The Ben Shapiro Show

Ep. 171 - The Government Goes Nuts For Transgenderism

Summary

After over two decades in the heart of America s spotlight, Hillary Clinton is still sort of an unknown quantity for most Americans. That s thanks to one factor and one factor only, the love and worshipful attention of the mainstream media. Over the weekend, no less than six terrible stories broke that would have crippled anyone else s campaign. And what was the media s response to this tidal wave of incompetence and corruption? Well, naturally, they focused on Trump, naturally. And that s why Trump became the Republican nominee in the first place, because the American people had already rejected the media's capacity for truth-telling. And when the media targeted Trump, and Trump didn t back down, many Republicans resonated to Trump s call. They believed that Trump would hit Clinton with all the material the media had covered up and ignored. And so far, that hasn t panned out. Today, we ll talk about why that is, and why the media are still the gatekeepers, and how they still have no intention of allowing Hillary Clinton to become the story when Trump s tweets can be the story. Plus, we'll talk about the Trump flip on immigration and why Ann Coulter may be on the verge of committing suicide. And we'll play audio of Ann explaining that she's about five minutes from driving down to the local mobile station and dousing herself in gasoline and lighting a match. Ben Shapiro's take on transgender identity and why it's so vital that we should all be teaching transgender students in schools that teach them that they can become men and women who can become women and women. . The Ben Shapiro Show is a must-listen to the truth about transgender identity in public schools, and the politics of the transgender identity crisis. The Daily Mail's new video on the transphobia in the school system in Baltimore, and what it means, not the transgenderism in public education, and much more. This is not your average high school teacher's guide to the transgender education system in America's public high school experience. In this episode of the Ben Shapiro show, you won't want to miss it. It's not your normal high school guidebook, it's a guide to transgender identity, and it's not even better than the one you're going to learn about that's going to be your guide to that in the Daily Mail or The New York Times or the New York Sun, The New Yorker, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, The Onion, and more!

00:00:00.000 After over two decades in the heart of America's spotlight, Hillary Clinton is still sort of an unknown quantity for most Americans.
00:00:06.000 That's thanks to one factor and one factor only, the love and worshipful attention of the mainstream media.
00:00:11.000 Over the weekend, no less than six terrible stories broke that would have crippled anyone else's campaign.
00:00:15.000 First,
00:00:16.000 We learned Clinton aide and confidant and super special absolutely platonic friend Huma Abedin acted as assistant editor on the Radical Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs where she greenlit pieces that stated that quote pushing mothers out into the open labor market is a clear demonstration of a lack of respect of womanhood and motherhood.
00:00:34.000 Among other things.
00:00:35.000 Next, we found out that Clinton had blamed former Secretary of State Colin Powell for giving her the idea to set up a private email server at a dinner party, and that Powell not only denied giving her the idea, but also denied ever having had a dinner conversation on the topic.
00:00:47.000 Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who Clinton also claimed was there for the conversation, she said she wasn't there either.
00:00:52.000 Then we found out the Clinton State Department oversaw about $6 billion in mismanagement, fraud, and incompetence.
00:00:58.000 Then, also, it was revealed that Clinton's pay-for-play, Clinton Foundation donations in exchange for access to the State Department, ran deeper than originally thought.
00:01:06.000 Also, we learned the FBI and Justice Department are investigating the Podesta Group, co-founded by Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta, over its own ties with former Ukrainian president and Vladimir Putin ally Viktor Yanukovych.
00:01:18.000 Finally, we found out the FBI uncovered about 15,000 emails Clinton said never existed and that she failed to disclose to the State Department.
00:01:24.000 Presumably, these all do not concern Yoga and Chelsea Clinton's wedding plans.
00:01:28.000 So, what was the media's response to this tidal wave of incompetence and corruption?
00:01:33.000 Well, they focused on Trump, naturally.
00:01:34.000 That's what they always do.
00:01:36.000 And that's why Trump became the Republican nominee in the first place.
00:01:38.000 See, the media once painted former Governor Mitt Romney the way they paint Trump.
00:01:42.000 They excoriated anyone who dared to ask about President Obama's botched Benghazi policy.
00:01:47.000 They scoffed at Romney's suggestion that Obama's Russian policy had emboldened Moscow.
00:01:52.000 They yelled at legislators like Michelle Bachmann for connecting Huma Abedin to Islamic radicalism via that same Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs.
00:01:59.000 By the time Trump came along, the American people had already rejected the media's capacity for truth-telling.
00:02:04.000 So when the media targeted Trump, and Trump didn't back down, many Republicans resonated to Trump's call.
00:02:10.000 They believed that Trump would hit Clinton with all the material the media had covered up and ignored.
00:02:14.000 So far, of course, that hasn't really panned out.
00:02:16.000 Trump's been pretty distractible, but that doesn't mean he couldn't.
00:02:20.000 If Trump were to target Clinton, he'd be doing the job Americans thought that they nominated him to do, exposing the empress who's protected by the media praetorian guard.
00:02:27.000 If he doesn't, Clinton will become president, scandals and all.
00:02:30.000 The media are still the gatekeepers.
00:02:32.000 They still have no intention of allowing Hillary Clinton to become the story when Trump's tweets can be.
00:02:37.000 I'm Ben Shapiro.
00:02:38.000 This is The Ben Shapiro Show.
00:02:44.000 Alrighty, so here we are, lots to get to today here on the Ben Shapiro Show.
00:02:47.000 I want to start with something a little bit different.
00:02:49.000 So instead of talking presidential politics, we'll get to that in just a little while, the Trump flip on immigration and Coulter.
00:02:56.000 Right now, maybe we have to take away her belt and her shoelaces.
00:03:00.000 Because she may be on the verge of suicide.
00:03:02.000 We'll play audio of Ann later explaining that she's about five minutes from driving down to the local mobile station and dousing herself in gasoline and lighting a match.
00:03:11.000 We'll talk about why that is.
00:03:13.000 But we're going to start today with transgender identity.
00:03:16.000 So the federal government has decided it is absolutely vital and important that everybody in America believe that men can become women and women can become men.
00:03:24.000 And it's so vital that they're going to force
00:03:27.000 Children to engage in this fantasy and if you as a parent say no, if you as a parent say no, then presumably they will come in and take your kids.
00:03:36.000 That's really where this is going.
00:03:37.000 So the reason this comes up today is because there's this school district in Maryland and they've released a video that's sort of an informative video directed toward administrators and teachers.
00:03:51.000 No matter what side of this issue one personally falls on, however, what is clear is this.
00:03:58.000 At Anne Arundel County Public Schools, our charge is to fully support every student in their pursuit of reaching their full potential.
00:04:06.000 We owe students who identify as transgender the same levels of support as we do gay students, poor students, rich students, special education students, ELL students, or any other group of students.
00:04:17.000 Simply put, in a school system that aims to elevate all students and eliminate all gaps, all must mean all.
00:04:24.000 No exceptions.
00:04:26.000 What you are about to view is a training session conducted in June that covers the latest guidance and legal opinions regarding this matter.
00:04:33.000 Clearly, this is an evolving issue, and the guidance from the courts or elsewhere may change in the coming months or years.
00:04:40.000 We will do everything we can to convey any such changes to you in a timely manner so that you can best support our students.
