The Ben Shapiro Show

Ep. 151 - Every Time A Cop Dies, Obama's Approval Rating Goes Up

Summary

If there's any systemic bias in America, it's coming from anti-cop hatred in the black community. Three facts that prove it: 1) Police officers face an 18.5 times greater chance of being killed by a black male than an unarmed black male. 2) Often, blacks think cops are criminals without any evidence. 3) Blacks are far more likely to profile cops than the other way around. And, while 59% of whites have a great deal of trust in cops, only 14% have little or none in the police. The numbers are awful among black folks. And yet, as of 2014, 74% of black people said the police were too quick to use deadly force. Only 28% of white people agreed. This is not to deny there are many young people who feel as though they ve been targeted by cops, but it is to say there is way more evidence of anti-police bias than anti-black bias in police forces. 00:00:00.000 Barack Obama has spent the last several years drilling home the statistically evidence-free idea that police across the country are systemically racist.
00:00:08.000 Hours before a black anti-white racist massacred five police officers in Dallas, you remember, Obama said police shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota, which he said he knew nothing about, were, quote, not isolated incidents.
00:00:20.000 They're symptomatic of a broader set of racial disparities that exist in our criminal justice system.
00:00:25.000 After the cops were shot, Obama went to their funeral memorial and lectured America about the evils of police officers.
00:00:31.000 He said, quote,
00:00:55.000 Carrying that message forward, CNN's Baraki Sellers argued on Sunday that quote, we don't have a vicious cycle of black men shooting at police.
00:01:02.000 That narrative ratchets up the tension in this country where it doesn't need to be, but two, it puts in danger more black men.
00:01:09.000 Well, except that's not so true.
00:01:10.000 If there's any systemic bias in America, it's media produced, politician promoted, anti-cop hatred in the black community.
00:01:17.000 Here are three facts that prove it.
00:01:19.000 First,
00:01:20.000 Cops are far more likely to be shot by a black person than to shoot a black person.
00:01:25.000 Heather McDonald of the Manhattan Institute, author of The War on Cops, she makes the point that blacks are far less likely to be shot by police than would be suggested by the black crime rate.
00:01:33.000 Just as importantly, quote, police officers face an 18.5 times greater chance of being killed by a black male than an unarmed black male has of being killed by a police officer.
00:01:44.000 Second, often blacks think cops are criminals without any evidence.
00:01:48.000 After Officer Darren Wilson shot Michael Brown under disputed circumstances, misreported by the media, blown up by racial agitators, including the president, polls showed that a 57% majority of black people wanted to see Officer Wilson found guilty of murder and presumably go to death row, compared with 56% of whites who said they needed more evidence.
00:02:07.000 Of course, Wilson was innocent.
00:02:09.000 Brown was a strong arm robber and attempted cop killer.
00:02:12.000 Similarly, during the OJ Simpson case, 60% of blacks didn't believe OJ was guilty.
00:02:17.000 The police must have been framing him.
00:02:18.000 In the Freddie Gray case, 80% of blacks thought the officers, several of whom were black, ought to be charged, compared with 60% of whites.
00:02:25.000 All of the officers charged have now gotten off.
00:02:28.000 Third, blacks are far more likely to profile cops than the other way around.
00:02:32.000 While 59% of whites have either a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in cops, only 14% have little or none.
00:02:38.000 The numbers are awful among black folks.
00:02:40.000 Just 37% of blacks have a great deal or quite a lot of trust in the police.
00:02:45.000 25% have none at all.
00:02:46.000 As of 2014, 74% of black people said the police were too quick to use deadly force.
00:02:52.000 Only 28% of white people agreed.
00:02:54.000 This, by the way, is contrary to the facts.
00:02:56.000 A new study from Harvard showed whites are significantly more likely to be shot by police than black folks.
00:03:02.000 The left claims that all anti-cop bias in the black community springs from historic mistreatment.
00:03:07.000 Some of that's true.
00:03:08.000 But it's not wholly true.
00:03:09.000 Young people didn't live or grow up during Jim Crow.
00:03:12.000 Instead, they've been encouraged by the media and by their politicians to see police as the enemy.
00:03:17.000 And that's reflected in both action and viewpoint.
00:03:19.000 That's not to deny there are many young people who feel as though they've been targeted by cops, but it is to say there is way, way more evidence of anti-cop bias than anti-black bias in police forces.
00:03:30.000 I'm Ben Shapiro.

00:03:46.000 I don't know what I have to do to get that money out of your hand.
00:03:48.000 What do I have to do?
00:03:49.000 Come there?
00:03:50.000 I mean, come on!
00:03:51.000 Okay, but if you subscribe there, you can download the rest of the show later from SoundCloud or iTunes.
00:03:56.000 Alright, let's talk about the Baton Rouge shooting.
00:04:00.000 So over the weekend, tons of news.
00:04:02.000 As we've said about Andrew Klavan in this very office, every time Andrew Klavan takes the weekend off, it's just the end of the world.
00:04:07.000 So, there are a bunch of big stories.
00:04:09.000 We'll get to all of them.
00:04:10.000 The RNC obviously starts today.
00:04:12.000 We'll go through the schedule, tell you what to look for, tell you what's worthwhile, tell you what's not.
00:04:17.000 We will also make clear what's going on in Turkey.
00:04:21.000 We'll talk about that.
00:04:22.000 But we're going to start with this horrible, again, shooting of officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
00:04:26.000 So over the weekend, three officers get killed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
00:04:30.000 Three more get wounded by a guy who is a black nationalist, racist, hates cops, hates white people.
00:04:37.000 And President Obama immediately issues his statement.
00:04:39.000 Here's President Obama.
00:04:40.000 Here's what he said about what just happened, the shooting of cops in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
00:04:45.000 Regardless of what organizations you are a part of, everyone right now focus on words and actions that can unite this country rather than divide it further.
00:04:58.000 We don't need inflammatory rhetoric.
00:05:01.000 We don't need careless accusations thrown around to score political points or to advance an agenda.
00:05:09.000 We need to temper our words and open our hearts, all of us.
00:05:14.000 You shut your head, sir.
00:05:16.000 And the reason you should shut your head is because every word that you just said—it's like, does the guy own a mirror?
00:05:20.000 Like, where is he from?
00:05:22.000 Like, the lack of self-awareness here, is it genetics?
00:05:24.000 Like, what's the story here?
00:05:26.000 Because, listen to what he just said.
00:05:28.000 He said, attacks on police are an attack on all of us.
00:05:31.000 What have you been doing for the last several years?
00:05:34.000 He says, we don't need inflammatory rhetoric.
00:05:38.000 What?
00:05:39.000 Wait, what?
00:05:39.000 You had, last week, DeRay McKesson, a Black Lives Matter activist who says that looting is good, that race riots are good.
00:05:45.000 You had him to the White House.
00:05:46.000 He said race riots are good.
00:05:47.000 You had him to the White House.
00:05:49.000 And there, you told the Louisiana police to be nicer to him.
00:05:52.000 And we don't need inflammatory rhetoric.
00:05:53.000 He says we don't need careless accusations thrown around to score political points.
00:05:57.000 You went to the funeral memorial of five murdered officers murdered by an anti-white, anti-cop racist, you went to their funeral memorial with their families in the audience, and you equated their murder with the killings of Elton Sterling and Philando Castile, and you have no facts on either of those!
