00:00:10.640 motherfucking CEO guys today we're going to talk about excellence we're going to talk about why 0.87

00:00:17.160 it's important we're going to talk about why it is something that you need to strive for we've all 0.99

00:00:22.520 heard that saying focus on progress not perfection you know what I think that's bullshit because if

00:00:29.500 you focus on being perfect and you try to do everything the best you can you cannot help but 0.98

00:00:34.940 make progress and you know when people say oh well focus on progress not perfection it sounds so whiny 0.98

00:00:42.600 so cry baby and so bitchy that I feel like people use it as an excuse to try and justify their half-ass 1.00

00:00:50.660 efforts on a daily basis you know and we all know that's true look at the people out there who struggle

00:00:56.600 in everything they do what is their ultimate thing they say oh well I'm doing the best that I can 0.99

00:01:01.280 no you're fucking not you're not doing the best you can you're focusing on the fucking progress you're 0.99

00:01:07.820 not trying to be better you're not trying to improve you're not trying to be perfect you're 1.00

00:01:12.700 trying to pretend that you are focusing on getting better so that you can at least say well I'm trying 0.70

00:01:18.940 and dude that doesn't get you shit all right so we're going to get into that in a minute before we do 0.72

00:01:25.420 I want to address something with you guys and ask you guys for a little favor 0.93

00:01:29.840 you know we our podcast we do for free okay and we give out a lot of information that I could be

00:01:40.320 charging a lot of money for and we do it every week for free we give a lot of time and I spent a lot 0.97

00:01:45.380 of money to do this you know Vaughn and Tyler don't do this shit for free all right 0.50

00:01:49.300 um I would appreciate if you guys could go to iTunes and leave us a review and also actually 0.56

00:01:58.160 subscribe to the podcast because those two things actually help improve our rankings uh amongst all

00:02:05.520 the other podcasts and while we're consistently in the top 10 I want to be number one and I think

00:02:11.880 we do the best job I think we give the best information I think we do deserve to be in that spot not

00:02:17.300 just for the sake of being there but because we do the best job all right we're giving you the real

00:02:23.860 deal holy field of how to be successful on a weekly basis and if you guys you know find value in this

00:02:30.200 podcast if you like it if you're you know if you're learning from it if you're improving from it please

00:02:35.720 go on and leave us a review and make sure you actually subscribe because those two things drive

00:02:40.460 rankings if you've left us a review in the past please try to leave us a new review uh you know if you

00:02:46.620 have friends who need to listen to the podcast you know spread the word of mouth let them know about

00:02:52.460 it you know those things are that's really all I ask for in return for what we do here um so if you

00:02:58.220 could do those things it would be greatly appreciated as always I'm joined by my co-host Vaughn the

00:03:04.020 pastor of disaster what's going on man things are good but I wanted to mention too if people go to the

00:03:10.680 the dedicated uh page that I have for kind of helping people understand how you subscribe because

00:03:16.440 it can be tricky it's uh themfceo.com forward slash subscribe and I would just say this guys you

00:03:22.740 know I try to be thorough I try to be clear in how you subscribe please don't email us and say well I

00:03:29.120 have a special phone and I can't figure it out just figure it out just figure it out you can't figure

00:03:34.780 you know I mean uh Andy provides a lot of value and uh it's worth a little you know three to five

00:03:39.860 minutes of your time to figure out how to subscribe I think so yeah so anyway what else going on

00:03:44.560 well uh it's gonna be a good weekend uh it's just it's beautiful in St. Louis I got a few things

00:03:50.140 planned with my wife we got planned uh we're gonna go to a bed back beyond yeah right a little nice

00:03:56.380 little Saturday right actually we're gonna go to a party that I wondered if Emily was gonna be at

00:04:00.200 is Emily gonna be at a party tonight no okay well it was she's gonna be at my pants party

00:04:05.140 it's a local it's a local magazine party that she has written for so am I invited to the pants party

00:04:11.360 always Tyler always right so uh that and then uh you know I don't know I might trick out our uh Versa 0.89

00:04:19.220 yeah yeah put some spinners on it some spinners on it yeah real gangster shit yeah so you know we 0.75

00:04:26.100 talked about money last week and we talked about you know uh how people think money is wrong and how 0.98

00:04:34.420 people think uh you know the wrong things about money which ultimately keeps them from getting any

00:04:39.100 money and I got to thinking about this a little more and you know the we talked about how people

00:04:46.700 who make a lot of money don't focus on money and I I want to kind of you know unravel that for

00:04:52.340 everybody in this episode and talk about why the elite earners of our society focus on excellence

00:04:59.100 and perfection and everything they do and that's why they earn money and so that's what we're going

00:05:03.660 to talk about because um and what's funny is is I you know I think it's weird that we have not

00:05:09.500 covered this subject before right you know went through all 150 episodes without ever hitting this

00:05:14.940 and it's I mean it's the subtext of everything right on the assumption right yeah yeah so so we talk

00:05:21.000 about like you know people who focus on results who focus on solving a problem who focus on providing

00:05:27.680 a service make the most money those people focus on doing that thing in a perfect manner they don't

00:05:34.260 focus on doing it half-ass or you know uh cutting a corner or this or that they focused on being not

00:05:41.160 just a solution but and I think it's important to note the best possible solution and you know what

00:05:46.800 you're not always going to be the best possible solution when you're in business because ultimately

00:05:51.400 business is very competitive and other people are going to see what you do and they're going to copy

