Summary

The life of the unheated prophet rarely ends in comfort and often courts danger. Pat Buchanan endured both with the resolve of a warrior. As the most prominent paleoconservative in American politics, Buchanan stood so far ahead of his time that today s conservative agenda looks like a photocopy of his 1992 presidential campaign platform. From the culture war to working class economics and immigration, Buchanan served as the American Cassandra, right about nearly every major question yet scorned by Republican elites. Pundits and politicians dismissed him as a bigot, a racist, an anti-Semite, even likening him to a Nazi.

00:00:30.000 The life of the unheated prophet rarely ends in comfort and often courts danger.
00:00:42.660 Pat Buchanan endured both with the resolve of a warrior.
00:00:45.840 As the most prominent paleoconservative in American politics,
00:00:49.360 Buchanan stood so far ahead of his time that today's MAGA agenda
00:00:53.160 looks like a photocopy of his 1992 presidential campaign platform.
00:00:57.640 From the culture war to working-class economics and immigration,
00:01:01.860 Buchanan served as the American Cassandra,
00:01:04.560 right about nearly every major question yet scorned by Republican elites.
00:01:09.320 Pundits and politicians dismissed him as a bigot,
00:01:12.160 a racist, an anti-Semite, even likening him to a Nazi.
00:01:15.880 Many of the loudest voices came from within his own party.
00:01:19.080 But Buchanan never bent.
00:01:20.560 He held the line.
00:01:21.440 And decades later, nearly all of his predictions have come true.
00:01:25.480 He kept the torch of paleoconservatism burning when no one else would.
00:01:29.740 And that torch lit the fire of the MAGA movement.
00:01:33.440 Born in 1938 in Washington, D.C.,
00:01:36.600 Buchanan rose to prominence as a newspaper columnist and editor
00:01:39.940 before joining President Richard Nixon's White House
00:01:42.620 as a speechwriter and political strategist.
00:01:45.040 He later became a fixture on TV shows like Crossfire and the McLaughlin Group
00:01:49.420 and did a second tour at the White House
00:01:51.320 as Ronald Reagan's communication director from 1985 to 1987.
00:01:57.200 Buchanan could have coasted on that kind of resume, but he didn't.
00:02:00.660 Instead, he broke with the GOP's managerial globalist consensus
00:02:04.400 and challenged it head-on.
00:02:06.280 In 1992, he ran against George H.W. Bush in the Republican primary,
00:02:11.020 furious over the president's betrayal of his no-new-taxes pledge.
00:02:14.460 But Buchanan's campaign wasn't just about tax policy.
00:02:17.960 He warned about endless foreign wars,
00:02:20.020 the abandonment of the Christian faith,
00:02:22.020 and the hollowing out of American industry,
00:02:24.460 along with the long-term consequences of mass migration.
00:02:27.620 In his famous culture war speech at the 1992 Republican National Convention,
00:02:32.820 Buchanan didn't just warn Republicans.
00:02:35.100 He challenged the entire direction of the American ruling class.
00:02:38.980 Quote,
00:02:39.500 My friends, this election is about more than who gets what.
00:02:42.760 It's about who we are.
00:02:43.920 It's about what we believe and what we stand for as Americans.
00:02:48.340 There's a religious war going on in this country.
00:02:51.020 It's a culture war.
00:02:52.300 As critical to the kind of nation we shall be as the Cold War itself.
00:02:56.920 For this war is for the soul of America.
00:03:00.160 End quote.
00:03:00.620 When does fast grocery delivery through Instacart matter most?
00:03:04.920 When your famous grainy mustard potato salad isn't so famous without the grainy mustard.
00:03:10.000 When the barbecue's lit, but there's nothing to grill.
00:03:12.680 When the in-laws decide that, actually, they will stay for dinner.
00:03:15.940 After two more failed presidential bids, Buchanan returned to writing and commentary.
00:03:36.200 He published several influential books, including The Death of the West and Suicide of the Superpower,
00:03:42.340 launched the American Conservative magazine, and penned columns for Vidare.
00:03:46.960 At every turn, he tackled controversial topics.
00:03:50.440 Foreign intervention, demographic transformation, and the destruction of the American middle class.
00:03:55.360 While neoconservatives dominated Republican politics, Buchanan stood firm,
00:04:00.720 laying the groundwork for the civil war that now rages inside the GOP.
00:04:05.280 Most voters just aren't driven by ideology.
00:04:08.520 They want a politics that serves their families, communities, and country.
00:04:12.460 Conservatism shouldn't revolve around abstractions, but should exist to preserve a way of life.
00:04:18.240 Despite the conservative label, Republican leadership made it clear that it only cared about cutting taxes
00:04:23.660 and waging endless wars.
00:04:26.140 Then came Donald Trump, who bulldozed the GOP establishment by campaigning to secure the border,
00:04:31.960 protect American workers, and end forever wars.
00:04:35.220 Trump won on Buchanan's platform.
00:04:38.020 Hey guys, if you've been watching this show for a while, then you know that around here,
00:04:41.820 we encourage something that conservatives usually don't do.
00:04:44.680 You know, winning.
00:04:45.960 That's why it was so great to see Donald Trump's electoral victory,
00:04:48.980 along with the cultural and political momentum that the right just hasn't had
00:04:52.780 in a very long time.
00:04:54.500 But we also know that the fight is far from over,
00:04:56.980 and at some point the left will start pushing for censorship again.

