00:00:14.980 But just don't say it out loud.
00:00:16.060 You're probably just going to be some rich guy
00:00:17.460 and he's going to whisk you away.
00:00:19.740 This is awkward.
00:00:20.840 Listen to No Safe Words with October and Tony Gonzalez
00:00:23.640 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast,

00:00:36.500 right before the rumble i just said hey i should do your show one time do you want to know why it
00:00:39.900 happened so quick tiffy time canceled on us oh i'm a replacement for tiffy way to go guys
00:00:44.640 we need stories so our fans can emotionally invest in our characters why do they hate logan paul
00:00:51.000 because he's a cocky prick right and the crowd surfing thing was wild that would have never
00:00:55.280 happened under vince mcmahon michael cole yeeting on a table would never happen trying to dap up 0.94
00:00:59.620 rappers would have never happened under vince mcmahon but i was the original yeet by the way
00:01:03.440 so did jay steal it from you yes and i'm sending him a season assist not work i had a little run
00:01:10.180 back when i was a heel or actually got in the ring terrible terrible what i did but i took bumps
00:01:13.420 right couldn't have been worse than mine watch wrestlemania in 2011 when i had my match with
00:01:17.180 jerry you know i know at the time we're about to go on the air live it's all this pressure i see
00:01:21.340 Pat walked into the gorilla with these shorts on. 0.99
00:01:23.800 What the f*** are you doing? 0.99
00:01:25.580 Then he stormed off. 1.00
00:01:26.580 And I'm like, where the f*** are you going? 0.98
00:01:27.760 I'm not doing the show. 0.96
00:01:28.640 What?
00:01:37.800 Let's talk about it.
00:01:39.840 My gosh.
00:01:41.000 Caleb, you rolling?
00:01:41.860 Yes, sir.
00:01:42.880 Shelby, you rolling?
00:01:43.920 Yes, sir.
00:01:44.340 Ask me something.
00:01:45.020 Mike, are you rolling?
00:01:46.620 Not right now.
00:01:48.260 That would be a show.
00:01:49.340 Yeah, right?
00:01:50.000 That would be a show on his own.
00:01:51.100 Oh man, I'm so proud to say this
00:01:53.640 Ladies and gentlemen, it's Michael Cole
00:01:55.880 Thanks guys, I am so excited to be here
00:01:57.940 Really, seriously
00:01:58.780 It's funny, we were talking right before the Rumble
00:02:01.700 About some stuff and I just said
00:02:03.620 Hey, I should do your show one time
00:02:05.140 And he's like, oh my god, let's do it
00:02:06.600 He's pumped
00:02:07.540 I didn't expect to get a text though
00:02:10.720 While I'm drinking in the bar at 12.30 at night
00:02:12.700 To say, hey, can you be at the Hyatt
00:02:14.980 At 12 o'clock tomorrow?
00:02:16.240 Do you want to know why it happened so quick?
00:02:19.080 Tiffy time cancelled on us
00:02:20.660 Oh, I'm a replacement for Tiffany
00:02:22.980 Way to go, guys
00:02:24.000 I can be honest about it
00:02:27.340 Because I told you
00:02:28.060 When you said I gotta be on your podcast
00:02:30.080 I was like, yeah, yes
00:02:31.620 It'll happen eventually
00:02:32.640 We stagger the wrestlers
00:02:34.120 Because people just call us a wrestling podcast 0.57
00:02:35.700 Which is partially true
00:02:36.640 It's a big part of my life now
00:02:37.740 But yeah, we had Tiffany on
00:02:39.840 And she canceled
00:02:40.980 And we were like, dang 0.97
00:02:41.920 We're screwed
00:02:42.860 And I was like, I just had this conversation with Michael 0.98
00:02:45.340 Shot in the dark
00:02:46.620 Let's see if he's available
00:02:47.660 So dude, yes
00:02:48.840 Why did she cancel?
00:02:50.180 So is it somebody told me it's because she's like super big time right now?
00:02:54.120 Yeah, she big time does.
00:02:55.240 Oh, she did.
00:02:55.820 I think she's doing Rogan.
00:02:57.520 Oh, really? 0.98
00:02:59.060 That's the woman's world champ, right? 1.00
00:03:01.660 Yeah, she's doing a whole media tour. 1.00
00:03:03.700 Yeah.
00:03:04.440 So, dude, Michael Cole.
00:03:05.860 So, wait a minute.
00:03:06.480 Let's get back to it for a second.
00:03:08.820 What?
00:03:09.240 I saw this go viral.
00:03:10.720 What happened?
00:03:11.740 With what?
00:03:12.280 The whole Ludwig Kaiser protecting his girlfriend? 0.99
00:03:15.440 This is the dumbest narrative that, bro. 0.99
00:03:19.420 I don't even want to 1.00
00:03:21.020 I don't even want to feed anything
00:03:22.500 Michael Hayes is the one who started this
00:03:24.240 Of course he is
00:03:25.120 I was just telling Tiffany
00:03:27.660 Like a good peer
00:03:29.180 Like if you ever need advice on how to be a good wrestler
00:03:32.360 Or like anything
00:03:33.420 I know she's the woman's champion
00:03:34.720 But I'm the champion of everything
00:03:37.420 So I was just like yo
00:03:38.800 If you want to learn how to do a good moonsault better
00:03:41.400 Frog splash like I can help you
00:03:43.500 And Michael Cole came up
00:03:44.900 Or Michael Hayes sorry
00:03:46.580 Long night
00:03:47.680 He was like
00:03:50.100 Busted
00:03:51.200 You were flirting with Tiffany
00:03:53.560 And I'm like Michael
00:03:54.600 I'm just being a friendly guy
00:03:56.880 And then Ludwig took it wrong
00:03:58.680 And then tried to attack me backstage with a chair
00:04:00.820 Because I was flirting with his girl
00:04:02.060 Or so he thought
00:04:03.200 I'm not here to cause drama bro
00:04:06.240 I don't want any problems
00:04:06.960 I'm here to win
00:04:07.680 Big time rivalry though
00:04:09.540 There's no rivalry
00:04:12.980 There's nothing bro
00:04:15.300 These guys are peanuts to me
00:04:17.160 Let's be honest, you know.
00:04:18.540 Peanuts, that's really going to go for a while with Kaiser.
00:04:21.680 Bro, it's peanuts to me, bro.
00:04:24.380 I'm wrestling the big matches, bro.
00:04:25.900 The Elimination Chambers, the top three of the Rumble.
00:04:28.200 Like, you were announcing top three of Royal Rumble.
00:04:31.460 And you had an incredible move, too.
00:04:33.040 Off the ring, to the announce table, to the barricade, to the steps, to back end.
00:04:37.300 Brother.
00:04:38.020 How did you take to this so quickly?
00:04:40.280 No, Michael.
00:04:41.120 This is your podcast.
00:04:42.480 No, but I do have a serious question.
00:04:44.060 I've been wanting to ask you this.
00:04:45.360 i've done this for 28 years now i've never seen anyone take to the business as quickly as you
00:04:50.520 have now mcafee who's obviously my partner pat's done great in the ring he's incredible um but you
00:04:55.340 just came aboard and like it was awesome like how thanks thanks michael seriously the the answer is
00:05:01.280 um i think far less exciting than you think uh i wrestled like the majority of my younger life
00:05:09.680 And I did a ton of stunts
00:05:11.960 For YouTube videos
00:05:13.200 It kind of made perfect sense
00:05:17.380 That I would end up right where I am 0.99
00:05:19.100 And then you obviously had the talking shit 0.99
00:05:21.700 Being the villain 0.99
00:05:22.780 And now it's kind of like everything
00:05:24.580 And the athleticism too
00:05:26.240 It's like when you watch him
00:05:28.240 Last night
00:05:29.640 Because this has been a couple years brewing now
00:05:31.780 And there's been so many times where I've talked about
00:05:33.620 As an outsider looking in
00:05:35.600 His level of athleticism
00:05:36.980 but when you see him enter the ring with the caliber of talent that was in that ring last
00:05:42.820 night it's so palpable the level that he's on like i don't think anyone could actually
00:05:47.860 like i know i'm serious i really really noticed it when you entered last into the room like and
00:05:54.080 you have seen all these people's you know cena punk and and all the you know new guys old guys
00:05:58.960 everybody and you're out there walking on this railing and i'm thinking to myself i'm like dude 0.98
00:06:03.100 i know this kid very well but is there a chance he falls there's no chance he falls he's gonna
00:06:07.100 he's gonna nail it he's fully focused he's fully locked in what are you gonna say about the wall
00:06:11.220 first off that's the nicest thing you've ever said but i think people see really see it dude
00:06:16.180 honestly can i tell you a quick story before we get into your podcast about that table jump yeah
00:06:21.240 do you know how many people came up to me and didn't think i would make that jump
00:06:26.500 bro i had i had like seven producers come up to me they said are you sure you can make that jump i
00:06:34.060 say bro i'm certain i like there is zero percent chance i don't make that jump because it was like
00:06:42.060 a nine foot leap you nailed it did you have a backup plan for a miss no right no he would have
00:06:47.040 been eliminated no no no which is well which is good too because it's like almost like a manifestation
00:06:51.080 of that mishappening did you did you practice the jump a couple times actual ring to table
00:06:57.700 no no just just the distance yeah yeah do you think that do you think that his his skills and
00:07:05.220 his ability to do it there would potentially translate to a traditional like like could you
00:07:10.020 go to the standing long jump and compete i did the long jump you did of course he did yeah what
00:07:15.520 else haven't you done no i'm a jack of all trades multi-hyphenate stop stop michael michael michael
00:07:21.520 this is your podcast exciting for me bro this is exciting for me i think what you do is probably
00:07:28.860 the most impactful part of what we do you are the voice of wwe you are telling the stories for
00:07:38.060 for anyone tuning in who isn't a fan or in the wwe universe you're the one connecting the dots
00:07:44.560 and literally painting the picture with your words
00:07:47.680 so people can follow the story.
00:07:49.720 And in my opinion, the WWE storylines are so rich
00:07:54.620 and that's what sets the universe apart
00:07:56.980 and the organization apart.
00:07:58.080 That's why it's worth multiple billions of dollars.
00:08:00.940 And you're the one painting the canvas for the viewer.
00:08:04.620 And that's why Netflix wanted us, right?
00:08:06.160 I mean, Netflix understands
00:08:07.520 that we're a storytelling entity first.
00:08:10.140 We're not professional wrestling anymore.
00:08:12.020 We haven't been for many years.
00:08:13.060 We're an entertainment product.
00:08:14.200 We need stories so our fans can emotionally invest in our characters.
00:08:19.080 Why do they hate Logan Paul? 0.99
00:08:20.960 Because he's a cocky prick, right? 1.00
00:08:23.120 I wasn't aware. 1.00
00:08:24.400 As a character.
00:08:26.520 Got him.
00:08:28.500 I wasn't aware of people hating him.
00:08:30.560 I feel loved and revered.
00:08:32.940 Oh, yeah, after the entrance last night, the loudest boo of the evening.
00:08:37.240 His mom said last night, I probed his mom.
