Juno News - Back to normal is now ＂FAR-RIGHT＂？!？

00:00:00.000 Welcome everyone to Ratioed. My name is Harrison Faulkner. Something big has happened to me this

00:00:11.220 week, guys. Something very big. I've had a whole new outlook on life, a whole new shift in

00:00:15.540 perspective. You see, I used to think that returning to normal was a normal thing. Wanting

00:00:19.700 to get back to the life we all lived before the pandemic was something that we all wanted, right?

00:00:23.800 It was not political. It was not divisive. It turns out, however, that in the expert opinion

00:00:27.980 of a very smart, very serious MD, PhD, who also wears a mask on TV, it turns out that wanting

00:00:34.580 to return to normal is far-right and ableist. Who knew? I certainly didn't, and now we both do.

00:00:40.780 Also on the show, in a stunning act of bravery, in a stunning display of political solidarity

00:00:45.320 with workers, the Ontario NDP have launched into a hunger strike, and it's not really a real hunger

00:00:51.520 strike. It's just more one of those classic NDP political stunts that does nothing. However,

00:00:56.720 when I was reading this story earlier on in the day, I stumbled upon something that made me think

00:01:01.540 for just a second, have the NDP pulled off a hilarious political joke on Ontario's Premier

00:01:07.900 Doug Ford? You'll let me know. We'll get into that later on the show, and I want to hear what

00:01:11.100 you have to say about it. And we wrap up the show, as we always do, with the Ratio of the Week

00:01:15.260 award, the only award given out to those in the Canadian political and media space that show true

00:01:20.820 determination, that exemplify what it means to show real grit and passion. You know,

00:01:25.800 the award doesn't go to anyone who doesn't deserve it, and this week it is certainly going

00:01:29.080 to a deserving winner, but you'll have to watch the show to find out. Now, drop a like on this

00:01:33.940 video, and here is your comment question for the show. Under what circumstances would you be seen

00:01:39.300 wearing one of those giant N95 masks in public? You know the ones I'm talking about, like those

00:01:44.420 bird beak looking masks. Under what circumstances would you be seen wearing one of those in public?

00:01:49.760 I'm only looking for the wrong answers, so I want to see what you guys have to say. Let me know

00:01:53.840 what circumstances you'd be seen wearing one of those hideous masks. And if you like what we're

00:01:58.260 doing at True North and you want to help us out, help us help you by donating to us at donate.tnc.news.

00:02:04.760 The link is in the description of this video. All right, let's get into it. Now, like I said at the

00:02:08.880 top of this, I hope none of you are looking to return to normal. You better not be wanting to

00:02:13.180 get back to life the way it used to be before 2020, because if you do, you're actually pushing far

00:02:17.840 right talking points, you're ableist, and you're whatever else the radical left want to throw at you.

00:02:22.800 I'm not joking. The clip I'm about to show you is insane. It's going viral right now. Everyone is

00:02:27.820 making fun of it and making fun of this lady for saying these insane things. What a surprise, 1.00

00:02:32.580 guys. We have another TV doctor masked up telling us that we need to keep our lockdowns going. We

00:02:36.580 need to keep our restrictions longer. Now, before we get into these viral clips and break it down,

00:02:40.840 some context is required. The woman with the mask on talking is Nilly Kaplan-Mirth. She's a doctor,

00:02:46.580 and she's appeared on Legacy Media many times advocating for lockdowns. She is 100% on the side of the

00:02:52.740 COVID zealots. Nilly Kaplan-Mirth is also a candidate for the Ottawa District School Board,

00:02:58.040 so she's running to be a school board trustee in Ottawa. Now, with all that out of the way,

00:03:02.900 watch this insane clip. I want to start, okay, Ottawa, let's start with you. It's become clear

00:03:09.240 that the message from the provincial government is, we're all getting back to normal now, folks.

