Summary

In this episode, we are doing a cook dinner with me and I m making a recipe for Brussels Sprouts. These are one of my favorite veggie recipes to cook and they are super easy and delicious. I m planning on roasting them in the oven and serving them with a green glaze and a balsamic glaze. I hope you like them!

00:00:00.040 Hello beautiful ladies and welcome to today's video where we're going to be
00:00:03.960 doing a cook dinner with me now I know you guys have probably heard of get
00:00:10.480 ready with me's I've done a few of them on my channel we just do our makeup we
00:00:13.840 get ready together and we do a little bit of chatting so today I thought I
00:00:17.040 would do a cook dinner with me because I wanted to do a cooking video but I'm
00:00:20.880 having people over and I don't want to do a fancy recipe for you guys I figured
00:00:24.960 we could just make dinner we could chat and we'll just make dinner together I
00:00:28.760 apologize in advance if the audio in this video is a little bit off I am in
00:00:33.200 a new space when I record in my kitchen it's always a little bit hard to get the
00:00:36.560 sound exactly right because it's very echoey and so I'm hoping it sounds okay
00:00:41.240 but it may not sound perfect and so I apologize if that's the case but as you
00:00:46.460 can see we are in my kitchen this is where all of the magic happens no we cook a lot
00:00:53.960 of dinners in here and we're having some guests over tonight so I'm actually making
00:00:58.640 a good meal for them I'm starting off with Brussels sprouts my plan is to roast
00:01:05.720 them this is just one of my favorite recipes just for vegetables generally
00:01:10.520 and so I'm going to be roasting them in the oven so I just came up with a little
00:01:15.740 trick right now I am going to have a lot of ends for the Brussels sprouts and so I
00:01:21.160 figured I might as well just grab a little bowl and put all them in there and then I
00:01:24.860 can just toss them out so the way that I do Brussels sprouts is I'll generally
00:01:28.940 actually third them so I like to have like a slice in the middle because my
00:01:34.460 husband really likes them crispy sometimes they'll look a little bit burned but
00:01:38.360 actually I don't find that Brussels sprouts taste burned they might just
00:01:41.960 look burned and they are crunchy and delicious so I like to slice them into
00:01:46.940 thirds and then they get really crispy I just saw a bunny in our backyard I just
00:01:58.360 got so excited our sink overlooks a window into our backyard and we get so
00:02:03.500 many bunnies it's like the best thing ever seriously I love it so much makes me
00:02:08.600 feel like Snow White or something so sorry I got distracted my plan is to put
00:02:14.360 these in the oven I kind of sprinkle them with some olive oil and garlic powder
00:02:19.280 and onion powder and I just let those roast at like 425 for 20 minutes around
00:02:27.080 and they cook super well and they're super delicious and it's just really easy so
00:02:32.060 like I said the only fancy thing I do is instead of just slicing them in half I
00:02:36.500 slice them in thirds so that they get really crunchy and then I really just lie
00:02:41.520 them flat on the pan what are your guys's recipes for vegetables because I'll be
00:02:48.360 honest with you my husband really doesn't like a lot of vegetable dishes so I'm
00:02:52.260 always looking for new ones that he'll like and enjoy but it's a little bit hard
00:02:55.980 because you know for me I like to just have a salad and he won't know like he will
00:03:01.840 not do that so so instead I have to cook everything and so I'm always looking for
00:03:07.260 interesting vegetable recipes so if you guys have recommendations leave them in
00:03:11.760 the comments below now here's another question do you guys like Brussels sprouts
00:03:16.260 because that is like a thing that people are really polarized on some people love
00:03:23.340 Brussels sprouts will eat them no matter what and some people really hate them
00:03:28.320 and I know as a kid there was always like a running joke about Brussels sprouts
00:03:32.040 that Brussels sprouts were like gross my parents really didn't make them my mom
00:03:36.840 didn't cook them so I never had them until I got older and then when I did I
00:03:40.980 had them roasted and usually they have a balsamic glaze which is also delicious