00:06:14.000 We don't need careless accusations thrown around to score political points?
00:06:17.000 My God, Hillary Clinton was speaking at the NAACP today.
00:06:20.000 We'll have the clips of it tomorrow.
00:06:21.000 Hillary Clinton at the NAACP, and she says the same thing.
00:06:24.000 Alton Sterling and Philando Castile show the police are racist.
00:06:27.000 You don't even know what happened there!
00:06:29.000 What in the hell are you saying?
00:06:30.000 You know how bad the DNC is?
00:06:31.000 You know how bad Obama is?
00:06:32.000 You know how bad Hillary is?
00:06:34.000 The DNC is having a very special guest speak at the convention.
00:06:37.000 Seriously, this is next week.
00:06:39.000 At the DNC, they are going to have, I believe in primetime, speak the mother of Michael Brown.
00:06:44.000 The mother of Michael Brown.
00:06:46.000 Michael Brown was a strong-arm robber who tried to thug his way out of a convenience store with cigarillos and then proceeded to punch a cop in the face, grab his gun, and try and murder him before the cop grabbed his gun back, at which point Michael Brown turned around and charged him full-on according to black witnesses, Eric Holder's Department of Justice, and a mostly black
00:07:06.000 We're good to go.
00:07:20.000 Here's the truth.
00:07:21.000 Right now, his approval rating according to ABC is 56%.
00:07:24.000 His approval rating according to Gallup is 51%.
00:07:26.000 Every time a cop gets killed, President Obama's approval ratings go up.
00:07:29.000 You know why?
00:07:30.000 You know why?
00:07:31.000 Because the media then call him a racial uniter.
00:07:34.000 It's a problem, and the media see him as the savior, right?
00:07:36.000 That's why he was elected in the first place.
00:07:38.000 We have this long, terrible racial history here in the United States.
00:07:41.000 It's a really bad history.
00:07:42.000 We'll elect this black guy, and he'll come in,
00:07:45.000 In his own person.
00:07:46.000 He's both white and black.
00:07:48.000 He grew up in a white household.
00:07:49.000 His mom was white.
00:07:50.000 His dad was black.
00:07:51.000 He can unify us all.
00:07:52.000 And every time there's a racial issue, the media turn back to, oh, he's such a uniter.
00:07:55.000 Oh, he's so wonderful.
00:07:57.000 He's so great.
00:07:58.000 Because they're not going to acknowledge the obvious, which is that he's exacerbating racial conflict for his own political gain.
00:08:04.000 He's going back to black folks and saying, you guys are the victims.
00:08:06.000 And then he's going to the media and saying, look, I'm trying to bring the country together.
00:08:09.000 These are conversations we wouldn't have been able to have except for me.
00:08:12.000 It's very important that I lead the conversation.
00:08:15.000 It's so sickening.
00:08:16.000 I mean, it makes you sick to your stomach.
00:08:18.000 It really is gross stuff.
00:08:20.000 And again, President Obama doesn't get to claim surprise every time cops are shot.
00:08:24.000 He said last Thursday, quote, I thought it was your job to help tamp that down.
00:08:28.000 I thought it was your job to help create a certain sense of unity in the United States.
00:08:42.000 But apparently not.
00:08:43.000 Apparently not.
00:08:43.000 Apparently, it's just President Obama's job to make things significantly worse.
00:08:48.000 And he continues along these lines, President Obama.
00:08:50.000 He says that, you know, this was an attack on all of us, this attack against the cops.
00:08:54.000 Regardless of motive, the death of these three brave officers underscores the danger that police across the country confront every single day.
00:09:05.000 And we as a nation have to be loud and clear that nothing justifies violence against law enforcement.
00:09:12.000 Attacks on police are an attack on all of us, and the rule of law that makes society possible.
00:09:18.000 Oh, you mean that racist law?
00:09:20.000 That systemically racist law?
00:09:21.000 You mean that whole criminal justice system that's targeting viciously young black men?
00:09:26.000 Is that the system you're talking about?
00:09:27.000 You know, the one that you were bashing last week, and that you'll be bashing two days from now?
00:09:31.000 It really is amazing stuff.
00:09:32.000 It really is amazing.
00:09:33.000 The lack of self-awareness, and more importantly, he knows what he's doing.
00:09:37.000 The media just don't care.
00:09:38.000 They won't cover it.
00:09:38.000 They won't pay attention to it because he has to be their great racial savior.
00:09:42.000 And so no matter what happens, he's the great racial savior.
00:09:45.000 And then finally he adds, we should be part of the solution, not part of the problem.
00:09:47.000 I mean, this kind of hypocrisy just makes you want to vomit and never stop vomiting.
00:09:52.000 We need what we saw in Dallas this week.
00:09:55.000 As a community came together to restore order and deepen unity and understanding.
00:10:01.000 We need the kind of efforts we saw this week in meetings between community leaders and police, some of which I participated in, where I saw people of goodwill.
00:10:10.000 Now he says he's the great racial unifier.
00:10:12.000 We need the kind of things I did at the White House, where I got cops in a room with DeRay McKesson, who just yells at cops all the time.
00:10:17.000 And then we came to no agreement, but it made me look really good because I looked like I was unifying two sides.
00:10:22.000 It's really, really gross stuff.
00:10:23.000 It's really sickening.
00:10:25.000 Now, there have been some people who have responded properly to this.
00:10:28.000 The Baton Rouge Sheriff.
00:10:29.000 By the way, the reason this happened in Baton Rouge is because Alton Sterling was shot in Baton Rouge.
00:10:33.000 Okay, understand something about the Alton Sterling case.
00:10:35.000 Best available evidence right now shows that he was a criminal who resisted arrest, was illegally carrying a gun, was tackled to the ground, he had two cops on top of him, they shout, gun, gun, don't reach for it or I will blow you away, basically.
00:10:47.000 And the next thing you know, they're shooting him.
00:10:49.000 Does that sound to you like an unjustified police shooting?
00:10:51.000 Or does it sound more like he probably reached for his gun and they shot him?
00:10:54.000 Because the video footage doesn't show anything.
00:10:57.000 So you're gonna have to judge it just based on the evidence in front of you.
00:10:59.000 But Obama doesn't.
00:11:00.000 He says that Alton Sterling's a victim of our racist, evil system.
00:11:03.000 So does Hillary Clinton.
00:11:04.000 The Baton Rouge Sheriff, he was asked about gun control.
00:11:07.000 And here is his answer about gun control.
00:11:09.000 With God's help, we will get through this.
00:11:15.000 To me, this is not so much
00:11:19.000 about gun control as it is about what's in men's hearts.
00:11:27.000 And until we come together as a nation, as a people, to heal as a people, if we don't do that and this madness continues, we will surely perish as a people.
00:11:43.000 Okay, and that's exactly right.
00:11:45.000 The idea that there's evil in human beings' hearts, that's exactly right.
00:11:48.000 But Obama forwards the evil in human beings' hearts.
00:11:50.000 He's the one who's out there exacerbating it.
00:11:52.000 So are the media.
00:11:52.000 The media want that evil in human beings' hearts.
00:11:54.000 They don't care what the evidence shows.
