Classically Abby - WE BOUGHT A HOUSE!! 🏠

00:00:00.000 Hello, friends, and welcome to today's video where I'm going to be sharing our huge news

00:00:06.240 that we bought a house.

00:00:13.020 I am so excited to share this news with you guys.

00:00:16.120 I feel like I've been holding it in for a while now.

00:00:20.100 Jacob and I moved in just a few days ago, so everything is in boxes.

00:00:25.640 And I'm trying to find the time to unpack and to do my work and to take care of Mr. Baby.

00:00:34.100 And all of those things feel difficult in part because it is Jewish holiday season. 0.98

00:00:40.160 So it has been Rosh Hashanah, now it's Yom Kippur, then it's going to be Sukkot, then it's going to be Shemini Yetzirah.

00:00:46.240 So life is a little crazy.

00:00:48.140 My family is also out of town, so I don't really have help.

00:00:50.640 But initially, the initial move to the house, we had a ton of help.

00:00:55.920 So we're really, really grateful for that and really grateful for them.

00:00:59.260 But yeah, we bought a house for like officially Floridians.

00:01:04.520 Can you believe it?

00:01:05.500 We have wanted to buy a house for so long, and this feels like a dream come true.

00:01:11.460 So I'm really excited to kind of talk a little bit about how this happened, how we got here.

00:01:16.020 And before we get into today's video, if you are new to my channel, I would love if you would consider subscribing and hitting that notification bell.

00:01:23.400 And if you haven't already headed over to my Substack newsletter, where you'll get access to a ton of exclusive content, including my book club, weekly articles, a lot of other stuff too, make sure to head over to classicallyappy.substack.com.

00:01:35.960 I also want to mention that my podcast, which used to be only for my premium Substack subscribers, is now free.

00:01:43.160 So my husband and I have a podcast together called Classically Ever After, where we talk about traditional values and classic living in the modern era.

00:01:51.740 And I would love if you would consider checking it out on Spotify or Google Podcasts.

00:01:57.120 So let's get into today's video.

00:01:59.580 Okay, so we are currently sitting in the new house.

00:02:03.420 So cool.

00:02:04.200 And first of all, I haven't sat down to film in quite a bit because I sort of batch recorded a bunch of videos and now it's been like a month and I haven't sat in front of the camera for a while.

00:02:16.060 And I'm like, this is weird.

00:02:17.620 I have to get reused to it.

00:02:19.880 But we have wanted to buy a house, honestly, since we got married, but we couldn't because we've moved seven times since we've been married and we'll be married five years in May.

00:02:29.240 So not even five years.

00:02:30.840 And just this year, we'll have moved three times.

00:02:34.200 So we've really wanted to like settle down and put down roots.

00:02:38.320 That was really important to us, but we just couldn't because we got married when Jacob was still in law school.

00:02:42.600 And then we moved to Nebraska from Virginia and then we moved to Virginia again and now we're in Florida.

00:02:49.220 So buying a house always felt like something a little bit down the road, but something we really wanted to do.

00:02:53.980 We wanted to find a place to make our own and a place where we could settle down.

00:02:59.640 Like I said, put down roots.

00:03:01.860 So when we moved to Florida, we knew that Florida was going to be kind of our last stop.

00:03:07.080 That was our plan because Jacob's parents live here.

00:03:10.160 My family lives here.

00:03:11.560 And so it just made a lot of sense that this would be the place we want to be.

00:03:14.140 And before we bought a house sight unseen from afar, we wanted to make sure that we liked the area we were purchasing in.

00:03:21.840 So we rented an apartment and we attended our synagogue a few times just to make sure we liked it, just to make sure we like the community.

00:03:29.340 And it's really perfect for us.

00:03:31.200 Like we fit in instantly.

00:03:32.900 We knew that this was a good fit.

00:03:34.620 We figured out very quickly that this was something that we could really live here.

00:03:41.480 We could like make a life here and raise our son here and have a family here.

00:03:45.900 So we loved it.

00:03:48.040 There's, you know, my family's just a few minutes away.

00:03:50.580 Jacob's family's a couple of hours away.

00:03:52.640 And it just made perfect sense.

00:03:54.640 So the thing about buying a house in the Jewish community is that you have to buy your house within walking distance from other Jewish families and from the synagogue because we don't drive on Sabbath.

00:04:06.000 So what ends up happening is there's about a one mile, one square mile radius where everyone buys their homes and you are in competition with everyone else who wants to buy a home.

00:04:17.880 So the supply and demand is a kind of crazy situation.

00:04:22.000 There's always going to be more demand than supply.

