00:00:00.000 We have our values. Canada has its values. Let each of us stick to our values and not suppress
00:00:06.680 the other, simply because you have more money, I have less money, so you can play around with my
00:00:12.060 head, play around with my rules, play around with my policies, play around with my values,
00:00:17.580 and you think everything is okay. No, it can never be okay.
00:00:21.020 It's John Henry Weston for LifeSite News, and we are here on another frigid day right outside the
00:00:33.080 parliament buildings in Canada, the country which is pressuring all of Africa to accept the LGBT and 1.00
00:00:40.960 contraception and abortion agenda. And right here inside parliament is Lucy Akello, a parliamentarian 0.99
00:00:48.760 from Uganda, who is actually speaking to a committee of the Foreign Affairs and International
00:00:54.220 Development Department about sexual health and reproductive health for women globally. She's
00:01:01.160 here as one of five speakers to this committee, only two of whom we know are pro-life. We're going
00:01:07.540 to be speaking with her in just a minute. Stay tuned. Hello, LifeSite friends. Aren't you sick
00:01:14.560 of the cancel culture? Aren't you sick of the overlords at YouTube deciding what you'll be able
00:01:20.940 to see and what you won't? Are you sick of them dictating morality and your use of pronouns?
00:01:28.000 Well, we have had enough. With rampant attacks and continuous censorship we face here at LifeSite
00:01:34.700 News, we've decided to bite the bullet. We are taking video into our own hands, and we're playing on
00:01:40.520 our own terms rather than the whims of big tech. We have launched our own video platform. Now we have
00:01:46.400 the ability to showcase our important news and views without the risk of being banned and silenced.
00:01:52.960 Defenders of faith, life, family, and freedom can now speak freely at LifeSite News without
00:01:58.820 censorship from anti-life, anti-family, anti-faith, anti-freedom folks who seem to run all the big
00:02:05.520 tech companies. This, of course, takes tons of hard work and also your support. So we're in the midst of
00:02:13.820 our quarterly spring fundraising campaign, and we are in need of your support, both prayerful and
00:02:19.140 financial. These fundraising campaigns are vital to our survival and the ability to broadcast the truth
00:02:25.480 for free all around the world. So with the launch of our new video platform, we will be incurring many
00:02:32.360 new ongoing expenses due to the size and bandwidth of our servers, the personnel expenses to maintain
00:02:37.820 such a large system, and for new and improved features that we hope to add in the coming months.
00:02:44.080 We must raise our campaign goal of an absolute minimum of $500,000 to continue the fight to
00:02:50.300 withdraw completely from big tech and strengthen our ability to survive in the giant online world.
00:02:56.500 So please donate at the link in the description below. Thank you for your prayers,
00:03:00.820 your support, and your dedication. We are honored to be in this fight with you. May God bless you.
00:03:08.600 So it gives us great pleasure at LifeSite News to have with us one of the parliamentarians from Uganda,
00:03:15.040 Honorable Lucy Akello, who is asked to come here to speak to the parliamentary group
00:03:21.160 dealing with sexual health and reproductive freedom for women globally. Honorable Lucy,
00:03:26.780 welcome to the program, and thank you so much for representing the pro-life position here in
00:03:31.520 Canada. Thank you so much, John, for having me here. It is for me such a humbling experience to be
00:03:37.300 here to talk about something that really, really matters to me, and it's there to my heart.
00:03:42.760 So this was very interesting. You went to the committee meeting, and you were actually against a lot of
00:03:51.340 different people. Describe for us what happened. Well, I would describe it as being in the den of
00:03:58.260 the lion, and I told myself, just like Daniel, he was thrown in there. He got out unhurt. As you can
00:04:07.200 see, I am unhurt. I feel at peace. I didn't see the numbers which were against us. For me,
00:04:16.820 my focus was setting the position clearly as it is, without having to mince my words. And I did just
00:04:24.280 that. That's why I am at peace with my soul. So what did you feel they were encouraging you to do?
00:04:31.880 They were encouraging me to drop the idea of saying abortion is wrong, but rather to accept that abortion 0.75
00:04:46.920 is right, and also to accept that abortion is a right, and also to accept that it is a universal
00:04:55.360 right, and also to accept that even if Uganda has a legalized abortion, it is a universal right. Even
00:05:06.100 if Uganda is a sovereign state, just like Canada is a sovereign state, it doesn't matter, because human
00:05:12.640 rights are universal, and it knows no border. That is what they wanted me to believe, and they wanted me to
00:05:20.260 drop, and they wanted me to accept by hook or crook. But my stand is, and will always be, Uganda is a sovereign
00:05:30.700 nation, just like Canada is a sovereign nation. We have our values. Canada has its values. Let each of us
00:05:38.920 stick to our values, and not suppress the other, simply because you have more money, I have less money,
00:05:45.320 so you can play around with my head, play around with my rules, play around with my policies, play around
00:05:51.220 with my values, and you think everything is okay. No, it can never be okay.
