00:00:00.000 You're a man of action. You live life to the fullest, embrace your fears, and boldly chart
00:00:05.000 your own path. When life knocks you down, you get back up one more time, every time.
00:00:10.440 You are not easily deterred or defeated, rugged, resilient, strong. This is your life. This is who
00:00:17.240 you are. This is who you will become. At the end of the day, and after all is said and done,
00:00:22.800 you can call yourself a man. Gentlemen, what is going on today? My name is Ryan Mickler.
00:00:27.560 I am the host and founder of this podcast and the movement that is Order of Man. It's my goal
00:00:32.540 to give you the tools, the conversations, and resources that you need to step up more fully
00:00:38.560 as a husband, a father, a business owner, a community leader, whatever facet of life you're
00:00:44.020 showing up as. We've got this show, your Friday Field Notes. We've got an interview show. We've
00:00:48.620 also got an Ask Me Anything show. So we've got a lot on the docket. Now this one, as your Friday
00:00:53.520 Field Notes, is going to be a little bit different than it normally is. Normally I'm just sharing
00:00:57.540 some thoughts and ideas and insights into what's bouncing around in my brain, but today I've got
00:01:03.580 somewhat of a quick one, but a very, very important message for you. And I'm going to get right into
00:01:08.700 it. Normally I'd tell you about show sponsors or anything that we have coming up, but there's not
00:01:13.560 a lot happening right now by way of announcements, but that's not to say there isn't a lot going on
00:01:20.160 in my life. There certainly is. We are this weekend doing the finalizing of packing because I'm going
00:01:27.880 to be moving my family from our home state of Utah to Maine of all places. And I did a podcast
00:01:34.560 several weeks ago and talked about why I've made this move and why we've decided to make this
00:01:39.740 transition. So if you're interested, you can go back and listen to that. But really what I wanted
00:01:44.060 to do today as again, a brief Friday Field Notes, but a very heartfelt one is to tell you, thank you.
00:01:51.340 That's it. My whole objective in this podcast and this conversation today is to tell you, thank you
00:01:57.280 sincerely from the bottom of my heart for helping make this a viable movement for stepping up in big
00:02:06.980 ways in your own life, reclaiming and restoring masculinity within the walls of your home and your
00:02:12.980 business and your community and on the baseball field and the football field. And again, every
00:02:18.000 area of life in which you're showing up. I'm inspired by you each and every day. I'm a better
00:02:23.680 man because of this movement. And the reason that we get to go pursue and chase our dreams in Maine
00:02:30.200 is because you've decided at some capacity, at some level to be involved with this movement.
00:02:37.680 So what I wanted to do is share with you a little bit about the backstory, the history of Order of
00:02:43.460 Man, how we got to where we are right now, which is absolutely incredible. When I look back on what
00:02:50.640 we've been able to accomplish and I say we deliberately, we as in me and you, what we've been
00:02:56.420 able to accomplish and then give you a little bit of insight into loosely, I'll say loosely into what
00:03:03.200 we're going to be doing moving forward. So let's talk about this. I am a financial advisor by trade.
00:03:08.920 I sold, permanently sold my financial planning practice roughly a year, a little over a year ago.
00:03:16.760 And I did that because we just became so busy with this movement, busy with a podcast and the events
00:03:22.940 that we run and the organizations and the iron council, which is our brotherhood and everything
00:03:27.540 else that we've got going on that I just couldn't pay enough attention to both Order of Man and the
00:03:32.140 financial planning practice. And I wasn't serving my clients the way that they needed to be served
00:03:37.340 and the way that I agreed to serve them. So I sold my financial planning practice. But if we were to
00:03:42.040 rewind four years ago, I launched this in May of 2015. I never would have in a million years imagined
00:03:50.740 that we would have a podcast that would have been downloaded over 10 million times. In fact,
00:03:56.800 I think it's over 11 million times now. And that we've been reaching millions and millions of men
00:04:04.440 across the planet, that we'd have thousands of men who have gone through our programs and our
00:04:11.100 offerings to improve themselves and make themselves more capable as men. That there would be people
00:04:16.820 walking around with an Order of Man logo on their shirt or on their hat or a decal on their truck or
00:04:23.800 their vehicle. It's a little bit surreal. It's a little bit unreal for sure. And I couldn't be
00:04:31.380 more honored to be leading the charge in what it means to be a man and how we societally need to step
00:04:37.300 more fully into this role. When I started in March of 2015, it was really my goal to have some
00:04:44.020 conversations with men who I was inspired by so that I could level up in my life. I struggled for a lot
00:04:50.500 of years up until roughly four years ago, interestingly enough, with what it meant to
00:04:56.300 be a man and how I needed to show up as a father and how I needed to show up as a husband and how I
00:05:02.100 needed to grow my business. And I thought, what better way to learn how to do this stuff than to
00:05:07.240 tap into conversations with other incredible men who I admired and respected and did coaching
00:05:15.680 sessions essentially with them. And basically all I decided to do was to air those coaching
00:05:20.360 sessions to you. And from the minute that we launched that, this thing really, really took
00:05:25.100 off, which is a testament to the fact that men want the information that we're sharing, that we want
00:05:30.220 a band of brothers, that we want to level up, that we have a desire to step more fully into being men.