00:11:56.000 They're not interested in what the evidence shows.
00:11:58.000 They're not interested in making this conflict go away through better behavior.
00:12:01.000 All they're interested in is ratcheting up the tension so they can claim to be the great savior, so they can come in and claim to be everybody's best friend.
00:12:08.000 And there are victims to this.
00:12:10.000 I mean, this is just heartbreaking.
00:12:11.000 There's this officer, one of the slain officers in Baton Rouge, a black guy.
00:12:17.000 His name is Montrell Jackson.
00:12:19.000 And do we have the Facebook page for Montrell Jackson?
00:12:21.000 So Montrell Jackson, there's a picture of him holding, I believe, his kid.
00:12:27.000 Or it's his nephew.
00:12:28.000 One of the two.
00:12:28.000 And Montrell Jackson, he posted this a couple of days before he was murdered on July 8th.
00:12:33.000 And he posted this about what happened in Dallas.
00:12:35.000 Quote, I'm tired, physically and emotionally.
00:12:38.000 Disappointed in some family, friends, and officers for some reckless comments.
00:12:41.000 But hey, what's in your heart is in your heart.
00:12:43.000 I still love you all because hate takes too much energy, but I definitely won't be looking at you the same.
00:12:47.000 Thank you to everyone that has reached out to me or my wife.
00:12:49.000 It was needed and much appreciated.
00:12:51.000 I swear to God, I love this city, but I wonder if this city loves me.
00:12:55.000 In uniform, I get nasty, hateful looks, and out of uniform, some consider me a threat.
00:12:59.000 I've experienced so much in my short life, and these last three days have tested me to the core.
00:13:03.000 When people you know begin to question your integrity, you realize they don't really know you at all.
00:13:06.000 Look at my actions.
00:13:07.000 They speak loud and clear.
00:13:09.000 Finally, I personally want to send prayers out to everyone directly affected by this tragedy.
00:13:14.000 These are trying times.
00:13:15.000 Please don't let hate infect your heart.
00:13:17.000 This city must and will get better.
00:13:18.000 I'm working in these streets, so any protesters, officers, friends, family, or whoever,
00:13:22.000 If you see me and need a hug or want to say a prayer, I got you.
00:13:26.000 This guy was murdered on Sunday.
00:13:28.000 He was shot on Sunday by an anti-cop, racist, piece of absolute human crap.
00:13:34.000 And that's driven by people who see the color of the uniform over the character of the human being, or the color of skin over the character of the human being.
00:13:43.000 It's just, it makes you want to cry, and this is what the left has brought us to.
00:13:46.000 This is what the American left has brought us to, and it's just evil.
00:13:48.000 It's just evil.
00:13:49.000 There's a good man murdered because of the uniform that he wore in order to protect his city, and from his own note, protect people who look like him.
00:13:58.000 And it doesn't matter.
00:13:59.000 It doesn't matter.
00:14:00.000 He's wearing that uniform, and that's all that matters because we have systemic racism in our system, and that system must be wiped out.
00:14:05.000 By the way, it is worth noting, black cops, when they say, you know, shootings of black people, studies show that black cops are more likely to shoot black people than white people are.
00:14:13.000 White cops are.
00:14:14.000 And that's not a rip on the black cops.
00:14:16.000 That's just an expla- It's a statement that it's not racism that drives police forces.
00:14:19.000 It isn't.
00:14:20.000 It's an attempt to stop crime that drives 99% of police officers.
00:14:26.000 And it's just, it's devastating when you see the President of the United States purposefully, and the left, purposefully tearing apart the country along racial lines because they want law enforcement brought to its knees.
00:14:36.000 All of which means that, and you can see it in the media, you really can.
00:14:40.000 David Clark is the sheriff in Milwaukee.
00:14:42.000 There was just another cop shooting in Milwaukee this morning, by the way, and another cop was shot.
00:14:46.000 And David Clark was on with Don Lemon on CNN and watched Don Lemon cut off his mic because Don Lemon, a member of the media, can't deal with the idea that there might be a racist tint to Black Lives Matter.
00:14:56.000 Are we talking about police officers being under attack?
00:14:59.000 Because let's go back to where this whole thing started in Ferguson, Missouri.
00:15:03.000 The lie was hands up, don't shoot.
00:15:06.000 That's where this whole phony movement started.
00:15:11.000 It started out as hands up, don't shoot.
00:15:13.000 Right.
00:15:14.000 Okay, so if you want to, you would need to speak to someone who is a member of Black Lives Matter about whether they have perpetrated a fraud on the American people.
00:15:24.000 That's up to Black Lives Matter.
00:15:26.000 That's not me.
00:15:26.000 I'm neither a member of Black Lives Matter, I'm neither a supporter, or someone who doesn't support them.
00:15:31.000 I simply report on Black Lives Matter.
00:15:33.000 Do you condemn the anti-police rhetoric coming from this hateful ideology?
00:15:39.000 As a journalist sitting here on television, I don't have to condemn anyone, anything.
00:15:45.000 That is something that you should ask other people around the country.
00:15:48.000 I condemn them, just like I condemn the hateful ideology out of groups like the KKK.
00:15:55.000 Alright?
00:15:55.000 I condemn it.
00:15:57.000 There is no place in American discourse for that sort of vile, vitriolic hate coming out of this ideology.
00:16:05.000 This has fueled and fanned the flames of this anger toward the American police officer.
00:16:12.000 There's only one group in America
00:16:14.000 One time that truly cares about the lives of black people in these urban ghettos and it's the American police officer who goes down there on a daily basis, puts their life on the line to protect who?
00:16:28.000 Black people.
00:16:29.000 So when you say we just want to have a conversation, let's have a conversation about the black-on-black crime which kills more black males, which is more of a threat to any black male in the United States than a law enforcement officer.
00:16:47.000 Okay, and at some point here it gets dicey because Don Lemon doesn't like what he's hearing.
00:16:50.000 He basically cuts off David Clark.
00:16:52.000 You can see there, it's funny to watch Don Lemon do this routine where I'm just an innocent bystander here.
00:16:57.000 I'm just a journalist.
00:16:57.000 I don't take sides one way or the other.
00:16:58.000 That's such nonsense.
00:17:00.000 If you've watched Don Lemon for any amount of time, you know that Don Lemon is heavily motivated on the side of Black Lives Matter.
00:17:05.000 Unfortunately,
00:17:06.000 We have to let our Facebook Live fans go at this point.
00:17:09.000 If you want to see more, go to dailywire.com.
00:17:11.000 You can subscribe.
00:17:12.000 The show will be up in a little bit.
00:17:13.000 And you can also download the rest of the show from iTunes or SoundCloud.
00:17:17.000 We are the number one conservative podcast in America, and we are one of the fastest growing podcasts in the country.
00:17:25.000 So definitely check us out at dailywire.com.
00:17:31.000 Okay, so the media have an interest in promulgating this narrative that Black Lives Matter and the cops are at war with each other, even though the cops are not at war with Black Lives Matter.
00:17:40.000 The cops are not interested in war with anybody.
00:17:43.000 The cops are just trying to be out there policing crime and surviving.
00:17:49.000 The racial agitation definitely has an impact.
00:17:52.000 It definitely has an impact.
00:17:53.000 Let's look at DeRay Mckesson.
