00:03:19.360 Your Vulnerable People Project is a great name for the organization which you lead and founded,
00:03:24.620 because that's where your heart is.
00:03:26.120 In this situation, it's one of the most difficult things to talk about, because there's so much
00:03:31.680 flack from those, even Christians, even Catholics, who are supposed to be paying attention to their
00:03:37.920 own brothers and sisters in the Holy Land, but they aren't.
00:03:40.300 Yeah, John Henry, it's unbelievable.
00:03:41.740 You know, our organization now is over 25, almost 25 years old.
00:03:45.200 We, right now, VPP has security guards and has installed cameras in churches and synagogues
00:03:51.740 and mosques, protecting vulnerable communities facing ethnic cleansing and genocide, the Yazidi,
00:03:57.300 the Uyghur.
00:03:58.300 It's striking to me that I am actually being attacked for speaking up for truly the most powerless
00:04:06.200 people on the earth, the people of Gaza, specifically the Christians in Gaza, and that Christians,
00:04:13.820 I've been told to hush up, to zip it, that if I want to continue to advocate for vulnerable
00:04:21.280 communities that have any legitimacy or credibility, that I should, I'm confusing people.
00:04:26.480 I've been told, I quote unquote, I'm confusing people by sharing the truth about the persecution
00:04:31.940 of the Christians in Gaza, but of course, it's not just the Christians in Gaza.
00:04:36.500 Israel doesn't see Christians and Muslims.
00:04:39.440 They don't see church or mosque.
00:04:41.340 They see Palestinian.
00:04:43.020 They bomb churches.
00:04:44.260 They bomb mosques.
00:04:45.120 But the truth is, they bombed every church.

00:04:48.120 Porpheus was bombed twice this week.
00:04:51.280 And there's a young man who works for us.
00:04:53.600 His father died.
00:04:55.060 His sister was killed by the IDF, 18 years old.
00:04:57.620 And just this past week, his other sister was wounded when his church was bombed again,
00:05:03.200 and his cousin was wounded.
00:05:05.040 And I'm often called a liar, a propagandist for Hamas.
00:05:09.780 But the reality is, Ecclesiastes 4.1 has always inspired me, since even before I was a Christian,
00:05:16.420 it haunted me when I read it.
00:05:18.360 Solomon said, I look all over the world, and all I see is oppression.
00:05:22.300 And on the side of the oppressor is power.
00:05:26.400 And on the side of the oppressed, there is no one.
00:05:29.260 How haunting is this?
00:05:30.740 But of course, with the second person of the Trinity, with the mystical body of Christ,
00:05:35.180 things are different today than when Solomon said these words.
00:05:39.400 Now, when we look all over the world, we should see the mystical body of Christ.
00:05:43.080 We should see Christians standing with the Yazidi, that they're a pre-monotheistic community,
00:05:48.300 or the Uyghur, the ethnic minority, predominantly Muslim, suffering ethnic cleansing and genocide
00:05:54.220 in East Turkestan, Chinese-occupied East Turkestan.
00:05:58.680 But how much more so, when you think in that wonderful book by Fulton Sheen on the mystical
00:06:03.660 body of Christ, he says that the foundation of solidarity in the world, the foundation of
00:06:08.760 world order, is the solidarity of Christians around the world.
00:06:12.860 How shameful it is that people think that they can bully me, or that they've been bullied,
00:06:19.720 and they've been silenced, and they're afraid to speak up.
00:06:24.060 For the most vulnerable people in the world, the Palestinian families in Gaza, they're standing
00:06:29.540 up against multiple nuclear powers, the UK, the United States, Britain.
00:06:34.660 We've just sent billions of dollars of weapons for a community of less than several hundred
00:06:40.600 thousand adults.
00:06:42.280 And of course, Hamas is 40,000 fighters.
00:06:46.060 But we now know that there are over 40,000 dead civilians.
00:06:49.680 And the real numbers, there are probably around 30,000 dead children.
00:06:54.340 And the idea that I'm going to be silent, it's absurd.
00:06:58.400 I can't be silent.
00:06:59.500 I should close down my apostolate and cease everything I'm doing around the world, John Henry, if I
00:07:04.680 cannot advocate for the descendants of the apostles.
00:07:07.840 When we think of an axe in the upper room, there was Jew, there was Arab, there were Africans,
00:07:13.820 there were Asians, there were Romans, there were Greeks, their descendants we call Palestinians.
00:07:18.520 The church in Gaza, the churches in West Bank, these are literally the descendants of the first
00:07:24.060 century Christians.
00:07:25.280 How foolish it is to be silent and advocating for them.
00:07:29.240 It's unbelievable.
00:07:29.920 But I need people to understand, because you were there, because you interviewed these very
00:07:35.380 people, tell us the situation on the ground.
00:07:39.080 To be honest, people do not believe.
00:07:42.160 Good Christians, good Catholics, they do not believe it.
00:07:46.320 All they see is, no, this is Hamas.
00:07:48.900 This is an incredibly anti-Semitic group of Muslims who want to destroy Israel.
00:07:54.500 And all Israel's doing is defending itself.
00:07:57.560 It's the most civil way of going about it.
00:08:01.180 They're doing everything they can to protect the innocent.
00:08:04.540 This is what is believed.
00:08:06.300 And add to that, they believe that Israel is still the Israel that the scriptures talk about.
00:08:13.080 And they are God's chosen people.
00:08:15.460 And they are the ones who are to be protected.

