00:01:18.340 Hello, everybody. I'm Lou Dobbs. Welcome to The Great America Show. Thanks for being with

00:01:26.920 us. Great to have you here. Joe Biden's trip to the Middle East was a bust and an embarrassing

00:01:32.320 bust at that. It was more of a touch and go for Air Force One than a true diplomatic mission.

00:01:39.420 Three of the leaders the president meant to talk with canceled the meeting as he departed

00:01:44.660 Washington. Leaders of Palestine, Jordan and Egypt decided to say no thanks. The Iranian foreign 0.96

00:01:52.540 minister sent out a tweet saying time is up for Israel, whatever that means. It turns out it means 0.60

00:01:58.180 nothing. Another empty threat by the Iranians, referencing an explosion at Gaza Hospital that 0.97

00:02:04.220 killed hundreds of people. But the foreign minister was pushing nothing more than Arab Street

00:02:09.580 propaganda. What he didn't know was that the IDF, the Israeli Defense Forces, and U.S. intelligence

00:02:16.580 had video evidence that the hospital was hit by a missile fired by the Palestinian Islamic

00:02:23.340 Jihad that misfired and then hit the hospital. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu replied

00:02:30.580 to the tweet from the Iranian foreign minister saying, quote,

00:02:33.660 Israel lives. The people of Israel will win. And to that we say God bless and keep Israel.

00:02:41.660 Turning now to the battle for speaker on Capitol Hill, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim

00:02:46.820 Jordan came up short again of the 217 votes needed. In the second round of voting, Jordan only lost the

00:02:54.500 support of one Republican. That man, a congressman by the name of Vern Buchanan, a 72-year-old

00:03:01.060 congressman from Florida serving his 16th year in Congress, who apparently decided to just be as

00:03:07.500 supercilious as possible and switched his vote to Byron Donalds, who doesn't want the vote.

00:03:14.820 Jordan says he's staying in the fight till it's done. Ask about the establishment call to give

00:03:19.980 speaker powers to the Speaker Pro Tem Patrick McHenry. Jordan said, we need to elect a Republican

00:03:26.800 Speaker and not Patrick McHenry, who is, by the way, supporting Jordan.

00:03:32.560 What do you think of these calls to introduce a resolution to empower McHenry to be the Speaker

00:03:38.600 Pro Tem on a permanent basis? Would you support that?

00:03:41.220 I don't think that's the right way to go. I think we should get a Republican Speaker.

00:03:44.060 I got 90 percent of the Republicans in the conference supporting me.

00:03:47.840 Would that help buy you more time?

00:03:49.720 No, I mean, I think we should get a Republican Speaker. I've been very clear about that.

00:03:52.860 I think that's where the conference is. That's what our rules suggest. So let's get a Republican

00:03:56.600 Speaker and get about the people's business.

00:03:58.380 Good for Jim Jordan staying in the fight against almost two dozen rhinos, a group that contains 0.99

00:04:03.680 more than a few screwballs and daffodils. They're acting out their personal gripes and hurt feelings.

00:04:10.180 And at some point, surely, we'll take this matter seriously because it is a serious matter.

00:04:16.140 Another member of Congress who's taking great joy in this holdup of electing a Speaker

00:04:20.420 is Marxist-Dim Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. Take a listen to Comrade Jeffries. Take on why

00:04:28.140 Jim Jordan could not make a good Speaker of the House no matter what.

00:04:32.920 Jim Jordan clearly does not have the votes to be Speaker for good reason. Jim Jordan is the poster

00:04:41.260 child for MAGA extremism. He is a clear and present danger to our democracy. There are many good

00:04:50.060 men and women on the Republican side of the aisle who are qualified to be the Speaker of the House of

00:04:56.640 Representatives. There is no circumstance where Jim Jordan is one of them.

