00:00:14.980 But just don't say it out loud.
00:00:16.060 You're probably just going to be some rich guy
00:00:17.460 and he's going to whisk you away.
00:00:19.760 This is awkward.
00:00:20.820 Listen to No Safe Words with October and Tony Gonzalez
00:00:23.640 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast,

00:00:34.200 money get the bag i thought your song to david was amazing so i wrote some lyrics about my
00:00:39.300 friend mike i was kind of nervous to meet someone old and i was really glad when you got off of
00:00:44.200 parole do you have any other nicknames for her besides sweet cakes i guess that's the only
00:00:49.200 nickname i have for her do you mind if he starts calling me sweet cakes very funny
00:00:53.080 I've got to take one of each Lunchable
00:00:55.520 It's lunchly
00:00:58.860 I could see the confusion
00:00:59.940 But we're a much better product
00:01:01.380 In my opinion
00:01:02.240 11 grams of protein
00:01:03.720 You're gosh dang right
00:01:04.620 Speaking of getting engaged
00:01:06.780 Is that on the agenda for you two
00:01:08.780 Eventually
00:01:09.420 Let's go
00:01:18.080 This is so exciting
00:01:18.800 Do you like how that sounds?
00:01:19.940 Yes
00:01:20.240 Oh amazing
00:01:21.060 Let's go
00:01:21.960 less distractions
00:01:23.660 I like the headphones we can hear each other
00:01:26.500 if Mike takes a breath or
00:01:28.420 on the opposite end doesn't stop talking
00:01:30.280 we all know to just let him go
00:01:32.100 does happen
00:01:32.740 Ben, Christy and Abby
00:01:35.520 Christine not Christine
00:01:37.100 this guy 0.96
00:01:40.100 over here get him out of here
00:01:42.460 I'm so sorry Christine 1.00
00:01:43.680 I know there's not a lot of women in here
00:01:45.660 just you and me
00:01:47.340 but we make up for a whole party of women don't we
00:01:50.340 Yeah, you guys are a representation of the whole.
00:01:52.980 Yes, exactly.
00:01:54.100 I'm so sorry, Christine.
00:01:55.080 No, it's all right.
00:01:56.180 You can call me Jake.
00:01:56.780 Because this is an old memory because my preschool teacher, Miss Beverly,
00:02:01.420 and she made me line up with the boys.
00:02:03.320 Why?
00:02:04.540 We weren't going to get into this.
00:02:06.200 Well, I'm just letting you know because that's what that brings.
00:02:09.800 And that made me feel like a fish out of water.
00:02:12.160 Yeah, you've been misgendered.
00:02:14.120 Okay, do you want to tell them the whole story?
00:02:15.900 Yes.
00:02:16.220 Now that you brought it up.
00:02:17.340 Let's do it together.
00:02:18.020 Let's tell the whole story.
00:02:19.140 Do you want me to help you?
00:02:19.900 Yeah.
00:02:21.320 Okay.
00:02:22.120 I'll make a long story short.
00:02:23.320 I made a long story short.
00:02:24.660 That's an idiom.
00:02:25.520 That's good.
00:02:26.580 When you were?
00:02:28.440 Four.
00:02:29.220 I went to?
00:02:30.480 A preschool.
00:02:31.860 One of my friends who went there is now in medical school and got engaged.
00:02:35.460 Wow.
00:02:35.600 Congrats to that person.
00:02:37.180 Both of them got engaged.
00:02:38.340 Amazing.
00:02:38.660 Both of them got engaged.
00:02:39.440 She's in med school.
00:02:40.620 That's amazing.
00:02:41.180 Crazy that she's going to be getting married soon.
00:02:43.580 She is.
00:02:44.420 But what happened there that sticks in your mind because of your memory?
00:02:48.700 My preschool teacher, Ms. Beverly, this is what she made me do.
00:02:51.540 She had all the girls line up, then all the boys,
00:02:55.020 and then she made me line up at the end of the line with the boys.
00:02:58.060 Yeah.
00:02:58.820 I say we cancel her.
00:03:00.140 Yeah.
00:03:00.960 Oh, she got canceled, all right.
00:03:02.260 One day she was out sick, and I told the assistant teacher, Ms. Zoya,
00:03:05.920 I belong with the girls.
00:03:07.380 So I walked out of line with my aide and walked to the end of the girl line with my aide. 0.89
00:03:13.060 Heck yeah.
00:03:13.860 Heck yeah.
00:03:14.180 She did.
00:03:14.860 You took it into your own hands.
00:03:16.300 She did.
00:03:16.760 i was shocked because she didn't have a lot of language then uh for me to understand what was
00:03:21.100 going on and i found out this was happening and this teacher was it was hard for us she didn't
00:03:26.280 understand autism and neither did i really because she was really young at the time i was gonna say
00:03:30.880 has she been officially diagnosed at that point yep and interesting she had a she had an aid and
00:03:35.560 helpers and stuff like that but it it was really hard because abby thinks in memories this is i'm
00:03:41.280 I'm a gestalt learner, and I'm even in a therapy right now.
00:03:44.720 And part of that is this memory thing.
00:03:46.980 So the memory of that isolation has stuck with her as a way to access her whole life.
00:03:52.740 Interesting.
00:03:53.140 Being separated, being at the end of the line, feeling like you didn't fit in, was maximized by that physical action. 0.76
00:04:00.780 That's why I associated girls is good and boys is bad. 0.98
00:04:04.140 I think that's generally correct.
00:04:06.520 Well, not all guys are bad.
00:04:07.940 It depends.
00:04:08.480 Not David.
00:04:09.180 Yeah.
00:04:09.720 It depends.
00:04:10.100 it depends on the person it's all it's all it would be boring if we were all the same
00:04:15.220 it would be boring exactly that's like people in sacramento for example anyways um can i can i maybe
00:04:21.860 can i maybe make a suggestion something i kind of heard from that story and and what uh was kind of
00:04:28.280 became maybe a traumatic experience or memory for abby and how she like processes and thinks about
00:04:34.460 things the best part of that story was at the end of the day you took life into your own hands
00:04:39.920 and you went into the line and became who you're supposed to be yeah so while it started off with
00:04:44.960 isolation it was you even at a young age doing what you wanted to do yeah in life which i think
00:04:51.600 is really cool and maybe that's a different way to think about when i heard the story i was like
00:04:55.420 bawling because i couldn't believe that she was able to advocate even then even though the language
00:04:59.800 wasn't expressed to me or the outside world she had enough sort of self-awareness to take charge
00:05:05.580 yeah yeah that's what i'm saying that's what she's done now i'm her plus one for everything
00:05:08.800 you guys are the plus two today yeah i normally do an intro for our guests uh i think we should
00:05:16.780 i think we should do it uh because i'm just i'm really excited to have you here abby um man
00:05:22.380 we got the star from the greatest show on television
00:05:26.400 to my right ladies and gentlemen it's abby from love on the spectrum
00:05:29.940 is is david coming yes okay okay okay okay very cool so this is mike he's my best friend co-host
00:05:39.800 big brother nice to meet you mike i was gonna ask you about that experience a little bit i guess
00:05:45.720 both of you guys because really for anybody to experience something like that that could be
00:05:51.260 considered like a trauma at early age it sticks with anybody that that feeling of exclusion or
00:05:56.920 you know not being worthy christina have you noticed that for someone that is on the spectrum
00:06:02.840 that that experience is even more traumatic i think some people on the spectrum have this
00:06:08.340 incredible memory that a neurotypical person doesn't have their memories are so intense
00:06:14.060 and they pop in their heads randomly sometimes it's a trigger abby remember the show this is us
00:06:20.680 yes what can you tell speaking of there was a show called this is us um and when you watch the
00:06:25.940 show you're gonna see flashbacks from when they were babies to toddlers to children to teenagers
00:06:30.700 is that kind of how that's how my mind works like i think about myself in flashbacks from when i was
00:06:36.920 in preschool elementary school middle school and even high school how much how much of your day is
00:06:43.900 spent uh thinking about stuff from the past versus now it's like a flashback like what happens in
00:06:49.460 this is lost like if i talk about second grade or third grade or even you see it vividly in your
00:06:54.340 yeah like a movie playing i always give this example so you go see mission impossible and
00:06:59.520 you're in it for two hours right you come out of the theater jacked up like you come in kind of
00:07:04.260 like you know what i mean you you're still in the movie head of just having seen that there's like
00:07:08.400 an energy takes you a couple minutes to adjust i think it happens to her all the time throughout
00:07:14.080 the day based on whatever memory comes in it's so vivid it's like a movie playing so it takes her
00:07:19.740 out of what's happening right here do you have a do you have a neurological rationale for that
00:07:25.280 is it is there what what from a scientific standpoint is underdeveloped and what is
00:07:30.040 overactive in the uh autistic mind that that causes something like that to happen i think
00:07:35.620 some people what i've learned on tiktok i know i know but you like tiktok listen i thought they
00:07:42.720 were selling me a bowl of goods i hear about this gestalt language processor and i was like here we
00:07:47.020 go another therapy i mean i was really like on the fence but i really put my ego away so let's hear
00:07:53.040 what this is and i started thinking i was like yeah this is what it is so it's a aspect of
00:07:58.080 language development in autism i think and uh i think abby really falls into that abby why don't
00:08:04.440 you tell us about what you've learned about your gestalt language stuff my gestalt language i'm
00:08:09.300 learning something like a visual dictionary like my gestalt teacher ryan i mean she's like my new
00:08:14.620 speech therapist she does ai which stands for artificial intelligence yep and what she puts
00:08:21.420 the categories of bad and the feeling words next to it or even the good categories together and the
00:08:25.860 feeling words next to it and even she puts the inside out characters of each emotion of how i
00:08:30.920 feel it's amazing right because abby remember what the what's the gestalt thing you think
00:08:35.180 in memories and you speak in categories and memories well you know what i should do i have
00:08:41.040 to think it don't say it just like one time my mom showed me this homeless man talking to himself
00:08:46.680 and she was trying to show me how it looked people were staring at him so abby sometimes will speak
00:08:51.400 those memories um out loud which is okay but if you're in a public place i wanted her to just see
00:08:58.660 what it would look like i didn't know if that was the right thing or do or not because i you know
00:09:02.720 as a parent you don't know what to do you're just trying to help your kid and i knew that that
00:09:06.660 particularly like he couldn't help it so we were very clear that we had to have compassion for him
00:09:10.260 and we weren't looking at him we were looking at the other people so we could see their reactions
00:09:15.220 because they were either scared or they were confused or they didn't know so i just wanted
00:09:20.260 her because i think people with autism sometimes don't understand what it looks like from someone
00:09:24.600 else's perspective i think first off you're an amazing mom as well even even on the show you
00:09:30.180 just you come across so great i'm sure you can attest uh uh yeah you you're also amazing brother
00:09:35.420 i can imagine and the way the way you just like talk about this and and in the show in general
00:09:41.840 part of the reason i love it is because it helps the viewers understand the complexities of autism
00:09:46.320 and it's like it's just really fascinating to learn about um i think i think think it don't
00:09:52.460 say it it and i'm i'm rambling i was rambling i was rambling i think think it don't say it is
00:10:03.020 Maybe some good advice that I could have used in my life along the way.