00:08:44.200 i queried his mom about this last night at mcdonald's i said at mcdonald's yeah i said
00:08:51.800 i said i said pam are you are you aware of the number of people who dislike your son and and
00:08:59.680 she said those people are simply wrong that's her answer to it she's like no no no i'm like
00:09:06.980 so there's no world where you can see a criticism right she's like absolutely not
00:09:11.520 they're simply wrong i was like okay that's my mother she's my mom right she's amazing but but
00:09:18.300 no again we're an entertainment product and it's the emotional connection whether you're a bad guy
00:09:22.740 or a good guy uh is one of the reasons we're on netflix now i tell people all the time uh i've
00:09:28.580 never pretended in 28 years to be a professional wrestling announcer i'm not what are you talking
00:09:34.780 about i'm a narrator i'm a storyteller i'm a pitchman i'm a uh play-by-play announcer okay
00:09:45.560 somewhat um i embellish stories i create characters uh i'm a jack of all trades and um i've never i
00:09:55.140 think that's the one thing that when i first started my career here one of the reasons the
00:09:59.600 fans hated me because i wasn't a professionally wrestling announcer but i just think over the
00:10:04.620 years they've come to respect the work ethic and they also understand that to your point i've been
00:10:09.960 a soundtrack for a couple of different generations now not only within the business but also the fans
00:10:14.540 watching at home and i think that people are beginning to understand now that yeah you know
00:10:19.940 what you don't have to call every single move in a wrestling match you make sure you call the big
00:10:24.120 spots the big moments but it's more important for me to explain to our audience who you guys are
00:10:30.500 and especially with Netflix we have so many new viewers that are tuning in now and I hear all
00:10:36.680 over the country wherever we travel people coming up to us and saying I've never watched
00:10:40.920 WWE before I never understood what it was I thought it was a bunch of old men running around
00:10:45.560 in tights now they're understanding that it's actually a television show episodic each and
00:10:50.540 every week and so one of my jobs now which I love is being able to educate this new audience
00:10:55.960 on who you guys are like who's Logan Paul you know who's uh who's John Cena uh who's Roman Reigns
00:11:02.940 but do that in a way where we're not insulting uh the old school fans who already know all that
00:11:10.280 you're the Morgan Freeman Shawshank of Shawshank Redemption that is WWE you're telling everybody
00:11:16.500 about Andy's life exactly and that's that's partially why I appreciate what you do so much
00:11:22.240 because I try to speak to the people
00:11:25.120 who are getting absorbed into this universe as well.
00:11:29.940 I'm not always appealing to the current fans.
00:11:32.580 I'm trying to bring people in
00:11:34.060 and show them why we're special.
00:11:35.940 But you mentioned it, your work ethic.
00:11:37.900 Your work ethic is crazy.
00:11:39.540 28 years, you've only missed three shows.
00:11:43.160 Three shows, yep.
00:11:44.680 Three television shows that I was assigned to.
00:11:46.980 That I was assigned to.
00:11:48.180 One was my wife had a kidney transplant back in 2001.
00:11:51.340 You get a pass.
00:11:52.240 Yes.
00:11:53.020 The second one.
00:11:53.860 Were you kind of mad at her for it happening on the time around the show?
00:11:58.540 So there's an interesting story about this.
00:12:00.820 Dude, you couldn't have waited.
00:12:02.380 But there's an interesting story about this, though.
00:12:06.080 Her brother-in-law was the one who was going to give the kidney.
00:12:09.000 So since he was a living donor, we could play around with the schedule.
00:12:12.800 She was actually supposed to receive her kidney transplant on,
00:12:16.240 and we lived in New Jersey at the time, on September 11th, 2001.
00:12:21.520 What?
00:12:22.240 and she we were actually in the hospital that morning when everything happened and um they
00:12:29.360 hadn't begun the procedure yet so they shut everything down because obviously all the
00:12:32.420 hospitals in the new york city area had to become a trauma center right so um it her transplant was
00:12:38.380 put off for three weeks and they rescheduled it for a monday which happened to be could you imagine
00:12:43.820 that happening like on a morning where you already have so much anxiety about what's about to happen
00:12:47.900 and then that happens it was we and we were in we you know obviously we were in the hospital we
00:12:51.760 were in the prep room whatever and we had no idea what was going on and the the place that the
00:12:56.640 hospital just it was utter complete panic people were going and we were like what the heck is going
00:13:02.660 on not gonna have your procedure today there's been a major accident in new york and then we
00:13:06.220 of course go outside the tvs are in the lobby this stuff is going on and it was it was surreal
00:13:10.520 okay so that's crazy that's one that's fine you get a second one was my my son my uh my son's
00:13:17.160 wedding another pass and then uh the third one was we actually took a family trip last year for
00:13:22.260 the first time we were able to get everybody together about that last my kid my kids are
00:13:25.960 older now and i've got i've got grandkids so i took a family trip so i actually got that off but
00:13:31.280 they were the three the three i missed okay uh how do you maintain the family environment
00:13:36.400 and all the love if you're traveling every single week that's why i've been married 30 years
00:13:41.420 so uh i started i went to syracuse university um and i started actually in news uh in radio i was
00:13:49.580 a radio news journalist and that back in the late 80s in the early 90s radio news was like
00:13:54.880 that was the thing if you wanted to be a journalist that's where you went i mean i
00:13:59.500 traveled the world uh for cbs and it was so great but um i met my wife at the time she was a sales
00:14:07.420 person at the station I was working at in Houston that's where I met her so Yolanda's only known me
00:14:13.580 as being a person that is on the road so we've never had that we got married we were together
00:14:19.920 seven days a week and then all of a sudden I'm flying around the world she's never known that
00:14:23.380 she's always understood me as being a person that travels and she knows I enjoy it I also tell
00:14:27.560 people I think I've been married so long and been with her for so long because you know and you know
00:14:33.160 you travel a lot a lot logan when you are home and those are very precious times and very precious
00:14:38.960 days to be and you don't want to argue and fight with your wife when you're at home because then
00:14:43.520 what are you going to do you go on the road for five days and now you're miserable again
00:14:46.120 so i think that's one of the reasons and we have great lives you know i get on the road i get to
00:14:49.520 hang out with my buddies she's at home she hangs out with her girlfriends and then when we're
00:14:52.460 together it's me and her so i mean obviously yeah when we're home like we don't want to fight with
00:14:57.040 our partners but yeah no it's inevitable i feel like i mean sometimes it depends listen the older
00:15:02.200 Is it not?
00:15:03.000 Do you not fight?
00:15:04.000 Not anymore.
00:15:05.000 Not anymore.
00:15:05.480 How long did that happen for?
00:15:06.920 Just out of curiosity, if someone was in a metaphorical relationship
00:15:10.080 and there was fighting.
00:15:11.020 Maybe.
00:15:11.600 I think, you know, the first few years, I think, in a marriage were always rough.
00:15:15.960 I know my kids have gone through that, too.
00:15:17.620 They're both married.
00:15:18.160 But I think as the years move along and you understand that hopefully not this.
00:15:25.860 You've heard the chaos.
00:15:27.220 Now you can see it.

00:16:23.560 Or the food we just say that is surprisingly delicious.

00:17:10.500 Would you say a D-list actor?
00:17:13.960 D?
00:17:15.920 I don't even know.
00:17:16.720 There's such a thing as D.
00:17:17.760 No, no, no.
00:17:18.420 I mean like.
00:17:18.980 I can't even get on the C-list.
00:17:19.880 Like I'm not even average.
00:17:20.720 I'm not even passing.
00:17:21.700 I'm failing.
00:17:22.520 Listen to No Safe Words with October and Tony Gonzalez,

00:17:33.860 This isn't for everyone, but she's my best friend.
00:17:36.280 She's my life partner.
00:17:37.180 I knew that the day that I met her.
00:17:38.980 And I think that as you get older, 1.00
00:17:41.480 you just don't want to waste valuable time arguing over silly shit. 1.00
00:17:45.180 Most arguments are silly, stupid shit. 1.00
00:17:47.480 Is there an age gap? 1.00
00:17:49.540 My wife is four and a half years older than me.
00:17:52.020 four and a half so it's not that big no not at all because that's funny you say like as you get
00:17:55.900 older that's why if you date like someone that's younger than you they sometimes will still want
00:18:01.120 to argue because they're not older right they don't understand that you know and and the thing
00:18:05.460 with with me and yoli is we we had kids at a very young age we were in our early 20s we had our
00:18:12.100 children so um we were empty nested by the time we were 40 and that gave us a lot of time together
00:18:18.820 she could travel on the road with me and go to different shows and stuff and you know she's not
00:18:22.780 a wrestling fan but she likes to go to the cities and then now we have grandkids right so we have
00:18:26.540 i've got a little three-year-old grandson that runs around which is unbelievable i love it um
00:18:31.400 but uh you know she understands too like we live in texas love san antonio had a nice ranch out in
00:18:38.340 west texas and we get to spend a lot of time there which is really cool but you know for us um you
00:18:44.040 know i had a very long conversation with her a couple i just signed a brand new contract with
00:18:48.420 the company so i'm going to be here for a number of years wow cool um balling yeah and i mean but
00:18:53.380 but the company really made me feel you know really for the first time that i was really
00:18:58.620 important to this place well what and after 28 years yeah after 28 years sometimes why was it
00:19:03.800 because the paycheck oh the paycheck's part of it but the the the new regime had a lot to do with
00:19:08.860 it but when i when i when i went to sign the new deal i want i sat down with my wife and you know
00:19:14.460 i'm 58 years old now and i'm like they want to get me to retirement age and is this because we
00:19:20.160 had talked about me getting out of this for a long while now just because of the travel and
00:19:24.100 everything else and um and she was like you got to do it this is your legacy like you're going to
00:19:30.420 be miserable if you don't finish this up the way you see that's a wife and she was great about it
00:19:35.360 and so she was 100 on board with it and um so i'm here for a while hey congratulations thank you
00:19:40.860 on that note yo what what are they doing to my guy cory graves uh that's uh that's a strange
00:19:48.660 situation i love cory me too love him to death um he uh i still don't understand all the dynamics
00:19:57.420 of it i know that uh he sent something uh out on social media yeah that was pretty critical of the
00:20:03.120 company um you know he tried to explain to everyone that he was trying to generate some
00:20:07.280 interest in um maybe a type of a storyline um i don't think the company saw i don't think the
00:20:12.700 company saw it was not a word right and it was a shoot yes allegedly allegedly but so um and again
00:20:19.440 i think he's i think him and the company are working that out i love cory to death he's an
00:20:23.680 unbelievable commentator uh beside mcafee he's uh probably best partner i've ever had dude you you
00:20:29.820 guys are like such a good duo to me and i personally love cory as well he's a great person
00:20:35.420 but i also think his work is fantastic i i seriously have like a very special spot in
00:20:40.300 my heart for commentators because like the work you guys do even just michael you're you're there
00:20:45.520 all day all day you have to be even announcing the announcing the pre-show matches well and
00:20:52.620 look at like logan look at the rumble this weekend i mean we had there was 60 people involved in two
00:20:58.680 rumble matches then you had a tag team match and a championship match i have to be able to put
00:21:04.840 together the numbers and the statistics and the stories of everyone dude it's insane make it
00:21:09.500 different and um i think one of the things uh about the old regime and listen i will never
