The Auron MacIntyre Show - Japan’s Beautiful Love Affair with America ｜ 4⧸2⧸25

00:00:00.000 For a brief moment, Twitter stopped reading like a machine built to aggravate, divide, and degrade the people using it.

00:00:07.500 Instead of the usual sludge of foreign bots and demoralizing propaganda, American users found themselves, thanks to a new auto-translation feature, staring at something unexpected.

00:00:19.620 A flood of posts from Japan celebrating the United States.

00:00:24.180 Monster trucks, backyard barbecues, Old West revolvers, bluegrass, and country music,

00:00:29.140 and all the rowdy symbols of American life that our own elites often treat as embarrassing

00:00:34.880 were suddenly being admired from abroad.

00:00:38.460 It reminded Americans that our culture is not only real,

00:00:41.860 but vivid enough that another people can see its beauty even when we've been taught to sneer at it ourselves.

00:00:48.900 If Americans and Japanese are to continue to enjoy our distinct cultures,

00:00:53.660 we must fight to maintain the true diversity that makes a civilization worth preserving.

00:00:59.500 Most Americans know that there's a strong current of appreciation for Japanese culture in the U.S.

00:01:05.340 Americans eat Japanese food, watch anime, read manga, practice karate, and revere samurai movies.

00:01:12.440 While we were once in a brutal war,

00:01:14.140 Americans have come to respect the noble and beautiful traditions of the Japanese.

00:01:19.220 What many Americans didn't know is that the Japanese also have a robust subculture of

00:01:24.260 appreciation for American culture. Americans are constantly told that they have no culture,

00:01:30.020 or that what they do have is shallow, vulgar, and unworthy of defense. In much of elite life,

00:01:36.300 status comes from mocking the tastes and traditions of ordinary Americans. Status in the U.S. and

00:01:42.840 many other western nations is acquired by looking down on the folkways of the average American.

00:01:49.220 It's not just that the Japanese love American culture, but that they seem to focus particularly

00:01:54.520 on the rural southern and western archetypes. Banjos playing take-me-home country roads,

00:02:01.340 barbecues grilling comically large steaks, monster trucks crushing everything below them.

00:02:06.420 The Japanese love and celebrate everything that American elites have trained the population at

00:02:11.700 large to sneer at recently many people have been asking the question what is an american but the

00:02:18.740 japanese seem to know right away there's no confusion no debate the answer is obvious and

00:02:24.800 plays itself out in the memes reenactments and celebrations that japanese people enjoy

00:02:30.280 while honoring american culture sometimes and other people can identify your defining traits

00:02:35.880 more clearly than you can especially after your own institutions have spent years trying to

00:02:41.240 dissolve them. In a period where many people in the United States feel estranged from their own

00:02:46.980 inheritance, it was oddly heartening to see ourselves reflected in a nation we admire.

00:02:52.380 If the Japanese know who Americans are, then the least we can do is be proud to act like the 1.00

00:02:58.420 Americans the Japanese love. Now streaming on Paramount+. My center, my soul is gone. From

00:03:07.800 academy award nominee taylor sheridan mine is not a family designed to withstand tragedy

00:03:14.420 starring academy award nominee michelle pfeiffer and golden globe nominee kurt russell the worry

00:03:21.220 is what you do next you will have as much life to live as you allow yourself the madison new

00:03:28.160 series now streaming only on paramount plus this sudden outburst of cultural appreciation also put

00:03:35.280 to bed the idea that Americans are xenophobes who hate other countries. Japan's love for the U.S.

00:03:41.960 is reciprocated with great fervor by Americans. But why are Americans so willing to appreciate

00:03:48.340 and embrace the Japanese while being dismissive of so many other countries? The answer is simple.

00:03:54.680 The Japanese are worthy of admiration. Not all cultures are equal, and the Japanese have emerged 1.00

00:04:01.260 from the devastation of a war to rebuild a high-trust society on a foundation of rich history

00:04:07.480 and honorable conduct. It turns out that Americans don't hate other cultures, they simply save their

00:04:13.880 appreciation for the ones that deserve it. The social media cultural exchange also highlighted

00:04:20.680 the importance of real diversity and the need to protect distinct cultures. Both the Americans and

00:04:26.980 Japanese hold reciprocal appreciation for each other's civilization and want to see them continue

00:04:32.880 into the future. Americans want our grandchildren to be able to visit Japan in a hundred years

00:04:38.540 and experience what we celebrate now, and the Japanese feel the same way about the U.S.

00:04:44.640 An island called Japan that had the same borders and topography but was filled with Indians,

00:04:51.820 Palestinians, and Somalians, it just wouldn't be the same. If the island chain of Japan was full 1.00

00:04:57.340 of Haitians, it wouldn't be Japan. It would be Haiti with some cherry blossoms. That's the point 0.99

00:05:04.080 that our modern ideology just can't admit. A nation isn't just a market, a legal zone, or a patch of

00:05:11.500 land inside a set of borders. It's the Japanese people, their way of life, and the culture that

00:05:17.520 they create that defines the nation. Japan has been better than most modern nations in protecting 0.78

00:05:24.080 its identity, but the country is under immense pressure to open its borders. Like much of the

00:05:29.660 modern world, Japan is experiencing a massive decline in birth rates, and it's struggling to

00:05:34.760 care for its elderly population while replacing its workforce. After dabbling in increased

00:05:40.640 immigration to bolster its workforce, the nation has elected a right-wing government to reimpose

00:05:46.700 restrictions. A civilization can survive low birth rates for a time. What it can't survive

00:05:53.040 is replacement. Americans are beginning to understand the same truth about themselves.

00:05:59.300 If Japan would cease to be Japan after demographic replacement, then the United States would cease to

00:06:05.900 be the United States under the same conditions. America is real, distinct. It's a culture with

00:06:12.640 traditions and folkways and a history that's worthy of pride. America isn't just an economy

00:06:19.720 or an administrative zone attached to a flag. We need to stop being shamed into rejecting our

00:06:25.960 culture or treating it as a banal background for a global empire. Japan is beautiful because the

00:06:32.760 Japanese have built a civilization worth preserving. America is beautiful because Americans built a 0.96

00:06:39.000 distinct culture worth preserving. That culture deserves more than ironic detachment or ritual 1.00

00:06:46.040 embarrassment. It deserves loyalty. The Japanese, in their odd and affectionate way, reminded 1.00

00:06:52.360 Americans of something that many have forgotten. This country is real, its inheritance is beautiful,

00:06:58.820 and it's worth preserving.
