00:00:00.000 Hi, I'm Candace Malcolm, and this is The Candace Malcolm Show. Today is Friday, March 20th,
00:00:05.560 2026. We have a great episode for you today. We're going to return to doing Fake News Friday,
00:00:10.280 because I saw this one story being pushed by global news, and I had to dive into it,
00:00:14.340 because this is pure fake news. This is how the activist media are destroying our country,
00:00:20.020 are pushing far left, ridiculous ideas, not just the idea that you can't talk about trans issues,
00:00:27.100 you can't like make jokes about politicians, you can't talk about immigration. They all always try
00:00:31.680 to push that kind of thing to try to say anyone talking about those kind of things is beyond the
00:00:35.280 pale, is racist, homophobic, etc, etc. But they also use this bullying tactic. It's totalitarian
00:00:42.200 to try to shut down free speech to say if you're talking about the wrong thing, if you cross the
00:00:46.760 line, you will be cancelled, you will not be able to have a platform, you will not be welcome in
00:00:51.140 polite society. And this is what they do. They act as gatekeepers and bullies trying to basically
00:00:56.420 just bully people into submission so they don't talk about these things. And so this is what I'm
00:01:01.100 talking about. Comedian Ben Bankus. Ben Bankus is hilarious, okay? I've been following this guy for
00:01:05.900 years and years. And yes, his comedy is a little bit risky, right? It's very funny. He makes fun
00:01:13.660 of everybody, literally everyone. I think the thing that I saw that really caught my eye was
00:01:18.940 he'd do these hilarious videos where he'd make fun of Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow. Well-deserved.
00:01:23.020 the worst mayor that Toronto has ever had. One of the worst mares probably in the history of ever
00:01:27.040 in the entire world. Just a pure embarrassment. He would make fun of her. And yes, he would use
00:01:32.020 what you might consider like a racist accent to describe her. He does the same thing with Doug
00:01:36.560 Ford. If you ever see a Doug Ford impersonation, it's the same thing, right? He just, he's funny
00:01:41.480 at accents. He makes fun of people. That's his thing. He's funny. Okay. So this is what Global
00:01:46.280 News BC puts out. Canadian comedian Ben Venkis is pushing ahead with his plan. Kelowna BC stopped
00:01:53.240 despite growing calls to cancel his show. They post this on social media and it just absolutely
00:01:58.320 got ripped to shreds because people are tired of this. People don't like this routine where you say,
00:02:03.940 oh, that person's bad. So we're going to pretend that there's this huge crowd of Canadians that
00:02:08.860 just can't handle him and hate him. And we're going to get him canceled. They did the same thing
00:02:13.000 to Sean Foyt. We covered Sean Foyt, the Christian prayer leader and Christian singer who tried to do
00:02:18.740 a Canadian tour. Then the media decided that he was MAGA and right-wing and did everything they
00:02:24.000 could to have his tours stopped. Many of them were. They successfully canceled many of his tour stops
00:02:28.820 by using this tactic. Well, now they're trying to do it to Ben Benkis, and I think it's backfiring.
00:02:33.700 I think that finally the country has had enough of this. Okay, so I will just give you a quick
00:02:38.680 taste of what a fake news story looks like from start to finish. This has all the elements of
00:02:44.920 fake news. So we're going to roll this global BC news report about how terrible Ben Benkis is and
00:02:50.920 how he has to be canceled. Let's roll that clip. March 19th, I'm coming. Donning a Kelowna Rockets
00:02:56.580 jersey. Canadian comedian Ben Benkis is shrugging off calls to cancel his Kelowna show. Can't stop
00:03:03.120 me. You can't stop me. The Toronto-born comic, now based in Austin, Texas, has built a reputation
00:03:09.540 on controversy. Just got back from Winnipeg. They have like a, it's like the,
00:03:17.800 it's like an indigenous zombie apocalypse. Okay, just stop it right here for a second.
