00:02:07.420 Okay, so about the world, I've kind of had a bit of a wild-ass journey in my walk with God

00:02:19.140 And like when I first started out in the game, when I first got converted and really started to walk with God,

00:02:23.140 I hung out with a lot of poor people.

00:02:25.780 And this Bible study that I was going to was predominantly like poor people.

00:02:30.680 And they would always bring up these passages about not loving the world and hating the world,

00:02:35.400 not being part of the world.

00:02:37.760 And I was always like, well, yeah, that's convenient for them.

00:02:39.820 Like they're poor, you know, like they're not like they're not thriving in this world system.

00:02:44.160 And so they're very, it's very easy for them to be like, oh, I don't like the world.

00:02:47.440 But I was like, they're just doing that because they're not productive within this world system.

00:02:52.560 And they're not thriving and succeeding in it, which was a, which wasn't astute observation.

00:02:56.800 Like, so just, I just need to put that observation in my back pocket

00:07:25.880 And so I was kind of in a crux and just trying to understand this whole like world system now and understand like what the Bible is talking about when it talks about the world.

00:07:38.440 Maybe that narrow road that we're talking about kind of have to find a nice world between both.

00:08:09.660 And ultimately what I landed on and what is the world that we are not a part of is like think about all the systems of the world, dude.

00:09:23.720 I think as time has gone on, it's made me sick to see how much of the world is in the church.

00:09:28.400 There's an old time saying that says a ship in the sea is all right, but the sea and the ship is all wrong.

00:09:34.540 And the ship is a type of the church that kind of floats above all that wickedness and all that evil of the world and is a safe place and is an example to the world.

00:09:43.180 And when it's in the sea, that's right.

00:09:44.820 We're in the world, but we're not of the world.

00:09:46.540 But when the sea gets in the ship, the ship is sinking.

00:09:50.340 That's why the sea is sinking.

00:09:52.280 And I think history is born witness to that.

00:09:54.880 And it looks filthy and ridiculous in the church when you see the world just being mingled with the church.

00:10:06.300 So let's just pull up a couple passages real quick.

00:10:12.760 Okay, 1 John 2, 15 through 17.

00:10:19.800 This is kind of like the core of how the Bible views the world.

00:10:24.460 And this is where the rubber meets the road and where you kind of have to come to terms with like, yeah, what is my position with and in the world, right?

00:10:34.360 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.

00:10:38.420 If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

00:10:42.200 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life is not of the Father, but is of the world.

00:10:49.820 And the world passes away in the lust thereof, but he that doeth the will of God abides forever.

00:10:55.980 So right away, just notice he's contrasting the temporary with the eternal, right?

00:11:00.680 The world passes away in the lust thereof, but he that does the will of God abides forever.

00:11:05.560 I think that's one thing to take note of with the world is that it's a thing that's passing away.

00:11:11.900 And if you truly have faith and your claim is that you want to spend eternity with Christ, then it's very hypocritical to love the world that you're claiming is just going to pass away one day, right?

00:11:25.520 But it also starts to talk about the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life.

00:11:30.140 I think we all understand like the lust of the flesh or like the desire of the flesh.

00:11:34.500 Some of these things would be like for sex, food, drugs, sleep, just laziness, like video games.

00:11:40.120 Just think of think of whatever you can like these things that our flesh just kind of desires.

00:11:46.980 That's just like the easy animal like nature that we have.

00:11:54.920 But we've talked about it before, like the same way we hunt animals around like their sexual desire and their appetite for food desire.

00:12:03.040 The demonic realm can hunt us in the same way, like over our fleshly and carnal nature, right?

00:12:08.780 Another thing that gets talked about is the pride of life, which is like we talk about this a lot, like reputation, concern for what man thinks, and just kind of this independence from God.

00:12:18.640 Just like this pride of life that like I can do it without God.

00:12:22.420 And we all kind of have this desire for reputation and people to look at you and think you're somebody important.

00:12:27.800 Like I vividly remember that, especially like back when I was still trying to come to terms with like why the world was bad.

00:12:36.040 I remember during that time, I really did like it if I was like at a party or something and was telling somebody like, yeah, I live in a 3,000 square foot house and I'd have a cool car and got a lot of money in a bank account.

00:12:46.220 Like I remember that, man.

00:12:47.460 And I remember being at houses and looking at people's houses and saying like, oh, man, I wish I had a kitchen like that.

00:12:53.560 Or I wish I had like a backyard like that.

00:12:55.420 Or I wish I had stuff like this or that.

00:12:57.080 But I vividly remember that in the beginning of my walk with Christ.

00:13:00.920 Like all this stuff is just like the world.

00:13:03.120 It's all our fleshly desires for these things in the world.

00:13:07.820 And the interesting thing about the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is it looks like that's exactly how Satan tried to tempt Jesus in the wilderness.

00:19:11.580 So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets and it came to pass when the people heard the sound of the trumpet and the people shouted with a great shout that the wall fell down flat so that the people went up into the city.

00:19:22.120 Every man straight before him and they took the city and they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old and ox and sheep and ass with the edge of the sword.

00:20:17.000 And she dwells in Israel even into this day because she hid the messengers which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