00:03:14.360 So let's start there. Are we back to normal yet? No. So the language that you use when you say

00:03:21.180 something like normal is a far-right language of anti-maskers, anti-vaxxers, and ableists who

00:03:29.140 disregard the impact of COVID on seniors, on children, on educators, on essential workers,

00:03:37.020 on healthcare workers, on our healthcare crisis. There's nothing normal about getting COVID,

00:03:42.560 repeated infections, children and adults being hospitalized, and long COVID. There's nothing

00:03:49.440 normal about taking away the protections and the proactive measures that we had to help to reduce

00:03:56.500 transmission of COVID, and there's nothing normal about getting rid of any kind of isolation

00:04:02.840 requirements which would have helped to curtail outbreaks in schools, in workplaces, and everywhere

00:04:08.560 else they could go. So there you have it, guys. There's nothing normal about getting rid of

00:04:12.580 isolation requirements. There's nothing normal about getting rid of COVID, says the woman wearing

00:04:17.880 a mask on her own, in her own office. How very normal of Nilly to say that wanting to return to

00:04:25.520 normal is far-right anti-mask, anti-vax language. Far-right talking points, guys. So that all begs the

00:04:32.900 question then, doesn't it? If wanting to return to normal is far-right, if it's the language of the

00:04:38.580 anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers, as she says, and it's the language of ableist people, then I guess

00:04:44.860 we're never going to return to normal if these people had their way. Keep this in mind if you

00:04:49.140 happen to be living in Ottawa, folks. But you see, on today's show, it's not just a one-punch knockout

00:04:53.880 from Nilly here. It's a one-two punch combo. There's a second clip to go with it. Another one going viral

00:04:58.820 because the first one wasn't crazy enough. Check out what she has to say later on in the program

00:05:03.820 about wearing masks. We have the tools to use. We know what we can use. We have masks, and they

00:05:10.440 should be N95 masks. We should be using HEPA filters. We should be improving ventilation.

00:05:15.880 We should be providing adequate paid sick days and encouraging people to stay home when they're sick

00:05:22.100 rather than returning to workplaces. We have all of those tools. They are achievable. They are low-cost.

00:05:27.740 They are effective. It is inappropriate to say that masks are some form of hardship. They are not.

00:05:34.980 They are not cruelty, Matt. They are not in any way restricting people's ability to make friends,

00:05:41.940 to play, to work, to do any of the things. In fact, there are places in the world where even,

00:05:48.420 for example, in Italy, opera singers are on stage wearing masks. There is nothing that you

00:05:54.420 are saying that that is based in science or medicine. What you are saying is based in right-wing

00:06:01.160 anti-mask, anti-vax ideology. I think I'm starting to get it right. Anything that could possibly cast

00:06:06.580 shade on their religious-like loyalty to masks and mandates, anything that could possibly call that

00:06:13.500 into question, is a far-right anti-mask talking point. This feels like I'm kind of getting it here.

00:06:19.040 Also, can't you guys see? It's clearly normal. Masks are normal because in Italy, opera singers

00:06:23.820 are wearing masks. Because of that, we should all be wearing masks too. I wouldn't want to be

00:06:27.940 offside medically with the great Italian opera singers, especially given how healthy they are too.

00:06:33.660 In my opinion, we can make fun of Nilly's comments. We can laugh at her. And believe me,

00:06:37.760 there's plenty of that going on on Twitter right now. Just search up her name. You'll have a good

00:06:41.360 chuckle. But here's the bigger overarching point. Please, please, please, wherever you are,

00:06:46.780 if you're in a rural municipality, or if you're in downtown Toronto, or if you happen to be in

00:06:50.420 Ottawa, make sure you know who's running for your local municipal elections. These roles matter.

00:06:55.620 Your city councillor matters. They have a real important voice in your day-to-day life. And even

00:07:00.320 more so, in my opinion, are the school board trustees. In Ottawa, Nilly has made her point very clear.

00:07:06.500 If you want your child to return to a normal educational experience like you had as a parent,

00:07:11.420 well, that's far right. The Nilly clip goes on, and it's actually very important context.

00:07:16.620 To know, how serious are these people? Are they just making political talking points?

00:07:20.940 Or are they legitimately true believers in what they say?

00:07:24.840 Steve Paken asks Nilly why she's wearing a mask in the interview. She responds by saying,

00:07:31.180 the masks are very important, the science is clear, blah, blah, blah, and that I just had

00:07:34.760 patients in my doctor's office, and COVID is airborne. So, COVID is airborne. She wears a mask

00:07:39.660 every time she's in that particular office, when she steps in, and when she leaves. That's what she says.

