to wake up and wear this every day. I don't know.
00:00:24.000
God knows I'm not the type to be a religious. He knows I'm
00:00:40.000
be here. And without LifeSite, nobody would know what's happening
00:00:44.000
in the world anyway, the truth of it. So, because
00:00:48.000
of your video, John Henry, and all the people who responded to the LifeFunder,
00:00:52.000
whether it was directly through the LifeFunder or directly to us,
00:01:16.000
And, I don't look like I'm excited. Do I come this way?
00:01:20.000
You don't have to video the restrooms, but there's restrooms here.
00:01:26.000
This is a makeshift chapel. Our Lord is on the altar.
00:02:12.000
You see, I normally keep a very clear, wonderful desk.
00:02:20.000
So, we're unpacking. We're not packed yet. We've got a million things going on.
00:02:24.000
So, this is- I have to take this with me, and I have to take this with me.
00:02:32.000
So, we're thrilled. We have everything. Someone volunteered. A gentleman came and set up internet for us.
00:02:42.000
Oh, you know what? The people, friends of ours, they're living in the house on the property.
00:02:48.000
Because our mother married him the Lamb of God, and the Lamb is my life.
00:02:52.000
We came in, and there were these things, lambs, all over the place.
00:03:00.000
And this will be a little parlor in back of you.
00:03:12.000
I have my friend, Nancy, visiting from North Carolina.
00:03:21.000
And we graduated, and then we tried to save each other, but we both won, so.
00:03:31.000
When I first told her that Catholics could be Christians, too.
00:03:52.000
We closed the door because it's beautiful in here.
00:04:13.000
We'll take it off and make it Catholic, but everything was left here for us except the statues.
00:04:21.000
And we could raise the ceiling at seven feet if we want, which we do.
00:04:40.000
We'll break through the wall with a couple more windows.
00:04:52.000
Now, a priest came to visit us, and he said, this is your chapel.
00:05:09.000
But we'll make this into a beautiful, beautiful chapel, and people could come in from the
00:05:25.000
The bookshelves were handmade, and they're ours.
00:05:29.000
There's a few pieces of furniture that are ours, but it's all left here.
00:05:44.000
It was two double beds in each room, and a bathroom.
00:05:48.000
So, the owners who sold us this, I said, we don't need the double beds.
00:05:55.000
And she replaced them, instead of two, four, six, eight, sixteen double beds, she replaced
00:06:18.000
Here's the cup that broke when he blessed it, because his monks wanted to poison him.
00:06:28.000
We are just about to have the Synod on Synodality.
00:06:32.000
And everything that you've seen indicates that it's going to be an absolute disaster.
00:06:37.000
We have Father James Martin as a personal appointee of the Pope speaking at it.
00:06:46.000
These picks of the Pope to engage in this Synod are indicative of where we're going.
00:06:55.000
And at these times of great crisis, the church, especially those called in the laity to work
00:07:03.000
for the glory of Christ in his church, are called to gather and strategize.
00:07:09.000
Back in 2014, LifeSite launched something called Rome Life Forum.
00:07:13.000
It was a gathering at that point of some 75 life and family leaders from all around the world
00:07:22.000
And when we gathered, the majority of people were most concerned about what?
00:07:26.000
About Pope Francis, about what was going on in Rome.
00:07:36.000
Now, a decade on, we are confronted with some of the most severe challenges the church has ever faced.
00:07:43.000
And so our tradition at LifeSite is to continue with Rome Life Forum,
00:07:47.000
which has continued every year until we had to take a break over COVID because we weren't permitted.
00:07:55.000
Please come, if you feel so called, to Rome, October 31st and November 1st,
00:08:05.000
And we'll be there to strategize with His Eminence, with His Excellency,
00:08:10.000
and with many life and family leaders from around the world.
00:08:31.000
Oh, Mother, you're getting ready for a lot of sisters.
00:08:41.000
We were, you know, put out of a couple of dioceses.
00:08:46.000
We were forbidden in Oklahoma to go forward or take anybody.
00:08:56.000
And we only had seven because we were in a house.
00:10:51.000
Sister Gertrude Marie has been with me seven and a half, eight years.
00:11:04.000
So how many years has it been for you from when you were ready to now?
00:11:17.000
So, I mean, it's very much, to me, I was trying to think of it in layman's terms,
00:11:29.000
you're all ready for marriage, and then there's just delay, because...
00:11:34.000
And canceled, when I first met Bishop Candela, who was told to put me out.
00:11:40.000
He didn't even know who I was, told by a cardinal.
00:11:47.000
We met, and at the end, first time we ever met.
00:11:52.000
And at the end of the meeting, uh, he said, oh, oh, oh, by the way, cancel your vows.
00:12:03.000
Oh, by the way, like he was telling me to cancel a dental appointment.
