00:00:33.000 Oh, that's kind of mean that I turned it off there, right?
00:00:38.000 Put it back.
00:00:40.000 That was very good.
00:00:53.000 Love isn't always on time.
00:00:57.000 Love is not always on time.
00:01:00.000 I don't know what they're talking about.
00:01:01.000 I guess they're saying you can't choose who you love.
00:01:04.000 Is that a guy justifying divorce?
00:01:07.000 I think maybe he's grumpy that love came at the wrong time or it never came at the time.
00:01:11.000 Wait, you've got to switch to your camera.
00:01:13.000 Oh, yeah.
00:01:15.000 So maybe he's a disgruntled lover.
00:01:18.000 Disgruntled lover.
00:01:20.000 That's my new nickname for you.
00:01:22.000 That's MC Disgruntled Lover.
00:01:25.000 Hi, welcome back to the show.
00:01:26.000 I'm here with my co-host, Disgruntled Lover.
00:01:30.000 And we've got a fun show for you today.
00:01:32.000 We've got Michael J. Knowles on the show from Daily Wire.
00:01:37.000 He's a very, very charming, cool guy who can't be an actor in Hollywood anymore because someone got the word out that he's not a liberal.
00:01:48.000 And that was the end of his acting career and friendships and all that.
00:01:52.000 So it's sort of like me.
00:01:53.000 He's pushed over to the right, the ghetto, the right-wing ghetto, and he's making a name for himself there.
00:02:02.000 I didn't like that intro at all.
00:02:03.000 Anyway, we have him on the show all the time.
00:02:05.000 We get along great.
00:02:06.000 I'm annoying myself.
00:02:07.000 But before we talk to old Mikey, I want to show you this video Vox is pushing.
00:02:14.000 It's an old video, but they're rehashing it.
00:02:16.000 And it's all about why we need to deplatform the YouTube right.
00:02:21.000 Now, I'm included in this, and I'm not on YouTube anymore.
00:02:24.000 I'm at CRTV.
00:02:25.000 I don't know if you've ever heard of it, but I've been included in this.
00:02:29.000 And the arguments for it are bizarre.
00:02:31.000 The arguments are, I feel unsafe as a gay man or a minority or whatever, so we have to get these guys off because they're creating a breeding ground for extremists.
00:02:42.000 No, dude, the problem here is that you've created this boogeyman, this evil Nazi Hitler II in your mind.
00:02:50.000 So you think that we are that thing and we have to be banned.
00:02:55.000 It's your boogeyman.
00:02:56.000 You know what I mean?
00:02:58.000 It's like they've turned you into, it's like witch hunts, where they've assumed that you know black magic and you can kill people.
00:03:05.000 So they're saying, how should we get rid of witches?
00:03:08.000 And we're saying, I don't know, but we're not witches.
00:03:12.000 So why are we having this discussion?
00:03:14.000 Their obsession is basically Bigfoot chasing.
00:03:17.000 Anyway, I really want to get into depth on that.
00:03:20.000 So that's going to be a doozy of a vid.
00:03:23.000 And then we'll talk to Mike.
00:03:25.000 Let's start it up.
00:03:29.000 It's not just Alex Jones, says Vox.
00:03:32.000 That's a site that was started by the guy from Daily Coast and Ezra Klein.
00:03:37.000 Clearly just funded by some far-left zillionaires who want the millennials to stay brainwashed and don't like this conservative wave we're seeing with young people.
00:03:48.000 So they liberal splain everything.
00:03:51.000 And the liberal splaining for this latest trend in deplatforming is Alex Jones is just the tip of the iceberg, which is kind of what we're saying too, but we're saying it as a bad thing.
00:04:00.000 They're saying it as a good thing.
00:04:01.000 And they're like, you can't just start, you can't stop with Alex Jones.
00:04:05.000 Deplatform everyone.
00:04:07.000 And the evidence they have is some people have opinions that I don't like.
00:04:12.000 So this is kind of an old video, I believe, but they brought it back after the Alex Jones thing to make the case for banning everyone.
00:04:20.000 And they couldn't have made a worse case.
00:04:22.000 Here's how you make a case about banning speech.
00:04:24.000 You go, this guy said this, like, what do we want?
00:04:27.000 Dead cops, when do we want them now?
00:04:29.000 And then five cops were killed in Dallas.
00:04:31.000 So that person's speech led to five deaths.
00:04:34.000 That's an argument.
00:04:36.000 It's a tough one to make because I don't know how you stop people from chanting in a protest.
00:04:39.000 But that's an argument.
00:04:41.000 This, they're so far left that they just show you a right-wing sentence and go.
00:04:47.000 I mean, can you believe that?
00:04:48.000 That person said that.
00:04:50.000 So they obviously should be banned.
00:04:52.000 Watch.
00:04:55.000 Search YouTube for videos about immigration, and eventually you'll find this.
00:05:00.000 Mass immigration is not the rainbows and unicorns that our politicians portray it as.
00:05:05.000 is in fact a tragedy for videos about Why don't you refute that?
00:05:12.000 She just shows that, and she says, mass immigration isn't rainbows and unicorns.
00:05:16.000 That's not controversial, by the way.
00:05:18.000 Rainbows and unicorns are a very, very high bar that they don't seem to make.
00:05:23.000 And then she said, it's a serious issue.
00:05:26.000 It's a catastrophe.
00:05:27.000 Mass immigration is a catastrophe.
00:05:30.000 And I'm happy to sit you down and explain.
00:05:32.000 She didn't say there should never be immigrants.
00:05:34.000 She didn't say there has never been immigration or there should be no more immigration at all.
00:05:39.000 She's talking about post-1975 waves and waves.
00:05:44.000 It used to be open borders, closed borders.
00:05:47.000 Open borders, closed borders.
00:05:48.000 Since around 1975, we opened the gates and broke off the hinges and it's just been ever since.