00:05:01.140 If the Marxist Minority Leader's speech sounded familiar, that's because he plagiarized that line

00:05:07.380 from fellow Marxist Dem Nancy Pelosi. Here she is back in 2021 saying the very same thing about

00:05:15.460 then-President Trump. We know that we faced enemies of the Constitution. We know we experienced the

00:05:21.180 insurrection that violated the sanctity of the people's capital and attempted to overturn the

00:05:27.060 duly recorded will of the American people. And we know that the President of the United States

00:05:33.200 incited this insurrection, this armed rebellion against our common country. He must go. He is a clear

00:05:41.740 and present danger to the nation that we all love. Marxist Dem plagiarism. It seems contagious for

00:05:49.320 them. It started with Joe Biden in the good old days and then is now carried by Hakeem Jeffries.

00:05:55.700 Tough fella, by the way, with all that clear and present danger stuff, don't you think? Scary.

00:06:00.600 We still need a Speaker of the House. Jim Jordan says he's in the fight all the way. Congressman Keith

00:06:05.940 Self of Texas and I talked after the second round of voting for Jordan, and now here he is with us.

00:06:12.860 Congressman Self, great to have you with us here on The Great America Show. If we use Kevin McCarthy's

00:06:18.360 experience as a guide, there could be at least another dozen rounds of voting. Is this just a first

00:06:23.820 phase or what should we expect? I think you should expect this to go a bit longer. It's going as

00:06:31.600 expected. We expected to lose some votes today for Jim Jordan. In fact, it was better than expected.

00:06:37.820 We thought the loss could be five or six, and it was a net loss of one, which we thought was very good.

00:06:45.780 Remember, McCarthy actually lost three during his January 15 votes. So I said this morning that this

00:06:54.300 truly is a heavyweight fight. So in a boxing match, heavyweight fight goes 12 rounds. You know,

00:07:02.640 12 rounds might be reasonable because we're going to have to have some more time for people to get

00:07:09.720 over what they have angst about, what they're frustrated about, and come over to the conference

00:07:16.580 nominee, which is Jim Jordan. You know, I kind of get a kick out of this. I've been watching

00:07:22.740 Congresses for a long time. I've been watching the political process. But I get a kick out of

00:07:29.820 the game of expectations. And the establishment now is saying, my gosh, it's already in the second

00:07:36.420 round, and he's going to lose, they said, two votes. But the truth of the matter is, in January,

00:07:43.640 just January of this very year, the previous speaker went 15 rounds in four days of votes.

00:07:49.300 It is, on that level, amusing. On another level, I'm deeply concerned because I see really just

00:07:58.980 frivolity, triviality on the part of the members of the holdout 20, if you will. It's really

00:08:09.720 distressing.

00:08:11.220 Well, Lou, in January, we stood for something. We needed the rules to change the trajectory of

00:08:19.580 the way Congress worked. Today, they're not asking for anything. They're just mad. They're

00:08:25.340 just frustrated. They're just the appropriators, the defense hawks, and they want to just protect

00:08:33.540 their appropriations. Because those are the money that truly do control the power and the money in

00:08:41.580 Washington, D.C. There are those of us that came to Congress to change that trajectory, to change the

00:08:47.560 money and power in D.C.

00:08:49.760 And good for you for doing so, because if ever a change were needed, this is it. We've got a host of

00:08:56.660 major issues facing the country, as you well know. You're there to fix it. But a deficit,

00:09:04.220 we're talking about $2 trillion deficits that could rise, well, I was going to say exponentially,

00:09:11.240 but not quite that bad. But when you're talking about a trillion dollars a whack, it gets to be

00:09:17.320 serious money, as the old saying goes. And having those $2 trillion deficits, as we look at a 33 and

00:09:26.060 growing a trillion dollar national debt. We've reached a point where we're actually now spending

00:09:34.080 more money in covering the debt because these interest rates are rising. We're spending more

00:09:39.760 money to service the debt, to pay for the debt that we are for our own military. It's insane.