00:04:47.000 Meanwhile, please listen carefully to what you are about to hear.
00:04:50.000 A formal set of guidelines will be provided to principals and department heads to distribute as needed.
00:04:56.000 If you have general questions, please contact the Office of Student Services.
00:05:00.000 If you have specific legal questions on a particular case, please contact the Office of Legal Services.
00:05:07.000 Okay, he goes on in this video to explain that what ought to happen in cases where boys think they are girls and therefore want to go on overnight sleeping trips with girls, what should the school do?
00:05:20.000 So according, this is serious really, according to this school district, according to that guy, Chris Christie over there, according to that dude, the idea here is that we now must not tell parents that it's even happening.
00:05:33.000 We can't tell parents that this is even happening.
00:05:36.000 Really, here's the quote from the video.
00:05:38.000 He says, So, many of you might be asking yourself, So, I'm at an overnight field trip, and I have a student who's biologically male, identifies as female, and we've worked with that student and her family, and that student wants to sleep in the dorms or whatever sleeping arrangements are with the females.
00:05:53.000 They don't want to sleep in a room by themselves, they want to sleep with the rest of the females.
00:05:56.000 So what do we do?
00:05:57.000 And the answer is, they sleep with the females.
00:05:59.000 That's not the easy answer, it's the right answer.
00:06:01.000 And in some cases, it's going to cause issues because the private information piece doesn't allow you to share that with parents of all the other campers.
00:06:08.000 Right?
00:06:08.000 So that's difficult.
00:06:09.000 Okay, so let's just be straight about this.
00:06:11.000 This is not just him saying that they're going to notify the parents that this is their new policy.
00:06:15.000 What he's saying is we won't even tell parents it's happening.
00:06:18.000 We won't even tell parents it's happening.
00:06:20.000 So you have a 12-year-old girl, and she goes on a sleepaway trip for a night to the local aquarium, and there's a 12-year-old boy who thinks he's a girl, and it's okay—not only is it okay by the school district if he sleeps next to the girls, because obviously he's a girl, because he says he is,
00:06:34.000 Not only is that okay, they're not even going to inform the parents about it because it's none of the parents' business if there's a boy sleeping next to the girls.
00:06:42.000 Take it a step up.
00:06:42.000 They're 15 years old now, okay?
00:06:45.000 They've now hit puberty.
00:06:46.000 And you've got a boy who says he's a girl.
00:06:48.000 And he wants to sleep in the same tent as the girls.
00:06:50.000 You're not even going to tell the parents about this.
00:06:52.000 So there are two issues here.
00:06:54.000 One is, well, really three.
00:06:55.000 One is the basic biology of the situation.
00:06:57.000 Boys can't become girls, girls can't become boys.
00:07:00.000 The notion that transgenderism is an objectively real status as far as relabeling someone from male to female is just, it's just foolish.
00:07:10.000 I mean, there's no biological basis to the idea that a man who thinks he's a woman is actually a woman.
00:07:15.000 There's no biological basis to that.
00:07:16.000 There isn't.
00:07:17.000 There's biological basis to the idea this person is suffering from a significant and dangerous mental illness.
00:07:23.000 I think probably most along the lines of anorexia.
00:07:25.000 You know, somebody who just has body dysmorphia, basically.
00:07:28.000 But that's not the same thing as saying that this is now a girl.
00:07:32.000 So the school is, number one, saying, no, this is a girl.
00:07:34.000 That's number one.
00:07:35.000 Number two, they're saying it's nasty and terrible, nasty and awful, if the other girls feel uncomfortable.
00:07:41.000 Now, I'm old enough to remember a time when it was considered bad form for a boy to wander into the girl's locker room.
00:07:48.000 Why?
00:07:49.000 Not because he was going to rape them, but because it makes girls feel uncomfortable to be unclad in front of boys.
00:07:54.000 And it was considered an assault on women, an assault on feminism, to suggest that men should be able to walk into women's locker rooms.
00:08:01.000 Title IX was specifically designed with this in mind.
00:08:03.000 Title IX of the Civil Rights Act was designed with this in mind.
00:08:06.000 The idea that there's men and there's women, and women should be treated equally with men, with equal dignity, and their privacy should be protected.
00:08:13.000 The federal government is so insane that now they're trying to reinterpret this as gender that you identify as.
00:08:19.000 Which, of course, means nothing.
00:08:20.000 Because why have separate locker rooms at all?
00:08:23.000 If the idea is that the girls are so terrible because there's a guy who identifies as a girl coming into their locker room, if they're so terrible, then what's the problem if the guy identifies as a guy?
00:08:32.000 Are you telling me that these people are safer with a guy who identifies as a girl than a guy who identifies as a guy?
00:08:39.000 Where's the scientific evidence to back that one up?
00:08:41.000 That the normal guy is more likely to be a sexual abuser or rapist than the transgender guy.
00:08:46.000 Is there any evidence to support that notion?
00:08:48.000 I mean, I'm waiting for the evidence to support that notion.
00:08:51.000 I'm not making the claim transgender people are outstandingly dangerous.
00:08:54.000 I'm making the claim that other people are not, but the claim seems to be you're less dangerous to women if you're transgender than you would be if you weren't transgender, and I just don't see any evidence to back that up.
00:09:03.000 I'd like to see the rates on that.
00:09:04.000 So that's the second issue, is this crazy notion by the federal government that boys and girls are exactly the same.
00:09:11.000 And then we get to the real issue.
00:09:12.000 And the real issue is the federal government has decided that certain subjective realities can now be imposed on everyone through force of government.
00:09:19.000 Now the government says that if you believe that there's a God, and therefore you believe, and you believe that that God gave us a Bible,
00:09:26.000 And therefore you believe that it's sinful for you to take part in a same-sex wedding.
00:09:30.000 The government says your subjective reality must be overruled by our version of reality in which the Bible is nonsense and you have to serve the gay couple.
00:09:38.000 That's what the federal government essentially says.
00:09:41.000 They say that your subjective reality as a religious person is irrelevant to our concerns.
00:09:46.000 But when it comes to a transgender person saying they're a girl, then all of a sudden we have to abide by their subjective reality.
00:09:52.000 We can't use any objective measures of reality.
00:09:54.000 What's worse,
00:09:55.000 If you as a parent object to this, they will take away your kids.
00:09:58.000 That's the next step.
00:09:59.000 This is where this is going.
00:10:00.000 This is really dangerous stuff.
00:10:02.000 This is where it's going.
00:10:03.000 It's a very short step from your kid is in a bedroom with a transgender girl, and we're not telling you about it, to your kid is having transgender feelings, is having gender dysphoria, is confused about gender, not even transgender feelings, just is confused about his or her gender.
00:10:18.000 You think that that's evidence that the kid needs some psychological help.
00:10:22.000 We think that means the kid should transition.
00:10:24.000 We're coming into the home and we're seizing the kid.
00:10:26.000 We're coming into the home for the protection of the child.
00:10:28.000 The child cannot be victimized by you and your benighted ideas about biological sex.
00:10:34.000 We have to take the kid away from you.
00:10:35.000 That's where this is going.
00:10:36.000 And the left will deny that that's where this is going, of course, but it's obvious that's where this is going.