00:21:15.060 ever disparage vince mcmahon um yeah he's got his personal issues and whatnot but from a
00:21:21.000 professional standpoint i'll never disparage the man i would not be here today without vince
00:21:24.960 like he no no one would he gave me everything um stuck with me when i was learning to be a
00:21:31.020 wrestling guy wasn't a wrestling guy when i came here why do you think he believed in you so much
00:21:35.180 i think a lot of it really had to do i think there were two things but you know jim ross
00:21:41.340 obviously was the man i still think the greatest ever um i think vince was ready to understood that
00:21:47.380 jr was getting older and he needed to bring in somebody younger um and so i just think because
00:21:54.360 of my background and i was a good announcer at the time i just think he jr had came to the wwe
00:22:01.000 already a wrestling guy and i think me being new and fresh and not a wrestling guy vince was able
00:22:07.620 to mold me how he wanted me to be an announcer interesting and um he stuck with it and even when
00:22:13.180 i sucked in the beginning and everything else the fans freaking hated me vince stuck with me
00:22:17.540 that's that's like that's kind of interesting no because vince is pretty cutthroat yes that's that's 0.88
00:22:23.920 why it i talk to michael hayes about this all the time uh it's amazing that i've lasted in this
00:22:29.680 company this long because Vince there are certain things that would set that man off right and he
00:22:35.340 would just go he would just like okay you're done fired see ya like for sometimes for no reason yeah
00:22:39.800 but he stuck with me 100% of the time and so I'll never disparage the man but Vince was very um you
00:22:46.360 know very heavy-handed uh controlled it was his company his sandbox to whatever you want so I never
00:22:51.240 was really able to break out and be myself with the exception of a little bit of a heel run I had
00:22:55.320 you know over a decade ago but with when when when vince left and paul came and was in charge
00:23:01.480 uh triple h he really changed things uh and then we brought in lee fitting who came from espn
00:23:07.400 and those lee coming from espn where the talent is the announcer he came here and said i don't
00:23:15.780 understand why our guys at the desk aren't you know bigger and have bigger personas and are as
00:23:22.320 respected as as the people in the ring and you know being old school i understand that you guys
00:23:27.580 in the ring and the girls in the ring they're the ones putting their bodies on the line each and
00:23:31.820 every week and people are buying tickets to see roman reigns they're not buying tickets to see
00:23:35.300 michael cole but as you said earlier we're a very important part of the product super what lee and
00:23:39.900 paul have allowed us to do is bring our personalities out and you know you're seeing the real michael
00:23:45.520 cole now like the michael cole that crowd serves exactly the guy who crowd serves we'll talk about
00:23:49.860 that in a second but but you know you're seeing i'm a sarcastic prick at times and i like to have
00:23:55.120 fun and like pat called me the other day you know i'm the old white dude right and and he's the
00:24:00.280 young he's the young punk right well he's a young white dude yeah young young white yeah i guess
00:24:05.280 but and but pat like working with him is unbelievable because pat we were talking about
00:24:10.500 this before we got in here today pat is pat but he doesn't change he doesn't put on a show or
00:24:18.880 anything he's pat mcafee and everything that he does so you know we hit it off we had to just
00:24:23.980 hit it off in the beginning and um it's like two guys at a bar and watching wrestling that's what
00:24:30.200 it is you know that's cool and we just such a vibe that's what it is and pat doesn't try to
00:24:34.200 be a wrestling announcer you know and i think that's what makes him different i actually have
00:24:38.340 some a note on that the topic you're talking about um with every passing day and second
00:24:44.900 passing at the sands of
00:24:46.280 I feel the wrenching feeling of existential
00:24:49.120 this is
00:24:50.120 this is for my therapist
00:24:51.960 I'm so sorry that was the wrong
00:24:54.600 note
00:24:55.780 I'm so sorry Leslie
00:24:58.400 I will be at the meeting on Tuesday
00:25:00.400 Pat McAfee described
00:25:02.780 your pants is too tight while you were crowd surfing 0.97
00:25:04.980 the other day called you a booze bag and a doofus 0.67
00:25:07.200 do you have a response 0.89
00:25:08.780 yeah he's right on every single
00:25:10.760 take on that I am a booze bag
00:25:13.260 But just like you guys, I was out last night until 2.30 in the morning.
00:25:16.840 Hey, come on.
00:25:17.220 No, but the crowd surfing thing was wild.
00:25:22.120 I saw that.
00:25:23.320 This would have never happened.
00:25:24.920 That would have never happened under Vince McMahon.
00:25:26.740 Really?
00:25:27.100 Michael Cole yeeting on a table would never happen.
00:25:29.600 Trying to dap up rappers would have never happened under Vince McMahon.
00:25:33.060 But the crowd surfing thing, Cody comes out, and he's like,
00:25:35.140 okay, we got to do this thing.
00:25:36.220 And I'm like, do what?
00:25:37.040 Oh, God, here we go.
00:25:37.820 What's going to happen now?
00:25:39.300 And then he says, you're going to crowd surf.
00:25:41.220 I'm like, crowd surf?
00:25:41.980 You've got to be kidding me.
00:25:43.260 So then he goes, it's easy.
00:25:45.080 Look at me.
00:25:45.700 We look down.
00:25:46.460 It's a six foot drop.
00:25:47.680 And like, I'm not jumping down there.
00:25:49.300 I'm 50 years old. 0.99
00:25:50.160 Kill myself. 1.00
00:25:50.880 So I actually fall on my ass, look like a dummy. 1.00
00:25:53.000 And then I get into the crowd and I'm doing the whole thing. 0.99
00:25:55.180 And I'm getting my junk grabbed and people are sticking.
00:25:56.920 They're grabbing your cheeks. 0.57
00:25:58.280 Good thing I moved my wallet to my sport jacket.
00:26:01.040 But I'd never done it before in my life.
00:26:03.580 But you did.
00:26:04.100 Now you did it.
00:26:04.600 Yes.
00:26:04.920 But even as a kid, I'd never done it.
00:26:06.380 That was your first crowd service?
00:26:07.680 So I find out afterward, Cody's explaining to me, well, I should have told you how to do this.
00:26:12.060 You've got to keep your legs closed.
00:26:13.020 you got to be rigid and like i was flip-flopping all over the place like we probably trusted the
00:26:17.120 fact that there's a bunch of like dudes in the audience they were going to be grabbing yeah but
00:26:20.720 some of those people don't like me right so but uh that was wild that was the first time i'd done
00:26:26.780 but again i would have never like the whole social media thing you know i i never i'm finally
00:26:33.840 starting to understand it now like i appreciate so much like what you've accomplished and what
00:26:38.700 pat's accomplished and all these guys you know i show speed of course who's in the rumble like
00:26:42.740 i never understood any of that stuff but i am beginning to understand it now and now i find
00:26:47.240 myself um you know actually going to x and going to instagram and and being entertained and
00:26:53.720 understanding that this is the way of the world now damn and also understand and mcafee was very 0.92
00:26:58.560 important in helping me understand all this stuff um but now like doing silly shit like i don't tweet 0.96
00:27:03.260 much but me and pat will get together on monday and put out a controversial tweet or something
00:27:06.460 and then i just like to sit there and watch all the responses to it or whatever but um but just
00:27:10.680 seeing like sounds like awesome just seeing how exciting it is though like you know getting on a
00:27:16.880 table last night with wade and pat and just yeeting and eating a ring and eating with jay
00:27:20.760 and looking like a bird flopping my wings but then going on looking at social media and just
00:27:25.300 saying oh my god it's pretty cool people actually like this or they hate it but it doesn't matter
00:27:28.300 people are talking about it and to me that's that's really cool but again i'm having the
00:27:33.600 most fun i've ever had in my career amazing we can tell we can tell bro you're like lighting up
00:27:38.780 talking about this stuff and it's so cool that you have this new contract and it sounds like
00:27:43.100 it's probably going to be the most exciting like most you part of your career which is sick
00:27:47.540 netflix was also a big part of this i i really the cool thing i've been able to be a part of a
00:27:53.420 lot of changes uh in our in our company over the years first time we did network tv on upn i was
00:27:59.100 there uh spike tv back in the day of course usa network uh i was the the guy on fox which was
00:28:05.680 really important to me because i really wanted to be able to to call a network television show
00:28:09.500 and then the netflix thing was like i have to be a part of that like that was yeah you know what
00:28:14.800 what a game changer for everything super cool yeah super cool it's like uh it's it's it's the
00:28:20.620 it's the new forefront of like you know live tv meets a streaming network and we're at the front
00:28:25.460 of it yep i wanted to ask because you were talking about uh the chemistry that you and pat have
00:28:30.140 how important is it to have chemistry with the person that you're commentating with have to
00:28:35.200 you you cannot do your job i've been blessed with being able to get along with most of my
00:28:41.560 broadcast partners over the years and i've worked with so many of them yeah um i've always gotten
00:28:45.980 along with everyone they've respected my work i understand their work but with pat it's different
00:28:50.420 pat and i are really good friends um so pat was a uh you know he's always a wrestling fan yeah
00:28:55.480 uh his whole life uh he came to one of our house shows uh in indiana a number of years ago
00:29:01.060 and we just started talking and um he's like i'd like to try this and i'm like well what you know
00:29:07.360 he was at barstool at the time and we're like why don't you come in and start doing some stuff with
00:29:11.380 nxt and he came in and he started doing the the countdown shows and all that and me and him got
00:29:16.260 really really close and then our relationship imploded for a night because at wrestlemania a
00:29:21.700 number of years ago i'm so i'm no longer in charge of the announcers i used to not only be an
00:29:25.900 announcer but i was in charge of all the announcers so i was a vp in the company doing all that
00:29:29.480 and um so we brought pat in to do the wrestlemania kickoff show and you know everybody at
00:29:35.320 wrestlemania is tuxes and ties and the whole nine yards and pat shows up in shorts yeah now they
00:29:41.360 were tuxedo shorts but he shows up in shorts so now we're about to go on the air live it's all
00:29:45.820 this pressure i see pat walk into the gorilla with these shorts on and i'm like in front of 0.99
00:29:51.120 everybody which is my bad what the fuck are you doing dude you're in fucking shorts it's 1.00
00:29:58.080 WrestleMania. 1.00
00:30:00.060 Stephanie McMahon's there.
00:30:01.600 Vince is there.
00:30:02.080 All these people are there.
00:30:02.760 I'm dressing down pat.
00:30:04.560 You little bro'd him.
00:30:05.580 I did.
00:30:06.520 And I, you know,
00:30:07.680 in the heat of the moment,
00:30:08.640 I didn't think about it.
00:30:09.440 Then he stormed off.
00:30:10.600 And I'm like, 1.00
00:30:10.860 where the fuck are you going? 0.99
00:30:11.780 I'm not doing the show. 1.00
00:30:13.420 He goes back.
00:30:14.040 He's packing his bag
00:30:14.900 in the locker room to leave.
00:30:16.780 He goes,
00:30:17.100 you just embarrassed me
00:30:18.060 in front of everybody
00:30:18.720 in this company.
00:30:19.780 And I never thought of it that way.
00:30:21.360 But he was right.
00:30:23.200 Now.
00:30:23.740 What do you mean?
00:30:24.560 He just called out
00:30:25.640 and wearing shorts.
00:30:26.500 Well, that's more of a result of the fact that you had, like, this hybrid talent management and co-host role. 0.89
00:30:32.260 Yeah, that sucked.
00:30:33.400 It did. 0.89
00:30:33.840 And that's why you had to get rid of that. 0.88
00:30:36.560 Ironically, I've worked in that situation before, too, when I was doing shit with Maverick, 0.99
00:30:39.840 and you would tell me to go fucking scold people. 0.96
00:30:43.260 It's hard, because these guys are your peers, right? 0.98
00:30:45.220 And you're working on the air with them, and then you're also managing them.
00:30:47.340 Thank God I got out of that.
00:30:48.320 But then Pat, you know, he's going to pack his bags and leave.
00:30:50.620 And we ended up working it out.
00:30:52.020 We showed Vince the shorts, and Vince was, of course, Vince, great.