00:05:57.000 I'd like to see you defend that.
00:06:00.000 Anyway, go ahead.
00:06:01.000 Islam and you'll find stuff like this.
00:06:04.000 By its very nature, Islam is an intolerant, radical, extremist belief system.
00:06:10.000 Search for feminism.
00:06:11.000 Stop, stop.
00:06:12.000 Isn't that Glockenspiel in the background irritating?
00:06:20.000 I'm telling you facts, and you're a kindergarten student.
00:06:26.000 That thing about Islam, I don't understand what his point is too, and he'll get to It but if you look up Islam on YouTube, you will see heaps and heaps of Muslims talking about how it's a religion of peace, and you'll see videos about rock and the hijab, rock, rock and the hijab, cool Muslim voices.
00:06:44.000 There are both sides to this.
00:06:46.000 Now, I'm on the side that I think Islam is a scourge, and I think it's a unique religion that's unassimilable in the West.
00:06:54.000 And I think a disproportionate number, upwards of 50% or more, think that suicide bombing is sometimes or often justified.
00:07:01.000 I don't like any of those numbers.
00:07:03.000 Even in America, about one in four 18 to 25-year-old male Muslims think that suicide bombing is sometimes or often justified.
00:07:12.000 That's way too high.
00:07:16.000 But you can't have that.
00:07:17.000 All right, let's see what feminism, this is a good one, by the way.
00:07:20.000 I've just watched this.
00:07:21.000 And yeah.
00:07:22.000 Newsflash, everybody hates feminism.
00:07:26.000 These videos are all products of what New York Times magazine calls the YouTube right.
00:07:30.000 A growing collection of right-wing vloggers, media operations, conspiracy theorists, and activists who built sizable followings on YouTube.
00:07:38.000 They warn about mass immigration, decry political correctness, and mock out-of-control social justice warriors.
00:07:44.000 Why am I on camera for this?
00:07:45.000 also represent a fascinating challenge for YouTube.
00:07:48.000 A company that wants to make These millennials who preach to you, I call it millennial explaining, but they're so confident that they tell you about the world in a really patronizing way.
00:08:05.000 And you can tell they're not convinced, which is why his shoulders have to slam down on every single point because he has to overconvince you because he's overconvincing himself.
00:08:17.000 Go ahead.
00:08:18.000 Make money off of ads on cat videos.
00:08:23.000 And now finds itself at the center of a huge debate about censorship and hate speech on the internet.
00:08:28.000 Absolutely vital that we red till the next generation.
00:08:32.000 One of the YouTube writes' biggest success stories so far is Lauren Southern.
00:08:36.000 She's an activist who went solo after making a name for herself on a conservative site called The Rebel.
00:08:41.000 And her YouTube videos...
00:08:52.000 You're scared of a 100-pound, sweet little blonde girl because she doesn't like feminism or immigration.
00:09:01.000 Nice problems, you complete pussy.
00:09:05.000 Regularly get hundreds of thousands of each of them.
00:09:08.000 I got involved in YouTube sort of during the gamer gay anti-feminism phase of the internet.
00:09:13.000 Since then, I've just been commenting on all the world's craziness.
00:09:17.000 Southern videos reflect a lot of the core ideas of the YouTube right.
00:09:21.000 She criticizes political correctness, warns about the threat of refugees and immigration, and even made a whole video criticizing gay pride parades.
00:09:29.000 If you ever want to spur some homophobia in reasonable people, just take them to a pride parade.
00:09:36.000 This is the thing I've noticed with the left.
00:09:39.000 If you criticize minorities or gays or anything like that, you're a racist and a homophobe, and we have to stop it.
00:09:47.000 The actual criticism gets zero analysis.
00:09:51.000 So if I, I've noticed this when people accuse me of racism, they'll bring up examples of me, you know, mocking Corey Booker or Neil deGrasse Tyson or a bunch of black people.
00:10:01.000 And you'll go, why'd you choose five black people that I criticize?
00:10:04.000 What about the 500 other white people?
00:10:06.000 Why did you focus on that?
00:10:08.000 Because they see blacks as special, delicate little flowers.
00:10:13.000 So you don't criticize them the way you criticize other people.
00:10:16.000 Naomi Schaefer Riley was fired from an education site for pointing out that black PhDs tend to be half-assed and ridiculous and all about racism, racism, racism.
00:10:28.000 And it's amateur hour at the Apollo for these black PhDs.
00:10:31.000 And she provided a heap of examples.
00:10:34.000 Instantly fired.
00:10:35.000 No one said, geez, we hadn't checked out these dissertations before.
00:10:39.000 They are terrible.
00:10:40.000 They're ridiculous.
00:10:41.000 They read like high school rants.
00:10:45.000 They just fired her because she criticized a black thing.
00:10:48.000 And this guy is freaking out that she criticized gay pride.
00:10:52.000 Have you been to a gay pride parade?
00:10:54.000 In New York City, it's lesbians brawling and gays diddling each other.
00:10:59.000 In San Francisco, they're all having anal sex on the balconies as you walk by and people bring kids.
00:11:06.000 It's not a celebration of homosexuality.
00:11:09.000 It's a celebration of gay sex.
00:11:12.000 And it's really gross.
00:11:13.000 And there are plenty of gays who feel the same way.
00:11:16.000 Talk to Chadwick Moore about gay pride parades.
00:11:20.000 They're a mess.
00:11:22.000 Obviously, I wore my gayest possible outfit for the interview.
00:11:25.000 So, Lauren, why YouTube?
00:11:27.000 For left-wing content, you can get that in real life.
00:11:30.000 You can get that in person.
00:11:31.000 Your professors, your teachers, your newspapers, left-wingers don't need to go to the dark places of the internet to find their opinions.
00:11:38.000 Did you catch that?
00:11:41.000 They place all of this prejudice on you.
00:11:45.000 So he thinks he's talking to Satan incarnate.
