00:00:00.080 Today on the Matt Wall Show, the left claims that there is a right-wing book-banning movement growing across the country, but they're lying as usual.
00:00:07.100 Look at the facts today.
00:00:08.020 Also, the CDC recommends that the COVID vaccine be added to your child's regular immunization schedule.
00:00:13.800 Elon Musk plans to fire the majority of Twitter employees.
00:00:17.120 I'm taking my What Is A Woman tour to Berkeley and expecting a very open and welcoming environment when I get there.
00:00:21.760 And in our daily cancellation, a man faces the internet outrage mob after suggesting that men and women experience depression differently.
00:00:28.960 The horror.
00:00:29.460 All of that and more today on the Matt Wall Show.
00:00:40.880 Here at The Daily Wire, we are committed to winning back the culture.
00:00:44.180 Losing is just not an option.
00:00:45.640 There's too much riding on it.
00:00:46.740 And part of that means supporting businesses whose values align with our own, which is why I'm very excited to tell you that we've teamed up with Black Rifle Coffee Company.
00:00:55.040 Many of you know about Black Rifle already.
00:00:57.020 It's a veteran-founded and operated coffee company who've made it their mission to hire 10,000 veterans, and they're well on their way.
00:01:03.320 One of the many laudable things Black Rifle does is they help service members successfully transition from the military into entrepreneurship.
00:01:09.660 And they're constantly giving back to veteran foundations as well as law enforcement and first responders.
00:01:14.300 By purchasing from Black Rifle Coffee Company, you are directly supporting the military service community.
00:01:19.460 What about the coffee itself?
00:01:20.420 Well, that's important, too.
00:01:21.480 And I can tell you it's bold, strong, and really good.
00:01:23.860 Black Rifle is very selective about where they source their coffee beans from.
00:01:26.960 And they're disciplined when it comes to ensuring the freshness of every bag.
00:01:30.560 So go to BlackRifleCoffee.com and use promo code Walsh for 10% off your first order or when you sign up for a new Coffee Club subscription.

00:01:49.720 Or when you sign up to become a Coffee Club member, Black Rifle Coffee, supporting veterans and America's Coffee.
00:01:56.520 Well, today is the day.
00:01:58.300 Shortly after we finish filming this episode, I'll be heading downtown to the Capitol Building here in Nashville for our rally to end child mutilation.
00:02:05.560 We are expecting a large turnout, perhaps a significant presence of counter-protesters also.
00:02:10.720 I don't know.
00:02:11.160 But we also can't know for sure exactly what to expect because there's never been a rally of this size and scale on this issue before,
00:02:19.140 as far as I know.
00:02:20.640 We are building a movement.
00:02:22.580 We're starting from the ground floor because someone has to do it.
00:02:26.640 And we've decided that it may as well be us.
00:02:29.360 Now, there is, of course, plenty of value in talking and delivering opinions, making arguments,
00:02:37.260 the kinds of things that we do here in conservative media every day.
00:02:41.680 But the problem is that in conservative media for so long, that's essentially all we have ever done.
00:02:45.920 And I'm just kind of tired of only talking.
00:02:49.880 It's time to take action.
00:02:51.340 And that's what we're going to do this afternoon.
00:02:53.740 The fight, of course, doesn't end today, just like it doesn't start today.
00:02:56.580 But this is the beginning of a necessary phase in the fight, the phase where we actually take to the street, show up in person,
00:03:04.520 the sort of thing that the left has been very good at doing for a long time and been doing it basically unopposed.
00:03:11.000 Because it's not enough to post about these sorts of things online.
00:03:14.500 We have to be a physical presence visible to the world.
00:03:18.520 Now, there's certainly a risk in that because the more you put yourself out there,
00:03:23.580 the more you open yourself up to all sorts of potential consequences.
00:03:27.240 But I'm more than ready to take the risk, and I hope you are too.
00:03:30.800 Although there isn't as much risk as you might think, not if we actually really mobilize,
00:03:35.780 because we have numbers on our side, to an enormous degree, in fact.
00:03:41.180 The Daily Wire has this report today.
00:03:42.960 Quote, a new poll found that nearly 80% of American voters believe that minors should be required to wait
00:03:49.040 until they are adults to pursue transgender procedures.
00:03:52.300 The national survey conducted by Convention of States Action in partnership with the Trafalgar Group
00:03:57.380 polled over 1,000 likely 2022 election voters in October
00:04:01.340 When asked if they believed underage minors should be required to wait until they're adults
00:04:05.140 to use puberty blockers and undergo permanent sex change procedures,
00:04:08.600 the poll found that 78.7% of all respondents comprising Democrats, Republicans, and nonpartisan affiliations
00:04:14.660 said that they should, in fact, wait.
