00:00:00.000 Thank you for listening to this Podcast 1 production.
00:00:02.000 Now available on Apple Podcasts, Podcast 1, Spotify, and anywhere else you get your podcasts.
00:00:08.000 Hey, everybody.
00:00:08.000 We are all repulsed by the activist fake news media.
00:00:12.000 What they do to our country is so sinister and malevolent.
00:00:17.000 I mean, if you look at some of the press coverage that has been happening in the last couple months, we went from President Trump wasn't doing enough to try to stop the virus, something that no president has ever been tasked with trying to stop, to stop a viral infection, to, if we go all the way back to the impeachment coverage, how the press was propagandizing us about how President Trump committed a crime that he did not commit.
00:00:46.000 If you do not trust the media, you are going to love this conversation today.
00:00:49.000 It was actually an evergreen conversation that was back in the archives of the Charlie Kirk Show.
00:00:54.000 We never aired it.
00:00:55.000 It was a conversation I had with my dear friend Brent Bozell.
00:00:58.000 Brent Bozel runs the Media Research Center, MRC.org, I believe is their website.
00:01:04.000 And we'll post it in the show description.
00:01:06.000 Brent is a dear friend and a true American patriot.
00:01:09.000 We talked about the fake news media and their mistreatment of President Trump.
00:01:13.000 You guys are really going to enjoy this episode of how did the media get this way?
00:01:17.000 Why are they so backwards?
00:01:20.000 And are they more activists than journalists?
00:01:22.000 And we already know the answer to that question.
00:01:24.000 So I encourage you to email me your questions, freedom at charliekirk.com, freedom at charliekirk.com.
00:01:29.000 Check out Turning PointUSA.
00:01:31.000 Go to tpusa.com, tpusa.com.
00:01:33.000 Listen to our sister episode, which is our ask me anything episode, AMA episode.
00:01:38.000 And we have a packed schedule of first-class interviews.
00:01:42.000 We have Senator Ted Cruz coming up later this week, other massive guests.
00:01:46.000 We have lots of thoughts that I want to share with you, but you guys are going to love this episode about how and why the media deceives us, how you're able to spot that disinformation, and how the propaganda campaign is ruining the fabric of our country.
00:02:00.000 Buckle up, everybody.
00:02:02.000 Here we go.
00:02:03.000 Charlie, what you've done is incredible here.
00:02:05.000 Maybe Charlie Kirk is on the college campus.
00:02:07.000 I want you to know we are lucky to have Charlie Kirk.
00:02:10.000 Charlie Kirk's running the White House, folks.
00:02:13.000 I want to thank Charlie.
00:02:14.000 He's an incredible guy.
00:02:15.000 His spirit, his love of this country, he's done an amazing job building one of the most powerful youth organizations ever created, Turning Point USA.
00:02:24.000 We will not embrace the ideas that have destroyed countries, destroyed lives, and we are going to fight for freedom on campuses across the country.
00:02:33.000 That's why we are here.
00:02:35.000 Everybody, welcome to the Charlie Kirk Show.
00:02:37.000 I'm here with my friend Brent Bozell.
00:02:38.000 How are you, sir?
00:02:39.000 Good, who's the founder and CEO of Media Research Center, which is one of the most phenomenal organizations out there that is exposing left-wing bias, fake news, as the president calls it.
00:02:51.000 Brent, welcome to the show.
00:02:52.000 Thank you for having me.
00:02:53.000 Of course.
00:02:53.000 So I've never seen the media this bad, and I'm only 26.
00:02:58.000 They are a propaganda machine for all things on the American left and the Democrat Party.
00:03:04.000 You've been doing this for quite some time.
00:03:07.000 Has it ever been as bad as it is today?
00:03:09.000 You know, I'll answer it this way.
00:03:11.000 About three or four years ago, I got a letter from one of our supporters who said, Brent, in the last four years, I've given you a million dollars.
00:03:19.000 And I'm reading a fun appeal letter from you that says the media are more liberal than ever before.
00:03:24.000 He said, how well is my investment in you working?
00:03:27.000 And it was a very good point he was making.
00:03:30.000 But my answer was, it doesn't matter how liberal the media are.
00:03:34.000 What matters is whether or not they're believed.