00:05:56.760 what you do and sometimes when they copy what you do they're going to improve upon what you do

00:06:00.920 and then it's your job to pay attention to the landscape go out and improve upon that which is what

00:06:06.500 ultimately evolves the marketplace so I think it's important to note that like all improvement all

00:06:12.460 evolution all growth of society is driven by people who pursue the best possible result at all times

00:06:21.160 right and you know do people really consider that and and break that down and think about how our society

00:06:29.500 has evolved you know all the great technologies all the great ideas all the great luxuries that we have

00:06:35.520 in our lives those all came from people who pursued excellence to to improve upon something that

00:06:43.720 already existed you know and that's what causes evolution so a lot of people and I think people

00:06:50.500 need to realize this in business this is part of natural business growth you know you're going to be in

00:06:56.000 business it's your it's your duty as a business owner or the member of a company to pay attention what

00:07:02.420 everybody else is doing and when something else comes out you're going to have to adjust and improve

00:07:07.940 upon that and a lot of businesses and a lot of CEOs and a lot of quote-unquote entrepreneurs and people

00:07:14.020 small business especially you know they continue to do the same thing without ever evolving and ever

00:07:19.080 improving and ever changing their product and dude that's why they lose that's why they die so the goal

00:07:25.020 would be to get in that dogfight and continue to try to be the most excellent as Bill and Ted

00:07:30.840 uh Bill and Ted would tell you right you just dated yourself a little bit but so if I understand you

00:07:35.840 correctly basically for the last 150 episodes you you've been telling everybody how to be excellent

00:07:40.920 and kind of assuming that people understood why and now you're gonna you're gonna unpack yeah I

00:07:45.460 want to break that down because I think it's a I think it's a a worthy topic to really talk about

00:07:50.140 absolutely you know what I mean because I think a lot of people get lost like especially business

00:07:53.960 owners or people who are moving them their way up in a business like let's say you're a middle

00:08:00.860 management guy uh and you're in a growing company and you've been doing pretty good but then you know

00:08:08.180 this new guy comes along and he's doing better than you and instead of like observing him and saying

00:08:13.740 okay uh he does this well this well this well I need to brush up my game here and get better than him

00:08:18.420 at that people just say oh well that dude's better than me and he's gonna get all the opportunity and

00:08:22.700 they just keep doing what they're doing and then they wonder why they never you know get where they

00:08:26.820 want to go because they get stale they don't grow they don't evolve and that level and perception of

00:08:32.460 pursuit of excellence and competition mixed together is what ultimately keeps people evolving no matter if

00:08:39.320 you're the owner or if you're a management or you're entry level you know you have to you have to look

00:08:44.600 at the people who you're competing against and if you're in a company uh you might be on the same team

00:08:48.980 with a lot of same people but you're still competing against them you know and you have to look at those

00:08:54.200 people and say all right this dude's got this this this down I need to get better at this this this so

00:08:58.580 he doesn't beat me and then he's and if that guy's good he's gonna look at you and say man that guy

00:09:02.580 stepped up his game now I'm gonna step up my game and that level of competition over and over and over

00:09:07.520 that's what ultimately drives the growth and and and productivity and profitability and earning

00:09:15.420 potential of every single person inside of an organization yeah that uh that attitude that you

00:09:21.100 said that the guy had well oh well he's just better I think that also betrays the assumption that it's a

00:09:25.300 zero-sum game and if he's excellent it means well I guess I can't be you know yeah yeah like like

00:09:30.520 there's a scarcity uh of excellence right right a scarcity of excellence or that things are fixed

00:09:35.960 like he's better and that's just the way he's got more talent rather than dynamic like well

00:09:40.800 okay he's better now but five years from now I could be better than him so it's it's it is a it

00:09:47.280 is an overall negative mentality that a it's scarce scarce and b it's static it's never gonna change

00:09:53.040 right and and I think most people get stuck in their most people that get stuck in their careers

00:09:58.920 and their jobs get stuck for one or two reasons one they're in a company they're not aware enough

00:10:02.860 to notice that the company's not growing and they don't have any upside to what they're doing

00:10:06.160 maybe three reasons two if they're in that situation they don't take it upon themselves

00:10:11.880 to grow the company you know you the ceo doesn't have to be a guy to grow the company

00:10:15.640 you know what I mean and if you want to create extreme value you could be the middle management

00:10:19.100 guy and figure out how to fucking grow or uh three you know they just assume that uh people are better 0.92

00:10:27.000 and that's the way it is so they stay where they are right you know right before you get into your 0.88

00:10:32.400 specifics I just read this study that basically said that most people think creativity is a is a

00:10:38.840 natural talent and the study has concluded and it's just been this exhaustive thing over the last

00:10:44.020 couple years the study concluded that yeah there are people who have a penchant for creativity but 90

00:10:49.420 percent of creativity and innovation is a learned quality or learned um attribute and I you know

00:10:57.280 they were saying it's like a muscle just the more you the more you work at it the more you develop

00:11:02.140 right and I do think that there are people deep in their hearts if they thought about it they're

00:11:05.900 like well Andy's just born with this disposition that he's competitive and he's excellent yeah and

00:11:13.320 that I just don't have it people people say that about everything like I just had a conversation with

00:11:17.660 a friend yesterday who was telling me and I've I've gone through social media how to grow use your

00:11:25.100 Facebook ads and and create good content with her over and over and over and and she asked me yesterday