00:08:31.380 So I will say, first of all, we are called to advocate and defend for vulnerable Jews.
00:08:35.980 We are called to stand with Jews facing ethnic cleansing and genocide, suffering violence

00:08:44.860 But my fear of being called an anti-Semite shouldn't silence me or shouldn't lead me to being
00:08:51.800 an anti-Arab bigot.
00:08:53.900 I'll tell you, John Henry, I want to address this point.
00:08:56.080 I want people to sort of do an examination of conscience.
00:09:01.200 You would think with the nature of my work, I would be the most humane, wonderful person,
00:09:06.380 free of bigotry.
00:09:07.460 But I'm not.
00:09:08.240 I'm a human.
00:09:08.880 I live within a culture, and I have been inculcated with prejudice.
00:09:14.400 It was striking to me when I was in Egypt, we'd set up a clandestine TV studio.

00:09:23.500 We were in Cairo trying to hide from Egyptian intelligence.
00:09:27.200 No government in the world is on the side of the Palestinians.
00:09:30.800 The Iranians don't care about Arab Sunnis.

00:09:35.260 They're using them to achieve their interests.
00:09:37.940 No one cares about the Palestinians.

00:09:42.440 In fact, I was shocked I wasn't arrested trying to leave the country.
00:09:45.420 But we're in this clandestine studio, and I'm interviewing Palestinians, Muslims and Christians.

00:10:00.000 She was telling her story about how when her kids graduated, she said to her husband,

00:10:05.200 And he said, honey, why don't you go get your master's and Ph.D.?

00:10:10.160 And in my head, I'm like, wait a second.
00:10:12.020 Muslims don't want their wives to be educated.
00:10:15.340 You know, then I would listen to the Palestinian Christian woman talk.
00:10:18.140 And I thought, so cosmopolitan and articulate.
00:10:22.360 I said, wow, I sound like Joe Biden talking about Barack Obama.
00:10:26.140 Joe Biden called.
00:10:27.240 He said that in 2008, he said that Barack Obama was so clean and articulate.
00:10:32.100 So I hear this.
00:10:33.620 And I thought, you know, wow, I am addled by prejudice against Arabs.

00:10:39.980 I have prejudice in my own heart.
00:10:42.140 I think of all of us have been addled by prejudice.
00:10:45.160 When you think of the past 30 years, I wrote an article saying that World War III has already
00:10:50.440 happened, and it happened across North Africa, through the Middle East, and into Central Asia.
00:10:54.900 Millions of civilians died, wars, civil wars, revolutions.
00:10:59.420 If you would have moved the wars that took place over the past 30 years to Europe, we would
00:11:03.460 have called it World War III.
00:11:04.660 And who fought in the Middle East and North Africa and in Central Asia?
00:11:10.400 It were the NATO countries.
00:11:11.500 It was the United States.
00:11:12.480 It was Germany.
00:11:13.140 It was Britain.
00:11:14.040 There we were, dropping a lot of bombs.
00:11:16.360 So there have been a lot of death, a lot of war, a lot of destruction.
00:11:19.440 But then we sit here, and we think they're so violent.
00:11:23.080 They're so uncivilized.
00:11:24.740 And then now you look at Israel.
00:11:27.160 You know, imagine if Russia behaved this way in Ukraine.
00:11:30.040 It was striking that a Russian missile landed in the hospital the same week Israel bombed
00:11:37.080 a hospital.
00:11:37.640 Now that's easy to do for Russia, because Israel bombs hospitals every week.
00:11:41.320 But it was, the world reacted with horror, and the headlines were, Russia bombs, barbaric
00:11:46.780 Russia bombs hospital.
00:11:48.660 And then for Israel, it was like, hospital bombed.
00:11:52.260 Didn't say who did it.
00:11:53.460 You know, it was the IDF flying American jets, dropping American bombs, all paid for
00:12:00.020 by American tax dollars.
00:12:01.880 And it's all quite horrifying.
00:12:03.720 So there's that reality that we are insensitive.
00:12:07.020 And you know, even me, John Henry, I will tell you, when I heard of the Israeli children
00:12:10.700 dying, the, I forget what the initial number was, it's been greatly reduced.
00:12:14.660 And now we know probably most of them died in Israel's response to the attacks.
00:12:19.300 But it was, I think I even reacted to that with more anger than when I heard the, you
00:12:26.060 know, when I hear the numbers from the Palestinians.
00:12:27.800 When we have prejudice, you know, it's a great opportunity to identify it and notice it and
00:12:33.040 be thoughtful of it.
00:12:33.920 It shouldn't, you know, we shouldn't hold prejudices.
00:12:36.300 I have seen conservative commentators tweeting out things like flatten Gaza.
00:12:41.920 They're literally calling for the genocide of the descendants of the first century Christians,
00:12:47.220 which is really unbelievable.
00:12:48.840 And a lot of that is because of, maybe we can get into this later, this bizarre, I don't
00:12:55.900 want to speak out of turn.
00:12:57.440 I don't know what the church thinks of Christian Zionism, if it's just a heresy.
00:13:00.900 But to me, it's an apostasy.
00:13:02.780 And why do I say Christian Zionism is apostasy?
00:13:06.120 Because it denies Christ.
00:13:08.520 It says that Christ wasn't enough, that Christ replaces the Torah, and Christ replaces the
00:13:17.260 promises to Abraham.
00:13:18.460 No, Christ fulfills every single promise is fulfilled in Christ, period.
00:13:26.620 That Christ came for the Jew first, and then the Gentile.
00:13:32.520 Jesus isn't the privileged path.