00:03:23.500 I just want to jump in. So the way that they frame it, they show him, they're trying to
00:03:27.520 demonize him. Oh, look at this guy. He's flying on a jet or whatever. He's wearing a Kelowna
00:03:32.500 Rockets jersey as if like you know somehow he's a bad guy with the ominous music playing and
00:03:37.620 describing him as controversial pointing out he used to be from Toronto but he lives in Austin
00:03:41.320 he's a bad guy he's an American whatever like everything about the way they frame this piece
00:03:45.860 is just typical fake news the kind of stuff that we all cringe over they find a clip from a show
00:03:53.640 which is pretty funny to call Winnipeg describe Winnipeg that way I don't know I haven't been to
00:03:58.200 winnipeg recently but it checks it sounds right uh sounds like a lot unfortunately a lot of big
00:04:02.680 cities in the paris these days but anyway the way that they describe it is just ridiculous okay and
00:04:07.320 now we go to this activist this authoritarian bully who is trying to have someone cancel guess
00:04:14.760 what if you don't want to go to a comedy show don't go to it right but why are you trying to
00:04:18.440 stop someone from their right to free speech why are you trying to stop other people from being
00:04:22.680 being able to enjoy an ev
00:04:25.820 anyway, let's go to this
00:04:29.220 global news is highlight
00:04:31.220 up any of the clips on y
00:04:34.220 takes a second for him to
00:04:37.300 immigrants, indigenous pe
00:04:40.740 trans folks, queer folk
00:04:44.040 I said what I said to her
00:04:47.140 The Port Theater in Nanai
00:04:49.380 his show, saying the socii
00:04:51.800 to upholding freedom of expression
00:04:54.000 within the bounds of the law.
00:04:56.040 Multiple shows in Minnesota also canceled.
00:04:59.000 After jokes he made about a 37-year-old mother
00:05:01.900 killed by an ICE agent earlier this year.
00:05:05.240 Yeah, her last name was good.
00:05:06.380 That's what I said after they shot her in the face.
00:05:08.680 To make light of a death of a human,
00:05:12.180 an innocent human, that's not comedy.
00:05:17.120 Okay, just pause it there.
00:05:18.320 Okay, again, the pearl clutching, right?
00:05:19.800 jokes, if something's funny, it's because usually it's hitting the nerve of something that you're
00:05:24.940 not supposed to talk about in society, right? And this idea that somehow, like, this activist in
00:05:30.640 Minnesota who tried to run over a police officer who actively got in the way of a law enforcement,
00:05:36.100 an ongoing operation, like, don't do that, guys. Don't get in the way of law enforcement when
00:05:40.720 they're trying to arrest bad guys. He makes a joke about that. And the pearl clutching from
00:05:44.920 this activist like oh my gosh how could he possibly make a joke about something like that it's just
00:05:50.840 save it it's ridiculous okay roll the clip i'm calling for prosper a place to pull the plug
00:05:56.960 on thursday's show especially for a public venue where we get most of our entertainment from i think
00:06:04.760 our entire community needs to feel comfortable and safe there and i am okay okay well that's
00:06:10.080 enough from this global clip you you get the gist right they go to the venue they try to pressure
00:06:14.220 them this is a public venue how dare they have someone that i don't like being hosted you know
00:06:20.380 imagine to this lady right like you're a left-wing activist the culture's on your side you're just
00:06:25.260 used to what calling up global news like hey i'm going to drum up i'm going to get this guy
00:06:28.780 canceled pointing out a couple of others imagine how conservatives feel right like almost everything
00:06:33.740 in the culture i disagree with i don't go around trying to shut everybody down and saying if you
00:06:37.820 don't agree with me you can't have a comedy show you can't have a tv show you can't have ratio we
00:06:42.460 We don't do that over on our side, but that is what the left does.
00:06:45.280 That's what they're accustomed to.
00:06:46.400 And I think it makes them mad that someone like Ben Bankis has enough cultural power
00:06:51.140 now where, you know what, the venue is not going to cancel his event.
00:06:56.320 Why?
00:06:56.800 Because they probably sold thousands of tickets, thousands.
00:06:59.980 They're probably making hundreds of thousands of dollars off this guy.
00:07:02.580 So like seven people from the Pride Brigade call him up and say, I'm so offended.
00:07:07.540 I don't like this.
00:07:08.520 They don't care.
00:07:09.440 They don't care because they're going to make money and the culture has shifted.
