00:00:00.000 I love my daughter, but when I saw her lying about her opponent, it's not easy for a mother to say this, but Amy has a serious problem.
00:00:10.000 Ooh, my goodness.
00:00:12.000 That's horrible, just horrible.
00:00:14.000 Shame on Vivek Ramaswamy, the Ohio Republican gubernatorial candidate, for putting out that ad against Democrat Amy Acton, starring Amy Acton's mom.
00:00:23.000 I cannot imagine a campaign using members of the family of a politician to attack that politician.
00:00:28.000 It's unthinkable and unprecedented.
00:00:31.000 Or maybe.
00:00:39.000 So here's another ad.
00:00:42.000 You might remember this.
00:00:43.000 It's really, you know, part of the Biden campaign, actually.
00:00:46.000 The Biden campaign did this a lot.
00:00:47.000 You might remember this, actually.
00:00:50.000 We are so happy today to pledge our unwavering support to President Joe Biden and President Kamala Harris.
00:00:59.000 He's trading in on Camelot, celebrity, conspiracy theories, and conflict for personal gain and fame.
00:01:06.000 I've known Bobby my whole life.
00:01:08.000 We grew up together.
00:01:10.000 It's no surprise that he keeps birds of prey as pets because Bobby himself is a predator.
00:01:16.000 I watch his younger brothers and cousins follow him down the path of drug addiction.
00:01:21.000 His basement, his garage, his dorm room were always the center of the action.
00:01:27.000 Oh, wait, that's the same thing.
00:01:29.000 That's the same thing.
00:01:30.000 I mean, that's every member of Bobby Kennedy's family coming out to attack him when he endorsed Donald Trump.
00:01:35.000 Like all of them, like his cousins.
00:01:37.000 His siblings, everyone around him.
00:01:40.000 Kind of weird.
00:01:41.000 Kind of weird.
00:01:42.000 Almost as though people are only outraged when a Republican does something.
00:01:46.000 It's so weird.
00:01:47.000 Okay, so everybody right now is pearl clutching about Vivek Ramaswamy's ad against Amy Acton in Ohio.
00:01:53.000 And let's be real, I don't love it.
00:01:55.000 It's not my favorite thing, but we should not pretend this is unprecedented because it is not even remotely unprecedented.
00:02:01.000 Remember that time?
00:02:02.000 Democrat David Brill in Arizona put out an ad starring six siblings of Paul Gosar's, all condemning him.
00:02:08.000 Do you remember this?
00:02:10.000 My name is Tim Gosar.
00:02:11.000 David Gosar.
00:02:12.000 Grace Gosar.
00:02:13.000 Joan Gosar.
00:02:14.000 Gaston Gosar.
00:02:15.000 Jennifer Gosar.
00:02:16.000 Paul Gosar is my brother.
00:02:17.000 My brother.
00:02:18.000 And I endorse Dr. Brill.
00:02:20.000 Dr. Brill wholeheartedly endorsed Dr. David Brill for Congress.
00:02:25.000 Yeah, I'll bet you didn't remember any of that because nobody was outraged because they were attacking a Republican.
00:02:30.000 Remember that time that Amy McGrath, she was a Democratic candidate in Kentucky, ran an ad against Mitch McConnell that basically targeted Elaine Chow, his wife, for being Taiwanese American?
00:02:40.000 Remember this?
00:02:42.000 His trade deals made China richer, their military stronger.
00:02:45.000 They're spying on us, and they didn't stop the coronavirus.
00:02:50.000 Oh, and Mitch made millions from China.
00:02:55.000 And again, they tried to connect that to Elaine Chao.
00:02:58.000 Remember that?
00:02:58.000 Or that time the Washington Post ran a cartoon attacking Ted Cruz's daughter, or the time the Democratic groups ran trucks around Josh Halley's sister's office in Missouri, or the time the entire media ran with the joke lie that JD Vance had sex with a couch.
00:03:11.000 I know we're all supposed to have short term memory loss, but I got to tell you, the pearl clutching is a little bit much here.
00:03:17.000 Just a little bit much.
00:03:19.000 It turns out that in politics, lots of bad things happen and people cut really mean ads about each other, going all the way back to James Callender running interference for Thomas Jefferson against John Adams, and then later turning around and hitting Thomas Jefferson for sleeping with Sally Hemings.
