00:00:00.000 You're a man. You're committed to the work required to forge your own destiny.
00:00:04.600 Your blood. Your sweat. Your tears.

00:00:14.640 You're a rock. Steadfast, resolute, and unwavering.
00:00:18.420 And, at the end of the day, the job will be done.
00:00:22.400 Welcome to your Friday Field Notes.
00:00:25.040 Men, what is going on today? My name is Ryan Michler, and I am the host and founder of Order of Men.
00:00:29.700 Now, if you're new to the show today, I want to welcome you, and if you've been around for any amount of time for a while now, you know the drill.
00:00:35.800 Order of Men is all about helping you become a better man, a better husband, a better father, a better business owner, a better community leader, a better man.
00:00:43.220 And you know as well as I do that the world needs us, all of us, to step up as men now more than ever.
00:00:48.780 For those of you who are tuning in now for the first time today, this is, guys, our Friday Field Notes show.
00:00:54.260 This is a short show, typically between 7 to 10 minutes, of some of my thoughts throughout the week.
00:00:59.240 We also have a full version show, which is released each and every Tuesday.
00:01:03.980 This is where I interview the world's most successful men on the topics of leadership and psychology, fatherhood, mental resiliency, health and nutrition, and just about everywhere in between.
00:01:14.240 So make sure you subscribe to this show if you have not already, so you do not miss an episode, including my conversation, guys, with a New York Times bestselling author about creating massive value for yourself and those you care about.
00:01:26.580 That's coming up in the coming weeks.
00:01:28.280 Now, I want to get into the topic of discussion today.
00:01:30.400 I've had quite a few requests to recap last weekend.
00:01:33.700 And for those of you who don't know, last weekend was our inaugural live retreat.
00:01:37.880 We called it the uprising.
00:01:39.520 We had 20 men flying from all over the country to learn about the skills and the tools and the resources that they need to step more fully into their lives as men.
00:01:49.060 And frankly, into the lives of the families and businesses and communities.
00:01:52.920 And the retreat was such a huge success.
00:01:55.140 It went so much better than even I had anticipated that we've already confirmed some of the details for the next uprising, which will be in April of 2017.
00:02:04.800 I'm going to give you some of the more details towards the end of this show.
00:02:07.540 So even if you're remotely interested, you're just slightly interested, stick around and you can get all of the information on that.
00:02:13.040 We're going to sell these out quick.
00:02:14.040 So like I said, we had guys fly in from all over the country.
00:02:17.720 We picked up the guys in Las Vegas and drove to a somewhat of a remote cabin in a small mountain town in southern Utah.
00:02:23.880 I've been to some events in the past, guys, and I'm sure you have as well.
00:02:26.780 One of the hardest things there is is to get the attendees to interact with each other.
00:02:31.020 So we decided to really shake things up right off the bat so that we could get these guys interacting.
00:02:35.280 And the very first thing that we did after the guys got their room assignments is that we went and played Airsoft.
00:02:39.600 Now, if you've never played Airsoft before, you have got to try it.
00:02:42.200 It's amazing to me how quickly men can come together when they're literally shooting at each other.
00:02:45.900 But that was the whole idea around the event.
00:02:47.960 Our goal was to just shake things up, to shake men out of their current reality.
00:02:52.400 We wanted to create something that men had never experienced before.
00:02:56.200 And I know all of the guys who came tried something that they'd never done before.
00:03:00.200 Now, I don't want to give away all the details because part of the draw for the uprising is the mystery surrounding the event.
00:03:05.400 And of course, flying across the country or wherever you're coming from across the planet.
00:03:09.200 I think we're even going to have attendees from outside of the country in April.
00:03:12.900 But part of the draw is having them fly in from all over the place without a clue as to what they're actually getting themselves into.
00:03:19.820 That's part of the mystery.
00:03:20.940 That's part of what makes this event so great.
00:03:22.700 Now, a lot of you probably know my favorite quote regarding masculinity.
00:03:26.220 If you've heard me for any amount of time, this is John Eldridge's quote.
00:03:29.400 He says, deep in his heart, every man longs for a battle to fight, an adventure to live, and a beauty to rescue.
00:03:34.540 Now, minus the beauty to rescue part, that's what we wanted to create.
00:03:38.060 For food, we did a lot of different things.
00:03:40.340 Some of it was catered.
00:03:41.300 We did some Dutch oven meatloaf, chicken, potatoes, cobbler one evening.
00:03:44.600 If you haven't done Dutch oven, it is amazing.
00:03:46.820 But most of the meals that we did, the attendees were actually the ones who were preparing and cooking the food.
00:03:51.560 And it's pretty cool to see these guys come together in something as trivial as making dinner
00:03:56.000 and start working as a team and start communicating efficiently to make sure dinner was prepared.
00:04:00.920 And the cool thing about this is that every situation, you guys, every opportunity, every moment from shooting to survival training
00:04:06.620 and everything else that we did and everything else that you're doing in your life is a metaphor.
00:04:11.040 It's a metaphor for life.