00:04:17.320 The overwhelming majority of Republicans and independent voters
00:04:19.740 opposed gender change treatments for minors while Democrats were divided.
00:04:23.840 96.8% of Republican voters, 84.6% of independent voters,
00:04:28.560 and 53.2% of Democrats, which is still a majority,
00:04:32.500 said that minors should wait until they are adults to pursue medical transition.
00:04:37.860 Okay, so that's 80% of Americans in all.
00:04:40.840 You will not find 80% agreement on almost anything.
00:04:47.120 You probably can't find 80% of Americans who will agree that the sun rose this morning.
00:04:52.060 And on this subject, on protecting children from gender ideology,
00:04:57.820 indoctrination, mutilation, abuse, there is as close to unanimous consensus
00:05:02.700 as you will ever get on any issue.
00:05:06.100 And yet, these atrocities have happened all across the country.
00:05:10.120 They continue to happen.
00:05:11.560 The gender ideologues have been operating, again, nearly unopposed for years.
00:05:16.380 In spite of the fact that hundreds of millions of Americans actually do oppose them.
00:05:22.760 That's because the opposition doesn't mean anything and has no effect
00:05:26.140 if it's purely theoretical and abstract.
00:05:29.300 If we don't mobilize, if we don't convert it into action,
00:05:33.540 we remain powerless, even with an army of hundreds of millions behind us.
00:05:38.540 This is about actually using the power that we have.
00:05:41.500 There is an opportunity for a broad, vast, enormous, and even, yes, diverse coalition on this issue.
00:05:51.140 And there's also evidence that the coalition is already coming together.
00:05:53.640 Take what's happening in Dearborn, Michigan, for example.
00:05:55.860 Dearborn is traditionally a Democratic stronghold.
00:05:59.220 It's also a heavily Muslim area with Arab Americans comprising nearly about 50% of the city's population, I think.
00:06:05.420 Now, given historical voting habits,
00:06:07.160 it's not the kind of place where Democrats have had to worry about mass protest movements challenging them.
00:06:14.940 They don't have to worry about anyone challenging them from the right or even the left.
00:06:19.700 And yet that is exactly what's happened.
00:06:21.680 The Muslim community in Dearborn has mobilized,
00:06:24.420 showing up in huge numbers at school board meetings and at rallies
00:06:27.660 to oppose LGBT indoctrination in the school system there.
00:06:30.540 Now, this particular round of backlash was provoked by pornographic and sexually explicit LGBT propaganda,
00:06:38.520 which had been made available to children in the local school system.
00:06:41.440 One of the books at the center of the firestorm is called,
00:06:44.560 and you might have heard this title before because it's come up in other places at school board meetings,
00:06:48.900 but the book is called This Book is Gay.
00:06:51.240 And it contains not only the promotion of, but also the extremely graphic description of gay sex.
00:06:58.400 And the content is so graphic, it's so explicit,
00:07:03.080 it's so beyond the bounds of what could remotely be considered appropriate for children
00:07:06.840 that I can't read any of it to you or even describe it.
00:07:10.900 But I will tell you, it was more than enough to inspire the largely Muslim community to take action.
00:07:15.580 And at a rally a few days ago, one local father got up at the microphone
00:07:19.440 and made his case and made it, I think, quite powerfully.
00:07:22.480 Listen to this.
00:07:23.820 I just want to thank everybody for coming out.
00:07:25.720 My name is Hassan Shami.
00:07:26.660 I'm nothing but a concerned parent in Dearborn, Michigan.
00:07:31.840 Guys, we want to make something clear, okay?
00:07:34.900 We want to leave the politics out of this.
00:07:37.300 If you're on Facebook, all you see is fear-mongering political rhetoric
00:07:42.200 that this is book banning, censorship, homophobic.
00:07:46.060 All it is is protecting our children.
00:07:47.380 We as concerned parents in Dearborn are not tied to the left, to the right when it comes to this issue.
00:07:56.760 And we're not going to be used as pawns for any organization for their own agenda.
00:08:01.580 We're here to protect our children.
00:08:03.300 Do not fall for the political rhetoric on Facebook, on Instagram.
00:08:12.300 Do not fall for the trap because that's what they want.
00:08:14.360 They're trying to smear us.
00:08:15.600 They're trying to control the narrative.
00:08:17.320 They're trying to say this is homophobic.
00:08:18.700 Listen, there's a book.
00:08:21.020 There's a book that was banned.
00:08:22.740 It was called, This Book is Gay.
00:08:24.220 And I tell you, if the book was called, This Book is Straight, we're still going to go after it.
00:08:28.420 Because it's teaching kids, it's teaching kids how to go online and have sexual intercourse with others on the internet.
00:08:35.740 This is wrong.
00:08:37.620 You do not expose kids to sexually explicit material.
