00:00:00.000
Would you go to the U.S. right now?
00:00:08.660
If you could, it's a conversation that more and more Canadians are having amongst each other.
00:00:13.420
I posted to Twitter the other week that I knew more and more people who were browsing around for U.S. real estate.
00:00:19.240
Ontarians in particular.
00:00:20.940
Ontario was under quite harsh lockdown then.
00:00:23.380
Still is right now.
00:00:24.720
And since then, other regions have faced tighter restrictions.
00:00:27.240
Alberta, for instance.
00:00:28.760
Rules tightening there.
00:00:30.000
More and more Canadians looking at what's happening in the United States and saying,
00:00:33.500
hey, things don't look too bad over there.
00:00:35.700
They're taking much more of a balanced approach.
00:00:38.040
Per capita, some of the states still have greater cases than we have here in Canada,
00:00:42.060
but the restrictions are lighter.
00:00:43.880
For instance, Michigan and Ontario, they have a pretty similar third wave
00:00:47.680
in terms of the trajectory of the cases going up and them going down as well,
00:00:51.720
which they're doing right now in both Michigan and Ontario.
00:00:54.940
Yet in Michigan, the schools have remained open the entire time for in-class learning,
00:00:59.040
yet in Ontario, they have shut down the schools.
00:01:02.260
So more and more people are having these conversations about,
00:01:05.100
wow, I kind of wouldn't mind going to the U.S.
00:01:07.380
I mean, here in Canada, in some jurisdictions, they say, well, maybe there won't be, you know,
00:01:12.040
children's outdoor soccer leagues for small kids second year in a row.
00:01:16.200
Meanwhile, in the U.S., they're getting stuff ready for all of that.
00:01:19.460
So people are talking amongst themselves about, well, we'll be able to go to, you know,
00:01:22.880
upstate New York, for instance, from Ontario.
00:01:25.000
Can we rent a cabin there or rent a vacation property?
00:01:28.300
We'd love to be able to do stuff like that.
00:01:30.420
Well, I think some American politicians are getting wind that there's maybe a great economic play for them.
00:01:35.400
Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer, he actually gave press conferences the other day
00:01:39.800
calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to stop reissuing every month these border closures
00:01:45.580
and work to get the border reopened as quickly and safely as possible.
00:01:51.560
He wants to see the border opened again for non-essential travel.
00:01:55.080
Now, he wasn't saying completely open things, no restrictions.
00:01:57.920
He had a bunch of qualifiers that were put in there to sort of get things started and get the ball rolling.
00:02:02.740
But bottom line, you have this prominent Democratic Senator, not the governor of Texas or Florida or what have you,
00:02:09.560
but a Democratic Senator who's saying, look, we got to get the border reopened.
00:02:15.160
And that's really going to get the conversation going as people in New York State and other states say,
00:02:19.860
yeah, we want to get that border open.
00:02:21.700
A lot of trade, a lot of economic issues going on, a lot of family visits and so forth happening because of that border.
00:02:29.120
And I think you're going to hear a lot more people say, yes, I'd like to see that happen.
00:02:32.480
You're going to hear a lot of people say, no, I don't want to travel at all.
00:02:34.840
I don't want to cross the border.
00:02:36.040
And of course, that is their right.
00:02:37.880
Just because the border is open does not mean you have to do it.
00:02:40.980
Just because travel is allowed or any other thing is allowed doesn't mean you have to take that opportunity for yourself.
00:02:47.740
But as we're seeing, whether it's Chuck Schumer or just parents in Ontario talking amongst each other,
00:02:53.280
there's a whole lot of appetite to, I think, increase the opportunities for people to get out there and do much more,
00:03:00.240
even if it means cross-border opportunities.
00:03:03.000
Thank you so much.
00:03:07.820
So...
00:03:08.180
Let's have a look.
00:03:14.300
Let's look.
00:03:15.980
We are looking.
00:03:17.220
We are looking forward to seeing a few pastries.
00:03:22.340
Now...
00:03:23.860
The 1stì°¨-1.
00:03:24.760
Now we have a look like this.
00:03:26.240
We are looking forward imposed by Your interests.
00:03:27.980