00:06:01.280 Beautiful. Eight, one of the things is true. Somehow, Canada, America, Europe, although they talk
00:06:10.960 all about respecting traditions of all these groups and so on, in practice, they're not doing that.
00:06:18.980 They're trying to force their values onto Uganda, onto Kenya, onto a lot of Africa, and they don't care 0.98
00:06:28.380 that these are sovereign nations, that they have their own cultures. They're trying to force it
00:06:33.700 anyway. What's your comment on that? Yes, it is being done by hook or crew. Today, I was able
00:06:40.860 to give examples of how they are funding organizations to do everything possible, to disorganize our values
00:06:50.080 and traditions, our beliefs. Organizations such as Maristops, organizations such as Reproductive
00:06:59.000 Health Uganda, being heavily and heavily funded, as opposed to going to fund the real issues that affect
00:07:07.140 a common woman, a common woman and a poor girl in Africa. For example, my girl, my girl that I represent
00:07:15.080 in my constituency needs simple sanitary pads, sanitary towels to stay at school. She needs school fees 1.00
00:07:24.520 to stay at school. When she stays at school, she will stay away from unwanted pregnancies. But that's not a 0.93
00:07:32.660 priority to them. The priority is about as many children as possible, as many as possible. And I kept
00:07:40.320 asking myself the whole of last night. So these people are pushing for abortion. So how many abortions
00:07:46.380 would a young girl do? For example, a girl who they call it unwanted pregnancy. First of all, there's nothing
00:07:53.660 like unwanted pregnancy. Nothing. Every life is beautiful. Whether it is conceived out of rape,
00:08:01.320 whether it is conceived, what they call incest, whether it is life is life. How comes there are some
00:08:08.100 people who never have the opportunity to actually even get children? They have struggled, they have paid
00:08:14.660 money, but still they would never hear the cry of a child. So for me, life is beautiful. Life itself is a miracle.
00:08:22.320 And that is why I was also able to tell them today, in my culture, in my tradition, once a woman says I am pregnant, this
00:08:29.980 woman is treated with so much value and respect because they know she is carrying life. And should this child get out
00:08:38.980 through a miscarriage, this child, whether we know the sex or not, whether it is just the blood that comes out, will be
00:08:46.480 accorded a decent burial, just like you would accord a big person a burial.
00:08:52.140 How did you feel they accepted your message? You know, was it with, did they give you any kind of feedback that indicated where they were coming from?
00:09:02.140 Well, they are, they were all relying on research, research, research, research. Oh, you have the data. Oh, you have the statistics.
00:09:12.140 So how many abortions are, they call it, unsafe abortions were carried out in Uganda? How many deaths were happening?
00:09:19.380 But who is giving them these statistics? Which rural woman did they talk to to tell them that our priority is abortion? Who?
00:09:28.500 Which rural woman did they talk to to tell them that contraceptive is what we want? No. Where are they getting their data from?
00:09:36.720 They are saying WHO. They are saying UN. But where is the standard of UN in all this? So they are relying on research from Planned Parenthood. I mean, you're going to do a research with already a biased mind? Should I take that research?
00:09:58.060 Should I believe in your statistics? When I continuously engage, if I, actually, if I want to lose an election, if I went to my place and I told people, come and line up today, I am distributing contraceptives, that will mark my end of being in parliament.
00:10:20.600 Because no woman wants to control. They want to have their children. 1.00
00:10:27.600 They know, they acknowledge they are poor, but they want the government to create for them space to find their money to look after their children, not suppressing them not to have their children.
00:10:39.320 In any case, we have our natural ways of family planning. There's a time the first lady of Uganda introduced what we call the moon bead. Very natural, very safe, and that is what God wants us to do.
00:10:56.080 Not going into, not going into, for contraceptives, that first of all, is going to cause a lot of side effects. Terrible, terrible side effects.
00:11:06.660 For example, bleeding, excessive bleeding, obesity, high blood pressure. Name it, name it, name it.
00:11:14.560 Now, we have unprecedented numbers of cancer cases in Uganda among women.
00:11:24.440 Where is this coming from? Where are all these cancer cases coming from?
00:11:29.920 Especially, you know, cervical cancer. Where is it coming from?
00:11:34.260 These are questions that we have not answered.
00:11:36.480 What kind of pressures are you receiving from foreign governments, particularly Europe, America, Canada, to go down this road, to allow for abortion, to allow for contraception, to allow for the LGBT agenda?
00:11:48.480 What kind of pressures do you receive?
00:11:50.540 So now, what is the pressure, the kind of pressure that our government are going through is?
00:11:56.240 Allow for abortion? Allow for LGBTQ? 1.00
00:12:00.500 Or are we stop funding?
