00:00:00.000 This week, a Western Canadian advocacy group has rolled out a national campaign,
00:00:15.360 with billboards nationwide and report cards giving Prime Minister Mark Carney a failing grade.
00:00:20.980 Meanwhile, Alberta Premier Daniel Smith has confirmed the province will not enforce Ottawa's gun confiscation program,
00:00:26.960 maybe taking the voluntary comments from the libs to heart.
00:00:30.800 Activists in Calgary are calling for the city to adopt sanctuary city status,
00:00:34.860 but a provincial minister says the idea carries no legal weight.
00:00:38.600 And in Edmonton, the bike lane controversy may be coming to a halt as the city council has voted down a motion
00:00:44.100 which would have stopped bike lanes until further consultation.
00:00:47.280 All that and more on this week's Alberta Roundup.
00:00:49.520 I'm your host, Isaac Lamoureux, and let's dive into that first story right away.
00:00:52.940 So the Buffalo Project has launched a national billboard and digital ad campaign
00:00:57.220 grading Prime Minister Mark Carney's first six months in office, and he's been given a failing grade.
00:01:02.660 The Buffalo Project launched the new campaign on Wednesday,
00:01:05.440 with billboards popping up in major cities across the country and even in Napaian,
00:01:09.660 which Carney represents in the House of Commons.
00:01:12.480 Created in 2018, the Buffalo Project advocates for challenges faced by Alberta and Saskatchewan
00:01:17.780 that are ignored by Eastern Canada.
00:01:19.480 The name stems from when the two provinces were to be named Buffalo before former Prime Minister
00:01:24.440 Wilfrid Laurier split them, arguing that one province would be too difficult to govern.
00:01:29.780 But it hasn't been easy for the project.
00:01:31.780 A campaign spokesperson told True North that the project has been met with overwhelming censorship.
00:01:37.300 They said, quote,
00:01:38.120 The billboard and ad campaign will run for four weeks,
00:01:50.100 and billboards have been strategically placed in Ottawa and the Prime Minister's constituency
00:01:54.200 riding of Napaian to drive home the message that the West refuses to be ignored.
00:01:58.940 Buffalo Project member Herb Pinder said the promises Carney made in March have not materialized.
00:02:04.680 He said, quote,
00:02:06.340 Mark Carney came into office promising aggressive action to build our economy into an energy superpower
00:02:12.040 and shield us from global threats.
00:02:14.260 But six months later, we're still waiting.
00:02:16.600 The West Coast tanker ban, bill C-69, and the emissions cap.
00:02:20.020 Devastating Trudeau-era policies are still on the books.
00:02:22.900 No repeal, no reform, no urgency.
00:02:25.720 He added that the laws could have been at least announced to have been removed in the first week,
00:02:29.940 but instead, Pinder said Western Canada's priorities are being ignored,
00:02:34.120 while investment has stalled and jobs are being lost.
00:02:37.560 He said, quote,
00:02:39.140 Western Canada powers this country,
00:02:41.240 and ignoring its needs puts our national economy at risk.
00:02:44.360 Time is short.
00:02:45.240 The moment is now.
00:02:46.160 We can't wait another six months.
00:02:48.440 Report on Carney.ca provided four separate report cards,
00:02:52.040 and let's dive into them right away.
00:02:53.940 Starting with the joint asks from Alberta and Saskatchewan,
00:02:56.860 the project covered five variables.
00:02:58.960 Repeal the Impact Assessment Act, bill C-69, F.
00:03:03.040 Repeal the emissions cap, F-.
00:03:05.260 Scrap or amend the clean electricity regulations, F-.
00:03:08.780 Create trade and energy corridors, C.
00:03:11.460 The project said Carney has made some announcement, at least,
00:03:14.120 despite not really doing anything,
00:03:15.960 but they added that his list of approved projects, of course,
00:03:18.440 did not include a pipeline.
00:03:20.620 Lastly, give power over the industrial carbon tax to the provinces, F-.
00:03:25.020 And the next report card was on Alberta-specific asks,
00:03:28.040 which had three variables.
00:03:30.380 Repeal the single-use plastic span, F.
00:03:32.740 Repeal the net zero vehicle mandate, C.
00:03:35.760 Of course, we know it's been paused for this year, but not repealed.
00:03:39.220 And then, repeal legislation that censors energy companies, F-.
00:03:42.680 Alberta Premier Daniel Smith previously issued nine demands for Carney to accomplish in his first six months in office,
00:03:49.840 to what she called, quote,
00:03:51.300 avoid an unprecedented national unity crisis.