00:04:24.640 Which is not great when you're buying but is great for when you're selling because you know you're never going to really lose the value of your home because people are always going to want to move into a Jewish community into that area. 0.98

00:04:35.000 It also means that you can't shop just anywhere.

00:04:37.040 You have to shop within that certain square mile.

00:04:40.060 So it makes it like very specific and you kind of have to hop and jump on things as they come up very quickly.

00:04:46.560 So we knew that that was going to be a little bit of a challenge.

00:04:48.900 But we got a call from one of our friends.

00:04:51.680 We told our friends, yes, we want to buy a house and we get a call from one of our friends or a text and it says there's someone in our development who's selling their house.

00:04:59.080 They haven't really told anyone else yet.

00:05:00.940 We want you to get this house.

00:05:02.920 So we thought to ourselves, oh, okay, new house on the market.

00:05:06.520 There's going to be a ton of competition, but we should get in early.

00:05:09.220 So we reach out to the couple.

00:05:11.260 We set up a time to go see the house, but then it gets leaked.

00:05:14.300 Everyone in the community knows it's posted in our community WhatsApp.

00:05:19.860 And so everybody's going to go look at this house.

00:05:21.380 So instead of having a private showing just with the owners, the owners decided to have an open house.

00:05:27.480 We weren't available at the time that the open house was going to be happening.

00:05:30.320 So we asked if we could come earlier in the day and they said yes.

00:05:34.300 So we came earlier in the day and we fell in love.

00:05:37.140 We just loved the house.

00:05:38.920 It has three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

00:05:41.300 It has a pool, a screened in pool also, which is really nice.

00:05:44.980 It has this beautiful view in the back and they had just totally renovated because they thought they were going to be here for a long time, but then the husband got transferred.

00:05:53.740 So the initial plan for them was to be here long term.

00:05:57.360 So everything is done beautifully.

00:05:59.140 Like they really did a good job with the renovations.

00:06:01.980 It's beautiful and open and light, which I should talk about the apartment we were staying in before this.

00:06:08.920 But we fell in love and it was perfectly in our price range, perfect distance to our synagogue.

00:06:15.540 It really like made perfect sense.

00:06:18.120 So we wanted to put in an offer.

00:06:19.760 We talked to our families.

00:06:20.680 We put in an offer and for two days we were on tenterhooks because we were waiting to see what was going to happen.

00:06:26.560 We knew other people were putting in offers too.

00:06:28.960 And then we find out that we got the house and we were just so excited.

00:06:33.680 And the cool thing was that neither one of us wanted to work with real estate agents.

00:06:37.120 So there wasn't that complication.

00:06:39.080 We didn't have to deal with, you know, more fees and stuff like that.

00:06:42.840 And both of us wanted to close really fast.

00:06:44.980 So we closed in three weeks, which was crazy.

00:06:50.220 And we just moved all of our stuff in.

00:06:52.680 So that was really exciting.

00:06:55.300 We are here in the house.

00:06:56.900 We repainted my son's nursery because that was their daughter's nursery and it's green.

00:07:01.280 I'm going to do a nursery tour and I'm really excited to just make this house a home, which is what I've been waiting for for so long is to make this house a home.

00:07:11.260 I really want to share the whole process with you guys about being a homeowner, but also kind of the renovations and interior decoration we want to do.

00:07:18.560 It's something that we really want to, we want to make special and homey for us.

00:07:24.520 So I'm really excited that we have a house now.

00:07:27.660 It's going to be so much fun sharing this whole process with you guys.

00:07:32.380 The reason that part of the reason we wanted to move so quickly was because we were in an apartment and I was sort of mentioning this before that the space was nice.

00:07:41.380 I mean, it was, it was a bigger apartment, but it was so dark.

00:07:44.360 There was no natural light, which really messes with my mood.

00:07:47.120 There was no place to go outside.

00:07:48.880 So we were locked in the side all day and the neighbors were really rude and disorderly and the management was really awful.

00:07:56.840 And so we were just like, let's go.

00:07:59.060 So when they said three weeks to close, we were like, yes, we are in.

00:08:03.880 So it all worked out beautifully.

00:08:05.940 We have a house, first house that we've ever owned.

00:08:09.920 And hopefully we don't move for a very long time because seriously, I cannot move again for a while.

00:08:15.360 It's, I, I, we have moved so much since we've been married.

00:08:18.500 I am ready to stop.

00:08:20.580 So that is it.

00:08:22.540 I'm going to be posting some videos, I think, throughout this video just so you can see some of what the house looks like.

00:08:28.440 But we're here.

00:08:30.060 I hope you guys enjoyed today's video.
