, right, enough's enough, forms up his troops.
00:03:47.500Because let's face it, anyone below the rank of sergeant is on the side of the people.
00:03:51.860And, you know, if you had a full colonel or a brigadier stand up in front of his troops and say, right, I'm sick and tired of the intrinsic and alienable human rights of Canadians being violated.
00:04:04.180It's not happening in this province or that province anymore.
00:04:06.840And we're going to do what we can to stop it.
00:04:09.600I guarantee you, everyone will stand forward.
00:04:12.680I mean, and those that don't want to stand forward will probably stand forward anyway because they'll suddenly realize that everyone else is going that direction.
00:04:21.860It just takes strong leadership and it takes the right opportunity.
00:04:24.740And the way the public can support them is just to show how many, just to make sure that those guys understand what numbers are behind them.
00:04:31.700When they do have the opportunity to do something, that they've got the public support.