00:12:02.940 We stop funding you? We stop funding your government?
00:12:05.520 And I don't know how long our governments are going to hold on to these pressures.
00:12:14.400 So far, so good.
00:12:15.960 I see many of our government leaders standing firm and saying, you can do away with your funding.
00:12:21.860 We will stand on our own.
00:12:23.660 But I don't know how long they...
00:12:26.120 Because they merge this all as a human right, a fundamental human right.
00:12:31.340 And today I will tell them, who is defining this human right?
00:12:36.780 Is it the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights?
00:12:42.220 Or is it the human rights definition of now, of today, which has completely changed and brought on board all kinds of human rights which I don't even know?
00:12:53.920 So, it's a different definition altogether.
00:12:56.960 So the pressures are there, not just for governments, but even for members of parliament, even for leaders.
00:13:03.200 Because you are being threatened with sanctions.
00:13:06.080 You talk about these issues, know very well that the next time you come, they will scrutinize your document very well and they will find all reasons not to give you a visa.
00:13:17.000 Yes.
00:13:18.200 Not to give you a visa.
00:13:20.140 So for me, I have told them, I said, well, I have a running visa for Canada.
00:13:26.760 I want to see how they will stop me from coming to, if they are really being sincere, we will put this thing on the table, can we talk about it openly?
00:13:35.520 You have your disagreement, I have my disagreement.
00:13:37.880 You have your value, I have my value.
00:13:39.900 If your value is in abortion and all this, move ahead with it and leave us, let us be. 0.98
00:13:46.360 Let us be.
00:13:48.080 So, we still, we haven't reached that level and we are not about to reach that level because we feel it is not right.
00:13:53.840 So, it's not a matter of attaching everything to support.
00:14:01.540 If you sincerely see my poverty and you want to help me, it's the best thing for you to say before, before I help you, you must do this.
00:14:13.440 Must you put conditions for assistance?
00:14:16.720 Just a quick note before we return.

00:14:41.480 And now, back to the video.
00:14:42.900 One of the things that in America, because we've been dealing with abortion now for over 50 years, the aftermath, the harm that it causes so many women, not only the physical harm, the physical harm is there as well.
00:14:59.040 Sometimes, I mean, women, even America, where everything is safe, women still die from abortions. 1.00
00:15:05.060 But in addition to that, they have years and sometimes decades-long psychological trauma from this.
00:15:13.080 And a lot of them can't have children after an abortion. 1.00
00:15:16.700 So it always strikes me as strange that they're talking about women's rights and helping the women in Africa, and yet they want to bring there what has caused so much suffering here for women, which has harmed women's rights.
00:15:32.920 And when they move from abortion and contraception into the LGBT agenda, then it gets even more bizarre. 0.96
00:15:39.840 Because now, women in America, in Europe, in Canada, they're losing all the sports competitions to men.
00:15:49.820 But, oh no, we're not allowed to call them men.
00:15:51.980 They're supposed to be called women now. 1.00
00:15:53.560 But they're really men.
00:15:54.740 But yet, this is done in the name of, and with the backing of, many of the feminist groups. 0.98
00:16:03.020 So it's complete insanity that's harming women, yet done in the name of trying to help women.
00:16:11.640 Absolutely, John.
00:16:13.440 Absolutely.
00:16:15.340 This is exactly what I was even saying today. 0.95
00:16:18.520 It was ridiculous. 0.86
00:16:20.180 I heard from one of the ladies who was making a presentation and making a case for war, like a war situation. 1.00
00:16:31.340 And she's saying, you know, these women come to us and say, I am pregnant. 0.94
00:16:35.620 I was raped.
00:16:37.300 I don't want my husband to know.
00:16:38.980 Can you help me take away this?
00:16:40.920 And I said, this is just a temporary solution.
00:16:44.260 I mean, temporary solution.
00:16:46.120 So what happens when they continue to live together?
00:16:49.260 So you're encouraging a woman to lie to her husband for the rest of her life, something as significant as this, 0.99
00:17:00.380 instead of encouraging her to open up to the husband and say, you know what, this is what has happened.
00:17:06.820 Let's move, let's face this together as husband and wife.
00:17:10.680 If you are encouraging a woman to go for an abortion, to keep her marriage, is that marriage going to be built on truth? 0.64
00:17:21.460 No, that is just a temporary solution.
00:17:25.460 And the truth will definitely come out.
00:17:27.960 And it will even be worse.
00:17:29.540 That marriage will definitely scramble. 1.00
00:17:31.700 The same thing with abortion.
00:17:34.440 You cannot say that abortion, any abortion is safe. 1.00
00:17:39.180 There's no abortion which is safe. 1.00
00:17:41.700 Absolutely none.
00:17:42.960 Because the same procedure that you're giving, the so-called safe, is the same procedure this young girl is going to go through.