00:03:37.000 They could be Marxists, but if they're not believed, they're not going to have an impact.
00:03:40.000 Now, but, but, but three years ago, I couldn't predict, couldn't have predicted where we are today.
00:03:49.000 This is no longer a news media that we're talking about.
00:03:53.000 This is a jihad.
00:03:54.000 This is the radical left that is using the power of journalism in an attempt to destroy not just the president, but the conservative movement.
00:04:07.000 That's exactly right.
00:04:08.000 You know, somebody, I was debating somebody the other night, and they were going on and on and on about how awful Trump was.
00:04:12.000 And I said, no, no, stop.
00:04:13.000 Stop for a second.
00:04:14.000 Stop just for a second.
00:04:16.000 Tell me this.
00:04:17.000 The day Trump leaves office, let's say if he's defeated next year or if he retires in 2024 or whatever the year is, how are you going to behave?
00:04:28.000 How is the left going to behave?
00:04:30.000 Is the left going to say, oh, now kumbaya, now we're going to get along just cheerful.
00:04:34.000 Now everything's great.
00:04:35.000 God love conservatives.
00:04:36.000 Oh, yeah.
00:04:37.000 We love the NRA now.
00:04:38.000 NRA, great.
00:04:40.000 Pro-life, terrific.
00:04:42.000 Exactly.
00:04:42.000 Media Research Center.
00:04:44.000 You guys can move into the West.
00:04:45.000 Free Enterprise.
00:04:46.000 Love you.
00:04:48.000 No, you know, it's going to be, I think it's going to be worse.
00:04:50.000 That's a terrific point.
00:04:51.000 It's going to be scorched earth against those who supported Donald Trump.
00:04:57.000 So to your question, have we ever seen anything like it?
00:04:59.000 No, nothing like it at all.
00:05:01.000 This isn't a news media anymore.
00:05:03.000 Look, there are two kinds of biases that we talk about.
00:05:06.000 One is the bias by commission, where you attempt to spin a story.
00:05:11.000 The other one is by omission, where you just don't report a story.
00:05:14.000 You're seeing both of them, and you're seeing them in a way that was unthinkable two years ago.
00:05:21.000 When the president is presiding over the greatest expansion of the economy, he says ever, close to ever, at the very least.
00:05:32.000 In our memory.
00:05:33.000 Yeah, when you see the stock.
00:05:35.000 I told the vice president two nights ago, isn't this interesting?
00:05:38.000 The president was just impeached and the market went up 150 points.
00:05:42.000 And it went up another 130 yesterday.
00:05:44.000 I mean, when you have that kind of a world and yet the media won't report it, they won't say anything good about this president, all the successes he's had.
00:05:57.000 When he says fake media, I used to think, that's a little bit, no, fake news is a little bit rough.
00:06:02.000 This whole Russia collusion thing was one big exercise in fake news.
00:06:07.000 He was absolutely right.
00:06:08.000 No, they're out to destroy this man, and they're going to use this thing called news media.
00:06:13.000 There's nothing that is news here, and where media are concerned, they're a disgrace.
00:06:17.000 And they're propagandists through and through.
00:06:20.000 But you make a great point.
00:06:22.000 They want to destroy the conservative infrastructure.
00:06:24.000 They don't want to just destroy him.
00:06:26.000 They want to destroy the donors.
00:06:28.000 They want to destroy the activists.
00:06:29.000 They want to destroy the organizations that are supporting him and will be there post-Trump.
00:06:35.000 Because they hate what we stand for and they see us as a hindrance towards what they want to accomplish.
00:06:39.000 You know, more and more, I'm seeing them seeing the world this way.
00:06:43.000 They look at the European model and then they look at the American model.
00:06:47.000 In the European model, you put virtue over freedom.
00:06:52.000 In the American one, it's freedom over virtue.
00:06:55.000 They look at the European one and they like it because they like defining virtue their way.
00:07:01.000 They want to be the moral referees.
00:07:02.000 Yes.
00:07:03.000 Virtue is a world where government cares for the people and they like that.
00:07:10.000 And therefore, when freedom is second, the Constitution now takes second place to it, which is why, Charlie, they don't care about the Second Amendment.
00:07:21.000 They think it's a virtuous thing to take away your guns.