00:08:42.540 There's a, there's a poster right here to my right.
00:08:46.200 There's a poster right here to my right that I had them cover up.
00:08:49.340 I, as an adult and 33-year-old adult, told them cover it up because I'm embarrassed to look at this.
00:08:54.380 You think I want a 13-year-old to look at it?
00:08:56.320 This is ridiculous.
00:08:57.180 Any semi-decent human being, homosexual or heterosexual, knows when they look in the mirror that kids should not be exposed to this.
00:09:06.240 Stop trying to control the rhetoric.
00:09:07.840 Stop trying to make it as you guys are the victims because this has nothing to do with it.
00:09:12.020 We, as parents, who are raising our children, are responsible for our children.
00:09:16.640 Our schools will not indoctrinate our children.
00:09:19.120 The progressive dogma from the top down that has public schools in a chokehold will not indoctrinate our children.
00:09:27.740 Amen.
00:09:28.560 And it's as simple as that.
00:09:29.780 He's a father, doesn't want his children sexually indoctrinated in the school system.
00:09:35.600 That's it.
00:09:36.220 Of course, according to the left, this makes him literally Hitler, which, speaking of which, here's a liberal white woman at a school board meeting in Dearborn, trying to explain that the largely Muslim population that don't want their kids exposed to graphic gay sex are indeed just like Hitler.
00:09:55.460 I am not in favor of banning any books in Dearborn.
00:09:59.380 If parents do not want their children to read a book, they should not allow them to do that.
00:10:04.040 But to voice their views of one group of citizens on the rest of Dearborn doesn't work either.
00:10:09.300 This is what Hitler did.
00:10:10.640 And we all know how that worked out.
00:10:14.120 Oh, yeah, we know how that worked out.
00:10:17.000 First, you're preventing teachers from talking to sixth graders about anal sex.
00:10:22.180 Next thing you know, there's a Holocaust.
00:10:23.600 That's what we're supposed to believe anyway.
00:10:27.320 Of course, she says that she doesn't want the views of the anti-porn-for-children factions to be foisted on everybody else.
00:10:36.180 But she does want the views of the other side foisted.
00:10:39.700 In the end, this is a conflict of viewpoints.
00:10:43.460 One side says that children should be sexually indoctrinated in the school system.
00:10:47.940 The other side says that they should not.
00:10:50.020 Both are attempting to impose that point of view.
00:10:54.400 Okay, if you're involved in an issue on either side of it, you have a point of view that you are trying to get across.
00:11:00.360 You are advocating.
00:11:02.860 And it's up to each side to make the case for themselves.
00:11:06.720 Something that these groomers are unable to do, which is why they settle for wildly misrepresenting their opponents.
00:11:12.900 Indeed, the whole notion that parents are calling for book bans is ridiculous.
00:11:18.900 These are not book bans.
00:11:20.280 No school in the world, okay, contains every book ever published.
00:11:25.540 Schools can only catalog and assign and include in their curriculum a finite number of books.
00:11:30.840 Like, of all the books ever made, a small sliver of a percentage of those books will be in the school and will be part of the curriculum.
00:11:39.060 And so it's just a matter of deciding which books do we include.
00:11:43.240 Like, we can include .0001% of all books and all the rest are excluded.
00:11:49.600 That doesn't mean that the 99.999% have been, oh, man, they've been burned.
00:11:56.140 It's censorship.
00:11:58.520 No, the books that are not included haven't been banned.
00:12:01.740 They haven't been censored.
00:12:03.140 They've simply been judged irrelevant or inappropriate for the school.
00:12:07.520 Yesterday, Carla Hernandez, a running mate for Charlie Crist in Florida, posted a video where she goes through what she describes as a banned math book.
00:12:19.400 And she captions the video, today's chalk book talk deals with the ridiculous book banning happening in Florida.
00:12:25.040 Remember, knowledge is power and we should have the freedom to learn.
00:12:28.940 Now, I should note that the tweet currently up on her page is her second attempt to tweet this.
00:12:33.300 In the first tweet, which was quickly deleted, she misspelled the word knowledge, which is hilarious.
00:12:39.400 But that's not the biggest issue.
00:12:40.580 The biggest issue here is that she's just straight up lying about why this book was quote unquote banned, which again, it was not banned, just isn't being used in the school system.
00:12:49.400 But here's what she says.
00:12:50.360 Listen to this.
00:12:51.880 And good afternoon, everyone.
00:12:53.460 Welcome to this week's chalkboard talk today from the desk of Miss Hernandez.
00:12:58.460 Today, I want to talk about something that turned out to be a little bit controversial this past year with Governor Ron DeSantis.
00:13:03.760 It was the banning of books.
00:13:05.240 Did you know that Florida is the second state with the most banned books in the entire country?
