00:01:14.940 Hello, everybody. I'm Lou Dobbs. Welcome to the Great America Show. Thank you for being
00:01:22.280 with us. It's been a rough week for the Republican Party and after a week of election losses across
00:01:27.620 the board, from the governor's race in Kentucky to the state legislature in Virginia, it's begging
00:01:33.460 the question, why is Ronna Romney McDaniel still running the Republican National Committee?
00:01:39.620 Just a day after the Republicans lost those elections, the RNC hosted their third presidential
00:01:46.540 debate, wasting more time and wasting more money. One pundit said they all looked like they were in a
00:01:53.240 Saturday Night Live skit on that stage. The final five, let's call them survivors or stragglers,
00:01:59.580 but there they are. Chris Christie, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy and Tim Scott. Not one of
00:02:07.760 them has even a one percent chance of beating Donald Trump in a primary, according to polling going back
00:02:13.840 to as, well, as far back as last year. So why is the Republican National Committee wasting time and
00:02:20.680 money on these debates? The truth of the matter is Ronna McDaniel has never won a thing. She did nothing
00:02:27.600 to help Trump in 2020. She oversaw the loss of the Senate, the loss of the House, the presidency.
00:02:33.660 The only reason the Republicans won back the House in 2022 was because of the members' message to the
00:02:39.940 American people that order needed to be restored so that the Biden crime family could be investigated
00:02:46.340 and checks and balances restored and put on the Marxist-Stim dictator himself, puppet President Joe Biden.
00:02:54.240 And with just a few weeks on the job, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has already shown more
00:03:00.180 leadership, principled decision-making than Kevin McCarthy in the eyes of the American people.
00:03:06.080 A new Rasmussen poll finds 47 percent of likely voters have a favorable opinion of Johnson,
00:03:12.380 and that includes 63 percent Republicans, 35 percent Dems, 57 percent of Republicans say Johnson
00:03:19.480 will do a better job than McCarthy. And not many people knew who Mike Johnson was a few weeks ago.
00:03:26.920 House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan is another Republican who is both liked and highly
00:03:32.200 respected, and his committee is doing the Lord's work. This week his committee uncovered new emails
00:03:38.280 showing officials at the Department of Homeland Security created a Stanford University disinformation
00:03:44.740 group that censored conservative American voices and speech before the 2020 election.
00:03:51.520 The interim report showed internal communications from the group, known as the Election Integrity
00:03:57.500 Partnership, showing how it worked with the DHS agency, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure
00:04:04.300 Security Agency. That agency suppressed and removed online speech in coordination with big tech
00:04:11.400 companies. CISA is the same organization that put out a statement just days after the 2020 election,
00:04:19.300 telling all of us, all Americans, that it was the most secure election in history. Here is Chairman
00:04:26.460 Jordan on this latest revelation.
00:04:29.300 We're six years ago. We had a hearing about attempts to curtail free speech on college campuses right next
00:04:35.120 door in the Oversight Committee. The hearing touched on emerging threats to the First Amendment,
00:04:39.280 safe spaces, cancel culture, and the targeting of conservative activist student groups.