00:10:06.680 Maybe Mike as well.
00:10:07.780 For sure.
00:10:08.680 I want to ask you about something so great, so great, Abby.
00:10:12.520 You sang a love song to David.
00:10:15.720 I did.
00:10:16.620 And it went crazy viral.
00:10:19.460 Yes.
00:10:20.400 And it was so good.
00:10:22.600 Thank you.
00:10:23.180 People are praising how good of a songwriter you are.
00:10:26.380 Where does this ability come from?
00:10:28.020 Who helps you?
00:10:29.520 My cousin Mary, her college roommate Casey helped me.
00:10:32.800 really
00:10:33.300 Casey Kelly
00:10:34.240 she's like my
00:10:34.920 composer
00:10:35.420 well she's your
00:10:36.940 co-writer
00:10:37.420 you guys do it
00:10:38.080 together
00:10:38.520 do you like
00:10:40.180 write songs
00:10:41.260 yeah she's
00:10:42.640 written her own
00:10:43.200 songs I've
00:10:43.700 written mine
00:10:44.340 let me tell you
00:10:45.480 my favorite
00:10:45.900 lyric
00:10:46.320 I know
00:10:50.020 sometimes I'm
00:10:50.920 in my head
00:10:51.620 but when I'm
00:10:52.800 with you I'm
00:10:53.360 in the world
00:10:53.840 instead
00:10:54.460 wow
00:10:55.660 dude it
00:10:56.820 that's incredible
00:10:57.860 everyone watching
00:10:58.840 that was like
00:10:59.380 what the
00:11:00.100 I got goosebumps
00:11:01.140 watching I'm like
00:11:01.860 oh my god
00:11:02.340 that's amazing we all get goosebumps yeah yeah yeah well in special special moments that make
00:11:08.080 you feel you made me feel with that song i felt the love between you and david yeah it was really
00:11:13.120 amazing because he he does have different aspects to his autism even though they have a ton of
00:11:17.420 special interests there are certain things that abby has that he tries to be patient with he's
00:11:22.060 still learning about you know he he's um doesn't have some of those same struggles i mean what does
00:11:27.580 david have that you don't have synesthesia he associates numbers as colors it's fascinating
00:11:32.620 very fast does anyone say david play the simon game with the colors that light up he got a really
00:11:38.440 high score really it's bonkers because he's because of a synesthesia right so what does he
00:11:43.640 do he is so what tell us about he counts in colors he said goes whenever he the color lights up he
00:11:48.780 says the number of it like when the blue lights up he'll say four and when the green lights up
00:11:53.460 he'll say five and when the red lights up he'll say two and when the yellow lights up he'll say
00:11:58.840 three so that's easier than if you think about it like memorizing a long string of numbers is
00:12:04.480 may be easier than memorizing a long string of colors does that make sense so for simon
00:12:08.980 yeah if if it's four five three four five six seven a phone number for example you might do
00:12:14.400 a better job than all the colors yeah interesting colors so when he's playing it he's going five
00:12:19.880 five six six three two one four eight seven nine it's like the string of numbers i got four that's
00:12:28.480 where i'm at i got i got four colors but you like know them at this point right he's taught you
00:12:34.160 because i i saw you like reciting it on uh on the show you guys have learned a lot about each other
00:12:41.000 i'm sure what else did you memorize of david tabby i memorized all his stuffed animals named
00:12:47.100 And after his favorite foods, African stuffed animals like s'mores, the lion, spaghetti, the giraffe, cheese, pizza, the crocodile and cotton candy, the flamingo, French rib, authentic fox, Cheetos, the cheetah, cake, butter, donut, the spotted hyena.
00:13:01.500 This is impressive.
00:13:03.840 All those animals and even hamburger, the hippopotamus, popcorn, the rhinoceros, lollipop, the zebra, Oreo, the elephant.
00:13:11.740 This is amazing.
00:13:13.040 I have a question.
00:13:14.080 And chicken nugget, the ostrich.
00:13:15.460 I love chicken nuggets.
00:13:16.240 and ostriches
00:13:17.700 and the size of their eggs.
00:13:19.700 So big.
00:13:20.360 They're huge, really.
00:13:22.260 I have a question
00:13:23.060 maybe it's good to ask
00:13:23.900 before David gets here.
00:13:25.900 What happens to the stuffed animals
00:13:27.400 when you guys get married?
00:13:29.320 I don't know.
00:13:30.520 He even makes my stuffed animals
00:13:31.860 talk like this.
00:13:33.040 I love you.
00:13:33.840 I love you.
00:13:34.500 I love you.
00:13:36.060 And he even makes them laugh
00:13:37.920 when I, like this.
00:13:40.560 Stop it, Abby.
00:13:41.540 That tickles.
00:13:42.780 Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop.
00:13:44.700 Man, you guys have so much fun
00:13:46.120 together it's amazing mike used to be in a relationship yeah i was at one point christine
00:13:51.020 can i ask you a question uh i think a lot of people look at uh being on the spectrum kind of
00:13:57.340 as a as a disability and i i i can understand that obviously and and and see that but
00:14:03.300 with with these special talents are there certain roles uh in the world that you see
00:14:09.980 people on the spectrum being better at than the average person like for example
00:14:14.300 if i wanted to hire abby to come i don't know count cards with me at the casino for example
00:14:20.220 what are some things like that that maybe they would be better at than than the uh non-afflicted
00:14:28.500 or non i don't know that's fine i don't have any offense to how people no it's totally cool because
00:14:34.440 um it's great you're asking i mean that's the main thing um when she was younger i used to say
00:14:40.140 you know these kids with autism the kind of autism she has let's clarify that because autism is so
00:14:47.060 different person to person and there's no other way to describe it i'd say gosh you shouldn't
00:14:52.020 work for the fbi they should put her like in a tower that's what i'm kind of looking for the
00:14:56.240 enemy when you can't use radar when the grid goes you've heard the chaos now you can see it
00:15:01.860 oh my gosh watch all your favorite podcasts from start to finish right inside the free

00:15:44.680 But why don't we list some of the things we might talk about on a regular episode?
00:15:48.260 So sometimes we'll talk about, I don't know, the Uber driver we just had.
00:15:52.000 And how nice they were, or if we tipped them or not.
00:15:55.080 Come and find out.
00:15:56.220 Sometimes we'll talk about that weird news story from last week.
00:15:59.500 It's the one you're thinking about, trust me.
00:16:01.760 Or maybe we'll talk about music and what's happening in the underground,
00:16:04.720 or drama and music or TV shows or the Met Gala and what the actors wore.
00:16:10.540 What we're saying is we're not afraid to talk about everything under the sun.
00:16:13.700 And if you want to see what that's like, come join us.
00:16:16.300 It's a place where everyone can hang out.

00:16:38.300 We get real about marriage, parenthood, sex, divorce, and all the nitty gritty stuff we

00:16:45.340 I hate that job.
00:16:46.240 You're probably just going to meet with some rich guy and he's going to whisk you away
00:16:48.940 and I'll never see you again.
00:16:51.480 Would you say a D-list actor?
00:16:54.940 D?
00:16:56.920 I don't even know there's such a thing as D.
00:16:58.760 No, no, no.
00:16:59.400 I mean like...
00:16:59.920 I can't even get on the C-list.
00:17:00.860 Like I'm not even average.
00:17:01.720 I'm not even passing.
00:17:02.680 I'm failing.
00:17:03.520 Listen to No Safe Words with October and Tony Gonzalez,
00:17:06.180 part of My Cultura Podcast Network.
00:17:08.880 Available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts,
00:17:12.200 or wherever you get your podcasts.
00:17:14.600 It's down because the attention to detail is insane.
00:17:18.900 The visual is insane.
00:17:20.380 We were at a kid's party once, and Abby's looking up in the sky.
00:17:23.660 She was about, how old were you, six?
00:17:24.780 Seven.
00:17:25.300 Seven.
00:17:25.740 And I saw a bald eagle.
00:17:27.380 In the valley.
00:17:29.280 There's a bald eagle up there, and everyone's like, oh, come on.
00:17:31.900 it was like no one saw anything and just pooh-poohed it and one parent kept looking to see
00:17:37.120 and about about 45 seconds later that's a long time all of a sudden this bald eagle appeared
00:17:44.000 and sure enough no one could see it except her and no one believed her until that one dad kept
00:17:49.320 looking you see that splinter skill there it's like how do you even do that is there is there
00:17:53.740 an organization that helps place uh people on the spectrum into into environments like that
00:18:00.840 i i'm sorry i'm super fascinated and interested in this in as as this continues to build out
00:18:06.700 obviously society has gotten so obsessed with the show and with abby and there's been such a
00:18:12.000 movement to to support this the community that is on the spectrum over the past like 20 i would say
00:18:17.160 years but is there an organization that helps place people with these special skills into
00:18:21.440 jobs it really depends on the skills the issue i personally have is that the diagnostic language
00:18:27.840 we used changed in 2013. We used to have something called Asperger's. Asperger's identified a
00:18:33.640 population of people that usually didn't have a speech delay. Like they could, they didn't 0.76
00:18:38.300 necessarily need 20 years of speech therapy to really converse and learn pragmatic language.