00:13:13.100 Yes, what an awful statistic.
00:13:14.680 We are the second state, which means we are the ones that keep kids or people from having access to knowledge.
00:13:21.880 And we know that knowledge is power.
00:13:23.940 So I did a little bit of research, tried to figure out why math was controversial this year and why we banned math books.
00:13:30.960 Or not we, let me say why he did, why he banned math books.
00:13:34.040 So I got this math book.
00:13:35.180 It is a fifth grade math book in our public schools.
00:13:39.980 And I started to do some research.
00:13:41.840 As you will notice, we did a lot of notes.
00:13:44.700 There's a lot of controversy in this book.
00:13:47.860 Yes, the controversy is real.
00:13:50.340 So let me show you some examples of the controversy.
00:13:54.020 Example number one.
00:13:55.940 Juan gets $6 for his weekly allowance and spends $4.
00:13:59.260 His sister Tina gets $7.
00:14:01.380 Girls shouldn't make more money than Juan.
00:14:05.200 We know why this was banned.
00:14:06.900 Example number two.
00:14:09.020 Dan has a flower shop.
00:14:10.860 Boys, flower shop.
00:14:12.620 We're not doing that.
00:14:14.660 Okay, first of all, she can't even speak, let alone write.
00:14:18.680 So this is someone who probably should have spent more time reading textbooks herself.
00:14:23.660 Second state with the most banned books.
00:14:25.900 You mean it's the state with the second most banned books is what you're trying to say.
00:14:28.780 Even though, again, that's not true.
00:14:32.080 Everything else she says there is an enormous load of nonsense.
00:14:36.420 To be clear, she's simply making this up.
00:14:40.380 So they went through the book and they just invented reasons why it was banned.
00:14:48.260 Made them up out of whole cloth.
00:14:50.460 I guess it was probably a lot of fun.
00:14:51.620 They picked up the math book and they flipped through it.
00:14:54.000 And they found, and they took copious amounts of notes.
00:14:57.880 And they came up with fantasy scenarios and fantasy reasons why the right would be supposedly objecting to the book.
00:15:06.000 They're hoping that you're stupid enough to believe that Florida banned a math book because it depicts a man owning a flower shop.
00:15:14.460 Yeah, that's in the law, isn't it?
00:15:17.440 That's somewhere in the law.
00:15:18.600 Maybe that's in the don't say gay law, which doesn't exist either.
00:15:21.500 But since the law doesn't exist, I guess it could say anything.
00:15:26.500 Yeah, it's somewhere in there.
00:15:27.400 I've got to check.
00:15:28.220 Maybe it's on the third page.
00:15:29.520 It says that you're not allowed to mention men owning flower shops in any textbook.
00:15:35.000 Now, in reality, this math book and others like it were rejected from the curriculum because they include gratuitous political indoctrination, which has nothing to do with anything she just read there.
00:15:50.820 So here's one example.
00:15:51.640 I'm not sure if it's from the book that she's using because she doesn't tell us which book it is.
00:15:55.100 But this gives you an idea of the kind of thing that Florida is guarding against.
00:15:58.580 So as an NBC News report shows, one math book was rejected because it contained a chart which purports to measure racial prejudice by political identification, showing you which political identification is the most racist.
00:16:12.020 And I think you know where this is going to end.
00:16:13.840 The chart, of course, claims that conservatives are the most racially prejudiced.
00:16:17.400 Now, why does that disqualify the book?
00:16:20.200 Because it is a blatant attempt to smuggle partisan propaganda into a math lesson.
00:16:25.740 It's also not true.
00:16:27.280 It's false.
00:16:28.600 The only way that you can justify the claim that conservatives are more racially prejudiced than liberals is if you discount from the start all forms of anti-white racial prejudice.
00:16:40.360 The only way, because the left, especially in modern times, is wildly anti-white racist and it's fully mainstream and fully accepted.
00:16:51.540 And they also support policies, actual systemic discrimination against white people through the form of affirmative action and other, quote, diversity policies and that sort of thing.
00:17:03.340 So the only way that you can look at that and then still say that conservatives are more racially prejudiced is if you just declare from the start that all forms of anti-white prejudice don't count because it's not racist.
00:17:16.460 Of course, the book does have that view, does discount that because the left believes that white people, by definition, cannot be the victims of racism.
00:17:26.420 This belief is a core element of critical race theory.
00:17:29.840 Critical race theory then is in the book.
00:17:32.060 That's why Florida schools don't include the book in their curriculum.
00:17:46.020 The other side lies about the reasons because all they have are lies.
00:17:51.640 They are losing the argument and they know it.
00:17:55.460 That's what this all comes down to.
00:17:56.980 They're losing the argument in Florida.