00:03:34.000 So, you know, there's kind of a long history, as it turns out, in American politics of scurrilous ads or hard hitting ads or ads that everybody clutches their pearls about at the time.
00:03:43.000 But let's go through this Amy Acton ad.
00:03:46.000 That it turns out was funded by Vivek Ramaswamy's campaign.
00:03:48.000 We're going to play the whole thing so we know what we're dealing with here because there's some controversy that's attendant on exactly what happened between Amy Acton and her mom.
00:03:58.000 My name is Donna Arthur, and I'm Amy Acton's mother.
00:04:02.000 I worked at the Children and Family Service Association, building one of the first two sexual abuse programs in America.
00:04:11.000 I love my daughter, but when I saw her lying about her opponent, and it's not easy for a mother to say this, but Amy has a serious problem.
00:04:21.000 She is a liar.
00:04:23.000 She lies about her past.
00:04:26.000 She says she grew up.
00:04:27.000 Living in a tent.
00:04:29.000 None of that is true.
00:04:31.000 She's lied her entire life.
00:04:33.000 My daughter needs help, and she can't help you if she needs help herself.
00:04:39.000 People can change, but first they have to tell the truth, and my daughter still isn't doing that.
00:04:46.000 Don't vote for people who lie.
00:04:48.000 Don't let her become your governor.
00:04:51.000 If you think she'll make your life better, you're fooling yourself.
00:04:56.000 It will only get worse.
00:04:59.000 Okay, that is a brutal ad.
00:05:01.000 Like a brutal, brutal, brutal ad.
00:05:03.000 We'll get some more on this in just one moment.

00:05:54.000 Go to policygenius.comslash Shapiro.
00:05:57.000 Okay, so the blowback on this thing is that there are accusations that Amy Acton, when she was a child, when she was between the ages of nine and 12, was molested.
00:06:07.000 By her mother's new husband.
00:06:09.000 That's the accusation.
00:06:10.000 And so, therefore, there's sort of a she said, she said about her childhood and sympathy with the child and all of that.
00:06:16.000 Okay, so let's go through the facts here because we may as well, you know, actually go through the things you need to know.
00:06:20.000 So, back in 2020, Amy Acton's estranged mother, Donna Arthur, spoke to the press to share concerns about her daughter.
00:06:29.000 She disputed the amount of times they moved, and she disputed Amy Acton's claims that the men in her life sexually abused her.
00:06:37.000 So, when she was 12, Amy accused her stepfather of sexual abuse and rape.
00:06:42.000 A grand jury never brought any charges.
00:06:44.000 The mother eventually got college degrees, including a master's in public administration from Penn State.
00:06:50.000 According to Operation Rescue, reporting in 2020, Acton has repeatedly told the story that she was neglected as a child, moved 18 times in the first 12 years of her life, was homeless and living in a tent over one winter, and often did not have food to eat.
00:07:03.000 Acton alleges that her mother was a loose woman who had a cast of characters of men in her life, one of which became her stepfather, who abused her when she was between the ages of 9 and 12.
00:07:11.000 Acton also alleges that criminal charges were filed against both her mother and her husband.
00:07:15.000 Who skipped town and have not been heard from since.
00:07:18.000 Okay, so in 2019, she gave an interview to The Vindicator, which was a daily newspaper in Youngstown, Ohio, in which she said that she'd been sexually abused between the ages of nine and 12.
00:07:32.000 According to a newspaper report at the time, Acton's stepfather was charged with raping her in 1978 after her biological father made a report to the police.
00:07:40.000 But police and court officials in the Youngstown area could not actually produce records from the 1970s.
00:07:47.000 At that point, Acton's mom came forward to say that after her husband was arrested, she supported her husband rather than her daughter.
00:07:53.000 She denies that the charges were ever filed against her or her husband in Mahonan County, and they moved away until things could calm down and charges could be dropped.
00:08:00.000 The AP reports that Acton's stepfather was indicted by a grand jury but failed to show at a court hearing and remained a fugitive until at least 1981.
00:08:07.000 So, this is all under heavy, heavy, heavy dispute, obviously.