00:11:33.360 do you think so and so could help me with my social media I'm like what are you what are you

00:11:39.120 talking about I already told you everything that you need to do and she goes well I'm just not good

00:11:44.520 at that and I'm like well the answer to that is is not to say oh I'm not good at that the answer

00:11:48.900 is to get fucking good at it you know what I mean like everybody kicks the can down the road by saying 0.57

00:11:54.460 oh that's not my thing I'm good at this or oh that's not my thing I'm good at that the opportunity 0.98

00:11:59.680 for growth is in that thing that you're not good at that you're telling yourself I can't learn or I

00:12:04.800 can't do or I can't become good at you know what I mean right and people just don't they see it as a

00:12:10.100 hindrance as opposed to an opportunity and that's what really fucks them up you know so you can't 1.00

00:12:15.420 you can't look at these things as you can't learn them you should be looking at them as like oh I

00:12:21.300 have an opportunity to improve here here's how I improve but dude at the end of the day the reason 0.86

00:12:24.920 people don't do that is because they don't want to do the fucking work you know what I mean they 0.99

00:12:28.240 just don't want to fucking do it they don't want to do the fucking work they don't want to put in 0.99

00:12:31.440 the time they don't want to put in the effort they don't want to start from scratch you know this is 0.99

00:12:35.560 especially for people who have already been in business for a while and they just gets complacent and

00:12:40.040 you know once somebody's in that mindset there's it's really kind of all downhill

00:12:44.640 so it is funny they don't put those like those correlating things together that you know the 0.99

00:12:51.240 more skill sets that you have more valuable your business it's basic you know shit it's basic to us 0.59

00:12:59.480 but I mean you know people people define themselves in different ways especially mentally and they say 0.89

00:13:06.120 oh I'm not good at that I can't do that and when you say that guess what's going to happen you're

00:13:10.500 never going to be any good at it what you said Tyler makes me think and what we've been talking

00:13:15.360 about it is crazy how many people you know we we assume things we know why we do certain things

00:13:21.660 but it is amazing how many people just don't even understand why they do things and I remember being

00:13:27.340 in my master's program for English and writing and asking my professor so why'd you go into why'd you

00:13:33.220 go into you know teaching English literature and I was just shocked at her her response she stopped for a

00:13:40.500 like that's a good question I don't really know and I'm thinking you don't know but it is it is very

00:13:47.940 common for people not to evaluate why they do things and so that's why I think it's super important

00:13:53.840 that we're going to be talking through this yeah so um I've broken this down basically into five

00:14:00.460 different points that we can go through uh and we're just you know we'll we'll state the point and

00:14:05.120 we'll talk about it like we usually do um the first point is this and this is very very important

00:14:11.980 and we've talked about confidence before in other podcasts and why it's important but we're going to

00:14:17.160 talk about in terms of excellence you know and you guys have to understand that and this is the point

00:14:21.860 without confidence you can't really stay on course in life okay you're not going to be able to

00:14:27.700 persevere you're not going to be able to go chase your goals and dreams you're not going to be able to

00:14:32.120 fight through the hard times and you can't ever get a true confidence unless your life is defined

00:14:39.220 and characterized by the pursuit of excellence and if you want to put that in like a more simple way

00:14:45.160 it's basically this you can't feel good about yourself if you do things half-ass if you're not 0.98

00:14:50.960 doing things good you're not going to feel good no matter what the fucking unicorns of society tell us 0.98

00:14:55.940 these days they say oh you should feel good about this because you tried you I don't care how many 0.97

00:15:02.020 times somebody says that tell me the last time that you felt good about something when you tried 0.99

00:15:07.600 but you didn't do it well not very good it doesn't happen it doesn't happen not one fucking person 0.99

00:15:14.520 listening to this podcast right now can can name me a time and I want you guys to think about this as 0.99

00:15:20.500 I'm saying this name me a time that you felt good about something that you did that you fucking sucked 0.98

00:15:28.080 that that you did half-ass okay it could be something as simple as sweeping the floor you saw a couple 0.99

00:15:34.700 crumbs over in the corner you said I'll fuck those crumbs and you got the rest of them do you feel good 0.99

00:15:39.420 about the job you did no it's in our human DNA to only feel good when we do things well and that's why I 0.99

00:15:48.820 always tell people you know the work comes before the belief and you know to define that and break that

00:15:55.580 down if you haven't listened to that episode nobody believes in the beginning you know the people 0.99

00:16:01.300 who built the fucking pyramids didn't believe they could build the pyramids they said fuck it we're 0.99

00:16:06.280 gonna build the fucking pyramids and we'll see what happens and they went out and they built the first 1.00

00:16:11.480 two or three levels and then they said oh you know what this is this is actually coming together 0.99

00:16:16.220 pretty nice and then they said all right let's build three more levels and then they built three

00:16:20.460 more and they're like oh you know what this is still working let's keep going and then they get

00:16:24.400 halfway done and they say oh you know what this is going to work this is going to be awesome this

00:16:30.100 is going to be a wonder of the world this is going to be the greatest tomb in the history of earth 0.96

00:16:34.580 and they build something that lasts for fucking I don't know how many years Professor Vaughn 0.95

00:16:39.920 centuries I have no idea long fucking time yeah you know we're still talking about it but the point 0.94

00:16:45.180 is is that they didn't you know very very very very very few people in the beginning and I'm talking 0.79

00:16:52.400 about when I say in the beginning I mean in the be your entrepreneurial age all right that's a new