00:07:11.680 and that's why people like the the neck tattoo lady she's lost her power she can't use this
00:07:16.880 tactics that worked over the last 10 years the culture is finally changing and it's good to see
00:07:21.600 and interestingly ben bank is you know he's actually a pretty smart guy and his his critiques
00:07:26.000 yeah he has some jokes that i wouldn't repeat on this show but he he's actually pointed in
00:07:31.360 his criticisms he was recently on the trigonometry podcast you might remember that one because we
00:07:35.680 covered it pierre polyev was on it as well it's a very popular podcast in the uk where they just
00:07:40.960 interview intelligent people and they talk about these kinds of things about the woke mob and the
00:07:46.120 woke excesses, the excesses of the far left. I want to just play you a little clip because he
00:07:50.220 talks about this very phenomenon of people trying to get him canceled. Let's roll that clip. This
00:07:53.720 whole idea that you don't feel safe because somebody's making jokes is so dangerous for
00:07:57.980 society. Some guy was trying to get people to call the police during the show to have me arrested for
00:08:03.520 hate speech. One of my audience members told me that her union, teachers union, sent her an email
00:08:09.280 saying not to attend my show imagine an email going out to a company or an organization saying
00:08:13.840 please do not attend this drag time story hour improving your own life will do more for the
00:08:19.040 country than marching around with a sign trying to get a comedy show canceled be successful start
00:08:24.880 a business clean your room clean your room and i sound like a parent but the right needs to parent
00:08:30.000 the left your universities are incredibly prestigious you've got literally everything
00:08:35.840 they've all been infiltrated all the universities are infiltrated by
00:08:39.440 china we need to make the gay people in charge of the country and then fill the country with mushrooms
00:08:50.720 i got such a kick out of this guy he's completely right they have they try to
00:08:55.280 shut things down it's all being manipulated good for ben benkes i'm glad to see that he
00:08:59.840 is withstanding the woke mob that the fake news media can't take him down this global
00:09:04.960 news report got absolutely roasted online as it deserved. And I think more people will go see Ben
00:09:09.560 Bankus because of these efforts. We've seen in the past the CBC trying to do the same thing.
00:09:13.940 Why outrage comedy sells. They had a hit piece against Ben Bankus a couple of months ago back
00:09:18.800 in February last month. They also had this one trying to get his Kitchener show cancelled.
00:09:25.360 This is just so pathetic. Okay, guys, let's be real. Crime is up. Repeat offenders are released
00:09:31.120 on bail, police responses are slower than ever. And in many places, law abiding citizens are
00:09:37.620 expected to just hope nothing bad happens. That's not good enough. And that's why I'm very pleased
00:09:42.120 today to be telling you about Berna. And I'm so pleased to have this partnership with Juno News
00:09:46.740 because I actually own one myself. I bought one before we ever had this deal with Berna. So what
00:09:51.280 is Berna? It is a non-lethal self-defense launcher that gives you real protection without carrying a
00:09:58.440 firearm. It looks like a firearm. It kind of feels like a firearm, but it's not. It's non-lethal. So
00:10:03.140 Berna launchers look and feel like a real handgun, but they don't use bullets. Instead, they fire
00:10:07.920 powerful kinetic rounds designed to stop a threat from a distance up to 60 feet without lethal
00:10:13.760 force. Here's why it matters. You don't need a firearms license. You don't need a background
00:10:18.560 check. There's no waiting period. There's no permanent life altering consequences if you're
00:10:24.340 forced into the situation where you have to defend yourself. And let me just tell you folks,
00:10:28.160 it's all too real it's all too normal in canada we see stories all the time in the news of home
00:10:33.680 invasions and criminal gangs and it's scary and many times it's too close for comfort again that's
00:10:39.120 why i bought one myself these things are designed to stop they're not designed to kill they are a
00:10:44.400 less lethal option made specifically for canada so this product is legal in all 10 provinces
00:10:50.880 and it ships for free go to the description in the link below or visit junomarketplace.com
00:10:57.200 slash Berna. That's J-U-N-O marketplace.com slash B-Y-R-N-A. Guys, buy one for your wife.
00:11:05.200 You'll thank me later. She'll thank you later. It's a really important tool to have in your
00:11:08.560 house, especially for me. Look, my husband travels a lot for work. I have four little kids
00:11:12.000 and this thing, having it in my house gives me peace of mind. So use the link in the description
00:11:17.540 or visit junomarketplace.com slash Berna for special offers. Make sure that you're prepared.
00:11:22.940 it's better to be safe than sorry. All right, folks. And to help me break this down a little
00:11:27.340 further, I'm very pleased to be joined by a guest, a face that will be very familiar to the audience.
00:11:31.200 I'm talking about Harrison Faulkner. He is an independent journalist, formerly with True North.
00:11:36.200 Harrison, welcome to the Candace Malcolm Show. Great to be here, Candace. It's been a while,
00:11:40.060 but I'm happy to chat with you. Yeah, man. Great to see your face. We've missed you around here.
00:11:45.120 So first of all, Ben Bankis. I mean, yeah, he's sort of like an edgy comedian or whatever.