00:17:58.600 They're losing it in Dearborn, Michigan.
00:17:59.900 They're losing it here in Nashville.
00:18:03.620 And we're going to demonstrate that today.
00:18:06.560 Now let's get to our five headlines.
00:18:14.140 What do you think you consider to be your family's values?
00:18:18.080 Faith, church on Sunday, does your family believe in serving?
00:18:22.600 Did you vaccinate your kids or did you say, hell no?
00:18:27.100 How does your family define men and women?

00:18:31.780 Your children look to you to define their values and their perspectives of the world.
00:18:35.240 But what if you weren't here to do that for them, to help in that way?
00:18:38.960 In the event that you die, you will ensure the values that you hold dear are upheld by your kids.

00:19:18.820 No excuses.
00:19:19.820 Get it done.
00:19:21.520 All right.
00:19:21.940 Let's begin with this news from Politico.
00:19:25.120 Headline, CDC advisors recommend adding COVID shots to routine immunization schedules for kids and adults.
00:19:32.380 The CDC's independent vaccine advisors voted 15 to 0.
00:19:36.760 Big surprise there.
00:19:37.820 Thursday to add most COVID-19 vaccines offered in the U.S. to the childhood, adolescent, and adult immunization schedules.
00:19:43.980 The immunization schedules, which are updated every fall before going into effect the following year,
00:19:48.740 consolidate all the CDC's vaccine recommendations into one document for states that use them as guidance for school entry requirements and busy physicians.
00:19:56.720 The additions, formalized recommendations.
00:20:00.040 That's an interesting qualifier, actually.
00:20:03.040 There are guidance for school requirements and busy physicians.
00:20:07.460 Why do you include busy?
00:20:09.000 What does the effect that the physicians are busy?
00:20:11.320 What does that have to do with any?
00:20:12.280 How does that relate?
00:20:13.460 How is that relevant to the recommended immunization schedule?
00:20:19.480 Well, I know how it relates.
00:20:20.720 What they're saying is that, well, physicians, they don't have time to look at people on a case-by-case basis.
00:20:26.500 They don't have time to consider what you actually need medically.
00:20:30.160 And so they need just broad strokes.
00:20:33.020 And they're going to give the same shots and the same drugs to everybody.
00:20:36.320 That's what they're saying.
00:20:37.120 Anyway, the additions, formalized recommendations the CDC has already made on COVID vaccination in individuals ages six months and older for shots that the FDA has approved or has authorized for emergency use.
00:20:49.260 COVID vaccine inclusion on the schedules don't constitute mandates, particularly for school children, which are the purview of states, localities, or jurisdictions, depending on local laws.
00:20:57.120 Still, the committee's vote sparked controversy and debate on social media about what the additions mean for vaccine requirements.
00:21:02.600 Oh, Tucker Carlson asserted that, that's his claim.
00:21:11.960 Well, he may have asserted it, but that's because Tucker Carlson, unlike many of his critics, has a brain, and he's able to observe things.
00:21:22.600 And so he has noticed that when the CDC recommends something, it almost immediately becomes a mandate in many different states and localities.
00:21:33.820 That's how the pipeline works.
00:21:36.600 Yeah, the CDC can't itself mandate anything, but once they have their recommendations, it becomes a mandate.
00:21:43.860 That's not speculation.
00:21:45.440 That's not a theory.
00:21:46.460 He's not looking in a crystal ball.
00:21:48.760 All you have to do is look at recent history to know that's the case.
00:21:52.540 So pretty soon this will become a mandate for entry into schools and so on.
00:21:57.000 Fortunately, my kids don't go to public school, so I don't have to worry about that, because when it comes to giving my kids the COVID vaccine, my answer has not changed.
00:22:03.140 And my answer, in summary, is that you can go to hell kindly.
00:22:07.080 No offense, I mean that in the plightest way, but you can still go to hell.
00:22:11.720 You know, here's the thing.
00:22:12.820 My kids have had COVID, I think like a dozen times probably.
00:22:18.080 I mean, who really knows, because we don't generally test for it, but they get COVID symptoms, otherwise known as a cold, you know, otherwise known as cold symptoms.
00:22:26.860 And they have the sniffles, and then they're fine.
00:22:31.320 And that's it.
00:22:32.680 And we go about our lives.
00:22:35.900 You know, vaccinate for that.
00:22:39.400 You know, recommend, which turns into a mandate for a vaccine against the sniffles for kids, which is all it has ever been from the very beginning.
00:22:50.160 So one of the few things that we knew about COVID from the very beginning, and that has remained unchanged, is that this has very little impact on kids.
00:23:03.840 And yet there are still parents that are lining up to put these drugs into their kids.
00:23:08.620 It's unconscionable.
00:23:09.980 This is from YAF.
