00:00:36.540 I am so excited to share with you guys, we've been keeping it under wraps for quite some time,
00:00:44.240 that Jacob and I are moving. Now, what do I mean when I say moving?
00:00:51.080 Because we just recently moved houses. So it was very funny because I saw a comment
00:00:58.900 in one of my Instagram posts when I talked about us moving to this house that we're in now,
00:01:04.540 and it said, why do you guys move like every six months? It was very ironic that you shared that
00:01:13.600 when we were actually planning on moving from this house in six months. And there is a story behind
00:01:20.600 that. There is a story about where we're going, but I will spoil it a little bit and tell you we
00:01:27.300 are moving to Florida. So we are in Virginia now, and we are going to be moving to Florida. And
00:01:34.600 hopefully, Florida is kind of our stopping point. It's where we end up. Will we be in the same house
00:01:40.340 the entire time? Probably not. But the idea being, we are going to be in Florida, and we're going to
00:01:45.580 be settling in Florida. So that's really exciting. But I just, I thought that was hilarious because I
00:01:50.920 was thinking to myself when that person commented, you don't even know. So let's go back a little bit.
00:01:58.760 Jacob and I have moved every year since we've gotten married. When we got married, Jacob had
00:02:04.020 one year left in law school. So we were in Charlottesville, Virginia for a year while he finished
00:02:08.640 up at UVA Law. And then we moved to Omaha, Nebraska for a year while Jacob tried out a job there. And
00:02:14.860 then we moved back to Virginia, but this time we moved to Northern Virginia. And this was again
00:02:19.120 for Jacob's work. So after moving here, when I got pregnant, we started talking about, okay,
00:02:25.980 what do we want our next steps to be? And we came to the conclusion that Florida would be a really
00:02:31.840 good place for us for a whole host of reasons, which I will get into sort of at the end of the video.
00:02:37.940 So Jacob was looking for work in Florida. I can do my work from anywhere, so I'm very flexible.
00:02:43.500 And at the same time that this was happening, our lease came up at the house that we were in.
00:02:50.380 We had extended for six months, so we were there for a year and six months. And we weren't sure whether
00:02:56.760 we were going to stay in that house, because if you remember, there was a big mice problem. And that mice
00:03:03.980 problem was not being dealt with. And it was horrifying and very nerve wracking, given that
00:03:09.560 we're having a newborn, a baby. And so we were debating whether or not to move, because we
00:03:16.660 didn't know how long it would take for Jacob to find a job in Florida. We didn't know how long it
00:03:20.960 would take for us to actually move to Florida. We just didn't know. So we decided to sign the lease
00:03:28.380 lease for the house that we are currently in. And the next day, Jacob got an interview for a job in
00:03:35.320 Florida. And both of us were like, okay, I mean, sure, this makes sense, right? Of course it has to
00:03:44.000 happen that way. And we were trying to be realistic in saying, okay, we should act as if there is no job
00:03:51.260 lined up for Florida and live our lives. So we signed the lease here. And the next day, Jacob
00:03:56.860 got the interview. And then two weeks later, he got the job. We have a six month lease where we are
00:04:02.700 now, which worked out perfectly. But that means we are going to be moving twice in six months. So we
00:04:09.600 moved everything to this house, and then we're going to be moving everything to Florida. So that is
00:04:15.560 the story of why we're moving twice in six months. Yes, we're going to be moving with a little baby,
00:04:23.320 but hopefully everything will be sorted. We'll have a plan. I'm not moving before I give birth
00:04:29.100 to this little one. That would just be way too stressful and also just unsafe. I want to be near
00:04:35.200 my doctor during these last few weeks of pregnancy. And I want to make sure that we are able to actually
00:04:41.160 make that transition well. So we will be here for a bit of the summertime, and then we will be moving
00:04:48.520 to Florida, which I am so excited about. So as all this stuff has been happening, as we've been making
00:04:55.600 these big life changes, one of the things that's had to happen is that Jacob had to retake the bar.
00:05:01.760 So he has taken the bar. He is barred in DC, but Florida has its own bar exam, and Jacob had to
00:05:11.260 retake the bar. Now, if you know what the bar exam is like, you know it is a nightmare to study for.
00:05:18.140 I'm so proud of Jacob. He worked so hard. He was studying all day, every day. It was just so amazing,
00:05:25.980 and he had a shortened schedule too because it all happened so quickly. But it's a lot. I mean,
00:05:31.500 studying for the bar is no joke, and Jacob was doing a great job the last week before the test.
