00:00:00.000 Albertans are getting a break at the pump.
00:00:02.440 I'm Sheila Gunner-Eid, and you're watching The Gun Show.
00:00:21.840 Hey, have you heard?
00:00:23.200 The provincial government is suspending at least its portion of the gas tax.
00:00:28.040 now not indefinitely only till the end of the year and joining me today is I think one of the
00:00:36.040 single greatest motivating factors for Albertans getting a break at the pump and it's my friend
00:00:42.280 Chris Sims from the Canadian Taxpayers Federation take a listen so joining me now is my real life
00:00:49.060 good friend and good friend to Canadian taxpayers everywhere Chris Sims the Alberta director of the
00:00:54.800 CTF. And Chris, I wanted to have you on the show because it would appear to me that the Alberta
00:00:59.500 government has adopted a recommendation that you have been banging the drum on for a very long
00:01:05.360 time. Tell us all about it. Take that victory lap. We're so happy right now. And it was the
00:01:11.980 tax fighters who are our supporters and they're always encouraging us. They donated heavily.
00:01:17.520 They sent out emails. They made phone calls. And that's why, Sheila, you saw a lot of me
00:01:22.640 over August. So much. And so inside baseball, my kids and I went on the road because I make them
00:01:30.760 do stuff. Like I make them hold the sign. I make them carry the bags and the equipment. So we were
00:01:36.220 doing pancakes and politics breakfasts in the mornings where we were talking to our supporters
00:01:40.620 largely about gas taxes. And then in the afternoon, we would do a press conference. I think I did five
00:01:46.600 press conferences with five news releases all during the month of august all yelling at this
00:01:52.900 alberta government to cut the fuel tax down to zero drop the silly little gimmick of the rebate
00:02:00.100 thingy mabob leave all that behind in your focus group that tried to convince you that it was a
00:02:05.420 smart thing to do and you shouldn't have listened to them but leave it all behind drop the fuel tax
00:02:09.580 down to zero like you said you were going to and they did they did they announced it and were super
00:02:15.680 happy. This means people are going to save big bucks starting on October 1st. Now, it's not
00:02:22.380 forever, though. And that is my problem with these sorts of things. Yes, take the win. Quit
00:02:27.360 complaining, Sheila. But if I need a gas tax savings now, I promise you I'm going to need it
00:02:35.240 on December 31st, 2026. And that's when the gas tax holiday is over. Yeah, for now. But just wait
00:02:44.560 to see your inbox just before Christmas and we send everybody else the action update of
00:02:49.520 it's time to all dogpile on Finance Minister Jason Nixon one more time and say, hey, bud,
00:02:56.440 we still need a fuel tax holiday. Do not hike this up on New Year's Day, January 1. So yeah,
00:03:02.540 we will fight that fight. Absolutely. I'm already drafting those emails. But for now,
00:03:08.760 from October 1st until December 31st on paper, we're going to be saving 13 cents per liter of
00:03:14.220 gasoline and diesel can i nerd out and say how much that is per vehicle you know what it's so
00:03:18.800 funny i was just going to ask you that i was going to say you know what the best thing is about chris
00:03:22.160 simps well there's many best things but one of the great things that she does is that she will
00:03:27.280 take these numbers that don't matter to anybody really when you hear them and break it down into
00:03:33.980 what it actually means to your family in your pocket every time you fill up every you know
00:03:39.380 what it means at the end of the year to your family so do it okay so here in alberta it's 13
00:03:45.880 cents per liter of gasoline and 13 cents per liter of diesel and oh my goodness do we ever need to
00:03:52.040 break on diesel right now oh i saw it in lethbridge here it was like 260 a liter which is nuts insane
00:03:58.720 that means the price of everything is going to go up by the way guys okay so 13 cents off per liter
00:04:03.900 of gasoline that means every time you're filling up a family minivan you're going to save around
00:04:08.920 10 bucks just in this one tax cut. Every time you're filling up just a regular pickup truck
00:04:15.340 here in Alberta, you're going to be saving around $15. So 10 bucks, I can get a roast chicken for
00:04:23.040 10 bucks. 15 bucks, I can get a roast chicken and a jug of milk for that. So you're saving real
00:04:29.940 money every single time you fill up. And say you have, you drive a lot. Say you've got a busy
00:04:35.440 working family, two people. There you go. You've got at least two cars, similar to what I just
00:04:40.320 described. Live rurally. There you go. And say you drive a lot. Say you fill up once a week.