00:18:43.360 Those Asperger people, many of them are scientists, engineers, you know, right on smart, 1.00
00:18:49.180 amazing people that don't really like social skills. It's just not their bag. 1.00
00:18:52.800 Hey, and speaking of Asperger's, I say, I don't have autism. I have Asperger's because I,
00:18:57.160 because I wish I didn't have a speech delay
00:18:58.860 and I wished I was also Jewish. 0.50
00:19:01.520 Go!
00:19:03.360 Dylan's Jewish.
00:19:04.440 If I had no speech delay, 0.90
00:19:05.700 I would probably be celebrating Hanukkah,
00:19:07.620 lighting eight candles a night.
00:19:09.040 Yeah, yeah.
00:19:09.920 I'm 7% Jewish.
00:19:11.620 I'm only 1% Jewish. 1.00
00:19:13.520 That counts.
00:19:14.880 Christine and Ben.
00:19:16.060 My boyfriend's Jewish.
00:19:17.800 Oh, amazing.
00:19:18.800 David's Jewish.
00:19:20.000 Yeah.
00:19:20.680 Ben, you got to answer this too,
00:19:22.540 both you guys.
00:19:23.620 How hard is it to,
00:19:25.660 how funny has it been i can't even imagine like i cannot even imagine how amazing the stuff that
00:19:33.180 comes out of her mouth is there's there's some pretty um there's some pretty blunt observations
00:19:37.620 that are made it's like everything you think is just said you know that's how it is so there's
00:19:43.080 some things not offensive but like observant um i don't know if i should even there's that
00:19:48.080 remember the uh the one with her uh ta you got a call from her school i'm gonna say it it's funny
00:19:53.080 it's funny move the mic a little closer yeah who are you talking about mom you had you had this one
00:19:58.540 you had this one assistant in school i think you were in maybe high school or like late middle
00:20:03.380 school or something and we got a call home saying something about like you know abby there was there
00:20:07.680 was like a thing that happened at school and i just remember the the incident was that abby was
00:20:12.620 getting really frustrated because she was fidgeting you were fidgeting with something i think at school
00:20:16.180 and your ta came over your aid came over and said hey can you stop fidgeting i don't even remember
00:20:21.260 you got no you'll remember it when i say it you got annoyed and you said okay african-american
00:20:26.100 woman that's what you said not offensive that's not like speaking of it's just an observation
00:20:32.420 speaking of insults one time i was in new york city and going into times square
00:20:38.320 almost two years ago and there was this guy on a bike who almost got run over and he goes 0.99
00:20:43.040 fuck you asshole that guy on the bike that one's stuck yeah you'll hear a lot of things like that 0.99
00:20:50.600 new york yeah because he almost got run over and guess what took place in new york sesame street 1.00
00:20:55.980 i love sesame street and the cookie monsters oh cookies yeah i know yep yep yep i love cookie
00:21:01.960 monster comedy is another interesting angle and aspect have there been any comedians that have
00:21:07.900 been on the spectrum i mean it's like there's the the population now because there's a couple of
00:21:13.240 things there's autism autism awareness social media tiktok the show there's a lot of expansion
00:21:18.800 of understanding hey what's going on with these people not everyone's a sit down be quiet learner
00:21:23.600 from the blackboard there's all these variations of our neurology that are being uh identified which
00:21:28.260 is a great great thing but for us having differences that impact your daily life we
00:21:34.100 needed interventions and services do you know what i mean so those asperger people i was mentioning
00:21:38.440 before which you can't say anymore which are now part of the same population as her they have these
00:21:42.560 like level one two and three it's kind of like if you if you're non-speaking or non-verbal you're
00:21:47.420 profoundly autistic or level three but if you're an engineer and you have internal struggles you
00:21:53.840 kind of have the same diagnosis and that's really hard to figure out so then you say yeah i see
00:21:57.820 comedians all the time going i just found out i was on the spectrum and yeah i mean i knew i was
00:22:02.140 weird as a kid and there really was something going on for that person i truly believe that
00:22:06.620 and i'm so grateful that they have a chance to identify but it's zero crossover to what she has
00:22:13.040 and what we've done that's why i think some of us feel like we're being silenced or erased or like
00:22:17.080 our stories are invalid because we need to advocate uh abby needs a little guidance a
00:22:21.800 little prompting here and there she's a rock star for you guys 22 years of speech therapy i mean
00:22:27.160 this was a lifelong thing when you were little like what was it like when you were little you
00:22:30.920 had well it was you know therapists in and out of the house and you know things going on at school
00:22:34.920 too so it was like it was more of a it was more of a not just like abby might have trouble focusing
00:22:40.500 on certain things here and there it was more like there's like legitimate professionals coming in
00:22:45.360 to like help out you know so it was like non-stop it was a little different you know what i mean so
00:22:48.780 it was definitely it was like something something was definitely there you know i mean it was hard
00:22:53.340 for me to understand when i was yeah he was a little kid but therapy rooms and like clipboards
00:22:57.000 and tantrums and meltdowns but he kind of did i ever have a tantrum i mean all kids i had tantrums
00:23:02.800 but you know yeah i remember one time you said i don't want to go to disneyland disneyland's for
00:23:07.420 babies you said that once yeah i did i was like nine years old i think so why did you say
00:23:15.340 Disneyland's for babies I don't know I don't know I was going through it who's crashing I don't know
00:23:20.380 yeah what was what was that like for you guys uh mom brother you know being around in school did
00:23:27.860 you did you deal with bullying at all did you have to protect her at times and and and what was that
00:23:32.240 Christine what was the adjustment process like for you as well when yeah yeah I mean I'll start
00:23:36.600 with me and then you have to tell somebody because his perspective is so different than mine but I
00:23:40.040 remember in first grade Abby was mainstream into a regular school this is the thing in autism do
00:23:43.800 You send them to a special school, they're in special ed, or they mainstreamed.
00:23:47.220 If they have great language and they're interacting enough and they're really able to comprehend,
00:23:52.320 sure, try mainstreaming.
00:23:53.400 It didn't work for us.
00:23:54.760 Abby was just not able to, like, grasp it.
00:23:56.880 So in that in-between, I was trying to, like, schmooze.
00:24:00.160 So I was in the playground yard with the other kids, her age, six-year-olds, and I'm all
00:24:05.640 like, hey, yeah, I get candy.
00:24:07.720 And I'm, like, trying to, like, schmooze the other kids so that they would like her.
00:24:11.960 Like, I'm the cool mom.
00:24:12.980 and one day i'm like schmoozing the six-year-olds and i realized what am i doing here like bribing
00:24:19.540 children to like uncle like we're the cool team and stuff and i was like that's crazy
00:24:24.180 and then she went on into autism education so the rest and then i was it was the same curriculum
00:24:30.640 but they taught it slower but i realized that the curriculum was no longer applied to me so
00:24:34.380 in high school i got switched to job training interesting interesting that's true they prep
00:24:40.680 that prep you for yeah less less academics because it wasn't making sense with the kind of brains
00:24:45.940 they have but his perspective on uh the bullying thing is is different because he was there at
00:24:53.140 school and people knew who abby was older brother younger younger younger brother by a year and a
00:24:57.480 half okay so you guys are pretty close yeah yeah yeah what was it like it was it was so we were at
00:25:03.880 the same school until i was in maybe third grade so like not not super late but there was we both
00:25:09.640 left Dixie Canyon yeah that's exactly right neither one of us stayed till fifth grade
00:25:14.080 neither one we left a little early but um it was definitely I would say there was less direct
00:25:19.400 it wasn't like direct bullying towards her but there was definitely like people would make
00:25:23.740 comments within my friend groups that I would feel the need to step up a little bit you know
00:25:28.780 and then I would see maybe people there you know the special ed class people would be like
00:25:32.280 pointing fingers and stuff I mean there's a kids right but like we're all kids and they're pointing
00:25:35.760 fingers and doing that thing and I was usually the one that was hey let's not you know let's
00:25:39.620 not do that we don't really know what's going on like that's not cool right and then kind of later
00:25:43.320 on it was definitely the biggest thing for me was just like in public there was a lot of staring and
00:25:47.500 a lot of stuff because like abby like a lot of people has physical stims you know you stretch
00:25:51.680 your hands out to to feel more centered you know abs when you get excited and you yes and then
00:25:55.600 after after my bridgeport high school years i got switched to a training school miller and learned
00:26:00.600 how to make hats there i wanted to ask about your hats that's true did you have did you do you have
00:26:05.460 any hats yes maybe i was hoping i was hoping i could i could get one of these hats i'll and i'll
00:26:12.140 and i'll pay for it by the way i want to support the business support local business who's that
00:26:15.940 for no way this is for you who's this for no way and this is mike yes hold on that's for mike oh my
00:26:25.440 gosh oh i'm so happy this is for your daughter and your wife and your wife your wife and your
00:26:33.300 daughter. Abby, that's so sweet.
00:26:35.420 These gray ones I made.
00:26:37.280 Oh my gosh.
00:26:39.040 My fiance loves you as well.
00:26:40.980 So she's going to go.
00:26:42.760 She's going to just be so happy.
00:26:45.180 Oh my gosh.
00:26:46.520 This is so cool.
00:26:50.380 Let's go.
00:26:52.100 Love it.
00:26:53.440 Dear Logan, thank you for having me on your podcast.
00:26:56.180 It does.
00:26:56.840 Thank you so much for this.
00:26:58.200 You can bring the tags up.
00:27:00.540 Bring it down a little bit.