00:23:11.580 It says, members of the University of Alabama's Generation Action Chapter are planning to protest Matt Walsh's upcoming What is a Woman screening event on campus, hosted by the University's Young Americans for a Freedom Chapter.
00:23:23.680 Ashley Whitmire, president of the Planned Parenthood-sponsored student organization, wrote in a group chat,
00:23:28.740 I know many of you are disheartened and angry about Matt Walsh's visit to campus, as we are on the executive.
00:23:34.800 We have been in touch with other like-minded orgs, and together we are organizing a protest.
00:23:38.720 Members of the YAF chapter caught several leftist vandals splashing water on one of their sidewalk chalk event announcements, and then other things as well.
00:23:48.100 And they're calling.
00:23:48.420 So it's the same story.
00:23:50.480 They're calling for the university to put a stop to the talk and all that.
00:23:55.260 I bring this up because, well, a couple of reasons.
00:23:58.480 One is that we were just talking about banning and censorship and all of that.
00:24:03.380 And as I explained, and we have to continue explaining, what we're talking about doing, or what's being advocated for in the school systems in Dearborn and elsewhere, is not a book ban.
00:24:18.000 Except, unless you want to say that, again, 99.999% of all books ever written are banned, quote unquote, in every school in the world.
00:24:27.160 Because they can't all be included.
00:24:31.300 You know, in Florida, the NBC report said that, I don't know, they said something like, I forget what the exact number was, but, I don't know, 60 or 70 out of a potential 150 plus math books have been, quote, banned, otherwise known as rejected.
00:24:46.860 But, are we going to have 150 math textbooks?
00:24:51.780 We're going to have 150 different math curriculums circulating out there?
00:24:56.360 No, you have to select a few.
00:24:58.220 There can only be so many that are in the school system.
00:25:02.880 And you're going to have standards by which you select it.
00:25:05.140 It's just, this is really a question, the debate is really, what should the standard be?
00:25:09.720 It's not whether there should be one.
00:25:11.220 What is the standard?
00:25:12.200 What are you looking for in a textbook?
00:25:14.700 So anyway, that's not a ban.
00:25:16.860 But the people that are using that word, they, of course, are strong advocates for actual bans.
00:25:23.600 For example, every college campus that I go to, they want to ban me from the campus.
00:25:28.800 And very often they fail at doing it, but that's what they want to do.
00:25:31.300 They want me banned from the campus, not just me, any other conservative speaker.
00:25:34.140 They want us banned, not allowed.
00:25:36.580 And they'll use that word, actually.
00:25:39.500 They're not just trying to ban books, they're trying to ban people.
00:25:44.200 Banning and censorship.
00:25:45.000 They want to, you know, where do you find that in our culture?
00:25:49.140 You find that in social media.
00:25:52.220 People with opposing views, they want them banned from social media platforms, deplatformed.
00:25:57.420 That's what banning and censorship looks like.
00:25:59.300 Speaking of leftist students being upset, this is also a good time to announce, as I announced yesterday on Twitter, very excited that I can finally make it official that on November 17th, as our What is a Woman college tour continues, I will be going to Berkeley.
00:26:17.300 So we will be screening the film, and I'll be speaking at Berkeley, and I'm looking forward to that.
00:26:25.440 If, you know, this assumes that the university will, there's obviously already, there already is, and it's going to ramp up in the coming weeks, but there's going to be a strong push by the students there at Berkeley to convince the university to shut us down.
00:26:40.840 I hope the university stands strong.
00:26:43.440 I can't claim that I'm necessarily confident they will, but if they withstand that pressure, then we will be at Berkeley on November 17th showing the film, and I'll be talking.
00:26:55.400 And why are we going to Berkeley?
00:26:57.520 Well, I mean, are we going there because it'll be hilarious to see the epic, freak-out, meltdown, temper tantrum?
00:27:07.580 Yeah, that is part of it.
00:27:08.720 I can't deny that that's part of my motivation.
00:27:11.740 I do enjoy that.
00:27:14.040 But it's also just on principle.
00:27:17.140 You know, because we said we're going to Berkeley, and I've heard from other conservatives say,
00:27:19.560 hey, why are you going there?
00:27:20.700 Are you sure about that?
00:27:22.020 You sure you want to go to Berkeley?
00:27:23.820 Don't you know what they do when conservatives show up there?
00:27:27.520 Yeah, that's all the more reason why I want to go, just in principle.
00:27:32.440 There should not be any American university.
00:27:37.600 I don't care how far left it is.
00:27:39.360 I don't care if it is Berkeley.
00:27:40.400 There should not be any American university that is insulated from not even just opposing viewpoints, but the truth.
00:27:49.680 As I'm always emphasizing, the students that try to shut down our talks, they are not merely shutting down opposing viewpoints.