00:03:54.740 And Smith gave Carney half a year to implement the demands,
00:03:56.900 but the Prime Minister has not followed through on any of them.
00:03:59.760 One of Smith's demands was for Carney to eliminate the oil and gas emissions cap,
00:04:03.760 which critics have called a production cap,
00:04:05.720 and a motion to eliminate this cap was actually voted against on Tuesday,
00:04:09.560 with only Conservative MPs voting in support.
00:04:12.060 While Carney got a C on his Alberta report card for pausing the EV mandate,
00:04:15.640 he only received Ds and Fs for Saskatchewan's demands.
00:04:19.300 We'll go through them now.
00:04:20.140 Negotiate with China to remove tariffs on canola, F.
00:04:23.180 Reform the broken bale system, D.
00:04:25.480 Stop trying to collect the carbon tax on home heating, D.
00:04:28.880 Improve the investment climate and accelerate project approvals, D+.
00:04:32.260 Improve pipeline and port capacity, D.
00:04:35.520 But the project also graded Carney on a national basis,
00:04:38.580 which covered three variables,
00:04:40.220 first being economy, D-,
00:04:42.160 fiscal responsibility and inflation, F.
00:04:45.520 Leadership and accountability, D.
00:04:47.380 The Buffalo project also provided a press release to True North.
00:04:50.840 It said, quote,
00:04:52.040 Six months in, Western Canadians are still waiting for real action from the Prime Minister.
00:04:57.040 Mark Carney promised a different approach from Justin Trudeau,
00:04:59.580 who spent a decade suppressing Western Canada,
00:05:02.120 but we're not seeing the urgent measures that we need to kickstart Canada's economy.
00:05:06.340 The project argues that demands from Alberta and Saskatchewan
00:05:08.880 are critical to the country's economic survival.
00:05:11.900 It said, quote,
00:05:13.120 Western Canada has the resources to fuel the entire nation,
00:05:16.300 which could make Canadians less vulnerable to tariff and supply chain threats.
00:05:21.280 The Buffalo project urges all Canadians to review the report card
00:05:24.400 and ask whether this government is truly delivering for the entire country.
00:05:28.180 The time for action is now, and Western Canada will not be ignored.
00:05:31.640 In fact, one of the billboards can actually be seen in Calgary right now.
00:05:35.140 But for our next story, we'll hop over to Alberta
00:05:36.880 standing up against the Liberals' firearm confiscation program.
00:05:40.540 Premier Daniel Smith has confirmed Alberta will not enforce Ottawa's firearms confiscation program.
00:05:45.680 She said, quote,
00:05:46.880 Alberta's government will not be cooperating with this gun grab
00:05:49.940 against law-abiding firearms owners.
00:05:52.140 We expect law enforcement to focus their time and resources
00:05:54.880 on real provincial policing priorities,
00:05:57.540 like policing violent criminals, not hunters and sport shooters.
00:06:00.920 The quote originally came from a Tuesday joint statement
00:06:03.420 from Alberta's Minister of Justice, Mickey Amory,
00:06:05.920 and Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services, Mike Ellis.
00:06:09.600 The two ministers clarified that Alberta has already taken steps
00:06:12.600 to limit the reach of the program, including blocking municipalities
00:06:15.880 from creating patchwork firearms bans
00:06:17.920 and requiring anyone who seizes, stores, or destroys firearms in Alberta
00:06:21.880 to be licensed through the Chief Firearms Officer.
00:06:25.280 They added that they would also continue to advocate
00:06:27.500 for legal firearms owners in Alberta
00:06:29.540 and their right to own, collect, and use firearms
00:06:32.080 for hunting and sports shooting.
00:06:33.900 The announcement follows weeks of contradictions in Ottawa's messaging.
00:06:37.240 Public Safety Minister Gary Ananda Sangri
00:06:39.300 has repeatedly called the buyback voluntary,
00:06:42.340 even as he and other Liberals confirmed
00:06:44.040 that Canadians who fail to surrender their firearms
00:06:46.320 once the amnesty expires will be considered criminals
00:06:48.920 under federal law.
00:06:50.560 In a recently leaked audio, Ananda Sangri privately admitted
00:06:53.780 he doubted police had the resources to enforce the plan.
00:06:57.160 He told the tenant of one of his rental properties
00:06:59.040 that he would bail him out of jail if he were arrested.
00:07:01.720 Ananda Sangri tried to dismiss the remarks
00:07:03.540 as a bad attempt at humor only a day later.