00:30:54.960 Why are you yelling at him? 0.99
00:30:56.500 Because he just likes to stir the shit, right? 1.00
00:30:59.540 So, yeah, so it's wild, man. 1.00
00:31:02.940 And ever since then, I think that brought us closer together.
00:31:06.200 And we've been best friends since.
00:31:07.840 I'm doing a show this week before we go up to Raw.
00:31:10.760 And it's just cool.
00:31:11.940 But it comes out on air.
00:31:13.300 You can tell.
00:31:14.200 You guys are buds, right?
00:31:15.120 And it's just this great chemistry that you all have.
00:31:17.100 Pat and I are friends.
00:31:17.860 We talk all the time.
00:31:19.260 And it just comes out.
00:31:21.840 So when I first started really paying attention to the dynamics,
00:31:26.140 that were happening in the ring and in the commentary table,
00:31:29.420 it seemed like there was like a heel announcer
00:31:31.620 and a baby face announcer.
00:31:33.180 That was always the formula.
00:31:34.740 With you and Pat, is that existent?
00:31:40.000 This is by design.
00:31:41.560 We have two completely separate sounding announce teams now
00:31:45.640 for the first time in a very long time.
00:31:48.220 Everybody, once Vince molded Michael Cole over the years,
00:31:52.720 every person we brought into this company since then,
00:31:55.500 and Vince wanted to be Michael Cole.
00:31:57.260 And that is why a lot of these guys
00:31:59.620 who are great broadcasters were never successful.
00:32:01.860 Okay.
00:32:02.460 Because they couldn't be me,
00:32:03.440 and Vince wanted them to be me.
00:32:04.600 You've heard the chaos.
00:32:05.940 Now you can see it.
00:32:07.460 Hello!

00:32:55.660 Yes.
00:32:56.040 Sometimes we even talk about just everyday mundane situations in our lives, like the
00:33:00.640 cool Uber driver we just had.
00:33:02.380 Or the food we just say that was surprisingly delicious.
00:33:05.920 Or we'll talk about the Met Gala and the looks that they wore.
00:33:09.100 Are they awesome?
00:33:09.880 Are they trendy?

00:33:39.640 and all the nitty gritty stuff we all

00:33:43.180 I hate that job. You're probably just gonna meet with some rich
00:33:45.340 guy and he's gonna whisk you away and I'll never
00:33:47.380 see you again.
00:33:49.540 Well, this is awkward.
00:33:50.980 Would you say a D-list actor?
00:33:52.780 D?
00:33:54.740 I don't even know there's such a thing as D.
00:33:56.580 No, no, no.
00:33:57.240 I mean, like...
00:33:57.780 I can't even get on the C-list?
00:33:58.680 Like, I'm not even average?
00:33:59.540 I'm not even passing?
00:34:00.500 I'm failing?
00:34:01.320 Listen to No Safe Words with October and Tony Gonzalez,

00:34:13.580 What Lee Fitting and Paul have done now,
00:34:15.720 Nick Khan,
00:34:16.300 is we've developed two completely different announce teams now.
00:34:19.320 So now on Fridays, you have Joe Tessitore, who's a pro.
00:34:23.300 Yeah, he's great.
00:34:24.140 Unbelievable.
00:34:24.660 But he's not me.
00:34:25.640 He's completely different than me.
00:34:27.860 He's more of a professional broadcaster. 0.99
00:34:30.760 And he doesn't hype, jump up and down and act like an idiot sometimes and scream and yell. 1.00
00:34:35.120 Like I scream. 1.00
00:34:35.820 I'm a screamer that way for 28 years.
00:34:38.320 Nobody ever changed me.
00:34:39.200 Joe's more relaxed.
00:34:40.680 And then he's got Wade Barrett, who's great.
00:34:42.200 And Wade's a heel, right?
00:34:44.040 Pat and I are different.
00:34:45.040 They wanted us to be different.
00:34:46.100 like i said before we're just two guys sitting on a couch drinking a beer watching the show
00:34:49.860 and i don't think yeah the heel dynamic's fun right but i don't i think our fans are
00:34:57.340 are so sophisticated now this isn't your are you sure about that yes very much so just because i
00:35:04.960 sometimes i walk and i like when i'm walking down the aisle and i'm looking out and sophistication
00:35:09.760 is the last word that comes to mind i really see these people like that trust me michael i look
00:35:13.740 him in the eyes and like sometimes i'm just like i'm like whoa there's nothing going on well he's
00:35:18.160 doing this he's doing his heel thing yeah of course no i'm serious but there are those like
00:35:22.720 that but i mean our audience is so different now than it was it's harder for us it's harder for us 0.88
00:35:28.440 to do it because we're not the heel so he's like he's like shit what do i do it here i don't want 0.91
00:35:34.220 to bury the audience but yeah when i was a heel i loved to bury bury the audience but no i really 0.93
00:35:38.960 do think though logan seriously that our audience is a lot more sophisticated now than they were
00:35:42.840 before we don't have to shove things down their throats now they get it yeah that's true you know
00:35:46.540 i don't have to you know explain every single thing of everything oh my god i think he's a
00:35:51.180 bad guy now no let the fans figure that out so i wanted to ask about that this is the thing i'm
00:35:54.940 most curious about how much of the storytelling are you keyed in ahead of time or calling on the
00:36:04.520 spot because you're you're following it and kind of crafting it yourself like are producers in your
00:36:10.460 ear telling you like little little spots to look out for like what's what's the actual art of
00:36:15.520 crafting the things that you're saying so no one's in my ear anymore vince was a lot but again it was 0.96
00:36:21.360 his world yeah what would he say hey hey what the fuck was that he would say anything like give me 0.99
00:36:26.880 great advice or call me a fucking moron or seriously i mean they're just whatever moody 0.99
00:36:33.320 was in and whatever i did um most of it was constructive criticism it really was i mean 0.99
00:36:37.400 there were days where vince would just be vince but you know i think this whole vince screamed at
00:36:41.380 michael cole for 25 years thing uh is way overblown i mean there are moments um but uh it's
00:36:47.440 going to happen in a relationship for that long yeah um but to your point uh you know first off
00:36:52.840 pat mcafee knows nothing pat doesn't want to know anything he doesn't want to know anything that's
00:36:56.900 going on in the show he wants to go out there and just be him intentionally he's like he's like you
00:37:01.480 and our pokemon box breaks amazing amazing a lot of this the question asking that's coming out of
00:37:07.100 him right now and would be for me as well is like we can relate to this yeah like something like
00:37:12.380 someone's level preparation a lot of times like depending on the episode he'll come super prepared
00:37:16.700 i'll i'll purposely intentionally not even look at the pdf i want to come into this the same way
00:37:21.720 the audience is i want to figure this person out as i sit there that's why like this whole
00:37:26.100 conversation is super interesting to us and that's and and that's pat doesn't want to know anything
00:37:29.900 which makes him pat yeah uh i need to be prepared because i uh um i don't know every single step of
00:37:37.140 every single thing that's going to happen but i need to understand storylines i need to understand
00:37:41.300 where we're going to go with certain characters so i can sort of lead the audience in that direction
00:37:44.800 because i am the narrator right so you want to make sure that you're leading the audience a
00:37:48.620 certain way you're the baseline and you're going to keep that dna and that through line of the
00:37:52.740 story going and pat is the the action points yep exactly and then like for instance at the rumble
00:37:59.180 i'll sit at ringside all day like logan said and the guys and girls will come up and talk to me
00:38:03.120 and like gargano and champa the tag champs diy came up to me and they explained their whole uh
00:38:08.880 outlay of their match because there's some certain little things that i had to know about to be able
00:38:12.840 to bring forward in the story and explain why these things were happening and also at the end
00:38:16.740 street profits got involved and people were like why are they getting involved so i would
00:38:20.040 needed to have that knowledge to explain to the audience why this is happening that's what i'm
00:38:24.120 talking about so those are the things okay yeah because because we've we've done stuff yeah like
00:38:28.320 that before with you even even you know the the right hand the titanium rod and and you've you've
00:38:33.900 reinforced the brass knuckles yeah yeah i remember talking to you before the roman match because that
00:38:37.640 was biggest match of your career to that point yeah and i remember talking to you guys about
00:38:41.100 that match and just little storyline things that i had to get in to help you so it was uh yeah i
00:38:45.340 mean that stuff's really really important because again our job first and foremost is to enhance
00:38:49.880 our talent and the the better our talent get from a story standpoint and the more emotionally
00:38:55.020 invested our fans get in our talent obviously we sell more tickets and more people watch the show
00:38:58.420 yep so okay when you made the when you made the jump from radio to wwe like and you were a
00:39:05.960 massive wrestling fan well i was as a kid but yeah oh same yeah how and why so uh it's it's a
00:39:15.800 it's sort of a long story but i'll i needed to explain how this happened so i was in radio news
00:39:20.120 in texas um traveling all the time much more than i do now and my we were young and into our marriage
00:39:27.200 and my i got transferred to new york to work for cbs in new york and they promised me that
00:39:32.540 you're just going to work out of the city so i'll be home all the time and well i got there and i
00:39:37.980 ended up in 96 going out and covering the i had covered bill clinton's campaign in 92 96 i had
00:39:43.420 covered bob dole's campaign and um what i want i want to talk about this after i was i was out
00:39:49.580 i was out uh that entire year 96 and my wife was like what the hell are you doing first off you 0.54
00:39:55.480 move my ass from texas to new york um and now you're not even home you're on the campaign so
00:40:00.540 todd pettengill i'm not sure if you guys are familiar todd pettengill used to work in our 0.97
00:40:04.340 company but he was a huge radio dj in new york at wplj which was a powerhouse in the time in the
00:40:10.180 90s and i had worked with paul with with todd for a while on radio uh he was working here and he was
00:40:14.460 going to leave the company he said hey come in for an audition so i came in and did an audition
00:40:18.860 and didn't hear for a few months but then they said you want to come work here so i figured
00:40:22.900 listen i'm in radio now i have no television experience let me go try this job for a couple
00:40:28.040 of years get some tv experience get a tape under my belt and i'll leave and go back and work at
00:40:32.280 cnn or somewhere well 28 years later i'm still here so uh it just turned into a love uh just
00:40:38.420 this whole business but but but by this point you you know the moves you you you're very even call
00:40:44.540 them half the time though it's just you don't have to yeah you know it's just you don't it's
00:40:48.880 the drama you know i sometimes you you talk to hardcore fans and they get all hung up on oh he 0.99
00:40:54.640 didn't call out a canadian destroyer he didn't know the name of the move who gives a shit yeah 0.95
00:40:59.000 seriously it it's it's the story that's what people care about do you know why i relate to 0.95
00:41:04.320 this it feels like karate combat really 100 so i i commentate a real like a really up and big
00:41:11.100 up-and-coming uh karate karate karate league and like walking into this and being brought on
00:41:18.560 because the energy and bravado and comedy because they want it and social media you know pull as
00:41:23.120 well to sit there next to gsp and boss ruin yep and talk about insane like legends of the game
00:41:30.680 right and to talk about you know jujitsu and grappling and all this stuff and i'm sitting
00:41:35.040 there like were there were there moments where you were like i can't do this like i didn't know 0.86
00:41:40.700 so the funny thing about it is when i started this company in 97 wcw starts kicking our ass yeah
00:41:46.880 yeah and then the screw job happens in montreal with bret hart and vince and sean michaels 0.53
00:41:51.820 and i go home and my wife's like what are you doing your company is about you just what are
00:41:57.280 doing with your life you just left a lucrative job at cbs to go to this circus you've been here
00:42:02.400 six months and now all of a sudden the company's going to go out of business because we thought
00:42:05.680 we're going to go to business yeah it was wild um the what what's what saved me in this business
00:42:12.680 in the beginning was when i first started our producer at the time kevin dunn um said you know
00:42:18.160 nothing about wrestling but we think you're a good broadcaster you need to learn the business
00:42:21.380 so they sent me out on the road every single weekend to our live events which we were running
00:42:26.080 every weekend at the time and i rode with jbl john bradshaw layfield the old cowboy who one of my
00:42:32.460 really good friends he taught me the business in the car my job was to make sure that there was
00:42:36.900 beer and whiskey in the car after every show so i could drive them to the next town but that's how
00:42:41.320 i learned all right and i spent a year with these guys and excuse me that's how i learned the
00:42:44.940 business and then of course with michael hayes and paul hayman and guys like that but um yeah there
00:42:48.860 were times where i was like i made a huge huge mistake here like i have no idea what i'm doing
00:42:53.620 and then jim ross ended up getting sick in 1998 and they threw me out there for four or five
00:42:58.520 months on the main shows and i really was i i was green i was like this is wild like i have
00:43:04.860 i'm not gonna i better start looking for another another job like whoa yeah and you're trying to
00:43:09.800 and you're also at the same time like who are you commentating with it or announcing with it
00:43:13.440 jerry king jerry the king lawler at that time yeah i mean and you're and you're actually beat
00:43:17.700 at wrestlemania yeah but you're you're going out there and it's like you're trying to not only are
00:43:23.020 You're trying to announce for the first big shows yourself,
00:43:26.760 but you have to learn the synergy like this immediately.