00:07:25.000 This is why they don't believe in the First Amendment.
00:07:27.000 They believe it's a virtuous thing to censor you.
00:07:30.000 Now, you've seen it.
00:07:31.000 You go on college campuses, you see what they're trying to do.
00:07:34.000 When you go on television, you see what they're trying to do.
00:07:37.000 Social media, they're not actively.
00:07:40.000 I was speaking to the president's son a couple of weeks ago, and he said, they're actively censoring us now.
00:07:45.000 They're going to be censoring the president.
00:07:47.000 This is a good thing.
00:07:48.000 They want to tear America down.
00:07:50.000 They also value power over freedom.
00:07:53.000 Everything the left tries to do is in a pursuit of power.
00:07:55.000 Yeah.
00:07:56.000 And so the president has been under relentless assault, and everyone in the conservative movement understands the stakes of this.
00:08:04.000 I think that the movement's more united than ever before.
00:08:06.000 The president has done a remarkable job implementing conservative policy, Gorsuch Kavanaugh, the judges.
00:08:12.000 I also think he's, as Newt Gingrich says, the most effective anti-leftist president I think we've ever seen.
00:08:18.000 Well, I tell you why, Charlie.
00:08:21.000 Ronald Reagan took the conservative movement to great places while destroying the Soviet Union.
00:08:28.000 The greatest president ever, I think.
00:08:30.000 But Ronald Reagan was always moving the ball forward, forward, forward.
00:08:36.000 Compromising when he had to, but that was just to rest and pick up the ball and move forward some more.
00:08:42.000 When he left, starting with Bush 41 and then going on to Bush 43, but the entire Republican infrastructure was one of compromise moving backwards, backwards.
00:08:53.000 It was the Rockefeller wing of the Republican Party, George Romney and the Rockefellers.
00:08:58.000 But the attitude was that if we give in as little as possible, then that's a victory.
00:09:05.000 It was always a pyrrhic victory because it's a retreat.
00:09:08.000 So Republicans have been, and conservatives, frankly, have been retreating since 1988, up until Donald J. Trump showed up.
00:09:19.000 He said, we're going forward again.
00:09:22.000 And he declared war on the institutions, beginning with the media.
00:09:26.000 He understood that the media were enemy number one.
00:09:29.000 You know, there are three reasons why the media can't stand him.
00:09:32.000 One, they created him.
00:09:35.000 That's such a good point.
00:09:37.000 He's a phenomenon of their making.
00:09:38.000 He's their Frankenstein.
00:09:40.000 I don't know.
00:09:41.000 That's the first one.
00:09:42.000 And they really do feel guilty about that.
00:09:44.000 Secondly, he stopped the leftist march that was going to happen.
00:09:52.000 That they thought was inevitable.
00:09:53.000 Oh, yeah. 1.00
00:09:54.000 The first woman ever was going to follow the first black ever and institutionalize socialism. 1.00
00:10:00.000 Instead of Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, you would have had Elizabeth Warren. 1.00
00:10:03.000 Oh, think about it.
00:10:05.000 Think about it.
00:10:06.000 Gorsuch Kavanaugh versus the two.
00:10:09.000 You would have a 35-year-old Sotomayor and a 32-year-old Kagan.
00:10:14.000 Every judicial decision from the high court would go against freedom.
00:10:20.000 Everyone.
00:10:21.000 And so Janice, gone, everything.
00:10:24.000 And looking forward.
00:10:26.000 There'd be no hope for anything.
00:10:30.000 If there's any, is there anything that needs to be adjudicated between the executive and the legislative?
00:10:34.000 They would want.
00:10:35.000 That's right. 0.99
00:10:36.000 They would want the courts to take care of it because it's going to go their way.
00:10:40.000 That's how activist they were.
00:10:42.000 Okay, so Trump put an end to that.
00:10:44.000 But the third thing was, before they could declare war on him, he declared war on them.
00:10:49.000 He started this fight, which I love.
00:10:51.000 He just had to do it.
00:10:52.000 From his opening statement, he goes down that escalator, and the media, they thought this was going to be a joke.
00:10:58.000 And then they said, wait a second, why is he talking about us?
00:11:00.000 I got a feeling.
00:11:01.000 I just have this vision that he's coming down the escalator and he says, screw you, CNN.
