00:00:00.120 Hello, classic crew, and welcome to today's episode of The Scoop.
00:00:06.760 If you are new to my channel, The Scoop is our opportunity to just catch up, chat about
00:00:11.480 what went on over the course of the week, talk about what's going on in our lives, and
00:00:15.020 act as if we're just grabbing a cup of coffee together.
00:00:17.420 And there's always some fun things going on in the world.
00:00:20.140 It's kind of an opportunity to talk about things that are happening in the zeitgeist
00:00:23.480 and also just things that I've been doing and enjoying.
00:00:26.200 I love hearing what you guys have been up to, so please leave that in the comments.
00:00:29.680 I always read them.
00:00:31.380 Grab yourself a cup of coffee.
00:00:32.780 I've got mine right here today.
00:00:34.360 Have some tea or just some water, whatever you are drinking, and let's get into it.
00:00:39.120 The first thing I want to talk about today is something that kind of went viral on Twitter,
00:00:44.700 and that was Harry Styles in a dress on the cover of Vogue.
00:00:50.660 Yeah, that really happened.
00:00:52.640 It's 2020.
00:00:53.900 Anything can happen, it seems.
00:00:55.340 So basically what happened is that Candace Owens commented on the fact that Harry Styles
00:00:59.900 was in a dress, and so did a few other commentators on Twitter, and it kind of blew up.
00:01:06.300 Now, as somebody who really values masculinity and finds masculinity very attractive, I don't
00:01:14.980 find Harry Styles in a dress attractive.
00:01:17.240 And this is something that kind of became part of the joke, is that people were saying,
00:01:21.720 oh my gosh, Harry Styles in a dress is just my type.
00:01:24.960 He looks so handsome.
00:01:26.260 He looks so great.
00:01:28.440 No.
00:01:30.440 Incorrect.
00:01:30.880 As somebody who loves the fact that my husband is a man and is masculine, seeing a man in
00:01:38.720 a dress doesn't really do it for me.
00:01:40.840 I'm going to be honest.
00:01:41.820 The thing about it is that I think that masculinity is actually really important.
00:01:46.500 I think that men need to embrace the best parts of masculinity, right?
00:01:50.700 Masculinity, just like femininity, can be directed in the worst possible directions, but
00:01:55.460 it can also be directed in the best possible directions.
00:01:57.980 And it's so important to embrace the best parts of masculinity and of femininity, right?
00:02:04.220 Women want men who are going to protect them, and that protective instinct is a masculine
00:02:08.920 thing.
00:02:09.660 Women want men who want to support them.
00:02:12.340 That's a wonderful masculine trait.
00:02:14.840 Men in dresses?
00:02:16.580 Not so much.
00:02:18.060 Men don't belong in dresses.
00:02:19.900 In Western culture, it's not a thing.
00:02:22.280 Men don't belong in dresses because men should be men.
00:02:25.180 It's a good thing for men to be men, not to be the worst version of men, but to be good,
00:02:31.300 strong, capable men.
00:02:33.520 The best version of masculinity is refining it and elevating it.
00:02:37.020 But masculinity should still be there.
00:02:39.060 Not having masculinity at all would be a real loss to us as women.
00:02:42.980 The whole idea of toxic masculinity really bothers me because the word toxic implies that
00:02:48.840 masculinity in and of itself is poisonous, and it's not.
00:02:52.160 Masculinity is a great thing when it's directed properly.
00:02:55.900 But just like anything, masculinity can be an idol.
00:02:58.640 So saying that masculinity has a really important role in men's lives is something that we should
00:03:03.400 all believe and understand.
00:03:05.420 And I know that strictly from the perspective of am I attracted to a man who would put on
00:03:09.480 a dress, the answer is no.
00:03:12.260 Next up, let's talk about something that happened that was peak 2020, and it was really funny.
00:03:18.040 It went viral on the internet, and it was the Rockefeller tree.