00:03:45.180 and sometimes I'll do like a balsamic reduction but we're just gonna keep it
00:03:48.660 simple for tonight
00:03:53.020 the bunny is still out there sorry I keep popping over to the sink so that I can
00:03:58.560 rinse more Brussels sprouts because we're having two people over so it'll be four of
00:04:03.600 us and Brussels sprouts they shrink they're kind of like spinach they get
00:04:08.640 smaller when you cook them so it'll look like you have enough for a lot of
00:04:12.480 people and you really don't so it's like always really important to make more in
00:04:18.360 my experience I just threw this in the garbage bag so yeah I always make a ton of
00:04:23.400 Brussels sprouts but so the first time I had Brussels sprouts I really liked them
00:04:27.540 and then it became kind of a thing where I was like I'm gonna I'm gonna learn how to
00:04:31.320 cook them and so now I make them for us pretty regularly and I love them they're
00:04:36.900 really delicious so today's been a busy day I started putting out four videos a
00:04:44.280 week guys so keep an eye out for that and so it's just made my schedule a little bit
00:04:50.080 different because now I'm not putting out two videos a week like I was and then
00:04:54.660 I'm not putting out three videos a week like I was now putting out four videos so
00:04:57.900 I'm actually doing a lot of editing and a lot of filming which I love I actually
00:05:03.140 love editing I never thought I would say that I never thought I would be somebody
00:05:07.500 who liked the editing process but I actually really like it I really like
00:05:11.660 learning how to use the programs I really like cutting and making it look fun
00:05:16.680 and interesting it's actually a ton of fun I also really like just the whole
00:05:27.180 process the creative process of putting together my videos and putting together
00:05:31.980 thumbnails whoever thinks about the thumbnails when you look at a YouTube
00:05:36.180 video but once you start learning about YouTube more you realize that you have to
00:05:40.740 make interesting thumbnails and it's kind of a really fun process and it's
00:05:44.520 something I've really been enjoying so that was something I was working on
00:05:47.580 today because I had a video go up it's unexpectedly been a really pretty week
00:05:53.840 like the weather kept saying it was going to be awful and then it was only
00:05:57.240 storming in the evenings which is the best of all possible worlds because it
00:06:00.720 cools off the daytime and it's more like in the 70s and 80s and then evenings are
00:06:05.980 when it rains so who cares you can be in bed have you found that you've been
00:06:10.860 cooking more or less during coronavirus I'm really curious to hear because I
00:06:16.080 feel like with us it kind of like balanced out there were weeks that we
00:06:20.880 were doing more takeout because we wanted to support you know our small
00:06:24.240 businesses and then there were weeks that I was cooking everything and so it
00:06:28.020 just kind of ended up balancing out but it's an interesting thing because I feel
00:06:31.860 like you would think that it would just be obviously you'd be doing more
00:06:35.640 cooking but there is this kind of pull because you're home all the time to do
00:06:40.560 something a little bit different and so you end up doing more takeout what's
00:06:44.320 your favorite cuisine to order out or to like eat out and then what's your
00:06:50.380 favorite to cook I feel like they're not the same I feel like there are some
00:06:54.480 cuisines that I just I love cooking at home but then I would much rather get
00:06:58.020 something else out to eat so my husband loves sushi so that's been a thing
00:07:19.020 and I never thought that I liked sushi until he was the one who got me into it
00:07:25.020 and now I like it a lot I don't get anything I'm not adventurous I like my
00:07:32.880 sushi pretty straightforward I usually have like a veggie one or I will put like
00:07:39.000 a salmon roll like I keep it simple he'll do a little bit more adventurous
00:07:42.660 although he can't be that adventurous because kosher rules but at home
00:07:46.800 obviously I don't make sushi I think I like making I really like making Italian
00:07:52.980 food but also just like straight American I like making American food so to put
00:07:58.920 on these Brussels sprouts I'm going to put on some garlic powder