00:04:47.340 You're going to save around 350 bucks per family just between October 1 and December 31st. Now,
00:04:56.140 we're of course going to fight like crazy and push them to move it past New Year's as well.
00:05:00.080 But between October 1st and December 31st, if you're a busy two vehicle driving family,
00:05:05.440 you fill up once per week you're saving 350 bucks speaking of the diesel big rig truck drivers
00:05:12.640 filling up those big cylindrical tanks that they have under their tractors they're actually called
00:05:16.960 tractors for their tractor trailers uh they're gonna save around 130 every time they fill up
00:05:24.160 just because of this one tax cut so super happy to see alberta premier daniel smith and finance
00:05:30.400 Minister Jason Nixon doing the right thing and dropping this fuel tax. Now I was doing some
00:05:37.280 poking around because as you know and I know you're the Alberta director but you're a BC girl
00:05:41.540 newly adopted to Alberta. I'm a refugee thank you for taking me. We're glad to have you. I appreciate
00:05:47.740 you. But I was poking around because I saw David Eby calling his snap election to try to catch
00:05:53.200 the conservatives over there with their pants around their ankles and I was like what is the
00:05:58.760 gas tax in BC. I had no idea it varies by region, which is mental, but they pay a regional motor
00:06:07.440 fuel tax that varies by location, 27 cents per liter in Metro Vancouver. That explains a lot.
00:06:12.820 I just got home from there. 20 cents per liter in Victoria and 14.5 cents per liter across the
00:06:19.580 rest of the province. Now I saw David Eby saying, you know, the reason BC drivers are paying so much
00:06:25.940 fuel is because of trump's war in iran maybe there's some truth to that but you know what
00:06:31.360 else you could do mr evie if you wanted to give drivers some relief in your province is to do
00:06:38.220 something about that crazy wildly fluctuating gas tax across his province there are things that he
00:06:44.420 can do yeah sure is uh so like sheila said i am born and raised in hope british columbia fraser
00:06:50.520 canyon i was just there and then also right what'd you say beautiful i was just there beautiful oh
00:06:56.700 you should have stopped and visited my mom um that's where that's where rambo first blood was
00:07:01.060 filmed by the way it was super cool um my mom actually uh accidentally hit sylvester stallone
00:07:06.500 with her grocery cart in the grocery store it's one of your favorite stories to tell love it
00:07:11.440 apparently he's like five two or something so anyway super fun i digress in british columbia
00:07:17.760 they pay crazy amounts of fuel taxes. You're right. So let's just start if you're driving
00:07:22.380 from Alberta into BC. So you're in, you know, relatively very similar sort of place, politically
00:07:27.820 speaking, in Eastern British Columbia or Northern British Columbia. You will typically still see
00:07:33.120 that price of gas jump right up. Usually it's around 16-ish, 17-ish cents higher the moment
00:07:40.480 you cross the border. Now, why is that? That's because they have what we often call the second
00:07:46.320 carbon tax. Okay. It is a low carbon fuel regulation that is imposed by the provincial
00:07:52.080 government. They pioneered this insanity in British Columbia, I will point out. And so they
00:07:59.080 have it super high. Speaking of which, former prime minister, Justin Trudeau, when he went to
00:08:05.780 Vancouver, he looked up at the gas sign and saw that it was over $2 a liter and said, that's
00:08:10.460 awesome. I'm going to make that across Canada. And that's what he did. So that's why we now have
00:08:15.980 the second carbon tax, this low carbon fuel regulation, which is across Canada. You might
00:08:21.520 hear Conservative Party leader Pierre Pauly have mentioned this. We mentioned it a lot at the CTF,
00:08:26.040 Dan McTague at Canadians for Affordable Energy. They talk about it a lot. Across Canada, it varies
00:08:31.560 based on the averages because they have to do a whole bunch of stupid carbon trading. It's nonsense. 1.00
00:08:35.880 Yeah. It costs around seven cents per litre on average across Canada. In BC, it is 18 cents per
00:08:45.180 leader. So if you want to look into the future folks, because by 2030, that's what it's going
00:08:52.120 to be across the rest of Canada too. If you want to see the future, look at British Columbia's fuel
00:08:57.200 tax. And you, were you in the lower mainland? Were you in Vancouver? I was in Langley. Okay.