00:17:54.000 So I've mentioned DeRay Mckesson.
00:17:56.000 DeRay Mckesson is a useless human.
00:17:57.000 He spends his days on Earth making problems for people who are trying to make the world a better place.
00:18:03.000 All he does is go out there and yell about problems that are largely non-existent so that he can generate publicity for himself.
00:18:11.000 And then he gets six-figure jobs from the city of Baltimore.
00:18:14.000 I think he has a six-figure job from the city of Baltimore education department or some such nonsense.
00:18:18.000 What is your response to the idea that the hashtag shouldn't be Black Lives Matter, it should be All Lives Matter?
00:18:37.000 Yeah, you know, it's this interesting thing where people are frustrated that black people are focusing on the unique trauma that black people have faced in this country.
00:18:45.000 And I would never go to a breast cancer rally and yell out colon cancer matters.
00:18:49.000 And that's what people are doing here, is that they are frustrated by the fact that people are focusing on the inequity and injustice specifically targeted to black people.
00:18:58.000 We know that the way blackness has functioned in this country is unique.
00:19:03.000 And that we have to deal with that trauma in a different way.
00:19:05.000 We also know that in focusing on black people, that other people will also benefit when we get to equity and when we get to justice.
00:19:12.000 So I think of All Lives Matter as a distraction technique that has probably been one of the most through-line distraction techniques of the movement, but it doesn't get us away from talking about the key issues at hand, which are police violence and the world that we want to live in, which is a world where police don't kill people.
00:19:28.000 Okay, so here's why that's a lie.
00:19:30.000 When he says Black Lives Matter, it's just like saying cancer matters.
00:19:33.000 I've mentioned this on the air before.
00:19:34.000 No, because if I say breast cancer matters, the implication is not that people are out there who are seeking to kill breast cancer victims.
00:19:43.000 When I say that we're trying to cure breast cancer, everybody agrees we're trying to cure breast cancer.
00:19:48.000 The implication of Black Lives Matter is that there's a whole group of people out there who don't care about black people.
00:19:53.000 That's the implication.
00:19:54.000 That's the implication he's making right there on TV.
00:19:57.000 You don't want to recognize our pain.
00:19:58.000 You don't want to recognize what's going on with us.
00:20:00.000 Okay, what I want to recognize is the individual racist cop who does a bad thing and then we put him in jail.
00:20:05.000 What I want to recognize is the individual criminal, regardless of race, who should go to jail.
00:20:09.000 What I want to recognize is, on a systemic level, that the biggest threat to black lives is other black folks who are engaging in gang activity.
00:20:16.000 What I want to recognize is that if we want to solve the crime problem and the run-in with police problem, you're going to have to, at some point, have a population that lowers its own crime rate.
00:20:25.000 That's the only way this is going to get better in any way.
00:20:27.000 But that's not the goal.
00:20:27.000 That's not the goal.
00:20:29.000 Instead, the goal is to racially polarize for political gain.
00:20:31.000 And exactly what Obama says he's not doing is exactly what he is doing.
00:20:35.000 And Jason Whitlock, who's a commentator who now is at Fox Sports News 1, he commented on the whole Black Lives Matter movement.
00:20:44.000 People have been forced into a place in this country where you can't be authentic.
00:20:50.000 The conversation we keep having about police violence is one of the most inauthentic conversations in the history of America.
00:20:57.000 Increasingly in America, people ask you questions and are only willing to hear one answer.
00:21:02.000 100%.
00:21:02.000 But Colin, listen.
00:21:06.000 As an African-American, and again, I've had problems with the police, and my family lost someone we love dearly to excessive police force.
00:21:15.000 But the conversation about police brutality is a lie and dishonest.
00:21:19.000 You're more likely, as an African-American, to be damn near struck by lightning, to be killed by the police.
00:21:24.000 And no one can have that conversation.
00:21:26.000 And we're killing ourselves in our own communities, and no one can have that conversation.
00:21:31.000 And so, if authentic people are attracted to Donald Trump's
00:21:36.000 And that's Colin Cowher who's awful, but he's speaking with Jason Whitlock, and Jason Whitlock is exactly right.
00:21:42.000 That's exactly right.
00:21:59.000 He's 100% right, but that's not a conversation we can have.
00:22:02.000 Hillary Clinton, as I mentioned, is speaking in front of the NAACP today, and she's doing the full pander.
00:22:06.000 I mean, full-on pandering.
00:22:07.000 And that's all she does now.
00:22:08.000 She tweets out in Spanish about Donald Trump, about Donald Trump pandering over Taco Bells.
00:22:12.000 I tweeted over the weekend, lady who does not speak Spanish tweets in Spanish to pander to Hispanics over Donald Trump pandering to Hispanics.
00:22:19.000 That's what our politics has basically become now.
00:22:22.000 There is a real conversation to be had here.
00:22:25.000 Donald Trump should have done it.
00:22:26.000 He was invited to the NAACP.
00:22:29.000 And people say, well, why didn't he go?
00:22:30.000 Well, you know, he shouldn't have gone.
00:22:31.000 What's the point?
00:22:31.000 They're just going to receive him badly.
00:22:33.000 The point is, whenever you have a chance to speak truth to people, you go and you speak truth to people.
00:22:37.000 I wish he had gone to the NAACP.
00:22:39.000 And I wish that what he had said is, look, you name us cases where police do brutal things and we are happy, more than happy.
00:22:46.000 Everyone is happy.
00:22:47.000 We're all on the same page.
00:22:48.000 Prosecute those people.
00:22:50.000 But if we really want to cure the problem of police relations with the black community, we need to lower the violent crime rate in the black community.
00:22:58.000 And the only way to do that is to stop the government dependency, is to stop pretending that this is all a myth, that the black high crime rate is all a myth.
00:23:06.000 Stop pretending that the real threat to young black people is white people rather than other young black people.
00:23:11.000 Stop pretending that there isn't a culture that's being instilled in particular areas of American society that's very negative for the people living in that part of American society.
00:23:21.000 Speaking the truth sometimes has an impact.
00:23:23.000 And if he's booted off the stage, fine, he's booted off the stage.
00:23:25.000 Now we know where we stand.
00:23:26.000 But, going and speaking truth seems to me a better thing to do.
00:23:29.000 So, it's time for a little bit of Good Trump, Bad Trump.
00:23:31.000 Because, of course, today is the Republican National Convention begins.
00:23:36.000 It's already been gaveled into being by Reince McPriebus.
00:23:40.000 And Donald Trump, I'm not going to start with what Donald Trump said at the convention.
00:23:43.000 He's not speaking until Thursday night.
00:23:45.000 We'll talk about the schedule of the convention in just a minute.
00:23:48.000 But I want to talk about Trump's response to Baton Rouge.
00:23:51.000 Donald Trump has been handed the single best news cycle for any Republican candidate in living memory.
00:23:57.000 In the last five weeks, we've had Britain exiting the EU.
00:23:59.000 We've had Hillary Clinton nearly indicted for corruption.
00:24:01.000 We've had terrorist attacks in Orlando, terrorist attacks in Nice.
00:24:05.000 And we've had two major anti-cop terrorist attacks in the United States.
00:24:09.000 Basically, every piece of leftist foreign and domestic policy is imploding.