00:08:08.380 some onion powder some Italian seasoning and some paprika and I'm going to put
00:08:21.360 these in the oven at 425 but for the sake of the audio for this video I'm not
00:08:26.820 gonna do it quite yet because it is so loud that it really just blasts out the
00:08:31.500 sound and you can barely hear me so we'll just do that a little bit later so now
00:08:36.300 that we've got that done we're just gonna keep dinner pretty simple I'm just
00:08:39.300 gonna make some noodles and meatballs and my husband likes rigatoni so even
00:08:43.120 though you're supposed to eat meatballs with spaghetti we're doing rigatoni tonight and
00:08:46.680 so I'm just going to put on a pot of noodles so you might be able to hear the
00:08:57.760 pot filling with water what we're gonna do is I'm actually going to just put that
00:09:01.260 on my normal stovetop over there and we're just gonna let the noodles do
00:09:05.160 their thing because that's not interesting but I will make the meatballs in
00:09:08.800 front of you here with my induction cooktop and then I can do it kind of with you
00:09:13.760 guys I figured the noodles I don't really have to do with you guys because
00:09:16.580 that's pretty simple
00:09:21.200 so before we actually start cooking the meatballs I am going to make them so I
00:09:27.740 have to put them together and assemble them and all of that fun stuff so as you
00:09:32.300 can see I've got my meat defrosting in this water here so this is my secret trick I
00:09:37.980 always will defrost my meat because a lot of the meat we buy in Nebraska is
00:09:43.760 I have to thaw it so the best way for us to do that is if we have to do it kind
00:09:48.320 of spur of the moment or even if it just hasn't defrosted all the way I'll just
00:09:52.400 put it in some water and let it start to thaw and so it's about I would say 80% of
00:09:59.640 the way thawed but I might have to like massage out some of the frozen pieces it's
00:10:04.000 what happens when you're working with frozen meat so I'm just going to unpackage
00:10:07.440 these and then I'm just going to put them in the bowl and start making some meatballs
00:10:12.000 so we do have some frozen chunks in here it's definitely not ideal they're not so
00:10:17.160 frozen I mean I can probably like warm them up with my hands but it's not great
00:10:21.600 the problem is that we don't have very many places in Nebraska that we can get
00:10:26.680 not frozen meat there are a few so it's not to say that they don't exist but it's
00:10:30.840 just easier to make one grocery trip than it is to make three or four so we can get
00:10:34.880 all the things that we need and so I prefer to just get the frozen meat also
00:10:39.680 getting frozen meat is nice because it means that you don't have to worry about
00:10:42.200 it kind of going bad or having to throw it in the freezer it's already in the
00:10:46.520 freezer there's good and bad to it all right but I just grabbed my meat masher I'm
00:10:55.200 wondering if that will help me and it feels like it will oh my gosh I'm so excited
00:10:59.680 so as you guys may have seen in my Amazon favorites video I talked about
00:11:04.580 this guy here and how much I love it because it does such a good job of
00:11:08.820 mashing up your meat and I'm just gonna use it to help me kind of break up that
00:11:14.420 meat that's a little bit frozen still also update there are still bunnies in the
00:11:20.000 backyard and I'm loving it I'm so excited because they're still there and they're
00:11:26.160 so cute and I just you know I know that they can't come up to me I know they're
00:11:30.500 wild animals I just wish that they could because like I said I believe I'm snow
00:11:35.560 white or at least part of me believes I'm snow white okay guys so here's the
00:11:40.740 deal I decided just as I was mashing up this meat I don't think it makes much
00:11:46.000 sense for me to bring over the induction cooktop because that's not the
00:11:48.200 interesting part I'm just literally putting in the meatballs so this is the
00:11:51.420 plan I'm putting the meatballs in the sauce to simmer and that will cook them so
00:11:56.420 that's my plan I don't think I need to use the induction cooktop to show you
00:12:00.380 guys that I can just kind of put it on back there so I'm not gonna worry too
00:12:03.840 much about that next I am going to put in two eggs three eggs we'll see I'm