00:07:44.660 Watch this clip.

00:07:45.280 In the course of COVID-19, and I don't think we've ever had a guest who kept their mask on

00:07:49.480 during the interview. So, again, without prejudice, I merely ask, how come you're wearing yours now?

00:07:55.740 So, let me explain. So, I'm a doctor. I'm a family doctor. I see patients in my office. I just had

00:08:00.000 patients who are in my office with their babies, and I have more patients coming in this afternoon.

00:08:04.760 COVID is airborne. That means that COVID remains in the air even after you've left the room.

00:08:10.340 I keep my mask on. It is a way to protect myself. It's a way to protect my patients. It's a way to

00:08:15.540 protect my staff and the community. It is what healthcare providers across the world are saying

00:08:21.660 that we should be doing, and it's really not a hardship. I wear my mask from the moment that I

00:08:26.420 arrive in my office in the morning until the end of the day.

00:08:29.460 Oh, Nellie wears her mask in the office in the morning until she leaves at the end of the day. 1.00

00:08:34.520 Hey, well, she sounds really believable there, doesn't she, guys? She sounds like she's really

00:08:38.540 telling us the truth. There's a problem with that. You see, when things go up on the internet,

00:08:41.640 they never come down. They're there forever. And that's a problem for Nellie's comments because 0.77

00:08:46.880 at some point, she decided to break her own commitment when doing an interview on the CBC

00:08:52.800 in her exact same office. Look at this. This is her face free with her beautiful smile for us all to

00:09:01.080 see. Nellie, just smile for us. You don't need to wear a mask on TV. We want to see that beautiful 1.00

00:09:05.440 smile of yours. Here it is. She was wearing a mask in her doctor's office where COVID is airborne

00:09:12.060 and it lives in the air and it's so scary. Well, she obviously wasn't too scared to go mask-free

00:09:17.520 with the CBC. And some people are saying, well, that was before Nellie Kaplan-Mirth decided to run

00:09:23.660 for school board trustee. Very interesting. There she is in her doctor's office, mask-free in all of her

00:09:30.300 glory. I don't know, guys. You tell me. I think Nellie is far better without the mask, right? I think

00:09:36.240 like everyone, Nellie is far better without the mask. We all want to see you smile without the mask.

00:09:43.020 She's not smiling in this photo with the Ottawa citizen, but there she is once again without her

00:09:47.380 mask on in her office. Or how about this one with Global News? In an interview with Global News,

00:09:53.200 exhausted and scared, Canada's doctors call for help to stop online hate without a mask. So the agenda,

00:09:58.680 the TVO channel on Twitter posted these clips of the show and they're getting hundreds of thousands

00:10:03.620 of views. Of course, the mockery is off the charts on these videos. And as it should be, in my opinion,

00:10:09.820 the comments are hilarious. Like this one, alert, alert, the Zuma virus is coming to get us. Wear

00:10:14.540 your mask on Zoom. And this person writes, nice touch with a stethoscope around your neck. You see,

00:10:20.000 it's all very well done up. It's all a good little uniform, a good little act. I'm sure she's a real

00:10:24.620 doctor. Not saying that, but we know guys, we've seen these videos. We've seen these TV doctors

00:10:29.920 do their thing. They, they go on TV with their masks on and their scrubs and they look all really

00:10:35.560 serious. That's what this is really all about. And then this person actually writes a very detailed

00:10:39.860 response as to why these mask mandates are harmful for kids. We've seen the arguments.