00:07:06.220 But Alberta officials said the contradiction shows
00:07:08.880 Ottawa itself knows the plan is unworkable.
00:07:11.940 The two Albertan ministers said,
00:07:13.320 The federal minister of public safety said himself
00:07:16.500 that he doesn't think the police can properly enforce the program
00:07:19.120 and acknowledged that the Ontario Provincial Police
00:07:21.640 will not enforce the program in that province.
00:07:24.360 Further, the minister has made it very clear
00:07:26.520 that they are only keeping this program
00:07:28.200 to satisfy Liberal voters in Quebec.
00:07:30.460 Alberta Premier Danielle Smith had already promised
00:07:32.780 to use every power available to her government
00:07:34.920 to defend firearm rights
00:07:36.420 and fight the Liberals' gun confiscation scheme.
00:07:39.480 Smith similarly said that her government
00:07:41.140 has told sheriffs and municipal police
00:07:43.140 that anyone wanting to participate
00:07:44.840 in the confiscation scheme
00:07:46.640 will require a permit from the justice minister,
00:07:49.180 but that none would be provided.
00:07:51.120 She also explained previously
00:07:52.600 that her province is within its jurisdictional right
00:07:54.840 to legislate firearms.
00:07:56.140 She said,
00:07:56.700 We're working right now on what a legislative framework
00:07:59.680 for an Alberta firearms license would look like.
00:08:02.120 We're going to fight it out
00:08:03.140 because property and civil rights are our jurisdiction.
00:08:06.120 Additionally, she sent a mandate letter
00:08:08.020 to the minister of justice on Thursday
00:08:09.780 tasking him with, quote,
00:08:11.480 protecting rights and freedoms
00:08:12.700 by defending Albertans' right
00:08:14.280 to lawful firearm ownership and self-defense,
00:08:17.140 introducing free speech protections
00:08:18.660 for provincially regulated professionals,
00:08:20.740 and supporting academic freedom
00:08:22.540 in post-secondary institutions.
00:08:24.620 The letter also pledged
00:08:25.820 to fight against federal overreach of Bill C-69,
00:08:28.600 the emissions cap,
00:08:29.660 clean electricity regulations,
00:08:30.980 the tanker ban,
00:08:31.740 the industrial carbon tax,
00:08:32.860 the plastics ban,
00:08:33.940 the censorship law,
00:08:34.940 Bill C-59,
00:08:36.380 fertilizer regulations,
00:08:37.600 and the EV mandate.
00:08:38.780 It also vowed
00:08:39.880 to provide greater oversight
00:08:41.300 and safeguards
00:08:42.040 with medical assistance in dying
00:08:43.500 and prohibiting it
00:08:44.440 when it is based solely
00:08:45.560 on a mental illness.
00:08:47.240 Ellis and Amory said
00:08:48.100 Ottawa should abandon the program,
00:08:50.100 which has a $742 million budget cap
00:08:52.960 despite costs
00:08:53.820 expected to come closer
00:08:54.980 to $2 billion.
00:08:56.860 The joint release
00:08:58.060 from the ministers reads,
00:08:59.260 quote,
00:08:59.440 The Liberal government
00:09:00.680 should end this program,
00:09:01.860 which will waste
00:09:02.320 over $700 million
00:09:03.580 and counting
00:09:04.620 and directly attack firearms owners
00:09:06.380 and instead prioritize measures
00:09:08.140 that will actually
00:09:08.880 keep Canadians safe.
00:09:10.220 The Federal Conservatives
00:09:11.120 have also started a petition
00:09:12.340 to fire Ananda Sangri
00:09:13.580 for attacking legal gun owners
00:09:15.060 while crime soars.
00:09:16.740 But for our next story,
00:09:17.760 we'll move to something
00:09:18.480 a bit more local.
00:09:20.080 In Calgary,
00:09:21.280 activists are pushing
00:09:22.140 for the city
00:09:22.700 to be declared
00:09:23.360 a sanctuary city,
00:09:24.540 but the push
00:09:25.300 has been met
00:09:25.720 with opposition
00:09:26.380 from Alberta's
00:09:27.100 municipal affairs minister
00:09:28.240 who says the idea
00:09:29.180 carries no legal weight.