00:27:01.900 this one yes let's go thank you so much thank you so much for that that was so nice of you
00:27:13.100 how are you how are you producing enough hats i'm sure the business is booming
00:27:17.740 it's a lot of weaving yeah it's good though it's good it keeps you busy i'm sure
00:27:22.860 i do like working with your hands like that yes tell them about how many hours you do
00:27:28.300 About the hat stuff.
00:27:30.000 I knit hats for like hours.
00:27:32.020 It's like I even forgot my knitting bag this morning.
00:27:36.300 So my brother brought it.
00:27:37.840 And also one time Ben's puppy, Navi,
00:27:41.240 which was a mini Australian shepherd.
00:27:43.460 The other night she tried to run away with my yarn.
00:27:46.360 It doesn't surprise me.
00:27:48.040 Don't get a cat.
00:27:49.880 She started running around.
00:27:52.160 Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:27:53.260 If you get a cat, that yarn's gone.
00:27:55.540 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:27:56.420 And one time, Navi, last time, took my yard.
00:27:59.360 I saw she was carrying it in her mouth, walking with it.
00:28:02.420 This is amazing.
00:28:04.420 This is great.
00:28:05.380 Why did she take my yard?
00:28:06.760 She's a puppy.
00:28:08.020 And it was out.
00:28:08.920 When she was telling you guys about getting out of the academics,
00:28:11.820 here's the thing about autism.
00:28:13.040 So when you have the kind of autism Abby has, you're diagnosed at two.
00:28:15.940 You get kicked out of preschool.
00:28:17.520 It was a really difficult time.
00:28:19.400 That first zero to ten was really, really hard.
00:28:22.220 So my whole life changed, got on the bandwagon of trying to figure out
00:28:25.620 what this stuff is.
00:28:26.420 the figuring out what your kid needs the hardest part it's almost worse than the condition itself
00:28:30.600 is figuring out what am i supposed to do because you feel so helpless also i used to get very 0.82
00:28:35.500 jealous of neurotypical girls especially really can you talk to me about that because they could
00:28:40.040 do things that i couldn't like when a neurotypical girl would fall asleep i would fall asleep when a 0.98
00:28:44.020 neurotypical girl would sneeze i would sneeze because i was trying to be like them even though
00:28:48.500 unfortunately it made them uncomfortable that's really but i didn't do it to be mean i didn't do
00:28:53.660 it to mock them or make fun of them i was just trying to express my feelings i appreciate your
00:28:59.080 honesty and you say like you remember that movie inside out of course inside out i saw the second
00:29:03.840 one riley says she's a good person then she says she's not good enough i imagine sometimes you
00:29:10.000 watch things like that show you were describing this is us yeah and and and you watch it and you
00:29:15.180 see like oh my gosh i i feel like that or that's how i think and you make that connection did it
00:29:21.860 happen with inside out yeah big time yeah always talks about that it and speaking of like a visual
00:29:27.440 me and my cousin mary went to the inside out house in vegas last year that's awesome oh wow do you
00:29:32.020 like animated films yeah can you give me a list of some of your favorite animated films little
00:29:36.760 mermaid lion king um frozen frozen finding nemo there's a finding nemo ride at disneyland finding
00:29:44.120 nemo submarine voyage it's been out for 18 years how to train your dragon well that's dream that's
00:29:50.120 dreamworks you don't like you don't like but you know what i don't like gory movies okay that's
00:29:55.120 fair horror movies um have you seen enchanted that's animated and live action it's both i don't
00:30:01.200 think i have are you a huge fan of amy adams i wouldn't say a huge fan but i i really like her
00:30:06.500 the redhead yeah i do i really like her yeah she was also in the movie a sci-fi movie called the
00:30:10.700 arrival i love the arrival she's very good in that movie yeah do you like do you like alien stuff
00:30:15.680 UFO stuff.
00:30:17.300 It's okay, but I like Star Wars because Star Wars Day is coming up.
00:30:21.040 Star Wars Day?
00:30:22.340 May 5th.
00:30:23.460 May the 4th be with you.
00:30:24.800 May the 4th.
00:30:25.120 I love saying that.
00:30:26.460 Do you have a lightsaber?
00:30:27.540 I want to get a pink lightsaber.
00:30:29.460 Okay.
00:30:29.820 If I had one, I'd choose the pink lightsaber.
00:30:31.960 Okay, cool.
00:30:33.100 What about David?
00:30:33.800 Does he like it as well?
00:30:34.680 A red lightsaber.
00:30:35.560 You guys could battle.
00:30:37.560 Well, I'll do it with his sister, Aubrey, because Aubrey is into video games.
00:30:41.120 It's one of David's triplet sisters, and his other sister, Allison, goes to school
00:30:44.780 for aba applied behavior analysis oh wow that's that's a whole controversy now because that's a
00:30:50.720 therapy that's used for i say certain types of autism but because we have one word uh part of
00:30:56.740 the population thinks it's bad and torturous and not cool and then the other parts like we're dying
00:31:02.760 over here we need help for our kids for us it worked i don't bash any therapy because everyone's
00:31:07.820 different like try whatever works for you but on my social media people have come after me because
00:31:12.940 we did do it it was amazing it helped her a ton i was there i watched it uh she learned how to sit
00:31:19.260 in a chair and use a pencil when she was four and she couldn't do that before that so it was like a
00:31:23.000 kind of a miracle almost and other people that we know david included sabode from season one he also
00:31:29.080 had that therapy and it was really really great do you but it's controversial for others it's it's
00:31:34.380 it's a shame when there's riffs internally within within a group that should be together i feel like
00:31:40.020 i've seen this happen a couple times it always it just doesn't make sense to me it is my mission
00:31:44.340 to try to get everyone to work together because think about people in your school setting that
00:31:49.800 were either misunderstood mocked sat alone they had neurological differences nobody's weird
00:31:55.480 situations are weird not people people have neurological differences and then others have
00:32:01.220 neurological deficits if you can't talk and participate in the world that's kind of a short
00:32:05.900 stick but those strangely those disagreements happen even in communities that don't have such
00:32:11.980 vast differences you've heard the chaos now you can see it my gosh watch all your favorite podcasts
00:32:19.660 from start to finish right inside the free i heard radio app gets the blood going up catch every laugh

00:33:09.240 like the cool Uber driver we just had.
00:33:11.560 Or the food we just ate that was surprisingly delicious.

00:33:32.560 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Pods, or wherever you get your podcasts.
00:34:02.560 i don't even know there's this thing as d no no no i mean like i can't even get on the c list like
00:34:07.900 i'm not even average i'm not even passing i'm failing listen to no safe words with october
00:34:12.100 and tony gonzalez part of my culture podcast network available on the iheart radio app
00:34:17.560 apple podcast or wherever you get your podcast or spectrums you've got something like alcoholism
00:34:26.280 and the approach to getting people off of drugs or alcohol you've got something like uh the
00:34:31.000 approach to curing brain cancer these are more one size fits all problems but still have the
00:34:36.980 same level of disagreement as a community as complex as the spectrum of community so it's
00:34:41.740 like you can't even people to get get you can't even get people to agree on chemotherapy not
00:34:46.180 chemotherapy this or that what is chemotherapy well it's a good question abby it's a uh it's a
00:34:51.900 approach to uh ridding the body of cancer when when someone has cancer so it's a radiation therapy
00:34:58.200 that has a lot of side effects that some people think are actually potentially worse than the
00:35:02.720 cancer itself. And so there's a lot of disagreement there. It's been a kind of a
00:35:06.140 gold standard treatment for a long time now for cancer, but especially in the world we live in
00:35:10.940 now with social media and everybody's saying this is wrong and this is woke and this is right and
00:35:15.840 this is left. It's just such a wild time to agree on anything that I can totally see how it could
00:35:21.580 get so complex in this community. And I want to ask you this too, where does Abby fit on
00:35:28.100 the spectrum well when we were when she was diagnosed abby how old were you two and a half
00:35:34.000 so it was like right out of the gate you know from day one abby how much did you weigh at birth
00:35:38.240 11 14 inches oh big baby no 11 pounds 11 pounds 13 ounces like from the minute she was born it
00:35:45.480 was like this big big baby that's a big baby why was i such a big baby i don't know from the minute
00:35:54.780 she was born it's been an alternative ride you know all the other babies were smaller than me
00:35:59.540 yeah yeah and so one time there was a tiny baby on a plane and it was a tiny little infant i was
00:36:04.560 i was much bigger than that right yes i was a lot bigger but what about the baby on the plane
00:36:09.340 um i knew it was gonna make a noise but it didn't make one it didn't cry the whole time
00:36:14.400 no well i but lucky but you know what i was a lot bigger than that baby yeah yeah way bigger
00:36:19.860 yeah yeah baby baby's not crying on on planes is rare one time there was one time i was in
00:36:25.940 indianapolis there were two screaming babies in front of me we were leaving indianapolis and the
00:36:30.000 baby's like this water water i need water something like that baby was thirsty should
00:36:35.020 have gave him prime but and they wouldn't give it to her yeah yeah should have had prime i had a
00:36:41.080 question it's an auditory sound um do you like watching yourself on tv um i didn't really care
00:36:49.500 about watching myself on tv but i did get really excited and eager well it's really cool abby like
00:36:56.160 you're now famous is that a weird feeling for you no i used to feel isolated and alone as a kid and
00:37:03.020 that's why i said i want to be an adult right now i can relate to that because i that's why i
00:37:08.380 associate adults as good and kids as bad but it's just life was more complicated growing up i can
00:37:15.740 But at least I still had a good time.
00:37:18.180 I just take fun family trips to Boston.
00:37:21.880 Well, kids can be pretty ruthless because they don't have like that much empathy.
00:37:26.820 They're just it's a lot of like instinctual and they just say what they're thinking and they're not going to consider someone's feelings.
00:37:33.760 So some kids are good.
00:37:35.080 Like I have a daughter.
00:37:35.880 She's very nice.
00:37:37.100 She's very nice.
00:37:37.960 How old is she?
00:37:38.640 She's seven months old.