00:11:50.000 he's pretty funny and he obviously has a huge audience so the fact that the media is like
00:11:54.900 I don't even know how to describe this it's like their hatred for freedom of speech and for like
00:12:00.800 just comedy to make fun of the woke thing that they hold so dearly they can't handle it and so
00:12:06.660 they put this pressure and they run these campaigns and they pretend Canadians are really
00:12:11.280 against this kind of thing that that woman with a weird neck tattoo speaks for people of Kelowna or
00:12:17.100 speaks for all Canadians. It's just sick to me. What do you make of it? Well, I think the problem
00:12:21.920 that Ben Bankus faces right now is that he is becoming far too popular to be controlled and to
00:12:28.500 be dictated to by the media and by activists. He sells out shows in the United States and he has a
00:12:35.000 loyal following across Canada. He's showing up on podcasts all over the English-speaking world
00:12:40.180 because there is a desire to hear this kind of comedy, a release from what we are being fed
00:12:46.640 by the media and by politicians day in and day out.
00:12:49.640 He's able to kind of strike into that discourse
00:12:52.120 that we all quietly think the way we talk
00:12:54.800 behind the closed doors and around the dinner table,
00:12:57.420 he's able to bring that out.
00:12:58.920 And so the problem he's now facing,
00:13:00.700 it's one that he's familiar with.
00:13:02.100 I've been following him for a while now.
00:13:04.420 I've been to one of his shows in Toronto.
00:13:06.320 The problem is now that he is becoming very popular
00:13:09.520 and this is just going to keep
00:13:11.000 actually increasing his popularity.
00:13:13.080 Candice, I think it speaks to the fact
00:13:14.320 that we all know these activists and some of these media, these journalists, we know they're
00:13:21.100 really offside with the culture, but this is more evidence of that because all they're doing is
00:13:27.060 making him more famous. This is just free advertising. 100%, Harrison. I feel like the
00:13:32.360 culture shifted, right? A couple of years ago, they could have said, oh, he's racist. Don't go
00:13:36.020 to a show. And people might've been like, oh, I don't want to be associated with him. But the
00:13:38.940 culture has shifted. People are tired of this. I had Melanie Bennett on the show yesterday,
00:13:42.820 and we talked about this, it's almost like the Streisand effect, right? You're probably too young
00:13:46.620 to understand the reference. But the idea was that Barbara Streisand didn't want her, that photo of
00:13:52.360 her house in some book. And so she ended up suing the person and it became like way, way more famous
00:13:56.960 than the book would have ever been otherwise. We had this conversation yesterday about this
00:14:01.280 trans person who's running for mayor of Hamilton. He threatened to sue us because we refused to use
00:14:06.360 he, him, because we used he, him pronouns instead of she, her pronouns, even though it's a man.
00:14:10.340 and it caused the situation to blow up, right?
00:14:13.860 It's like, I think that journalists
00:14:15.320 and people in the left are starting to realize
00:14:17.500 that the culture in the country
00:14:19.320 is not really with them on this stuff.
00:14:21.000 Like we actually like free speech.
00:14:22.220 Sometimes we like offensive humor.
00:14:23.720 We don't want to call men women.
00:14:24.860 We don't want to be forced and compelled
00:14:26.180 to use your ridiculous pronouns
00:14:27.900 when you're clearly not that thing.
00:14:29.360 And it just, it feels to me
00:14:30.900 like we have a lot of momentum on our side
00:14:33.080 and that it might be a surprise
00:14:34.920 because the media has been doing this for,
00:14:36.480 let's admit it, years and years and years
00:14:38.480 where they just run a hit piece.
00:14:39.820 They use the same kind of style.
00:14:42.520 It's like the anatomy of a hit piece.
00:14:44.120 And they have success.
00:14:45.520 We saw it last summer with the way that Sean Fouch,
00:14:48.020 remember him, Christian Singer, who was doing a tour.
00:14:51.040 And, you know, a couple of government employees
00:14:52.660 got upset over in Nova Scotia
00:14:54.720 and they managed to get one of his tours canceled.
00:14:58.900 And then they had this whole campaign across the country
00:15:00.980 where they would just find local people
00:15:02.520 to get upset and complain.
00:15:04.080 And they tried to drum it into this big national controversy.
00:15:07.000 You know, Sean Fouch, a Christian singer, right?
00:15:09.160 and a praise leader. And he happens to support President Donald Trump as half the country does
00:15:13.640 in the United States. So, you know, they create these fake news narratives. And I just I just
00:15:18.780 think they're losing. What do you think? Well, they're creating murders in a way, right? This
00:15:23.120 is what this is what they're doing. And I think, again, it speaks to the fact that it's pretty
00:15:27.120 obvious. You and I can see it, Candace. Thousands of people can see it, that when the media creates
00:15:33.140 these hit pieces, they're losing their power. Yes, they still have some influence, but it's losing
00:15:37.560 its weight. And what happens is you are seen as someone taking slings and arrows. If you're on
00:15:42.860 the receiving end of these hit pieces, you're seen as someone standing in the way of the attacks
00:15:48.040 that are going to the audience. And so that makes these characters, whether it's Ben Bankus,
00:15:53.120 whether it's Sean Foyt, the singer, whether it is Don Cherry, for example, that is what is making
00:16:00.140 people stand that that's, that's raising their profile. It's making them seem like they are the
00:16:04.960 ones standing up, taking the shots from the media, and it makes them more famous. It's almost now
00:16:11.040 seen as if you're sort of in this right wing space, it's almost now seen as a rite of passage.
