00:06:47.000 About 90% of House Republicans just voted to pass H.R. 6090, the so-called Anti-Semitism Awareness Act, in response to all of the anti-Israel and Jew hatred protests on American college campuses.
00:07:02.000 If the point of H.R. 6090 was to defund the diversity, equity, inclusion apparatus that have normalized anti-white, anti-Asian, anti-Jewish discrimination at colleges, that'd be great.
00:07:12.000 But it does the opposite.
00:07:14.000 What they just did, what 90% of Republicans just did, is they strengthened DEI.
00:07:22.000 This gives a new mandate to the federal government and their massive apparatus to justify investigating and suing people for supposedly violating vague civil rights laws.
00:07:35.000 It's a step towards imposing unconstitutional European-style hate speech laws onto America.
00:07:41.000 So what is actually in this bill?
00:07:43.000 It finally, because there's some abstractions here, what do you mean by anti-Semitism?
00:07:49.000 It formally provides a definition of anti-Semitism.
00:07:54.000 But this definition doesn't simply include formally discriminating against Jews, which is already illegal and will not be tolerated.
00:08:00.000 No, no, it goes further than that.
00:08:02.000 It doesn't even say calling for violence against Jews.
00:08:07.000 Instead, it adopts a new definition created by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, which I'm sure is a great organization.
00:08:16.000 But why they are pushing this and what they are putting forward is a little strange to me.
00:08:23.000 This so-called working definition of anti-Semitism is very long and it includes a bunch of examples.
00:08:29.000 Guess what?
00:08:31.000 We've actually read this bill.
00:08:33.000 How many lawmakers actually read this before they voted on it?
00:08:36.000 I have a very busy afternoon.
00:08:38.000 You know what I'm going to be doing?
00:08:39.000 I'm going to be calling any lawmaker that will take my call that are always asking to come on our show and saying, did you guys actually read this bill?
00:08:47.000 Did you read the bill that you guys just passed?
00:08:50.000 Or did you read the title of the bill?
00:08:53.000 So some examples are clear-cut that I agree with.
00:08:56.000 They're anti-Semitic and they should be illegal.
00:08:58.000 For example, if you call or aid justifying the killing or harming of Jews in the name of radical ideology, that should be illegal.
00:09:05.000 I agree.
00:09:06.000 If you are calling for the extermination of a people group, no question.
00:09:10.000 But then it gets very shaky.
00:09:13.000 Other examples might be very immoral, such as accusing Jewish citizens of being more loyal to Israel or the alleged priorities of Jews worldwide than the interests of their own nations.
00:09:23.000 Hold on a second.
00:09:23.000 That's now illegal to say on campus?

00:09:25.000 You are no longer allowed to say based on this bill, if it becomes law, that Jews might have more loyalty to Israel than to America.
00:09:36.000 Okay, I don't think I would ever make that argument, but that is absolutely constitutionally protected speech.
00:09:43.000 Or this one quote, quote, claiming that the existence of the state of Israel is a racist endeavor.
00:09:50.000 Okay, I'm on the other side of that.
00:09:51.000 I argue that it's not a racist endeavor, but thoughtful people have come to a different conclusion on that.
00:09:58.000 I think they're totally wrong, but they should be allowed to say that.
00:10:02.000 So now if a professor on a campus writes an article that says that Israel is a racist endeavor, we're going to say that's illegal.
00:10:12.000 Or this one, drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.
00:10:18.000 Again, I think it's silly to do that, but now it's illegal. 0.98

00:10:25.000 But if you define this as anti-Semitism under federal civil rights law, you're basically making it illegal for Americans to criticize a foreign government. 0.70

00:11:09.000 But the text of the Bible in John 8, in the first letter of 1 Thessalonians, there are mentions that very well could be now illegal under federal law.

00:18:56.000 I just gave you four passages in the Bible that say that.
00:19:00.000 Therefore, did they just make the Holy Scriptures illegal on campus?

00:19:08.000 I think we thoroughly, I should say, covered how this very well might outlaw parts of the Bible and saying it, not just on campus, by the way.
00:19:18.000 This bill, if it becomes law, gives the Department of Justice and the civil rights leviathan new weaponry to go after the faithful. 0.98

00:21:23.000 And while all of that is disappearing and is vanishing, Republicans decide to put an unprecedented historic attack on the First Amendment.
00:21:33.000 And let me just say, so many of these Republicans are quick to go on cable TV and say, well, free speech and free speech and free speech.

00:25:01.000 This bill has broad bipartisan support and will begin the process of cracking down on the anti-Semitism that we've seen run rampant on college campuses all across America.

00:25:15.000 Now we got to get it through the Senate and signed into law.

00:25:22.000 We have plenty of laws, Mr. Lawler.
00:25:25.000 Enforce the ones already on the books.
00:25:29.000 In fact, the problem is not that you need a new bill that expands the civil rights DEI monster that we've seen that goes after different groups unnecessarily.
00:25:41.000 No, but instead, why don't you enforce the laws on the books?

00:25:53.000 Every day I grieve how this document, the United States Constitution, the greatest political document ever written, is being destroyed.

00:26:15.000 The right of the people to secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures shall not be violated.