00:12:08.000
And we had to stop, and not go forward, and not take women in, and...
00:12:15.000
Because she won't quit, no matter what you do to her.
00:12:20.000
At one point, the prayer would be, may God have mercy on our souls.
00:12:23.000
But for now, Mother, you were asked to sacrifice something, and you did.
00:12:34.000
And if I never had my final vows, I said I do with my temporary vows, with Bishop Slattery
00:13:01.000
He knows I'm a New York Jew and a businesswoman.
00:13:13.000
I'm the richest person in the whole world, no matter what is denied or what is given me.
00:13:51.000
You know that here on LifeSite we love to tell amazing stories.
00:13:56.000
There are few so heroic and amazing as the story we're about to tell you that's coming soon.
00:14:04.000
When I was in seminary, I was reading a book by Henry Nouwen.
00:14:10.000
He talked about a nuclear man, you know, and people who grew up in the 1980s were kind of formed by that immediate and constant threat of nuclear annihilation.
00:14:23.000
My generation has grown up, you know, under the specter of priestly sexual abuse.
00:14:29.000
What say you, Mr. Foreperson, is the defendant guilty or not guilty?
00:14:33.000
I think that for many of us that has also been all-encompassing.
00:14:38.000
You know, I mean, I entered the seminary in January of 2004.
00:14:42.000
And it's basically been there for me from the beginning.
00:15:16.000
And when I, first day I got here, I probably, forgive me Lord, killed three crickets.
00:15:51.000
There's another side that's not completed, but that's in place for eight cells already.
00:16:02.000
And what, go ahead, open your room if you would.
00:16:17.000
Eileen visited us in Tulsa and she's in Kansas.
00:16:45.000
But it has a toilet, private, and a shower, which is difficult for two women forever.
00:17:13.000
And we're going to take the barn doors down and build our refectory tables from them.
00:17:24.000
We're going to take the barn doors down, Sister Gertrude's idea, and make our refectory tables
00:17:51.000
No, they bought us 30 beds, and mattresses, and linens.
00:18:04.000
You guys, here, you have the same thing we do, except the opposite.
00:18:27.000
This is a huge storage room with laundry in it.
00:18:52.000
The last, what did you say, was a tree farm and everything, and the last was an event center.
00:18:59.000
They had wedding showers here and bridal events and everything.
00:19:03.000
Some of the equipment hasn't even been used yet.
00:19:18.000
But we've already visited a nearby church that wants us to teach CCD, which for me would
00:19:30.000
And we've thought, just as a beginning, once a month, walk the streets of Winsboro, bother
00:19:37.000
the world, and invite everybody, it doesn't matter who they are, to a film night once
00:19:47.000
And then a second night a month, everything you want them to know about being Catholic
00:19:54.000
So if it's cool enough, it has some fans, but we could be in here.
00:20:19.000
And then you have, beyond this, what are the other buildings?
00:20:27.000
We have a 500-foot well that supplies the whole land.
00:20:48.000
And if you're not coming to Texas, come anyway.
00:20:56.000
And as I said on the initial interview, we don't need to have...
00:21:02.000
And it was 1.2 for 50 acres, but we were able to go 1.4 and get 86.
00:21:32.000
We have a house on the property that we have a family in, husband and wife and three children, most beautiful.
00:21:56.000
The husband is our handyman, our groundskeeper.
00:22:15.000
They were married and handling a B&B and not really living the faith.
00:22:22.000
And I think they already had Gideon, their son, and Ruby started listening to Mother Miriam live.
00:22:33.000
And one day, we came, when Bishop Slattery invited us, Sister Gertrude and I came here to visit, January, a year ago, before we moved.
00:22:42.000
And they're sitting in church, and Ruby, with her husband, it was a Sunday, and she said,
00:23:03.000
He said, All we want to do is serve you the rest of our lives.
00:23:10.000
And our heart, John Henry, I know I've said this to you more than once.
00:23:17.000
The families God's designed to build his kingdom, and the enemies target to destroy.
00:23:23.000
You look at the news every day, you look at what's happening at World Youth Day, you could die, you could die.
00:23:32.000
The world is destroying the youth, the church is destroying the youth, in the name of Christ, if he's ever mentioned.
00:23:40.000
And so, here's one family that is, it's everything we live for.
00:23:52.000
So, we want lots of families to come, and we'll have, let the children play, and we'll have, I don't know what we'll have.
00:24:24.000
And the sisters have sometimes said to me, can't we wear white during the summer?
00:24:30.000
And I think I may have mentioned, they know the little story, when I was in the airport once, and I'm melting, too.
00:24:39.000
And humidity is, to me, like Captain Knight the Superman.