00:09:03.220 Well, beautiful people, lovely place, terrible governments, just God awful governments because 0.96
00:09:09.880 they're blowing money like they don't know what money is anymore. Premier David Eby has doubled
00:09:18.020 the debt. He is on track to double the debt, wait for it, since Horgan. Like, since Horgan,
00:09:26.960 who was also an NDP Premier. So Eby, I don't know, man, his team, they don't believe in the
00:09:33.700 concept of money or something weird. Okay, so the reason why once you hit about halfway through
00:09:39.420 Langley, all of a sudden the price jumps up again is because of the provincially kind of organized,
00:09:45.940 but regionally controlled Vancouver bus board. Okay. They have a special tax that is on gasoline
00:09:55.240 and diesel that is just in that lower mainland. And it goes from about halfway through Langley,
00:10:01.440 all the way up to North Vancouver, all the way to the coast to Horseshoe Bay. It's called
00:10:05.740 TransLink. They consider themselves really fancy. Their executives get paid hundreds and hundreds
00:10:10.800 of thousands of dollars per year. And they add 18.5 cents per liter to every liter of gas and
00:10:18.780 diesel. Oh, and by the way, they also screw you on parking. If you notice parking is super crazy
00:10:23.040 and they've got a big tax on that, that's the bus board again, because they hate cars.
00:10:27.880 I couldn't believe it. I topped up the tank before I left Alberta.
00:10:33.060 Yeah. You're squeezing every last bit in. It's like dripping out.
00:10:37.200 Yeah. And just trying to make sure that I didn't have to fuel up until at least past golden,
00:10:44.280 because I couldn't believe the price of fuel, like the cost of diesel out there. When you think about
00:10:51.120 how the cost of diesel, as you said earlier, factors into everything because everything has
00:10:55.240 moved on diesel. It just is an inflationary tax added along the way. And when I saw David Eby
00:11:01.760 complaining about the unaffordable nature of fuel in British Columbia. And I was like, I think that
00:11:06.220 phone call is coming from inside the house. My bro, cancel your ridiculous carbon tax. Okay. We 0.96
00:11:12.800 made them do it. Our tax fighters made them do it for the consumer carbon tax, but they still have
00:11:17.840 that hidden second carbon tax. And yeah, tell TransLink they're knocked down literally to a
00:11:23.580 regional bus board. Your job is to make the bus and sky trains run on time and make sure that
00:11:29.480 people get paid through payroll to be bus drivers and whatnot. End of list. End of list. You no
00:11:35.440 longer have responsibilities to save the world or to have a war on the car or to dream up other 0.97
00:11:41.680 stupid ways of setting up a digital toll booth around downtown Vancouver, which they're still 0.89
00:11:46.340 sniffing around or sending people to conferences. Sheila, this should spark fear into your heart 1.00
00:11:51.560 to learn about fee per kilometer. Oh no. Oh yeah. Like they actually, okay. I digress, 0.96
00:11:59.900 but I kid you not. I worked there. I lived there for years. I went to this conference
00:12:03.940 years ago, must've been 2017, 2018. And it was sponsored by TransLink and all these other,
00:12:11.340 you know, people that were there. I think I was the only one from a taxpayer's group that was
00:12:16.160 saying, are you all insane? We're not doing this. They literally, Sheila, were talking about
00:12:22.180 installing tracking devices in people's vehicles, boom, boom, boom, so they can see where they're
00:12:30.140 driving, when, and bill them, send them a bill, a fee per kilometer punishment tax for driving a car.