00:05:35.160 And that maybe the resource wasn't quite there or developed as much as we would have liked,
00:05:41.700 which is what we've been able to create here with Order of Man. And again, it's not lost on
00:05:45.520 me that I wouldn't be able to do this without the millions of men who listen every single month
00:05:50.200 and who engage and who go out and lead their lives the way that they do and the way that I'm inspired
00:05:56.400 by. That's why we're able to go do this. We've got a beautiful property in Maine with a beautiful
00:06:01.860 home on that property. It's my goal to get my family up there. And of course, turn that house
00:06:06.920 into a home and make that the new headquarters for Order of Man. Now, when I say headquarters,
00:06:12.620 let me give you a little bit of a glimpse into what we're going to be doing in the future.
00:06:18.620 Now, a lot of you already know, we've got our exclusive brotherhood, the Iron Council.
00:06:23.840 We're at roughly 500 men within that Iron Council who are all working together to improve their
00:06:29.720 lives and be accountable and step into challenges and really push themselves physically, mentally,
00:06:34.760 and emotionally. We've got that, of course. We've also got our live events, our experiences
00:06:40.500 that we run. We do a legacy event, which is a father-son event. We do the uprising event,
00:06:45.820 which is reserved exclusively for men. And then we've got our meetups, which we only have done
00:06:53.020 a couple, but we're probably going to do more of those. We've got our, what else do we have?
00:06:57.480 We've got the merchandise, of course, that we have. And if you try to go buy merchandise right now,
00:07:03.140 you'll be sadly disappointed because I've closed the store until we get out there and we're able to
00:07:07.820 open up the warehouse. My son, actually, my 11-year-old son runs the shipping department.
00:07:12.980 So if you do buy stuff, then he's the one that packages it with my help, of course, and ships
00:07:18.560 it out. So that's kind of a cool touch and I'm honored to be able to bring him into it. But again,
00:07:23.320 that's because of you. Then we've got some courses sporadically here and there that we run as well.
00:07:27.880 We're going to double down. All right. We're going to put together just some amazing,
00:07:32.820 amazing information, some amazing resources. I really see being able to bring more courses,
00:07:39.880 one-off courses, and making those available to you with regards to physical fitness that I'll
00:07:44.640 be partnering up with some people, with growing a business, with finances, with health, every aspect
00:07:51.300 of your life. We're going to be doing one-off courses. Of course, we are going to be doing the
00:07:57.160 Iron Council still, which has been an absolutely incredible experience for me and the rest of the
00:08:02.060 guys in there. One of the things that we're actually working on now is leveling up and rank
00:08:08.160 advancements and achievements within the Iron Council that you'll be able to unlock as you
00:08:13.020 complete specific tasks and other challenges. So constantly looking at new ways to level that up.
00:08:20.360 And then we're going to run our experiences. Now, like I said, we've already got some in place,
00:08:24.320 but with the property that we have and that we're moving into, it's going to be absolutely
00:08:29.680 incredible. I mean, we've got the space and we've got the resources to be able to run our entire event
00:08:36.760 on the property itself. We're going to have some housing and some lodging. I'm going to set up a 3D
00:08:43.280 archery course on the property itself. I'm going to see if I can set up a shooting range. I don't know
00:08:48.760 if I can, if I'm within city limits or not, but we'll look into that. We're going to set up an
00:08:53.580 obstacle course. And what else? I mean, there's just so much. We've got so much going on right now.
00:08:59.060 And like I had said, in the beginning of this podcast, we are packing things up this weekend
00:09:05.120 and into next week. And then we're out of here next weekend. So we've got a lot going on. I'm going
00:09:10.740 to be a little sporadic on social media, but I would ask that you follow along on social media and not
00:09:16.560 just follow, but that you connect, that you connect with me there. You can check it out at
00:09:21.660 on Instagram at Ryan Mickler and Twitter at Ryan Mickler as well. My last name is spelled M-I-C-H-L-E-R
00:09:29.020 connect with me there. Cause I'm going to be still active on our trip. You can check it out and see
00:09:34.580 how that trip with my wife and four kids and two dogs and everything else that we'll be lugging along
00:09:42.040 it will go. That, that should be an interesting experience. But then you'll be able to see also
00:09:46.140 how the property is progressing and what I'm doing to turn that into a resource. That's going to be
00:09:52.520 again, the headquarters for all the future plans that I have, and that I want you to be involved in.