00:09:45.920 And Lou, I think the American people are waking up because they see the inflation that they're

00:09:51.820 enduring. They hear the debt. They see the issues on the southern border. Their frustration and anger

00:10:00.500 with the federal government is real out there. And frankly, we're seeing it in the phone calls that

00:10:05.020 they are making to their Republican congressmen. Everyone is getting slammed. I mean, some of their

00:10:10.500 phones are busy, continuously busy, because people are telling them, we need to get a Republican

00:10:17.500 speaker. Don't talk about a bipartisan government. Don't talk about a Democrat speaker of the House.

00:10:23.500 We want a Republican speaker, and we want it now. Absolutely. And meanwhile, we've got some,

00:10:30.440 and I'm going to say it this way, we've got some fools voting for John Boehner, Lee Zeldin. 0.99

00:10:37.100 Really? I mean, do these screwballs understand that the American people watching them know 0.99

00:10:45.700 that that is just frivolous, that it's a waste of time, and it's plain, as far as I'm concerned, 0.99

00:10:51.260 ignorant? Well, I think they are listening to their constituents and realizing that they need to make

00:10:58.220 a change. I think the establishment understands the fight that they are in, that we are going to change

00:11:05.660 the trajectory of Congress. We are going to have a conservative Speaker of the House, which we

00:11:10.500 haven't had in recent memory. Somebody that is going to change our fiscal policies, that's going 0.97

00:11:19.160 to actually go through the budget process on time, as it's supposed to be, and hold some of these

00:11:24.920 appropriators and the committees accountable. It's what we need in the Speaker of the House. That's the

00:11:30.700 leader of the House. We cannot let up on this. Now, we, as members of Congress, are not applying

00:11:39.300 pressure to them. We're trying to point out where we think they need to go, but it's the grassroots.

00:11:44.860 It's the grassroots organizations that are applying the pressure today.

00:11:48.500 Well, and I am delighted. We use that capital switchboard number quite often on this podcast,

00:11:57.740 and it's a delight to know that some folks are using it because they really do need to get engaged.

00:12:05.000 This is, we're in too critical a period of our history, whether it's our foreign policy, whether

00:12:11.420 it is our domestic policy, our fiscal policy, everything is in tatters because of this administration.

00:12:18.500 I could never, to be just absolutely straightforward about this, folks, I could never have imagined

00:12:26.500 in my worst nightmare politically that even a Marxist dem like Joe Biden and his acolytes who came into

00:12:37.480 this to make up his regime could do this much damage to the United States in such a short period

00:12:44.480 of time. I've got to ask you, Congressman, could you have imagined this?

00:12:49.660 No, I couldn't have, but we've seen it coming for a while. Once Congress started abdicating its

00:12:54.620 responsibility to the departments and the agencies, that's when you started seeing the executive branch

00:13:00.460 do well beyond the Constitution. They have taken Article 2, Article 1 authority,

00:13:06.720 and they have expanded it so that Congress really doesn't have the authority we should have.

00:13:15.040 And you see it in the executive orders that are passed. You see it in the Fed. You see it in the

00:13:20.140 entire federal government taking authorities that they don't really have under the Constitution.

00:13:25.020 Well, you're absolutely correct, historically. I mean, it started really fast-tracking as the expression

00:13:33.000 became, fast-tracking the stamping of agreements on commerce, international trade. Rather than

00:13:42.080 seeking government approval, you know, we'll just fast-track that and let it go. And still doing so

00:13:48.980 only on steroids now. Is there, in your judgment, and I know this to some may seem a little in the

00:13:56.920 weeds, but is there a movement in the Congress right now to reclaim the responsibility? You'll

00:14:05.300 always have that responsibility because it's written into the Constitution. I mean, it's been what's been

00:14:09.500 given away to reclaim that authority. Do you know we had that discussion in a conference several nights

00:14:16.860 ago now, before the weekend, I guess. And one of the chairmen, I'm not going to name him, made that

00:14:22.080 exact point, that that is the real crux of the problem. We can deal with the symptoms, but until

00:14:28.520 we get to that root cause, which is Congress has ceded its authority to the executive branch, we're not

00:14:36.000 going to be able to do much about it. We've got to get there. You're exactly right, Lou. I appreciate

00:14:41.040 you making that point. And one of our chairmen very eloquently made that point in conference.