00:12:39.620 Social credit. I put my hand up. I'm like, social credit. Okay, this is again, I put my hand up,
00:12:44.600 up like you can't do that they're like yeah sure we can we control ICBC which is the government
00:12:50.160 controlled monopoly on vehicle insurance I know I'm like no no no I didn't mean that you
00:12:56.320 functionally don't have the power to do so I mean morally and ethically you can't put in tracking
00:13:03.140 devices in free people's vehicles and they blinked at me they're like but why like literally if you
00:13:11.180 have nothing to hide what does it matter i'm like okay you you're crazy so right yeah that's why
00:13:17.640 that's why they have crazy high fuel taxes and crazy high fuel prices in the lower mainland of
00:13:22.280 bc god helps them during this election and this is why this is a great example viewers at home
00:13:28.940 when you say to me oh but vehicle insurance might be cheaper in british columbia or in
00:13:33.720 saskatchewan or whatever where they have these government-run insurance this is where it goes
00:13:39.240 then they can control certain things if they want to um and usually they want to oh they always want
00:13:47.600 to oh they always want to sheila they want to control everything and not only is it gross that
00:13:53.900 they want to control everything but we we don't have the money for the government to try to bumble
00:14:00.180 along and control everybody's lives they they're really bad at it they can't do it and we don't
00:14:05.860 have the cash for them to attempt it uh it reminds me of uh saying the late great kathy
00:14:11.980 shadel used to have oh and it was and she would say to politicians you're not smart enough to tell
00:14:18.100 me how to live and uh you know we lost a good one there we did and god bless blazing cat for for
00:14:26.160 keeping her memory memory alive online oh my god yes yeah that's back in the day god five five feet
00:14:31.920 of fury. Um, I want to switch lanes to something a little bit, uh, well, it's comical except for
00:14:38.260 the sad part that we're paying for all of this. And I note the author of this report from the
00:14:44.020 Canadian Taxpayers Federation. It's Jen Hodgson, who is a graduate of the independent journalism
00:14:50.980 or rather the independent press gallery and the democracy funds project, the student journalism
00:14:56.380 conference so um but just uh i love to see the names of the young people who graduated from that
00:15:04.080 go on to do great things and you know great things in independent journalism but to really
00:15:09.120 advocate for the little guy as jen is here mesopotamian brewers canadian dance floors and
00:15:15.480 trudeau's speeches inside ottawa's 2026 research grants if you want to be uh mad sad but also
00:15:25.000 comically entertained, I suggest you read the Ottawa Research Grants. So ancient temple brewers,
00:15:32.520 Arctic climate comics, low carbon video games, and Justin Trudeau's speeches. These are among
00:15:37.960 the research topics the government is funding this year, according to the Canadian Taxpayers
00:15:42.180 Federation analysis of federal grant data. Studies about climate comics and the state
00:15:49.160 of Canadian dance floors don't sound like studies that matter to most Canadians, like the government
00:15:53.320 claim said franco terrazzano uh the ctf federal director a government that can find thirty one
00:16:00.460 thousand dollars for temple brewers in ancient mesopotamia can find savings for canadian
00:16:05.740 taxpayers some of these grants for are crazy for example this year the uh social sciences and
00:16:14.860 humanities research council shirk is what people call it shirk the shirk yep yeah uh shirking off
00:16:22.600 responsibility to spend my money appropriately uh gave concordia university professor antonia
00:16:29.020 hernandez a hundred thousand dollars for a study called liquor frontier water governance through
00:16:34.600 coral storytelling i know what those words mean independently but them together makes zero sense
00:16:40.000 to me and it's coral storytelling with a c not oral storytelling yeah coral coral like ch i'm out
00:16:47.740 I don't know.
00:16:48.720 I don't know.
00:16:50.760 A federal research council gave Ottawa-based professor Kyle Conway $44,000 to study the, quote, contested meaning of former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's speeches.
00:17:01.840 Conway will analyze 326 Trudeau's speeches, tracking how the former Prime Minister used terms including, quote, feminist, quote, reconciliation, quote, protest, and, quote, freedom.
00:17:14.460 The freedom one should be pretty interesting.
00:17:16.400 are they going to quote from when he invoked the emergencies act illegally and froze everybody's
00:17:21.400 bank accounts that were there or asked if people should continue to take up space in canada
00:17:25.780 be curious this is just fart catching at the highest level
00:17:30.840 um there's another one shirk also spent 79 000 studying the quote state of the dance floor in
00:17:38.900 Canada and another 80,000 on nasal harmony in Amazonian languages and $89,000 to study Arctic
00:17:48.760 climate comics. So next time that you are looking at your tax bill, you're struggling to get by or
00:17:57.680 being grateful for the provincial government giving you an extra 15 bucks to buy a chicken
00:18:02.280 and a jug of milk, giving you back, I should say 15 bucks to buy a chicken and a milk. Remember
00:18:07.540 that they are finding new and creative and obscene ways to waste your money that really
00:18:14.820 provide little to no benefit to Canadians whatsoever. What blew my mind about this,
00:18:20.920 Sheila, is twofold. One, people might think Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council,
00:18:28.080 like I heard science in there. Are they trying to research? I didn't see it. Exactly. Are they
00:18:33.200 trying to research a new form of insulin? Are they trying to do something like that? And hey,
00:18:36.660 even for argument's sake, are they trying to find, you know, better crops that we can grow
00:18:40.520 in Canada? Something like that. No, no, this is humanities. And the vast majority of it, folks,
00:18:47.400 is nonsense. Nonsense. And you can go scroll through the whole list yourselves. And the 0.90
00:18:53.300 second part that blew my mind, I had no idea. I was guessing maybe a million dollars. Honestly,
00:18:59.060 I thought it was maybe a million dollars 1.5 billion billion 1.5 billion taxpayers are spending
00:19:10.560 on that this year and that's just one of these nonsense like soup pots of taxpayers money being 0.99
00:19:20.280 wasted picture the other ones the CBC costs 1.4 billion they fund all sorts of stupid nonsense 0.97
00:19:27.400 like this Canada Council for the Arts another one that hands out crazy grants to crazy stuff 0.96
00:19:34.700 you might remember when I was flagging the fact that there's some Calgary art gallery and I use
00:19:41.180 that term very loosely that was putting up garbage like garbage taped to old Christmas tinsel and
00:19:49.680 takeout containers hanging in the transit window in downtown Calgary. It was so hideous. 0.91
00:19:56.940 Our tax dollars went to that, not just locally, but federal tax dollars. How did they get that?