00:16:16.840 If you're not being attacked by the left wing media in Canada, are you really pushing the right
00:16:21.360 buttons? Are you really striking the right tone for the current moment? Bankus clearly is, and I
00:16:26.640 think people are starting to see it as almost as a sign of approval. It's so true. I used to almost
00:16:31.840 fear a press progress hit piece against us because i'd be worried about what they would say and now
00:16:36.640 it's like so irrelevant when they do it uh first of all but but yeah it's like a badge of honor i
00:16:40.800 guess okay harris let's get to the big news everyone's dying to hear it if you get our
00:16:44.800 emails you've seen obviously we've been working and trying to get harrison faulkner back on our
00:16:49.200 airways and we have some exciting news to announce so over to you harrison that's right the ratioed
00:16:55.680 that all of you enjoyed so much the harrison faulkner show the podcast and the opportunity
00:17:00.480 that i had to connect with all of you we are bringing it back so it's starting this week
00:17:04.960 starting on monday i am bringing a show back to juno news i couldn't be more excited uh it's going
00:17:10.560 to be great to kind of rekindle that fire and that passion that we were able to get together with the
00:17:17.120 audience and to drive conversations forward we made some big progress on some big issues i think
00:17:22.560 immigration and issues like that i think now is the time to bring it back and bring back that
00:17:27.120 energy so i'm very excited you're going to see a lot more starting this monday well we're very
00:17:31.680 excited and harris i'll just recount the story because not everyone knows you started out very
00:17:36.720 the very first time we were connected was you were a guest on juno news i think it was on andrew
00:17:41.360 lawton's show and you were a student at the university of or ryerson university as it was
00:17:46.320 called then before they changed the name and you were part of a conservative club fighting against
00:17:50.720 the woke mob trying to cancel your school's namesake uh egerton ryerson and basically we
00:17:56.000 liked you so much after the interview we brought you on as a student intern and the rest is sort
00:18:00.240 of history you started working on my show as a producer and then i went away on maternity leave
00:18:04.240 at some point and we sort of gave you the show and you ran away with it and all of a sudden you were
00:18:07.760 the most popular commentator in canada not just on true north and our airways but like the whole
00:18:12.400 country everyone knew you i went to an event with you in toronto and there was like a mob of people
00:18:17.440 trying to meet you it was amazing um so you sort of became you became a huge um influential
00:18:23.680 independent journalist you've gone on to you know do your own thing make documentaries interview
00:18:28.320 some of the biggest politicians you recently hosted a debate with jason kenney and bruce party
00:18:32.720 on the future of alberta alberta separatism is a great interview a great debate that you
00:18:36.640 moderated there um and so it's been awesome to see you go from i i think maybe like you were
00:18:41.840 like a teenager when you first started doing this stuff and now you're grown into a prominent voice
00:18:45.760 on your own so very uh very excited to to bring you back any any any more comments on that well
00:18:51.120 i just have to say that uh you guys gave me a chance i i i say you know in a joking way that
00:18:57.120 you were crazy enough to let me on camera in the first place and uh i never look back and i have
00:19:01.920 to appreciate that opportunity so it feels sort of like a great full circle moment uh to see how
00:19:08.080 uh to see how juno has grown into its new brand and its new um its new positioning in canadian
00:19:13.840 media which is so crucial uh so i'm just very excited and ready to get this new chapter going
00:19:19.680 great well i know the audience has really missed you we've heard uh from a lot of people saying

00:19:32.080 next week um we'll keep an eye out for that and folks head on over to juno news sign up for emails
00:19:36.960 because then you'll never miss any of these kind of videos or announcements uh you can sign up for

00:19:55.600 and everything else and it's just important to support independent media in this country there
00:19:58.800 are very few voices left that are not subsidized by the government there are very few outlets that
00:20:03.920 haven't caved into pressure to you know push the woke party line or to to start taking the mark
00:20:10.080 carney bailout fund i mean the money is dangling in front of us we refuse to take it because we
00:20:13.440 we don't think journalists should be paid for by the government. And I know Harrison
00:20:17.040 is a true independent journalist and a fighter. So really looking forward to having you back, man.