00:16:58.220 term right your entrepreneurial age it's not your physical age it's your entrepreneurial age which

00:17:02.580 means if you're starting out thinking like an entrepreneur not actually owning a business because

00:17:07.920 you should be thinking like an entrepreneur even if you're working in a business but if we start

00:17:13.740 thinking like an entrepreneur at 35 your entrepreneurial age is one all right you see what I'm saying right 0.96

00:17:18.860 so when you have a young entrepreneurial age it's hard to fucking believe it's hard for you to believe 0.83

00:17:24.500 it can be done it's hard for you to believe that you can improve but after you have some faith and

00:17:31.860 this is where faith comes into the process people like to associate the word faith with religion and

00:17:36.540 God and all this shit but it's just as powerful in the relevance of this con context you've got to 0.51

00:17:43.180 have faith that the job can get done okay and when the job you can't believe in the job in the beginning 0.96

00:17:50.680 you got to just go out and start doing it and eventually you're going to see a little bit of

00:17:55.800 result and then your belief is going to grow eventually your result you're going to see a

00:17:59.320 little bit more result your belief is going to become stronger and as your entrepreneurial age

00:18:03.560 progresses and you've accomplished one two five seven things big things that you didn't know were

00:18:10.340 possible now you get to me where my entrepreneurial age is like I don't know 30 years old because I've

00:18:17.720 been doing it since I was eight seven you know what I'm saying right I believe I can do anything

00:18:23.200 like I don't see limits I believe anything I do I could do and I just know we just got to go do it

00:18:28.340 and we can make it work if as long as we as long as we go out and start doing it we'll figure it out

00:18:33.020 along the way and that is is what the work before the belief ultimately means and why it's so important

00:18:41.300 so to apply that to your uh your your pyramids analogy so when they're done with that then the

00:18:48.120 pharaoh comes along and says hey guys I want you to I want you to build the sphinx right and the

00:18:52.140 inexperienced guys go oh man yeah but the guys that build the it's gonna be cake yeah it's gonna be easy

00:18:57.860 because they already did it exactly and you know how this applies to excellence is is is basically

00:19:04.860 guys in very simple terms the more you master this concept you know whether like I said it's

00:19:11.340 sweeping the floor or leading a massive fortune 500 organization the more you feel like you're in

00:19:18.300 control the more you feel like the master of your whole entire existence okay and that's what you have

00:19:24.760 to understand confidence is super important to the pursuit of excellence because if you don't believe

00:19:31.720 that you can do it why would you do it the best that you can you see what I'm saying because like

00:19:37.720 a lot of people dude if they don't believe that they can do something or do a good job they just don't

00:19:42.020 try you know what I mean right does that make sense yeah it it does and I'm I've got this thought

00:19:47.540 sort of germinating in my mind is that I see it you you you talk about being excellent in the way that

00:19:53.400 you sweep the floor and it's amazing because people just don't see the connection between that

00:19:59.580 and that and and where you're at right now where you're you know you're experiencing a lot of you

00:20:05.420 know success as other people define it and you've got loads of money in the bank and and and you feel

00:20:10.560 good about yourself the average person I just don't think they they see okay sweeping the floor this

00:20:16.240 little task so it doesn't seem to connect I don't see but what you're saying is no you got to

00:20:22.680 approach that like it's a huge building block look this goes right into my next point okay so

00:20:27.520 let's let's start that and then I'll tie that together okay so the next point point number two

00:20:32.280 is that pursuing excellence protects you from the danger of laziness okay and yeah danger it's a

00:20:41.180 danger it's very dangerous because laziness is a habit all right excellence is a habit and this is goes

00:20:48.020 into what you were saying about sweeping the floor whether it's picking up a speck of of trash that

00:20:54.640 you see that isn't yours you know or or sweeping the floor perfect to where there's not one speck of

00:21:00.380 dust taking pride in everything you do doing everything excellent creates the habit of doing

00:21:07.320 everything excellent so the same thing with laziness like if you skip over that little pile of dirt in the

00:21:13.160 corner or you let that piece of trash uh lay there when when you're the guy even if it wasn't yours and

00:21:18.460 you let it stay there and you don't pick it up you're creating a habit of laziness and that's going to

00:21:23.300 poor people think that's no big deal they think oh yeah you know it's just that piece of paper it's just the 0.91

00:21:27.880 floor well then it's just you know then it's just your uh your reports oh it's just the reports that I

00:21:33.900 got to turn in oh it's just my uh my appointments oh that's just a meeting you know and then you know what 0.98

00:21:39.760 oh it's just your fucking paycheck yeah you know what I mean yeah and so these guys they don't 0.94

00:21:45.840 understand that you know the reason I'm so I make such a huge people that work here understand this 0.99

00:21:51.960 but people might not understand this other places because the reason that I take everything so

00:21:56.860 serious and I'm so against people half-assing thing is because it creates not only a habit of laziness

00:22:04.540 but it kills the the first point which is the confidence in your ability to do excellent work

00:22:09.380 you see what I'm saying so remember when we had Will Compton on the show many many moons ago yeah I

00:22:16.040 remember his his coach at Nebraska said how you do one thing is how you do everything yeah and that's

00:22:21.780 become a pretty mainstream saying yeah I see it everywhere but I think it's 100 true yeah and how

00:22:27.080 you do everything is who you become basically yeah yeah whether that be how you fold the laundry

00:22:32.100 how you make your bed how and you know by the way I don't make the bed because I know Emily listens to 0.94