00:08:10.000 And that's the pushback on the ad.
00:08:12.000 The pushback on the ad is that it's not Amy Acton who has a problem, it's Amy Acton's mom who has the problem.
00:08:17.000 And Vivek Ramaswamy and his campaign are jumping right into the middle of all of this, which, of course, is dicey business for sure.
00:08:25.000 Hey, again, we should separate out two things.
00:08:27.000 Familial use in ads is nothing new.
00:08:30.000 This particular ad, obviously, springing from a source who is, shall we say, questionable based on the available evidence, that is a risky business at best.
00:08:41.000 Now, CBS is reporting that originally the origin of the ad was unclear because it lacked the mandatory disclosure of who paid for and authorized the spot.
00:08:49.000 On Tuesday, Ramaswamy told reporters it was an ad from the campaign.
00:08:53.000 And then he said, quote, Connie Locke, who's a spokesperson for Ramaswamy, said in a statement, We don't know what happened between Amy and her mother, who first spoke out about Amy in 2020.
00:09:06.000 We know that Amy Acton is a serial fabulist who has some serious problems with the truth the public needs to be aware of before deciding who to entrust as governor.
00:09:13.000 So, again, we should separate off now the ad and the character of Amy Acton.
00:09:19.000 Okay, because it seems to me that actually what the Ramaswamy campaign should have done is just put out ads pointing out all the things that they've been saying about Amy Acton.
00:09:29.000 Also, we should know that.
00:09:31.000 The first person to get into the familial business in this campaign was Amy Acton.
00:09:36.000 So she attacked Ramaswamy's mom.
00:09:37.000 She put out a headline saying, Billionaire scammer Ramaswamy used mother to manipulate clinical trials and pump and dump scheme to make millions.
00:09:45.000 So attacking his mom.
00:09:46.000 But again, let's put all of this tit for tat aside and let's talk about just the candidates.
00:09:50.000 Because in the end, if you're in Ohio, you have to vote for one of these people.
00:09:53.000 These are the only two candidates.
00:09:55.000 And this is, I think, the thing that we all ought to remember about all of these campaigns.
00:09:59.000 In the end, one of these people will be sitting in a seat of power and one of these people will be unemployed.
00:10:03.000 And so, you shouldn't decide that based on whether you like a particular ad or don't like a particular ad.
00:10:08.000 You should do it based on whether you think this person will be good for you or not good for you.
00:10:12.000 So, if you haven't been following the Ohio race, the reason the Ohio race is very, very important is not just because Ohio is a state that used to be a bellwether and now has moved into the red.
00:10:21.000 And if it moves back blue, that's sort of an indicator of coming things.
00:10:24.000 It's also because if Amy Acton wins the governorship in Ohio, there's a very high likelihood that Sherrod Brown is also going to win that Senate seat in Ohio, which puts Republicans on the brink of losing the Senate.
00:10:34.000 So, let's talk about Amy Acton for a hot second.
00:10:38.000 Now, if you lived in Ohio in the spring of 2020, you know who Amy Acton is.
00:10:41.000 She was the state health director.
00:10:42.000 She was standing next to Mike DeWine at the two o'clock press conference every day.
00:10:46.000 And she was, for about three months, the single most powerful unelected person in the state of Ohio.
00:10:51.000 She's the reason Ohio was the first state in the country to close all of its schools.
00:10:55.000 She's the one who signed the order shutting the polls the night before a primary.
00:10:58.000 She's the one who signed the stay at home order.
00:11:00.000 She also was the person who was saying crazy, crazy things like this about the virus in September 2025.
00:11:08.000 She said this about COVID.
00:11:10.000 Because the pandemic, not only did we lose more people than all wars combined, it's actually a grave security risk.
00:11:16.000 As you know, the economy completely crashed before a single order was written.
00:11:20.000 But in those early days, the mortality rate was 50%.
00:11:24.000 I started with that in March.
00:11:26.000 We were actually working on things in January, the second we knew about it.
00:11:30.000 By June, when we reopened, because we actually reopened earlier than everyone else, it's because we took swift, decisive action, the mortality had gone down to 5%.
00:11:38.000 We learned how to treat it, we learned how to save lives.
00:11:42.000 Okay, so we should point out at this point that there was no point at which the mortality rate for COVID was 50%.