00:12:09.560 winging this because I'm not too worried about the consistency of the meatballs a
00:12:13.800 lot of the flavor comes from the marinara sauce and I generally don't use
00:12:17.060 recipes so depends sometimes I do but not always so today we're gonna do it so
00:12:22.860 let's start off with two I need to get a measuring cup give me a second so I
00:12:28.100 forgot to do this in my last cooking video but generally when I'm cooking with
00:12:31.600 eggs I crack them into a clear container so I can check them for blood because
00:12:37.000 blood makes it not kosher so that one's good
00:12:42.620 yep all good there and now we're just gonna mash these the water is getting
00:12:55.040 hot for the noodles so I'm just gonna keep letting that boil as they say a
00:13:01.900 wash pot never boils and I'm not watching it so so it's fine because it's boiled
00:13:09.360 so we're just mashing this up together and then we're gonna add bread crumbs and
00:13:15.320 a few spices is the plan I've got about three pounds of meat here because I want
00:13:21.180 there to be enough for everybody and if we have leftovers that's fine so it's
00:13:25.600 going to make the portions of what I put in here a little bit more so that's why
00:13:30.940 I'm deciding whether I want to put in another egg or not I think I'm gonna stick
00:13:34.700 with two for now but let's put in the breadcrumbs and see so who here has
00:13:41.580 Disney Plus because Disney Plus is a lot of fun as you guys know I have been
00:13:48.940 finding solace during quarantine by imagining that I can go to Disney World
00:13:53.300 and that includes watching Disney movies too so one of the things that I watched
00:13:57.620 lately recently was the princess and the frog and I hadn't seen it for a very very
00:14:06.000 long time so I was kind of excited to see what it was about kind of I didn't
00:14:12.440 really remember it I remembered parts of it but not all of it you know it's okay
00:14:17.920 it's cute but my issue is I don't like that they spend most of the movie as frogs
00:14:23.120 I don't know why that bothers me but I'm like I just wanted to see Tiana and
00:14:27.560 Prince Naveen being people I understand that the story and I'm sure that for kids
00:14:32.360 it's appealing that it's you know animals but as an adult I was like I want to see
00:14:37.580 them as people hanging out enjoying their lives oh I think that the water is
00:14:43.220 boiling so I'm going to rinse my hands
00:14:47.120 so we're just going to let those bad boys boil for about nine 12 minutes
00:14:53.900 between there sometime in there and then we can get going so this is going to
00:15:00.360 need another egg I have determined because it is a little bit dry with the
00:15:05.340 breadcrumbs so we're going to go in with another one
00:15:08.260 and we're just going to keep mashing
00:15:13.340 but yeah I think that with the princess and the frog it's cute but it's a little
00:15:19.400 bit like I said disappointing because I wanted to see Tiana and Prince Naveen
00:15:25.440 I almost felt like I wanted to know them better before they turn into frogs
00:15:29.840 but it's a cute movie and you know I will say I don't find that the songs are
00:15:34.160 very memorable so that that's a little sad
00:15:36.680 husband slowly approaches oh the video's gonna die
00:15:44.840 so the camera died but we're back and my husband sneaked in a kiss before the
00:15:57.400 camera died which was very cute but now I am mashing up this meat we're getting
00:16:02.280 close with the noodles but we're not quite there yet and I'm just going to add
00:16:06.600 some spices to this we're going to be using similar ones I'm going to be using
00:16:09.900 garlic powder
00:16:14.100 onion powder
00:16:18.960 now I'm not gonna add salt just because I don't want the salt from the
00:16:24.840 meatballs to be too much with the salt from the marinara because I'm just using
00:16:28.380 bottled marinara we're not getting fancy here come on so we're just gonna stick
00:16:33.500 with those two things and then I'll throw in some Italian seasoning too
00:16:40.560 so I asked my husband what he thought and he agreed that I should put some mayo in
00:16:46.060 here just to give these meatballs a little bit more moisture so I'm gonna throw
00:16:50.940 that in too I'm gonna go back in with these guys but what I'm gonna do first so I'm