00:10:40.000 Every time, by the way, the left denies that their hardcore views lead to something bad, within five years it's already led to that thing.
00:10:48.000 But you can see the clear chain here.
00:10:49.000 So they're already doing this with regard to homosexuality.
00:10:51.000 So if you're a religious parent, and you have a kid who might be worried that he's gay,
00:10:55.000 Might be worried that he's experiencing same-sex attraction.
00:10:58.000 The left has already declared, based on absolute pseudoscience, that sexual orientation is immutable and unchanging.
00:11:04.000 There is no evidence, none, that sexual orientation is immutable and unchanging.
00:11:09.000 It could be biological, partly.
00:11:12.000 Certainly it's not wholly biological.
00:11:13.000 They say it could be partly biological, it could be environmental, it could be social.
00:11:16.000 There are a lot of factors that go into shaping sexual orientation, which is why you'll see people like Anne Heche, you know, marry to Ellen DeGeneres and then she leaves Ellen DeGeneres and marries a dude.
00:11:27.000 Right?
00:11:27.000 You see this all the time.
00:11:28.000 You see guys who are straight for their entire lives and suddenly they're gay.
00:11:31.000 It could work the other way too, except the left doesn't wish to acknowledge that there is variability and mutability to sexual orientation.
00:11:38.000 So they create this fiction whereby your biological sex is irrelevant, your gender identity is inborn,
00:11:44.000 You're a boy born in a girl's body, which is nonsense, and your sexual orientation is inborn.
00:11:48.000 You're born gay.
00:11:49.000 You're born straight.
00:11:50.000 You're born this.
00:11:50.000 You're born that.
00:11:51.000 Okay, you're born with certain inclinations, but those inclinations are impacted by environment and society and treatment and all the rest of it, just like every other human behavior.
00:11:58.000 Sex is no exception.
00:12:00.000 So here's the deal.
00:12:03.000 What they did with the religious parent who has a kid who's worried that he might have sexual attraction to somebody of the same sex, religious parents used to say, okay, let's go to the psychiatrist and let's talk about whether this is real, how severe it is, whether this is just normal kind of gender and sexual confusion that happens with a lot of kids.
00:12:21.000 I mean, really, this happens with a lot of kids.
00:12:23.000 There are a lot of kids, if you've ever had a teenage brother or sister, if you've ever been a teenager yourself, the chances are very high that you were sexually confused at one point or another.
00:12:31.000 You can see it in Britain, right?
00:12:31.000 I mean, Britain, there are new polls out that show that only about 40% of British young people consider themselves completely straight.
00:12:39.000 Right?
00:12:39.000 That's as opposed to people above the age of 60, 90% of them consider themselves completely straight.
00:12:45.000 That's because how people view their own sexual orientation changes over time.
00:12:48.000 Their attractions may change over time.
00:12:50.000 The left has decided it's entirely biological.
00:12:53.000 The next step has been, okay, if you have a kid, you're a religious person, and your kid has sexual attraction to another kid of the same sex,
00:13:00.000 And you say, OK, well, let's let's treat that.
00:13:02.000 Let's talk about whether that's a good thing.
00:13:04.000 Let's let's see if you're if you're actually gay or if you're straight, if there's a way to to alter your sexual behavior and your sexual attraction.
00:13:10.000 That's now illegal in the state of California.
00:13:12.000 It's illegal in the state of California.
00:13:13.000 So if you have a gay kid and the gay kid wants to become straight,
00:13:16.000 That's legal in the state of California.
00:13:17.000 If you have a straight kid, or if you have a gay kid, and the gay kid wants to become straight, that's illegal in the state of California for you to take that kid to a psychiatrist or to a psychologist because that's harmful to the child.
00:13:29.000 You can see that's going to be the next step here.
00:13:31.000 The next step is going to be, you have a kid, your kid's three years old, your kid decides one day they want to dress up as a boy, as a girl, and they decide they want to dress up as a boy, and you say, honey, cut it out.
00:13:41.000 Then the kid goes to school and tells the teacher, you know, I was at home and I wanted to dress up as a boy and mommy told me I couldn't.
00:13:47.000 And next thing you know the teacher is calling Child Protective Services saying that you're damaging the psyche of the child because obviously if the kid, the three-year-old, says that she is a he, then she must be right.
00:13:58.000 She is absolutely a he.
00:14:01.000 You can see where this is going because the left has to impose its own version of reality on everybody else.
00:14:05.000 And the reason the left has to impose its own version of reality on everybody else is because the utopia of the left, what the left truly seeks, is a fully androgynized society in which male and female have nothing, there's no separation.
00:14:18.000 They're trying to create an excuse for bigger government, in essence.
00:14:21.000 Because the truth is, we all have various differences.
00:14:23.000 Male, female, tall, short, strong, weak.
00:14:27.000 We all have various differences that we're born with.
00:14:30.000 And those differences contribute to our outcomes in life.
00:14:34.000 The left doesn't like that.
00:14:34.000 So what the left wants to do is just pretend that there are no differences.
00:14:38.000 That in the end, all differences can be wiped away.
00:14:40.000 If we just change society around us.
00:14:42.000 So men can become women, women can become men.
00:14:45.000 Gay people can't become straight, but straight society should just assume that all kids who have any sort of sexual attraction at any point to another kid of the same sex, those people are immutably gay.
00:14:54.000 All of this is designed to lead to familial confusion, larger government control, and an attempt to break down the family structure so that when we are all genderless, androgynous widgets who are fully mutable in terms of our sex, then the government can step in and make everybody equal.
00:15:09.000 So the government uses the excuse of bullying in order to cram down its own version of reality, and they cram down their own version of reality in order to assert their power over you and your ability to parent and your ability to take care of your own kid.
00:15:21.000 We'll talk a little bit more about that in just a little while, but you have to go to Daily Wire for the rest of that to subscribe to the rest of the show.
00:15:28.000 Lots more coming up.
00:15:29.000 We have an epic episode of Good Trump, Bad Trump coming up.
00:15:31.000 We also have an amazing song, an amazing song from the alt-right that I cannot wait to play for you.
00:15:37.000 It involves some of the best saxophoning you will ever hear.
00:15:40.000 So we'll get to that.

00:16:10.000 Okay, so now on to the presidential race.
00:16:12.000 So, there's been a lot of hubbub over the past 48 hours because Donald Trump is beginning to soften on illegal immigration.
00:16:20.000 And I have all sorts of jokes that I could make about that, but I won't.
00:16:22.000 But here's Donald Trump yesterday sharing the stage with Border Patrol mothers of people killed by illegals, and here he is standing next to Sean Hannity talking about it.
00:16:36.000 Nineteen years as a Border Patrol agent has taught me one thing.
00:16:41.000 Our borders are not secure.
00:16:45.000 Forty to sixty percent effectiveness is not a secure border.
00:16:49.000 And that's what we have today.
00:16:51.000 We only arrest forty to sixty percent of those who cross the border.
00:16:56.000 Donald Trump will change that.
00:16:59.000 And it needs to be changed.
00:17:06.000 Your country is not safe.
00:17:08.000 Our homes are not safe unless Donald Trump changes the security of the border, and he will do that.