00:09:31.180 In a letter
00:09:31.560 to Calgary's
00:09:32.200 mayor and city council
00:09:33.040 obtained by Global News,
00:09:34.620 Queer Citizens United
00:09:35.700 urged the city
00:09:36.620 to declare itself
00:09:37.440 a sanctuary for queer rights
00:09:39.040 by refusing to comply
00:09:40.680 with provincial policies
00:09:41.740 that restrict
00:09:42.260 transgender healthcare,
00:09:43.580 mandate parental consent
00:09:44.760 for pronoun changes
00:09:45.680 in schools,
00:09:46.500 and ban biologically male athletes
00:09:48.380 from competing
00:09:49.040 in female sports.
00:09:50.520 Victoria Buchholz,
00:09:51.960 aka Carla Marks,
00:09:53.300 of Queer Momentum
00:09:54.140 called the move
00:09:54.780 unprecedented but necessary
00:09:56.360 she cited
00:09:57.220 a huge uptick
00:09:59.200 in hate crime incidences
00:10:00.640 specifically targeting
00:10:02.340 the queer and trans communities.
00:10:04.340 Municipal Affairs Minister
00:10:05.480 Dan Williams
00:10:06.180 rejected the notion outright,
00:10:08.040 drawing a comparison
00:10:08.840 to American politics.
00:10:10.640 He said,
00:10:12.080 The notion of sanctuary cities
00:10:13.500 is a fabricated import
00:10:15.020 of American politics
00:10:16.000 and has zero legal force
00:10:17.460 of law in Alberta.
00:10:18.780 He stressed that municipalities
00:10:19.900 are bound by provincial law
00:10:21.440 and warned that cities
00:10:22.280 could not legally defy
00:10:23.800 directives from the legislature.
00:10:25.820 Williams said,
00:10:26.360 Municipalities in Alberta
00:10:28.460 are required to adhere
00:10:29.860 to provincial laws
00:10:30.640 and I expect
00:10:31.440 the city of Calgary
00:10:32.480 will do so.
00:10:33.760 You might remember
00:10:34.460 Boo Colts
00:10:35.540 because she of course
00:10:37.540 became renowned
00:10:38.320 for meeting with
00:10:39.000 Alberta MLA
00:10:40.020 Jennifer Johnson
00:10:40.940 where the trans activists
00:10:42.720 berated the politician
00:10:44.140 for refusing to accept
00:10:45.320 her assertion
00:10:46.060 that transgender women
00:10:47.080 were women,
00:10:48.200 refusing even to agree
00:10:49.480 to disagree.
00:10:50.620 The interaction,
00:10:51.420 of course,
00:10:51.780 caught global attention
00:10:52.800 with J.K. Rowling
00:10:53.900 sharing the clip
00:10:54.600 and Elon Musk
00:10:55.700 reacting to it.
00:10:56.840 Williams added
00:10:57.400 that the government's
00:10:58.200 legislation is intended
00:10:59.420 to quote,
00:11:00.200 protect and preserve
00:11:01.120 children and youth
00:11:02.120 from potentially irreversible
00:11:03.660 decisions,
00:11:04.540 keep young women
00:11:05.240 in sports safe,
00:11:06.660 strengthen parental rights,
00:11:08.040 and ensure books
00:11:08.920 with graphic pornographic
00:11:10.020 images do not
00:11:11.120 end up in the hands
00:11:12.100 of children.
00:11:12.640 In the United States,
00:11:14.280 sanctuary city policies
00:11:15.400 are often used
00:11:16.400 to limit cooperation
00:11:17.540 with federal
00:11:18.140 immigration enforcement.
00:11:19.400 In 2018,
00:11:20.960 Edmonton City Council
00:11:21.980 similarly approved
00:11:23.040 a sanctuary status
00:11:24.040 to aid illegal immigrants.
00:11:26.600 Meanwhile,
00:11:27.540 Alberta is preparing
00:11:28.260 to invoke the Charter's
00:11:29.340 Notwithstanding Clause
00:11:30.460 to protect three
00:11:31.480 transgender-related laws
00:11:32.860 from court challenges.
00:11:34.240 Using the Notwithstanding Clause
00:11:35.580 for the legislation
00:11:36.420 follows Smith's issuing
00:11:37.440 of various new
00:11:38.400 mandate letters,
00:11:39.220 one of which was sent
00:11:40.280 to Tourism and Sports Minister
00:11:41.980 Andrew Boychenko
00:11:43.160 and instructed him
00:11:44.380 to use every legal
00:11:45.500 and constitutional option
00:11:46.700 at his disposal
00:11:47.600 to enforce Alberta's
00:11:48.760 new sports law.