00:04:45.620 Unfortunately, this was not a fad, and the hostility towards certain points of view, and particularly
00:04:50.740 conservative points of view, has only grown worse. And it's no longer universities just censoring
00:04:56.240 their students. We now know that American universities were working with the federal government to
00:05:01.060 systematically target speech on the internet. Just this week, the committee released,
00:05:05.120 committee Republicans released information showing Stanford University worked with the Cybersecurity
00:05:10.560 and Infrastructure Security Agency, or CISA, and the State Department's Global Engagement Center to
00:05:15.960 censor certain speech in the lead up to the 2020 election. Big government, big academia, and big tech
00:05:22.880 all colluding to limit Americans' First Amendment free speech rights. They were targeting jokes,
00:05:29.460 political opinions. Most importantly, they targeted true information. But the speech that was
00:05:34.840 censored all leaned a certain way. What used to be the bastions of free speech and the marketplace
00:05:40.280 of ideas evolved into institutions of activism and suppression. With, quote, safe spaces and free
00:05:46.460 speech zones aimed to protect students from violence, one would think Jewish students would have somewhere
00:05:51.420 to turn as violent pro-Hamas students take to their demonstrations and have harmed students on college
00:05:57.240 campuses. But that's not the case, as we will see in today's hearing. Nearly a 400% increase in anti-Semitic
00:06:04.280 incidents, including harassment, vandalism, and assault in the two weeks after the Hamas attacks
00:06:10.320 against Israel. We need to be doing more to protect the freedom of expression. Imagine that. Three years
00:06:16.640 after the 2020 election, we're just now confirming what we already knew, that the Marxist Dems did anything
00:06:24.400 they could to destroy the country and at any expense and continue to do so. Our guest today is a man who's
00:06:31.420 been fighting against the Marxist Dems for years and is fighting harder than ever. He's Senator Ted Cruz
00:06:37.420 from the great state of Texas, and he has a brand new book out. It's titled Unwoke, How to Defeat Cultural
00:06:43.860 Marxism in America. Senator, great to have you with us. Congratulations on the new book. Let's talk about
00:06:50.780 cultural Marxism. Give us a sense of what you mean when you talk about cultural Marxism versus
00:06:56.500 good old plain old Soviet style Marxism. Right. Well, sure. It's good to be with you,
00:07:02.740 Lou. Thank you for having me. But look, I wrote this book because like millions of Americans,
00:07:08.940 I'm infuriated at what is happening to our country. And many of us are wondering,
00:07:15.140 how in the hell did this happen? And in the book, which is called Unwoke, How to Defeat Cultural
00:07:21.200 Marxism in America, this book chronicles how the radical left seized control of the major
00:07:28.760 institutions in our nation. And so chapter one of the book, it starts with universities. And I refer
00:07:34.880 to universities as the Wuhan lab of the woke virus. The universities are where it was invented,
00:07:43.580 where it was created, and they're where it mutated and they're where it spread. And then each chapter of
00:07:48.660 the book focuses on a different institution that the radical left has taken over. So it goes from
00:07:53.780 universities to K through 12 education, elementary school, junior high, high school. From there,
00:07:59.780 it goes to journalism. And sadly, most of corporate journalism is utterly destroyed, a world you know
00:08:05.160 very, very well. From there, it goes to big business. And big business, more and more woke corporations
00:08:13.340 are engaged in politics rather than business. From big business, it goes to big tech, which is engaged
00:08:20.420 in pervasive censorship. From big tech, it goes to entertainment, Hollywood, movies, TVs, TV, music,
00:08:28.420 sports, perhaps the most consequential of all of the institutions. And then from there, it goes to
00:08:34.500 science, the profound politicization of science. And then the final chapter in the book is on China.
00:08:41.000 And I explain how China is a nexus that connects all of these institutions. And the purpose of the
00:08:48.020 book is really twofold. Number one, to explain how and why radical leftists seized control from the
00:08:55.800 inside of these institutions. But then number two, to lay out a battle plan, a precise plan of action
00:09:02.880 for taking the institutions back. Because if we don't, we will lose our country.
00:09:07.900 And we're in the process of doing exactly that this very moment. And on this podcast, I occasionally
00:09:16.860 talk about Marxism and the just extraordinary control that the Marxist Dems, that's also taken
00:09:25.980 over the Democrat Party, I think it's important to add. And the Marxist Dems control every agency
00:09:32.640 in every department of the federal government. It is not an overstatement. It is not hyperbole.
00:09:38.660 It is the extant reality. Your judgment on how do we begin, begin at least, to roll back Marxism
00:09:49.280 in the government? And is it the appropriate institution to begin with? Is it a smarter play
00:09:54.840 to go to business, to universities, public schools, K through 12?