00:17:16.000 And that's why we endorsed him.
00:17:18.000 Thank you very much.
00:17:19.000 Okay, so that's the Border Patrol agent.
00:17:21.000 But you have really great people wanting and so proudly wanting to come into a country
00:17:51.000 And now what you'd be doing is you'd take people away from that line.
00:17:56.000 Is there any part of the law that you might be able to change that would accommodate those people that contribute to society, have been law-abiding, have kids here?
00:18:05.000 Would there be any room in your mind?
00:18:08.000 Because I know you had a meeting this week with Hispanic leaders.
00:18:11.000 I did.
00:18:11.000 I had a meeting with great people, great Hispanic leaders, and there certainly can be a softening because we're not looking to hurt people.
00:18:18.000 We want people.
00:18:19.000 We have some great people in this country.
00:18:21.000 We have some great, great people in this country.
00:18:24.000 But we're going to follow the laws of this country.
00:18:28.000 What people don't realize, what people don't realize, we have very, very strong laws.
00:18:34.000 Yeah, but Obama doesn't follow them.
00:18:35.000 He doesn't care.
00:18:36.000 Okay, so he's gonna have a softening, we're gonna soften, we gotta do it, we gotta be nice to people now.
00:18:41.000 Flashback to, like, last October.
00:18:45.000 And here's Donald Trump last October talking with Matt Lauer over here, talking specifically about what he is going to do.
00:18:54.000 But I don't want 250,000 people coming into the United States.
00:18:58.000 We can't handle it.
00:18:58.000 How many would you take?
00:18:59.000 I would take none.
00:19:01.000 No, I would take none.
00:19:02.000 I would take none.
00:19:03.000 Right now, I would take none.
00:19:06.000 But I'll take better care of them, Matt, because what I would, I would take a big swatch of land and I'd have lots of other people, including Germany.
00:19:14.000 Germany's crazy what they're doing.
00:19:16.000 They are having riots in their streets right now.
00:19:18.000 These people are coming in and they're having a lot of problems with crime and other things.
00:19:22.000 We have to help these people.
00:19:24.000 I'm okay with it.
00:19:25.000 But they're not coming to the United States, Matt.
00:19:28.000 OK, he continued along those lines.
00:19:30.000 That was actually not the relevant part.
00:19:31.000 The relevant part is when he actually said at one point, we will deport everybody.
00:19:35.000 He was asked, will you deport the 11 million illegal immigrants?
00:19:37.000 We got to do it.
00:19:38.000 We got to do it.
00:19:38.000 OK, so now, obviously, he's flipped.
00:19:40.000 And now he's softening it up.
00:19:42.000 And Sean Hannity is just massaging his leg all the way through the process.
00:19:47.000 Meanwhile, and Mike Pence, by the way, is still saying, Mike Pence is VP candidate.
00:19:53.000 He says, don't worry, we're still working on the policy.
00:19:55.000 We haven't really figured this thing out yet.
00:19:57.000 We're good to go.
00:20:20.000 Well, you're not going to sort it out with Congress in the coming days.
00:20:23.000 That would have to wait for a potential Trump-Pence administration.
00:20:29.000 Mike Pence continued by saying that Trump's immigration policy is going to reflect compassion and humanity.
00:20:35.000 Beyond that, I just think, you know, stay tuned.
00:20:37.000 Another one of these major speeches is coming up.
00:20:40.000 Donald Trump will address the issue of immigration.
00:20:43.000 I guarantee you that he's going to be a man of his word.
00:20:47.000 Securing our borders, enforcing our laws, and whatever else we do will be tough, but fair, and it will reflect the kind of compassion and humanity that the American people would expect.
00:20:59.000 And frankly, that proceeds out of the character of this good man.
00:21:04.000 I mean, Donald Trump is a... I saw it in Louisiana on the streets last Friday.
00:21:10.000 Uh, where he was embracing families that had been caught up in that hundred years flood.
00:21:14.000 This is a deeply compassionate man, but he's a man committed to the rule of law.
00:21:19.000 I think the American people know that, and you're going to see that unpacked in the weeks ahead.
00:21:23.000 Believe me, believe me.
00:21:24.000 So he's, so, so the new spiel is that we're getting compassion and humanity from Donald Trump.
00:21:30.000 Meanwhile, Jeff Sessions is, it's kind of funny to watch some of the people who jumped on the Trump train specifically because they liked Trump on immigration.
00:21:37.000 Now, full disclosure.
00:21:39.000 A few years ago, probably a couple of years ago, I had a dinner with Jeff Sessions and Stephen Miller, who's now the campaign, one of the campaign directors, policy directors for Donald Trump, and Ann Coulter.
00:21:49.000 And the three of us were sitting, I mean, we're talking like till two o'clock in the morning, sitting up having beer and talking immigration, because it's all Ann Coulter and Jeff Sessions really like to talk about is immigration.
00:21:58.000 And they were both very much on the same page.
00:22:00.000 And of course, both of them have jumped behind Trump, largely on the basis of Trump's harsh stance on immigration.
00:22:06.000 And now you can see them clinging to the slender reed of Donald Trump's honor and dignity, right?
00:22:12.000 Here's Jeff Sessions saying, no, no, no, no, no.
00:22:14.000 Trump hasn't changed.
00:22:15.000 He hasn't changed.
00:22:15.000 Come on.
00:22:16.000 Is that true?
00:22:17.000 Has he changed his view on deportation?
00:22:19.000 He has not changed his view, but he had a great meeting with people who had different ideas, and I understand I wasn't there, but he had a good discussion.
00:22:28.000 He listened to all the different views.
00:22:30.000 Look, we need a lawful system of immigration.
00:22:33.000 Trump is absolutely clear and correct on that.
00:22:37.000 We must end the lawlessness first.
00:22:40.000 We can't talk about these other issues until that occurs.
00:22:43.000 I think that remains his firm position.
00:22:46.000 Okay, we can stop it there.
00:22:48.000 This is not his original position.
00:22:50.000 His original position was not we build the wall and then we worry about the people here.
00:22:53.000 His original position was he was going to deport everybody.
00:22:56.000 And by the way, let me mention something about this wall.
00:22:58.000 The chief problem we have with illegal immigration has nothing to do with the wall.
00:23:02.000 Okay, the physical barrier between the United States and Mexico is not the problem.
00:23:05.000 There's a giant river that runs through Texas that separates Mexico from Texas.
00:23:10.000 It's a giant physical barrier.
00:23:11.000 People are still crossing in massive numbers because they're just floating right across the Rio Grande and then they are walking up to ICE officers knowing that they're going to be detained but not supported.
00:23:21.000 Okay, so the deportations are the core of what Trump is talking about.
00:23:24.000 Ann Coulter last night looked like she was beside herself.
00:23:27.000 I mean, I've been friends with Ann for a very long time, but Ann Coulter looked like she was ready to take a plunge off a very high building.
00:23:35.000 She's on with Chris Maddow, I'm at my stake!
00:23:37.000 She's talking about her new book, In Trump We Trust, which, by the way, I mean, Ann, come on.
00:23:40.000 In Trump We Trust?
00:23:41.000 Really?
00:23:42.000 I know the inflammatory title thing, and you do it for selling books, but In Trump We Trust?
