00:00:00.000 You're a man of action. You live life to the fullest. Embrace your fears and boldly chart your own path.
00:00:06.020 When life knocks you down, you get back up one more time. Every time.
00:00:10.440 You are not easily deterred or defeated. Rugged. Resilient. Strong.
00:00:15.520 This is your life. This is who you are. This is who you will become.
00:00:19.760 At the end of the day, and after all is said and done, you can call yourself a man.
00:00:25.460 Gentlemen, what is going on today? My name is Ryan Michler and I am the host and the founder of Order of Man.
00:00:29.720 If you are new to the show today, I want to welcome you.
00:00:32.420 If you're not new to the show, I want to welcome you too.
00:00:34.940 In other words, regardless of how long you've been listening to Order of Man podcast, I am glad you're here.
00:00:39.860 For those of you who have been around for any amount of time, you know that this is the podcast for men.
00:00:44.660 Each and every week, we interview the world's most successful men, athletes, warriors, authors, scholars.
00:00:50.720 We extract their hard-earned lessons and then we bring them straight to you.
00:00:54.420 But we also have this show, our Friday Field Notes, where you hear from me exclusively.
00:00:57.900 My thoughts, my ideas, my inspirations, and the things that I think about on a day-to-day basis.
00:01:02.940 But before I get into the show today, I want to give you a couple of resources that I need you to check out.
00:01:07.160 First, if you want the show notes for this show, head to orderofman.com slash FFN, as in Friday Field Notes.
00:01:13.600 So FFN 039.
00:01:14.940 And second, join the, I think we're at 18,000 men now in our private Facebook group.
00:01:21.800 And you can do that at facebook.com slash groups slash Order of Man.
00:01:25.480 And third, make sure you check out our exclusive men's mastermind.
00:01:29.340 I'm going to talk a little bit more about this later in the show.
00:01:31.320 But for now, you can find out what we're all about at orderofman.com slash Iron Council.
00:01:36.100 Now, with all that said, I do want to get into the discussion of the show today, which is all about execution.
00:01:41.080 I'm going to keep this one short today because I've been pretty busy.
00:01:43.540 I've been down at the SHOT Show in Las Vegas over the past couple of days.
00:01:47.440 But this is going to tie in nicely to what I want to talk with you about today.
00:01:50.620 So over the past couple of days, I've had the opportunity to meet with some men that I really admire.
00:01:56.220 For how they show up in the world, the level of success that they've been able to reach in their prospective fields.
00:02:01.280 I had the chance to meet with Cameron Haynes.
00:02:03.120 He's an Under Armour athlete and avid bowhunter.
00:02:05.480 I know a lot of you guys are familiar with him.
00:02:07.380 Tony Sentman out with Real World Tactical.
00:02:09.400 Neil Curry with Reddy Gunner.
00:02:10.940 I met UFC fighter Donald Cowboy Cerrone.
00:02:12.900 These guys are all masters of their craft.
00:02:15.680 And I can tell you one thing that I think separates them from the rest of the pack.
00:02:20.660 It's the one thing that separates all successful men from the rest.
00:02:24.340 And that is the ability to take action.
00:02:26.280 The ability to execute.
00:02:27.860 The ability and desire even to get their hands dirty.
00:02:31.080 And I want to come straight out and ask you, are you willing to execute?
00:02:35.420 Are you willing to get your hands dirty?
00:02:36.980 Are you willing to step into the ring?
00:02:38.600 Brothers, you better be.
00:02:39.540 Because if you want to reach that potential, if you really want to have a killer relationship with your wife, if you really want to connect with your kids, if you really want to build up that bank account, if you want to lose that gut, or if you really want to start that business, or you really want whatever, you'd better be willing to get bruised, beat up, dirty for fighting for the things that you want most in this life.
00:03:02.180 I've met a lot of talkers.
00:03:04.900 I've met a lot of guys who have some big dreams.
00:03:07.060 I've met a lot of guys who talk a mean game.
00:03:09.060 I've been one of those guys myself.
00:03:10.820 That's behind me because I know that if I want to go big in this life, I'm going to have to show up big.
00:03:16.820 And that's what I want to talk to you about today.
00:03:18.580 We have enough talkers.
00:03:20.160 We have enough dreamers.
00:03:21.260 We have enough visionaries.
00:03:22.900 And I'm not even downplaying the importance of those types of people.
00:03:25.700 We need visionaries.
00:03:27.060 We need dreamers.
00:03:27.800 But if the world's biggest dreamers don't do anything with that knowledge and those inspirations they have and those ideas, none of it means a thing.
00:03:37.120 If you cannot turn insights into action, what good are those insights in the first place?
00:03:43.780 What good is it even having you around?
00:03:46.120 This is why I say that execution is the mark of a man.
00:03:49.780 It's manly to execute.
00:03:51.640 It's manly to get the job done.
00:03:53.420 But I know as I talk about this, someone's going to say to me, Ryan, not every man is a doer.
00:03:58.340 Some guys are visionaries.
00:03:59.480 Some guys are dreamers.
00:04:00.420 I get that.
00:04:01.200 I understand that.
00:04:02.120 I'm not even telling you that you have to execute in every single capacity in your life.
00:04:07.900 But I am telling you that you're going to have to step up to the plate and find someone who's going to get the job done and partner with them.
00:04:15.780 Or you're going to have to do the work yourself.