00:17:52.400 You see, we're only looking at the temporary shame that a girl or a woman goes through.
00:18:00.200 But we are not looking at the long-term shame and permanent damage that a woman goes through.
00:18:06.800 Can you imagine living with a trauma for the rest of your life?
00:18:13.020 For example, if you are born in this pregnancy and you cannot get any more children.
00:18:20.760 That remains for you forever.
00:18:23.800 And that has caused a lot of suicides among women. 1.00
00:18:29.000 You begin to imagine even a child crying.
00:18:31.640 Then you begin to say, oh, by this year, my baby would have been three years.
00:18:36.880 Then the next year, oh, he or she, maybe he, maybe she, would have been ten.
00:18:42.320 Maybe, you know.
00:18:43.680 And you live with this for the rest of your life.
00:18:46.160 And nobody, nobody is there.
00:18:48.700 Because after you have made that decision, they have convinced you to make that decision.
00:18:54.760 You are left alone.
00:18:56.840 To face it alone.
00:18:58.980 They are not there. 1.00
00:18:59.980 They are like rats.
00:19:03.480 When a rat comes at night and bites your feet, it blows.
00:19:09.780 It makes it feel sweet.
00:19:11.840 When you feel a bit of pain, it blows there.
00:19:14.400 And when it blows, it soothes.
00:19:17.540 You go back to sleep.
00:19:20.020 That's exactly what these abortionists do. 1.00
00:19:22.960 They will, they will, the pain is there, but they will blow air and soothe it so well.
00:19:29.720 That you will not feel the pain immediately.
00:19:33.220 But when you wake up, you're walking up to a wound in your foot and a lot of pain, a permanent damage on your foot.
00:19:43.080 The rat is nowhere to be seen.
00:19:45.580 You're on your own, suffering with the pain, suffering with the trauma, suffering with the scar, which nobody will remove apart from God.
00:19:57.600 That is, if you go to God sincerely and ask for forgiveness.
00:20:03.980 What can those of us who are pro-life in the West, in Europe, in America, in Canada, what can we do to help our brothers and sisters in Africa who are struggling so much against this pressure?
00:20:14.740 Help us with as much information as possible.
00:20:21.740 Stand with us.
00:20:24.680 Stand with us because we need you.
00:20:26.960 And this notion that everybody in the West is bad is not true.
00:20:35.880 I've always said we have so many good people in the West.
00:20:40.020 People like you are there who stand with us.
00:20:44.100 Give us information.
00:20:45.480 Do research.
00:20:46.140 And that, for me, matters a lot.
00:20:50.260 What we're doing here, I hear of life, a match for life here in Canada, in the U.S.
00:20:58.160 It keeps us strong.
00:21:00.340 We know we have a cause to fight for.
00:21:03.860 So for us, seeing what you're doing here keeps us alive and it gives us the energy to fight on and not to give up.
00:21:11.480 And for me, this humbles me because you can imagine you are in a very hostile environment, but you still stand tall and say, yes, I stand for this.
00:21:22.560 And for me, that is what matters.
00:21:23.840 That is the lesson I learned, that you may be alone, but you should never shy away from talking the truth in what is right.
00:21:34.600 That, for me, is the principle.
00:21:36.260 You may be alone, but speak for the truth.
00:21:39.520 Because the truth will always last and it stays long.
00:21:45.040 One thing that Africa has, that America has really lost, is the strength in its clergy and its bishops.
00:21:54.720 The bishops of Africa still speak with one voice on all of these hard, hard subjects.
00:22:02.940 In America, that's practically gone.
00:22:06.140 In Canada, that's been gone for a long time.
00:22:08.680 In Europe, it's been gone for decades.
00:22:12.200 When I was just there in Uganda, I spoke with the Archbishop of Kampala and in Kenya with the Bishop of Kattui.
00:22:19.540 Their strength in speaking out was shocking.
00:22:23.120 We in the West receive sort of their preaching and their teaching as something that's so new because we don't hear it here.
00:22:30.540 Do you have a message for the clergy, for religious leaders in America to encourage them to speak out once again?
00:22:38.800 Yes, my message to all the clergy in America and the U.S. and Europe, God has put you in that position to give guidance to the nation.
00:22:56.120 It doesn't matter what people call you, it doesn't matter how people perceive you, stick to the word of God and you will be vindicated.
00:23:07.920 Now more than ever, you need to speak out and defend life.
00:23:17.920 Now more than ever, you need to speak out and I want to repeat this now more than ever, you need to speak out even if you're alone.
00:23:28.380 And that is why we have matters and that is why we have people who have stood and have made a change.
00:23:37.740 Your voice matters.
00:23:40.900 Honourable Lucia Kello, thank you so very much for your witness, for speaking to us, for coming to Canada to give our parliamentarians a look at the reality of women's rights,