00:11:48.000 That is not true.
00:11:50.000 Her handling of COVID in Ohio was rather disastrous.
00:11:53.000 Well, listen, all of this politics is disquieting.
00:11:56.000 It makes it hard to sleep at night, but you need to sleep at night.
00:11:59.000 And this is why you need Bull and Branch product.
00:12:01.000 I can't speak enough about Bull and Branch.
00:12:03.000 I just can't.
00:12:04.000 I mean, I literally replaced every single blanket used by me and my children's Bull and Branch because it's just that good.
00:12:11.000 It's not just their blankets, it's also their sheets, which are made from 100% organic cotton.
00:12:15.000 94% of customers say they actually get softer with every single wash.
00:12:18.000 So if your bed can use an upgrade, which it probably can.
00:12:21.000 Now is an excellent time to do it.
00:12:22.000 Upgrade your sleep with Bull and Branch.

00:12:47.000 So I literally just put it in the suitcase.

00:13:00.000 In March of 2020, Ohio had about five confirmed COVID cases.
00:13:04.000 So Acton then went to the podium and said that 1% of the state, like 100,000 Ohioans were already carrying the virus.
00:13:10.000 That number went national.
00:13:11.000 And then the next day she walked it back because she is kind of a fabulist.
00:13:15.000 She said that she's not certain there were 100,000 people, but too late because the same day Mike DeWine closed every school in Ohio.
00:13:21.000 He was the first governor in America to do it.
00:13:23.000 He limited gatherings to 100 people.
00:13:25.000 Then he closed the bars and the restaurants.
00:13:27.000 And then March 16th, the night before the Ohio presidential primary, Acton signed an order closing the polls.
00:13:33.000 March 22nd, that was the stay at home order.
00:13:35.000 All non essential businesses were shut, gyms and salons and the whole thing.
00:13:38.000 In May of that same year, 35 gyms sued, and a Lake County judge blocked the department from enforcing the closure, saying the state went beyond its authority.
00:13:47.000 And when there was a big question about nursing home deaths, because as you recall, many of the lockdown states basically locked a bunch of old people together in a place and told them not to go outside.
00:13:57.000 And the nursing home deaths skyrocketed.
00:13:59.000 The department initially refused to release facility level data and told county health agencies to do the same.
00:14:04.000 They kept all the schools closed through the end of the year.
00:14:07.000 And then in June, the House voted to strip her emergency powers.
00:14:11.000 She resigned.
00:14:13.000 She said that she quit because she would not sign an order allowing county fairs, which of course is insane because it was all outdoors.
00:14:21.000 And she still thinks none of this was a mistake.
00:14:24.000 So she still says, Our focus was actually on how to keep kids learning.
00:14:28.000 Was it though?
00:14:30.000 Was it though?
00:14:30.000 Okay, so again, she was a terribly ineffective Ohio Department of Health director.
00:14:38.000 Basically, the only thing she kept open in the state of Ohio was the abortion clinics.
00:14:42.000 So, back in 2020, abortion was legal in Ohio up to 20 weeks of pregnancy.
00:14:48.000 But she is deeply tied to Planned Parenthood.
00:14:50.000 And so, during the pandemic, she said that the abortion facility should be kept open.
00:14:57.000 And then there are some questions about her actual activities.
00:15:00.000 So, in 2019, for example, According to NBC News, police in Bexley, Ohio responded to a report of a domestic dispute at the home of Dr. Acton.
00:15:09.000 Acton, who was then the director of the state's Department of Health, pulled a mirror off a wall, shattering the glass when she became upset because she felt her husband was antagonizing her, according to a police report.
00:15:19.000 She told officers she'd been drinking, had taken an unknown amount of prescription drugs, and was about to drive away in the car before her husband, who also said he'd been drinking, talked her out of it.
00:15:28.000 According to Operation Rescue, it turns out that when she applied for her initial medical license dated 1994, she checked yes to the box for the question Have you ever been treated but not hospitalized for emotional or mental illness, drug addiction, abuse, or an alcohol problem?
00:15:46.000 So, again, all this is weird, and there have been some kind of strange events on the campaign trail.