00:04:17.540 So I want to talk with you briefly about a four-part system that I've been thinking a lot about lately because I think this is going to help a lot of guys listening to face some of the fear that we might be feeling.
00:04:29.680 And that's been keeping you back and actually allow you to engage, which is what I'm talking again about with you today, in the work that's going to help you move that needle in the right direction.
00:04:40.060 So I want to break this down.
00:04:41.140 The first step to taking more action in your life, more execution, is to examine.
00:04:47.820 It's to think about what you actually want.
00:04:49.800 Action for action's sake is inefficient work.
00:04:52.540 It's a waste of time.
00:04:53.980 Consider what it is that you really want.
00:04:55.860 We've talked about this at length.
00:04:57.480 If you can't figure that out, do not move on to taking action because it's a lot like running around in circles with no clear destination.
00:05:04.360 But once you've actually identified what it is you want, what you want to accomplish, who you want to be, how you want to show up, you've got to move to phase two.
00:05:12.360 And phase two in this process is to figure out what you're actually going to do.
00:05:16.000 What is the plan of action?
00:05:17.160 If the first step is the what, this second step is the how.
00:05:20.600 How are you going to go about taking action?
00:05:23.000 What are you going to do first?
00:05:24.600 What are you going to do second?
00:05:25.780 What resources do you need?
00:05:27.420 Now, I know a lot of guys that get stuck in this phase because they think everything has to be perfect.
00:05:31.900 It doesn't.
00:05:32.680 Perfect is a myth.
00:05:33.580 Perfect is a trap.
00:05:35.920 Perfect, it doesn't even exist.
00:05:38.000 All you have to do is make an educated guess about what you think will work.
00:05:44.040 You know, if we were using the scientific method, for example, this would be your hypothesis.
00:05:48.740 And if you think about it like this, like an experiment, being wrong isn't going to be that big of a deal anymore.
00:05:54.740 It's an experiment.
00:05:55.680 Tim Ferriss actually talks a lot about this life as an experimentation.
00:05:58.700 And I can tell you that that dude has failed at times in his life.
00:06:02.540 But he doesn't allow that fear to keep him from the third step, the third phase, which I'm going to talk with you about here in a minute.
00:06:08.440 It's just a test.
00:06:09.900 And that's how he approaches his life.
00:06:11.260 And I encourage you to approach your life that way as well.
00:06:13.680 Now, the third step, guys, is to execute.
00:06:15.520 And this is the conversation of today.
00:06:16.960 It's to engage.
00:06:17.920 It's to do the work.
00:06:18.760 It's to put that theory to the test.
00:06:21.340 It's to ask that woman on a date. 0.84
00:06:23.100 It's to ask for that raise.
00:06:24.620 It's to start the business.
00:06:26.100 It's to ask for a sale.
00:06:28.080 It's to step into the gym.
00:06:29.520 It's to make that investment.
00:06:30.720 It's to sign up to coach your kids' team.
00:06:33.820 And it doesn't even need to be life-changing, earth-shattering work.
00:06:38.560 That's a huge misconception.
00:06:40.760 It just needs to be the first step.
00:06:42.740 You need to create victories and momentum.
00:06:45.900 And you do that by winning small and seemingly insignificant victories with the fear and the indecision that each and every one of us face on a daily basis.
00:06:57.740 You do that enough.
00:06:59.260 You compound those victories together over and over and over again.
00:07:03.260 And you will win.
00:07:04.400 Whatever winning looks like for you.
00:07:06.200 I know this can be tough.
00:07:08.360 I know it's scary to step into the unknown.
00:07:10.620 But you've got to decide if you're a man.
00:07:12.740 And if you are, then I'm telling you, you have to plant that flag of masculinity and decide today that men are doers, that we take action, and that we get the job done.
00:07:24.560 And here's how you're going to have the courage to do that.
00:07:27.060 Phase four.
00:07:28.320 You're going to have the courage to take the action you've previously been afraid to take because you know this fourth step.
00:07:34.480 And that fourth step is to evaluate.
00:07:36.960 You're going to go back at the end of the day, the end of the project, the activity, the conversation, and you're going to evaluate whether or not it worked.
00:07:45.660 Whether that hypothesis was right or not.
00:07:47.920 If it didn't, no big deal.
00:07:49.980 Because you're going to go back to the drawing board, draft up a new battle plan, and you're going to go through this exact process again until you find the winning combination.
00:07:58.980 Now, if it works, on the other hand, outstanding.
00:08:01.780 Just do that again. 0.98
00:08:03.240 And that's what I wanted to share with you today.
00:08:05.320 Like I said, it was going to be brief, but as I look around and I see these successful men at the SHOT Show,
00:08:09.500 I can't help but think that this strategy in some shape or form has helped these guys succeed at high levels,
00:08:16.620 and it's going to help you succeed at high levels too.
00:08:19.980 Again, it's examine.
00:08:21.200 It's estimate.
00:08:22.340 Third, probably the most important, execute.
00:08:25.140 And then fourth, evaluate.
00:08:26.740 That's the process, the formula for getting the job done.
00:08:29.280 And as a man, it is your responsibility to get the job done.
00:08:33.720 So if you want to learn more about how to do that, I encourage you to join us inside of our exclusive mastermind, the Iron Council.
00:08:40.040 We're sharing the tools, the resources, the guidance, direction, systems, the accountability to get the job done in your life.