00:09:59.380 Look, I think we need to fight for every one of these institutions. You're absolutely right
00:10:03.880 that in the federal government right now, we see cultural Marxist setting policy. And there's a
00:10:09.680 chapter in the book that focuses on government and the weaponization of the Department of Justice,
00:10:14.660 of the FBI, of the IRS, of the entire federal government. And, you know, your first question you
00:10:20.220 ask, what is cultural Marxism? And I think it, understanding what it is helps us understand how
00:10:26.500 we fight back at it. Marxism originated, as you know, with, with Karl Marx, when he wrote the
00:10:31.780 Communist Manifesto. And he laid out a worldview that society is fundamentally and irreconcilably
00:10:38.040 a conflict, a conflict between oppressors and victims. And he looked at it from a socioeconomic
00:10:45.460 perspective. And so for Marx, the oppressors were the owners of capital and the victims were the
00:10:51.780 proletariat, the workers. And Marxist solution that he put forward was a violent revolution of the
00:10:57.700 proletariat to overthrow the owners of capital and to use government power to forcibly redistribute the
00:11:05.300 wealth and the power from the oppressors to the victims. Now, the book Unwoke chronicles how starting
00:11:11.520 in the 1960s and 70s, Marxists began infiltrating universities, getting tenured positions on college
00:11:18.320 campuses. And, and first of all, they were plain vanilla Marxists. They believed in, in communism,
00:11:23.400 as I just described. But from there, it mutated and, and, and, and critical race theory was born,
00:11:30.460 which uses the same Marxist frame of oppressors and victims. But instead of being socioeconomic,
00:11:36.300 it looks at race and it posits an irreconcilable conflict based on race and the same solution,
00:11:42.300 a violent overthrow of the victims over the oppressors. From there, it mutated to gender and
00:11:47.860 sexual orientation and gender identity. And, and, and we're seeing right now the manifestation,
00:11:53.760 you know, in, in the, the rabid antisemitism we're seeing. I, a couple of weeks ago, I was
00:12:01.360 talking with a very successful tech entrepreneur in Silicon Valley, someone who leans, leans left has
00:12:06.620 consistently been a Democrat. And Louie was asking me, he was befuddled, where did this vicious
00:12:13.380 anti-Semitism on the left come from? Whether it's the squad in the house or all of these protests
00:12:19.340 and riots on college campuses. And I explained to him that for the radical leftists, Jews are coded as
00:12:29.140 oppressors and Palestinians are coded as victims. And so the cultural Marxists support the violent
00:12:37.520 overthrow by the victims of the oppressors and using force to redistribute power. And that is why
00:12:44.300 you see the cultural Marxists celebrating the Hamas terrorists. It's why you see at Harvard,
00:12:50.420 my alma mater, you see 35 student groups putting out an absurd statement that all of the murders and
00:12:57.440 rapes and atrocities carried out by the Hamas terrorists are a hundred percent the fault of Israel.
00:13:02.980 That is because cultural Marxists support the violent overthrow. And we're seeing that across
00:13:10.400 the arena on the far left. And of course, that interpretation and that extrapolation on the
00:13:15.840 part of the Marxists is fundamentally flawed. And I think speaks to something of a cognitive issue
00:13:24.920 that is common to Marxism in this country and globally. We're going to take up that issue.
00:13:31.820 We're going to take up another important institution that I know is near and dear to
00:13:37.440 your heart. And that is the legal profession, the federal judiciary in particular, and what has
00:13:42.860 become of our law schools and the lawyers that they're graduating into our society. We're talking
00:13:49.840 with Senator Ted Cruz. The Great America Show will continue in one moment. Please stay with us.
00:13:54.680 We're talking with Senator Ted Cruz. Welcome back. And Senator, thanks again for being here.
00:14:05.420 A fascinating book, and we recommend it highly to everyone. Unwoke, something we need to get
00:14:11.960 underway right now. Let's turn to the legal profession. I was talking with Alan Dersowicz some
00:14:18.340 weeks ago. And he started explaining how the left and the Marxists have taken a foothold in the law
00:14:28.940 schools themselves that are turning out all of the lawyers, bright and able and ambulance chasers as
00:14:36.200 well, but all exposed to the Marxist ideology. And they have to conform or they don't do as well as they might
00:14:45.800 otherwise do. That is that ebbing. Is it intensifying? And how concerned should every American be about our
00:14:54.940 judiciary and the lawyers that make up the entire legal system?