00:13:36.280 What is so strikingly beautiful about the Gospels, about the New Testament, when I read it as
00:13:43.100 an atheist, I was shocked at how humane, and dignified, and beautiful, and broad-minded
00:13:50.300 that there is no longer Jew and Gentile.
00:13:53.040 No, that in the upper room, you had Africans, Asians, Greeks, Romans, Jews, Arabs, together.
00:14:00.860 You had Jesus kneel down next to a woman caught in the act of adultery.

00:14:09.040 It is so bizarre, comes out of nowhere, that it has to be true.

00:15:05.040 At the founding of Israel, most Jews rejected the state of Israel and rejected political Zionism, and the most religious Jews still do today.
00:15:12.460 So one thing we should also guard ourselves, we don't want to have, and I'm sorry for this long rant, but we don't want to obviously inspire Jew hatred and anti-Semitism when we tell the truth about what the government of Israel is doing.
00:15:26.060 And we should even forgive those Israelis who are swept away in enthusiasms of violence, as maybe we all have been in our series of wars that we've had over the past 30 years.
00:15:33.900 And we've cheered on horrible things, our drone program, the shock and awe of the Iraq invasion, the sanctions on Iraq that killed tens of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi children that we seemed indifferent to.
00:15:45.980 So we would no more want to condemn Jews swept away, Israelis swept away by enthusiasms of violence.
00:15:55.060 Even more so, it's absurd to blame, you know, that young Jews in America should suffer hatred and violence because of what a government of the world is doing today.
00:16:04.920 But it's equally true that we shouldn't allow enthusiasms of violence and hatred and dehumanization against Arabs and against Muslims.

00:16:15.540 It's so accepted that you can't even identify.
00:16:18.380 It is so part of who we are that to point out anti-Arab hate is to upset people because they think it's justified, because they've been so inculcated in vicious prejudice.
00:16:31.280 But just put this in perspective, in 1948, I think the Muslim, the Christian population of Palestine was 11 percent.
00:16:39.580 In some places like Bethlehem, it was 72 percent.
00:16:42.360 And those churches had been there forever.

00:16:49.580 That makes no sense.

00:17:18.220 And I think the best way to do that is to throw oneself into the letters and into the gospel.

00:17:39.540 She, it's the first video I sent you.
00:17:42.000 She is just, you watch this video, her poise and her dignity.
00:17:46.640 She's just an exceptional young woman.
00:17:49.060 And her mother, her and her mother were beaten.
00:17:51.220 They had stun grenades thrown at them.
00:17:53.200 And settlers emboldened by IDF soldiers, whether they were off duty or on duty, who knows.
00:18:00.080 But they, they came in and they stole her home and they beat her up and they arrested her.
00:18:07.180 And this is a little video setting the stage.
00:18:10.300 So you can see that she is now out.
00:18:12.740 By God's grace, France gave her a passport.
00:18:15.220 And I think she's got her way to the West to do a speaking tour.

00:20:04.740 Well, then why are they destroying the roads in the West Bank?
00:20:09.280 Why did Benjamin Netanyahu go on Israeli television and put up a map with West Bank erased from the map?
00:20:16.560 It's because they are stealing the ancestral land from the oldest Christian community in the world.
00:20:24.460 And the church in the West is silent.
00:20:26.940 And the churches in the West is silent because in the Anglosphere specifically, where Zion, political Zionism began and not with Jews, but with Christians.

00:20:41.120 I don't, I don't want to get into the whole bizarreness of the heresy because it's so absurd, but they, they, you know, you'll hear Protestants say, these Christians should give up their land, that this belongs to the Jews.

00:22:17.320 Can we go to video number two, which is a Christian woman from Gaza telling her story.
00:22:24.800 Now, when you listen to this woman speak, it's just important that you remember that she is, she is a Christian.

00:22:35.500 She may be Orthodox, I believe.
00:22:38.000 But, but you're looking at a woman that, that's her ancestors walked with St. James.

00:22:49.380 You go back just 2,000 years ago, which isn't just that long ago.
00:22:53.480 Her family was the family of the apostles.
00:22:55.920 And just, let's listen to this poor woman speak.

00:23:00.720 The first one that I saw was a five months old and I couldn't, but like see my daughter in her.