00:11:50.080 The new legislation
00:11:50.840 requires any athletes
00:11:52.040 12 years of age
00:11:53.180 or older to confirm
00:11:54.220 they were female sex
00:11:55.180 at birth with parental
00:11:56.680 consent required
00:11:57.580 for minors.
00:11:58.900 These females will be
00:11:59.760 able to compete
00:12:00.260 in female-only sports
00:12:01.680 leagues free of intrusion
00:12:03.220 of men pretending
00:12:04.360 to be women.
00:12:05.500 The Tourism and Sport
00:12:06.480 Ministry told True North
00:12:07.500 that it will vigorously
00:12:08.340 defend any laws
00:12:09.540 should they be challenged
00:12:10.560 in any way.
00:12:12.340 A ministry spokesperson
00:12:13.340 said,
00:12:14.760 Alberta's government
00:12:15.540 is working to ensure
00:12:16.660 the full implementation
00:12:17.640 of the Fairness and Safety
00:12:18.980 in Sport Act
00:12:19.860 using all available
00:12:21.160 legal and constitutional
00:12:24.060 means necessary
00:12:25.260 to protect the integrity
00:12:26.340 of our province's
00:12:27.260 female athletic competitions.
00:12:29.600 We strongly encourage
00:12:30.700 other provinces
00:12:31.520 and territories
00:12:32.600 to follow Alberta's lead
00:12:33.820 to ensure safe,
00:12:35.100 fair,
00:12:35.520 and accessible sport
00:12:36.420 for all.
00:12:37.260 So despite the advocacy
00:12:38.300 group's push,
00:12:39.340 it remains unclear
00:12:40.280 what practical effects
00:12:41.440 such a declaration
00:12:42.280 would have
00:12:42.940 given the province's
00:12:44.280 authority over
00:12:45.020 municipal governments.
00:12:46.000 But for our last story today,
00:12:48.040 we'll end with bike lanes,
00:12:49.340 which opposition seems
00:12:50.560 to have reached
00:12:51.060 the end of the road
00:12:51.860 for now.
00:12:52.740 Last Wednesday,
00:12:53.760 Edmonton City Council
00:12:54.660 voted down a motion
00:12:55.880 that would have stopped
00:12:56.680 future projects
00:12:57.600 until more public
00:12:58.800 consultation was conducted.
00:13:00.940 The council voted
00:13:01.960 9-4 against a motion
00:13:03.780 that would have suspended
00:13:04.740 work on projects
00:13:05.680 removing existing
00:13:06.660 driving lanes
00:13:07.400 until a full review
00:13:08.500 next year.
00:13:09.520 City Councillor and
00:13:10.380 Mayoral Candidate
00:13:11.180 Tim Cartmel
00:13:12.180 moved the motion
00:13:12.900 which was seconded
00:13:13.820 by Karen Principe.
00:13:15.380 The heavily debated
00:13:16.400 motion's final wording
00:13:17.720 reads,
00:13:18.300 quote,
00:13:19.040 that all current
00:13:19.800 construction work
00:13:20.660 cease immediately
00:13:21.680 on bike lane projects
00:13:22.860 where a bike lane
00:13:23.620 is intended to be
00:13:24.520 constructed on an
00:13:25.340 existing road
00:13:26.140 where construction
00:13:27.060 has not yet started,
00:13:28.480 pending a complete
00:13:29.180 review of all
00:13:30.040 individual bike lane
00:13:31.000 projects at the next
00:13:32.080 infrastructure committee
00:13:33.060 meeting in February
00:13:33.980 2026.
00:13:35.880 Cartmel,
00:13:36.580 Principe,
00:13:37.140 Jennifer Rice,
00:13:37.900 and Sarah Hamilton
00:13:38.660 voted in favour
00:13:39.640 of the motion.
00:13:40.200 Erin Rutherford,
00:13:42.060 Erin Paquette,
00:13:42.800 Karen Tang,
00:13:43.520 Ashley Salvador,
00:13:44.360 Andrew Knack,
00:13:45.020 Anne Stevenson,
00:13:46.000 Michael Jans,
00:13:46.880 Joanne Wright,
00:13:47.720 and Mayor Amarjeet
00:13:48.580 Sohi voted against it.
00:13:50.440 During the debate,
00:13:51.440 Cartmel said,
00:13:52.380 quote,
00:13:52.920 the city is ignoring
00:13:53.820 residents who will be
00:13:54.680 directly impacted.
00:13:56.560 He pointed to concerns
00:13:57.560 over parking loss,
00:13:58.640 reduced emergency access,
00:14:00.040 and handicapped stalls
00:14:01.080 being removed.