00:11:47.000 He thinks he's talking to the head of the KKK in the queer bashing division.
00:11:53.000 So he wears a shirt that says queer to blow her mind, throw her off her game, make her blood boil.
00:12:00.000 Because she criticized the gay pride parade.
00:12:02.000 Ergo, the word queer, and anyone gay must give her a conniption.
00:12:06.000 She couldn't care less.
00:12:09.000 That's the whole thing with all these people being offended.
00:12:11.000 You're assuming I care about your feelings.
00:12:14.000 I don't care about you.
00:12:15.000 Go live your life.
00:12:16.000 I'm just telling you a bunch of facts.
00:12:20.000 That's like what they do with this Trump stuff, where they have Trump making out with Putin, or they do a picture of Trump with a small penis, or they smash his star on the Hollywood fame, or they go to his house.
00:12:31.000 They go to Mike Pence's house, and a bunch of gay people dance in front of his house like he's going to be going, no, I hate gays dancing.
00:12:38.000 I don't care if you dance.
00:12:41.000 Go ahead.
00:12:42.000 As right-wingers do, YouTube has kind of become this outlet and this way to communicate with people you agree with.
00:12:47.000 In Southern's view, YouTube is a great equalizer.
00:12:50.000 A place where people can go to express far-right views without having to worry about being politically correct.
00:12:56.000 It is time to talk about some inconvenient truths.
00:12:59.000 And she's right.
00:12:59.000 The beauty of YouTube is that there's basically no barrier to entry.
00:13:03.000 All it takes today is having a regular cell phone and you can just film with that.
00:13:08.000 Anyone can pick up that camera and make a video.
00:13:10.000 Yeah, I guess anyone could do that, huh?
00:13:12.000 Yep, any idiot.
00:13:13.000 By the way, can you just pause it here?
00:13:15.000 Have you noticed we've been traipsing through this?
00:13:17.000 We're what, halfway through?
00:13:18.000 Oh, I'm not going to make this entire thing.
00:13:20.000 Jesus Lord.
00:13:22.000 And there's been no point made yet?
00:13:24.000 We haven't had a salient point yet.
00:13:27.000 In fact, the only thing of substance came out of Lauren's mouth during his interview with her when he wore his controversial queer shirt.
00:13:35.000 Low barrier to entry means that YouTubers are afraid to say things that would be too taboo for even Fox News or talk radio.
00:13:42.000 Talk radio is supposed to be super edgy.
00:13:44.000 It was supposed to be the craziest opinions on earth.
00:13:47.000 But now it's YouTube.
00:13:48.000 You'll have people that are willing to touch topics that other people aren't.
00:13:51.000 People that aren't worried about being kicked off a network.
00:13:53.000 They'll just blurt it out and it's there on the internet.
00:13:56.000 That might sound like an exciting free speech paradise for Southern, but it's created kind of a nightmare for YouTube.
00:14:02.000 Because it turns out, YouTube is a really good breeding ground for things like extremism.
00:14:07.000 No offense, but f the Pope.
00:14:09.000 Hate speech.
00:14:10.000 They have less crime than other towns.
00:14:12.000 Yeah, because there's less blacks and conspiracy theories.
00:14:14.000 Well, the left's been saying they're going to start killing all the conservatives.
00:14:17.000 One, it's a click-based market.
00:14:19.000 So creators are Just pause here.
00:14:24.000 Sanctuary, I was talking about sanctuary cities, and they always talk about how there's less crime there.
00:14:28.000 And they'll compare it to a densely black-populated place like Detroit or the south side of Chicago.
00:14:34.000 And you go, yeah, I guess so.
00:14:36.000 But you don't have the kind of crime you have in sanctuary cities because you don't have the black population.
00:14:42.000 And in modern black populations in America, they tend to be fatherless.
00:14:46.000 They tend to have a bad history with prison, a whole bunch of other things.
00:14:51.000 I blame the left, but if you check the data, densely populated black areas tend to have crime.
00:14:59.000 So you can't use that to tell me that illegal aliens aren't crime.
00:15:05.000 And by the way, those sanctuary cities do have more crime than other cities that are the same size, that have a similar background, that aren't Detroit, that aren't the south side of Chicago, that aren't Baltimore, that aren't East New York.
00:15:19.000 So it was a very good point.
00:15:20.000 And it was not extremism.
00:15:24.000 And this whole idea of breeding ground, they think that ideas are some sort of evil plague.
00:15:31.000 Why are you so scared of words?
00:15:34.000 And if I'm wrong about the sanctuary cities, please lambase me with a rebuttal.
00:15:38.000 I would love to hear it.
00:15:40.000 Then I'll be smarter.
00:15:41.000 I don't see ideas as bacteria that fester in a Petri dish.
00:15:45.000 I see it as the gym.
00:15:47.000 Your brain is working out.
00:15:48.000 And if someone proves you wrong about something, that's great.
00:15:51.000 But all this guy does is list things that shock him and assume that you're going to go, well, that's terrible.
00:15:57.000 That should be banned.
00:15:59.000 And F the Pope.
00:16:00.000 Is that too right-wing for you, sir?
00:16:03.000 And finally, Alex Jones saying liberals are saying they're going to start killing people.
00:16:07.000 They did say that.
00:16:08.000 Look at all the signs at these rallies.
00:16:10.000 Look at kill all white men.
00:16:12.000 Joe Bernstein tweets that out.
00:16:14.000 They say that all the time.
00:16:15.000 White men need to die.
00:16:16.000 We need to exterminate whiteness.
00:16:18.000 All again and again and again.
00:16:20.000 Tim Weiss had a big essay about conservative white males and how they're going to be extinct.
00:16:25.000 And unlike rare jaguars and other animals, it's good that they're extinct.
00:16:30.000 The world will be better off with them.
00:16:32.000 So all of this is just factually true.
00:16:35.000 Sorry.