00:20:04.200 I found it through the Canada Council for the Arts. So it isn't just this terrible pot of
00:20:09.660 government waste, this shirk. It is so many more of them. And to your point, you wonder,
00:20:16.560 you wonder why about half of what you earn goes to various forms of government poof gone this is
00:20:24.360 why this is exactly what well i'll sleep better knowing that somebody was given money seven
00:20:30.160 seventy thousand dollars roughly to study the effects of the coffee crisp on the japanese 7-eleven
00:20:36.520 and i'm not even making that up to study western style sweets in modern japan and beyond yes yes
00:20:44.560 um laugh at me all you want when I first heard Franco say western suites in Japan I initially
00:20:52.180 thought oh you know Japanese micro apartments are famous because they're so tiny were they
00:20:57.460 actually trying to say are people more likely to have kids or are they happier if they have 0.98
00:21:02.940 western-sized suites like apartment suites oh and that you know sure worth studying not in Japan
00:21:11.240 but you know, that's a good question. And he laughed at me. He's like, no, no, no, no. I
00:21:14.420 literally mean candy, like sugar. Jolly Ranchers. I know. Oh my gosh. Okay. Remember when I told you
00:21:22.340 last year about the hundred and $5,000 that we spent on a documentary about the life and times
00:21:28.220 of a grocery cart? Yep. That's this slush fund right here. Gross. Same one, same one. So eliminate
00:21:35.160 this it shouldn't exist uh some of this stuff is gross i don't even want to know about it
00:21:41.680 seven you know i don't want to know about any of this actually but one of them i especially
00:21:46.560 don't want to know about um and that is the 17.5 000 on a study about casual sex among young adults
00:21:54.100 living in jasper yeah we paid to study ski lodge hookup culture sick gross you know i'm in the 0.82
00:22:03.280 business. There's government money floating around out there to study nonsense. I know. I know. And 0.91
00:22:09.840 it's one thing I'll just try to be as devil's advocate as they possibly can. If people are
00:22:14.540 hearing us and going through this list themselves and saying, Oh, that's kind of interesting. Okay.
00:22:18.340 You can find that individually. Interesting. Bless your heart. Find willing donors. Find a
00:22:25.900 sponsor. Honestly, find a sponsor to say, Hey, you know, legit. I find beer brewing in ancient
00:22:32.680 Mesopotamia, like 600 BC. Interesting. Sure. It is interesting, but go find a sponsor for you
00:22:40.800 to fund your research. Do not come to the strapped taxpayer and extort money from them because
00:22:47.540 we're not in a situation like Norway, where we have this huge sovereign wealth fund, I think with
00:22:53.640 2 trillion US dollars sitting in it, and we're tripping over money. We have un-money. Un-money.