00:37:39.500 So she still is not really fully.
00:37:42.140 She's a baby.
00:37:43.160 Yeah.
00:37:43.560 Big baby, by the way.
00:37:44.540 She's tall.
00:37:45.080 oh is she yeah she's pretty tall your your fiance is tall yeah she's tall she's she's like five
00:37:49.940 ten you're like six two yeah yeah yeah yeah i think i think she'll probably be tall yeah but
00:37:55.420 this fame is a really interesting david
00:37:59.620 okay okay okay okay hey david
00:38:09.640 hey petra hey mary hey guys how are you hey um so so it sounds like you you you like being famous
00:38:20.940 because you don't feel as isolated or am i just saying that um sorry i'll just you want him to
00:38:27.720 rephrase the question yeah i'll rephrase it do you like being famous i do because i want to make more
00:38:33.380 money that's why mary's here for my social media yeah get the bag abby her cousin brendan
00:38:40.220 didn't doesn't like being an adult he he loved being a kid mary's cousin brendan well probably
00:38:45.440 because mary i brendan has a job now brendan has it's hard for him as an adult but not for me
00:38:51.500 because everyone is different yes yeah well and you're famous now is you can get the bag
00:38:57.040 Abby, what do you want to buy with all this newfound money?
00:39:02.320 Probably I want to build my own water park in my pool.
00:39:06.720 I was thinking if I win the lottery,
00:39:09.120 I was thinking about getting rid of my diving board
00:39:11.520 and changing it into a water slide.
00:39:13.520 Amazing.
00:39:14.400 Could you build?
00:39:15.760 This is very important, Abby.
00:39:17.280 I need you to-
00:39:17.740 I'll change it to a water slide.
00:39:19.800 Okay, amazing.
00:39:20.960 I'm obsessed with water parks.
00:39:23.020 Me too!
00:39:23.220 They're my favorite thing.
00:39:24.560 So am I!
00:39:25.800 Do you know what my favorite thing?
00:39:27.040 out of the water park is what the lazy river you know what mine is mine is the dropout slide where
00:39:33.980 this you stand on this door you stand in it and then it opens up and then it goes when ben did
00:39:39.460 it how did you feel i was i was terrified it's horrifying it's way skater than i ever thought it
00:39:44.940 was did you scream yes where did you do it we were in uh we were in atlantis right was that the first
00:39:50.700 okay okay yeah they have one in new york at the american dream mall that's very high that you
00:39:56.620 Dream Thrilling Asgard and Jungle Jammer at DreamWorks Water Park.
00:40:00.620 Wow. Okay. That's amazing that you knew both.
00:40:04.620 I would scream on it. You're pretty brave. Mary did it
00:40:08.620 with me. I think she did it once. That's pretty brave
00:40:12.620 of you, Abby. If you haven't seen, you're talking about the
00:40:16.620 DreamWorks Water Park, right? Of course. So if you go in and actually look at it, I mean,
00:40:20.620 it looks like you're jumping off. It's the scariest thing ever. And you know who I pretend to be
00:40:24.620 up there on the top of that rapunzel yes and do you feel any fear no not really would you my
00:40:31.700 brother would i mean so would it it was a little scary at first but i wasn't as scared as ben
00:40:36.880 i know every day catching straight on the thrilling gas car at dreamworks
00:40:44.060 probably my brother that's bigger yeah 100 abby you you clearly you'd be like fear from inside
00:40:50.380 you're very brave taking shots would you do you like fear do you like him oh yeah yeah yeah i
00:40:59.880 i i turn i i try to turn fear off a lot of times don't even think about him yeah yeah just just
00:41:06.780 just literally just turn it off like a light switch almost what about the big red guy anger
00:41:10.660 anger yeah have a little bit of that in me yeah i'd feel a little bit of him when i get hurt i'd
00:41:16.260 feel a little bit like anger from inside out when was the last time you felt angry i'm not sure if
00:41:22.040 i don't win a game and candy crush like i can get all my emotions and inside out like sadness
00:41:28.160 anger think about the inside out emotions yep yep yep or if i'm seeing a horror movie or if i feel
00:41:34.240 nauseous i'm like disgust she's green what about what about the second one anxiety showed up
00:41:39.860 like when the bus would run late i'd feel like anxiety yeah yeah christine do you notice that
00:41:45.880 she has a good grasp firm grasp on emotionality now she does but but in the earlier years it would
00:41:52.940 overtake you so you couldn't participate in the world because i think emotional regulation is part
00:41:58.040 of autism for some people and that can stop you from your day like abby had a thing about time
00:42:03.420 for example when she was a when she was a kid that if it wasn't that exact moment if things
00:42:07.380 weren't like the bell rang at three and if i wasn't there she would fall to pieces it just
00:42:11.320 was some kind of a hook and structure so and i'd also do um something called the dolly dance
00:42:17.460 tell me no one understood and i still don't it's a weird gesture and it's where i would clap my
00:42:22.880 hands and stick up my tongue but i shouldn't do it well now you've set it up so i'm just explaining
00:42:28.560 okay do you want is it like this it's like this
00:42:31.480 oh classic come on logan tell me how tell me how good i like this and then like this ready
00:42:38.680 nice nice nice you do it
00:42:43.720 and also this is a funny face of my friend made all right
00:42:51.820 okay so let's let's just talk about so the dolly dance was a time when she was frustrated and
00:42:59.920 couldn't get the words out so sometimes a physical action might have helped her
00:43:03.400 express what was going on for her do you mind if I use that in the WWE yeah you
00:43:12.680 will see me do that
00:43:19.000 remember some of the other things I remember some of the other things you
00:43:21.620 doing when she was young and she didn't like you she'd look at you from afar and
00:43:25.000 do this just go oh yeah that's like that's so disrespectful i love it do it do yeah you look
00:43:35.780 at the person directly and flick right in their face and you just kind of flick them now bet has
00:43:40.440 a good one though what does she do when she's mad at you what are some of your names that she calls
00:43:44.500 me yes okay there's a couple one of them i don't know i don't know where this came from one day
00:43:51.300 she was mad at me and you just called me you started calling me brent brent just like some
00:43:56.420 random we don't we don't know anyone named brent my name is not brent okay so did you like brent
00:44:04.380 i have no idea who brent is yes jorman knows miguel garcia that's right bob and mike's son
00:44:10.860 bob and mike's son knows some of them but we were talking about the nickname because brent and the
00:44:15.820 The other ultimate insight is you get the title of doctor.
00:44:19.720 Oh, yeah, that's a bad one.
00:44:20.320 So she'll say, okay, doctor mom.
00:44:23.060 That's the biggest insult.
00:44:24.500 How do you earn that?
00:44:25.700 Now, Abby, why did you call me doctor?
00:44:27.900 Because I don't like going to the doctors.
00:44:30.200 Doctors give you shots.
00:44:31.440 Shots cause pain.
00:44:32.400 I'm mad at you, so you're now a doctor. 0.52
00:44:34.260 You were dressed up as a doctor on rubber necks.
00:44:37.380 That's a whole other thing.
00:44:38.960 You dressed up as one.
00:44:40.180 So did you pick up on and start to observe some of these
00:44:43.980 and maybe you guys were able to associate these things that she did
00:44:49.260 with what she was feeling at the time.
00:44:50.760 Yes, so I call myself a translator.
00:44:53.000 When I do conferences, I do a lot of speaking to try to help parents.
00:44:56.300 I love doing it.
00:44:57.540 I feel like I spent the last 26 years learning this stuff
00:45:00.480 in the front lines every single day.
00:45:03.140 So, you know, sometimes I talk about clinical data
00:45:05.320 and what works and studies and all this.
00:45:07.320 I'm like, I'm doing this every day and I'm telling you what's working.
00:45:10.260 It's like I'm a translator.
00:45:11.540 I could see the disconnect.
00:45:12.660 i could see when she was frustrated the language wouldn't come a gesture would come and then i'd
00:45:16.780 try to model the language and say i'm angry do you right now do you recognize how and realize
00:45:21.920 how important of a skill that is and how applicable that is to to neurotypical people
00:45:28.220 we all we all do that we don't do dupe yeah and we don't stick our tongue maybe not right
00:45:33.620 but a lot of times and what people did back to me they made me laugh okay so that's good
00:45:39.340 one of my aids did it but but but a lot of times we do things that are representative of an emotion
00:45:45.900 that we're feeling but not always exactly yeah not always an exact you know uh way of showing
00:45:51.540 that so hurt people sometimes do things that are just showing that they're hurt not that they're
00:45:56.760 angry or don't like you and it's funny in our in our neurotypical relationships we end up in a lot
00:46:02.060 of those same type of scenarios where we're doing things that are poorly representative of how we
00:46:05.820 truly feel so that's such a that's such an incredible skill to have and i i wonder what
00:46:10.420 what ways you could teach you know neurotypical people how to you know in my social media channels
00:46:15.580 she's having a good time well let's have a good time sorry but the one thing i got this laughing
00:46:22.240 thing from a boy i went to high school with would laugh in class you can't say names of people sorry
00:46:27.020 okay except brandon first name but only my friend abraham from high school would laugh during class
00:46:34.220 for no reason and i was there i do that sometimes i was a big abby i was a big problem in school
00:46:40.800 big time were you oh yeah yeah i was a i was in trouble oh yeah i was an outlasher i was in
00:46:46.600 suspension but it was funny because i was also in the gifted program so they didn't really know
00:46:50.640 what to do with me yeah yeah yeah it was a i was a high iq maybe low eq or low you know i had a lot
00:46:57.780 of stuff going on at home anyways abby can i ask you a direct question with with all of these uh
00:47:03.920 thoughts pulling at you to live in the past and to live in these memories i don't want to live in
00:47:08.100 those memories okay how do you how do you stay here with us talk about in the moment all right
00:47:14.860 oh how do you do that what did we learn this year five senses go um i'm in a brain and memory
00:47:20.940 therapy and my ryan's teaching me how to turn my smart brain on and take keep energy away from the
00:47:26.800 emotional and survival brains by what you're seeing what i like to see the sunset and i like
00:47:33.200 to hear the old dial-up modem sound remember the dial-up modem wow that's a do you remember
00:47:42.580 the one computers used to do that yeah yeah of course aol instant messenger yeah exactly a lot
00:47:48.080 of stewart has that so how do you so how do you stay here with us right now like what are your
00:47:52.720 tactics to to stay in this room in this moment with us um i focus on what i feel what i smell
00:48:00.480 and what I taste. Those are all the senses. So by turning the five senses on and identifying them,
00:48:05.500 it helps bring the smart brain on and the other brain of emotional survival, which is out of this
00:48:11.000 room, gets less energy so that the smart brain and the focus can turn on by using the five senses,
00:48:16.780 sight, smell, touch, taste, and sound. The dial-up modem is a preferred sound. So tell us about that.