00:11:06.000 And so it begins.
00:11:08.000 And he has been at war with them ever since.
00:11:12.000 And this is why they despise him so much, because he had the guts.
00:11:18.000 He had the guts for the first time to say, you're the enemy.
00:11:22.000 You're radical left-wingers, and you're part of the problem.
00:11:25.000 And I'm coming after you too.
00:11:26.000 And he has been moving the ball forward, forward, forward.
00:11:29.000 My one piece of advice to young people is this.
00:11:32.000 If there's one takeaway from Donald Trump, it is moving forward, being on offense.
00:11:39.000 You compromise when you've gone as far as you can.
00:11:43.000 You've moved the ball forward, and you're ready to go forward again as soon as you get some reinforcements.
00:11:48.000 You keep moving forward, forward, forward.
00:11:50.000 This president, look at his negotiations worldwide.
00:11:52.000 He doesn't stop.
00:11:53.000 He doesn't stop.
00:11:54.000 Look what he's done.
00:11:55.000 Everybody said, oh, you're going to destroy America with these trade negotiations.
00:11:59.000 Look what he won victory after another.
00:12:01.000 And by the way, the whole world is going to, they're going to benefit from this.
00:12:06.000 And he's been relentless.
00:12:07.000 Yeah, yeah.
00:12:08.000 And so, Brent, not to put you on the spot, I only do this because I think our listeners would enjoy this.
00:12:12.000 You were not a Trump supporter originally.
00:12:14.000 I was a cruise guy.
00:12:17.000 And I know you were a cruise guy.
00:12:19.000 I was a cruise guy at the start, yeah.
00:12:21.000 And he's convinced you of the policies and the fruit that he's been, the fruit that essentially this tree has been able to produce.
00:12:27.000 Oh, yeah.
00:12:27.000 I wrote this in my book.
00:12:28.000 That's what I want me to talk about.
00:12:30.000 Yeah, oh, yeah.
00:12:30.000 I mean, when I met with him, the first time I met him, I was prepared not to like him.
00:12:37.000 I didn't want to like him because I was a cruise supporter.
00:12:41.000 But this is before he announced, and he asked me to come up and meet with him and to talk about the race.
00:12:48.000 And I was smitten by the guy.
00:12:50.000 I spent an hour with him.
00:12:52.000 He was the opposite of everything I thought he was going to be.
00:12:56.000 He was quiet.
00:12:57.000 He was solicitous.
00:12:58.000 He was intelligent, asking probing questions, very, very confident.
00:13:04.000 But the Brackadocio wasn't there.
00:13:07.000 I left that place saying, this guy's going places.
00:13:10.000 This guy is going places.
00:13:11.000 I urged him to run.
00:13:12.000 He asked me if I thought he should run.
00:13:16.000 And I said, Mr. Trump, you're never going to win.
00:13:19.000 I love how everybody says, oh, I knew he was going to win.
00:13:22.000 I told him he wasn't going to win.
00:13:24.000 But I told him he should run.
00:13:26.000 One, I thought he should get the skeletons out because everybody has skeletons.
00:13:30.000 Just get him out.
00:13:31.000 The second one is he had to scratch the itch.
00:13:33.000 He'd been talking about this for many years.
00:13:35.000 He had to do it.
00:13:37.000 And thirdly, if he didn't win, I would hope that my president Cruz would then bring him on to have a Trump commission to fire everybody in Washington.
00:13:48.000 Wouldn't you love it?
00:13:49.000 You know, you're fired, you're fired, you're fired 500,000 times.
00:13:52.000 That was my wish at the time.
00:13:54.000 But look, you know, I was one of so many conservatives who did question his conservative credentials.
00:14:00.000 I had every right to.
00:14:01.000 He had a career supporting liberal positions and Democrats and Planned Parenthood and Hillary Clinton.
00:14:08.000 So I had a right, as many people did, to question it.
00:14:11.000 Well, look, what's happened?
00:14:12.000 This man, something happened.
00:14:14.000 I don't know what happened.
00:14:16.000 All I know is that he has been an unrelenting champion for conservatives, meaning conservatives now need to be unrelenting supporters of the president.
00:14:29.000 And the movement is more unified than ever before going into this 2020 election.