00:16:36.000 Sorry you find these truths to be inconvenient.
00:16:40.000 Incentivized to be as sensational and inflammatory as possible to get the attention of viewers.
00:16:45.000 With normal vloggers, it's clickbaity thumbnails and headlines like, my Uber driver is in love with me.
00:16:51.000 With right-wing YouTubers, it's videos like The Left and Islam Unholy Alliance or Hillary Tied to Bizarre Occult Spirit Cooking Ritual.
00:17:00.000 Pause it there.
00:17:01.000 This is clearly a gay man who has no depth.
00:17:06.000 So when he does videos about what he really likes, it's my Uber driver's in love with me and the worst pants on earth and what is with top buns.
00:17:18.000 And then he goes over and compares that to political people focused on Islam like Jihad Watch or Paul Joseph Watson or something and says, these guys are evil.
00:17:28.000 I'm nice.
00:17:29.000 No, these guys are political and they're discussing uncomfortable concepts.
00:17:33.000 You're silly.
00:17:34.000 You're a babysitter.
00:17:35.000 You're a Miley Cyrus fan.
00:17:38.000 Independent bloggers also have zero obligation to fact-check themselves, provide evidence, or face debate.
00:17:44.000 Unlike Fox News or Talk Radio, YouTubers don't require broadcast licenses.
00:17:48.000 So they're immune to FCC rules prohibiting them from distributing obscene or false headphones.
00:17:52.000 If you want to lose young people, keep talking about rules and how we need more rules and regulation.
00:17:58.000 The government has to get involved in YouTube.
00:18:00.000 What is the problem with someone saying something on YouTube that hasn't been fact-checked that you don't like?
00:18:06.000 Why must we regulate that?
00:18:08.000 If you're going to make this argument, you have to show negative consequences.
00:18:12.000 This person said that the Parkland shooting never happened and this kid got so hurt he killed himself.
00:18:20.000 There's an example of speech hurting someone, but you haven't provided that yet and we're more than halfway done this stupid video.
00:18:27.000 Five of the 10 most viewed videos about the Las Vegas shooting are conspiracy theories.
00:18:32.000 This is from high-level CIA.
00:18:35.000 Right here.
00:18:35.000 You know I don't make sources up.
00:18:37.000 YouTube also pushes people down.
00:18:39.000 I have a real problem with the whole word conspiracy theory.
00:18:41.000 It's a theory about a conspiracy.
00:18:45.000 What's the matter with that?
00:18:47.000 Why do we have to ban conspiracy theories?
00:18:50.000 What about when they turn out to be true?
00:18:52.000 We've had tons.
00:18:53.000 Remember that we there was a conspiracy theory that the government was flooding the hood with cocaine?
00:19:01.000 That's a common theory.
00:19:02.000 You still hear it in Harlem, black people talking about it, how they, there's all kinds of rhymes about it too, like the FBI brought us crack and then threw us in jail, blah, blah, blah.
00:19:13.000 That theory turned out to be relatively true.
00:19:15.000 They wanted to fund Nicaraguan freedom fighters and they couldn't do it on government money.
00:19:20.000 So they had a politician who was working with drug cartels and he was using the Coke money to send it to these anti-communist fighters In Nicaragua.
00:19:31.000 That was a true conspiracy theory.
00:19:33.000 And now we're shocked by it.
00:19:35.000 And there was a journalist who started to research it, and he was killed.
00:19:39.000 Murdered.
00:19:40.000 So I love conspiracy theories.
00:19:42.000 And as far as the Las Vegas shooting goes, I've talked to FBI dudes, and they say, I spoke to one guy, I'm not saying if this is true or not, I cannot validate this, no fact-checking here, but a guy involved in the FBI told me that he has intel, that Islam, ISIS, was involved in the Vegas shooting, and there was more than one shooter.
00:20:05.000 ISIS did take credit for that shooting.
00:20:08.000 We all seem to have conveniently forgot that.
00:20:10.000 And isn't it bizarre that every other shooting, Sandy Hook, the Quebec Mosque, every other shooting, actually the Quebec Mosque is a bad example because as Faith Goldie covered, we got all kinds of conflicting data on that.
00:20:22.000 And there was also talk of two shooters in that shooting.
00:20:25.000 But for almost every other shooting, you get tons of information in 24 hours.
00:20:29.000 We still have no idea what's going on with the Vegas shooting.
00:20:34.000 So yeah, theorize.
00:20:36.000 I want you to theorize about conspiracies.
00:20:41.000 The government, big business, they conspire all the time.
00:20:44.000 They just conspired to shut down Alex.
00:20:47.000 Big business and big government deplatformed Alex Jones.
00:20:51.000 That's a conspiracy and it's true.
00:20:55.000 Down ideological rabbit holes.
00:20:57.000 The site is designed to show you more of what you just watched.
00:21:00.000 So if you click Warren Southern video about immigration, the next video that auto plays is about white genocide.
00:21:06.000 And from here, it gets a lot worse.
00:21:08.000 Normally, the check on this kind of garbage would be advertisers.
00:21:12.000 Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh can be jerks all they want, but at the end of the day, their bosses have to worry about corporations freaking out and pulling their ads.
00:21:20.000 But YouTube is users rarely know what videos their ads are going to show up on.
00:21:24.000 For the most part, YouTube manages that relationship, assigning ads to videos and paying creators accordingly.
00:21:30.000 So if Southern is getting money from a Wix ad playing before her video about the end of white people, she never even has to talk to them.
00:21:36.000 And they likely don't know she exists.
00:21:39.000 Sir, I'd love you to know something.
00:21:42.000 No one conflates an ad on the internet with the content that follows it.
00:21:49.000 If you have an ad for Pampers and it's at the beginning of a story about a pedophile who murdered babies or something like that, no one goes, why is Pampers advocating for the murder of babies?
00:22:01.000 Aren't babies their bread and butter?