00:05:37.500 I was really helping him out. We were just sitting down and focusing and working on all the stuff
00:05:42.180 that he wanted to review, and that was a big undertaking on his part. So I'm so proud of him,
00:05:47.660 and it was just, you know, it's really meaningful that he and I are on the same page about what we
00:05:52.580 want so that when he is doing a project like that, which is just the worst, and no one wants to take
00:05:58.320 the bar exam more than once. He feels like he's doing it for our family, and that's a really
00:06:04.020 meaningful, beautiful thing. But this also explains why for our nursery, we didn't build the crib.
00:06:11.840 We didn't buy a changing table or a dresser because it just didn't make sense for us to build all that
00:06:17.400 stuff for only three months and then take it all down and then build it again when we get to Florida.
00:06:22.860 So we are using a pack and play in the nursery as the changing table and as the bassinet. We also have
00:06:28.440 a bassinet for our bedroom, so that's probably what we're going to use most of the time anyway,
00:06:33.020 but that was kind of the way we had to work things out while we recognize that this is a little bit
00:06:39.140 transitory here. Now, I'm not somebody who likes to make a home feel transitory ever, so I don't really
00:06:44.940 do that, but for example, we really aren't putting much stuff on the walls here just because it doesn't
00:06:50.680 make sense for us to hang up all these photos and then leave in six months. The next place we move,
00:06:55.360 we will definitely put up photos, but we have all our furniture out, and because it was only next
00:07:01.220 door, we didn't have to pack anything and then unpack anything, so it still feels really homey,
00:07:05.960 which is actually a huge blessing, and I want to say I do not regret at all that we moved. This was
00:07:12.680 a great move. We do not have to worry about mice. We do not have to worry about a lot of things. This house
00:07:19.040 is so much better for us, and even though it's only for six months, six months is a really long time,
00:07:24.220 so we are very grateful that we actually did sign that lease and that we ended up here. Okay, so why
00:07:32.500 did we choose Florida? There are a lot of amazing reasons for us to move to Florida, so I'm really
00:07:39.440 excited to share why. Let's start off with an obvious one. We're having a baby, and we have family down
00:07:47.580 there. Jacob's parents are down there. My parents are down there. My brother is down there. It's just
00:07:53.640 much better for us to have family around as we're starting our family, and we're really excited to be
00:08:00.780 close to family as this is all happening. I think it's really hard to raise a family when you're not
00:08:06.200 close to family, and I respect people who can do it, but that's not what we want. We want our kids to
00:08:12.280 grow up knowing their grandparents and seeing their grandparents and seeing their cousins. That's
00:08:17.600 really important to both of us, so that's one huge major reason. Another big reason is that there is a
00:08:25.860 really, really wonderful Jewish community in Florida. There are a ton of Jewish communities in
00:08:31.360 Florida, and that has been something we've been really lacking here in Northern Virginia, and we are
00:08:37.660 not interested in moving to Maryland, which comes into play for the next reason, but Florida has the
00:08:45.840 infrastructure for us to raise a Jewish family, and so I am so excited about being in a beautifully active
00:08:54.100 Jewish community, being part of a synagogue, having Jewish day schools to send our children to. It's such
00:09:01.080 a blessing that this is something we are able to do, and we're so excited about. So this community that
00:09:08.280 I've been, you know, lacking here in Northern Virginia, and something I'm such a huge proponent of
00:09:13.300 on my channel, we are actually following through on that and saying, you know, this really is that
00:09:18.660 important. We are moving to a whole other state because it is so important for us to have a big Jewish
00:09:25.080 community and that support system. Now, the last reason has to do with the fact that Florida is a
00:09:32.020 free state. With COVID, I think we've all seen really the difference between states that are blue
00:09:40.500 and states that are red and how they treat this, and I personally am not going to put my children
00:09:45.360 into a situation where they're going to have to be masked constantly. I don't know how long that's
00:09:51.420 going to take to go away. I want to be in a place where that's not a concern, and Florida, it's not
00:09:58.000 a concern. You know, we can live as conservatives in Florida and absolutely fit in. So that is hugely
00:10:06.940 important to both of us, and it's a wonderful reason to move to Florida, and I'm really, really
00:10:12.620 excited about that part of it too. So that is why we are moving to Florida. That is our huge life update.
00:10:18.360 That means you guys are going to be seeing me being a new mom, dealing with a move, and then
00:10:27.660 adjusting to a whole new state, and I'm really excited about it. I think it's going to be really, really
00:10:33.780 special, and I can't wait to share the whole journey with you guys, and I'm so excited I finally get to
00:10:39.820 tell you. So that is it for today's video. Let me know in the comments what you guys think. Let me know if
00:10:46.720 you're from Florida. Give me some suggestions. What are your guys' thoughts? I'd love to hear.