00:23:46.000 Like, he's actually God now?
00:23:47.000 In Trump We Trust?
00:23:49.000 I will say, there's a certain irony in writing a book called In Trump We Trust, and literally the day of your book launch, you were nagged on the only issue you care about.
00:23:55.000 Remember, it's not that Ann Coulter, her main issue is immigration, it's that it's the only issue for Ann.
00:24:01.000 And you can watch me interview Ann about this.
00:24:02.000 I did an hour-long interview when her last book, Adios America, came out.
00:24:05.000 I did an hour-long interview with her, it was on C-SPAN, in which we talked about all of the gradations of her position and what she felt about it.
00:24:12.000 We went through her book basically chapter by chapter.
00:24:15.000 This is all she cares about, and it was on that basis that she supported Trump, and here is Anne basically saying, well, if Trump flips, I don't know what I'm gonna do.
00:24:23.000 What's Trump saying to the American people right now about immigration?
00:24:26.000 What did all that add up to?
00:24:27.000 How's it different than Obama?
00:24:28.000 How's it different from all the candidates he just beat?
00:24:31.000 I go through, that's one of the five talking points every politician says.
00:24:33.000 He's going to throw out, he's going to deport the felons.
00:24:36.000 Well, it's very different from the actual policy, but they all say that, and it just sounds very consultant to me.
00:24:42.000 This could be the shortest book tour ever if he's really softening his position on immigration, but I don't think he is.
00:24:48.000 Okay, so she says that she doesn't think he is, but she seems a little uncertain.
00:24:52.000 I know what Anne looks like when she's certain, and she seems a little uncertain here.
00:24:56.000 And it is kind of humorous to say that she's going to have the shortest book tour ever if Trump reneges on his promise.
00:25:00.000 Now, I will say this.
00:25:02.000 I don't think this is going to have a major impact on Trump.
00:25:04.000 I think most of the people who are Trump fans
00:25:06.000 I think that if Donald Trump said tomorrow that he was going to amnesty and give full citizenship to all 11 million illegal immigrants, at least half of the people who support him would nod along and say, better than Hillary.
00:25:30.000 Really, because he has gained a serious support base and a lot of personal brand loyalty.
00:25:37.000 And this is the problem.
00:25:39.000 A lot of people are on my case.
00:25:40.000 Why don't you just jump on the Trump train?
00:25:41.000 Just jump on the Trump train!
00:25:43.000 One of the reasons why I think it's important that people at least have one foot off, even if you're on the Trump train, you should have one foot off, is if you wish for him to be held accountable for his policy, if you actually want him to do the things you want him to do, you have to keep pressuring him.
00:25:57.000 Donald Trump is not a trustworthy man.
00:25:58.000 Even his supporters should know this.
00:26:01.000 Unless you are pressuring him from the outside and cheering him from the inside when he does something you like, he can flip on you in a heartbeat.
00:26:07.000 I'm trying to think of a major policy issue he hasn't flipped on other than free trade.
00:26:11.000 Because now he's basically flipped on all of them.
00:26:14.000 So if you want to keep pressuring him, you need to pressure him from the outside.
00:26:16.000 It's important to keep up the pressure.
00:26:18.000 That's why, actually, I respect Dan for saying that, because at least Dan is with it enough to understand that if she truly cares about immigration, she's going to have to hold his feet to the fire if he flips on it.
00:26:28.000 Okay, meanwhile, this is a disappointing thing.
00:26:33.000 So that was some bad Trump, but we're going to do a final round.
00:26:36.000 I promised good Trump, bad Trump, just so we could play the theme.
00:26:37.000 So good Trump, bad Trump.
00:26:38.000 Let's do it.
00:26:46.000 Alrighty, let's begin with Good Trump.
00:26:48.000 So, here is Good Trump.
00:26:49.000 Trump ran, he has a new ad targeting Hillary Clinton.
00:26:52.000 This is from the RNC, and this is what he should be hitting pretty much every day.
00:26:59.000 Well, what I say to that is, I turned over everything I was obligated to turn over, and then I moved on.
00:27:14.000 And now the State Department has everything that they could have.
00:27:18.000 Today the State Department confirmed a report that the FBI found 15,000 emails.
00:27:24.000 No, no, it was allowed.
00:27:25.000 You know, one of my predecessors did the same thing.
00:27:28.000 Previous secretaries of state have said they did the same thing.
00:27:32.000 The truth is she was using the private email server for a year before I sent her a memo telling her what I did.
00:27:39.000 My predecessors had engaged in a similar practice.
00:27:43.000 And that he didn't have a private server.
00:27:45.000 And that she was doing it before this advice that he gave her.
00:27:50.000 Damage has been done.
00:27:51.000 There's no question.
00:27:55.000 Good ad, right?
00:27:56.000 And says, will she ever tell the truth at the end?
00:27:58.000 And of course, she will never tell the truth.
00:27:59.000 So that's good Trump.
00:28:00.000 And if it were again, if he just kept targeting Hillary Clinton, he'd be in good shape.
00:28:04.000 Then there is bad Trump.
00:28:06.000 So Kellyanne Conway, who I've said seems like the most with it of the new team, because I think that Steve Bannon is just a
00:28:14.000 He is a tsunami of garbage.
00:28:16.000 Steve Bannon is one of the two new entries to the Trump campaign.
00:28:19.000 Kellyanne Conway seems like the rational side of the team.
00:28:21.000 She did, at least until a couple of days ago.
00:28:24.000 A couple of days ago, Kellyanne Conway came out and she said, the polls are real.
00:28:28.000 We're losing right now, but we can bring it back up.
00:28:31.000 The problem is the polls haven't moved in the last week and a half.
00:28:33.000 Trump had a pretty good week and a half, aside from that campaign blunder where the shift in the campaign went poorly.
00:28:39.000 Now, Kellyanne Conway is buying into my least favorite thing in the world.
00:28:43.000 She's joined the insane Trump clown posse of poll deniers.
00:28:47.000 Magnets!
00:28:48.000 How do they work?
00:28:48.000 And don't tell me any of them scientists.
00:28:51.000 Okay, here's Kellyanne Conway explaining that there's no such thing as a real poll.
00:28:56.000 Donald Trump performs consistently better in online polling, where a human being is not talking to another human being about what he or she may do in the election.
00:29:04.000 Why is that, do you think?
00:29:05.000 It's because it's become socially desirable, especially if you're a college-educated person in the United States of America, to say that you're against Donald Trump.
00:29:12.000 The hidden Trump vote in this country is a very significant proposition.
00:29:16.000 Have you been able to put a number on that?
00:29:19.000 Yes.
00:29:20.000 What do you think that is?
00:29:21.000 I can't discuss it.
00:29:22.000 Oh, come on.
00:29:22.000 No, it's a project we're doing internally.
00:29:24.000 I call it the Undercover Trump Voter, but it's real.
00:29:27.000 The Undercover Trump Voters.
00:29:28.000 It's like undercover, what is it?
00:29:31.000 Undercover cop or undercover, what's the name of the show?
00:29:34.000 There's a show, whatever.
00:29:36.000 Oh, undercover boss.
00:29:36.000 It's undercover boss, except it's undercover pollsters.