00:24:13.000 Donald Trump has such an opportunity here.
00:24:15.000 And he has a particularly strong opportunity because, as I've said on this program for a long time, if Republicans want to win, they have to run on two things.
00:24:22.000 Strength, a national policy.
00:24:25.000 And security at home, right?
00:24:26.000 So we're talking about strong national foreign policy, and we're talking about anti-crime policy here at home.
00:24:31.000 There's a reason Rudy Giuliani becomes mayor of New York, and it ain't because people love economic plans.
00:24:36.000 It's because he says, I'm going to fix up Times Square.
00:24:38.000 It's one of, legitimately, the only places in the political debate where Republicans and conservatives want more government, not less government, and that's when you're talking about law enforcement.
00:24:48.000 And when you're talking about voting for people in government, typically the person who wants more government rather than less is at an advantage.
00:24:53.000 That's particularly true on foreign policy and when it comes to keeping people safe.
00:24:57.000 So Trump has a real opportunity here.
00:24:59.000 So, fortunately, this is where Trump is good.
00:25:01.000 Yay!
00:25:01.000 Good Trump.
00:25:02.000 Okay, so here is Donald Trump reacting to Baton Rouge.
00:25:07.000 We don't know the motive at this point, but it does feel to a lot of people, Donald Trump, like things are spinning out of control.
00:25:15.000 Well, it does.
00:25:16.000 I mean, you look at so many different fronts.
00:25:19.000 It's, uh, you know, radical Islam.
00:25:22.000 And by the way, he seems to be a member of that group also.
00:25:25.000 It seems to be something going on there, but it's very sad what's happening.
00:25:30.000 Nation of Islam.
00:25:32.000 He is, uh... So, Mr. Trump... Bad, bad people.
00:25:35.000 Bad people.
00:25:36.000 No question about it.
00:25:37.000 Really bad.
00:25:39.000 What needs to be done to stop this?
00:25:41.000 We are, you know, it seems this is happening more and more often where we're waking up and reporting things like this.
00:25:46.000 Well, it would be wonderful if people could turn him in.
00:25:49.000 I mean, he had a lot of hate, and you look at, I looked at some of his videos.
00:25:52.000 They were vicious and hateful, and it would be really good if people would turn him in.
00:25:57.000 People know, I mean, people have an idea at least.
00:25:59.000 In some cases, you look at some of these killers.
00:26:01.000 In Orlando, as an example, it was all over that he was bad.
00:26:05.000 Something was going to explode.
00:26:07.000 People could turn him in, and if
00:26:09.000 If when they're turned in, like in the case of Orlando, people did report them and nothing happened.
00:26:15.000 If we had real experts that when they turn them in they could nab them in some form, they could see.
00:26:20.000 You know, before it was going to explode, but it's not an easy situation.
00:26:24.000 There's no question about it.
00:26:25.000 Okay, so, my mistake.
00:26:27.000 That's a little bit of Ad Trump.
00:26:28.000 The reason it's a little bit of Ad Trump is because this particular shooter, this particular shooter is not a radical Muslim.
00:26:34.000 He joined the Nation of Islam, which is a different thing, and Trump mixes up the two, but here's good Trump.
00:26:40.000 Now we'll get to actual good Trump.
00:26:41.000 Here's actual good Trump.
00:26:43.000 He asks, how many officers have to die before we do something decent here?
00:26:47.000 He says, he tweets, we grieve for the officers killed in Baton Rouge today.
00:26:50.000 How many law enforcement and people have to die because of a lack of leadership in our country?
00:26:54.000 We demand law and order.
00:26:56.000 And contrary to popular opinion, he doesn't mean the show with Jerry Orbach.
00:26:58.000 He actually is saying that he demands law and order, which is exactly right.
00:27:02.000 You have to, you have to run on law and order.
00:27:03.000 That's how you're going to win an election.
00:27:05.000 He talks about our country being divided.
00:27:07.000 He says, quote, I wish that Trump were even stronger on this.
00:27:09.000 I really do.
00:27:10.000 Because this, again, would be a big opportunity for him.
00:27:26.000 Come out in favor of the guys in blue.
00:27:28.000 Those people are what stands between you and chaos.
00:27:30.000 Those people are the people who grease the skids that make society possible.
00:27:34.000 Those are the people who ensure that you can go about your daily business in safety and security.
00:27:39.000 We all take that for granted.
00:27:41.000 But calling them out, calling them racists, suggesting that they are systemically biased against certain groups of people is just nasty, especially without evidence.
00:27:49.000 Stand with the cops.
00:27:50.000 Stand with law enforcement.
00:27:51.000 Now would be such a good time for him to do this.
00:27:53.000 Again, folks, this is not, you know, me being anti-Trump or pro-Trump.
00:27:57.000 Here's my view of this election, as you know, okay?
00:27:59.000 My vote is my own.
00:28:00.000 What I choose to do with my vote is my own choice.
00:28:02.000 You're an adult.
00:28:02.000 You can make your own choice.
00:28:04.000 My job here is to provide you with what I believe to be true commentary and to provide you with my perspective on the issues, and then you go and make an adult responsible decision.
00:28:12.000 I'm not here to show for Trump, and I'm certainly not here to show for Hillary, who I think is evil.
00:28:15.000 I think that Hillary's evil.
00:28:16.000 I think Trump is an ignorant buffoon.
00:28:18.000 That being said, there's an opportunity for Donald Trump to actually make hay out of an issue that matters.
00:28:24.000 Make hay out of an issue that matters.
00:28:26.000 So, that said, Donald Trump did a little bit of that over the weekend.
00:28:30.000 Most of the weekend was dedicated to introducing Mike Pence to the world.
00:28:33.000 So he goes through this whole rigmarole and finally selects Mike Pence.
00:28:37.000 from you.
00:28:52.000 But a sad Kool-Aid man, so more like, yeah.
00:28:55.000 So anyway, he shows up at the convention, and he was really ticked because apparently Trump basically promised him that he would make him his vice president.
00:29:04.000 I mean, honestly, Chris Christie should have known.
00:29:06.000 He promised both of his first two wives that he wouldn't cheat on them, and that didn't work out well either.
00:29:10.000 But in any case, Chris Christie is thrown over.
00:29:15.000 Apparently, Trump was thinking on Thursday night, late Thursday night, can I still throw over Mike Pence?
00:29:20.000 And then he decided not to.
00:29:21.000 He decided that he would stick with Pence because Paul Manafort, his kind of lobbyist, well, not his lobbyist, his campaign manager, he said you should pick Pence.
00:29:30.000 So, number one, Republicans keep waiting for Donald Trump to pivot.
00:29:34.000 So Reince Priebus, who's now becoming just a parody of himself, he's just an awkward man looking ever more awkward.
00:29:40.000 Here's what Reince Priebus had to say about Trump news.
00:29:44.000 What you're seeing with the Pence pick, I think the last few weeks have been very good for him.
00:29:49.000 I know what he's thinking about the convention and the future.
00:29:54.000 I think he understands it fully, the pivot to the general.
00:29:57.000 He's never run before for anything.
00:29:59.000 He has been in primary mode for a year, and it was a tough, bruising situation.
00:30:05.000 And I think it's just taken longer to pivot, and I think he's pivoting.
