00:00:51.960 Republicans often make superficial complaints about identity politics,
00:00:56.580 but McCarthy's remarks revealed that the leftist hierarchy of victimization
00:01:00.800 has embedded itself deep in the minds of mainstream conservative politicians.
00:01:06.140 Diversity, inclusion, and equity have become the ideological enforcement arm
00:01:10.220 of the progressive cultural revolution,
00:01:12.700 and that poisonous belief system has now worked its way
00:01:15.500 into the political party that is supposed to oppose it.
00:01:19.260 McCarthy's remarks at Oxford were not some embarrassing accident,
00:01:23.120 At an event sponsored by the New York Times a few weeks earlier,
00:01:27.340 the former speaker used the same line about country club Republicans,
00:01:31.020 but it got even worse.

00:01:34.380 McCarthy told the audience that he believed the demographic makeup of the GOP
00:01:38.560 was a serious problem,
00:01:39.960 in which he needed to involve himself personally.
00:01:43.360 The congressman from California explained
00:01:45.280 that he wanted to see more women and minorities taking House seats,
00:01:48.960 but that the Republican primary voters kept stubbornly selecting white males.
00:01:54.780 McCarthy wanted to make it clear to New York Times readers
00:01:57.700 that he actively sought to influence GOP primaries
00:02:01.520 with the explicit intention of selecting candidates due to their race or gender.
