00:00:42.620 characterizing Red America as a backward and culturally insignificant relic

00:00:46.620 which had to be subsidized by the far more advanced and profitable sectors of the country.

00:00:51.760 This was always a bit of an odd talking point for a movement which pretended to champion the poor

00:00:56.720 and reject the excesses of capitalism,

00:00:59.360 but never make the mistake of believing that the left cares more about the values they espouse

00:01:03.900 than the opportunity to spit on an enemy.

00:01:07.040 It was never a very factual argument,

00:01:09.140 as much of the subsidies provided to red states were agricultural

00:01:12.180 and served to drive down the cost of food across the country. 0.94

00:01:15.180 But progressive journalists and pundits love to sneer at their lessers

00:01:19.360 and rarely think about where their food comes from.

00:01:22.160 What is now beyond debate is that the economic power in the United States is shifting south,

00:01:27.800 as a report from Bloomberg recently revealed.

00:01:31.060 More than 2 million people moved to the south over the last two years,

00:01:35.360 taking $100 billion in wealth with them,

00:01:38.440 and that migration is reshaping the economic landscape of the nation.

00:01:44.740 the collective economic power of six states in the southeast,

00:01:48.860 Florida, Texas, Georgia, North and South Carolina, and Tennessee,

00:01:53.580 now contribute more to GDP than the northeastern states.

00:01:58.040 This shift in economic dominance occurred during the COVID pandemic,

00:02:02.580 and the trend has shown no sign of slowing down.

00:02:05.180 The metropolitan areas of the south are booming

00:02:08.800 as the region dominates the rest of the nation in job growth.