00:48:21.980 Why do you love it? Because when I was a little girl, when I first heard the dial-up modem, I was
00:48:25.420 like three years old maybe almost three years old when i was two and a half almost three and it just
00:48:34.120 stuck with you i a little telephone pole came up on the computer had our planet next to it
00:48:39.640 and then the dial-up modem sound started playing and that's a preferred sound so i think it's
00:48:45.080 bringing her back to a happy time or a good feeling or a good vibe i think it's a good
00:48:49.260 thing because i was barely on earth when they had it i was really i was a really little girl when i
00:48:55.520 when i used to hear it on the computer do you like that association christine for for this
00:48:59.880 practice of staying in the moment or is that something that gets in the way i think for her
00:49:03.900 whatever it takes for her to do her thing is great the fact that we were able to identify
00:49:09.440 that a preferred sound so if abby's like having a really hard time regulating now what we say is i
00:49:14.840 said think you need a sound input she'll go listen to the dial-up modem sound for five minutes in a
00:49:19.540 room calm down regulate come back out new person and and that will help center her yes got it and
00:49:25.260 i want every single parent autistic person non-autistic person and i even heard it in the
00:49:29.840 movie light year with buzz light here but if everybody knew their trigger i i heard some of
00:49:36.700 the dial-up modem sound in that yeah feels good right to hear that yeah in some sci-fi movies i
00:49:42.440 might hear a sound that sounds like the dial-up modem is there any other sounds that you like
00:49:46.440 like that um i also like um a lot of sounds like this do you know this app called free sound
00:49:54.500 no it's where with all different sound effects like music playing animal noises it has it's
00:50:00.260 not just dial-up other noises too like phones ringing got it the music on candy crush yeah
00:50:06.680 Candy Crush music.
00:50:09.120 Do you like playing Candy Crush?
00:50:10.740 I'm on a very high level.
00:50:11.680 9,566.
00:50:13.540 Wow.
00:50:14.540 Wow, that's incredible.
00:50:15.860 That's incredible.
00:50:16.680 Is Candy Crush a game you can make in-app purchases?
00:50:20.760 You have to crush the candy.
00:50:22.420 You have to get rid of all the dragons,
00:50:24.080 the jelly squares, or the licorice.
00:50:26.920 Do you spend money?
00:50:27.600 Every level is different.
00:50:28.580 Okay, I can have a story about that.
00:50:29.320 Yeah, you have a story about this.
00:50:30.660 David got me a Candy Crush gift card.
00:50:32.820 Let's go, David.
00:50:33.520 Yeah.
00:50:33.680 one time she spent seven hundred dollars on candy crush on the apps i had to call the app store and
00:50:39.140 say i don't know what's going on here figure it out she was just hitting the button that said buy
00:50:42.680 more buy more i do the same thing on a website called steak you know what that's why i want to
00:50:46.520 be a billionaire but i don't make as much money as chapel round does oh you'd be surprised i don't
00:50:53.020 well if she's in a parasitic record label deal there's a chance maybe you are wealthier and
00:51:00.140 have a higher net worth than Chapel Rose.
00:51:01.400 She does.
00:51:01.800 She's doing pretty big shows.
00:51:02.620 And do you see this bracelet?
00:51:04.540 Yeah, yeah.
00:51:05.020 I got this from Taylor Lautner in his way.
00:51:06.620 Oh, wow.
00:51:07.500 He gave it to you?
00:51:08.520 Yeah.
00:51:08.920 I was on his podcast to squeeze with lemons.
00:51:11.400 Whoa.
00:51:12.620 Wow.
00:51:13.500 He mentions a Sharkboy and Lava Girl.
00:51:15.400 Yes, he was.
00:51:16.080 And I was on his podcast.
00:51:18.100 Throwback.
00:51:18.740 I was on his podcast.
00:51:20.560 He's pretty cool.
00:51:20.980 That movie is turning a big 2-0.
00:51:22.780 20.
00:51:23.760 Yeah.
00:51:24.060 Big 2-0.
00:51:25.060 Same goes for Sathara.
00:51:27.080 Yeah.
00:51:27.820 Yeah.
00:51:28.240 Wow.
00:51:28.420 So many throwbacks today.
00:51:30.140 You should have played Sharkboy and Lava Girl music
00:51:33.820 at your 2000s themed party.
00:51:36.520 Should we, Christine, should we bring David on?
00:51:38.520 I think so.
00:51:38.960 Okay, because they're starting to talk.
00:51:40.400 Hey, David.
00:51:41.240 How are you, brother?
00:51:42.240 Good, and you?
00:51:42.820 Good.
00:51:43.200 What's up, David?
00:51:43.860 Good to meet you.
00:51:44.580 Good to meet you, too.
00:51:45.560 David, it's such an honor for me to meet you.
00:51:47.440 I'm a very big fan of you.
00:51:48.760 Thank you.
00:51:49.540 Yeah, I watched the show.
00:51:50.960 And you and Abby, you guys are great.
00:51:53.100 Thanks.
00:51:53.580 Thanks for coming today.
00:51:54.740 You're welcome.
00:51:55.860 Abby and Ari are still together.
00:51:57.380 Yes!
00:51:58.200 I know.
00:51:59.160 Guys, it's amazing.
00:52:00.120 From season one?
00:52:01.260 Yes.
00:52:01.900 We are.
00:52:02.740 All the way from the zoo, right?
00:52:04.180 Was the first date at the zoo, right?
00:52:05.600 The first date's at the Wildlife Learning Center.
00:52:07.800 The Wildlife Learning Center.
00:52:09.380 And then you went to the safari.
00:52:11.480 Guys, it's like you're an inspiration worldwide for what love and a happy couple should look like.
00:52:16.080 Yes.
00:52:16.500 And if I win the lottery, I could create my own wildlife park.
00:52:19.840 The biggest one.
00:52:21.000 And a water park.
00:52:22.040 A water park for me and a safari for him.
00:52:25.620 They should be next door to each other.
00:52:27.360 so you could just go to the water park
00:52:29.080 and then go to the wildlife center.
00:52:30.860 There's places like that.
00:52:31.900 Six Flags has its own water park and wildlife,
00:52:34.040 but you guys could do it better, I'm sure.
00:52:36.480 I think a lot of people would go there.
00:52:38.480 That could be how you make more money than Chapel Rowan.
00:52:41.020 Yeah.
00:52:41.700 Does Chapel Rowan have more money than me now?
00:52:44.560 Again, if she's in a parasitic record label deal,
00:52:46.780 it's totally possible that your number isn't behind her.
00:52:49.260 What about Sabrina Carpenter?
00:52:50.580 Does she have more money?
00:52:51.700 She, look, that Mia Espresso.
00:52:54.020 She has a lot more money.
00:52:55.100 Yeah.
00:52:55.440 Yeah, she's working late.
00:52:57.960 Did she win any Grammy Awards?
00:53:00.160 You know, I don't know.
00:53:02.740 I know Miley Cyrus won her first Grammy last year.
00:53:05.460 Well, that's Miley Cyrus.
00:53:06.740 Well, it deserves.
00:53:07.620 Is there anyone in here who looks like Miley?
00:53:10.040 Probably your mom.
00:53:11.080 What about me?
00:53:12.440 Oh, yeah, you, of course.
00:53:14.020 Yeah, yeah, yeah, of course.
00:53:14.900 You look just like her.
00:53:17.040 And the chin, I have the same chin as Demi Lovato.
00:53:20.280 Whoa.
00:53:21.280 Demi Lovato.
00:53:22.160 So you're talking about the Disney Channel stars.
00:53:24.600 Yep.
00:53:25.100 And where does she appear as a little girl?
00:53:27.160 Barney and Friends.
00:53:28.540 Actually?
00:53:29.180 I watch that show every time I watch The Puzzle Place,
00:53:31.400 and they deserve to go to Walt Disney World for the entire summer.
00:53:34.160 And who does Leon look like?
00:53:35.480 What animal?
00:53:36.120 A lion.
00:53:37.800 Roar.
00:53:38.600 Does he have a mane?
00:53:39.440 His hair is practically a mane.
00:53:41.540 Yes.
00:53:42.960 Do you guys love talking to each other?
00:53:44.600 Yes.
00:53:45.340 All right, I have to say something.
00:53:47.060 You guys, I was blown away when you guys played the Disney game.
00:53:50.180 Okay, Abby, you say a location.
00:53:51.740 This thing they do, I've seen it.
00:53:53.000 You say a location and then David, what do you, you, you respond?
00:53:56.260 Yeah.
00:53:56.720 Cheesecake factory.
00:53:57.920 Beauty and the Beast.
00:53:59.880 Roar and snore.
00:54:00.880 The Lion King.
00:54:02.120 Dana Point Beach.
00:54:03.320 The Little Mermaid.
00:54:04.380 Irvine Spectrum Center.
00:54:05.860 Aladdin.
00:54:06.680 Will Roger State Park.
00:54:08.060 Pocahontas.
00:54:11.820 Balboa Park.
00:54:13.700 The Princess and the Frog.
00:54:15.200 Supercuts.
00:54:16.240 Tangled.
00:54:17.180 Island's Restaurant.