00:14:33.000 Impeach, impeach, impeach.
00:14:34.000 I love it.
00:14:35.000 I love it.
00:14:35.000 There's no talk about that.
00:14:38.000 Think about the politics of perception here.
00:14:41.000 Okay, so he's been impeached for obstruction of Congress.
00:14:47.000 If I had been running his administration, I would have said, Mr. President, do you want to get re-elected?
00:14:56.000 Get impeached for obstructing Congress.
00:15:00.000 Because, you know, America hates Congress.
00:15:03.000 I mean, they're supporters in single digits.
00:15:06.000 You're obstructing that.
00:15:08.000 Best point.
00:15:09.000 You're obstructing the most hated institution.
00:15:12.000 I mean, they're mosquitoes on the windshield of life.
00:15:15.000 Just get rid of them.
00:15:16.000 Get them out of the country.
00:15:17.000 Of course you're obstructing Congress.
00:15:18.000 I would obstruct Congress.
00:15:20.000 I mean, the worst thing you can do is he worked with Congress.
00:15:25.000 This is what the public wants to see done.
00:15:29.000 They want him to see.
00:15:29.000 That's why they elected him.
00:15:31.000 That's a point.
00:15:32.000 This is why the market.
00:15:33.000 They elected him to obstruct.
00:15:35.000 This is why the market went up 150 points the day that he was impeached.
00:15:40.000 The public is saying, go, Trump, go.
00:15:43.000 And he.
00:15:45.000 Excuse me.
00:15:46.000 One thing.
00:15:47.000 The Democrats don't know what the hell to do now.
00:15:47.000 Go ahead.
00:15:49.000 They don't know what to do with this impeachment.
00:15:51.000 Well, what's so funny is they thought it was going to be a funeral.
00:15:53.000 And that remember Bill Clinton during his impeachment.
00:15:56.000 We found this clip on the Charlie Kirk show.
00:15:57.000 We found the actual tape of it where his chef said that Bill Clinton would lock himself in the room and just order cake.
00:16:03.000 Do you remember?
00:16:04.000 You probably remember this.
00:16:05.000 You would just order endless streams of cake.
00:16:07.000 I remember I saw it in a documentary like eight years ago, and our amazing team dug it up.
00:16:11.000 But the chef is like, yeah, President Clinton used to always call and ask for big things of cake and come back, the whole thing would be eaten.
00:16:18.000 He's acting so somber in this.
00:16:20.000 And Trump's doing rallies with thousands of people.
00:16:23.000 You know, Rush Rush Rush Limbaugh once when he had his TV show, one of the best things he ever did was capture this video of Bill Clinton at Ron Brown's funeral, where Ron Brown was his cabinet member was killed or killed overseas.
00:16:42.000 And it was a bad thing.
00:16:43.000 But at the funeral, the video catches Clinton walking at the service outside.
00:16:50.000 He's laughing and he's just chuckling and talking to somebody and having a great old time at this funeral.
00:16:57.000 Then somebody nudges him and points to the camera and he looks to the camera and just like you wouldn't believe it.
00:17:03.000 He just, in a second, he has a tear coming out of his eye and he's just rubbing it.
00:17:08.000 And it's just like, how did you do this?
00:17:11.000 I mean, I mean, I mean, no actor could do it as well as you do it.
00:17:14.000 No, this system, but all of them wearing black for the love of God.
00:17:18.000 You know, they're wearing black today.
00:17:21.000 They're wearing black today. 0.77
00:17:22.000 They don't know what to do with this damn impeachment.
00:17:26.000 Well, they're holding it and they know.
00:17:28.000 They know that this is a keg of dynamite against us.
00:17:31.000 What I love about this is Pelosi's like, well, if you don't succumb to our demands, we won't send this to you.
00:17:36.000 And McConnell, again, I've had my, you and I both criticize McConnell over the years.
00:17:40.000 I think he's gotten better.
00:17:41.000 He says, okay, wait, so we don't succumb to your demands, so he's not impeached.
00:17:46.000 You have great negotiating power, Nancy.
00:17:49.000 I thought McConnell's speech was just extraordinary.
00:17:53.000 No, it was very good.
00:17:54.000 It was extraordinary.