00:03:22.300 The Rockefeller tree is that huge tree that goes up, and it is beautiful every year.
00:03:27.840 But not in 2020.
00:03:29.520 In 2020, it really looked sad.
00:03:32.820 They took the Rockefeller tree, and as it started to go up, some of the branches started falling.
00:03:37.020 It just looked totally wonky.
00:03:39.020 And it was really funny because, of course, in 2020, even the Rockefeller tree is gonna
00:03:45.760 take a hit.
00:03:47.340 It has been a hard year, and apparently the Rockefeller tree got the message.
00:03:53.080 Next up, I want to talk about the Netflix movie, Holiday.
00:03:56.760 So this came out.
00:03:57.800 It kind of made the rounds.
00:03:58.940 People were talking about it.
00:04:00.300 It has Emma Roberts in one of the starring roles.
00:04:03.080 This movie is not good.
00:04:04.660 It's just not.
00:04:05.800 I do not recommend it.
00:04:07.020 So basically, the premise is that there are these two main characters.
00:04:10.260 Of course, it's a rom-com.
00:04:11.700 And neither one wants to really date.
00:04:13.740 So instead, they decide that they're going to use each other as actual dates to attend
00:04:19.320 events, attend holidays.
00:04:21.340 And then they don't have to bring somebody home or worry about kind of the dating aspect
00:04:26.340 of dating.
00:04:26.920 So they just have somebody to bring to the big events in their lives with their families,
00:04:30.960 et cetera, et cetera.
00:04:32.800 This movie is trash.
00:04:35.080 It is not good.
00:04:37.020 And I'm going to give you a few reasons why.
00:04:39.300 So number one is that if you are trying to figure out the perfect things not to do to
00:04:45.660 be classic, this is the movie for you.
00:04:49.100 Emma Roberts' character is just—honestly, it's sad.
00:04:52.120 It's sad for her because she seems like somebody who may have bought into the kind of narrative
00:04:58.040 that I talked about in my last video of happiness comes from accepting kind of your worst qualities,
00:05:03.460 being that BuzzFeed-style slob.
00:05:05.240 And she's clearly not happy.
00:05:06.820 She's not doing what's best for herself.
00:05:08.600 She's not making good decisions.
00:05:10.280 And it's just kind of sad to watch her that way.
00:05:13.060 So it's not great.
00:05:15.080 And then people, I'm sure, would respond saying, okay, well, isn't her family the one that's
00:05:19.360 making her depressed?
00:05:20.140 But the family can be wrong and she can be wrong.
00:05:23.640 Her family has a lot of issues in and of itself.
00:05:26.500 Her mom is kind of pressuring her and just kind of—I mean, clearly her mom has issues
00:05:30.740 in one scene where she kind of just makes it about a relationship about sex and not more
00:05:34.980 than that.
00:05:35.420 So, yeah.
00:05:36.560 But you can have a family that has problems and a main character that has problems.
00:05:41.320 The family has their own issues.
00:05:43.020 So does she.
00:05:43.900 And she is not really making the best decisions for her.
00:05:47.820 And she's not really like a put-together kind of person who looks like she could take
00:05:52.060 care of someone else, let alone herself.
00:05:54.380 But then you have the main guy who also has a lot of issues.
00:05:57.220 And it makes sense that they end up together at the end because neither one has worked to
00:06:01.920 grow or better themselves.
00:06:03.920 Not really.
00:06:05.000 But that's number one.
00:06:06.260 And number two is that this is a holiday movie.
00:06:09.440 And it's totally devoid of the faith aspect of anything.
00:06:14.800 It's like almost sacrilegious because you're talking about Christmas and Easter and all
00:06:20.120 of these different holidays and people are acting in really disgusting ways and just ignoring
00:06:25.700 the fact that these have a religious significance.
00:06:28.560 So that's a kind of a weird thing to me is that you're watching this movie.
00:06:31.920 And there's clearly no thought to the actual faith that goes into Easter and Christmas,
00:06:38.000 for example.