00:43:29.960 And that's one of the hardest things.
00:43:32.620 I mean, this whole thing took, you know,
00:43:35.600 at least 60, 70 episodes to get to a point
00:43:38.880 where it was like a semi-honed,
00:43:40.700 and now it's a product, right?
00:43:42.660 But like, that must have been very hard to do
00:43:44.720 in real time on main broadcast.
00:43:47.160 And especially when it comes to wrestling,
00:43:49.280 because as you know, our fans are,
00:43:51.740 they are the hardest they're the most loyal they're also the hardest fans judgmental yeah i
00:43:57.780 mean it's uh it was hard and you know thank god uh i always tell people this thank god that back
00:44:03.420 in the late 90s there was no social media because i don't know if i'd be here today um if there was
00:44:09.900 social media what do you mean by that well just the way that you know everyone has a voice and
00:44:13.960 you know i know i know at the time 99 of the world would have hated michael cole and i probably
00:44:20.180 wouldn't have made it yeah so um but yeah it was it was a wild time well do do you feel like that
00:44:25.660 because one thing i've noticed you know having been around the business a little bit with him is
00:44:29.960 that the hatred is is an equal value currency is love in this in this org right and so it's like 0.97
00:44:37.400 it's it's an attention a currency of attention and so even if they were all day we fucking hate this
00:44:43.340 does it does it change when it comes to the commentary crew there there there's two types 0.89
00:44:48.380 of heat there's the heat you're talking about which is the logan paul heat when he walks out
00:44:53.580 and people boo him yeah and it's not because they hate logan it's just because he plays this
00:44:57.300 character that people don't like it's not a character um well i know well i was trying to
00:45:01.320 be nice but um but but then there's then there is what they they call go away heat oh they consider
00:45:07.780 a bad product yes they just consider it's a bad character it's a bad product it's a bad person on
00:45:12.420 the air we had some announcers recently um that just didn't work out because and you would you
00:45:17.040 could go online and you know 99 of the people hated him and you know at that point like you
00:45:22.740 feel inside yourself like this guy's not going to make it and then when you realize and you listen
00:45:27.980 to some of that you know he's not going to make it you know yeah i uh i think i have go away heat
00:45:33.960 you think so the only reason why it works is because i'm a great wrestler you are i'm not i'm
00:45:41.020 i'm not no but i'm not like that's why you don't you don't have go that's what he's saying is not
00:45:45.540 like like certainly there's a handful of the audience that is genuinely like get this guy
00:45:50.780 out of here because they're jealous yeah that's different you you you know they are seriously
00:45:55.640 they're jealous of you i get that a lot too i know that's why i was like my mom said the same
00:46:01.460 but logan they're jealous of you i mean look what you've accomplished since you've come to w to be
00:46:04.560 not only here i mean look what you accomplished in your life but um i mean it's the same thing 0.94
00:46:08.700 for us like people sitting at home watching a show well oh my god michael cole sucks he didn't 0.90
00:46:14.600 know the name of that move or this or that i would first off they're mad because they don't 0.98
00:46:19.320 have my job second off um put them in that chair sit in that chair no no dude your your job is 0.98
00:46:27.660 fucking crazy michael i'm not kidding i don't get it i know i get it which is why i have so 0.98
00:46:33.640 much respect for you and the commentating team i would rather do what i do than have to do what 0.98
00:46:38.500 you do dude how do you talk so much and not get tired i'm surprised i have a voice today because
00:46:44.340 i blew it um you know i get tired i don't get me especially as i get older you know and um i really
00:46:51.560 have to take care of myself now i i eat right i you know i still like my whiskey but uh work out
00:46:56.900 and seriously at my age you know my wife's always like why are you going to the gym again i go every
00:47:01.080 day because it's not because i want to obviously you got to look halfway decent when you're in
00:47:04.860 television right yeah but as you get older you know your body starts to break down yeah and
00:47:08.840 this job is very taxing both mentally and physically people don't understand the physical
00:47:13.260 things of it you know three and a half hours jumping up and down screaming yelling you know
00:47:17.400 it's it's it's hard so you got to try to stay in shape for that which as i get older i realize i
00:47:22.160 need to do that but um our vocal cords now it's because you're thinking about it thinking about
00:47:31.700 our vocal cords are muscles and just like anything else i utilize those muscles
00:47:38.420 at a very high level every week oh i get it and it has now these muscles are in they're in shape
00:47:45.540 now right and um so there's it's funny seeing broadcasters come into our business for the
00:47:51.920 first time from other realms and try to do what we do it takes them a long time i remember one
00:47:57.760 of our announcers uh kevin patrick kevin egan he works with mls now but he um he had he had a
00:48:03.740 terrible time like with his voice like his first few months here he could not he wasn't in shape
00:48:08.860 to do this dude not even just the amount of talking you have to be on that's like we could
00:48:15.600 i could probably do this podcast audio and have like we could we've done three in a row maybe
00:48:21.160 some days like four in a row and it's all right but live tv having to be on is like that's the
00:48:27.460 real drain for me there's no net right it is live and you got and especially in this day and age
00:48:33.300 you got to be very very careful what you say obviously you know especially on you know even
00:48:37.420 with netflix like we thought we were going to be able to get away with a few other things but
00:48:40.840 netflix is very strict with that i heard this yeah yes and people told me they're actually a
00:48:44.660 little more so guys like us that are talking live especially working with pat who's got you know
00:48:48.600 he's got no buffer he's just pat um you gotta be really careful sometimes what you say especially
00:48:53.780 and that's another reason and pat keeps me young too i've got to keep up to date with the phrases
00:48:59.620 the kids use today and stuff like that and make sure try to make sure you have the right aura
00:49:02.760 well yeah we'll also make sure that i'm not i'm not saying stuff that is an lt has like changed
00:49:08.260 into a different and also one thing i've noticed too and maybe you notice it is like for some of
00:49:13.800 the longer stuff like some of these events that i do with karate combat are like six seven hours
00:49:19.180 long right by hour four or five that that barrier of like should i say this or not say this starts
00:49:27.400 to kind of melt away a little bit you're starting to become mush yeah and all of a sudden things
00:49:32.440 are coming out of your mouth wait a second did i say that am i here what's going on and the problem
00:49:36.940 with our stuff to your point logan too is it's not just it's not just being on because it's live
00:49:41.860 television every single match in character have to be given the same respect and gravity yeah so
00:49:52.320 i can't treat logan paul any differently than i treat ludwig kaiser or i can't treat roman reign 0.93
00:49:57.700 so like at the rumble i've got to be high energy for every woman's entrance yeah for 30 and then
00:50:04.780 obviously as you get close to the finish and the big moves and putting everybody over then you've 1.00
00:50:08.640 got to be able to treat the tag team match with with with a new group Motor City Machine Guns
00:50:13.600 at the same level you would treat the women at because you don't want to feel like you're 0.99
00:50:17.060 disrespecting them then you go into the Cody match which is just an intense ladder match right
00:50:21.100 you got it that's a championship match you got to be up here and then of course the rumble
00:50:24.480 men's rumble which is last event of the year last so you're like saving up energy well it's hard
00:50:29.280 you got to keep that energy level the whole way and then now you got 30 men entering and last
00:50:33.240 night you know you were in there that last six in that it was i had goosebumps oh it's insane you
00:50:38.900 had hall of famers in there did you think about that at all yeah i'm getting goosebumps now it
00:50:42.960 was i mean you're in there with guys john cena seth rollins um punk punk roman reigns jay usso 0.98
00:50:48.920 that was insane insane i i looked around i was looking at these guys and i was just like damn 0.96
00:50:53.340 i'm right at home right no i know but but you but you felt it i was like you know you know damn well 0.65
00:51:00.920 deep down inside you were going how the hell am i even here not at all not at all i was i was i
00:51:06.600 honestly was like how the hell is cm punk still here but i was the original yeet by the way you
00:51:13.400 were yes yes when did this happen yeah years ago years years oh man in fact i thought we had put 0.51
00:51:20.980 that in a bulletproof coffin so i thought that was so did jay steal it from you yes and i'm
00:51:25.560 And I'm sending him a season to assist.
00:51:27.420 I'm actually sending him a season to assist.
00:51:29.380 Oh, my God.
00:51:30.460 Not a work.
00:51:31.960 He will be getting a season to assist.
00:51:33.420 And I'm collecting everything.
00:51:37.420 Everything.
00:51:38.000 Well, now he's the main eventer, so.
00:51:39.840 Yeah, that's true.
00:51:40.680 That's true.
00:51:42.720 Let's talk about, like, let's talk about the other commentators in big sports,
00:51:47.760 even under the TKO umbrella, the UFC.
00:51:50.180 Yeah.
00:51:50.540 When you look at guys like Joe Rogan, John Anik, even Daniel Cormier, Bruce Buffer, it's funny.
00:51:58.160 He came on this podcast and he was saying the same thing about how he works out and he's got to stay in shape because, I mean, Bruce goes hard.
00:52:05.060 When you look at guys like this, are you – is it – do you kind of see eye to eye?
00:52:11.340 And is it like a respect that only like a commentator can understand?
00:52:15.260 There is a respect.
00:52:16.220 And one of the things that was really cool is when Joe Tessitore came aboard.
00:52:20.040 Joe is a boxing guy, right?
00:52:21.340 And I've learned a lot from Joe about combat sports.
00:52:23.420 And when Joe came aboard, to me, you know, a lot of people were like,
00:52:28.540 a lot of people love the hire.
00:52:29.420 A lot of people didn't like the hire.
00:52:30.380 But to me, I loved it because I felt like it finally legitimized what I've done for 28 years.
00:52:38.400 We brought a real true life legendary commentator who's called Monday Night Football
00:52:43.140 and college football and everything else.
00:52:44.680 He wanted to work here.
