The Critical Compass Podcast - Mitch Sylvestre's FULL SPEECH ｜ APP Independence Rally Aug 29, 2026

00:00:00.000 All right, so let's take a second to think about what we heard this afternoon.

00:00:14.560 Leighton Gray talked to us about Indigenous Albertans, about a future that has to include

00:00:20.720 everybody who calls this place home. Paul Owen stood up there and told us the Bible

00:00:27.360 Bill C9 means for the people of faith, for churches,

00:00:31.320 for congregations, for the freedom to say

00:00:33.800 what you believe out loud.

00:00:37.000 Can you imagine here in Alberta?

00:00:40.160 John Buckley talked about Canadians who were injured

00:00:43.720 and then ignored, about an inquiry

00:00:46.640 that I was finally going to let them speak.

00:00:49.880 Now I wrote this about Jeff before I heard him.

00:00:52.500 So Jeff spoke about a constitution

00:00:55.180 about Alberta making its own rules.

00:00:58.680 How about that? 0.95

00:01:00.520 Alberta's specific rules will allow freedom 1.00

00:01:04.060 and prosperity, about time.

00:01:08.800 And then some of your neighbors stood up on these steps

00:01:11.560 and read you their own letters.

00:01:13.260 And you know what?

00:01:14.700 I wanna welcome the kids to the movement.

00:01:20.280 How awesome were they?

00:01:22.380 Their words, their own words about their own lives and about their own concerns, and about

00:01:32.200 the fact that I know that we have a lot of kids supporting Alberta independence because

00:01:38.900 they're the ones that are going to hurt.

00:01:42.940 Four different subjects, one conversation.

00:01:48.020 Because every one of them comes back to the same question.

00:01:52.340 Who decides the future of this province? 0.95

00:01:56.000 Do the people who live here have a say in it?

00:02:01.020 What I see clearly and what I want back is the Alberta that I grew up in.

00:02:07.840 Limitless opportunity.

00:02:09.900 A place where government would never dare to openly steal from, intimidate, censor, lie, or consciously impoverish or hurt its own people.

00:02:24.480 A place where the goal was to develop and prosper and grow for everybody's benefit.

00:02:31.540 And there's only one way back to that.

00:02:33.100 You have to decide. You have to decide to commit to making change or decide that you will forever accept being under the thumb of Ottawa.

00:02:47.100 It's that simple.

00:02:49.940 This is about winning.

00:02:53.000 Everything we do, everything that I do from now on and from day one is to win.

00:03:01.640 Period.

00:03:03.100 So I'm going to show up until the very end, and I need you to do the same thing.

00:03:14.800 I need you to show up and bring people.

00:03:18.300 We need more people.

00:03:21.340 And let me be clear.

00:03:22.780 I've been saying this for four years.

00:03:25.020 No politician is going to save you.

00:03:28.680 You're going to have to do it yourself with all of us helping.

00:03:33.100 this works because of numbers it's very simple because of ordinary people who decide that they're

00:03:41.160 not going to sit this one out that's the entire strategy and that's the only one that has ever

00:03:51.120 worked anywhere we need to have more votes than them that's it we have to stop the cheat and we

00:04:01.620 have to make it too big to rig because they're going to cheat. There's no question. There's

00:04:07.680 way too much at stake. We're watching them do it in a lifetime everywhere else. Now I'd be

00:04:13.960 straight with you. So here it is. This is crunch time for us. We're getting a vote and we need to

00:04:23.940 this vote can we win of course we know it they know it we've built the largest grassroots movement

00:04:34.420 in the history of alberta and that's all of us

00:04:42.180 we have hundreds of thousands of people in our database and i am not kidding so here's

00:04:50.900 what i'm asking you to do and i want to be very specific about it we need you to get active and

00:04:56.420 we need you to get and stay engaged till this is done our apathy has got us here i'm no more i'm

00:05:07.940 just as guilty as anybody in the room three years ago i didn't know left from right

00:05:12.740 the system that we're going to replace is pulling out all the stops all the disruption all the

00:05:24.180 games and manipulation it can muster all of the controlled opposition that they can throw at us

00:05:33.860 they have money they have power media but what they need to win is more votes than us

00:05:40.580 so we can control that we're committed intelligent capable driven people people who have a vision for

00:05:51.140 a better future when i was presenting to the premier with a copy of the value of freedom she

00:05:57.300 asked not that she was looking for my advice i'm sure she asked when would i call for a referendum

00:06:04.180 vote if i was able to do that and my response was when i knew i could win because again

00:06:13.220 winning is what this is all about so in order to win again we need more votes than them and

00:06:19.860 we have to make sure that and we can do that by doing the work we need to know that you're going

00:06:27.220 to vote. We need to know that. We need to know that you did vote. We need to know how many votes

00:06:36.900 there are out there and how many of you are actually going to need help to get to the polls.