00:14:46.120 Well, that's good. And we're going to take a quick break here, Congressman, and come back. We're

00:14:50.920 talking with Congressman Keith Self, and we're going to take up what Congress is doing next and

00:14:55.760 just how Jim Jordan gets to the speakership, and we hope soon. We'll be right back. Stay with us.

00:15:08.140 We'll come back now with Congressman Keith Self, and we're talking about Congress and its

00:15:13.520 responsibilities. And the first responsibility in this moment is to get a speaker elected.

00:15:20.000 As we look at what is happening here, to hear the minority leader of the, what I call the Marxist

00:15:29.060 Dems in the House, this man sounded like a communist for crying out loud. And I'm talking about Hakeem

00:15:35.800 Jeffries as he attacked Jim Jordan, talking about the clear and present danger he poses to the

00:15:41.600 republic. He stole that line, by the way, from Nancy Pelosi in 2021. That's what she said about

00:15:48.180 then President Trump. It was an ignorant and I think remarkably classless statement. 0.99

00:15:56.060 Your thoughts about what they're trying to accomplish as they're stirring things up in the midst of this 0.94

00:16:02.440 moment of indecision about who will be speaker. I have a couple of thoughts. First of all,

00:16:08.000 it was a nominating speech. He should have talked about his nomination, the man or woman that he was

00:16:15.740 putting into nomination. He did not. He talked about our nominee. I just, I think it was not a nominating

00:16:24.880 speech. And secondly, I will say what they are doing to Jim Jordan is exactly what happened to Robert

00:16:29.940 Bork and Clarence Thomas years ago for their nominations to the, their nominations to the

00:16:36.760 Supreme Court. This is personal assassination, character assassination. And that's what they're

00:16:42.200 trying to do. I, this morning, I talked about Morton Blackwell years ago. He said, if, if you don't have

00:16:51.160 something they can use against you, they will make it up. This is what happens today when you rise to high

00:16:56.840 office. It just is, uh, it's the, it's the, uh, playbook of the Marxist Dems, as you say. And I will

00:17:04.340 tell you, the American people are tired of this. Uh, this is why we get called the swamp up here when

00:17:10.620 we go this route. If the swamp, I, we put out a podcast entitled, uh, Jim Jordan, uh, clear and

00:17:21.320 present, uh, danger to the swamp, because that's, what's really happening here. Uh, that the swamp is

00:17:26.960 unleashing everything. It's got the, the establishment to, to, to bring in new Gingrich,

00:17:34.080 former speaker of the house, John Boehner, former speaker of the house, and then tell us all that

00:17:38.080 it's there. It's just fine. If you want to, we, we could extend the powers of the speaker pro Tim

00:17:45.140 Patrick McHenry, and he'll be just fine. If you just, you know, extend those authorities and

00:17:50.140 establish that. I couldn't believe the rank clumsiness and amateurish nonsense that those

00:17:57.880 two participated in. And I'm, I'm, I'm embarrassed for them, uh, for them to participate in that.

00:18:04.540 Well, Lou, uh, let me tell you, this is now bigger than Jim Jordan. You just pointed out, uh,

00:18:11.140 the establishment, the swamp, whatever you want to call them. They are in full mode right now,

00:18:16.740 full attack mode against Jim Jordan, but that's because it's bigger than Jim Jordan.

00:18:21.060 They see an actual threat to the power and money that they control. And I think they realize now

00:18:27.540 this is a real threat, something we've been moving toward since January in this Congress.

00:18:32.700 We've had some missteps. We've used Democrat votes, uh, to pass a couple of very important bills.

00:18:37.960 Uh, but this is why I talk about TNT, Lou, uh, that is Trump and Tuberville. Trump is so successful.

00:18:47.180 Why? Because he fights for the American people and Tuberville is actually holding the line. And

00:18:54.420 the best line of all is when, uh, Senator Tuberville says, I'm not the one breaking the law.