00:14:59.540 So we should be very concerned. And unfortunately, it's intensifying. It's getting worse. You know,
00:15:04.660 as you know, Alan Dershowitz is a good friend of mine. He was my criminal law professor when I was in
00:15:09.780 law school. And I still remember I showed up as a 1L, a first year law student in 1993. And Dershowitz was
00:15:17.060 up front. And he said, listen, he said, on any objective measure, he said, I'm in the most liberal
00:15:26.320 one percent of America. I'm an old school liberal. But he said, the bizarre thing about Harvard Law
00:15:31.280 School is I'm considered relatively conservative here because Alan, among other things, is willing
00:15:35.460 to support Israel and he passionately supports Israel. And Alan also passionately supports free
00:15:41.220 speech. And today's illiberal left, the cultural Marxist, they don't believe in free speech. They
00:15:46.920 believe in power and censorship and forcing you to submit. And the opening chapter talk in the book
00:15:54.780 Unwoke, focusing on the universities, you asked about law schools. I talk about Stanford Law School.
00:16:00.620 And you may remember an incident a number of months ago where a federal appellate judge,
00:16:04.780 Kyle Duncan, went to give a speech, a sponsored speech on campus. And the law students there began
00:16:10.640 screaming and yelling epithets at him and screaming, I hope your daughters get raped. And it was it was an
00:16:18.060 unruly mob that shouted him down, prevented him from giving a speech. And it was really a disgraceful
00:16:23.260 performance. Now, if any lawyer tried to do what those law students did, if you tried to shout
00:16:29.860 down and curse at a federal judge, you'd be held in contempt and you'd go to jail. That is not lawyers
00:16:35.620 don't get to do what they just did. Now, when that happened, it was it was a very sad chapter. But I
00:16:42.200 described two things that I did in response that produced meaningful results. Number one, I wrote a
00:16:47.980 letter both to the Stanford president and to the and to the dean of the Stanford Law School calling on
00:16:53.300 Stanford to fire the administrator, the DEI administrator who came in and sided with the mob
00:16:59.420 over the federal judge. And Lou, remarkably, the administration of Stanford did exactly that.
00:17:06.160 And there's power to shining a light. And and and they fired their administrator. That was a major
00:17:12.680 victory. A second thing I did, I sent a letter to the Texas State Bar and called on the bar to to
00:17:20.880 impose extra scrutiny on graduates from Stanford Law School. Now, to be a member of the bar to be
00:17:26.000 admitted to the bar, you have to pass a character and fitness test. And in my view, if you are screaming
00:17:32.140 and cursing at judges, you are not demonstrating the character and fitness that a member of the bar is
00:17:36.960 expected to have. And I wrote the letter and I reproduce in the book the response I got. I got a
00:17:42.480 response from the chief justice of the Texas Supreme Court, Nathan Hecht, whom I know well. And he wrote
00:17:48.540 back saying that that they he emphatically agreed. And going forward, the Texas bar would would would
00:17:56.700 conduct additional inquiry of graduates, especially from Stanford Law School and Yale Law School, where
00:18:02.820 they've had similar incidents because the administrators were not protecting free speech,
00:18:08.180 were not stopping unruly students. So the Texas State Bar was going to independently inquire to make
00:18:14.640 sure that they were not admitting to the Texas bar people that that could not engage in a civil,
00:18:20.940 respectful conversation with a federal judge. And so that's an example of the kinds of victories in
00:18:26.100 my book. I call for other state bars, for Florida bars and other at least red state bars to do
00:18:32.820 the same thing, because in order to stop what's happening, there have to be meaningful
00:18:38.900 consequences. People respond to incentives. And so one of the themes of the solutions that I push in this
00:18:45.480 book is on the cost benefit ledger, we need to substantially increase the cost of the radical behavior
00:18:53.900 that's becoming the norm.
