00:00:00.000 Two weeks ago, Maclean's magazine put out a poll saying Canadians are, quote, overwhelmingly
00:00:11.600 satisfied with Canada's COVID-19 response, unquote. According to Maclean's, quote, a little
00:00:18.780 over 7 in 10 Canadians say they are either somewhat or very satisfied with the federal
00:00:23.280 government, unquote. The federal government has been spectacularly awful in dealing with
00:00:29.460 the coronavirus since we first heard about it in early January. Consider that China admitted 1.00
00:00:37.700 on December the 31st that China informed the WHO about a cluster of 41 patients with a mysterious
00:00:46.160 pneumonia. The next day, they closed the Wuhan wet market. On January 7th, China identified
00:00:53.840 the novel coronavirus just days before its first death and released details of its genetic
00:01:00.840 sequencing. Ten days later, the U.S. had its first reported case in Washington state. A
00:01:07.840 week later, U.S. President Donald Trump banned all foreign nationals from entering the United
00:01:13.560 States if they had been in China in the previous two weeks. And the Prime Minister? Nothing.
00:01:19.840 By February 9th, the death toll in China had surpassed that of the SARS epidemic of 2003, which also
00:01:29.280 emanated in China. On February 19th, the outbreak in Iran began. On February 21st, the outbreak
00:01:37.220 in Italy began. By March 11th, the moribund UN organization, the WHO, finally declared a global
00:01:44.840 pandemic. Trudeau? Still nothing. March 13th, the U.S. declared a national emergency. And shortly
00:01:52.880 thereafter, the U.S. issued travel restrictions on the European Union countries and scant days later
00:01:59.760 included the UK and Ireland in that order. Trudeau? Well, not so much. It wasn't until March 16th that the
00:02:08.540 Prime Minister finally said Canada was closing its borders to most people who weren't Canadians. Yet to
00:02:15.240 this day, daily flights from Europe and China continue to come to Canada, seemingly unabated.
00:02:22.860 The Prime Minister said that travelers would be subject to, quote, enhanced screening, unquote,
00:02:29.380 at our airports. It turned out this meant that travelers were given a pamphlet telling them to
00:02:35.580 self-isolate for 14 days. The Prime Minister has since spent more than 30 days sequestered at Rideau
00:02:44.380 Cottage in Ottawa. Well, except for Easter weekend when he traveled to his summer residence at Harrington
00:02:51.220 Lake while telling Canadians to stay home and not use their cottages and cabins. He emerged for 20 minutes
00:03:00.580 or so a day, blinking in the light to announce his latest spending initiative, racking up what was
00:03:07.600 yesterday announced to be an eye-popping deficit of $252 billion. That's up from $26 billion in February.
00:03:18.760 Stunning stuff. And make no mistake about it, the People's Republic of China is responsible for the 1.00
00:03:26.220 havoc wreaked on an unsuspecting world. Whether the virus emanated from the Wuhan wet market or the 1.00
00:03:34.900 Level 4 bio lab in Wuhan, as the President suggested this week, albeit he did not give any details saying
00:03:41.880 he couldn't talk about what he knew. For clear evidence that China is responsible, we need look no
00:03:49.600 further than the government of China closing the Wuhan airport in early January to all domestic travel.
00:03:58.160 They knew that the virus was, at that point, contained to the Wuhan area, sparing any spread within China.
00:04:06.080 But they continued to allow international flights to come and go, thus ensuring the virus spread globally,
00:04:13.040 while the rest of the world was still oblivious. And yet, the Prime Minister and his Health Minister,
00:04:20.400 Patty Hadou, are still supporting the Communist government of the People's Republic of China,
00:04:27.520 and refusing to condemn the WHO for their slow reaction. And yet, 7 out of 10 Canadians,
00:04:34.960 who have been shut in at home, businesses closed, earning no wages, their children's school closed,
00:04:43.760 still think that the federal government have handled it well. For True North, I'm Leo Knight.