00:24:45.000
So, I was in an airport restroom, and I was at the sink in this habit, and there's a woman three sinks away, a large black woman, maybe in her 30s, tank top, short shorts, pouring water from the heat.
00:25:05.000
And she looked over at me, and she said, ma'am, ain't you hot in that plane?
00:25:22.000
See, three hours and more, and we spend 15 minutes and go into the cool building.
00:25:31.000
No, it's not, the heat is not our cup of tea, but blessed be God forever, as long as he gives us breath.
00:26:02.000
We don't even know what he's doing half the time.
00:26:04.000
He says, mother, there's people giving away free mulch.
00:26:13.000
We tell him what has to be done, but he wants to protect us.
00:26:31.000
And they had a little girl whom they named Rosalyn.
00:26:45.000
So we love them and they come over every Sunday at the church and the little boys bring us flowers.
00:26:53.000
To celebrate the momentous overturning of Roe v. Wade, we at LifeSite have minted just under 10,000 of these brand new limited edition pro-life silver rounds.
00:27:04.000
Now, each round is stamped with the image of the Supreme Court of the United States featuring the date that the High Court delivered this historic victory.
00:27:12.000
And on the front of our pure silver rounds, LifeSite's logo surrounded by a brilliant sunburst and draped with olive branches.
00:27:18.000
They, of course, commemorate our 25 year anniversary of LifeSite News.
00:27:27.000
These one ounce silver rounds are available from our partners at StJosephsPartners.com, where you can fulfill all of your silver and gold needs in this perilous time.
00:27:39.000
How would you have, or what do you have for mass here?
00:27:45.000
We drive 40 minutes into St Joseph the Worker in the morning.
00:27:50.000
but recently we we didn't have the time and we needed to go more locally and
00:27:56.880
there's a church in Gilmore it's 17 minutes away it's Novus Ordo but the
00:28:02.500
priest also prays Latin mass twice a week and at least the Novus Ordo was
00:28:12.100
ad orientum with Latin and reverence so we can we can do that I haven't been
00:28:17.260
there yet the sisters has but have one it's right he says beautiful they say
00:28:23.200
the priest is just beautiful they say holy and beautiful and he's the one
00:28:29.740
that's talking about our teaching CCD it's mostly Hispanic there and he's
00:28:34.540
Hispanic okay but in my heart is always to get to the parents so yeah so when and
00:28:41.920
at what point and how would that look like might you get a priest to come
00:28:47.140
here we've spoken to a few and who want to come but they have to work it out or
00:28:52.960
have the schedule we'd have priests here every day if it worked and but so far no
00:28:58.540
one's come when we were how far Winona 40 minutes away and Winona also 35 minutes
00:29:05.440
away we lived until a month ago in the two trailers and Bishop came and celebrated
00:29:11.800
mass and Bishop Athanasius Snyder came blessed our trailers celebrated mass so
00:29:18.220
we'll invite the bishop here and there are other priests who will come but at the
00:29:24.820
moment everybody's in their place it's not easy for them to come yeah it's a
00:29:29.080
distance and so you'd have this this priest would be probably your closest to one
00:29:33.280
in Gilmer Gilmer there's one in Sulphur Springs but he's not able to come and he
00:29:41.560
celebrates the Latin mass but he's not able to come so this is probably so far
00:29:46.280
that we found it there's a holy there's a Catholic Church five minutes away but we
00:29:55.780
haven't got in there yet and we don't know so let's if we can let's just walk
00:30:03.880
around to the back to that chapel again it's actually this way no I'm I'm the
00:30:11.840
same I'm a little mouse in a maze I'm just getting to know it we walked through
00:30:16.900
here and we can't even believe that it's ours how would you do that well we went
00:30:22.360
upstairs this staircase leads to it only an attic with a tremendous amount of
00:30:27.940
storage and we had some men go up there and to see what ceilings could be raised
00:30:33.220
and the ceilings that were lowered can be raised they said about seven feet which
00:30:38.680
we would love okay so that for the for what area particularly well what was going
00:30:46.720
to be is going to be a community was originally a chapel and we wanted high so
00:30:50.200
the chapel and the refectory even the hallway well these are good oh that
00:30:59.260
other hallway has lowered ceilings yeah and we would raise anything we can to
00:31:04.900
point to heaven yeah we would raise anything we can and all of this was left
00:31:11.860
here but we're gonna sell it all doesn't remind you of a CC a little bit
00:31:16.540
would you like to take it home but no no we're gonna sell all of it for
00:31:22.720
donations so we because we had every penny of this I thank God for you every
00:31:29.740
day has been taken care of but we're gonna need some money to do a lot of
00:31:34.120
construction so we'll sell a lot of the furniture and and all these beautiful
00:31:40.600
chandeliers and I don't know I have no idea what things are worth but we could
00:31:50.140