00:06:44.260 Our GOTV is going to be absolutely crucial to winning this and GOTV is get out to vote.

00:06:51.860 sign up to become an app member so we know you're there it's free do it here on your cell phone

00:07:03.060 at albertaprosperity.com hit the button says become a member and send everyone you know who

00:07:11.540 cares about this province to do the same now for example i'll just make it clear to you

00:07:17.220 we have three let's just use a round number we have 300 000 members we ask everybody to get three

00:07:27.780 we're at 1.2 million and that's what it's going to take to win this thing

00:07:37.220 being a member allows us to organize and communicate effectively with you

00:07:44.980 because i am sure you've noticed that the media doesn't always tell you the truth

00:07:53.140 so for us we we need to have to be able to talk to you to organize you it means that we show up

00:07:59.620 in droves on referendum day change takes hard work and we need all of you to push yourselves

00:08:07.780 no time left for excuses now we're 60 days away 55 days away this week called the three people

00:08:16.180 not a text you gotta call them i organized a fundraising dinner in bonnieville last week

00:08:24.900 and i sent 3 000 texts sold two tickets okay i got on the phone the next day and called them one-on-one

00:08:37.300 and sold 200 so i just want you to understand people look at those texts and they go click

00:08:49.700 when they talk to you they understand they know and most people that you're going to call on the

00:08:56.660 phone are going to trust you and those are the people that we need to push this over the top

00:09:02.420 up and get them to join us so that we can talk to them too and donate i want everybody to understand

00:09:14.820 something there's just let's play a silly mathematical game there's 300 000 of us

00:09:22.420 if everybody gave us 20 bucks we'd have enough for four years

00:09:26.900 like you don't have to give us ten thousand dollars but give us ten bucks once in a while

00:09:35.260 and if everybody did that it's a difference between winning and losing

00:09:39.800 and when we win we need the government in power to follow through okay we have to join the

00:09:49.840 government in power. We have to be a force inside the UCP. So that means that you have to join the

00:09:59.200 government in power, and right now that's the UCP. And then you have to participate in that system

00:10:07.040 because they have absolutely no need to make us independent, even if we win, if we don't push them

00:10:18.880 from the back so we are not joining the ucp to help the ucp we are joining the ucp to help

00:10:31.120 ourselves to help the independence movement that's the only reason i hear it all the time

00:10:38.160 oh i'm not joining with those guys because i don't agree with this or with that it's not about that

00:10:45.280 it's about joining them so that we can have a voice inside their system the left has been doing

00:10:54.080 this forever right and i want you all if you can afford it to buy ticket to this year's agm

00:11:03.920 and if you're not pleased with what the preacher the premier is doing or what the government is

00:11:09.600 doing you will be able to take them to task on that day in person how many people here

00:11:17.360 actually are already going to the asia hey look at that

00:11:25.520 so here we are at the end of this it's a two-step process it's always been a two-step process

00:11:33.360 and there's no other way to win this so i've been asked a lot lately if we think we can actually do

00:11:39.360 this and my answer is of course we can absolutely of course we can the only reason we don't win

00:11:47.200 this is if we drop the ball especially on this question to ask a question so will it be easy

00:11:55.840 probably not will it be worth it absolutely so who would have imagined last year that we would

00:12:04.400 have a vote right now a year ago today would you have imagined that we would get ourselves

00:12:11.120 in the position to actually have a referendum vote go out there collect all those signatures

00:12:17.760 and thank all of you for that and that we're in a position to vote on our own future

00:12:27.440 so i want to thank you for being here i want to thank you for everything that you've carried

00:12:32.720 for it to get us here this far. Now let's go build it together. A new future awaits us

00:12:41.040 if we can claim it. And we need to claim it. It's not going to be given to us. Thanks, everybody.

00:12:48.800 Have a good day.