00:30:09.000 Okay, that dude has all the charisma of a manila envelope, and he's saying that Trump will pivot.
00:30:15.000 Okay, so we're waiting for the Trump pivot.
00:30:16.000 So while we wait for the Trump pivot, Trump does a 60 Minutes interview with Mike Pence.
00:30:22.000 And number one, it looks like they did this 60 Minutes interview from the anteroom of Saddam Hussein's palace.
00:30:28.000 I mean, this thing makes Liberace look subtle.
00:30:31.000 They're sitting there and they've got these kind of gold festooned chairs and this white piano in the background and Liberace singing in the background.
00:30:39.000 There's like a tiger on it.
00:30:40.000 It's all weird.
00:30:41.000 And what made it really weird is that Pence is actually a pretty articulate politician.
00:30:46.000 And Donald Trump is famously inarticulate.
00:30:48.000 And so what happens is it's basically like Donald Trump says something like, I'm going to make everything good.
00:30:54.000 It'll be smart.
00:30:55.000 And then Mike Pence goes, I think what Donald is trying to say is we really need to cut back on our entitlements.
00:31:00.000 They're really costing us too much money and are causing trillions of dollars of debt in the future.
00:31:04.000 We're not going to be able to repay without either raising taxes or inflating the currency.
00:31:08.000 And then Donald goes, right.
00:31:10.000 And that's pretty much how the interview goes.
00:31:11.000 So here's some of the more awkward moments from the Trump-Pence partnership.
00:31:16.000 We have to wipe out ISIS.
00:31:17.000 These are people that... With troops on the ground?
00:31:20.000 I am going to have very few troops on the ground.
00:31:22.000 We are going to have unbelievable intelligence, which we need, which right now we don't have.
00:31:27.000 We don't have the people over there.
00:31:30.000 We are going to have surrounding states and, very importantly, get NATO involved because we support NATO far more than we should, frankly, because you have a lot of countries that aren't doing what they're supposed to be doing.
00:31:42.000 But I still don't know if you're going to send troops over.
00:31:44.000 Very little.
00:31:45.000 I'm going to get neighboring states and I'm going to get, we are going to get NATO, we're going to wipe them out.
00:31:50.000 Declare war?
00:31:52.000 What does that mean?
00:31:53.000 This is the kind of leadership that America needs.
00:31:56.000 And we're going to declare war.
00:31:57.000 It is war.
00:31:58.000 When the World Trade Center comes tumbling down with thousands of people being killed, people are still... I have friends that are still suffering.
00:32:03.000 Well, we did go to war, if you remember.
00:32:05.000 We went to Iraq.
00:32:06.000 Yeah, you went to Iraq, but that was handled so badly.
00:32:08.000 And that was a war.
00:32:10.000 By the way, that was a war that we shouldn't have, because Iraq did not knock down... Excuse me, Iraq did not knock down... Your running mate voted for it.
00:32:17.000 I don't care.
00:32:18.000 What do you mean you don't care that he voted?
00:32:20.000 It's a long time ago.
00:32:21.000 And he voted that way, and they were also misled.
00:32:24.000 A lot of information was given to people, but I was against the war in Iraq from the beginning.
00:32:29.000 Yeah, but you used that vote of Hillary's, that was the same as Governor Pence, as the example of her bad judgment.
00:32:37.000 Many people have, and frankly, I'm one of the few that was right on Iraq.
00:32:40.000 But what about he did?
00:32:41.000 He's entitled to make a mistake every once in a while.
00:32:43.000 But she's not.
00:32:44.000 Okay, come on.
00:32:45.000 But she's not.
00:32:46.000 No, she's not.
00:32:48.000 And I did very well in Indiana, like I did just about everywhere, so in all fairness.
00:32:52.000 But I got to know him very well.
00:32:55.000 And I would say that he thought about it a little bit, and about two seconds later he called me with his incredible wife and said... That I'd like to be... Like many others.
00:33:03.000 How does he help you?
00:33:05.000 A lot of the conservatives are very happy.
00:33:07.000 Very happy.
00:33:07.000 Was that part of the decision?
00:33:08.000 Yes.
00:33:09.000 It was part of unity.
00:33:10.000 I'm an outsider.
00:33:12.000 I'm a person that used to be establishment when I'd give them hundreds of thousands of dollars, but when I decided to run, I became very anti-establishment, because I understand the system better than anybody else.
00:33:23.000 He's very establishment in many ways, and that's not a bad thing.
00:33:26.000 But I will tell you, I have seen... You're a brash New Yorker.
00:33:29.000 Religious.
00:33:31.000 Religious?
00:33:31.000 Religious, yeah.
00:33:33.000 Hey, I won the evangelicals.
00:33:35.000 The evangelicals, you know, nobody thought... Well, I think it means a lot.
00:33:39.000 She's crooked Hillary.
00:33:41.000 I didn't ask him to do it.
00:33:43.000 But I don't think he should do it because it's different for him.
00:33:46.000 He's not that kind of a person.
00:33:47.000 We're different people.
00:33:48.000 Don't you think he thinks that's wrong?
00:33:50.000 I don't think he should use John McCain.
00:33:52.000 Do you think he went too far?
00:33:54.000 I mean, you could say yes.
00:33:56.000 That's okay.
00:33:57.000 On that one, you could say yes.
00:33:58.000 I mean, you know, it's fine.
00:33:59.000 Look, I like John McCain, but we have to take care of our fans.
00:34:01.000 But I want to know if Mr. Pence would go in and say to you, what did you say?
00:34:06.000 Would you do something like that?
00:34:08.000 The Constitution, there's nothing like it.
00:34:12.000 But it doesn't necessarily give us the right to commit suicide.
00:34:18.000 It's so painful and it goes on like this.
00:34:30.000 It was like this the entire interview.
00:34:32.000 It's so painful.
00:34:33.000 Mike Pence here looks like he's like the husband with the wife who gets really like she's very unhappy at home and she gets wildly drunk at dinner with another couple and she's just and she's just falling all over herself.
00:34:44.000 God, I can't believe that TV show!
00:34:47.000 He's like, honey, honey.
00:34:48.000 He's like grabbing her under the table, like, please.
00:34:51.000 No, I want to talk!
00:34:52.000 Why are you always trying to keep me quiet?
00:34:53.000 Why don't you love me anymore?
00:34:55.000 That's what it looks like here.
00:34:57.000 It's such an odd dynamic.
00:34:59.000 This is why they're campaigning separately.
00:35:01.000 They need a separation.
00:35:02.000 They need a trial separation.
00:35:03.000 So it's just bizarre.
00:35:05.000 And Penn sitting there awkwardly is just the greatest thing in the world.
00:35:08.000 It's really entertaining.
00:35:11.000 I've come to the point in this election cycle where everything is such crap that anything that entertains me is just worthwhile, so this is very entertaining.
00:35:18.000 See, Hillary's not even entertaining because Hillary's just evil, so evil is less entertaining.
00:35:22.000 This is just buffoonery, so that's pretty funny.
00:35:25.000 I mean, like, him sitting there saying that he's going to declare war on ISIS, but he's going to send very few troops, but not like after 9-11, but we did send troops, but he didn't like that, but Pence did, but Hillary did also.
00:35:35.000 Like, what?
00:35:37.000 Okay, so.