00:22:36.560 the podcast or she's like what the fuck are you talking about but I definitely don't make the bed 0.99

00:22:41.320 but when if I if I did make the bed motherfucker look good you know what I mean yeah I'm all or 0.99

00:22:47.780 nothing yeah but the point is is that everything that you attempt to do should be done with the 0.97

00:22:55.940 intention of it being perfect so I think part of that is because deep down you know if you do

00:23:02.920 half-asset people can lie to themselves but deep down you know well yeah that you that you have

00:23:08.660 that you have to deal with that you could put on deal with that guilt well and you could put on the

00:23:12.580 front all you want about how how uh you know great you do and how good you do and this and that and

00:23:18.860 but at the end of the day you've got to sleep at night and you know you're going to be holding

00:23:23.380 yourself accountable whether you want to or not it's just part of human nature and and part of

00:23:27.860 building that true pride and belief and and feeling of excellence is doing everything with that with

00:23:34.400 that same feeling you know what I mean not cutting any corners not doing anything to save time doing

00:23:39.460 it the right way every time and and something I think that is important to point out here is that

00:23:44.720 you know a lot of people look at other people and they say oh they're natural born leaders well you

00:23:48.500 know why they're natural born leaders they're not natural born leaders those people just pursue

00:23:53.540 excellence in their own actions and other people notice it and so when it comes to managing and it

00:23:58.520 comes to being a leader when it comes to being an executive or a manager or a ceo or any of these

00:24:02.960 other things a coach a player a captain on a team whatever it is your leadership role parent

00:24:08.460 people pay way more attention to what you do than what you say and you know I know everybody

00:24:14.440 everybody uh has heard the saying by Vince Lombardi uh lean by example isn't the only or isn't the best

00:24:21.480 way to lead it's the only way to lead it's so true and it and it comes down to pursuit of excellence in

00:24:27.180 your own actions you know if you're if you're out there and you're a manager and you're not doing the

00:24:33.260 things that you require your employees to do or ask your employees to do and they see that

00:24:37.800 why why on earth would they do it if you're not doing it it's just not going to happen you know and

00:24:44.740 you know unfortunately that's what people do they they they tell people what to do instead of like

00:24:50.960 leading people with how they do it so that's kind of off track but um moving on point number three is

00:25:01.240 pursuing excellence is going to improve the quality of your social life and and the equality of your

00:25:07.780 social life is very very very important because who you surround yourself with is who you're going

00:25:14.940 to become okay you're not going to get in the right circle you're not going to get around high earners

00:25:20.580 creative people people with the right connections which are all very important

00:25:24.680 without being the kind of person that pursues excellence in everything that they do okay there's not one

00:25:32.900 person i know in my circle that's lazy at all in any way okay in fact i might be the laziest one

00:25:39.560 these people are focused they're driven they are detail oriented in everything that they do

00:25:46.460 and those are the people that like we talked about a couple episodes ago those are the people that bring

00:25:52.520 opportunities those are the people that you create new businesses with change new products evolve grow

00:25:58.100 earn money and if you don't have that habit you're not going to get into groups like that you're going

00:26:04.200 to get into groups that are like you you're going to get in with people who cut corners you're going

00:26:08.980 to get in with people who do shit half-ass you're going to be surrounded by people who don't necessarily 0.97

00:26:14.380 earn high levels of income and if you can't get out of that circle you're going to stay in that circle 0.99

00:26:21.600 in terms of what your life has become so if i understand you correctly though it's not like you

00:26:27.800 have to seek uh the high earners the higher achievers you're saying if you become that kind

00:26:33.840 of person it will be it will happen naturally yes you'll naturally attracts like a hundred percent

00:26:38.260 birds of a feather flock together as they've said yes and it doesn't have to be by design that's

00:26:42.680 another thing we can like kind of go off track on a lot of these young like young entrepreneurs 0.76

00:26:47.440 gary v has everybody fucking dming everybody now like he's been posting he's been have you seen 0.99

00:26:52.980 that hey how to dm and collab on fucking instagram send motherfuckers a dm and eight hours a day get 1.00

00:27:01.400 the fuck out of here you send me 10 dms i'm gonna block you because you're fucking annoying okay that 1.00

00:27:07.360 doesn't work dming people saying hey let's collab that's some bullshit i don't care what anybody says 1.00

00:27:13.040 that shit ain't gonna work it ain't gonna fucking ever work if you want to fucking 1.00

00:27:17.180 collab with somebody go out camp out their front fucking door and figure out how you can be a 1.00

00:27:22.640 value to them until they fucking figure it out dming people for eight hours a day is a waste of 0.99

00:27:26.940 your fucking time right period and i think you know because this has happened to me i'm sure it's 1.00

00:27:31.300 happened way dude you should see my fucking dms thanks gary motherfucker you know what i'm saying 1.00

00:27:36.200 no i agree like hey bro let's collab what are we gonna collab on right what are we gonna collab on like 0.99

00:27:41.960 let what are we fucking we're gonna go dancing you know like what what what you are begin you are 0.98

00:27:48.440 you are entrepreneurial age one i'm entrepreneurial age 30 what the fuck are we gonna do together 0.99

00:27:53.600 you get it and have you ever gotten the dms that say uh well i can see you and i share the same values 0.95

00:28:00.800 and and i'm so excited that you share my values look and it's like and you look at it and you look at

00:28:07.080 their social media and they're clearly haven't done anything they've got like four posts i'm not