00:26:26.000 No warrants, spy on all of your communications, can spy on everything.
00:26:29.000 The First Amendment: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press or the right of the people to peaceably assemble.
00:26:39.000 Look, I hate to break it to House Republicans.
00:26:42.000 I don't like the Students for Justice of Palestine.
00:26:44.000 I don't like these Palestinian protests.
00:26:47.000 But when they remain peaceful, they are constitutionally protected.
00:26:51.000 Those are protected by the First Amendment, and you should want them to be protected.
00:26:57.000 But swooping in with mass bipartisan support and save me the lecture on bipartisan support.
00:27:03.000 When something is rapidly supported by the uniparty, I think it's even worse of an idea. 1.00
00:27:11.000 And people are fussing saying, oh, no, it doesn't make the Bible illegal, which again, by the word of the law, I think I made a rather crisp argument that it does.

00:27:22.000 The bill requires the Department of Education to now use this definition with these examples when how it decides to enforce Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which prohibits forms of racial and religious discrimination.
00:27:36.000 So a school commits any of the above offenses or tolerates students or faculty who do, the Department of Education is now being told they have to sue them for violating civil rights law the same way it currently sues for race and sex discrimination.
00:27:49.000 And while they aren't explicitly named, it's reasonable to imagine this bill encourages or requires all other civil rights bureaucracies to act the same way.
00:27:58.000 And we have the roll call of all the people who voted for this.
00:28:01.000 And it is overwhelming.
00:28:04.000 The Republicans, and I'm going to be working the phones this afternoon calling a lot of these people, saying, hey, just a quick question.
00:28:11.000 Did you read the bill?
00:28:13.000 Like, did you actually look up what the definition was cited in there?
00:28:18.000 Did you go through?
00:28:20.000 I mean, okay, let's just put the Bible part aside, which I think I've done thoroughly. 0.91

00:28:25.000 You're not allowed to say that Jews are more loyal to Israel or allege priorities of Jews worldwide than the interests of their own nations.
00:28:31.000 You're not allowed to say that.
00:28:32.000 Well, what if there's an instance where that's true?
00:28:35.000 You're not allowed to say that?
00:28:38.000 Again, the Jews in my life, they don't believe that.
00:28:41.000 They're Jewish patriots.

00:28:49.000 So we're now policing fact patterns.

00:29:07.000 If I have ate an event on a college campus and I talk to students for an hour, two hours, three hours, and somebody comes up and says that Israel is racist, the Department of Education could sue that student?
00:29:22.000 No, I think that's totally wrong.
00:29:24.000 I think that's reprehensible.
00:29:27.000 If a student says and comes up and draws comparison of Israeli policy to that of the Nazis, that is now illegal.
00:29:36.000 Do you know how you handle that, Mr. Lawler, and to the most 90% of the Republicans that voted for this?
00:29:43.000 You don't handle that by passing a bill.
00:29:46.000 You handle that by having the courage to go on these campuses, look them in the eye, debate them, film it, and publicize the dialogue.
00:29:56.000 That's what we have done successfully at Turning Point USA.
00:30:00.000 We have successfully gone into the streets and had the tough conversations.
00:30:04.000 And guess what?
00:30:05.000 We're winning in that regard.
00:30:08.000 We have 50 million social media views on a single platform, TikTok a week.

00:30:18.000 And I'm going to close this talking about the moral right of free speech more broadly, something the Republicans obviously don't believe in.

00:30:27.000 Oh, we have all these hearings about campus free speech.
00:30:29.000 And then they come in and parachute saying, well, unless you want to say that Israel is racist, which I don't believe, but people should say, then we don't believe in that.

00:30:42.000 They say, oh, well, it's not going to pass the Senate. 0.97

00:31:23.000 I could tell you there is a nonstop campaign to stop me from speaking on these campuses.
00:31:27.000 Thankfully, we have the First Amendment.

00:31:31.000 So you have a choice.
00:31:33.000 You can shut up opinions you don't like, or you can keep the trajectory in the tradition of speech that actually helps us in the long end.

00:31:45.000 Do we believe that we can back them up with facts and dialogue, reason?

00:31:51.000 Here's a conversation I had with a gentleman who did not think very highly of Israel.

00:32:11.000 I defend Israel in this clip.
00:32:15.000 I don't think this young man should be investigated by the Department of Education for having a contrarian view.
00:32:23.000 He doesn't say any of the buzzwords there, but what if he says something like, you know, I think Israel is racist? 0.96

00:32:31.000 So instead of stifling and suffocating their speech, let's have a conversation.

00:34:22.000 And I think that's worth defending.
00:34:24.000 And I'm afraid that if it was under Muslim control, there is no such guarantees always that Western Christians are gained access to those holy sites.

00:34:36.000 I've actually never heard it stated like this.
00:34:38.000 This is a really well thought out answer.
00:34:39.000 And 1,256 people liked that in one hour as far as they agree with that sentiment.

00:34:51.000 Now, what am I getting at here?
00:34:54.000 That dialogue is how we win people over.
00:34:57.000 Not by top-down brute force, stifling discussion.
00:35:02.000 If someone were to come up to me at one of these events and say the reprehensible anti-Jewish stuff, I would call them out and we would build consensus.
00:35:14.000 Do you know that it actually makes these evil and awful ideas, it makes them more popular the more you censor them?
00:35:25.000 It makes them more popular because then people say, well, if I'm not, if I can't say it, I'm going to try to say it.
00:35:29.000 You should be able to think and speak freely in this country.
00:35:35.000 Even if you are offending a group.
00:35:37.000 And by the way, I remember back when the ACLU, the American Civil Liberties Union, defended the right of neo-Nazis to march in downtown Skokie, Illinois, along where a lot of Holocaust survivors lived.
00:35:52.000 But there is a new state of affairs in Washington, D.C., where it's not about freedom of speech.
00:35:59.000 It's not about dialogue.
00:36:01.000 It's about stifling.
00:36:03.000 It's about using power to potentially prevent the word of God from being read.