00:23:00.380 we are 1.4 trillion in debt so every nickel of this nonsense that they're handing out to this
00:23:07.580 is with interest it's going on a high interest credit card and the interest is costing a billion
00:23:14.380 bucks a week a week it's a hospital a week well i'm into squatching and crochet so if somebody
00:23:23.600 wants to you know subsidize my camping fees or my yarn addiction i'm taking sponsorships but i'm
00:23:30.820 not going to ask the government to pay for my weird hobbies no i i go to value village and i
00:23:36.600 find old statues and then i get paints and i paint them to make them pretty right and i pay for it
00:23:42.180 myself still nicer art than anything you could find funded by shirk no it literally is like i
00:23:49.440 know like little kids walk by and they love looking at them that's why i literally do it 0.95
00:23:52.680 i know i know and i pay for it myself crazy i know for some weird feminist career students
00:23:59.480 hobbies i just don't but here we are um chris let people know how they can get involved in 1.00
00:24:06.680 the taxpayer army because you taxpayer army the alberta government out of the gas tax for at
00:24:12.760 least three months so we did it is effective and uh you know people will need to get involved
00:24:20.120 on new year's day or at least in the lead up to christmas yeah and how did i put this um one of
00:24:26.120 my old friends that i worked with in journalism pointed out that and i'm saying this as non-partisan
00:24:32.520 as i can pointed out that the left loosely win a lot because they go to weekday meetings
00:24:40.680 yes they go to weekday evening meetings on a wednesday night some legion hall in the rain
00:24:46.760 they're going to be there trying to figure out how to control the curriculum in your kid's school
00:24:50.840 or charge you more money or have more bike lanes where they're frankly probably don't need to be
00:24:56.120 bike lanes or police your garbage or whatever they're into okay um quite often people who want
00:25:03.540 smaller government and lower taxes and less control over other people don't like going to
00:25:10.340 group stuff they're just not like that they're individualistic we had to change that because
00:25:16.560 the other side of the big government, high taxing, going to control everything,
00:25:21.280 take half your wealth side, we're winning for like decades. So the Taxpayers Federation,
00:25:27.060 you can go to our website, taxpayer.com, click on the petition tab. There's going to be something
00:25:32.860 there that speaks to you. It could be to defund the CBC. It could be to stop the gun grab. It
00:25:37.700 could be to stop sales taxes on used items. So we quit punching poor people in the face,
00:25:42.920 all sorts of cool stuff that's on there. Sign up and boom, you're part of the taxpayer army.
00:25:48.780 The next time it's time to very thoroughly but nicely bully the Alberta government into giving
00:25:54.980 you a tax cut, you're going to be on the list. Same thing for the feds. If you want to yell at
00:26:00.300 Prime Minister Mark Carney in a very effective manner to do stuff like, I don't know, scrap the
00:26:05.260 carbon tax or abolish the Senate, you're going to be part of that tax fighter army that actually
00:26:10.520 gets those results and this is the best part remember i mentioned the weeknight things it's
00:26:14.860 a form of fellowship yeah you you suddenly realize you're not alone in how you feel it's all for free
00:26:21.760 and we even have like i do pancake and politics breakfasts and you get to hang out with people
00:26:27.240 who really like you and you become good friends with them so yep please sign up true uh while
00:26:32.520 we're mentioning og lady bloggers from the conservative sphere you just reminded me of 0.85
00:26:37.540 what Kate McMillan from Small Dead Animals used to say. And that's not showing up to a riot as a 1.00
00:26:44.020 failed conservative policy. Now, I'm not saying you need to riot, but conservatives just don't
00:26:49.620 like to do things in unison. And we might want to get past that. Yeah, I know we're all precious
00:26:55.940 little interesting individualists, but we all need to get our unique little snowflake peoples
00:27:02.940 together to all push in the same direction. Um, quite often it's called critical mass,
00:27:08.580 right? And do it peacefully folks. I'm not trying to get people in trouble. Um, but doing it
00:27:13.180 peacefully and firmly and politely. You do say yet. No, I said, we're the good guys. We're the
00:27:18.620 good guys. Exactly. Um, do it peacefully, firmly, and consistently the way that the late, great
00:27:24.840 Charlie Kirk encouraged people to do. You can actually achieve things again. I'll just use
00:27:30.500 this quickly as an example okay so we put out this book okay axing the tax this is on the consumer
00:27:37.540 carbon tax okay this guy prime minister mark carney wrote the book values before he became
00:27:45.260 prime minister and he was un special envoy to blah blah blah loves carbon taxes loves them so much
00:27:51.540 because of this activism we made this guy scrap the consumer carbon tax yes pardon me yes