00:15:51.000 There's one situation on the campaign trail where a suspect named Patrick Havis went to the Canfield Fair and was kind of Shoving his way through the crowd and knocked a couple of people down in the process.
00:16:04.000 And she said there was an attempted alleged assault on her.
00:16:08.000 Here is what the actual event looked like.
00:16:10.000 And then it turns out the prosecutors were like, she was very unhelpful in this particular case.
00:16:16.000 We got a lot of work to do.
00:16:17.000 In 27.
00:16:19.000 Stop directing. Stop directing.
00:16:19.000 In a block.
00:16:22.000 Fire. Stop directing.
00:16:31.000 Stop.
00:16:34.000 St. St. St. St. So, the actual person who is shoving through doesn't really even appear to be on tape.
00:16:39.000 She kind of flinches a little bit.
00:16:41.000 And then the prosecutor was like, Well, we were trying to prosecute for assault, and she's not even helping us with that.
00:16:48.000 The information we've received is that the Acton camp requested individuals stop recording shortly before this incident occurred.
00:16:56.000 So, at this point, the only video we have is the defendants.
00:17:00.000 And what that's showing certainly doesn't support filing felony charges.
00:17:04.000 What does that video show?
00:17:06.000 It shows him walking into the tent, recording, and moving forward, calling out her name.
00:17:13.000 And the state patrol then, her security, I shouldn't say the state patrol, somebody in her security comes forward, and then his phone is either dropped or tossed, and that's all we have.
00:17:24.000 Now, again, the initial reports were that this person was attempting something truly violent against her, and the evidence didn't back all that up.
00:17:30.000 But again, put all this stuff aside, all of that, right?
00:17:32.000 The 2019 domestic dispute with her husband, and.
00:17:36.000 What she was checking on her medical applications and all of that kind of stuff.
00:17:39.000 Let's focus on what she would actually do as governor.
00:17:39.000 Put all that aside.
00:17:41.000 You know, the stuff that campaigns are supposed to be about.
00:17:43.000 So, Ohio is basically a school choice state.
00:17:45.000 She wants to restrict or kill it.
00:17:47.000 She wants to restore a thoroughgoing abortion across the state.
00:17:50.000 She says that banning the transing of the kids is quote unquote draconian.
00:17:54.000 She won't debate any of this, by the way.
00:17:55.000 She doesn't even allow cameras at her events.
00:17:57.000 She's certainly not debating Ramaswamy.
00:17:59.000 Or you could theoretically vote for Vivek Ramaswamy if you're in Ohio, regardless of what you think of his ads.
00:18:05.000 He wants to phase out the state income tax.
00:18:07.000 He wants to get rid of the tax on capital gains so Ohio can compete business-wise with Florida and Texas.
00:18:12.000 He wants to roll property taxes back to where they were before the pandemic.
00:18:16.000 He wants to cut regulations.
00:18:18.000 He wants to build energy projects.
00:18:20.000 He wants merit pay for teachers.
00:18:21.000 He's anti-transing the kids.
00:18:23.000 He's not a pro-abortion radical.
00:18:24.000 All of those things.
00:18:25.000 So again, here is the thing about the current controversy over this campaign ad.
00:18:29.000 I, I get why people are all up in arms over a controversial ad.
00:18:34.000 I get it.
00:18:35.000 But the attempt to get people to stay home based on the ad is really, really silly.
00:18:39.000 If you're a Republican, you're staying home because you don't like Vivek Ramaswamy's ad.
00:18:42.000 Let me introduce you to American politics, which have been pretty down and dirty for quite a while now, for those who have not suffered from short term memory loss.
00:18:52.000 Some of us would still like for the Democrats not to win, for them not to be in power.
00:18:56.000 Amy Acton, as governor of Ohio, is not a corrective to an ad you don't like from Vivek Ramaswamy's campaign.
00:19:01.000 What an amazing video you just watched.
00:19:03.000 Wasn't that amazing?

00:19:44.000 Professor.
00:19:51.000 Let me out.
00:19:55.000 This isn't happening.
00:19:58.000 You sit there and shake because you're dependent on drink.
00:20:01.000 Your sickness is all over you.
00:20:04.000 Have you ever seen a child starve to death, Professor?
00:20:09.000 No. I have.