00:22:03.000 When you watch some horrible thing on the news on CNN and it's say the pulse shooting and then they cut to a commercial, you don't go, well, how dare Gatorade advocate for the murdering of gays?
00:22:17.000 That's not how ads work.
00:22:19.000 We are adults and we're able to separate that and we know it's just algorithms and computers doing that.
00:22:25.000 Everyone knows that.
00:22:28.000 But that relationship between YouTube and creators is changing.
00:22:31.000 In March this year, a group of 250 brands pulled back from YouTube after reports that their ads were appearing before extremist content, including white supremacist videos.
00:22:40.000 As a result, I remember when that controversy happened, and I looked up things like the N-word and really horrible things like N-word's got to go back to Africa.
00:22:54.000 Or, you know, you type it the worst thing you can think of, and those videos, they don't exist.
00:22:59.000 YouTube takes those down.
00:23:01.000 So whenever you type that in, the N-word, for example, you get rap or some black kids making a joke or a comedy video.
00:23:08.000 There isn't this massive influx of white power videos.
00:23:14.000 And if you see white genocide, it's usually a relatively balanced look at it.
00:23:19.000 There isn't a bunch of Ziegheiling Nazi skinheads on YouTube.
00:23:24.000 It gets pulled down.
00:23:25.000 And the fact that you were able to scare, you being liberals, were able to scare a bunch of corporations away from YouTube, you lost YouTube millions, you lost the companies millions, you lost innocent people millions, but you also pushed more people to the right because you said, I'm a killjoy.
00:23:44.000 I want more rules.
00:23:46.000 I want more regulation.
00:23:47.000 I want less fun.
00:23:48.000 I want less adventure.
00:23:49.000 I want less excitement.
00:23:50.000 That's not a good way to ingratiate yourself to millennials.
00:23:53.000 It's a good way to look like a wimp.
00:23:56.000 Explanation.
00:23:57.000 Political content creators, including ones who weren't peddling hate or conspiracy theories, were affected by it.
00:24:02.000 We were basically making nothing on YouTube existential threat to the show.
00:24:06.000 And people freaked out.
00:24:07.000 They called it the adpocalypse.
00:24:09.000 Adpocalypse.
00:24:10.000 Adpocalypse.
00:24:12.000 Most people that are in politics in general, I'm talking left-wing and right-wing, their salary has been halved just because of the whole adpocalypse situation where adpocators don't want to touch anything remotely controversial.
00:24:24.000 And it wasn't just demonetizing.
00:24:26.000 In August, YouTube announced new guidelines for how it would deal with hateful content, stating that these videos, quote, won't be recommended, won't be monetized, and won't have key features including comments, suggested videos, and likes.
00:24:37.000 Southern calls that shadow banning is happening.
00:24:39.000 These moves have gotten blowback from basically everyone.
00:24:42.000 They're trying to censor conservative media, nationalist media on YouTube.
00:24:46.000 Telling the truth is just not advertiser friendly.
00:24:49.000 And that's because there's really no good way to regulate this stuff.
00:24:52.000 YouTube sees about 400 hours of video uploaded every minute.
00:24:57.000 It's impossible to monitor that much content with any kind of precision.
00:25:00.000 But even if it wasn't, it's really tough to figure out what counts as hateful speech on YouTube.
00:25:06.000 Southerns'video about gay pride parade, I don't like it, but it sounds...
00:25:11.000 This guy just keeps showing us his point-form notes on the story without going anywhere with it.
00:25:18.000 Yeah, I know all this.
00:25:20.000 I know that the adpocalypse was a mess, and I know it's hard to regulate speech, which is why I am against any regulation of speech.
00:25:28.000 If you are for regulation of speech, then present to me an argument where it's dangerous.
00:25:34.000 All you've done is shown things that you don't like.
00:25:38.000 That's nice.
00:25:39.000 I care.
00:25:41.000 Sounds like pretty typical right-wing talk.
00:25:43.000 It got demonetized.
00:25:45.000 Southern's video about immigrants replacing white people, that feels a lot more like white nationalist stuff, but there's still an ad running on it.
00:25:51.000 It's tough for creators to predict what YouTube will deem as too toxic for advertisers.
00:25:56.000 So I asked Southern, where should YouTube draw the line?
00:25:58.000 The people that I'm seeing censored A lot of the time are people that are sitting down and making legitimate arguments.
00:26:03.000 And I'm sure you've seen Jared Taylor was the first one to have his videos totally sandboxed.
00:26:08.000 Jared Taylor, the white nationalist who thinks whites are genetically superior to blacks and Latinos.
00:26:08.000 Timeout.
00:26:13.000 And I would like to talk to you about racial differences in intelligence.
00:26:17.000 That's what he said.
00:26:18.000 Yeah, you can pause it there.
00:26:20.000 Jared Taylor believes that IQ tests reveal Asians to be smarter, Jews, I think it is, whites, maybe Indians, and then blacks, as far as general patterns go.
00:26:35.000 He also believes that segregation is natural and blacks would rather be with blacks and whites would rather be with whites.
00:26:42.000 Those are his beliefs.
00:26:44.000 I don't agree with that belief.
00:26:46.000 I think ideas are much more important than race.
00:26:48.000 But what the hell is the matter with that?
00:26:50.000 Why are you so why do you why is there a record scratch when someone says anyone's name?
00:26:56.000 Again, Professor Griff from Public Enemy.
00:26:58.000 He wants there to be states that are all black.
00:27:02.000 I'm not included in that utopia, by the way.
00:27:04.000 I don't care.
00:27:05.000 That doesn't affect me.
00:27:07.000 When they start and New York becomes one of the black states that Professor Griff gets, and I'm told I have to move and find my kids a new school and a new place to live, well, then I'll care.
00:27:15.000 But that's never going to happen because it's just a silly idea.
00:27:20.000 Disagree with what he's saying.