00:16:58.320 going to check those noodles see if they're done and I'm actually gonna be
00:17:00.360 using the same pot because I can just dump out the noodles in the water and
00:17:03.960 then I have less dishes to do and who doesn't want that so while we let those
00:17:09.000 boil because they're not done yet we can just chat because my plan is the reason I
00:17:14.580 don't want to start mushing this together now is because it's really
00:17:17.340 annoying to run back and forth to the sink constantly and so I figure to what to
00:17:21.480 wash my hands in between so I figure I'll just mash this all together after I
00:17:24.760 filled the pot with the marinara sauce then I can just put these in and then
00:17:28.240 cover it and let it simmer so I'm just waiting until that happens but I am
00:17:33.220 curious to know what is your favorite Disney movie I all of them I know crazy
00:17:40.700 but I'm saying not just the animated ones but like live-action ones too or we can
00:17:46.600 make those two different categories live-action Disney movies and then the
00:17:49.720 the animated ones but my live-action favorite Disney movie that was on
00:17:54.100 Disney Plus Swiss Family Robinson I know guys I'm wondering what you think
00:18:00.760 because Swiss Family Robinson is one of my absolute favorites I absolutely love it
00:18:04.660 I've always wanted to live in that treehouse so why am I not living in that
00:18:07.900 treehouse right now I just wish I was there right this second it's so beautiful
00:18:12.460 in the movie he surprises her he like makes the roof so it opens up to the stars
00:18:17.320 and they can look up at the stars at night so romantic so that's gonna be the
00:18:21.940 dream house guys is uh it's just a treehouse just a beautiful treehouse but
00:18:29.020 as far as animated ones there are so many that I really love but just recently I've
00:18:34.780 really loved tangled I feel like tangled does a really good job of getting us to
00:18:41.060 know Flynn and Rapunzel really well okay let's check on the noodles
00:18:52.760 so we finished the noodles the noodles are in the sink draining and now we've got
00:18:57.820 the same pot making sure we don't have to wash extra dishes and we've got the
00:19:02.760 bowl with the meat in it so what I'm going to do is I'm actually just going to
00:19:06.440 pop two different kinds of marinara sauce into this pot I figure it's kind of
00:19:11.960 interesting to mix them because you get all the different flavors from each so
00:19:15.340 I'm just going to pour this in here
00:19:21.340 brief break while my husband opens this for me that pop was courtesy of Jacob and
00:19:32.140 now I'm going to put this mayo into these meatballs and then we can start
00:19:40.300 actually making them into meatballs so then what we do is we put them on the
00:19:44.240 stove and bring them to a boil and then bring them to a simmer and we let them
00:19:47.920 sit for about 30-ish minutes but you can always check them with a meat
00:19:53.800 thermometer that always makes things simple and easy and then you don't have
00:19:57.520 to worry to make sure that it's actually cooked and like cut into one you can
00:20:00.760 just test one with a meat thermometer so now we're just gonna roll about a
00:20:05.740 million meatballs because we've got a bunch in here I'm hoping that they stick
00:20:11.500 together because with the Mayo they might be too moist but we shall see I would
00:20:19.480 say right now Tangled is my favorite because it's just really well done it's
00:20:23.880 really sweet I think it's appropriate for kids but it also has something for
00:20:27.100 adults I think that's the thing for me with Princess and the Frog is in a weird
00:20:32.680 way it feels more appropriate for children but then there are topics in
00:20:36.580 there that I don't think that children would be that interested by so that's
00:20:40.180 maybe why I wasn't as much of a fan of that so normally when I'm cooking dinner I
00:20:45.220 usually will either put on some music if somebody is here with me I'll put on
00:20:49.360 some French cafe music or something which is always fun or if I'm alone I might
00:20:54.760 watch a show or something while I get ready so when I make one of these videos
00:20:58.240 obviously it's a little bit different I'm not watching a show I'm I'm chatting
00:21:02.140 with you guys but what's your perfect way to cook dinner like what gets you