00:04:12.460 There's a lesson to be extracted from everything that we do on a daily basis.
00:04:16.060 So we make sure that we were conducting what we call after action reviews.
00:04:19.960 If you're a military guy or a first responder, you probably know what this is.
00:04:23.580 We did this after each activity to find out, to identify what lessons we could extract from that activity
00:04:30.820 and then therefore implement it into our everyday lives.
00:04:33.940 So we got up each and every morning early.
00:04:36.280 We did PT.
00:04:37.260 We had killer food.
00:04:38.660 We also had some world-class instruction.
00:04:41.000 I got a lot of good feedback on the instruction that we had on the topics of survival and our firearms training.
00:04:46.060 We built fires.
00:04:47.180 We shot six or seven different weapon systems.
00:04:49.620 Some of these guys had never shot firearms before, so we got a chance to do that.
00:04:53.260 And at the end of the day, we did some really manly stuff.
00:04:55.260 But the biggest learning opportunity, and this is where most of the change happened,
00:04:58.940 this is where most of the value was driven from, was our firesides.
00:05:03.480 Each and every single night, we gathered around the campfire.
00:05:06.140 We talked about real issues, guys.
00:05:07.780 Not what people think we should talk about.
00:05:10.240 There wasn't any worry about being politically correct.
00:05:12.620 These were real conversations with real answers and solutions to real problems.
00:05:18.480 Men like you and I are facing every single day.
00:05:21.740 So it could be loss of a loved one, loss of a job, divorce, bankruptcies, financial issues, confidence issues.
00:05:28.520 You name it, we talked about it.
00:05:30.680 And we got to the heart of the matter.
00:05:32.180 And a lot of these guys walked away with a new perspective on how they're going to approach life moving forward.
00:05:37.440 So again, I can't divulge all the details.
00:05:40.540 But each and every one of these guys forged new bonds with men all over the country.
00:05:45.200 And I'm seeing these guys continue to connect outside of the event and help each other succeed.
00:05:50.760 Every single one of the men did something that they had never done before.
00:05:54.520 We also had some self-defense instruction from an MMA fighter.
00:05:58.000 We participated each and every morning in a morning routine.
00:06:00.440 We used Hal Elrod Savers method, if you're not familiar with that.
00:06:04.000 We had some great keynotes on the laws of influence and leadership.
00:06:07.540 And of course, we had a killer steakhouse dinner to cap the weekend.
00:06:10.260 We can't forget that.
00:06:11.040 But each of us as men, really guys, need to step more fully into the role as protector and provider and presider over ourselves and our families and our communities.
00:06:22.280 And this whole event, the whole three and a half days that we spent in the mountains of Southern Utah is designed to do exactly that.
00:06:29.860 Now, with that said, and as successful as the experience was, it went better than even I would have imagined.
00:06:36.100 There are opportunities to learn.
00:06:38.680 We've already started planning the next event and we've built in some more efficiencies during the weekend so we can do more on certain things and we can go deeper on a few of the other exercises.
00:06:47.480 We're going to have even more powerful information.
00:06:49.900 We've mapped out some additional breathtaking hikes, guys.
00:06:52.280 These hikes are beautiful and we've incorporated them into the next event.
00:06:55.280 And we're going to be implementing some more and deeper survival training, including land nav and situational awareness courses, just to name a few things that we're going to implement on the next event.
00:07:04.580 I know there are a lot of guys really struggling in their relationships.
00:07:08.420 I know that there's a lot of guys struggling with their careers.
00:07:10.820 I know there's a lot of guys struggling with their weight.
00:07:12.540 This used to be me.
00:07:13.340 And although I can't help men in one weekend overcome some choices and some actions that potentially they've developed over a lifetime or over decades, what we can do is we can help point you in the right direction and give you guys some tools so that you have the power to make massive changes in your life.
00:07:33.500 So if you're feeling stagnant, if you feel like you need to change, if you're feeling like you need to mix things up a bit, I want you to join us at our next uprising event.
00:07:41.240 It's going to challenge you.
00:07:42.160 It's going to test you.
00:07:43.000 It's going to disrupt the path that you've been on for decades potentially, but it's also going to change you.
00:07:48.080 It's going to help you develop confidence.
00:07:49.940 It's going to help you develop clarity and discipline.
00:07:52.720 It's going to recharge you.
00:07:53.740 It's going to energize you.
00:07:54.940 And I promise it will change you.
00:07:57.880 So if you want to know more about the event, you want to get the details, head to orderaman.com slash uprising.
00:08:03.060 I've got the dates up, some of the activities, the registration pages up.
00:08:06.280 It is going to sell out quickly.
00:08:07.520 We only have 24 spots.
00:08:08.880 It's only four more than we had the first time.
00:08:10.960 And I would not be surprised if half of the guys from the last time decided to come again.
00:08:15.000 All of them want to come.
00:08:15.980 But of course, we've got the time commitment with other things they have going on.
00:08:18.860 So we will sell out quickly.