00:27:21.000 But he wasn't sitting there just spewing hatred.
00:27:24.000 That's the thing.
00:27:25.000 As a social justice warrior, I think this stuff plainly qualifies as hate speech.
00:27:29.000 But a lot of people don't.
00:27:30.000 And YouTube has to make that call for a staggering amount of content.
00:27:34.000 Cast the net too wide, and tons of creators get punished for even mentioning politics.
00:27:38.000 Cast it too narrowly and risk another mass advertiser boycott.
00:27:41.000 These two groups, advertisers and creators, need wildly different things from YouTube.
00:27:45.000 Creators need it to be.
00:27:47.000 I thought it was interesting that he says, and cause another massive advertiser boycott.
00:27:53.000 He acts like the massive advertiser boycott was some sort of natural market wave that just happened the way the market moves organically.
00:28:02.000 It just, we had one.
00:28:03.000 It was like that red tide you get in Florida now where there's all this toxic algae killing fish up and down the coast.
00:28:11.000 Yeah, that just is a natural evolution of nature.
00:28:14.000 No, it was a hysterical mob shrieking and harassing corporations and them being wimps and going, oh, okay, well, get rid of it.
00:28:24.000 Will you shut up now?
00:28:25.000 This is what I keep trying to get across on this show.
00:28:28.000 It's not about the free market.
00:28:30.000 It's not about the government.
00:28:31.000 We have a cultural problem here.
00:28:32.000 And the cultural problem is an ignorant, crazy, shrieking ex-girlfriend mob who harasses people.
00:28:40.000 So the example I like to use is, say you get a job at a law firm and you're doing well, but your crazy ex-girlfriend shows up and she smashes the front glass of your office and they pay $1,500 and have it replaced.
00:28:52.000 Then she shows up again and she smashes it and she gets arrested and blah, blah, blah.
00:28:55.000 And your boss goes, sorry, man, you're a great lawyer, but replacing the glass every day, I mean, it's scaring the other people who work here.
00:29:03.000 You just, you got to go.
00:29:04.000 And then they would say, well, that's the free market.
00:29:07.000 You got fired.
00:29:08.000 No, dude.
00:29:09.000 The problem is this crazy bitch who keeps throwing rocks through the window.
00:29:13.000 These people are a hysterical mob with pitchforks and they're ruining American culture.
00:29:20.000 And more importantly, they're ruining fun.
00:29:25.000 Open space where they can speak their minds and test ideas without fear of a corporate overlord.
00:29:30.000 But advertisers need to see that YouTube can rein in the platform's worst excesses.
00:29:34.000 That it can avoid being exploited by demagogues and conspiracy theorists and people making yet another makeup haul video.
00:29:40.000 I get it.
00:29:41.000 You bought more foundation.
00:29:42.000 Leave me out of this.
00:29:44.000 Sorry, that took me off guard.
00:29:46.000 Go back.
00:29:48.000 That it can avoid being exploited by demagogues and conspiracy theorists.
00:29:52.000 Exploited by demagogues.
00:29:54.000 Stefan Molignya is a demagogue who's exploiting YouTube.
00:30:00.000 I dare you to take that out of context.
00:30:03.000 What a crazy position that is.
00:30:05.000 Should we start censoring lunatics who see Stefan Moligna as a demagogue?
00:30:10.000 What are you talking about?
00:30:12.000 Stefan Molignyu's arguments are rock solid.
00:30:15.000 In fact, he invented the whole saying, not an argument.
00:30:20.000 And you just made not an argument at the founder of the not an argument argument.
00:30:25.000 What are you doing?
00:30:26.000 How is he a demagogue?
00:30:28.000 And say hypothetically he was.
00:30:31.000 What are you so scared of?
00:30:32.000 What's the matter with a demagogue?
00:30:33.000 And then secondly, sorry to repeat myself, but Alex Jones, conspiracy theorist.
00:30:38.000 So?
00:30:39.000 What's the matter with having a theory about a conspiracy?
00:30:43.000 That's called being curious.
00:30:44.000 That's called journalism.
00:30:46.000 That's called learning.
00:30:48.000 Conspiracy theorists and people making yet another makeup haul video.
00:30:52.000 I get it.
00:30:52.000 I can't joke about it.
00:30:52.000 You've got more foundation.
00:30:54.000 Leave me out of it.
00:30:55.000 The rise of the YouTube right is scary, but it's helping the world's biggest video platform to figure out what it wants to be.
00:31:03.000 Wow.
00:31:05.000 The YouTube right is scary.
00:31:07.000 Why are you so scared of an idea?
00:31:08.000 And you know what this guy accidentally proved?
00:31:11.000 He showed that he has no idea what to do, no idea how to fix it.
00:31:16.000 And that is the alt left.
00:31:18.000 That is the social justice warrior in a nutshell.
00:31:21.000 They want to tear everything down.
00:31:23.000 They want to shut you up and quiet this person.
00:31:27.000 They want to regulate everything.
00:31:28.000 They want to play God, but they have no idea to do it.
00:31:32.000 They say there's not two genders.
00:31:33.000 And you go, okay, what?
00:31:34.000 How many is there?
00:31:35.000 There's three.
00:31:36.000 Oh, really?
00:31:37.000 How much did you say?
00:31:38.000 Me?
00:31:39.000 I said there's five.
00:31:40.000 What?
00:31:41.000 Are you talking to me?
00:31:42.000 Yeah, there's 72.
00:31:44.000 And they keep going and going and going with it because they have no idea what they're doing.
00:31:50.000 They only want to wreck stuff and they have nothing to replace it.
00:31:59.000 Michael, are you there?
00:32:00.000 I'm here.
00:32:01.000 How you doing?
00:32:03.000 Good to see you, Gavin.
00:32:04.000 It's good to see you.
00:32:05.000 Now, you always seem to be the voice of sanity in a world gone mad.