00:27:59.680 it worked it worked um yes we know he's got a whole bunch of other hidden ones yes we know
00:28:05.740 he's got tariffs coming i know all that but it still mattered this is what was the big difference
00:28:11.780 during the election and it was because of tax fighters all teaming up together with those emails
00:28:16.640 and the phone calls that it became a third rail they couldn't even touch carbon taxes by the end
00:28:20.840 of that and it worked and we're saving some money at pumps well chris uh i want to thank you so much
00:28:26.480 for coming on the show and your enthusiasm for fighting taxes. Nobody hates taxes more than
00:28:32.440 Chris and nobody loves fighting them more than Chris. I just appreciate you so much. And we'll
00:28:38.000 talk again real soon. Thank you, Sheila. Well, as always, the last portion of the show goes to you,
00:28:50.620 our beloved viewer at home, because without you, there is no rebel news. I say it every single
00:28:54.740 week so regular viewers I'm sorry if I'm redundant but we'll never take a penny from the government
00:29:00.080 to do the work that we do we rely on you at home and you of course are premium subscribers to
00:29:05.960 Rebel News so I better listen to you so if you want to send me an email about today's show
00:29:10.200 it's sheila at rebelnews.com put gun show letters in the subject line so I know why you're emailing
00:29:16.760 me but don't let that be the only way that you let us know what you think so one of the things
00:29:23.040 that I have been really pushing for us to do is hit 2 million YouTube subscribers we are so close
00:29:29.140 but to get ourselves served up in front of new people our content has to sort of game the
00:29:38.220 algorithm a little bit and how you game the algorithm is to have your content interacted
00:29:44.100 with i.e. you guys leave comments likes shares subscribes and then the algorithm decides oh
00:29:54.020 people are liking this let's show it to more people so if you see clips of the show or our
00:29:59.580 free content interact with it like it share it leave a comment and i promise i will read it now
00:30:07.160 not necessarily on air but i do pay attention to the comment section that's for sure now today's
00:30:13.360 comments come to us by way of my video that I did the other day, where we had a little bit of a
00:30:21.980 victory on the independence front. Now, the referendum is still to come. And our legal
00:30:29.720 challenge against elections Alberta for not requiring or not divulging whether or not
00:30:36.600 Forever Canadian, the federalist largest campaign run by former Alberta PC cabinet minister Thomas
00:30:43.160 Lukaszek is they won't divulge whether or not that campaign is being elected or investigated
00:30:49.840 for campaign finance violations because they've claimed up until September 17th, zero income
00:30:57.420 and zero expenses, despite a tour bus, tens of thousands of signs, a hundred thousand
00:31:03.100 signs, if you believe them, and two campaign offices and not one, but two benefit concerts,
00:31:08.700 One involving Ken Conn superstar, Jan Arden.
00:31:15.560 Now, a judge has said that our lawsuit against Alberta and the Elections Commissioner will have to run its course, which means that we won't have a hearing on that until after the referendum, which seems terrible because the damage will be done by then.
00:31:34.100 However, just days before a meeting with the judge, not just days, one day before a meeting with the judge on that lawsuit, Forever Canadian said, oh, actually, we're going to start declaring our campaign finances.
00:31:50.820 Now, they have been registered as a third party advertiser since earlier in the summer.
00:31:57.140 But just now they said that they're going to start telling us their money.
00:32:02.300 Now, it's a small victory, but I want to know where that money came from, from the beginning, because what has tangibly changed since September 17th or 20th or whatever?
00:32:18.280 Nothing. They're still giving out signs. They were doing that before. They're still driving around in the tour bus, Tom Sukazic behind the wheel.
00:32:25.460 They were doing that before. They still have two campaign offices. They were doing that before. They're still taking donations. They were doing that before.
00:32:31.580 So what's different now that's requiring them to report that wasn't already happening months ago?
00:32:41.160 But at least we scared them into telling us where the money is coming from going forward.
00:32:47.040 We still don't know where the money was from before, but we do know that Thomas Lukasik was saying that you could take money from anywhere, or at least he could, instead of just from Alberta,
00:32:56.160 which gave him an unfair advantage over everybody else who's campaigning in the referendum process,
00:33:01.440 including me with my little TPA that could, albertas-choice.com.
00:33:07.680 So I wanted to know what you guys thought about me announcing that small little victory that,
00:33:12.400 yes, these people are going to have to tell us, at least now, in the last leg of the referendum campaign,
00:33:19.760 where the money is coming from.