00:35:38.000 This is a problem.
00:35:40.000 This is a problem, guys.
00:35:41.000 And this is why Donald Trump is not blowing away Hillary in the polls.
00:35:44.000 And he should be.
00:35:45.000 He should be really far ahead of her at this point.
00:35:47.000 This should not be a close election.
00:35:48.000 All the events have gone in his favor.
00:35:50.000 Hillary is so unpopular.
00:35:52.000 She's so deeply unpopular.
00:35:53.000 And I think that this partnership is not going to work particularly well because you've got the freewheeling Trump on the one hand, you've got the straight-laced Pence here sitting there just gripping and grinning and trying desperately to not
00:36:09.000 I mean, it's a bizarre world.
00:36:11.000 And it's going to get worse, by the way.
00:36:12.000 On the Democratic side of the aisle, if Hillary picks Elizabeth Warren, it's going to be two crazy shrews on one hand.
00:36:17.000 And over here, you're going to get Crazy Donald and his ventriloquist dummy, Mike Pence, on his lap.
00:36:26.000 As I say, you'll make your own call, gang.
00:36:29.000 You'll make your own call.
00:36:30.000 And again, this doesn't go to values, it doesn't go to the positions they take.
00:36:33.000 I don't even know what positions Trump takes.
00:36:35.000 But it does go to, if this is the pivot, if this was the pivot, then...
00:36:41.000 We have a problem.
00:36:42.000 Meanwhile, the Obama administration continues to be completely delusional.
00:36:45.000 So, there was that attack in Nice last week, where this evil piece of crap Islamist jihadist, he drove a truck over 150 people, basically.
00:36:56.000 And good news, John Kerry, our Secretary of State, he says that ISIS is on the run, and this is proof.
00:37:01.000 Because it turns out that more dead people in the West is proof that ISIS is on the run.
00:37:06.000 What we believe this indicates, however,
00:37:09.000 is that Daesh, ISIL in Syria and Iraq is under great, great pressure.
00:37:15.000 And people are acting out in various places.
00:37:19.000 They are not growing in their ability to do things.
00:37:22.000 They are shrinking.
00:37:24.000 We've taken back 40%, 45% of the territory they held in Iraq.
00:37:29.000 We're squeezing town after town.
00:37:31.000 We've liberated communities.
00:37:33.000 We're making progress now, advancing on Mosul.
00:37:36.000 In Syria, likewise, they're not able to attack and hold towns.
00:37:41.000 They are on the run.
00:37:43.000 And I believe what we're seeing...
00:37:45.000 Okay, so, two things.
00:37:52.000 One is, it's true that ISIS is seeing some problems.
00:37:55.000 They're not on the verge of collapse.
00:37:57.000 I mean, when he says that they're on the run, that they're on the verge of collapse, no, they'll be there for another few years at least.
00:38:03.000 I mean, it's not like they're two months away from complete destruction.
00:38:06.000 And the longer it takes for us to destroy them, the more they can lash out at people and the more they can do these evil things.
00:38:11.000 John Kerry and his Easter Island
00:38:14.000 Egg face.
00:38:16.000 Him going around saying things like, they're on the run.
00:38:19.000 It just sounds delusional at a time when people are running these folks over.
00:38:22.000 It also depends who takes over for them.
00:38:24.000 If Iran fills that gap, if ISIS goes away and Iran fills that gap, we're no better off.
00:38:29.000 Right now, it's being reported by the Associated Press.
00:38:31.000 This is breaking news.
00:38:32.000 Get ready for this.
00:38:32.000 Remember Obama said about the Iran deal that it was going to stop the Iranian nuclear program?
00:38:38.000 They just revealed a document.
00:38:55.000 Since those are five times as efficient, the time Iran would need to make a weapon would drop from a year to six months.
00:39:00.000 In other words, the Obama administration made it easier for the Iranians to get a bomb.
00:39:04.000 And here they are talking about our security.
00:39:05.000 This is why I say, folks, Donald Trump should be up 1,000 points in the polls.
00:39:09.000 Because this is Hillary's administration, and she's evil, and she's terrible, and she's corrupt.
00:39:13.000 And the Obama administration is gross, from Black Lives Matter to Iran.
00:39:16.000 And Trump, his wild incompetence is actually insulting.
00:39:20.000 It's actually an insulting thing at this point.
00:39:23.000 Maybe he can get it under control.
00:39:24.000 Maybe he can.
00:39:25.000 Maybe he'll start being an actual honest-to-God thinking human being, but somehow I sort of doubt it.
00:39:32.000 Okay, time for a thing I like and then a thing I hate.
00:39:35.000 So, things I like.
00:39:36.000 So this week we're gonna do the scariest scenes in movies.
00:39:39.000 So, I'm not doing horror movies because I'm not a big fan of horror movies.
00:39:43.000 Plus, I don't think that they're particularly scary so much as just kind of surprising.
00:39:47.000 Like, they're more shocking than scary.
00:39:49.000 I'm talking about like things that creep you out, things that would actually scare you if you saw them in real life.
00:39:54.000 Not like, the easy scare is it's dark in a room and someone pops their head up and you weren't expecting that.
00:39:58.000 That's less, that's more shocking than scary.
00:40:01.000 This is maybe one of the scariest scenes in movies.
00:40:04.000 And it's funny, but it's scary.
00:40:06.000 It's this scene from The Goodfellas with Joe Pesci and Ray Liotta.
00:40:09.000 And Joe Pesci, who's one of the most frightening figures in film history in this particular film, in Goodfellas, not a film I greatly enjoy, but this is a scary scene.
00:40:17.000 He's absolutely volatile.
00:40:19.000 He'll kill people for, like, nothing.
00:40:20.000 And there's this scene with Ray Liotta where he's making everybody laugh around the dinner table, and then things get very, very tense.
00:40:28.000 Really funny.
00:40:29.000 Really funny.
00:40:30.000 What do you mean, I'm funny?
00:40:33.000 It's funny, you know.
00:40:35.000 It's a good story.
00:40:36.000 It's funny.
00:40:36.000 You're a funny guy.
00:40:38.000 What do you mean?
00:40:39.000 You mean the way I talk?
00:40:40.000 What?
00:40:41.000 It's just, you know, you're just funny.
00:40:44.000 It's... You know, the way you tell the story and everything.
00:40:48.000 Funny how?
00:40:49.000 I mean, what's funny about it?
00:40:51.000 Tommy, no, you got it all wrong.
00:40:52.000 Oh, Anthony.
00:40:54.000 He's a big boy.
00:40:54.000 He knows what he said.
00:40:55.000 What'd you say?
00:40:56.000 Funny how?
00:40:58.000 Just... What?
00:41:00.000 Just... You know, you're funny.
00:41:02.000 You mean... Let me understand this.
00:41:04.000 Maybe it's me.
00:41:05.000 I'm a little fucked up, maybe.
00:41:06.000 But I'm funny how?
00:41:07.000 I mean, funny like I'm a clown?
00:41:09.000 I amuse you?
00:41:10.000 I make you laugh?
00:41:11.000 I'm here to fucking amuse you?
00:41:13.000 What do you mean, funny?
00:41:14.000 Funny how?
00:41:14.000 How am I funny?
00:41:17.000 You know, just... You know how you tell a story?
