Juno News - Why is there a surge of support for the PPC？

A surge in support for the People s Party of Canada among the electorate? Is this something that's actually happening? Is there something of a surge going on for the party? And why is it happening? In this episode, I discuss the phenomenon and offer some theories as to what's going on and why it's happening.

00:00:00.000 a surge in support for the People's Party of Canada among the electorate with just a week

00:00:09.280 left to go before the election before the official date is that something that's actually happening

00:00:14.700 right now well a number of analysts and pollsters are currently looking at the numbers breaking it

00:00:19.800 down debating it all and it does seem like yes there is something of a surge going on

00:00:24.280 for Maxime Bernier's party one pollster putting them at about 10% support others putting it

00:00:30.140 lower than that but regardless all of the numbers faring much better than they fared in 2019 which

00:00:36.180 was the first time that was an official party on the ballot and in many of these polls faring better

00:00:41.940 than the Green Party of Canada we're used to things in Canada being fairly static in terms of the parties

00:00:48.500 we look at and the machinations of where they're at and who's going up and who's going down and so

00:00:53.240 forth so just to see this happen I think is it is a bit of a bit of an outlier a bit of a curiosity

00:00:59.640 piqued a lot of people's interest to say what's going on here what's really happening and I think

00:01:04.500 a lot of people are curious to see how it will unfold so why is this happening well I have a

00:01:09.500 pretty basic theory when you look at all of the leaders of the federal political parties Maxime

00:01:14.280 Bernier is the only one who has taken an opposing stance towards a number of the pandemic measures that

00:01:20.280 have unfolded in Canada this past year and a half now polls have showed that the majority of Canadians

00:01:24.940 support pretty much everything that's been done lockdowns vaccine passports you look at the numbers

00:01:30.840 and yes a majority actually have supported them but there's only been one party one political leader

00:01:37.080 Maxime Bernier who has said he does not support those so if you look at people who are opposing this

00:01:43.680 and yeah they're not the majority but there's a substantial minority out there and if this is an issue that

00:01:49.080 they're really passionate about the things that have happened to their lives in the past year and a

00:01:53.240 half that they are not in support of well it's no surprise then if this is almost a single issue

00:01:58.760 voter issue for them that they're going to gravitate towards Maxime Bernier to the People's Party of Canada

00:02:04.040 we'll see exactly how these polling intentions how they actually translate to votes how they break down

00:02:09.000 in different writings but it's just really interesting for long-standing watchers at the Canadian political

00:02:14.060 scene to see something different happen and to watch it unfold and particularly exciting of course for

00:02:21.100 those who are supporters of this party seeing this surge happen will these numbers actually result in

00:02:28.300 numbers that see a substantial gain for the People's Party of Canada last time out in 2019 they got I believe

00:02:34.480 just under 300,000 votes what are they going to hit now are they going to break a million votes if they are

00:02:40.160 polling a couple times higher well we shall see anything is possible it's still a week away but it's very

00:02:46.100 interesting to see that yes the numbers indicate there's something of a surge for support in People's Party of

00:02:51.640 Canada votes right now here during the Canadian federal election