00:05:36.480 As millennial and Gen Z conservatives came of age under Trump,
00:05:40.580 many sought intellectual roots for the movement.
00:05:43.060 They found them in the paleo-conservatives,
00:05:46.240 Paul Gottfried, Samuel Francis, and most of all, Pat Buchanan.
00:05:51.060 Clips of Buchanan's speeches and passages from his books
00:05:53.860 now go viral across social media,
00:05:56.380 revealing a man who diagnosed America's decline with uncanny foresight.
00:06:01.200 He has become, retroactively, the elder statesman of the new right,
00:06:05.760 an inspiration to a generation of conservatives
00:06:08.240 eager to challenge the party line and reclaim their country.
00:06:12.120 Buchanan's return to prominence hasn't gone unnoticed
00:06:15.640 by establishment conservatives or the legacy press.
00:06:19.220 Neoconservatives have taken to calling Trump supporters
00:06:21.420 the Buchanan right,
00:06:23.400 a clumsy insult aimed at discrediting the movement by association.
00:06:28.000 The Atlantic recently ran a hit piece titled
00:06:30.520 The Godfather of the Woke Right,
00:06:32.800 recycling the slur peddled by James Lindsay.
00:06:35.760 The article begrudgingly acknowledged suicide of a superpower
00:06:39.100 as a formative text for the MAGA right,
00:06:41.740 but framed this influence as toxic, an engine of xenophobia and racism.
00:06:47.180 In a time when the GOP sold out to neoconservative globalism,
00:06:51.320 Buchanan held the line.
00:06:52.980 He took on the thankless task of warning his party and his country
00:06:56.580 about the real dangers ahead.
00:06:58.940 Mass migration, national decline, foreign entanglements,
00:07:02.680 long before anyone in power was ready to listen.
00:07:06.260 And for his efforts, he was ridiculed, condemned, and cast aside.
00:07:10.620 That must never happen again.
00:07:12.420 We're just not going to let it happen again.
00:07:14.460 The term Buchanan right shouldn't be a smear.
00:07:16.840 It should be a badge of honor.
00:07:18.740 The left has been tearing down everything that is beautiful about our society.
00:07:22.580 It has been tearing down our culture.
00:07:23.880 It has been tearing down our religion.
00:07:25.520 It has been tearing down our families.
00:07:27.240 It has been tearing down the statues of our American founders.
00:07:30.540 And you know what?
00:07:31.900 The right should start building.
00:07:33.900 We must erect monuments to men who stand firm when it matters most.
00:07:38.800 The first should be Pat Buchanan.
00:07:40.960 We can no longer elect him as president,
00:07:43.240 but we can honor him now while he's still here to see it.
00:07:46.860 Let's build the monument that he deserves.
00:07:49.620 One that pays tribute to the man who carried the torch through the wilderness
00:07:53.240 and lit the way for the movement that would make America great again.

00:08:25.260 I want to pursue this.
00:08:26.260 I haven't figured everything out yet, but I think this is something that we should actually