00:27:56.380 They are doing that.
00:27:57.520 But more to the point, they're shutting down the truth, because what we are talking about, what I am there to talk about, are basic, fundamental, scientific truths about life.
00:28:08.500 And there should not be, I just reject the notion that there is or ought to be any university in the country, supposedly an institution of higher learning that is insulated from the truth, where you can't go on the campus and speak basic truths.
00:28:24.440 I reject that.
00:28:25.580 And so if you tell me that, well, you know, you can say these things on these places, but you can't go to that university and speak those truths.
00:28:31.900 When you tell me that, then I'm going to say, well, that's exactly where I'm going.
00:28:35.060 All right.
00:28:38.820 This is from The Daily Wire.
00:28:40.320 It says, billionaire Elon Musk will reportedly gut Twitter with massive cuts when he takes over, getting rid of the overwhelming majority of the company.
00:28:47.760 The Washington Post reported that Musk told prospective investors that he plans to get rid of nearly 75 percent of Twitter's 7,500 workers, whittling the company down to a skeleton staff of just over 2,000.
00:28:57.060 The report said that even if Musk's acquisition of Twitter somehow does not go through, large cuts are still expected as the current people running the company plan to get rid of roughly 25 percent of the company's staff.
00:29:10.840 So they were already planning on making big cuts of 25 percent.
00:29:14.920 Elon Musk is saying, let's triple that and get rid of 75 percent.
00:29:18.400 The report said that the plan cuts by Twitter's executives helped to explain why the company wanted to sell to Musk once he made the offer.
00:29:23.920 The social media platform have been fighting Musk in court over his attempt to cancel the previous buy.
00:29:28.200 So we know about all that.
00:29:29.460 So 75 percent is what Elon Musk supposedly is planning to cut.
00:29:35.580 I think this is great news.
00:29:37.260 I don't generally make a habit of celebrating job loss unless it's at Twitter or if it's at like Planned Parenthood or if it's anywhere else in big tech or if it's in the federal government.
00:29:50.940 So maybe I do make a habit of celebrating job loss.
00:29:55.000 But anyway, this is great news because primarily because absolutely gutting the staff is the only real way to make the woke censorship and all of that go away.
00:30:07.500 And this is one of the reasons why the media, when they're reporting on this, they're panicking over it because, well, there's not going to be enough.
00:30:12.660 There's going to be quote unquote misinformation and hate speech all over Twitter.
00:30:16.060 There's not going to be enough people there to put out all these fires.
00:30:18.220 Yeah, that's exactly the point.
00:30:21.160 You know, I've already declared my intention, which I still intend on this, my intention to go on a misgendering spree.
00:30:29.580 It's going to be a misgendering massacre once Elon Musk takes over.
00:30:33.340 I'll just be misgendering everyone all the time and it'll be great.
00:30:38.720 But that also assumes that the old regime is actually cleared out.
00:30:42.980 Because if it's not, if Elon Musk takes over, but then almost everyone else stays in place beneath him, then there's no actual reason to think that anything changes.
00:30:52.780 And one thing that we know is that it's very hard to change a fundamentally left-wing institution, even from the top.
00:31:04.080 Donald Trump discovered that.
00:31:05.980 And the fundamentally left-wing institution in his case was the federal government.
00:31:09.720 But it's very hard to do.
00:31:10.720 And the more people that there are, the bigger the bureaucracy, the more difficult it is.
00:31:15.860 So the only way is to go in there and just clean the place out, which fortunately looks like that's what he is planning to do.
00:31:25.020 All right, this is from the Daily Mail.
00:31:27.540 A hospital banned a sex assault victim from having an operation after she asked for an all-female nursing care because of safety concerns over mixed facilities.
00:31:36.620 Now, the patient, a feminist retired lawyer that is the Daily Mail's referring to only as Emma, was told by London's Princess Grace Hospital that it had to protect staff from unacceptable distress.
00:31:52.280 So she had been due to have complex colorectal surgery at the premises on October 10th and had filled in a pre-admission form detailing her requirements.
00:32:00.540 Emma, who lives in North London, asked for single-sex accommodation and, as per her beliefs, did not wish to use pronouns or engage with such manifestations of gender ideology.
00:32:10.160 She told Mail Online,
00:32:11.440 I was not going to agree to fill in reams of hospital paperwork about my non-existent gender identity or give my pronouns to anyone.
00:32:18.360 The hospital is one of only a handful to use the Da Vinci robot, which can perform delicate and complex operations, and was selected for that reason.
00:32:28.120 But when she arrived on October 6th for her clinical pre-op assessment, which involved intimate procedures, what appeared to be a transgender woman, otherwise known as a man, in a blonde wig and makeup, opened the door and made eye contact with her.