replace them yeah so looks more like a ballroom how do you feel ready in the
00:32:01.240
wedding feast sister Joan Marie sister Faustina Marie these two are sisters
00:32:10.120
about two hours oh really they we had their novitiate this morning oh they were
00:32:15.640
postulants this when they woke up and their sisters now wow sister Joan after
00:32:21.040
Joan of Arc Joan Marie and it's the best sister Joan Marie of the Holy Cross we have
00:32:26.440
titles and sister Faustina Marie of the merciful Savior so if I might ask what
00:32:33.060
happens then and so is that a ceremony or what is that how does that I can give
00:32:39.340
you a book it's a beautiful ceremony it's a beautiful we have somebody and our
00:32:44.820
visitor our discerner was that person who introduced them mother I have observed
00:32:51.040
their lives and I think we think they're fit to enter the novitiate so they enter
00:32:55.240
and I don't remember the whole thing you probably remember it more than me but
00:33:01.780
they expressed they want to give their lives to God and I give them an
00:33:06.880
exhortation a message that I write specifically for them and it includes a
00:33:14.980
foot washing and the cutting of their hair sister Faustina Marie was down to
00:33:23.260
there not quite down to there well both of them for that long and we cut their
00:33:29.740
hair and we ship their hair to their moms or dads or whoever which is it because they
00:33:35.260
give everything to God and then with each piece of the habit the tunic and do you
00:33:44.940
remember a sister I know I have to remember each one each piece I tell you
00:33:53.220
what would you get a booklet please it should be on my desk the tunic first then
00:34:01.620
the scapular and his yoga is easy his burden is light each piece reminds us of
00:34:11.260
our life in Christ the people say why should belt too long it's not it's a a
00:34:17.500
singture and it's for chastity the same Francis de Sales is one of our patrons and
00:34:25.900
he didn't allow any any physical penance because he said you have community
00:34:32.920
that's enough and he's right so okay all the lessons and all the antiphons and
00:34:41.200
postulance Neil and very reverend mother entrusting my weakness to the mercy of
00:34:50.260
Christ my ignorance to his wisdom and my future to his providence I ask you to
00:34:55.540
clothe me in the vesture of those who hold nothing dearer than Christ that I may
00:35:00.520
appear outwardly in the sight of angels and of men as an image of the church
00:35:05.500
virgin spouse and mother and as one whose heart belongs to the lamb alone in a
00:35:11.680
covenant of bridal love beautiful now these are specific to your order is that
00:35:15.460
right well to Benedictine in Italy no no it sounds like it's totally like
00:35:21.160
tailor-made for your order specifically well this was put together for me by a
00:35:27.780
Benedictine priest in Tulsa who was our first religious assistant and I got a
00:35:34.140
copy of the Benedictines of Gower a beautiful order it's almost word for
00:35:39.060
word really yeah it's almost word for word the whole thing I just this you can
00:35:43.920
have it oh man please that would be amazing yeah this is what I just read yeah
00:35:48.360
this part of it I thought for sure it was tailor-made to you because they asked you
00:35:51.600
to quote me in the vesture of those who know that I may appear outwardly in the sight of
00:35:56.760
angels and men that's right that's your whole that's the whole charism all right
00:36:00.780
there yeah right there okay yeah since since the habits were shortened when I
00:36:04.800
was 19 yeah and had nothing to do with me so I thought now we want to be signs to
00:36:11.220
God in the world that's beautiful beautiful well congratulations to both of you
00:36:16.200
yeah that's amazing it was very very wonderful it's an auspicious day for us to be here that's wonderful
00:36:20.760
yeah it's a very very special day and then for my having final vows tomorrow and if we can manage it
00:36:27.660
sister Gertrude will have her temporary vows in a month or so if we haven't talked to the bishop and
00:36:34.260
then normally it'd be five years before final but if it works out one year for her one year for final vows for
00:36:42.720
her because she's been here so long and she's yeah she's more faithful than I am she's wonderful benedictine
00:36:48.220
wow wow yeah I don't know what I would do without her I don't know because I'll just tell you this
00:36:55.680
sister Gertrude Marie I want to say it accurately runs the place I want to be accurate here
00:37:05.340
I know you ask this is okay that's okay I understand but she runs it she she's the furniture
00:37:14.040
the arrangement everything is hers because she's magnificent and all the shopping all the mayor
00:37:20.240
planning all the oversight of the sisters the kitchen all the work all the errands everything
00:37:26.400
is under sister the only thing I do is sit at my desk I said she does everything else and she is
00:37:33.840
structured and so because when sisters here we pray on time when she's not here the sisters come
00:37:40.920
mother we pray and I said oh sure why I'm a dreamer but she's fantastic I don't know what I do without
00:37:47.580