00:06:38.600 There's just none of that.
00:06:40.500 It's very odd.
00:06:41.600 The movie is not well done or put together.
00:06:43.940 And I would not recommend watching it.
00:06:45.960 It's also incredibly dirty.
00:06:47.940 Incredibly dirty.
00:06:49.620 Just it's not a holiday movie.
00:06:51.460 Don't even call it a holiday movie.
00:06:53.160 It's just not.
00:06:54.880 It's a big no from me.
00:06:57.080 Next up, as I'm drinking my coffee, I wanted to ask you guys a question.
00:07:00.840 So I have some lactose intolerance and so I generally try to avoid straight milk.
00:07:04.960 But my favorite dairy alternative has become oat milk.
00:07:08.600 And I never thought I was going to be that person because it sounded really hoity-toity.
00:07:12.040 But oat milk is delicious and you really can't taste a huge difference depending on the oat
00:07:16.500 milk that you buy.
00:07:17.280 I get the Chobani one.
00:07:18.420 It's delicious.
00:07:19.300 It goes great in my coffee.
00:07:21.000 And it's really not an obvious difference from dairy.
00:07:25.100 But I know a lot of people have different opinions on this.
00:07:27.420 Are you a soy person?
00:07:28.680 Are you an almond person?
00:07:30.060 There are so many different kinds of milk alternatives nowadays.
00:07:34.080 Oat milk is my favorite.
00:07:35.720 But I'm really curious to know if I'm the only one.
00:07:37.700 Because I feel like actually that's not that popular of an opinion.
00:07:40.040 People like it, but it's not their favorite.
00:07:42.600 And for me, it's definitely my favorite.
00:07:44.140 So I'd love to hear in the comments which one is your favorite.
00:07:47.280 Last but not least, I wanted to start a new series on The Scoop where I talk about my
00:07:52.180 look of the week.
00:07:53.140 Something that I've been doing that I really like.
00:07:55.100 An outfit, a makeup look, whatever it is.
00:07:57.580 This week, I wanted to talk about a look that I actually posted on my Instagram.
00:08:02.280 And I loved.
00:08:03.520 I loved wearing it.
00:08:04.800 It's kind of like a comfy, cozy, stylin' outfit.
00:08:09.140 And I really, that's the best of all possible worlds, right?
00:08:12.100 So it's these pants that I got at Kohl's actually last year for Valentine's Day.
00:08:17.360 And I love these pants.
00:08:19.200 They're super comfortable.
00:08:20.680 But they're also really kind of unique.
00:08:23.280 They're pink and they're palazzo pants.
00:08:25.080 But they're cropped.
00:08:26.040 They look really cool.
00:08:27.060 And I put them with a white sweater that was just very cozy and warm.
00:08:31.440 And I think this outfit just looks like something you would see on Pinterest.
00:08:34.720 I love the look of it.
00:08:36.300 But the thing that makes it is pairing it with these over-the-ankle booties.
00:08:40.840 These over-the-ankle booties really make the outfit.
00:08:43.180 And I think that wearing a cropped pant with an over-the-ankle booty that shows just a little
00:08:48.800 bit of leg is very flattering.
00:08:50.700 And that's what makes this outfit go from okay to okay.
00:08:54.380 She belongs on Pinterest, you know?
00:08:56.600 So let me know in the comments if this is an outfit you would ever wear.
00:08:59.380 If this is something that you have an outfit similar to.
00:09:02.200 I'd love to hear your guys' thoughts on this because I love putting together new and unique
00:09:07.100 looks.
00:09:07.880 They're just fun for me.
00:09:09.620 It's something that I actually struggle with is giving things away because I like giving
00:09:14.300 pieces in my closet a second life by pairing them with new things.
00:09:17.760 I don't know if you have that same issue, but I know that I do.
00:09:21.640 So that's it for today's episode of The Scoop.