00:54:18.320 Lilo and Stitch.
00:54:20.840 That's quite the back.
00:54:21.540 That was amazing.
00:54:22.140 What about having a picnic?
00:54:26.420 You stumped him.
00:54:27.780 Is it Winnie the Pooh?
00:54:29.300 Could be.
00:54:30.300 Well, is Winnie the Pooh on the list of your favorites?
00:54:32.080 It may not be on the list of my favorites, but I like it.
00:54:33.980 You know, our friend Devin was obsessed with Winnie the Pooh.
00:54:37.580 Does this work for other stuff, or is it just Disney?
00:54:40.180 Like, can I ask you a state capital?
00:54:41.840 Like, where does this end?
00:54:44.300 Like, what do you...
00:54:45.300 All the Winnie the Pooh characters all got diagnosed with something.
00:54:49.300 You're correct.
00:54:50.200 Eeyore has depression, I saw.
00:54:51.520 Tigger has ADHD, just like my brother.
00:54:54.740 Do Brent just get...
00:54:55.920 Robin has OCD.
00:54:57.760 Robin wants to keep his guard in a certain way.
00:55:00.100 Dang.
00:55:00.800 David, I have a question for you.
00:55:01.940 Yes?
00:55:02.940 Do you like being famous?
00:55:04.520 Oh, yes.
00:55:05.860 Why?
00:55:07.100 Because it makes you feel special.
00:55:09.040 You are special.
00:55:10.360 You are.
00:55:11.240 Do you like making money as much as Abby does?
00:55:13.620 Yes.
00:55:14.720 Can I ask how Love on the Spectrum came to be?
00:55:18.120 did you did you did they get cast for the show so at that time it hadn't aired yet and it was
00:55:23.780 during the pandemic so in 2019 they were sort of looking for people and we got a call one day of
00:55:29.000 some guy doing some sort of dating show we didn't really know what it was he's from australia so we
00:55:34.320 zoomed with them they met her in one of her classes she was keen so keen was looking for
00:55:39.680 people and he's really good about really going everywhere he goes to all the states and programs
00:55:44.800 and went to hers but at that time it was completely unknown and so i got they said this guy's going to
00:55:50.920 come and watch their class he's doing some kind of a dating documentary and everyone was kind of
00:55:55.960 talking to him at the end of the session and abby just like bolted out the door because of that time
00:55:59.520 thing class is over three o'clock gotta go boom they got our contact information we wound up
00:56:04.480 zooming with them like three or four times and uh and then at the end of this these zoom calls
00:56:10.140 which took place over about a six month period they're like we're doing this little show and
00:56:13.880 It's on a network called Netflix.
00:56:15.760 And I was like, oh, I thought you were like a guy down by the river in a van that was just like shooting on your iPhone.
00:56:21.480 I mean, I didn't know what it was.
00:56:23.160 We had no idea what it was.
00:56:25.260 And then it turned into what we saw.
00:56:27.360 We watched the Australian version.
00:56:29.860 Those people had Australian accents, but they were on the spectrum.
00:56:33.180 I've never been to Australia before.
00:56:35.000 Neither have I.
00:56:35.900 I would love to give it a try.
00:56:37.040 You have to go there.
00:56:38.080 Me too.
00:56:38.380 I want to go.
00:56:39.500 My favorite thing to do is the zoo.
00:56:41.060 And I want to hang out with the Irwin family while I'm there.
00:56:43.360 Guys, I want to talk to Cleo, Ricky, and Emma from H2O.
00:56:46.560 Wow.
00:56:47.440 I've got to see them.
00:56:48.520 You guys got to go to Australia. 1.00
00:56:49.980 You know, the Wiggles are from Australia. 1.00
00:56:52.000 I didn't know that.
00:56:52.920 Oh, yes.
00:56:53.760 Every season of that is season one.
00:56:56.320 Well, they have the same accent as Keon.
00:56:58.980 And I met the Wiggles the whole cast one time in person.
00:57:01.600 I was on an airplane, and they were sitting right behind me,
00:57:03.880 and Abby was like four.
00:57:05.240 Were they wearing their sweaters?
00:57:06.320 They weren't wearing their sweaters, but the whole cast was,
00:57:08.500 and I was freaking out, and I was doing this job,
00:57:10.960 The guy next to me had just had a child
00:57:13.560 But the child wasn't old enough 0.85
00:57:15.820 To know who the wiggles were
00:57:16.760 And it was one of my biggest groupie 0.84
00:57:18.840 Star strep moments
00:57:20.060 Their hair's turning gray
00:57:22.920 What about kangaroos?
00:57:25.940 They're getting old
00:57:26.680 Would you like to meet a kangaroo?
00:57:28.720 Yes
00:57:29.100 What else about Australia? 1.00
00:57:31.740 Koalas 1.00
00:57:32.340 So you have all your reasons 0.99
00:57:35.220 Tasmanian devils
00:57:36.700 Just watch out for the spiders 0.62
00:57:38.100 Always
00:57:39.640 but it's much later there
00:57:42.060 yeah 18 hours in the future
00:57:44.060 yeah it's actually tomorrow
00:57:46.020 there yep it's tomorrow it is

00:57:51.200 heights so we're staying
00:57:53.460 on the ground
00:57:55.040 but you don't have a problem going down the water slide
00:57:57.660 it drops you
00:57:58.980 everybody's different yeah some of the water slides are fun
00:58:01.680 but others makes me feel
00:58:03.760 scared of heights
00:58:04.720 why don't you like standing on the trap door
00:58:07.200 heights
00:58:08.620 do you guys have favorite foods
00:58:12.180 speaking of which
00:58:13.720 I know you don't like flowers
00:58:16.240 but this is for you
00:58:18.240 thank you
00:58:20.300 there's a lyric about that
00:58:24.280 I love to try one
00:58:25.620 in your song
00:58:26.420 I'll try one of each
00:58:28.100 you said my prince charming doesn't bring me flowers
00:58:30.920 you know I'd rather have gummy bears any day
00:58:33.480 it's as real as it gets
00:58:36.320 yeah it is
00:58:37.340 abby gonna share abby do you know abby do you know what your love language is
00:58:43.440 do you know out of the love languages what your favorite part of being in love is
00:58:47.460 he treats me like a princess or
00:58:53.800 a woman with a relationship so would you say it's the is it the gifts acts of service words
00:59:01.840 of affirmation which thing do you like the most do you like when he says nice things to you or
00:59:05.760 gives you gifts or everybody's different i mean what do you like the best you like those gummy
00:59:13.800 bears you could also just eat the gummy bears and not i like gummy bears too yep david you're so
00:59:19.620 nice to abby is it because you love her that much yes would you have any other nicknames for her
00:59:26.180 besides sweet cakes i guess that's all the only nickname i have for her do you mind if i start
00:59:31.300 calling my fiance sweetcakes yes you do mind or actually go actually i don't mind at all okay
00:59:38.700 do you mind if he starts calling me sweetcakes very funny you are my sweetcakes mikey i love you

00:59:59.800 in like two seconds we met they came to our house we have like the love on the spectrum ragers we
01:00:04.540 have had a bunch of parties at our house with as many cast members when they're in town if it's
01:00:08.340 like a netflix thing or promo thing we've had these parties and my favorite memory is james
01:00:12.420 singing bad to the bone in my backyard is there any way i can come to the next one yes i'm serious
01:00:17.100 it's actually the most beautiful thing because you know everyone on the most of the people that
01:00:22.120 i know from the show and other people they don't have the same ego as as neurotypical people like
01:00:28.220 there's a sense of i like this and i want that but it is not ego based it's actually
01:00:32.500 beautiful humble and they don't really have a bigger judgment thing they have you have feelings
01:00:38.160 and i'm sound like i'm generalizing and i don't mean to but i'm just kind of saying the group of
01:00:41.940 people that i've been around it's just you're almost so free because you just don't have the 0.99
01:00:46.120 same judgment you're saying neurotypical people are pieces of shit well we are you know it's 0.97
01:00:52.360 completely fair assessment but it's actually a gift i mean i have this story but when i went to 0.99
01:00:56.200 the special needs dance one valentine's day where i dropped her off and i had to wait because i was
01:01:01.380 a parent she's like in eighth or ninth grade and i'm on valentine's night i'm at the special needs
01:01:05.540 dance there's a girl dancing and she's kind of doing all this stuff and for one or two seconds
01:01:10.320 i judged that girl when no one else in that room did and it was because they were all special needs
01:01:15.960 people and i was waiting for her and i was i learned after that like i was the only person
01:01:21.740 judging her and i thought how safe she was being able to just be her true self and i felt really
01:01:26.740 shitty after that true true sense of community and the cake and the pizza was so good if that
01:01:31.360 i would love to go to another dance like that again at my special school like if i keep working
01:01:36.780 out going to the gym i could eat a lot of pizza and cake david would you do it with me yes and
01:01:42.200 the only pizza yeah the only kind of pizza i like is cheese and i'll eat the vanilla cake and you
01:01:48.480 can eat the chocolate yeah no toppings david i'll take the vanilla you know toppings on my pizza
01:01:53.620 what where do you like to get your pizza from my favorite place some pizza place from there is
01:01:58.660 vetoes where's that yum where is it cinema cut la saniga downtown la wow three locations i love
01:02:07.820 regular regular crusty cheese pizza is my favorite from from which location vetoes vetoes where is
01:02:14.880 it apps. Remember? I don't remember. David's the one
01:02:16.960 on San Vicente?
01:02:18.540 San Vicente. I may have to go there. Do you like
01:02:20.780 Domino's? Yes. I love Costco
01:02:23.060 pizza. Costco pizza. I'm definitely
01:02:25.060 one time I had Costco pizza at my
01:02:26.920 friend Devin's party and then later
01:02:29.080 I by burning it off I had to take
01:02:31.020 my dog for a walk. Yeah. Yeah. I love that.
01:02:33.260 I got my exercise. Clementine
01:02:35.180 got her exercise so I could give her an
01:02:37.040 extra cup of food for her dog food. So win win.
