00:00:00.000 It's quite remarkable to see that the story of Chinese tennis star Peng Shuai might do more
00:00:13.280 to open regular people's eyes about what's really going on with the Chinese Communist Party regime,
00:00:18.920 the authoritarian regime under Xi Jinping, than really any technical analysis, any deep dive,
00:00:24.680 any foreign policy, foreign affairs study could ever do. You know, I've previously urged
00:00:29.880 that people need to see what's really going on in Chinese Communist Party authoritarian structures,
00:00:35.380 read what Xi Jinping is writing, listen to what he's actually saying, look at different reports
00:00:40.080 about things that have transpired in the upper echelons of this regime in recent years,
00:00:44.400 check out a notorious document number nine, as it's called. This is a document that was circulated
00:00:49.900 among senior public servants not long after Xi Jinping came to power almost a decade ago,
00:00:54.880 where they say things like human rights, press freedom, and independent judiciary.
00:00:59.880 That's not how we roll here. We're not going to do these things, don't get big ideas
00:01:03.660 about all of those concepts out there. We're going to step away from those. And if you appreciate
00:01:08.520 what's going on there in that document, you can understand why we have so many of the problems
00:01:12.820 we have with China today. And by all means, yes, please keep reading those documents,
00:01:18.040 keep having those discussions. But the issue around this tennis star, this is really, really going
00:01:23.260 international in a way that people are not turning away from. And it's something that people can very
00:01:29.040 easily understand. A couple weeks ago, she posted to social media that she had been sexually assaulted
00:01:34.480 by a former vice premier from the Chinese Communist Party, a top level politician. 30 minutes after that
00:01:40.840 post went up on social media, it was removed. Traditional media, social media, television,
00:01:46.100 it's all been censored in China. In fact, CNN did a live broadcast showing how their discussion of this
00:01:52.100 issue was simultaneously actually being blurred off in China live at that moment. That they just watch television
00:02:00.180 and then censor it that very moment. So they are doing that with social media about the accusations that this
00:02:05.760 girl made. And then there are questions about had she been disappeared? What are her whereabouts? A couple photos
00:02:12.300 were leaked of her seemingly out and about. And there was one conversation that she did have with someone
00:02:17.700 connected to the Olympics. And this is enabling China to say, no, there's nothing to see here, folks.
00:02:22.480 There are no concerns. But the White House has already said, this is not enough. We are concerned.
00:02:27.200 The United Nations is speaking about it. This is a real issue here. Someone makes an accusation like this
00:02:33.340 that, of course, we take very seriously. And when those things happen here in the Western world, we
00:02:37.860 investigate those accusations, hopefully in independent courts and with police involved and so on.
00:02:43.820 There in China, it looks like it's scrubbed, it's removed, it's suppressed, and perhaps the person
00:02:49.540 making the allegations has been disappeared. And now there are a lot of questions of what we do moving
00:02:55.320 into the Olympics. Questions about the safety of athletes. Questions about, well, everything that's
00:03:01.280 going on right now when it comes to the freedom of individuals in China right now under the authoritarian
00:03:07.820 regime of Xi Jinping. So, well, yes, we got to talk about all the other reports on the ground
00:03:13.660 and everything that's going on there. It's quite something that this unfortunate story, this
00:03:18.920 is something that's really opening people's eyes more than ever to some of the awful undercurrents
00:03:24.480 that are going on right now with the Chinese Communist Party.