00:52:45.640 yeah he came to us to work here and we brought him aboard and that to me legitimized everything
00:52:49.740 i did so cool and i think there is that um you know i love joe rogan i mean his stuff is
00:52:56.100 he's a he's a scream and yell or emotionally he's like me right yeah um and uh i just think
00:53:01.700 across the board um we commentators are this fraternity because for so many years we didn't
00:53:09.740 get the respect i think that we deserve but now in this new era not only in wrestling but just
00:53:14.520 in life and in the world we're finally getting respect and we're becoming personalities i think
00:53:20.980 i think social media is part of the reason for that you know what i'm saying like you you can
00:53:24.960 build your personal brand and and dude you you have an entrance now yeah it's it's it's some
00:53:30.180 it's usually people actually cheer yeah they cheer they always cheer before the show starts or or you
00:53:35.120 know there's little like pre-shows we did one at the hq man they love you because you're building
00:53:39.660 your personal brand and then you just get to like people just get to listen to you you're you're
00:53:43.840 doing podcasts back to back to back to back to back every week and i think too you know logan
00:53:48.900 the thing about that is the big thing for me is i'm there i'm finally myself like i i think people
00:53:55.360 looked at me as a corporate stooge right for vince mcmahon for so many years and i really was a vince
00:53:59.560 puppet you know i'll admit that and i'll never i would never ever trade that for anything because
00:54:03.880 i learned so much under the man from a professional standpoint but i think in the last few years since 0.97
00:54:08.980 pat came aboard um you know i i've just decided fuck it i'm myself i'm like you know i'm gonna be 0.77
00:54:15.140 sean colthar my real name right i'm gonna be i'm gonna be that i'm gonna be the person that my 0.93
00:54:19.660 friends know the people that when i go have a drink at a bar the guy who's sarcastic and laughs
00:54:23.960 and has fun and loves this business because i really do um everything is given to me in my life
00:54:29.080 uh but it's fun right i wasn't i wasn't um i wasn't aware of how how like down to earth you
00:54:34.860 were oh thanks yeah yeah and am i usually a prick we never really know what to think of you know
00:54:41.620 no i i don't know i mean bro like you literally are like the voice of the wwe for generations 0.80
00:54:47.620 for 28 years and so like i don't fucking know you in my opinion you have every right to be like 0.67
00:54:53.660 dude that's not people's default no i just i don't know we we live in hollywood you still 0.97
00:55:00.500 we meet some yeah we meet some shitty people yeah but the majority but the majority of people
00:55:06.980 are usually they're getting better because they have to but then you have the like and i'll just
00:55:12.840 say it oh i hope you is somebody getting called out i mean i don't know bro this this whole like
00:55:18.760 blake lively ryan reynolds situation oh my god are you filled in on it do you know yeah and they 0.57
00:55:23.500 just seem so fucking out of touch right like they're just not living in reality and like people
00:55:28.180 people lose themselves in in in their own truth it happens in our business yeah yeah yeah yeah 0.74
00:55:33.320 you know people think they come into their stars and then they're gonna leave and be a star outside
00:55:36.700 here it doesn't happen sorry no you know we our product makes you i'm sorry yeah i mean there's
00:55:42.440 very few logan pauls that come into our world and are successful most people get successful here
00:55:46.780 they think they can leave who's well this is cena batista and rock rock yeah this is one of the
00:55:51.040 biggest this is possibly the biggest example of it like it is it is like you like think about it
00:55:56.080 When you talk to people outside of the WWE sphere about what happened,
00:56:00.340 that rumble lesson, speed came up. 0.99
00:56:02.220 What the fuck are you talking about, man? 1.00
00:56:03.900 What are you talking about? 1.00
00:56:05.640 Did you hear about the tariffs?
00:56:07.140 What are you saying right now?
00:56:08.300 90% of the world don't even know what wrestling is.
00:56:10.640 But that 10%, there's nothing like it.
00:56:14.820 So, you know, I think, you know, my wife is the main reason that I am the way I am.
00:56:23.040 She's not a wrestling fan, doesn't watch a product.
00:56:26.080 I go home, and the last thing I talk about is WWE.
00:56:29.160 Really?
00:56:29.840 Never.
00:56:30.720 Keeps you grounded.
00:56:31.280 She was more excited when I told her this morning
00:56:33.040 I was going to do Logan Paul's podcast
00:56:34.740 than she was about anything else.
00:56:36.140 Hell, yeah.
00:56:36.740 And I'm doing Pat McAfee's show tomorrow,
00:56:38.840 and she was more excited about me doing that
00:56:40.700 than anything else.
00:56:41.740 Yeah, yeah, yeah. 0.91
00:56:42.100 But more excited about the Impulse of the R's.
00:56:44.760 More excited, 100%. 0.99
00:56:46.300 Yeah, got it, got it.
00:56:46.740 But she keeps me grounded.
00:56:48.520 She really does.
00:56:49.160 I go home, and I'm with her.
00:56:50.440 But listen, I'm a dude.
00:56:52.180 I was brought up in upstate New York,
00:56:53.540 and I'm in Texas now.
00:56:54.340 i got a ranch and i'm an old redneck like hell yeah i dip tobacco i drink beer and i like my
00:56:59.760 whiskey and last night you know i that's why i always stay away from downtown in these cities
00:57:05.680 like i don't want that scene like me and wade barrett went up to the the bar last night yeah 0.94
00:57:10.300 what'd you guys do just we sat at the bar till 2 30 in the morning just and just talk shit and
00:57:14.040 even talk about wrestling like just talked about life right yeah and it was great it was uh that's 0.70
00:57:18.740 me that's what i want um i'm gonna leave here today and go sit in my hotel room the rest of
00:57:22.340 day right so i don't know about that last part there yeah that what's what are you gonna just
00:57:27.100 gonna just sit there yeah i'm chilling today because we're going up to cleveland tomorrow
00:57:30.260 but what will you do in the room i'll just you know i'll watch i'm back into the sopranos now
00:57:34.440 so you're running this yeah you've already watched it all oh yeah watch this is the third time i've
00:57:38.960 actually greatest series of all time nothing touching the wire is close to i love the wire
00:57:43.520 sopranos is nothing now and i love going back now because even 25 years later it's still timeless
00:57:49.600 I'm re-watching season two of it right now,
00:57:52.820 which, by the way, is potentially the best season.
00:57:54.700 I'm a season three guy.
00:57:56.960 You really, I have to urge you.
00:57:59.300 He's a little bit younger.
00:58:00.520 I'm going to give him a pass on that.
00:58:01.420 No, he's been telling me for our entire relationship.
00:58:05.540 It's the greatest.
00:58:05.960 There's never been a bad episode.
00:58:08.260 My favorite episode is Pine Barrens.
00:58:10.380 Of course.
00:58:11.020 Well, that's the most famous episode.
00:58:12.740 They're saying he was an interior decorator.
00:58:15.640 It's the greatest series.
00:58:16.600 maybe you the problem for a lot of watchers new viewers on it is you do have to invest a little
00:58:22.100 bit in season one yeah i think they they're piloting they're trying to get people excited
00:58:26.080 about the show they're trying new things like what was they had a character in episode one
00:58:29.600 that that went into the store when christopher's order and the food comes back as a completely
00:58:33.740 different character who was that i can't remember i can't remember but but but but how can you not
00:58:38.000 get hooked though with chrissy and tony uh driving the car through the plaza and running people that
00:58:43.580 run that guy one beating the shit out of him remember how do you know i'm hooked on that
00:58:46.360 logan you gotta watch you have to he feels out he feels out of it no i'm more interested in like 0.82
00:58:52.240 beast games you know yeah or like severance severance is great too by the way have you
00:58:56.660 started the second have you started i'm so excited so we're one episode in the second season holy
00:59:00.720 i heard it's even more rich and potentially better than season one season one uh i didn't know if i
00:59:08.420 was going to make it through it initially like the first few episodes same thing with sopranos
00:59:12.080 I was like, I don't know about this.
00:59:14.460 And then, oh, my God.
00:59:16.060 It is the only show where the last episode of season one,
00:59:20.060 I felt like this perfect mix of fully fulfilled
00:59:24.460 in terms of the questions I wanted answered
00:59:26.460 and all the plot holes I needed to fill.
00:59:29.320 But also, I need more.
00:59:31.700 Yes, and it's just happening.
00:59:33.400 And it's like, oh, my God.
00:59:34.200 Wait till you see how season two starts.
00:59:36.160 They waited a while.
00:59:37.840 Three years.
00:59:38.720 Yeah.
00:59:39.780 Because it was that.
00:59:40.840 You know Ben Stiller directed it?
00:59:42.820 Yeah.
00:59:43.340 As far as shows now,
00:59:45.540 comparatively to what HBO was doing on Sunday nights,
00:59:49.040 15 whatever it was years ago,
00:59:51.500 it's that.
00:59:52.020 And then have you guys been watching Succession?
00:59:53.860 Yes.
00:59:54.060 You watch Succession?
00:59:54.840 From what I understand, it's equally good.
00:59:57.220 Unbelievable.
00:59:58.060 And then I just finished American Primeval on...
01:00:01.220 Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. 1.00
01:00:02.940 Violent as shit. 1.00
01:00:03.780 Really? 1.00
01:00:04.200 Really, really good.
01:00:05.060 Peter Berg's just awesome.
01:00:06.000 I'm watching...
01:00:06.840 Maybe you guys haven't seen this,
01:00:08.960 but I'm watching Fallout, which is based on the video game Fallout.
01:00:11.440 Oh, yeah.
01:00:12.180 Beast Games did better than it.
01:00:14.400 Oh, were they around the same time?
01:00:16.120 Yeah, yeah.
01:00:16.920 They had different products.
01:00:18.160 Yeah, I know, but it's still just like, I don't know.
01:00:20.380 I'm proud of my boy Jimmy.
01:00:21.640 My boy Jimmy.
01:00:22.300 Have you watched Beast Games?
01:00:23.200 No, no, no.
01:00:23.800 Give it a shot. 1.00
01:00:24.200 That show is fucking sick. 1.00
01:00:25.880 I gotta tell my wife. 1.00
01:00:26.640 My wife's the one who makes me sit down and watch this stuff.
01:00:29.160 I'm antsy.
01:00:30.580 She's B, I'm A personality.
01:00:32.160 So I'm always like, I'm up five in the morning with the dogs running around.
01:00:35.240 How do you feel about that opposite situation?
01:00:37.140 I mean, it works for you.
01:00:37.780 Oh, my God.