00:29:39.000 And so she's saying that there are a bunch of secret Trump voters and they're sitting around and they won't pick up the phone or if you ask them, they'll say they vote for Hillary Clinton or Gary Johnson.
00:29:47.000 But secretly, secretly, deep down in the cockles of their hearts, they're going to vote for Donald Trump.
00:29:52.000 Okay.
00:29:53.000 No, they're not.
00:29:55.000 Okay?
00:29:55.000 The fact is, the polls reflect reality as it currently stands, and the polls are not good for Donald Trump.
00:30:00.000 This is myth-making of the highest order, and it doesn't do any good, because it doesn't encourage Trump to get any better.
00:30:05.000 If she's suggesting that Trump is actually winning when he's actually losing, this is stupid.
00:30:08.000 Again, polls are just polls.
00:30:10.000 This drives me up a wall, as you know.
00:30:13.000 This drives me fully crazy.
00:30:17.000 The online polls that have been taken are more beneficial to Trump because most of the online polls are not official.
00:30:22.000 Most of the online polls are like drudge polls.
00:30:24.000 I love drudge report, but let's be real, drudge report watchers, drudge report viewers, the people who go to his page, are pro-Trump.
00:30:34.000 When it shows that he won every single debate, I loved that during the primaries where Trump would say, all the polls show that I won every single debate.
00:30:40.000 All of them show that all the people love me.
00:30:42.000 All the people.
00:30:44.000 But then you go to the Drudge poll and it's like, yes, because Drudge likes you, right?
00:30:48.000 So of course all the people at Drudge like you.
00:30:50.000 The polls are not lying.
00:30:51.000 Donald Trump is losing.
00:30:52.000 They need to stop with this kind of crap.
00:30:54.000 I mean, she said two days ago, we have to stop attacking the referee.
00:30:57.000 And there she is attacking the referee.
00:30:59.000 There's the secret undercover Trump voter.
00:31:01.000 Again, I've never met one of these people.
00:31:02.000 The Trump supporters are the loudest people in the political biosphere.
00:31:06.000 I mean, they are the loudest.
00:31:08.000 I don't know who are all these secret—I understand, this is based on something called the Bradley effect.
00:31:12.000 Back in the 1980s, there was a guy who was running for mayor of Los Angeles named Tom Bradley, and Tom Bradley was slated to win and he lost, and the reason he lost is apparently because there were a bunch of people who said they wanted to vote for the black guy but then didn't, because Tom Bradley was black.
00:31:25.000 That is not happening here, okay?
00:31:27.000 There are not a bunch of people who say that they're not voting Trump, but then they're secretly voting Trump.
00:31:31.000 If they are, we're talking about inside of 1%.
00:31:33.000 It is not a large number.
00:31:35.000 Okay.
00:31:36.000 With all that said, Hillary Clinton's campaign is just the same kind of crap show, except it's much worse, because Hillary is much more corrupt than Trump.
00:31:43.000 As I mentioned at the top of the program, Hillary's been hit by all these scandals.
00:31:47.000 The newest one from the Associated Press, at least half of the people who she visited with while she was Secretary of State gave money to the Clinton Foundation.
00:31:55.000 Which is amazing.
00:31:55.000 Like, I have lunch with a lot of people, and very few of them pay me for lunch.
00:32:00.000 I think that's happened one time.
00:32:02.000 That somebody actually paid me to go to dinner with them.
00:32:03.000 But that's pretty rare.
00:32:05.000 Hillary Clinton, there are 150-some people, and more than 80 of them, gave money to the Clinton Foundation and suddenly found themselves in her good graces.
00:32:13.000 She's super duper corrupt.
00:32:15.000 And so, the Democratic Party is splitting in the same way that the Republican Party is now splitting over Trump and immigration.
00:32:21.000 You're starting to see some Democrats come out in Hillary's defense, and some Democrats are running for the hills.
00:32:26.000 So, here is one Hillary surrogate suggesting that Hillary's pay-to-play is really, it's not a big deal.
00:32:32.000 All of this is just fine.
00:32:45.000 Something to the effect, I'm paraphrasing, have already received this request through proper channels.
00:32:53.000 I'm glad you brought that up.
00:32:56.000 Through proper channels, Hillary Clinton didn't want to have the meeting.
00:32:58.000 She said the meeting shouldn't be scheduled.
00:33:00.000 No, she didn't.
00:33:01.000 She said the meeting was scheduled right now.
00:33:03.000 I'm not sure I want to be there for it at the time.
00:33:05.000 When Doug Bann talked to Huma Abedin, then Huma Abedin made it happen.
00:33:08.000 That's not the chronology of it, A. And B, when she said she didn't want to be there, she said she wasn't sure whether she was going to be in D.C.
00:33:16.000 or back in New York.
00:33:18.000 This is pay-for-flight.
00:33:48.000 Whoa.
00:33:48.000 Shortly after.
00:33:49.000 Shortly after this exchange.
00:34:05.000 Shortly after this exchange, Hillary Clinton supporter Christine Quinn was put into a white coat and dragged away to the asylum for screaming like a banshee.
00:34:12.000 But I love that she basically says—I love that the reporter who's standing in for Jake Tapper there on CNN says, yeah, Hillary rejected the meeting.
00:34:20.000 She got the bribe, and then she went to the meeting.
00:34:22.000 And Christine Quinn's like, yeah, but the bribe achieved something good.
00:34:25.000 That's not the point.
00:34:27.000 The point is that she was bribed, right?
00:34:29.000 I mean, the point is that the Clinton Foundation receives things, and in exchange, they give favors.
00:34:33.000 Howard Dean does the same routine.
00:34:35.000 When he's not screaming wildly about going to Washington, D.C.
00:34:38.000 to take back the White House, he also says that we should stop worrying about Hillary's emails.
00:34:45.000 The full Clinton defense wing has been deployed.
00:34:48.000 We've seen nothing in 30,000 of them.
00:34:50.000 I doubt we're going to see anything of a substance in the next 14,000.
00:34:53.000 This is all the Republicans have.
00:34:55.000 They've wasted $7 million of the taxpayers' money.
00:34:58.000 They're going to waste a lot more in the next 77 days.
00:35:01.000 And this is not going to be an issue, except for those people who don't like Hillary Clinton.
00:35:05.000 Okay, first of all, you care about wasting $7 million.
00:35:07.000 You're a Democrat, okay?
00:35:09.000 In the last second that I spent saying that, we spent $7 million on the federal level.
00:35:13.000 But second of all, he says, we've already seen 30,000 Hillary emails and we haven't seen anything of interest.
00:35:18.000 Really?
00:35:18.000 Like nothing of interest?
00:35:20.000 Like all the classified material that the FBI said that she was using a personal email for?
00:35:25.000 There's nothing of interest there?
00:35:27.000 And we didn't see anything of interest in the fact that she and Huma Abedin were coordinating with the Clinton Foundation directly on activities?
00:35:34.000 Nothing there?
00:35:35.000 But this is the myth that's been put out there.
00:35:37.000 So that's one side of the Democratic Party.
00:35:38.000 The other side is, you know, people who are beginning to realize that this may, in fact, be a problem.
