00:00:44.800 morning. And I want to talk about three different things I'm getting out of what's happening here.
00:00:49.800 So what was trending on X this morning? Well, Jamil Javani, the conservative MP, was trending on X this
00:00:55.760 morning because he put out a social media post saying he's going to Washington to try to smooth
00:01:00.160 over relations with Donald Trump and the United States of America because he's good friends with
00:01:05.960 J.D. Vance. Here's J.D. without the beard in years past. J.D., of course, vice president of the United
00:01:12.480 States of America. But more importantly, he's the vice president under Donald Trump. And that is
00:01:16.780 important. So what do I learn from this? Well, one, we'll go through them one by one. This is a
00:01:22.140 masterful move by Pierre Polyev, the conservative party, and Jamil Javani. This was set up in advance.

00:02:36.040 negotiating a trade deal with the United States. Now that might sound counterintuitive because I am a
00:02:41.980 principal conservative. He is our Liberal Prime Minister. But the reality is that this is not a partisan issue.

00:02:55.080 future as an independent, self-reliant nation that conservatives and liberals don't need to
00:03:00.460 fight over this at all. In fact, we need to work together. The leader of the Conservative Party,
00:03:05.700 Pierre Polyev, has said as much. He has offered help from conservatives to the Liberal government
00:03:10.500 on this issue. And I'm acting on that. So Jamil goes to Washington. I immediately thought of the
00:03:17.240 Jimmy Stewart movie, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. If you haven't seen it, be sure to watch it. But he
00:03:22.380 goes on to talk about how Pierre Polyev and the conservatives want to be part of a solution here.
00:03:27.640 And this was masterfully done by Pierre. He's said this a couple of times in recent weeks, but he said
00:03:33.640 it on the weekend at the Conservative Convention here in Calgary. Conservatives renew our good faith
00:03:41.780 offer to help the Prime Minister and his government get U.S. tariffs removed and open new markets
00:03:49.280 abroad. We will work with the government in any way we can because conservatives always put our
00:03:55.000 country ahead of our party.
00:03:56.480 This isn't the first time that Polyev said that he wanted to work with the Liberals to create some
00:04:04.360 solutions to problems. He has to set a different tone when it comes to Donald Trump and the United
00:04:09.520 States of America. His tone during the election last year killed him. It's what gave the Liberals
00:04:14.540 their win on April 28th last year. But this is a brilliant move by Polyev, the conservatives,
00:04:20.080 and Jamil Giovanni, who is in this amazing position because he's good friends with J.D. Vance,

00:04:54.800 Canada-U.S. relations after multiple unsuccessful emails to members of the Liberal front bench.

00:05:07.060 in which he offered to collaborate with the Liberals. He sent the first directly to the
00:05:11.480 Prime Minister. I ask with humility, would you please consider how I might be able to help in a way
00:05:16.720 that is constructive and strategically aligned with the federal government's efforts?
00:05:21.280 He CC'd Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc and other key MPs in subsequent emails. He says
00:05:27.700 LeBlanc's staff acknowledged his email and showed an interest in corresponding, but this has yet to
00:05:33.360 result in a meeting. Now, Giovanni, in his little social media post, went on to, in a way, insult some
00:05:41.040 of the people who voted Liberals and Mark Carney for something that happened during the election
00:05:45.080 campaign last year. And here's a short clip. There are people who've been running around this country
00:05:49.660 for over a year now, talking about their elbows, flapping about. I just don't find that impressive.
00:05:58.280 I don't find it serious. I take this issue seriously. And as a guy who went to law school in the United
00:06:06.280 States and has a strong network there, I think I have something to offer to help build bridges of
00:06:12.900 communication between our two countries. And that's exactly what I'm going to do.