00:17:55.000 I mean, he took this and he showed the American people exactly what is the color of the skin of the far left.
00:18:07.000 The public knows more than ever just how dishonest and dishonorable the far left has become.
00:18:16.000 I hope that this is a message to liberals, not the leftists, but the liberals, you know, to the Joe Lieberman wing of the Democratic Party.
00:18:24.000 Alan Dershowitz wing.
00:18:26.000 Yeah, I mean, they were, you know, Alan Dershowitz, who says, you know, very, very strongly, the conservatives aren't my enemy, leftists are.
00:18:32.000 Yes, sir.
00:18:33.000 He came from the liberal wing that you debated and you debated fiercely, fiercely.
00:18:38.000 And you might have nothing in common except they were honorable people and you could debate them out.
00:18:45.000 You cannot debate this radical left at all because they're not honest.
00:18:50.000 And it comes from the university is where it comes from.
00:18:52.000 This sort of lack of dialogue.
00:18:55.000 Only one way to look at things.
00:18:56.000 If you disagree, we must disassemble you altogether.
00:18:59.000 And that's what we're fighting at Turning Point every single day.
00:19:02.000 So people ask, so why are the media so left-wing?
00:19:07.000 The answer is because the radical left gravitates to three institutions: the news media, the entertainment media, and academia.
00:19:16.000 Because they see in those three institutions the ability to change minds and to use the institutions to change minds.
00:19:25.000 You know, you can't do that when you're working at IBM.
00:19:28.000 You're not changing minds when you're working at Exxon, but you are when you're teaching at Stanford.
00:19:34.000 You are when you're on NBC News.
00:19:36.000 You are when you're a rock start at a concert.
00:19:38.000 And that's how they project it.
00:19:41.000 But they all work in tandem.
00:19:44.000 Look at the average person in the news media today has no idea about free enterprise.
00:19:50.000 They've never held a job.
00:19:53.000 They've never hired a person.
00:19:56.000 They've never run a company.
00:19:58.000 They went from college or university to J school to journalism.
00:20:04.000 And so they don't know the real world.
00:20:05.000 We almost have it as a throwaway line, you know, that they're in Manhattan and Washington and Beverly Hills and they need to go over, fly over country and visit America.
00:20:15.000 No, no, no, no.
00:20:16.000 That's very, very true.
00:20:18.000 They don't understand the virtues of middle America.
00:20:23.000 They don't understand.
00:20:24.000 And even worse than that, it's almost like they have built-in contempt for them, too.
00:20:28.000 What do you think about the rallies you put on?
00:20:31.000 What do you think about you?
00:20:33.000 What do you think they see in Ben Shapiro?
00:20:36.000 It is contempt, but something else.
00:20:38.000 It's fear.
00:20:39.000 It's fear.
00:20:40.000 Because they believe they should have the power to step on you like a bug.
00:20:48.000 And in fact, what you have started is getting bigger and bigger and bigger.
00:20:54.000 Yes.
00:20:54.000 And it's going to continue getting bigger.
00:20:56.000 And they understand it.
00:20:58.000 They see the threat.
00:20:59.000 This is why it's existential.
00:21:01.000 This is why this is a fight to the death right now.
00:21:03.000 And this is going to go past Donald Trump.
00:21:05.000 Conservatives have to understand what the stakes are.
00:21:09.000 The stakes are everything.
00:21:10.000 In closing, because you only got two minutes and then you got to hit the stage.
00:21:13.000 You think Donald Trump gets re-elected?
00:21:15.000 Yeah.
00:21:16.000 I have thought for the longest time that this was going to be flip a coin.
00:21:22.000 But I'm seeing the radical left that cannot stop itself because it is being run by people who just aren't very realistic about life.
00:21:34.000 And nothing that Congress does is acceptable to them.
00:21:40.000 And so they push them, they push them.
00:21:41.000 And at the end of the day, you're not going to have, whether it's Elizabeth Warren or whoever it might be, is not going to be able to moderate.
00:21:49.000 So I think if the president does things correctly and the president himself doesn't go off the rails, if he runs this thing correctly, I think he could destroy the other side.
00:22:00.000 I think it could be 84 or 72 all over again.
00:22:03.000 It could be.
00:22:03.000 Friend, thank you so much.
