An event last week with indigenous people from the Amazon, along with Pope Francis, caused social media to explode. And rightfully so. We were either witnessing a pagan idol worship ceremony in the Vatican with the seeming approval of the Pope, or else it was a scandalous portrayal of the Mother of God with a crude nude statue. Frankly, I don t know which is worse.

00:00:00.680 An event last week with indigenous people from the Amazon, along with Pope Francis in the Vatican Gardens, caused social media to explode.
00:00:09.040 And rightfully so. We were either witnessing a pagan idol worship ceremony in the Vatican with the seeming approval of the Pope, 1.00
00:00:16.660 or else it was a scandalous portrayal of the Mother of God with a crude nude statue.
00:00:22.860 Frankly, I don't know which is worse, but either way, it's totally outrageous, and that's what we're discussing in this episode of the John Henry Weston Show.
00:00:32.000 Stay tuned.
00:00:39.960 Let's begin as we always do with the sign of the cross.
00:00:42.800 In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
00:00:46.540 The eve of the Amazon Synod was marked by the round table which I joined several popular, outspoken defenders of the Catholic faith
00:00:56.780 in calling out Pope Francis for the confusion he's let loose in the Church.
00:01:02.040 While that was happening, inside the Vatican Gardens was this strange and alarming scene
00:01:08.660 with what seemed like a pagan fertility ritual complete with idol worship, all in the presence of Pope Francis.
00:01:16.540 A priestess of some sort was leading the ritual with a dance and participants, including a Franciscan friar,
00:01:24.100 knelt in a circle around the blanket and sort of prostrated themselves,
00:01:29.280 bowing to the ground with their foreheads before two statues of pregnant naked women. 0.98
00:01:35.760 The priestess then shook a maraca in apparent blessing over the whole group,
00:01:41.320 including going up to the Pope, and he was there looking on with a bunch of cardinals
00:01:47.220 as this prostration before the nude women's statues took place. 1.00
00:01:53.340 As an aside, here are these left-wing Catholics not only kneeling but prostrating themselves
00:02:00.160 with their foreheads to the ground.
00:02:02.000 I find it so weird that the left-leaning prelates in the Church are the very ones
00:02:07.900 who disdain kneeling for Holy Communion, sometimes even refusing to administer Holy Communion
00:02:13.860 to those of us who kneel for Holy Communion. 0.98
00:02:17.120 That is disgusting.
00:02:19.180 But remember, too, that the account from the Bible in the book of Daniel about King Nebuchadnezzar,
00:02:25.660 who set up a golden idol and commanded all the people to bow down before it
00:02:30.440 or else be thrown into a fiery furnace.
00:02:33.560 The Jewish young people, Shadrach, Meshach, and Adonago,
00:02:37.880 refused, even under the pain of such a horrible death.
00:02:42.080 And the outraged king, if you recall, heated the furnace to seven times the normal heat
00:02:47.920 and had them bound and thrown into the furnace.
00:02:51.480 If you recall the story, they were, of course, miraculously rescued.
00:02:54.840 That was thanks, of course, their fidelity to God.
00:02:57.800 And the king even converted.
00:02:59.260 He had actually seen an angel in there with them.
00:03:02.720 And so, to see this idol worship happening in the presence of the Pope,
00:03:08.480 in the hallowed ground of the Vatican where St. Peter himself died and was buried,
00:03:13.460 is a scandal beyond imagining.
00:03:15.500 LifeSite's Rome correspondent Diane Montagna spoke with an indigenous leader from the Amazon on Saturday,
00:03:31.000 who, after viewing this ceremony on video, called it 100% pagan.
00:03:35.520 However, some suggested that perhaps these wooden statues of naked, seemingly pregnant women 0.82
00:03:42.580 were not pagan idols, but rather depictions of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Elizabeth.
00:03:47.900 Well, the official story, at least coming from the bishop the Vatican had,
00:03:52.820 speaking on the Synod at the first press conference on the Synod,
00:03:57.080 said, well, he didn't know.
00:03:59.800 Let's listen to him now.
00:04:01.000 It's an image that was shown also on other occasions, and I wouldn't know how to interpret it.
00:04:05.660 Well, we all have our own interpretation, the Virgin Mary, the Mother Earth.