00:35:43.000 Chris Matthews, I'm not going to say, man, it comes out of the show!
00:35:46.000 He was very upset about this last night.
00:35:47.000 Hillary Clinton!
00:35:48.000 I don't know why you can't just keep yourself in control, Hillary Clinton!
00:35:51.000 Come on!
00:35:51.000 First of all, you're sitting there, you're wearing a yellow coat, looks like you killed Chairman Mallin, took his wardrobe.
00:35:57.000 Hillary Clinton is the worst.
00:35:59.000 Go!
00:35:59.000 Why is Bill Clinton saying, I'm not going to be head of it anymore if she gets elected president?
00:36:04.000 Why is he pulling out if it's not a problem?
00:36:05.000 He thinks it's a problem.
00:36:07.000 Well, they were always going to try to figure out, it'll be the first time that he will be... They just announced this week that they're not going to take money from overseas anymore.
00:36:15.000 They're not going to take money from... They are admitting there's a conflict.
00:36:18.000 Everybody watching now knows that when you give to a politician, you expect access.
00:36:24.000 When they call up and say, he wants to meet with you sometime this week, you get the meeting!
00:36:29.000 Okay, so there you go.
00:36:32.000 I mean, and he's right, he's right.
00:36:33.000 So there's chaos on the left side of the aisle too, and if it weren't for the chaos on the right side of the aisle, that would make it a lot easier.
00:36:40.000 But, you know, this is the business we have chosen, as they say.
00:36:44.000 Okay, time for things I like and then some things I hate.
00:36:47.000 So things I like, we've been doing sort of Israel edition, so I want to give some biblical criticism.
00:36:51.000 A biblical criticism book that I think is really terrific.
00:36:54.000 Rabbi David Forman is the author of this one.
00:36:56.000 It's called The Beast That Crouches at the Door.
00:36:58.000 And it's a really good biblical analysis of Adam and Eve and what the Bible is talking about in Adam and Eve and Cain and Abel.
00:37:04.000 A really, really fascinating book.
00:37:06.000 You can get it on Amazon.com.
00:37:07.000 Rabbi Forman runs an organization called Aleph Beta that allows people to listen to classes online.
00:37:13.000 And this book is really terrific, has a really fascinating take.
00:37:16.000 We're good to go.
00:37:35.000 That there's the sound of hatred.
00:37:36.000 So, things I hate.
00:37:38.000 Ben Carson, I'm beginning to think that neurosurgery can actually be an idiot savant thing.
00:37:44.000 Because Ben Carson is the worst campaign surrogate ever.
00:37:48.000 So Ben Carson's on national TV, and he's trying to talk up the idea that Hillary Clinton is unhealthy.
00:37:52.000 Again, I still don't understand the angle here.
00:37:54.000 That if you say she's unhealthy often enough, people are like, oh she's gonna die, I'll vote for Trump, I'll vote for that sack of gas over there.
00:38:01.000 So Ben Carson,
00:38:02.000 Goes on national TV and he wants to talk about Hillary Clinton's health and why it's important.
00:38:08.000 And then things kind of just go off the rails a little bit.
00:38:11.000 I think that somebody who is running for president of the United States, particularly if they're elderly, and that would include both major candidates, should disclose their medical history.
00:38:24.000 And I'm not talking about from a year or two years ago.
00:38:28.000 I'm talking about currently.
00:38:31.000 And I think that again is common sense.
00:38:35.000 It makes sense because as people get older, things begin to happen to them.
00:38:38.000 But the implication from Rudy Giuliani, what do you think about that?
00:38:42.000 Sowing a seed of doubt about a person's health based upon something he read on the internet.
00:38:50.000 Well, you know, as a physician, physicians and scientists
00:38:54.000 Generally will not make a diagnosis based on something that they see from a long distance.
00:39:00.000 They want to have the facts.
00:39:03.000 And so you would have no diagnosis yourself on Hillary Clinton, Dr. Carson?
00:39:08.000 My diagnosis would be that anybody who is elderly should expose their records and we, the people, should know what they are because it's a very stressful job.
00:39:18.000 It's not an eight hour a day job.
00:39:21.000 It's 24-7.
00:39:23.000 And we need to make sure that that is taken care of.
00:39:26.000 And you agree Donald Trump should be held to that same standard because he hasn't done that either.
00:39:30.000 Absolutely.
00:39:32.000 Without question.
00:39:34.000 Okay, there's only one problem.
00:39:35.000 Donald Trump has not turned over his complete medical records.
00:39:38.000 So well done, Dr. Carson, from shifting the onus of responsibility on Hillary to release her full medical records to now Donald Trump's release his full medical records.
00:39:47.000 Officially the worst campaign surrogate ever, Dr. Ben Carson.
00:39:50.000 Okay, other things that I hate.
00:39:52.000 So people have been emailing me, why don't you vote for Gary Johnson?
00:39:54.000 You don't like Trump, why don't you vote for Gary Johnson?
00:39:56.000 Because Gary Johnson's terrible.
00:39:57.000 So, Gary Johnson is the worst libertarian ever.
00:40:00.000 He is not libertarian in any major respect.
00:40:02.000 He has said that he's in favor of the government cramming down its view of commerce on people in spite of their religious liberty.
00:40:10.000 And the other day, he's on Fox News, and he decides, you know what I'm going to do?
00:40:13.000 I'm going to go on there and I'm going to defend Black Lives Matter, and I'm going to do so by citing a bunch of statistics that are just not true.
00:40:18.000 Here he is with Eric Bolling.
00:40:21.000 You said something the other day that really just kind of rocked my brain a little bit.
00:40:24.000 You said you praise Black Lives Matter.
00:40:27.000 Yes.
00:40:27.000 And you also push back rather aggressively on the phrase, all lives matter.
00:40:33.000 Why?
00:40:33.000 Well, not a pushback, but all lives do matter.
00:40:37.000 But when it comes to whites, guess what?
00:40:39.000 We're not being shot at the rate of six times blacks are being shot at.
00:40:44.000 When it comes to the war on drugs, if you are of color, there's a four times more likelihood that you'll end up behind bars as opposed to being of color.
00:40:54.000 So it's real.
00:40:56.000 And Eric, what I hope I said was, is look, I've had my head in the sand over this.
00:41:03.000 I'd like everybody out there to watch that documentary on O.J.
00:41:07.000 Simpson and take a look at what transpired prior to the O.J.
00:41:12.000 Simpson trial.
00:41:12.000 Can I just clarify though?
00:41:13.000 Sure.
00:41:14.000 Blacks are being shot six times more often than whites.
00:41:17.000 Yes.
00:41:17.000 But they're committing eight times the amount of crime than whites.
00:41:21.000 Well, but back to this crime thing.
00:41:24.000 Juan, do you want to chime in?
00:41:26.000 Under those numbers, blacks are being treated more fairly than whites under those numbers.
00:41:35.000 Well, the war on drugs.
00:41:37.000 The war on drugs.
00:41:38.000 That unfairly, blacks are targeted.
00:41:41.000 is targeted as opposed to you being white.
00:41:44.000 That's simply not true.
00:41:45.000 Okay, so let me stop it.
00:41:46.000 So he's citing all these statistics and they're not true.