00:28:10.780 knocking anybody's hustle but that's the wrong way to hustle that's what i mean it's it's insulting to

00:28:15.400 say you and i are so alike no no no not just that but the dm thing yeah like i'm bro like i dm'd you 0.92

00:28:22.160 check them like dude i don't check my fucking dms i don't have a team of people that were on my social 0.99

00:28:27.880 media you know if you notice i don't have all the fancy graphics and shit like i got fucking me and i got 0.99

00:28:33.480 tyler and guess what we do other shit besides this you know what i'm saying we're running a 0.97

00:28:37.860 company uh so dm and me is going to be a waste of your fucking time i don't check them and it's you 1.00

00:28:45.820 know i i just i kind of want to punch gary in the fucking nose like bro why are you telling people to 0.99

00:28:52.760 do this it's you know what i mean yeah like 100 of people i'm guessing without me saying this would 0.99

00:28:59.220 have heard what you just said saying we don't have a graphics team you don't have new graphics coming

00:29:03.360 up every day nobody's gonna reach out to you and be like hey bro i made this for you you know yeah

00:29:10.820 not one person will say hey i'll take care of that for you let me exactly yeah right and then carve out

00:29:15.380 a place on the team there's there's how you collect exactly right no i don't want anything in return

00:29:20.180 but i wanted to i mean give you these five god bless gary dude everybody knows i love gary but what 0.99

00:29:24.580 the fuck bro you know what i'm saying a radical increase in your dms huh anyway yeah don't fucking do 0.98

00:29:32.860 that all right so uh where were we can i can i recap yeah okay so uh first three points are 1.00

00:29:42.140 number one without confidence you can't really stay on course in life you can't persevere in your goals

00:29:47.100 and dreams and you cannot get true confidence unless your life is characterized by the habit of

00:29:52.020 excellence number two pursuing excellence protects you from the danger of laziness uh number three pursuing

00:29:59.080 excellence is going to improve the quality of your social life and really your whole experience

00:30:02.680 of human society yeah and i'll move right into number four because it goes right along with everything

00:30:09.340 else and we'll just keep this moving the pursuit of excellent guys is going to make you highly resilient

00:30:16.120 okay and what that means is when bad shit happens to you you're not going to be as affected by the bad 0.95

00:30:22.760 shit as you would be if you weren't the kind of person who pursues excellence all right people who 0.99

00:30:29.420 half-ass things they they they have bad things happen to them and they shut the fuck down people who pursue 1.00

00:30:35.960 excellence and try to do everything they can when bad shit happens to them they say hey you know what 0.98

00:30:40.600 all right that probably wasn't the best way to do that so let's adjust and let's go at it again

00:30:46.860 and then if that happens again all right well we learned two ways now not to do that up until as

00:30:53.560 many times as it takes how many times it takes thomas edison to invent the light bulb 10,000 times 10,000

00:31:00.680 times and if you just do that if you understand that if you understand that every bad thing or you know

00:31:07.840 the sky's falling situation that happens to you is an is an opportunity for you to adjust and go at it

00:31:15.200 again failure is impossible it's impossible you'll figure it out if the fact of the matter is is that

00:31:22.480 you have to have the core values of pursuit of excellence to do that because if you don't have

00:31:26.540 that tenacity and you don't have that drive you don't have that ambition to be the best you're going

00:31:31.900 to quit when bad shit happens and that's that's where the resilience comes in well i love edison's

00:31:37.800 quote when they said how did you persevere through those 10,000 failures he said those weren't failures 0.81

00:31:43.280 i learned 10,000 ways how not to make a light bulb but that's that's so accurate i mean it's amazing

00:31:49.740 that that mindset right yeah i mean it's why we're still saying his name years later right 100 120

00:31:57.440 years yeah whatever it is you know and people have to understand that part of committing to excellence

00:32:02.920 is is the will to win it's the will to be the best no matter what it takes over and over and over 0.88

00:32:09.700 again and that means you have to like be stubborn as fuck to make sure that no matter what happens 0.95

00:32:16.000 no matter what comes down the pipe no matter what hits you in the face you are going to see it as 0.98

00:32:20.460 something positive because you're going to see it as oh okay well i understand now that that's not

00:32:26.520 going to be the best way to do this so i'm going to adjust my technique i'm going to regroup i'm going 0.64

00:32:31.400 to stand back up i'm a dust off and i'm going to fucking go at it again and you repeat that process 0.99

00:32:35.940 over and over and over and that's the thing about entrepreneurship that people don't understand 0.98

00:32:39.900 is where you know people like to throw around the fucking buzzwords hustle grit blah blah blah 1.00

00:32:44.240 no it is grit it's true fucking grit it's getting up when you've been punched in the fucking mouth 1.00

00:32:50.340 over and over and over and over again until you knock that motherfucker out and that's how it goes 1.00

00:32:56.640 the beautiful thing about what we're talking about is that you're in control of how many times you get 1.00

00:33:01.940 up you're in control how many times you dust off you're in control how many times you go back at

00:33:06.860 it and people you know they get this idea in their head that if they failed one two or five times then 0.99

00:33:13.980 then you know then they're not going to do it dude motherfucker people fail 500 times 5,000 times 0.97

00:33:21.280 it's just a matter of having that grit and that will to win and the will to be the best no matter what 0.98

00:33:28.740 happens until you figure it out and you become the best and it's not any more complicated or difficult