01:02:39.180 Two birds one stone. Yeah. Yeah. And I had to
01:02:41.040 feed Clementine more dog food.
01:02:43.200 Do you like the Costco guys?
01:02:44.880 Do you know who they are?
01:02:47.120 No.
01:02:47.620 Five big booms for the Costco guys.
01:02:49.740 Boom.
01:02:50.560 Boom.
01:02:51.740 Boom.
01:02:52.680 Boom.

01:02:57.100 Of course, we got the chicken bake.
01:02:59.640 Yeah.
01:03:00.260 The chicken bake.

01:08:27.420 If all the beds are taken.
01:08:32.880 I've been growing plants for so long, I got a green thumb.
01:08:36.500 Then maybe you should take a break before that happens.
01:08:40.580 This is amazing.
01:08:42.320 Mom, the chicken's done.
01:08:44.480 Then she'll come down and check and see if you're right.

01:09:55.460 whale shark that's the world's biggest shark on earth gosh darn right you're gosh darn right
01:09:59.680 they're very friendly yeah and friendly sharks are friendly not not in australia by the way if
01:10:05.000 you go watch out for the sharks yeah the great white ones i think they are also located in africa
01:10:10.360 around Africa it's entirely possible that's where I went for a Christmas vacation of 2015
01:10:15.080 and the Halloween one for 2022 oh Mike I I feel like one day I feel like one day maybe you you
01:10:24.480 and I could have what they have the question is how I think I have the answer I actually wrote
01:10:32.260 you a little something and it was inspired by Abby's song to David kind of like similar melody
01:10:40.020 what's inside
01:10:43.980 he's talking
01:10:44.960 is there a reason
01:10:47.020 I feel impending doom and fear
01:10:50.260 right now
01:10:51.140 well I just
01:10:53.780 I thought your song to David was amazing
01:10:55.900 and the melody was amazing
01:10:57.140 so I wrote some lyrics
01:11:02.960 about my friend Mike
01:11:04.580 and I wouldn't mind doing a little performance here
01:11:07.260 if everyone's okay with it
01:11:09.080 Abby isn't that cool
01:11:10.660 he's made up his own version to sing to Mike
01:11:13.100 oh yeah
01:11:14.380 I don't know if it'll be as good as yours
01:11:17.740 Abby
01:11:18.100 these are so addicting
01:11:21.540 I like to sing you this song Mike
01:11:28.520 well then get to it
01:11:30.060 this song be good
01:11:35.220 I was kind of nervous to meet someone old
01:11:38.600 and I was really glad when you got off of parole.
01:11:43.260 Mike, I'm so proud you've come so far.
01:11:46.200 I know you can't get away from porn stars.
01:11:49.460 I know sometimes I'm rude to you,
01:11:52.100 but nothing we can't fix with a little blue chew.
01:11:57.220 We're so good together.
01:11:59.480 Will you be my co-host forever?
01:12:02.780 Will you be my co-host forever?
01:12:06.700 What do you say, Mike?
01:12:08.540 You want to do this show forever with me?
01:12:11.660 Yes.
01:12:12.640 Yes, I'll do it.
01:12:13.880 I'll do it.
01:12:14.440 That was wonderful.
01:12:16.180 The Lion King.
01:12:17.060 I didn't have the guitars.
01:12:17.960 I didn't have the guitars.
01:12:18.760 They kind of just do it together.
01:12:19.720 No, I'm testing you now to see if we have what they have. 1.00
01:12:21.480 I'm going to go back to Kenya again. 1.00
01:12:23.520 Me too, Abby.
01:12:24.400 It was a lot of fun, and I love to go on more safari.
01:12:27.800 It's always my favorite thing to do.
01:12:28.940 I'll try it with you.
01:12:29.600 You should.
01:12:30.060 I want to go back to Iceland again.
01:12:32.440 Iceland.
01:12:33.240 What kind of animals live in Iceland?
01:12:35.520 Yeah.
01:12:36.100 No, we got a huge fight in Iceland.
01:12:37.300 I ain't going back there.
01:12:38.860 Well, you're not complimenting me the same way that David compliments you.
01:12:41.660 I'll be honest with you.
01:12:42.420 We don't have chemistry, bro.
01:12:43.880 That song, I don't know what to tell you.
01:12:48.020 I've got to take one of each Lunchable to a room inside the beach house.
01:12:55.420 It's Lunchly.
01:12:56.460 It's Lunchly.
01:12:57.280 It's my brand with Mr. Beast.
01:12:59.620 Abby, look at it.
01:13:00.360 Look at the KSI.
01:13:01.380 It's called Lunchly.
01:13:02.540 Whoa.
01:13:02.880 I could see the confusion, but we're a much better product, in my opinion.
01:13:07.980 11 grams of protein.
01:13:09.440 You're gosh dang right.
01:13:12.060 Please, please, they're yours.
01:13:14.340 Lunch, Lee.
01:13:15.100 I'm the pizza one, too.
01:13:16.680 The pizza one's delicious. 1.00
01:13:17.820 Dumb. 1.00
01:13:18.520 Thank you. 0.99
01:13:19.280 Maybe your next lucrative sponsorship.
01:13:21.280 Yeah.
01:13:22.640 That's with Mr. Beast, right?
01:13:24.000 Yeah, it's with Mr. Beast.
01:13:25.020 We did a cool thing with some wells in Africa, building wells, and he was also a sponsor on that.
01:13:30.160 No way.
01:13:30.380 There's a well in Uganda named after Abby.
01:13:32.880 And I saw Kenya, I saw people carry these big yellow jugs walking 10 miles to get water.
01:13:37.640 Very, very, uh, that's, yeah, that's a far distance with water.
01:13:44.120 Water's heavy.
01:13:45.620 Water's really heavy.
01:13:46.780 So is Bradley Martin.
01:13:47.800 He's 260.
01:13:48.820 And he's coming on the show.
01:13:51.360 That's confirmed?
01:13:52.260 Confirmed, yeah.
01:13:53.260 You guys are going to talk about your Suarez a little bit.
01:13:54.820 No, come on, come on.
01:13:55.640 We'll keep it professional.
01:13:57.780 Season four, Loving the Spectrum.
01:13:59.980 Is this something we can look forward to?
01:14:01.440 I know they're going to do it. And, you know, they scour the United States looking for new people and all that kind of stuff. So, you know, we never know until kind of like they what this what's going on. I mean, it's it's kind of where are you guys? What's going on? It was a little bit different at the beginning than it is now because, you know, everyone's kind of in different parts of their own story. Some have relationships, some some don't. Some are still seeking. But it's just been an amazing thing to be part of, you know.
01:14:25.180 you know kian you can tell so i'm i'm a i'm a creator yeah i i've been doing this stuff forever
01:14:30.760 so when i watch shows i watch them a little differently i'm watching like like the scope
01:14:34.980 i wonder what it looks like behind the scenes the writing the casting everything and you can tell
01:14:38.860 he cares he does he cares i'm not sure how many people could could could like successfully make
01:14:44.380 the show without like really being able to care and have the conversations you can hear him say
01:14:48.180 you know the there's a date on season three with matt madison and a young man i think his name is
01:14:52.840 brendan and he has some auditory issues i remember and his heads on the table and i've seen that a
01:14:57.100 million times and i was so grateful that they showed that on the show because that's a struggle
01:15:00.780 for some people on the spectrum and and um i told kian i said i love that you you kept that in
01:15:06.320 and um you know that that's kind of like the autism that yeah that we see and she was so
01:15:12.660 kind and she sort of understood that but then kian says brendan are you okay do you need to
01:15:16.580 take a break right right in the middle of it he's really focused on what they need and i i think
01:15:21.600 that's pretty great it was um if i'm just being candid here i was i was like a little nervous in
01:15:28.240 season one how this would be done in a way where it didn't feel like like normal reality shows do
01:15:34.920 where the cast is kind of just being exploited um and and he just did it so tastefully i mean he did
01:15:41.300 and you know here's the thing there it's not scripted in any way he scours the united states
01:15:45.460 to find the right people for both the storylines and the dates anyone can call them up that's on
01:15:50.440 the spectrum and kind of figure out you know how to be if they think they're right for it you know
01:15:54.980 that kind of thing and our first meeting the very first time they came to the house
01:15:58.800 once they said yeah we'd like you to do this they came into abby's room and they had everything set
01:16:03.900 up with hot lights it's a small room her bedroom and it is just not the right environment for her
01:16:09.440 to focus and it was not good she told him right to his face within five minutes i don't like this
01:16:14.740 i'm bored can i leave now this is a hot room you know i need a break and it was not good and and i
01:16:20.740 was like why did we agree to do this i'd made a mistake in encouraging her to try the language
01:16:26.400 q a thing is too hard and then he called up and he said we want to come back but this time we're
01:16:31.100 going to let her walk around and do what she wants to do we're just going to really follow her so he
01:16:35.100 let go of that structure of interview and followed her and it was like a different person because
01:16:40.260 for so many it's hard to sit still and focus it's hard to do that just regularly like having these
01:16:45.500 cameras cameras and lights in your face is not right and obviously she crushed it today and
01:16:50.940 obviously you know we'll take that as an ode to our incredible phenomenal interviewing skills but
01:16:58.060 excellent you did an excellent job today both of you guys thank you so much
01:17:03.020 You don't have to run off
01:17:07.580 I know you want it
01:17:08.880 I love both of you
01:17:10.440 I was so excited to meet you guys
01:17:12.600 And I'm very grateful you did our show
01:17:14.580 Thank you for coming on
01:17:15.940 I'm rooting for the relationship
01:17:17.660 And both of you and Christine
01:17:19.020 Thank you for joining us
01:17:20.140 Thank you for letting me be part of it too
01:17:21.860 And Ben
01:17:23.440 Brother Ben
01:17:25.880 You've been through a lot
01:17:27.640 Abby for those who are interested
01:17:30.780 Where can we find your hats
01:17:32.520 if one wanted to buy them?