00:19:01.280 That's right.

00:19:02.100 Those two are fighting righteous fights for the American people.

00:19:06.260 Senator Tuberville standing up just for those who may not be familiar with the, the, the stand that

00:19:13.520 he's taken. And it's, it's been going for nine months now. Uh, he has frozen, uh, general officer

00:19:19.040 promotions, uh, for, for all that time. And it's driving people crazy. And I love the fact that, uh,

00:19:27.320 former CIA director, former NSA director, general Michael Hayden, uh, said that Tuberville should be

00:19:35.300 dismissed from the human race effectively. Uh, and then tried to skirt around it with his language 1.00

00:19:40.460 saying, well, I, I didn't say it that way, but he did say it and intended it exactly that way.

00:19:45.200 Uh, Tuberville puts him up, uh, turns him into the Capitol police and, uh, calls for a criminal,

00:19:52.180 uh, referral, uh, which I think by the way is too good a treatment for general Hayden. He is a

00:19:57.760 establishment, uh, ogre, uh, and an icon in his own mind. Uh, your thoughts about that, the standing

00:20:05.920 against the woke policies of the military, standing against the abortion policies of the U S military,

00:20:11.600 which now doesn't resemble the U S military.

00:20:15.140 Lou, I was in the U S army. Uh, I was an infantry officer, special forces, uh, and air and airborne

00:20:21.820 for much of my career and 10 years overseas and joint assignments. Uh, you said it exactly right.

00:20:28.040 This is not the military in which I served. Uh, we have got to, and frankly, in the DOD

00:20:33.500 appropriations bills and several of the appropriations bills, we've got policy writers

00:20:38.260 that pull out the DEI, the wokeness, uh, that does not fund abortion that says they will not fund

00:20:45.060 abortion or abortion travel. So those are the appropriations bills that one, we need to get to

00:20:50.940 the Senate. We, we funded 70% of the government with the bills we passed to include DOD and state

00:20:56.560 and foreign ops. The Senate has not taken them up. Uh, so those writers are still active in the

00:21:02.380 bills that we have passed. So Senator Tuberville is doing a excellent job. And frankly, he's not

00:21:08.360 hurting national security. Uh, those people are, are still in their positions. They're still doing

00:21:14.180 what they need to be to do. And, uh, and until I think the DOD changes that policy, uh, he will

00:21:21.360 probably stand firm. Um, I will tell you, uh, my coffee cup that's sitting on my desk right now

00:21:28.660 is, uh, Winston Churchill. It says, never, never, never give up Winston Churchill. If anybody knew about

00:21:37.940 not, not giving up, it was Winston Churchill. You better believe it. You just, uh, chose one of my

00:21:43.760 favorite, uh, historical, uh, figures and, uh, and he's, you know, he's partially, he's half American.

00:21:51.180 So that, you know, I'm not betraying the country or anything of that sort. I, Congressman, we always

00:21:57.120 give our guests, uh, the, the last, uh, the last word here. Uh, I, your thoughts, uh, is, uh, we get

00:22:03.960 ready for yet another vote, uh, for Speaker of the House. I am with Jim Jordan. I think Jim Jordan

00:22:11.120 is going to hold firm. I think we are going, uh, to several more rounds. I am convinced that Jim

00:22:18.740 Jordan is going to stay in. And as long as Jim Jordan is in, I am in, and I know we have a, uh,

00:22:25.280 a group of people that are standing with me behind Jim Jordan. Now he's used to being in the ring

00:22:30.960 by himself. He's in the ring today, but we're standing in support of Jim Jordan and we will

00:22:37.320 continue to do that. And I just encourage your, your listeners to, to keep calling. The grassroots

00:22:42.440 are making a difference. They've actually flipped a couple of votes. I just encourage them to keep

00:22:47.500 it up. Thank you so much, Lou. Thank you, Congressman. We appreciate it. Congressman Keith

00:22:51.980 Self, thanks so much for being with us. You bet. Thank you. Thanks to Congressman Keith Self.