00:33:36.200 than that and that's where the the core value of pursuing excellence in everything you do the habit

00:33:42.240 of pursuing excellence in everything you do comes into play you know that's why sweeping the floor

00:33:47.840 perfectly matters that's why you know cleaning your house perfectly matters that's why doing the extra

00:33:56.320 two reps in the gym matter you know everything fucking matters because it's all contributing 0.93

00:34:02.300 to the core personality traits and character traits that we're developing which are ultimately formed 0.84

00:34:10.260 from habit you follow me absolutely so i as you were talking i was just thinking you know the average

00:34:16.140 person they look at pain and suffering trial and tribulation as an excuse to stop working but anybody

00:34:21.600 anybody anybody who's actually done shit sees that as an excuse you know what i mean like like when 0.96

00:34:28.380 people like i do look through my dms i just don't respond because i there's no way i fucking could 0.98

00:34:33.880 it's just it's impossible the shit that people fucking tell me about like why they're not able to do 0.99

00:34:42.580 something or this or that it's it's like i'm like sitting here and i'm like have you watched like my shit 0.99

00:34:48.400 like if you have you listened to my do you know what i would actually say if i responded to you 1.00

00:34:53.100 like i would tell you you're a fucking bitch it's almost like they're trolling you no they're not 1.00

00:34:57.600 they're serious yeah you know what i mean it's like have you paid attention to anything i've been 1.00

00:35:03.160 saying you know what i mean yeah no i do but you know i just like i said the the the average people

00:35:08.980 they the minute they hit challenge they use it as an excuse but it really is amazing because the elite

00:35:13.740 of the elite you know they encounter pain and suffering trial and tribulation and to them it's

00:35:18.540 an opportunity for an even greater glory and greatness i you know i was thinking

00:35:22.140 exactly yeah exactly i mean i i'm not you know tyler's the resident patriots fan here and i'm i'm not a

00:35:30.080 patriots fan but you got to believe like somebody like tom brady at halftime of the super bowl last

00:35:36.800 year there might have been people who were like oh crap we're dead and i i really everybody thought that

00:35:42.240 right and i truly believe that at some point in his mind he said this is awesome i have the i have

00:35:47.480 the opportunity to have the greatest comeback in nfl super bowl history and that's just the way that

00:35:52.320 he had to have thought that otherwise it wouldn't happen he had to have right and i mean that's i'm

00:35:56.820 in awe of that i mean let's face it that's that is truly amazing yeah especially when you consider

00:36:01.140 the scape uh or i mean the scope and the scale of of what you're facing there with the whole world

00:36:07.260 watching and the pressure and right the the actual statistics that they can show you that you're not

00:36:11.820 going to fucking do this like that's insane that's an insane belief right or even the even the 0.99

00:36:16.980 temptation that i'm sure players have to say well you know the atlanta falcons they're just a darn 0.99

00:36:21.560 good team and we've you know we've done our best but they have an amazing offense and it's just their

00:36:27.480 time that clearly didn't even cross his mind nope you know nope and that's champion that's the

00:36:33.560 difference between somebody who wins and somebody who's in the hall of fame right you know i'm saying

00:36:37.900 right because like there's a whole not there's always another another level that dude's on

00:36:41.940 another level right well that's the thing he already had four super bowls yeah he didn't need

00:36:45.580 a fifth but right you know but i'm but it's not even about that that's that's not even what it's

00:36:50.140 about for him i guarantee you he did not think oh i need a fifth super bowl he said it didn't that 0.96

00:36:55.780 would not matter to him if that if that was a fucking scrimmage he would have fucking went at it the 0.93

00:37:00.600 same way and that's what creating a habit of excellence does it doesn't matter if you're playing in the 0.99

00:37:06.380 fucking super bowl or if you're playing in the fucking backyard thanksgiving you're trying to 0.98

00:37:11.560 fucking win and they don't adjust their technique based upon the scale of the event it's just who 0.99

00:37:20.720 they are and i think that's important for somebody to really think about you know think about that in 0.99

00:37:27.240 terms of your job or your career or whatever it is you know are you looking at certain things and

00:37:32.040 saying oh well uh you know this is only that so i'm gonna only you know get by with this much effort

00:37:41.280 you know what i mean right well i knew we could only talk about excellence so so long before you

00:37:46.040 would get into your favorite topic of winning well your favorite sport is winning yeah right i love that

00:37:51.440 i love that quote so apparently what that's your fifth point yeah yeah that is my fifth point uh

00:37:57.640 you know excellence in everything because only the excellent people that had developed excellent

00:38:04.880 habits that had developed excellent character traits that had developed the excellent executions win 0.91

00:38:11.260 you can't win without it you've got to be fucking good you've got to be the person who pursues 0.54

00:38:16.800 that path you've got to be the person who goes out and does the best that they could possibly do 0.88

00:38:22.420 at everything they do and if you're not that person you're gonna lose it's just it's the facts

00:38:29.500 of life it's the facts of the way the world is programmed you've got to be good to win it doesn't 0.54

00:38:35.200 matter if it's business doesn't matter if it's life it doesn't matter what the fuck it is if you're not 0.90

00:38:39.600 good you're not gonna win and people like to think that you know winning is some sort of like chance 0.99

00:38:46.820 thing like oh you know sometimes you win some you lose some no motherfucker if you go out and create 0.94

00:38:52.120 the habit of of excellence and the character traits of excellence the character trait of pursuing 0.97