00:10:44.200 I'm not the one making them. These have been made by countless doctors online. You can find them

00:10:48.540 anywhere you want. But here's the point. Babies learn speech by watching and mimicking lip movement 0.65

00:10:52.560 of those around them. I have zero doubt that millions of good intentioned, but wrongly informed

00:10:56.560 parents wear masks around their babies. Soon we'll start seeing reports on high numbers of kids with

00:11:01.320 speech impediments. And I wouldn't be surprised if we see that. That is obviously an unintended

00:11:06.100 consequence of all of this. You know, sometimes I read certain things and I just think to myself,

00:11:11.560 has this been written just for this show, just for ratio? And has it been set up just so that we can

00:11:17.240 make fun of it on this program? Because like I said, some things you read are so stupid, so crazy, 1.00

00:11:23.320 ridiculous that, you know, like with fake news Friday, there's some stuff that's just tailor made 1.00

00:11:27.520 for that show. I read this and I thought this deserves to be mocked on ratioed for sure. So 0.93

00:11:33.660 check this headline out. This is from city news. NDP MPPs are going on temporary social assistance diet.

00:11:41.480 So what's going on here is that in a stunning act of political bravery and a stunning display,

00:11:45.600 as I said at the top of political solidarity with workers, a few Ontario NDP MPPs, these are

00:11:52.180 provincial parliamentarians in Ontario, they have decided that for two weeks, a total of two weeks,

00:11:57.440 my God, they're going to go on what they call a social assistance diet. Now this basically means

00:12:02.600 they're spending only $47.60 a week on groceries to assist in their calls to increase the Ontario

00:12:09.780 Disability Support Program and Ontario Works rates. And some of the quotes in this article are

00:12:15.580 ridiculous. So one of the women who's doing this social assistance diet says they're going to 1.00

00:12:20.260 extreme extents here. Quote, we're going to extreme extents here, we think, to highlight people's

00:12:24.560 stories, to be able to raise the focus on what is actual people's reality. We're using our privileges,

00:12:29.380 MPPs, to amplify the voices of those who are simply not heard or not listened to often enough. 0.99

00:12:34.100 So my first thought was, nah, this is just some stupid classic little Ontario political stunt, 0.99

00:12:39.200 this sort of lefty political stunt to try and, you know, make themselves a story and only somewhat 0.99

00:12:45.700 do anything to move the dial. Obviously, they know nothing's going to happen. They're just kind of

00:12:49.280 doing it for political clout and to get attention. And then I read further. And when I read this next

00:12:54.480 paragraph, I thought to myself, well, hold on just a minute here. Maybe this is all just a big stunt,

00:12:59.180 a big political joke that they're putting on to have a good laugh at Doug Ford.

00:13:03.800 The five NDP MPPs are calling on Premier Doug Ford and Social Services Minister Mary Lee

00:13:10.160 Fulton to join them in the two-week diet. Now, I don't want to give too much comedic credit to

00:13:15.340 the NDP here. I don't think they're that clever to come up with a good little jab. But if they were

00:13:19.760 looking to make a funny joke about the Premier, this would certainly be it. Hey, here, join us,

00:13:24.700 Doug Ford, on a $47 a week grocery diet. Join us on our somewhat food strike to protest the ODSP

00:13:32.960 social services. Now, perhaps when the NDP were thinking of inviting Mary Lee Fullerton and Doug

00:13:37.760 Ford to join them on their diet, the intention was different for Fullerton than it was for Ford.

00:13:43.500 Perhaps they're looking out for Ford in more ways than one. They want, hey, you know,

00:13:46.920 they think there should be a good political initiative for Ford, but it might also not be

00:13:50.480 a bad health initiative either for him. You know, join us on this diet, kill two birds with one stone,

00:13:55.960 drop a few pounds, and pick up a few votes, perhaps, from the radical left. Maybe that's what they

00:14:01.700 were thinking. I don't know. Is that teamwork? Who knows? Let me know in the comments what you

00:14:17.840 guys think of this story. I thought, hey, that's a funny little line that maybe people will pick it

00:14:22.240 up. Maybe they won't. But let me know in the comments. Do you really think the NDP expect

00:14:25.200 the Premier to join them on their food diet? Or do you think they're looking out for him in a

00:14:29.120 different way? Here we go. Ratio of the Week time, everyone. We've made it to the end of the show.