00:41:21.000 No, no, I don't know.
00:41:22.000 You said it.
00:41:23.000 How do I know?
00:41:24.000 You said I'm funny.
00:41:25.000 How the f**k am I funny?
00:41:26.000 What the f**k is so funny about me?
00:41:28.000 Tell me.
00:41:29.000 Tell me what's funny.
00:41:36.000 Get the f**k out of here.
00:41:37.000 Tommy.
00:41:38.000 I almost had him.
00:41:40.000 I almost had him.
00:41:41.000 Stuttering.
00:41:41.000 Yeah, stuttering.
00:41:43.000 Frankie, was he shaking?
00:41:47.000 I wonder about you sometimes, Henry.
00:41:48.000 You may fold under questioning.
00:41:53.000 Okay, legitimately right after that, legitimately right after that, a guy comes up and gives him the bill and he hits him in the head with a bottle.
00:41:58.000 So it's a, you know, that's one of the scarier scenes in movies.
00:42:02.000 One of the scariest movie villains ever.
00:42:04.000 So we'll do scary movie villains this week.
00:42:06.000 Okay, time for a thing I hate.
00:42:07.000 So, last week I thought for once there might be a ray of sunshine in the news cycle.
00:42:12.000 I thought there might be something good happening in the news cycle.
00:42:14.000 This was the coup in Turkey.
00:42:16.000 So the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is an Islamist, Hamas-loving
00:42:22.000 He's a quasi-ISIS-friendly piece of dreck.
00:42:25.000 He's a bad guy.
00:42:26.000 And he's taken Turkey, which was a secular haven, and he's turned it back into an Islamist state.
00:42:31.000 So now he's been purging the military for 10 years.
00:42:34.000 He's been reintegrating radical Islam into the life of the nation.
00:42:38.000 He's basically bought off some of the political interests in the country, so he's gone to the Kurds, basically, and almost allowed them to set up a separate Kurdistan in the east of Turkey.
00:42:47.000 The Kurds
00:43:04.000 Thank you.
00:43:23.000 These military guys were arrested by Erdogan's police, and now he's arresting 6,000 members of the military.
00:43:29.000 He's imprisoning judges.
00:43:30.000 People are going to get shot.
00:43:31.000 He's going to crack down on the press.
00:43:32.000 He's cracked down on all the members of the media, basically.
00:43:34.000 He's shutting down the internet.
00:43:35.000 He's doing all the things—so, there are people who say that this might have been fake, that basically it was a setup by Erdogan in order to allow him to consolidate his power, that he basically put these people up to a coup.
00:43:45.000 They tried a coup.
00:43:46.000 It failed.
00:43:47.000 And now he comes in and he says, okay, we're going to clean everything up.
00:43:50.000 Now, naturally, the Obama administration waited until basically this thing was over, and then they declared support for Erdogan.
00:43:55.000 Oh, democracy must trump all.
00:43:57.000 Now, I want to make a quick point about democracy here, because I got into this debate with this guy named, I think it's Owen Wilson, not the actor, Owen Wilson in Britain.
00:44:07.000 He's a socialist.
00:44:08.000 And I think if he's not a member of parliament, he's a top official in labor.
00:44:13.000 And he was saying, no, democracy is the most important thing.
00:44:16.000 Democracy is the second most important thing.
00:44:19.000 Values are the most important thing.
00:44:20.000 So Hamas was elected in the Gaza Strip.
00:44:23.000 Hitler was fairly elected in elections.
00:44:25.000 And Mussolini was elected.
00:44:27.000 I would rather have, and I think so would you, I would rather have an unelected but liberal government, like classical liberal government, than an elected socialist or fascist government.
00:44:39.000 And especially if they're going to use that election to undermine the possibility of all future elections, which is basically what Erdogan has been doing.
00:44:45.000 He's imprisoning dissidents and cracking down on the press and purging the military and going after judges.
00:44:51.000 You know, the fact is that, naturally, Obama took the wrong side because he always takes the wrong side.
00:44:54.000 That's just what he does.
00:44:55.000 But the reality is that what we need in the world is voting, sure, but that's a secondary concern to the values that underlie the voting, which is why, you know, the Bush administration's idea that if we just let everybody vote, they have this yearning in the human heart for freedom, it's such nonsense.
00:45:10.000 You have to be trained in freedom.
00:45:12.000 Children have to be trained in freedom.
00:45:13.000 Children are born into dependency but have to be trained in freedom.
00:45:17.000 Because freedom means the ability to make decisions for yourself that aren't stupid.
00:45:20.000 You have to be trained to be a civilized human being to really value and like freedom and want to defend it.
00:45:26.000 That isn't true for a lot of these countries.
00:45:28.000 For a lot of these countries, a lot of the people there have been trained not in freedom.
00:45:31.000 Now in Turkey, they have a population that largely has been trained in freedom, but in the last couple of decades, it's been infused with this Islamism that is going to be very damaging to that state.
00:45:41.000 What was an ally of Israel and the EU is turning against it now.
00:45:45.000 The EU has basically been accepting refugees from Turkey by the hundreds of thousands.
00:45:50.000 In the past few years, a lot of the refugees that you're seeing right now from Syria and Libya are being funneled through Turkey into the rest of the EU.
00:45:57.000 This is really bad news.
00:45:58.000 It's really terrible.
00:45:59.000 Ralph Peters, Lieutenant Colonel Ralph Peters on Fox News, talking about the Turkish coup and he basically gets it right.
00:46:04.000 Well, the situation is indeed murky.
00:46:07.000 We won't know until tomorrow morning at the earliest what's really, who's really winning or who has won.
00:46:14.000 Both sides are trying to spin it.
00:46:16.000 But the macro picture is very, very clear.
00:46:20.000 This coup is Turkey's last chance to avoid becoming an authoritarian Islamic regime, if not an outright Islamic dictatorship.
00:46:31.000 And we should make no mistake, the people staging this coup are the good guys.
00:46:36.000 It sounds paradoxical, but they're the ones on the side of constitutional democracy.
00:46:41.000 President Erdogan has been dismantling the secular constitution, the secular legacy of Ataturk, packing the courts, packing the legislature, packing the upper ranks of the military, all with Islamists.
00:46:53.000 He is not our friend.
00:46:55.000 He is not Turkey's friend.
00:46:57.000 And if this coup fails, you will see a crackdown, and it'll be the excuse to eliminate the last vestiges of secularism.
00:47:05.000 And that's exactly what's happening.
00:47:07.000 That's what we're watching happen in real time.
00:47:08.000 And that's just more terrible news.
00:47:10.000 But this is the year of terrible news, so why not?
00:47:12.000 Whatever is the worst thing that's going to happen, it's going to happen.
00:47:14.000 Just accept it, okay?
00:47:15.000 Basically, accept it.
00:47:17.000 At this point, you know, the asteroid hitting the Earth would be an upgrade.
00:47:19.000 So just expect every piece of news to be bad from here on in, and then it'll get worse on weekends when Klavan is off, and then we'll force it.
00:47:25.000 We'll bring him back in here, we'll chain him up, and we'll force him to do a show, and then the news will get slightly better briefly, and then he'll leave again, and it'll just get worse and worse.
00:47:32.000 So, with that uplifting news,
