Hello friends and welcome to today's video. Today I'm going to be talking about
00:00:04.320
one of my favorite arias. It's from La Nota di Figaro, which means The Marriage
00:00:08.520
of Figaro, and that's by Mozart. It's a really wonderful opera. It's long and it's
00:00:13.680
funny, but it is long. In this aria, the Countess is mourning that her husband
00:00:20.680
has been cheating on her, and she really has a lot of emotions about that.
00:00:25.320
It's, she's upset, she loves him still. The translation, let me pull that up.
00:00:31.080
Oh love, give me some remedy for my sorrow, for my sighs. Either give me back my
00:00:39.440
darling, or at least let me die. That's the whole thing, which you would think it's
00:00:46.140
hard to make like a two-minute song out of that, but she actually does, and Mozart
00:00:50.840
wrote that for her. Why do we care about this? Why is this something that matters?
00:00:54.240
It's a good question. So let's, uh, let's check it out. I've got the music in front
00:01:00.060
of me, and I'm just going to go through it. So it's actually really interesting
00:01:04.440
because you get to the middle of it, and she, uh, she kind of goes, let me die, and
00:01:10.440
the line of the music just slowly raises until it kind of sounds like a scream for
00:01:15.740
help, like a cry for help. And it's a really beautifully written aria. But why does
00:01:21.380
this matter to us? The opera continues by having the countess work with a few of her
00:01:27.120
servants to trick the count into making a, making a move on her in disguise as another
00:01:34.980
woman. So she ends up tricking her husband. But basically the point is for us, I think,
00:01:41.200
that feel your emotions, feel your pain, but then it's time to be proactive. So
00:01:47.300
obviously in her time, it's a little bit different, right? Because divorce wasn't as accepted,
00:01:51.900
and even though the countess is not a good guy, and he apologizes at the end, but he's
00:01:57.060
not really a good person. She can't really leave him. Um, so she has to do something different.
00:02:03.120
She has to take a different turn. But I think that for us, instead of trying to say, okay,
00:02:07.060
if your man cheats on you, just take action. That's not the point. The point is when something
00:02:12.080
bad happens to you, the best way, as far as like a breakup, I think, the best way to get
00:02:18.840
over it after having mourned the situation is to sit back and decide what you're going
00:02:24.800
to do next. Make plans. Because being proactive is always the best solution, at least in my
00:02:30.520
opinion, as somebody who likes to get going and do things. I think it makes a big difference.
00:02:35.480
So, Por de Amor is like an introduction to her pain, but because it continues forward,
00:02:41.980
the show continues forward, and by the end, she's actually resolved everything by her own
00:02:46.700
actions, that's the best thing of all. So check out the music video that's following this,