00:14:02.280 He warned the current
00:14:03.140 designs would have,
00:14:04.100 quote,
00:14:04.300 devastating impacts
00:14:05.260 for the people
00:14:05.860 who live there.
00:14:06.680 While construction
00:14:07.240 in the Delta neighbourhood
00:14:08.100 was repeatedly referenced
00:14:09.280 during debate,
00:14:10.020 the petition showing
00:14:10.920 a clear majority
00:14:11.660 of residents opposed
00:14:12.600 to bike lanes
00:14:13.220 that was submitted
00:14:13.780 to city council
00:14:14.520 was not mentioned
00:14:15.420 during the debate.
00:14:16.440 Also happening amidst
00:14:18.160 the debate was
00:14:18.920 councillors argued
00:14:19.740 extensively over the
00:14:20.940 definition of cease
00:14:21.960 immediately and
00:14:22.980 construction had begun.
00:14:24.280 For example,
00:14:24.880 one councillor argued
00:14:25.660 that 75% of construction
00:14:27.440 in Delton was complete.
00:14:28.780 No road has been dug out
00:14:29.920 yet,
00:14:30.260 so that percentage might
00:14:31.260 just simply imply
00:14:32.140 planning, measuring,
00:14:33.240 and painting lines.
00:14:34.700 Principe also highlighted
00:14:35.760 her biggest concern,
00:14:36.820 which was that residents
00:14:37.560 have complained to her
00:14:38.300 daily,
00:14:38.820 about bike lanes
00:14:40.020 set for construction
00:14:40.780 on 132nd Ave
00:14:42.360 between 82nd and 97th Street,
00:14:44.720 primarily in school zones.
00:14:46.620 A few weeks before the vote,
00:14:47.620 Transportation Minister
00:14:48.460 Devin Dreschen
00:14:49.100 met with Delton residents
00:14:50.080 to discuss their
00:14:50.880 widespread opposition.
00:14:52.120 He said SOHI's
00:14:52.920 consultations on bike lanes
00:14:54.120 involved less than 1%
00:14:55.480 of the population
00:14:56.380 and were not community-specific.
00:14:58.200 Dreschen said he was
00:14:58.940 drafting legislation
00:14:59.860 to amend the Traffic Safety Act
00:15:01.480 to force municipalities
00:15:02.600 to conduct impact assessments
00:15:04.140 while implementing bike lanes
00:15:05.340 that replace driving roads.
00:15:06.560 He also said that he hoped
00:15:07.920 the upcoming municipal election
00:15:09.240 would see bike lanes
00:15:10.140 as a determining factor.
00:15:12.420 Upcoming mayoral candidates
00:15:13.500 have generally expressed
00:15:14.580 displeasure with bike lanes.
00:15:16.060 However,
00:15:16.440 NAC,
00:15:17.120 a mayoral candidate
00:15:17.960 for the next election,
00:15:18.940 voted against the motion.
00:15:20.980 And despite not being
00:15:21.700 at the debate,
00:15:22.720 as he is not currently
00:15:23.580 in city council,
00:15:24.640 mayoral candidate Raheem Jaffer
00:15:26.220 has vowed to stop
00:15:27.120 the expansion of bike lanes
00:15:28.320 if he is elected.
00:15:29.940 With the city planning
00:15:31.080 to fast-track construction
00:15:32.300 before the election
00:15:33.180 and winter,
00:15:34.380 a future council
00:15:35.220 might have to tear out
00:15:36.440 the projects
00:15:36.940 that cost millions to install
00:15:38.440 if they choose
00:15:39.160 to position themselves
00:15:40.100 against the bike lanes.
00:15:42.040 Chris Sims,
00:15:42.740 the Alberta director
00:15:43.520 for the Canadian
00:15:44.320 Taxpayers Federation,
00:15:45.780 previously told True North
00:15:46.900 that $100 million
00:15:48.020 is dedicated
00:15:49.040 to Edmonton's
00:15:49.820 bike lane infrastructure
00:15:50.880 between 2023 and 2026,
00:15:54.060 which costs $11 million
00:15:55.740 per year to maintain.
00:15:57.780 In the debate,
00:15:59.100 Cartmel said,
00:16:00.040 quote,
00:16:00.100 That wraps up
00:16:10.680 this week's Alberta Roundup.
00:16:12.120 My name's Isaac Lamoureux.
00:16:13.400 Have a great weekend.
00:16:14.400 Thank you,
00:16:14.980 and God bless.