00:32:10.000 And is it just me or is this the craziest past few days?
00:32:14.000 We've got Candace Owen getting screamed at and attacked with Charlie Kirk.
00:32:18.000 We've got Tommy Robinson banned from Instagram.
00:32:21.000 And we have Infowars banned from everything.
00:32:24.000 What is going on?
00:32:26.000 I don't know which one is crazier.
00:32:27.000 The thing I can conclude is that the frogs are only Going to get gayer from here on out.
00:32:32.000 We know from Candace, for people who haven't seen the video, she's out there, she's at a restaurant, and this gaggle of blue-haired white girls start screaming F-white supremacy in her face.
00:32:46.000 The way to stop white supremacy is scream through a blowhorn into a black woman's face because she doesn't behave the way you tell her to behave.
00:32:54.000 Well, the far left's rebuttal to that is, no, no, they were mad at Charlie Kirk.
00:33:01.000 I don't know why the bullhorn kept going into Candace Owens' face then.
00:33:05.000 Did you hear one of the whistle right in her eardrum?
00:33:07.000 Yeah, yeah.
00:33:07.000 Right.
00:33:08.000 She had to push it away from her face.
00:33:10.000 One of the quotes I heard on the bullhorn was, because Candace goes, I hate big government.
00:33:14.000 And she goes, oh, yeah, you hate big government?
00:33:17.000 Or is that because part of what big government does is that's all.
00:33:25.000 My favorite part was when they ditched the big government is big government is big government.
00:33:30.000 They ditched the F-white supremacy and they just started shrieking, just guttural screams like demons mawing in hell.
00:33:38.000 They really did.
00:33:39.000 You're not exaggerating.
00:33:41.000 I think what's really going on here is they know, it's sort of like a crazy girl who knows she's about to get dumped because she's so crazy.
00:33:48.000 And so she keeps getting crazier and crazier and smashing the windows in your house and burning your clothes.
00:33:54.000 They know Trump's going to win.
00:33:56.000 So they're trying to shut down social media and scare everyone from going outside, which is ironic because it just gets Trump more elected.
00:34:05.000 They have to shut it down.
00:34:06.000 I mean, this whole F-white supremacy thing is so important because Donald Trump's support among black voters has doubled in just the last four or five months.
00:34:15.000 But they have to shut it down because, for instance, with Alex Jones, right, he's an easy target.
00:34:21.000 And there are some sort of, you know, sophisticated conservatives who sip Chablis who they won't defend Alex Jones because Alex Jones is very kooky and frequently doesn't wear a shirt and talks about all the gay frogs.
00:34:32.000 So they won't defend him.
00:34:33.000 What they don't realize is that taking down Alex Jones is just the first step.
00:34:38.000 It's establishing the principle to censor all the rest of us.
00:34:41.000 They didn't take him down for spreading fake news about gay frogs or whatever.
00:34:44.000 They shut him down for hate speech about Islamophobia and transphobia and illegal immigration.
00:34:52.000 That's what they shut him down for.
00:34:53.000 And they're going to come for us on the exact same principle before the midterms.
00:34:56.000 Oh, yeah, we're all doomed.
00:34:58.000 And CRTV is going to get attacked.
00:35:01.000 You guys, Daily Wire is going to get attacked.
00:35:03.000 Daily Caller is going to get attacked.
00:35:05.000 Remember, there was a Daily Caller reporter.
00:35:07.000 I had him on my show, Sager.
00:35:11.000 He got a normal question where he said something about Deport.
00:35:15.000 I can't remember what the question was.
00:35:16.000 It was a perfectly normal question.
00:35:18.000 And the outrage was that Trump would dare call on the Daily Caller, clearly a white supremacist publication.
00:35:25.000 And you go, the Daily Caller?
00:35:27.000 You guys have lost.
00:35:29.000 I'm kind of middle of the pack here.
00:35:31.000 You know, this is not fringy exactly.
00:35:33.000 No, everything centrist, everything slightly to the right of Bernie needs to be physically attacked, shut down, deplatformed, and then just screamed at.
00:35:47.000 You know why?
00:35:47.000 It's because they can't use language.
00:35:49.000 They actually, and this gets to all of this, that they can't use logic, facts don't care about your feelings, that whole thing.
00:35:55.000 They can't use language.
00:35:56.000 It's all just personal interests and like, you know, red faces and steam coming out of your ears.
00:36:03.000 And it's just this.
00:36:04.000 And they can't do it.
00:36:05.000 And we can just laugh at them.
00:36:06.000 I mean, we are just laughing.
00:36:08.000 The more they double down, Trump's going to jail, Trump's going to this, they're going to throw Paul Manafort in jail for wearing nice suits.
00:36:14.000 They've got nothing.
00:36:15.000 They've got absolutely nothing.
00:36:16.000 They get them on this Russia meeting, the Trump Tower meeting with Don Jr.
00:36:21.000 If they say that that was criminal, then we know that buying the dossier by the Clintons was criminal.
00:36:26.000 They cannot win.
00:36:27.000 They are just losing left and right, and so they have to scream.
00:36:30.000 I would scream if I were them, too.
00:36:32.000 Well, they demand this world of intense scrutiny where you're responsible for everything you've ever said, taken out of context.
00:36:39.000 And we say, okay, your pedophile jokes, you taking the nomination from Bernie, you colluding with Russia, you selling uranium to an enemy of ours.
00:36:51.000 I mean, it keeps going on and on.
00:36:52.000 We say, you started this crazy game.
00:36:55.000 But that was the past.
00:36:56.000 With the Clintons, that's always, it's the past.
00:36:58.000 That's old news.
00:36:59.000 Now, if you're a conservative, your tweets from 50 years ago, you know, 40 years before Twitter existed, that's not old news.
00:37:05.000 That's very important.
00:37:06.000 But the Clintons, no, no.
00:37:07.000 Hey, come on.