00:14:32.580 Now, I've had a thought about the award, the Ratio of the Week award, what it means. And I've come to

00:14:36.440 realize, you know, unlike the awards that lefties hand out, this is no participation prize. Let me

00:14:40.800 tell you, the Ratio of the Week award is hotly contested week in and week out. It's the one award

00:14:46.200 that truly exemplifies the real definition of grit, determination, and skill. You have to be

00:14:52.140 skillful to win this award. And the winner this week is Jean-Yves Duclos, the Health Minister

00:14:56.940 for Canada, Justin Trudeau's Health Minister. And it's not just the tweet. And of course,

00:15:02.360 the tweet itself is what you base the award off. But if you put in a real hard shift in

00:15:06.460 the week and you make it clear you want to win the award, you want to be ratioed by the

00:15:10.340 people, you want the public to make fun of you, well, then you're going to win on the

00:15:14.380 show. So it's not just the tweet that Jean-Yves Duclos is winning the award for this week.

00:15:19.320 It's his entire week's work. He put in an effort. He put in a shift all week. So it starts

00:15:24.420 off with this tweet. He fired this great one off on September 1st. He writes,

00:15:28.920 with fall around the corner, Canada adds a significant addition to our arsenal in the

00:15:32.660 fight to end COVID-19. As of today, the first variant targeting vaccine against Omicron,

00:15:39.280 Moderna's Spikevax by Valant, is now authorized as a booster dose for adults 18 plus. Yay! Just

00:15:47.040 what we wanted, guys. And we all, weren't we all asking for this booster shot? We were all saying,

00:15:51.200 this is what we need. We need it to help us end the fight against COVID-19. So

00:15:55.700 Jean-Yves Duclos, thank you so much. You're doing what Canada wants. And this is exactly

00:15:59.640 what we need. And for this tweet, he got 615 comments to 285 likes. You'd think though,

00:16:05.660 that if it's really what's going to end the fight against COVID-19, you could get more than

00:16:09.400 285 likes, surely. Right? That's, that's cause for celebration. But I guess when you are

00:16:14.480 Jean-Yves Duclos, you learn not to expect too much. But before we go to the comments on the tweet,

00:16:20.460 I want to show you what else Jean-Yves Duclos did this week. Why? The other reason why he's

00:16:25.240 winning the award, because like I said, it's not just the tweet. He put in a real hard shift

00:16:29.080 this week, guys. Here's what else he had to say. A national campaign will start next week.

00:16:36.200 The, the, the title is protection wanes, action is required. Just like a phone battery,

00:16:46.260 your phone battery, your phone battery, you know, wanes, no, needs to be recharged for your

00:16:51.920 back, for your phone to work, to have appropriate power to operate and for your vaccination protection

00:16:58.300 to be effective. So you recharge your phone battery by plugging it to the electricity.

00:17:05.040 You recharge your vaccine protection by taking action and getting vaccination, you know, protection.

00:17:12.720 So that's going to start next week. So it's just like your phone battery. You know,

00:17:16.500 if you don't charge your phone, you won't be able to use it. No calling, no texting for you if you

00:17:20.360 don't charge your phone. So maybe that's what they're getting at. It's just like your phone.

00:17:24.300 Take the booster. Otherwise you won't be able to do anything else. Maybe, or that's just what

00:17:28.700 they're talking about with the protection. But nonetheless, he put that out there and got

00:17:33.120 ruthlessly mocked for that as well. So you combine the ridiculous tweet and then you combine 0.70

00:17:37.120 the, the booster dose is just like recharging your phone. What do you get? Well, 0.94

00:17:40.460 you get the perfect mix. And that of course, all results in winning the most coveted prize in all

00:17:46.380 of Ottawa, the ratio of the week award. Jean-Yves, congratulations, my friend. Winner,

00:17:50.700 Gagnon. This person wrote, is the comms team at Moderna now writing your tweets?

00:17:55.440 This person, that's going to be a hard pass. Had Omicron twice, it's a cold. And this person here,

00:18:01.380 just go away already. It's over, buddy. It's over, Jean-Yves. It's time to hang it up, man. We're done.

00:18:06.620 Anyway, that's going to do it for us this week. Let's see what next week brings. Let's see if it

00:18:10.300 tops the level of craziness we're seeing every single week. We'll have to get to it on next

00:18:15.740 Thursday's show. My name is Harrison Faulkner and this is Reishi.