00:38:57.000 perfection as opposed to progress you are going to win a million times more than you're going to lose

00:39:03.720 and that's just the way the game is so why is winning important winning is important because it goes back

00:39:10.760 to the first point that we talked about if you don't have confidence if you don't have belief if you

00:39:15.040 don't have anything you're it's impossible for you to feel good about yourself and feeling good is what

00:39:20.400 you're supposed to be you know that's why i have such a problem with the with the way society is

00:39:24.520 right now they everybody thinks they have the right to feel good everybody thinks they have the right 0.96

00:39:29.300 to feel great about themselves for like doing the shit that they're supposed to do anyway you know 0.96

00:39:34.660 you're not going to feel good about yourself by paying the bills and you know blah blah blah and you 0.95

00:39:42.120 know doing all these basic things that you're supposed to do as an adult you're only going to feel good

00:39:46.680 when you go out and do something that is worthy of feeling good and you can have all the psychologists

00:39:51.720 all the you know psychotherapy you want all the books all the rainbows and unicorns and care bear 0.63

00:39:58.600 teachers tell us all this shit about how we're supposed to feel great about our lives dude self-esteem 0.96

00:40:05.140 self-worth confidence those things are earned assets they come from our ability to go out 0.99

00:40:11.260 do something do it well and then feel good about ourselves and if you do less than that if you go

00:40:18.800 out and you cut corners and you go out and try something and fail and you go out and try something and

00:40:23.260 don't give it all you have you're not going to feel good just the way it is no matter how much people 0.98

00:40:28.580 tell themselves oh i feel good we know you know everybody knows that in their heart they feel shit 0.76

00:40:35.940 the idea that you have to earn self-esteem is so countercultural right now because oh my god i

00:40:42.960 posted that we're entitled to feel good about ourselves and like you should see you should see

00:40:48.580 the comments that were on it it was unbelievable it was like oh so you're saying that in order for some

00:40:53.720 that people don't have the right to feel good because they're not having these material i'm like

00:40:58.940 what's i have to do with material things yeah it could do with anything but you still have to go out and

00:41:04.580 earn it you know and you know what you guys listening right now you don't have the right to feel good

00:41:09.640 you don't have the right to feel confident you don't have the right to have self-worth you only

00:41:16.320 earn those things by going out and doing things the best that you possibly can not what society says oh

00:41:23.100 i'm doing this the best i can no i'm literally mean giving it all your effort giving it all your energy

00:41:28.740 giving it all you have every single day and you know what you're going to do that in the beginning

00:41:34.560 you're still going to fucking fail but you get up you go at it you develop that resilience you develop

00:41:39.220 that persistence and eventually you're going to start to have confidence belief self-worth self-esteem 0.98

00:41:45.160 and you're going to feel fucking good about your life but so many people don't feel good so many 0.98

00:41:50.200 people don't feel great about their lives because they've bought into this bullshit the society's been 0.99

00:41:55.040 telling everybody for the last 30 years which is everybody has the right to feel good no you don't 0.99

00:42:00.520 and i don't care what anybody says right you're not entitled to self-esteem fuck no right if you're 1.00

00:42:06.100 a piece of shit you're a piece of shit so i do think that some people uh need it spelled out for them a 1.00

00:42:11.260 little bit i know we have a lot of young guys uh and girls i'm sure uh who listen to us and say you 1.00

00:42:16.260 know andy i want excellence i'm in the process of building it but i'm i'm kind of early on in the stage

00:42:20.860 i mean would what are some of the things that you would tell them in terms of what are just

00:42:24.960 little things that dude i would just take pride in every single thing that everything everything 0.95

00:42:28.520 everything like everything yeah everything small like if you see a fucking shopping cart out of the 0.98

00:42:33.380 corral and it's not yours go get it and put it in a fucking corral you know if you see uh if you see 0.99

00:42:39.320 something out of place put it in place if you see dust wipe the shit up little bitty things that's 0.99

00:42:45.140 those little things are more important to developing the habit of pursuing excellence 0.99

00:42:50.040 and ultimately being excellent than anything else you know what i mean you should see shit like that 0.98

00:42:56.240 like you should see a shopping cart out of its corral and if you pass it up you should feel guilty 0.99

00:43:00.820 i do i feel like shit i'm like fuck i'm a piece of shit and that's not even my cart if you get to 1.00

00:43:05.520 that point now you're in a situation where you know you've cultivated that habit where you take pride 1.00

00:43:12.460 in everything no matter if it's your responsibility or not you know because you're also developing

00:43:16.980 another habit which is take responsibility and accountability no matter what it is and whose fault

00:43:22.180 it is which is an excellent valuable skill to have in any situation whether you're the ceo or the

00:43:28.220 janitor you know so you could start it with the littlest things yeah so before we end uh why don't you

00:43:36.060 recap five points and then i got something i want to close with number one without confidence you can't

00:43:40.220 really stay on course in life you can't persevere in your goals and dreams and you cannot get true

00:43:44.220 confidence unless your life is characterized by excellence number two pursuing excellence protects

00:43:49.440 you from the danger of laziness number three pursuing excellence is going to improve the quality of your

00:43:54.080 social life and really your whole experience of human society four pursuing excellence is going to

00:43:59.140 make you highly resilient when bad stuff happens to you or you're challenged in any way number five

00:44:04.680 excellence is everything because only the excellent win in business and life winning matters and and you

00:44:12.440 know what everybody listening to this wants to make more money everybody listening to this wants to earn