00:18:54.900 And that that Marxist, the culture of Marxism in the in the bar. One final question. Lawfare, they have raised the
00:19:06.780 cost for every conservative, for everyone who disagrees with them. That is the Marxist left in this country, the
00:19:13.720 Marxist Dems. You mentioned the red and the blue states, the bars are they are colored. And the fact of the matter is,
00:19:21.740 those red state bars are getting fewer and fewer, and the blue deeper by the by the day. What is the
00:19:29.720 response from the judiciary, the chief justice of the Supreme Court? We'll start with that. He's
00:19:37.220 responsible. John Roberts is responsible for the federal judiciary. And what he is watching is eight
00:19:41.960 years of political persecution of Donald Trump. He is watching ignorance on the part of the left, and what
00:19:47.780 they are doing to to citizens who just simply, simply disagree with them on politics, and they're
00:19:53.720 being destroyed. And no, and everyone is mute on it. What do you recommend is the the solution?
00:20:00.520 Listen, I agree with you that what we are seeing from the Biden administration and from Democrat DAs
00:20:05.840 is an absolute abuse of power. The four indictments against Donald Trump are garbage. This is in over 200
00:20:13.900 years of our nation's history. We've never indicted a president or a former president or a major
00:20:17.940 candidate for president. And, and the Democrats have done so four times. And it's because they hate
00:20:23.880 him so much that they are willing to try to do anything they can to destroy him. And there's an
00:20:28.880 irony to this. So like all good Marxists, the cultural Marxist twist words, and often what they say
00:20:36.920 they are for is precisely the opposite as, as Orwell said in 1984, two plus two equals five. And if they
00:20:44.160 demand that everyone must, must agree with it. Well, in this instance, all virtue signaling Democrats
00:20:49.540 say they are defending democracy by which they mean electing left-wing cultural Marxist. But the irony is
00:20:57.000 this abuse of power against Donald Trump is a massive assault on democracy. The reason they are bringing
00:21:04.940 these cases is because they're terrified that next November, the American people will vote to
00:21:10.880 reelect Donald Trump. And that scares them out of their mind. And they're willing to do everything
00:21:15.400 they can. The Biden justice department is willing to do everything it can to abuse its power, to stop
00:21:22.420 democracy. And so this book on woke, I want to encourage all your viewers, all your listeners,
00:21:27.300 it's available in every bookstore in America. You can get it on Amazon online and, or Barnes and Noble
00:21:33.360 or books a million, go order a copy and, and, and Christmas is coming up. It makes a great gift.
00:21:39.300 Get it for your mom, get it, get it for your kids. Your kids need to understand what's going on in this
00:21:44.560 book. It's fun. It's readable. It tells stories. It's not an abstract academic tome. It is useful and
00:21:52.120 real world. And I wrote this because if we don't understand what's happening to the country, we're not
00:21:57.460 going to be able to pull it back. I think you've picked up on some very, very important marketing
00:22:02.640 skills, Senator. And we, we are sitting here in awe and you left out friends and neighbors as well.
00:22:10.700 Absolutely. I'm a capitalist, an unapologetic capitalist.
00:22:14.160 Amen, brother. Great to have you with us and best of luck again. Congratulations on the book. We recommend it
00:22:19.620 highly. Thanks so much, Senator.
00:22:21.140 Thank you. Senator Ted Cruz, the book is entitled Unwoke, How to Defeat Cultural Marxism in America.
00:22:29.380 And I want you to know, I recommend it to you highly. Thanks everybody for being with us today.
00:22:34.580 Our guests here tomorrow on the Great America Show will be our Great America foreign policy experts,
00:22:39.720 Gordon Chang and Tony Schaefer. Hope you'll join us for that. And each and every day, please join us.
00:22:45.960 Thanks everybody. God bless you and may God bless America.
00:22:51.140 God bless you and may God bless you and may God bless you and may God bless you and may God bless you and may God bless you and may God bless you and may God bless you and may God bless you and may God bless you and may God bless you.