00:37:08.000 What?
00:37:09.000 You're still in there with Monica Lewinsky.
00:37:10.000 Now, it's old news.
00:37:11.000 She walked in, what, 10 minutes ago?
00:37:13.000 It's old news.
00:37:14.000 I think the only thing they have is the following motto.
00:37:18.000 Hate has no home here.
00:37:20.000 And they're selling them as lawn signs on the Democratic website and the DNC's website.
00:37:28.000 And you go, yeah, I agree.
00:37:30.000 What?
00:37:31.000 You're anti-hate?
00:37:32.000 I hate hate too.
00:37:33.000 I hate Mondays.
00:37:34.000 I hate it when it rains on my birthday.
00:37:36.000 I hate Mondays, you know.
00:37:37.000 I hate having whistles blown in my ear for one.
00:37:40.000 I know.
00:37:41.000 Well, it's like the Love Trump's Hate was my favorite one because they actually wrote us a campaign slogan.
00:37:47.000 That's obviously a pro-Trump slogan, isn't it?
00:37:51.000 Love Trump's Hate.
00:37:53.000 They didn't figure that one out.
00:37:54.000 I'm telling you, I mean, you helped me find the humor in it, but I'm genuinely concerned about the day after the election.
00:38:00.000 I think I'm going to be out of the country because they're going to just start throwing things through windows and screaming at the top of their lungs and driving their cars into buildings.
00:38:09.000 It's going to be crazy jihad.
00:38:12.000 Well, you know, the trouble is when they start the Civil War, you hear all the talk about the Civil War, we do have all the guns, which does make me feel a little bit safe.
00:38:20.000 But still, I mean, in the short run, look, I think this bodes very well for us.
00:38:24.000 Historically, we should lose the House.
00:38:26.000 We should probably lose the Senate.
00:38:27.000 Things on the electoral map are looking much, much better for Republicans because of all the successes of the administration.
00:38:33.000 So in the short run, good.
00:38:34.000 Run your socialists, censor every conservative in America.
00:38:38.000 That's fine.
00:38:38.000 In the long run, it is a little scary because they are just mainstreaming socialism at this point.
00:38:43.000 The Democrat Party ran away from socialism for 100 years.
00:38:46.000 Now they are embracing it.
00:38:47.000 The head of the DNC, Tom Perez, is saying the future of the Democrat Party is socialism.
00:38:53.000 It's socialist candidates like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
00:38:57.000 That's a word of it.
00:38:58.000 Ocasio-Cortez is pronounced.
00:39:00.000 That's all.
00:39:01.000 I got to work on my pronunciation.
00:39:05.000 Michael Starring.
00:39:07.000 you're totally right.
00:39:10.000 The sanest they get is this socialist talk, and then the craziest they get is downright homicidal.
00:39:15.000 We're out of time, but thanks for coming on the show and delivering some sanity.
00:39:20.000 Gavin, good to see you.
00:39:21.000 Cheers, buddy.
00:39:25.000 And that's the show, my friend.
00:39:27.000 That's the show for the week.
00:39:28.000 It's now your weekend.
00:39:29.000 It's time for you to put on a Hawaiian shirt and go drink a frosty blackberry margarita with a large water.
00:39:37.000 But before we go, I wanted to show you something.
00:39:40.000 I was surprised to see not only is Ryan, or aka disgruntled lover, a great engineer, an asset to the show, he's sort of bringing comedy back into the show with all his adorable imitations.
00:39:56.000 But what I find fascinating about Ryan is there's so many layers to him.
00:40:01.000 Like, I didn't know that he was an alcoholic with crippling cerebral palsy and a gift when it comes to martial arts.
00:40:10.000 But I discovered this video and was pleasantly surprised.
00:40:16.000 So there he is.
00:40:18.000 Chugging.
00:40:19.000 I assume that's alcoholic.
00:40:23.000 What did you say there, Ryan?
00:40:24.000 I don't want to ruin this, but that's not...
00:40:35.000 Oh, I apologize.
00:40:37.000 That's not you?
00:40:39.000 No, we look real different.
00:40:41.000 By the way, that hand chop, just to abandon the bit and get serious for a second, appears to defy physics.
00:40:50.000 I didn't, like, you must have been traveling at 150 miles an hour to smash that.
00:40:55.000 That one's more like it.
00:40:57.000 No, no, no.
00:40:58.000 Have some faith.
00:40:59.000 Oh, you're right.
00:41:00.000 That's not you.
00:41:00.000 What am I talking about?
00:41:02.000 Look at that.
00:41:03.000 Smashed a brick.
00:41:08.000 This is mean.
00:41:10.000 No.
00:41:11.000 We are celebrating him.
00:41:13.000 We're not laughing at him, and we're impressed.
00:41:17.000 Okay, if he can do this, I'll be impressed.
00:41:21.000 When do you get to use a skill like this?
00:41:24.000 Ow, dude.
00:41:26.000 Not bad.
00:41:27.000 Well, that ruins it.
00:41:28.000 I was under the impression that was you.
00:41:30.000 I am sorry about that.
00:41:31.000 You don't want to watch this last one?
00:41:32.000 Okay, let's watch the last one.
00:41:33.000 Why does he have to...
00:41:38.000 There he goes.
00:41:39.000 Well, he's having a blast.
00:41:42.000 I don't understand that addition to the trick.
00:41:45.000 Get wet first so I can't see.
00:41:47.000 Okay, if he does that without something to brace it, I'm going to poop my pants.
00:41:51.000 I'm going to wet my panties.
00:41:52.000 He's got his bracing stone?
00:41:54.000 Okay, good.
00:41:54.000 He has a bracing stone.
00:41:55.000 Alright.
00:41:56.000 And this first one hurt me a lot.
00:41:58.000 I mean, and what him?
00:42:02.000 Wow.
00:42:02.000 Wow.
00:42:03.000 Tough guy.