01:00:38.220 greatest thing ever yeah um what i've had to learn though um as i've grown through through my marriage
01:00:44.080 is i because i'm intense and i think it's a lot it's a lot to deal with i think it's why i'm good
01:00:49.740 at my job too right but i think you know and she's so laid back and she's retired now so she's just
01:00:55.020 like i'm gonna sleep till 10 o'clock and i'm up at five with the dogs the gym i've learned to temper
01:01:01.360 my intensity um and i that's just helped like i'm one of the i'm like an ocd guy like i have
01:01:08.040 my calendar right and i got to go through my calendar make sure that everything is checked 0.84
01:01:10.720 off every day you should get the big ass calendar do you have it no i don't there's a big ass 0.70
01:01:14.740 calendar there is it's huge it's a big ass calendar our boy jesse itzler made it and uh everyone 0.52
01:01:19.940 everyone has one you should get one get it online yeah yeah yeah we'll just get we can probably just
01:01:23.240 map out your whole year so so like and my wife's logan logan 20 for 20 okay is that actually true
01:01:30.360 but i won't like so like i go through the calendar she thinks i'm crazy like she's like she won't
01:01:36.900 even look at her calendar whatever just tell me what i gotta do but yeah no i mean that's it's
01:01:40.300 just it's i mean that's why it works do you think you could commentate for the ufc if the roles
01:01:47.280 were reversed i i don't know because i'm you know i don't could i do it yes yeah could i be good at
01:01:53.580 it i'm not sure why it's not storyline driven it's not episodic television um the the finishes
01:01:59.840 aren't predetermined it's a fight right and you've got to know all that stuff it i think
01:02:04.980 my job is much more difficult only because i have to weave in the stories and the characters
01:02:12.740 development i'm not calling just calling a fight it's creative i would agree yeah i would totally
01:02:17.720 agree the real aspect of it is you know better than anybody is how what the misconception of
01:02:24.260 people thinking that okay it's rigged it's um rigged wrong word it's uh it's scripted um to
01:02:30.580 finish we know and they go through what they're going to do in the match people misconstrue that
01:02:35.240 to not think it's physical the you athletes are the most under listen i had a little run back when
01:02:41.180 i was a heel or actually got in the ring terrible terrible what i did but i took bumps right couldn't
01:02:44.680 have been worse than mine dude but watch wrestlemania in 2011 when i had my match with jerry
01:02:50.260 I was in there.
01:02:51.360 I did horrible.
01:02:52.400 I took a kick.
01:02:52.820 Terrible.
01:02:53.260 Worst match ever.
01:02:54.520 But I got my tooth knocked out.
01:02:58.040 Two teeth knocked out.
01:02:59.120 Oh, actually?
01:02:59.740 Yeah.
01:03:00.320 CM Punk, during the day, as I was going over my match with Jerry, because he's a friend of mine,
01:03:04.360 he just decided to run across the ring and give me a knee lift.
01:03:06.480 Well, dummy me, didn't move out of the way, knocked my tooth out.
01:03:08.520 Then in the match, Jerry hit me with a drop kick that knocked my other tooth out.
01:03:11.300 Oh, my God.
01:03:12.200 So I understand how difficult.
01:03:14.080 But like, and that's just taking some simple bumps.
01:03:17.060 I was like, I don't know how people that think, like, look at what Kevin Owens did last night.
01:03:21.400 Dude.
01:03:21.860 He came out of Gorilla.
01:03:24.580 I don't even know if he was, like, fully conscious.
01:03:27.080 Dude.
01:03:27.460 I, this big, bleeding on four sides.
01:03:29.840 I'm looking at Kevin.
01:03:31.280 My only thought was, way to go, Cody. 1.00
01:03:35.340 Fuck this guy. 1.00
01:03:36.420 Fuck him up. 1.00
01:03:36.880 He picked the guy up and he threw him through a table. 1.00
01:03:38.720 That was insane.
01:03:39.120 And the guy turned inside.
01:03:41.040 Everybody's telling me, they're like, those are blood packets, right, Shirley?
01:03:44.160 I'm like, I don't think so, man.
01:03:46.080 And then J.D. McDonough on Raw last week.
01:03:48.120 Oh, no.
01:03:49.000 I thought he was dead.
01:03:49.960 I really did.
01:03:50.700 Michael, tell me about that.
01:03:51.780 He came off that ring, and he hit the desk so hard.
01:03:54.240 It moved our desk back.
01:03:55.120 I seriously thought he was dead.
01:03:57.080 And then come to find out later, he had a punctured –
01:04:01.360 didn't he really hit his head?
01:04:03.340 He had broken ribs and a punctured lung.
01:04:05.680 And he went on and finished the match.
01:04:07.880 Another 10 minutes.
01:04:08.840 Insane.
01:04:09.020 So this is the craziest part about wrestling.
01:04:13.200 Because didn't that happen to you?
01:04:14.500 Yes.
01:04:14.660 You got hurt in the match, right?
01:04:15.440 Yes.
01:04:15.580 i pulled my mcl mid-match like i like like and that was on the on the you know larry right no
01:04:21.940 no no this was in my third match against roman right i remember it like i'm in the main event
01:04:26.140 i gotta show up right also like i got roman reigns across me god damn it wasn't even one of 0.99
01:04:31.120 the big moves no no he was it was on some it's just some stupid shit i'm much more focused on 0.97
01:04:35.540 my mechanics now than i have been before and also i'm gonna protect myself more because like 0.88
01:04:40.060 sometimes like guys are stiff they're not really looking out for you i haven't i haven't wrestled
01:04:45.900 with him yet oh good luck oh my god good luck nah but nah so i'm gonna protect myself a little more
01:04:51.380 but um if you're actually injured you gotta not sell that you're injured unless it's part of the
01:04:59.140 story and then if you are injured you should sell if you got hit in a certain like you have to do
01:05:05.620 the opposite of what's true and for a guy like jd who you know broke his ribs and punctured his
01:05:11.440 lung you're looking at 10 more minutes of match in your head and he did it how tough is that guy 0.97
01:05:15.940 fuck am i gonna do this right it's gotta be all mostly adrenaline at that point well you mean you 0.98
01:05:20.460 look at other sports a guy you know uh what'd you do what'd you say you did with the injury 0.97
01:05:24.640 i tore my mco so when a guy does that in the football field he's out of the game
01:05:28.300 goodbye um you guys have some sort of sick pride that you want to finish these matches when you
01:05:35.420 get hurt it's crazy it's not it's it's it's mad respect yeah but i will i'll go ahead and speak
01:05:43.600 for my guess is the majority of the roster it's not so much like pride and i mean yes it is maybe
01:05:50.420 maybe like 25 percent of it but dude we're dedicated to the product we're dedicated to
01:05:56.420 the product like isn't that amazing dude you can't you can't you can't let this company down
01:06:00.380 you cannot let this you're also i i feel that like fully and i've been here three years i will
01:06:06.520 not fail on behalf of the wwe well that and also for yourself and i think that's why you're
01:06:11.620 successful i think that's why the top level guys and girls in our company are successful because
01:06:15.580 yes they won't fail for the wwe but they also won't fail for themselves yeah yeah true yes you
01:06:20.780 know i i feel like listen i'm not you know i bet you feel the same way i do i'm not to do my own
01:06:27.520 horn but i have failed at very few things in my life well it must be nice which is why i've gotten
01:06:33.240 to where i am today no i really and i'm not trying to be an asshole about it or have an ego about it
01:06:37.480 but i've been very successful in everything i've done from college through my news career to here
01:06:43.340 oh yeah i've made mistakes there's been failures along the way along the way but for the most part
01:06:47.760 i've been pretty successful because i've got this unbelievable work ethic like you do look at the
01:06:53.000 stuff you all do um and that's what drives me like i don't i and you were talking about this
01:06:58.980 earlier 28 years i could be resting on my laurels i could have retired i couldn't assign a new
01:07:03.200 contract if you want to but every day i feel like okay i did i thought i had a great rumble
01:07:09.240 i gotta have a good raw on monday yeah and i gotta have a great raw the next week because
01:07:13.720 if i don't have a good show it hurts you guys it hurts the boys and girls that are in the ring
01:07:17.240 um because you guys are drawing money and you guys are trying to establish a product i have
01:07:21.520 got to be on every single time that i love i love that org related uh sentiment and it's something
01:07:29.080 that in our world we don't feel we're we're on bosses right yeah i mean i mean until wwe it was
01:07:34.820 the same for him it's like dude if i want to do this i'm going to do this if i want to take a 0.52
01:07:38.440 risk in this direction and it fucking fails who cares like it doesn't i i haven't felt that 0.93
01:07:43.500 mentality in a long time it's i'm jealous i'm actually super super it's sick i i tell people 0.92
01:07:49.620 i'm like dude i love having a job yeah i love working for the w we're a family yeah yeah that's
01:07:54.460 so sick we're a family you see it at ringside and you've gotten so i've i've i've really watched the
01:07:58.260 maturation of you over the last few years and how comfortable you've gotten with us um you know like
01:08:02.940 in the beginning it was like you know we didn't i don't especially me like i didn't know how to act
01:08:06.240 toward logan paul i don't think logan paul know how to act toward us and now you've you're part
01:08:10.020 of the family now and it certainly feels like you know like well i'm i'm pretty closed off in general
01:08:14.640 like dude my team is extremely skinny like for the output that we do it there's literally like
01:08:20.500 four or five of us um and i i like it that way because like in general i don't like people
01:08:25.260 right and then over join the club i just i mean like i just don't um i used to relate and then
01:08:31.200 now i'm talking to everyone but no i just i started to like open up a little more and it
01:08:38.420 it takes some time with me but i realize like kind of how similar everyone is backstage yep and i
01:08:45.040 the saying that i i feel like fits the vibe like of wwe is um we're all here because we're not all
01:08:50.460 there yeah that's right everyone's a little it's the island of misfit toys yes and that's what it 0.56
01:08:56.480 feels like everyone's like witty just like fucking with each other like laughing having fun and i 0.83
01:09:00.640 there's a lot of good people in the company to see cm punk having the fun he is today after what
01:09:05.060 he went through 10 years ago it's incredible but like you guys like your chemistry is what
01:09:09.280 is pat and i chemistry there's the introvert and there's the extrovert and that is how it is like
01:09:14.840 with mcafee like i'm like you i don't want to talk to anybody yeah i don't i gotta be polite 0.97
01:09:18.300 obviously but i just want to keep my head down and go do what i gotta do pat holy shit and he's 0.53
01:09:21.680 like that behind the scenes bro i remember when i met him single he came up to me and person he had 0.95
01:09:27.040 a 15 minute conversation with his security guy yesterday i'm like god we gotta go to gorilla
01:09:30.660 he sees it all the time bro he sees it with me all the time craziness but um listen i we have an
01:09:36.140 unbelievable corporate structure the nikon uh paul evek lee fitting those three men have changed my
01:09:42.120 life um uh forever be indebted for them and it's because of that mentality and because of the trust
01:09:47.720 that they put in all of us is that i would go through a wall for them yeah like you and you
01:09:52.100 know you really i mean paul and i hunter and i have been together since day one i mean he gave
01:09:56.660 me a wedgie my first two months here on television that's how ours started right and we've been
01:10:01.160 together forever and he you know paul and i professionally um i mean it's it's just an
01:10:06.600 unbelievable relationship he trusts me i trust him um nick as you know is just an incredible
01:10:11.320 human being i don't know if you've had much interaction with lee yet uh but lee is a little
01:10:15.580 bit yeah yeah yeah lee's a genius he gave me some nice he gave me some nice compliments yeah no we
01:10:20.140 can see it in the product it's and it's cool i think they're also i think the company now is a
01:10:24.260 little, from what I hear, more receptive to the ideas that the talent has.