00:04:09.700 Probably those who used this symbol demonstrated,
00:04:17.420 wishes to refer to fertility, to women, to life,
00:04:21.960 the life present among these Amazonian people.
00:04:25.880 That was the sentiment of Bishop David Martinez de Guerre Guinea, a Dominican.
00:04:33.000 And when he mentioned Mother Earth,
00:04:35.440 you should know that that's what he was referring to is exactly a pagan goddess.
00:04:40.840 Mother Earth is a translation of the Inca Pacamama,
00:04:44.580 which is, as you can read in Wikipedia,
00:04:47.900 a goddess revered by the indigenous people of the Andes.
00:04:51.260 She's also known as the Earth Mother, 0.93
00:04:54.040 and in Inca mythology, Pacamama is a fertility goddess
00:04:57.620 who presides over planting and harvesting,
00:05:01.280 embodies the mountains, and causes earthquakes.
00:05:03.900 She's also an ever-present and independent deity 0.52
00:05:06.900 who has her own self-sufficient and creative power to sustain life on Earth.
00:05:12.180 That's what we read from Wikipedia.
00:05:14.560 But let me say, even if you don't know exactly,
00:05:18.040 like the bishop said, if you don't know exactly what it is,
00:05:21.460 if it's either supposed to be Mother Earth or the Virgin Mary,
00:05:24.620 and Mother Earth being some kind of pagan idol, a false god,
00:05:29.420 well, maybe you should consider not prostrating yourselves
00:05:33.060 in the Vatican Gardens in front of the Pope.
00:05:36.320 All throughout the Old Testament are warnings
00:05:39.060 against bowing down to false idols.
00:05:42.180 Remember, too, that it was one of the temptations
00:05:44.740 presented to Christ by the devil after his 40-day fast.
00:05:50.000 If this was supposed to be a depiction of the Virgin Mary,
00:05:53.940 did someone not think twice about enraging our Lord
00:05:57.340 by allowing such an unworthy depiction of his Holy Mother in the Vatican?
00:06:02.500 The standards of modesty in the Catholic Church are universal
00:06:06.200 and do not just apply to the West.
00:06:10.100 Public nudity is not a Christian practice,
00:06:12.460 and beyond it being spiritually unhealthy,
00:06:15.280 it leaves people vulnerable and prone to sickness as well.
00:06:19.300 The fact that they want these kinds of things
00:06:21.880 for the indigenous people or suggest them
00:06:24.280 is really a show of non-concern
00:06:28.200 or some kind of politically correct sickness that allows this.
00:06:33.860 It's time to evangelize with the truth of Christ boldly,
00:06:38.620 and if that means sometimes saying
00:06:40.520 that a cultural practice is unhealthy,
00:06:43.380 well then, so be it.
00:06:45.180 What kind of punishment from the Lord
00:06:47.680 is the Vatican bringing down upon itself?
00:06:50.680 Well, there's a possible answer and prophecy
00:06:53.200 from the book of Exodus, chapter 20,
00:06:56.520 and I'll quote it for you.
00:06:58.500 I am the Lord your God,
00:07:00.140 who brought you up out of the land of Egypt,
00:07:02.300 out of the house of bondage,
00:07:03.860 you shall have no other gods before me.
00:07:06.080 You shall not make for yourself a graven image
00:07:08.400 or any likeness of anything that's in heaven above
00:07:11.040 or that's in the earth beneath
00:07:12.760 or that's in the water under the earth.
00:07:15.460 You shall not bow down to them or serve them,
00:07:19.260 for I, the Lord your God,
00:07:20.760 am a jealous God,
00:07:21.700 visiting iniquity of the fathers
00:07:24.060 upon the children
00:07:25.200 to the third and fourth generation
00:07:27.320 of those who hate me,
00:07:29.040 but showing steadfast love
00:07:31.820 to the thousands of those
00:07:33.940 who love me and keep my commandments.
00:07:36.860 Is this the abomination of desolation
00:07:39.020 set up in the holy place
00:07:40.360 as referred to by Christ
00:07:41.720 in the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 24,
00:07:44.360 as a sign of the end times?
00:07:45.660 Well, if it was indeed a pagan idol
00:07:50.260 set up for worship in the Vatican,
00:07:52.520 then it sure does seem to be getting close.
00:07:55.600 For LifeSite News,