00:21:09.220 really happy while you're cooking dinner do you wear an apron do you put on
00:21:13.580 music what are you cooking what's your favorite meal to cook I love to hear how
00:21:18.320 other women like to hang out in the kitchen so share with me in the comments
00:21:22.180 how you guys do that so guys I went thrifting for the first time in a really
00:21:33.580 long time and I'm gonna be honest I didn't really grow up thrifting so I
00:21:38.140 would usually shop in the major sales sections but I didn't really go thrifting
00:21:43.420 and so I tried to go thrifting the other day I got four items for $12 and I was
00:21:50.560 like is this real and they were really nice they're from like Ann Taylor Loft
00:21:55.120 and I think one of them was Banana Republic and I was so excited that I was
00:22:00.240 able to find stuff at the thrift store that was actually good quality and so
00:22:04.780 inexpensive so if you guys have tips for shopping at the thrift store please let
00:22:10.220 me know because I'm dying to go back I feel like it is so much better to shop at
00:22:15.720 the thrift store than it is to go to TJ Maxx or whatever if you can find stuff
00:22:21.960 that works for you and so if you guys have tips for it let me know because I
00:22:26.100 want to be better at thrifting and it's so interesting how good you can get at it
00:22:32.340 like I know there are some people who are really good at thrifting and so I
00:22:35.280 really want to be better at it because like I said I didn't I didn't grow up with
00:22:38.880 it really so I would like to be better at it but while I was there I was shopping
00:22:44.640 honestly I was shopping to find shorts that were a little bit longer because
00:22:48.720 the shorts that I own I think they're okay they're like pretty modest but I
00:22:53.260 worry that they're a little bit short so I thought you know what I'm gonna see if
00:22:56.340 I can find some shorts that are a little bit longer and so I won't feel
00:22:59.740 self-conscious and that was my plan was to find shorts that I felt more
00:23:04.480 comfortable in and so I went to the store and I was able to find some I also
00:23:09.580 found two skirts which was awesome and I found this adorable hanging wall
00:23:15.480 cabinet it is so beautiful it's wooden with these little glass doors and when
00:23:20.980 I say it's like a hanging wall cabinet it almost looks like a jewelry box it's
00:23:23.860 very small but it is really pretty and I think I got it for $10 and I can't
00:23:29.320 believe if I got it anywhere else it would be less than 30 so I was like well
00:23:33.020 that's a great purchase how often do you host people because I know that for
00:23:39.560 me my husband and I host so often like we love having people over obviously
00:23:45.980 coronavirus has put a damper on that and it's made things a little bit harder and
00:23:49.840 lately things have been opening up more so we've been you know having a few
00:23:53.640 friends over in small small groups and all that but it's it's interesting because
00:23:58.880 I think a lot of people aren't comfortable hosting and I know that in the
00:24:01.860 Orthodox Jewish community you have people over every week because of Sabbath so I'm
00:24:06.960 just used to the concept of hosting people for dinner okay guys so all of
00:24:10.860 the meatballs are done they're in the pot I may need to add actually even a
00:24:14.980 little bit more marinara just so that it really cooks all the way through
00:24:18.000 because you want them to be covered while they're cooking and I'm gonna bring it to
00:24:21.580 a boil and then I'm gonna let it simmer so because I'm having people over I can't
00:24:25.200 really show you guys the finished product as it comes out because I need to be able to
00:24:29.340 serve it and everything but what I will do is I will take a picture of the
00:24:32.160 finished product so you guys can see it so I'm gonna put this on the stove I'm
00:24:35.640 gonna start letting it cook and that's gonna be pretty much it I just need to
00:24:39.840 pop that in the oven put this on the stove and then we're good
00:24:56.740 okay guys so that's everything it's not very complicated it probably took longer
00:25:02.160 because I was sitting here chatting with you guys but it is not a complicated meal
00:25:06.300 to put together and it's pretty delicious when it's all served so I hope you guys