01:10:29.200 Oh my God. Dude, it's so different. For the most part, our talent are given bullet points
01:10:35.180 for their promos, and they're not really scripted much anymore. I mean, there's certain things
01:10:39.620 you all have to hit because of the storylines, right? So they're able to be themselves. Who
01:10:43.640 knows the character more than you guys, right? That's really important. Putting together
01:10:48.800 matches is now become paul the producers and the talent before it was vince right you know so it's
01:10:58.220 it's really helped the product and people are having fun dude everyone you know you see the
01:11:02.840 locker room now people are having a blast because of themselves and i think it's even more important
01:11:08.060 nowadays too as there is some breakout from the silo that is the wwe being the only platform
01:11:14.140 people have their own platforms yeah so if he's going to go out and tell a story and then he's
01:11:18.520 going to go and put that on his his channels with 25 30 million followers in the channels
01:11:23.040 of course he wants the story to be creatively aligned with what he wants it to be to an extent
01:11:27.100 at least right so it's so it seems like in that respect even the wwe's making all the right plays
01:11:32.660 well and the company was so restrictive for so many years like you know our talent wouldn't be
01:11:37.680 able to go out and you know we had a big controversy over the twitch streams a few years ago
01:11:41.500 you know but now it's everything's open up go be a brand i was a bead the big thing about our
01:11:46.440 company yeah the big thing about our company is we want you as a performer to develop your brand
01:11:53.620 we in fact have people in place in our offices that are helping our talent especially the younger
01:11:58.060 talent development help them grow their brand i feel like i should be on that team you probably
01:12:03.800 should oh i'm trying to get mcafee to be on that team too i think you guys are dude i'm definitely
01:12:07.760 unbelievable examples of people that have just created something like out of thin air really
01:12:15.820 really i mean the stuff that you've created to me um and i and i'll admit again i'm learning right
01:12:21.600 learning over the years of all what you what you all do and i didn't know logan paul at all a few
01:12:26.360 years ago when you came to the company obviously i had to learn more about you and the more i read
01:12:30.220 and it's like i'm just completely blown away with um with what you've created and the same thing
01:12:35.280 with pat i mean you know he's an nfl punter like we always knew he's entertaining especially as a
01:12:39.100 player but to create what he's created he's incredible it's craziness and like i have so
01:12:44.380 much respect for that like um i'm a lifer i'm a wb like i i appreciate the kind words you know
01:12:51.280 see um i want to say one thing about the the jd spot perhaps you could help me understand why he
01:12:56.680 did that i have no idea i i texted him the other day i said dude what are you thinking yeah why
01:13:01.440 did he do that i i texted my match producer shane yep my guy yep oh yeah and hurricane yep
01:13:07.600 you know we were talking about it and i was like shane like this wouldn't have even made it past
01:13:13.120 like the ideation phase like like with the distance but that distance and then the table
01:13:18.480 right there they probably just called in the ring that's probably what they did crazy he's insane 0.76
01:13:23.640 he's we we make fun of him all the time because he's got a big head and stuff he is one of the
01:13:27.740 nicest guys on the planet he's a hard worker yeah very respectful i love jd i've loved him since he
01:13:33.000 was back uh you know in the nxc uk days and yeah jordan devlin and um just a really cool dude we
01:13:38.620 have so many great people yeah dude yeah dude it's it's sick company to work for it it really
01:13:43.460 is you don't always know why shit happens dude look at the donchick uh ad trade last night did 0.93
01:13:48.820 you see that oh my god who knows who knows what people are thinking i actually screamed holy 0.99
01:13:52.380 shit no it's insane like what are you talking about i said donick just went to freaking insane 0.96
01:13:56.200 yeah the lakers insane i heard a lot about that what was going on behind the scenes yeah i was 1.00
01:14:00.200 reading a lot about that 100 yeah not being in shape prime sponsors the lakers so there you go
01:14:04.660 no bro it's it's a really it's a big deal by the way like the prime logo on the mat crazy
01:14:12.080 and now all the logos we've got on the mat like this would have never happened we always we you
01:14:16.780 know i understand i understood vince's perspective that that was sacred yeah um but you know it's
01:14:21.640 2025 you know where uh you know where it makes it a little difficult for talent especially if
01:14:27.320 talent is trying to build their brand the last thing you want in your really cool move pose like
01:14:34.220 is is or you with the title brand is a brand yeah but this is a brand yeah but when but when logan
01:14:40.180 paul is in the ring and this is brand uh oh for me it's fantastic for me it's just gotta be the
01:14:45.420 right brands too like i would want to get my head smashing over a wing stop logo are you serious
01:14:50.220 that's amazing dude that's what we that's all we talked about for the rest of the night last night
01:14:54.540 he wanted to go to wing stop you were talking about the branding thing though right like it's
01:14:57.440 funny like i'm sort of developing my own brand like and i'm not even working on it is it a
01:15:01.940 competitive hydration product no no there are a lot of things i've thought about but no that would
01:15:08.200 be great right and by the way i'm gonna have my new uh michael cole drink on the uh thing no it's
01:15:12.740 just like it's just funny how it just starts to evolve right like i never thought in those terms
01:15:16.980 until i started working with pat and pat's like you're missing out on so much stuff dude all the
01:15:21.160 talent are you know all the talent are everyone should be thinking about how to not just build
01:15:26.800 yourself but how to build businesses long lasting businesses that have impact it's it's it's the
01:15:32.320 next level of conversation and use the vehicle you've been given use the vehicle you've been
01:15:36.540 given i think every every talent in the wwe should be thinking like that yeah and and it would be
01:15:40.800 cool to be on that team to potentially like you have to do that it's it's pretty it's i see it
01:15:46.660 pretty clearly for for some some of the folks yeah i mean there's a there's a lot that could
01:15:50.540 really for sure really be building off on that one last question for me if if there's a future
01:15:55.160 don imus mike and the mad dog i know i'm hitting you in the sweet spot right now watching this
01:16:00.400 right now uh future commentator for the wwe how do they how do they how could they potentially
01:16:07.120 break through into the space in a time where it's very noisy out there do you have any do you have
01:16:10.920 any advice are you just talking about wrestling are you talking about just in general i mean like
01:16:14.960 if they want to get into the funnel it's hard it's it's much harder than it was you know when
01:16:20.380 I went to college in the mid 80s, I, you know, I went to Syracuse, which is hotbed for sports
01:16:25.520 broadcasters. And luckily at the time, you know, there was, you know, four television stations
01:16:31.380 and a couple of cable TV stations and there was no social media. So there weren't a lot of jobs
01:16:37.000 then. So I was pretty privileged to get, I was the youngest announcer ever hired by network radio
01:16:43.560 when i got out of school and so i was i was lucky but now there's so much programming out there
01:16:51.520 that if you want to be a broadcaster you can get in go to school for it work on it get in at a small
01:16:56.880 level and just build yourself you can only do it through reps as you know okay but also how much
01:17:03.000 of it is like the voice because like you're very um listen listenable there's a lot i you know i
01:17:09.240 i did voice training in school and stuff oh yeah but yeah but you have you have the radio yeah yeah
01:17:13.580 you have you listen to tessitore he's an unbelievable voice um that has a ton to do
01:17:18.520 with it it does you don't hear a lot of high-pitched squeaky people doing you know you know
01:17:22.260 wade barrett's got that nice english baritone that just sticks out pat it's you know pat and
01:17:27.120 you know it's just that has a lot to do with it but it's it's experience more than anything else
01:17:31.940 you know it's just going out there and being able to do you know i just i got lucky that i hit news
01:17:37.000 radio at the time when that was if you wanted to be a serious journalist you went to news radio at
01:17:43.100 the time yeah and that's uh and i got lucky and i got to cover on some unbelievable things that
01:17:47.360 really helped shape my life and and then coming into wrestling i at least had a broadcasting
01:17:52.080 background and i had done some sports too i just had to learn this product but i was ahead of the
01:17:56.200 game when i got here which is good how much uh how much more you got in your contract can you say
01:18:00.900 yeah eight years amazing all right well hopefully we ride out these next eight years together
01:18:05.840 michael i do i will hope you're gonna be here that long we need you yeah yeah no i love it man
01:18:10.320 i love it as long as they'll have me and um as long as the fans keep booing yeah you know what
01:18:15.980 listen i uh i'll be honest logan you know and you know just time to you know pat you on the back a
01:18:21.360 little bit um first off thanks for having me yeah i never thought in a million years when i told my
01:18:26.280 kids i was doing your podcast they were like you you're an old man i said yeah but i said i am so
01:18:32.340 excited you don't understand how excited i am to do this um but uh like when you first came aboard
01:18:37.440 like and again i didn't know much about you i learned so much over the years um like i was like
01:18:42.640 oh here's another celebrity guy gonna come in gonna do a match whatever roll my eyes at it yeah
01:18:47.020 you know um like bad bunny he he did well though yeah he did well he's good but uh but then you
01:18:53.800 just like like i i've never i've and i was impressed when pat had his matches like his
01:18:59.660 match was he's incredible my god i was too i was like damn i have never and i'm not just
01:19:06.480 blowing smoke here in the 28 years i've been in this business i have seen all-time greats
01:19:12.320 hall of famers john cena one of my great friends and i believe the greatest of all time because
01:19:16.820 of longevity and how long he's been on top for me though logan i have never seen anyone come
01:19:21.980 into this business and i know you said you wrestled your whole life and everything this is different
01:19:26.640 and I've never seen anybody come in and do what you've done in such a short period of time it is
01:19:31.640 absolutely amazing to me and I and I'm not just saying that because I'm on your show and I've
01:19:36.820 said it on the air it's just I've never I've never seen someone take to this not only the skills in
01:19:44.220 the ring but I'm talking about promos and the way that you manipulate the crowd and just that
01:19:50.080 personality and that are it's different and I've never seen anybody come into this business
01:19:54.320 um uh with that ever before and i'm only getting better thank you that that that makes me feel a
01:20:03.460 way i can't even describe because emotions are a little weird for me they are for me too but i'm
01:20:09.720 starting to get a little more emotional as i get older right yeah it's easier when you say something
01:20:14.040 that is extremely objective and factual well it just it changes that dynamic and i mean it i
01:20:19.860 i seriously mean it about you like i i did not know what to expect uh working with logan paul
01:20:24.360 i don't think anybody did yeah you are completely different than i thought you were going to be
01:20:29.840 intelligent it's unbelievable um but the emotion is as i get older i think i get more emotional
01:20:36.460 and obviously with children yeah it's a very important thing but i don't i think that's the
01:20:43.480 other thing over the last few years of how i have gotten better um at my craft is allowing myself to
01:20:49.140 to be emotional, like Cody Rhodes, for instance.
01:20:51.380 Cody and I, I've known Cody since he was a kid.
01:20:53.520 And, you know, been through all the trials
01:20:56.320 and tribulations with that guy.
01:20:57.440 And when he won at Mania last year, like,
01:20:59.400 I legitimately cried.
01:21:00.460 Like, it was because of what he's gone through, right?
01:21:04.040 I know when John has his last match,
01:21:06.200 because of what I went through with him,
01:21:07.280 it's gonna be a very emotional moment.
01:21:08.920 But I think that helps me with the audience,
01:21:11.200 because it's like, this guy's real. 0.99
01:21:12.580 Like, this isn't fake shit, this isn't scripted, 0.99
01:21:14.460 this is Michael Cole loving not only a product, 0.97
01:21:18.440 people that he's known for his whole life and you want them to be successful and i hope that i'm
01:21:23.720 able to call you know the highlights of your career because i would love to develop that
01:21:27.960 relationship with you yeah where i'm able to be emotional about you winning your first world
01:21:32.120 championship which will happen and stuff like you're winning a royal rumble you winning money
01:21:35.640 in the bank i'd like to be emotional about that and hopefully this is our first step on that road
01:21:39.720 together to be able to do that well so i mean inshallah god willing uh how are you getting to
01:21:46.840 Cleveland uh McAfee's got a private jet why don't you why don't you come on ours instead but I'm
01:21:53.000 doing his show tomorrow they're flying there today yeah I know that's a I heard but yeah 0.99
01:21:58.440 what uh what jet is it uh I don't know what he's got well we got a g5
01:22:02.240 it's a little bigger I gotta call you maybe I don't do you I hope he I hope he has a g6