00:09:58.380 Guys, what I want you to know, and I'll wrap things up here. This is a fairly short one
00:10:02.080 is that I am fully vested in this mission. This isn't something that I kind of think is a good idea
00:10:09.820 or something that I'm purely here to capitalize off of, although it is a viable business. Let's not
00:10:15.180 mistake that. Uh, this is something that I wholeheartedly believe in. I believe that one
00:10:22.380 of the greatest threats to society is the lack of genuine and authentic men who are strong, who are
00:10:31.020 capable, courageous, honorable, knowledgeable, and lead from a position of service, wanting to serve
00:10:41.180 their families, their community members, their neighbors, their friends, even strangers. Because
00:10:47.640 I believe at the root of what it means to be a man is to be a servant is to lead with love to again,
00:10:53.500 be capable of serving effectively and protecting, providing, and presiding. I am all in on this thing.
00:11:01.020 And I know a lot of you listening to this are all in as well. I want to let you know that I
00:11:05.620 appreciate the fact that you are. And the reason that I wanted to share this message with you today
00:11:10.980 is again, to tell you, thank you. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for believing in,
00:11:17.180 in this cause and in the organization. Thank you for directly and or indirectly holding me accountable
00:11:24.580 to step up in my life, to be that more capable father, to be more connected with my kids,
00:11:29.860 to be a little bit more loving and empathetic and open with my wife than maybe I have in the past
00:11:37.580 to learn how to exercise and hold myself to the highest standard when it comes to the fuels that
00:11:45.040 I eat and how I work out and how I take care of my body when it comes to growing a business and all
00:11:51.840 of the challenges that came with growing my financial planning practice. And of course, over the past four
00:11:56.420 years, growing this movement and learning how to connect with millions of guys across the planet,
00:12:02.920 you have done that for me. And I want you to know that I recognize that, that I, I honor you.
00:12:09.760 I thank you. You'll always hold a special place in my heart because you have helped me be the kind
00:12:17.300 of man that I know I'm capable of, of becoming. And I know I've got a long way to go. And I will
00:12:22.460 continue down this path of masculinity. I will continue to lead this movement because I know
00:12:28.300 that this is what society needs. And because I know that this is what society needs, then I ask
00:12:34.740 you to continue to be involved, to not just listen to what I have to share, but to apply it. The
00:12:41.340 knowledge is great. The information is wonderful, but unless we're applying the information, unless we
00:12:47.340 are leading our families, leading our businesses, leading our communities, making ourselves more
00:12:52.080 capable of being protectors of those that we have a responsibility and obligation for and making
00:12:58.360 ourselves capable of, of presiding, which is to lead effectively from a position of service. I think
00:13:04.660 this is what we need to reverse the trend in society of weakness and complacency and mediocrity and
00:13:11.580 all of the other not so wonderful virtues that seem to be espoused generally in society.
00:13:18.220 I'm going to reverse this trend, but I can only do it with your help. So again, thank you for being
00:13:22.640 on this path. As I part today, I would ask that you share this episode, that you share all of the
00:13:27.980 things that we have put out there. A lot of this content is free. I do that by design because I think
00:13:33.440 you need it and you want it and it's good. It's good for you. It's good for me. It's good for anybody
00:13:39.340 who may be directly or indirectly impacted by the work that we're doing. So that's it guys. That's
00:13:44.900 all I've got for you today. Share this episode, connect with me on social media, specifically
00:13:49.640 Instagram and Twitter, both at Ryan Mickler. And also I would say subscribe to the show because
00:13:56.360 we're going to be having some very, very cool interviews moving up. Oh, that's one thing I
00:14:00.400 didn't mention to you. One of the things that I'm going to be doing when we get to Maine
00:14:04.120 is setting up a very cool state of the art podcast studio. And it's my goal to have more
00:14:11.420 of my guests come to me. We're going to have an experience for them when they get out there
00:14:16.180 and we're going to be doing some live podcasting. So we'll be including a lot more video. So
00:14:22.120 if you're not following us on YouTube at order of man, then I'd recommend that you do that because
00:14:28.420 you will start seeing a lot more video with my guests. So there it is guys. Again, I appreciate
00:14:35.000 you. I'll be thinking about you as I'm on this, uh, this seven day journey across the States.
00:14:40.340 That should be interesting. I'll keep you in the loop on how it goes, but subscribe. We'll still
00:14:44.380 be releasing the podcast throughout that time. And I'll still be engaged on social media.
00:14:48.160 Thanks again, guys. Go out there, take action and become the man you are meant to be.
00:14:53.260 Thank you for listening to the order of man podcast. You're ready to take charge of your life
00:14:57.900 and be more of the man you were meant to be. We invite you to join the order at order of man.com.
