00:06:01.940 You got to know the divorce statistics. And the fact of the matter is the national divorce

00:06:07.860 statistics for regular people, Joe's off the street, is just under 50%. I think it's actually

00:06:13.140 about 47% for first-time marriages. For professional athletes, for a lot of reasons,

00:06:18.860 that number is way higher. It's closer to about 70%. And of that 70%, so you're batting about

00:06:25.900 50% higher than the general public. 50% of those divorces will come within one year

00:06:31.860 of your retirement from your sport. And that is a stunning number. And so, you know, a lot of these

00:06:37.400 athletes have beat the odds to become pros. And a lot of them think that because they've done that,

00:06:42.460 they're going to beat this statistic as well. But as you know, you can't beat statistics and

00:06:47.100 statistics are independent of one another. And so just because you beat the odds to become a

00:06:51.420 pro athlete doesn't mean you're going to beat the odds of things like bankruptcy and divorce.

00:06:56.720 You've got to recognize those numbers. That's the false dichotomy that a lot of men make when we

00:07:02.500 talk about these divorce stats. They act like you can avoid it just because you're successful in

00:07:10.540 other areas of your life. And it's just simply not true. It's kind of a cope for men that are

00:07:15.140 kind of scared of their wives. That's what I've noticed. It's men that are still in the good

00:07:18.760 parts of their marriage, like they're still having kids. It's not until after the kids are done

00:07:23.720 that the women really tend to become terrible people. And usually, it's like more of a reversion,

00:07:34.260 right? It's usually women reverting back to their hardware programming. Because what happens is women,

00:07:42.320 you know, not all women, but there's good women and bad women. But women, it's like,

00:07:47.720 I remember in school, there was a girl I played volleyball with, and she was so meed to everyone

00:07:53.240 on the court. She was so bitchy and just rude. And then, you know what would happen?

00:08:00.960 Her boyfriend would come around and I'd be like, that is a different person. So

00:08:05.400 women can put on a mask for other people and take it off when they get what they want.

00:08:52.940 And so you don't have a traditional family structure where you're sort of seeing your

00:08:56.680 family every night and then leaving in the morning. It's just not how it is. And then in

00:09:00.780 the off season, it tends to be very sort of perfect, right? Because you're trying to get

00:09:05.860 as much as you can in during that off season. You're going on tremendous vacations. You're

00:09:10.780 doing everything you can with the kids um it's just an amazing opportunity but that's not real

00:09:17.000 life and that's not the real life that most people live once you retire you go back to being for most

00:09:23.040 people sort of a normal person living a normal life but that's not the relationship you built

00:09:28.580 while you were yeah and i think a lot of women think they like the guy until they actually get

00:11:05.160 played since you were two years old and it's really hard mentally for guys is it to some degree

00:11:42.000 phases of life you know for for us regular schmoes that transition comes at age 65 or 70 or 75

00:11:48.920 but for these athletes it could be a 30 and all of a sudden you know you worked so hard on this

00:11:54.720 one thing to reach the pinnacle the the one percent of one percent of one percent to be a

00:11:59.520 pro athlete and then it's just and it's really hard to quit athletics i cried for like months

00:12:05.320 when i quit i cried for months i was so sad it's really hard because it's a really big part of your

00:12:10.400 life not the second time around because i played overseas but like you know after college it's not

00:12:16.340 really the same because no one really cares if you win but like if you win in high school or

00:12:22.640 college, your whole community is really invested. Over. And the paycheck's in. And now you've got

00:12:27.980 to find that next thing at age 30. When you have focused 100% of your efforts to be a pro,

00:12:33.860 that's really hard. I've had a lot of friends who have played across numerous different sports,

00:12:39.600 and they do have pension plans set up. But a lot of those don't kick in until 55, sometimes 65.

00:12:43.740 And sometimes it's a partial pension. Sometimes it's a full pension. When it comes to the

00:12:47.840 litigation of the divorce, separation, whatever it may be, that comes into play too. I'm a

00:12:52.620 assuming it does so you can get a divorce decree that says half of the pension eventually will come

00:12:58.520 to that former spouse so that's all on the table and all right so the next thing we're going to