00:41:48.000 I mean, maybe what Gary Johnson means is I should be in jail because I've smoked more pot than the entire state of Arizona.
00:41:54.000 But, Gary Johnson, when he says that blacks are being targeted by law enforcement in drug crimes, that's not true disproportionate to the amount of drug dealing that's going on.
00:42:04.000 When he talks about the sentencing, that's also not true.
00:42:07.000 When he talks about the levels of crime versus the levels of shootings,
00:42:10.000 That's not true.
00:42:11.000 So he's citing all of these false statistics.
00:42:14.000 By the way, when it comes to drug crimes, the vast, vast, vast majority of people in prison are not in prison on the basis of drug crime alone.
00:42:20.000 Okay?
00:42:21.000 Most of the people who are in for drug possession were drug dealing, and then they were plead down to a drug possession charge to do jail time.
00:42:29.000 And the people who actually stumped for the stronger sentences for crack cocaine were black people from the inner city who were sick of watching crack cocaine ravage the inner city.
00:42:39.000 But Gary Johnson, like some libertarians, doesn't like the government very much generally, and therefore he's against law enforcement more generally.
00:42:48.000 But he's not a good libertarian.
00:42:49.000 He's not even like a Rand Paul libertarian.
00:42:51.000 So, for example, it now turns out that the libertarian nominee said he's no skeptic of man-made global warming, and he's now endorsed a fee on carbon dioxide emissions.
00:43:01.000 Yes, that's right.
00:43:02.000 He now says, I believe climate change is occurring, I believe that it is man-caused, and that there can be and is a free market approach to climate change.
00:43:10.000 He says there should be a fee, but not a tax.
00:43:12.000 That's called a tax, folks.
00:43:14.000 So now he's in favor of Al Gore's plan for climate credits.
00:43:17.000 We've tried it in the state of California.
00:43:19.000 It's been a dismal failure.
00:43:21.000 Gary Johnson, the small government guy, coming out in favor of a policy that would basically destroy heavy industry in the United States.
00:43:28.000 It's pretty amazing.
00:43:31.000 All right, time for a little bit of biblical analysis because, indeed, it is Wednesday.
00:43:34.000 So, this week's Parsha, this week's Torah portion, every week, as I always explain, there's a Torah portion, a portion of the five books of Moses that Jews read.
00:43:43.000 By the end of the year, we've read through the entire Torah, the entire five books of Moses.
00:43:47.000 This week's Torah portion is called Ekev.
00:43:49.000 It's from Deuteronomy.
00:43:50.000 So here are the verses that I would like to go over.
00:43:52.000 Here's Deuteronomy 8, 11 through 19.
00:43:56.000 And it says, Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping his commandments, his ordinances, and his statutes, which I command you this day, lest you eat and be sated, and build good houses, and dwell therein, and your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and gold increase, and all that you have increases, and your heart grows haughty, and you forget the Lord your God, who has brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, who led you through the great and awesome desert, in which there were snakes, and vipers, and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water, who brought water for you out of solid rock,
00:44:22.000 We're good to go.
00:44:52.000 Okay, this is America in a nutshell.
00:44:55.000 This is America in a nutshell.
00:44:56.000 And when people talk about the continuing relevance of the Bible, this is America in a nutshell.
00:44:59.000 So there's a new Pew poll out today that says a historic number of Americans no longer believe in God.
00:45:04.000 A historic number of Americans no longer believe in God.
00:45:06.000 According to Pew Research Center, 49% of people who say they're—half of Americans who have left their church no longer believe in God at all.
00:45:14.000 Another 20% said they don't like organized religion.
00:45:18.000 So, yeah, they're basically saying there's an increase in atheism, essentially.
00:45:23.000 Typically, the reason that people are given for why people become atheists is because they're disappointed in God.
00:45:29.000 That they're very upset.
00:45:31.000 That they're very upset that God has done something they don't like and so they're angry at God and so they become atheists and they say, there is no justice to the universe, I'm done here.
00:45:40.000 But you look at America and the belief in God, Europe and the belief in God, they're declining dramatically.
00:45:44.000 Belief in God is declining dramatically.
00:45:47.000 And you say to yourself, why could that possibly be?
00:45:49.000 We're the richest, most prosperous, freest society in the history of the world.
00:45:52.000 How could it possibly be that less people believe in God, fewer people believe in God because of that?
00:45:59.000 And the answer is right here in the Bible, right?
00:46:00.000 The answer is that essentially we now believe that it is through our own hands.
00:46:05.000 It is through the great grace of government.
00:46:06.000 It's through the communal body.
00:46:09.000 It's through our own capacity.
00:46:11.000 It's through our willingness to work.
00:46:13.000 It's not because of the skill set that God gave us.
00:46:14.000 It's not because of the freedoms that he gave us as part of our divine heritage.
00:46:18.000 It's not because of any of that.
00:46:19.000 It's because human beings are capable of doing great things.
00:46:22.000 Thank you.
00:46:37.000 Thank you.
00:46:59.000 We can build great things.
00:47:01.000 And we can sacrifice other human beings because, after all, other human beings don't have rights from God.
00:47:05.000 God doesn't exist.
00:47:06.000 Other human beings aren't important.
00:47:07.000 Only the most skilled are important.
00:47:09.000 They're the ones who really matter.
00:47:11.000 And we can run roughshod over other people because, after all, we are the powerful ones.
00:47:15.000 We're the powerful ones.
00:47:16.000 When human beings believe they are the powerful ones, that is the road to tyranny.
00:47:20.000 The road to tyranny is paved with the belief that human beings are the powerful ones in the universe as opposed to the God who made them and crafted their rights.
00:47:29.000 Once you believe that, it's not that God is saying, I'm going to punish you.
00:47:32.000 That's the natural consequence.
00:47:33.000 The natural consequence of your action is self-destruction.
00:47:36.000 And we're watching that by Western civilization.
00:47:38.000 We declared ourselves more powerful than God.
00:47:40.000 We said that the rights that God gave us are less important than our ability to do what we want ourselves.
00:47:44.000 And because of that, we are now in the process of turning on our own freedom and ramrodding it down and crushing it beneath our boots in the name of our own power.
00:47:55.000 And that's a very scary place to be.
00:47:58.000 So, you know, the only solution to this really is a little bit of humility.
00:48:02.000 If you're smart, you're smart because God gave you the brains.
00:48:04.000 If you grew up in America, that's because you were lucky enough to be born in the greatest nation of all.
00:48:08.000 And if you are somebody who benefits from the rights that spring from the Judeo-Christian foundation of civilization, then maybe you ought to consider why it is that only Judeo-Christian civilization has ever respected these rights.
00:48:22.000 This isn't to say that you have to believe in God.
00:48:24.000 You don't.
00:48:25.000 You can be a good person and not believe in God.
00:48:27.000 But a society that ditches God is bound in the end to worship man, and a society that worships man is bound in the end for Armageddon.
00:48:34.000 Well, on that light note, we will see you tomorrow, and we will discuss all of the latest political happenings, plus the mailbag, which is why you should subscribe if you're not already doing so at dailywire.com.
00:48:44.000 Check us out right there.
00:48:45.000 I'm Ben Shapiro.
00:48:45.000 This is The Ben Shapiro Show.