00:33:21.540 so North Fork writes the judge should make them disclose funding from day one yes now a judge may
00:33:29.140 make them do that but based on the timeline to get this in front of a judge now we won't know
00:33:35.500 until after the referendum if that's even going to happen and the damage will already have been done
00:33:42.120 we are the lights as rebel patriots thank you you know we're just we're made for fighting here
00:33:49.260 rebel news oh i should tell you you can see our lawsuit and our 300 page affidavit and all of our
00:33:57.260 previous like our previous complaint that we made like a month and a half ago to elections alberta
00:34:02.760 you can see that all at stop the cheaters.com and if you're so inclined maybe you feel like
00:34:07.540 pitching in a few bucks we've had lawyers just working like crazy on this because time really
00:34:12.520 is of the essence pirate express 1369a says awesome reporting rebel news and sheila stanstrong
00:34:19.700 alberta you know i'm doing everything i can to make it fair not just for my little third-party
00:34:24.980 advertiser that could but for everybody he's running he being thomas lukasic running a
00:34:31.700 multi-million dollar campaign might get money from all over the place and we don't get to know
00:34:39.980 that that money is canadian is it american is it russian who even knows i mean they level this
00:34:46.440 nonsense about foreign interference in the referendum campaign and they level it at the
00:34:52.360 independent side but at least we're reporting where the money is coming from not the other side
00:34:57.200 though ian sun yes lee 9739 says anything to do with the canadian government is crooked while
00:35:09.780 this isn't the Canadian government. However, God only knows if the Canadian government was giving
00:35:14.780 Thomas Lukasik money. We don't know. Heritage Canada seems to give money to everybody for any
00:35:20.860 stupid old thing. Did they give him seed money? I don't know. But I think we should be entitled to 1.00
00:35:27.700 know. Abbott Ewan says, who has been paying for all of this? Are they going to be fined or even
00:35:34.680 charged with fraud. Well, it's not fraud. I want to know why elections Alberta has not required
00:35:40.640 them to do this. Every Thursday, my chief financial officer at my little third party
00:35:44.720 advertiser has to file our finances or we're in trouble because it's a requirement for
00:35:55.700 people to know that the money is not coming from outside influences to influence Alberta politics.
00:36:04.100 The point is, we're supposed to know who's paying for it.
00:36:07.080 Now, the good news is I can tell you that you guys are.
00:36:10.540 All my money is coming from Alberta.
00:36:12.620 There's not a ton of it.
00:36:13.860 And I'm out there hand delivering signs by myself.
00:36:16.720 I don't have an army of volunteers.
00:36:21.740 Rubicon 1, sorry, Rubicon W1H says they need to be audited and fined for each day.
00:36:27.560 There were noncompliance from your lips to God's ears.
00:36:30.180 Now, am I hopeful that that will happen?
00:36:33.120 a 50 50 chance but we're not going to see those results before the referendum so what would it
00:36:39.140 matter at this point now i'm going to keep fighting because if he cheated in this election
00:36:44.020 and i think he is cheating based on the fact that he registered as a third party advertiser
00:36:48.900 engaged in campaign activities took donations in kind from the likes of jan arden potentially
00:36:54.440 and now has suddenly decided that oh okay i'm going to register after all the money and campaigning
00:37:00.100 has happened, I am not going to stop till he's in trouble for damaging the referendum process.
00:37:09.620 I promise you, I just need your help to do it. And BKGB7KO says, keep up the incredible work,
00:37:18.100 Rebel News. Well, I'm trying. I'm trying. I just, I just want fairness. You know,
00:37:24.060 So even the other Federalist campaigns like Vote to Stay and I think it's Alberta's Voice, that's Stephen Carter's racket, even they are filing their expenses.
00:37:38.120 Now, they're not even doing anything at as large a scale as Thomas Lukasik.
00:37:43.400 Like a multi-million dollar campaign he's been running.
00:37:47.800 and we don't know where any of the money came from until i guess by next thursday
00:37:54.580 how how in god's name is that fair i hope everybody at elections alberta gets fired
00:38:03.960 now the good ones they can rehire but everybody in charge shown the door albertans have no
00:38:10.860 confidence in the referendum process because of this it's just a big fat mess and it didn't have
00:38:16.540 to be. All they have to do is say, Thomas, you got to follow the rules like little old Sheila or
00:38:21.740 Corey Morgan or Keith Wilson. That's all they had to say. They're doing it. You do it. Now,
00:38:28.740 he's got all the money. He could hire somebody. I got a volunteer CFO. I borrowed him.
00:38:36.420 Thank God he's good with numbers. Well, everybody, that's the show for today. Thank you so much for
00:38:40.880 tuning in. I'll see everybody back here in the same time in the same place next week. And as
00:38:44.580 always, don't let the government tell you that you've had too much to think.
