00:00:00.000So, this is the most bizarre story of the day.
00:00:03.000A woman who received the death penalty and actually received her lethal injection, and apparently just put her to sleep, but she didn't die.
00:00:30.000So, in 1995, when Pike was 18, She lured a classmate named Colleen Slemmer to a wooded area near the University of Tennessee's agricultural campus and killed her because she believed that Colleen was trying to steal her boyfriend.
00:00:40.000Apparently, she assaulted Slemmer for 30 minutes with a box cutter and a meat cleaver.
00:00:44.000She carved a pentagram into Slemmer's chest.
00:00:47.000And then afterward, she kept a fragment of her skull as a souvenir.
00:00:54.000In March 96, she was convicted of first degree murder and conspiracy, and the jury gave the death penalty.
00:01:00.000So again, death penalty, the methods have changed.
00:01:02.000This will become relevant in a moment.
00:01:04.000Originally, the state of Tennessee used hanging as their method of capital punishment.
00:01:09.000And then in the 1910s, they used the electric chair.
00:01:12.000They paused capital punishment entirely between 1960 and 2000, and then they switched to lethal injection.
00:01:17.000So while she was on death row, this murderess was convicted of attempted first degree murder for strangling another inmate with a shoe cord at the Tennessee Prison for Women.
00:01:25.000She attempted to escape with a correctional officer in 2012, but was foiled.
00:01:30.000So her execution was suddenly stayed an hour before it was slated to be held.
00:01:38.000Now, the court halted a procedure to re examine her childhood trauma and mental health considerations and certain restrictions placed by the state regarding her access to her Buddhist spiritual advisor.
00:01:51.000Pike said on Monday she felt kinship with Lindsey Clancy and was pleased the accused child murderer received a mistrial for killing her three kids using exercise bans in 2023.
00:02:01.000She says, I was a mentally ill 18 year old girl who committed a crime with two other individuals and I was the only one to receive the sentence.
00:02:06.000There are so many women who don't get the help they need.
00:02:08.000So the Supreme Court voted 6 3 to allow Tennessee to proceed with the execution.
00:02:16.000So officials gave her a dose of pentobarbital that should have killed her, and it failed.
00:02:24.000So apparently she is alive and loudly snoring after the attempted lethal injection.
00:02:31.000I'm sorry, it's something out of a very, very, very dark sitcom.
00:02:35.000The state's execution protocol calls for a secondary set of drug syringes to be administered if the inmate is not deceased after the first set.
00:02:41.000It doesn't say what happens if the subject is alive still after the second set.
00:02:45.000Robin Marr, the executive director of the Death Penalty Information Center, said that this is singular and unparalleled.
00:02:52.000At one point, she raised her head and asked prison officials if her arm was supposed to feel that way.
00:02:56.000It was not clear to what she was referencing.
00:02:59.000So now, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee is pausing all executions this year, calling for a comprehensive third party review of Pike's execution.
00:03:05.000Okay, so first of all, let's just talk about the death penalty briefly as a moral matter.
00:03:09.000The death penalty is entirely merited.
00:03:11.000The death penalty is the proper punishment for people.
00:03:14.000Who do egregious crimes of murder, egregious crimes of rape for a wide variety of reasons, not just deterrence.
00:03:21.000The most obvious case for the death penalty is that people deserve it.
00:03:26.000And the reason that you deserve it is because, again, the way that criminal justice has worked in societies going back legitimately millennia is that if somebody kills a member of your family, you then go and kill a member of their family.
00:03:37.000And the monopoly on legitimate use of force being delegated to the state means that there must be a punishment commensurate with the crime to prevent us from falling into vengeful tribalism.
00:03:47.000That is the basis of the death penalty, and that still holds today.
00:03:50.000Second, there are certain things that are so morally egregious that you deserve to not be breathing the same air as the rest of us.
00:03:55.000It seems to me that murdering a woman and bashing her skull and then keeping a piece of it probably falls into that category.
00:04:04.000With that said, it is kind of incredible that we have come up with methods of execution that apparently are so humane that they don't actually kill the person.
00:04:14.000If you want to save on your wireless, if you want excellent customer service, because goodness knows that's hard to get, you need to switch your team to Pure Talk for as little as $15 a line for talk, text, and data.
00:04:53.000Again, the way most people go and they get their cellular plan is that you Walk into some sort of ATT store or something, and then they offer you a bunch of plans.
00:05:03.000There's a much simpler, easier, and better way.
00:05:05.000Pure Talk will make it happen for you.
00:05:06.000Head over to puretalkbusiness.comslash Shapiro and see how much Pure Talk could save your business today.
00:05:12.000Well, the split between left and right on immigration continues to boggle the mind.
00:05:16.000This is why, for whatever issues you have with the Trump administration, the fact that there is still a left that wishes to just open the borders is kind of astonishing.
00:05:27.000The Department of Homeland Security head Mark Wayne Mullen says, I'm confused.
00:05:31.000Why is securing our borders controversial?
00:05:33.000None of this should be a Republican thing or a Democrat thing.
00:05:36.000Why would protecting the homeland, why would securing our elections be controversial?
00:05:44.000Nothing about that makes sense unless it's just a political talking point.
00:05:48.000What we do at the Department of Homeland Security is not controversial.
00:06:12.000But again, Democrats are stumping for an open border.
00:06:14.000Brad Lander, who again is part of the Zoran Momdani far left squad and he's going to end up in Congress, he says that the path to safety in the United States is inviting strangers in.
00:06:27.000I don't think that's the path to safety.
00:06:33.000Okay, I get why you might think the path to safety is thicker walls and better locks and maybe like guns and bombs, but that's a mirage.
00:06:44.000The path to safety is recognizing your fragility and then inviting your neighbors in, guests in, and strangers in, because that's how we'll build a safe world.
00:06:56.000Like it really is the path we believe in.
00:07:02.000I promise you that if you, on a personal level, invite strangers into your house and you think this is the path to safety, that is really, really, really nuts.
00:07:17.000The Democratic Party has lost their ever loving mind in a wide variety of ways.
00:07:21.000Well, Steve Hilton, who is running a heroic but obviously doomed race in California against Xavier, but I say that with no upset at Steve for running it.
00:07:31.000The chances, of course, that Steve wins in California are slim and none.
00:07:35.000But it's fun to watch him run rings around Xavier Becerra.
00:07:37.000Here he was in a debate with Xavier Becerra, who was the former head of health and human services under Joe Biden, who lost contact with more than 85,000 unaccompanied migrant children.
00:07:46.000Here was Steve Hilton smacking him around over it.
00:07:49.000I cannot believe that you're standing there trying to make these arguments when you were HHS Secretary.
00:07:57.000You were responsible for 479,000 unaccompanied migrant children and for their welfare in camps that you ran.
00:08:07.000You sent them because you dismantled the vetting that should have made sure that they were with a safe, protective family or sponsor.
00:08:16.000You sent thousands of young children directly.
00:08:21.000Into the clutches of child sex and labor traffickers.
00:08:25.000Hundreds of thousands of children that you were responsible for are still missing today.
00:09:32.000And again, Troy Jackson, if they found bodies in his basement, it would not surprise me in any way, shape, or form.
00:09:40.000So, Troy Jackson says that he's upset at the Jews in Maine because those darn Jews won't call what happened in Israel a genocide.
00:09:48.000It's unfortunate that there are people here in Maine that don't like to use that term only because they're Jewish and what that means to them with the Holocaust.