00:32:39.960 The encounter prompted her to complain and to make an urgent extra request for all-female nursing care.
00:32:45.640 Emma told Mail Online,
00:32:46.480 I began to wonder if it was just a coincidence that this member of the staff with a gender identity had made their presence felt to me in such an inappropriate way during my first visit.
00:32:55.040 I began to suspect that I had been targeted because my patient records showed that I refused to use pronouns and wanted single-sex facilities, although I have no evidence of this.
00:33:03.940 Then I began to panic that men would be attending to my intimate care at the hospital while I was immobilized for an entire week following major surgery.
00:33:10.920 It was a slow-draining realization.
00:33:13.720 I felt sick.
00:33:14.640 Alarm bells were ringing in my head.
00:33:16.100 I cannot describe the fear that I felt.
00:33:17.740 I cannot rationalize it.
00:33:19.260 She wrote to HCA that evening, underlining her concerns and her beliefs relating to gender and women's rights.
00:33:24.740 Emma cited the landmark case involving Maya Forstater, which said gender-critical beliefs were protected under the Equality Act and worthy of respect.
00:33:32.820 Okay, so just to summarize from here, so she's at the hospital for this, as they put it, intimate procedure, and where she's going to be very, you know, sort of vulnerable.
00:33:46.340 And she made the request ahead of time that she only wants female staff, and all this was known ahead of time.
00:33:53.400 And it ends with the hospital telling her that, well, actually, we can't honor that request because, you know, if you want to get the surgery here, then we're going to include men in it who claim that they're women because they said it's distressing.
00:34:09.580 It's distressing to the man dressed as a woman if he's not allowed to be involved in your procedure.
00:34:16.080 It's distressing to him.
00:34:17.400 And so they end up canceling the procedure that she desperately needs.
00:34:23.220 Okay, this is not a cosmetic procedure.
00:34:24.660 This is a desperately needed medical procedure that they canceled because she didn't want, you know, she wanted her privacy respected.
00:34:34.760 What they told her was, you can have your privacy and your dignity, or you can get the necessary medical procedure, but you can't have all of those things.
00:34:42.000 This is another one of those cases where you see this, and the temptation, especially on the right, is to make the point, right, that the hospital, as we see so often, the hospital is putting the feelings of the trans person over the physical safety and physical well-being of a woman.
00:35:05.780 You know, they're putting feelings over safety and physical well-being, and that's true.
00:35:11.460 That is what they're doing.
00:35:12.260 That's the same thing that happens when they allow men into women's locker room.
00:35:15.240 We see that all over the place.
00:35:18.180 But when we make this argument, it doesn't sink in on the left, and the reason it doesn't sink in is because before you can even make that argument, you first have to explain why physical safety and physical well-being are more important than feelings because that's not how they see it.
00:35:33.720 I mean, they really believe that the most important thing in life are your feelings, and that is, in fact, more important even than your own physical safety.
00:35:43.360 That's like the only reason that you exist is for your feelings.
00:35:47.380 The only reason that anyone else in the world exists is to affirm and validate your feelings and make you feel better about yourself.
00:35:52.160 That's the way they see it, which is insane and twisted and upside down.
00:35:56.160 But it's one of the reasons why sometimes I think that the better argument here, which by all rights is a worse argument, but kind of arguing on their terms a little bit, using their terms against them.
00:36:11.140 Okay, let's take physical safety out of it then, even though that's obviously more important than feelings.
00:36:15.540 But okay, let's put that aside.
00:36:16.640 So then, okay, we have a competition of feelings then.
00:36:22.320 So it's the feeling of this guy, he's going to be distressed if he's not allowed to be involved, versus the feelings of the woman.
00:36:32.680 She'll be distressed if he is involved.
00:36:34.380 So if feelings are primary, which I'm not admitting or agreeing that they are, but according to you they are, so we've got the male's feelings versus the female's feelings.
00:36:48.360 Whose feelings come first?
00:36:52.540 Well, obviously they say that the male's feelings come first, but we should force them to say that.
00:36:57.200 Force them to admit that.
00:36:58.200 What you are saying is that this biological male, his feelings come before the feelings of this woman.
00:37:04.380 Or any woman, indeed.
00:37:06.500 All right, we told you a few days ago about the bar in Oregon that is planning to feature a child drag queen.
00:37:14.620 And we also told you about this child's groomers.
00:37:17.160 Her, and it is apparently a her, this is a girl dressed like a drag queen dancing for money at bars.
00:37:23.400 So we told you about all that.
00:37:24.720 Well, now we've got an update from Andy Ngo.
00:37:26.320 He says, Old Nick's Pub released a statement from friends and family of the child drag queen.
00:37:34.260 It contains falsehoods about the report, one of the reporters who worked on this story along with Andy Ngo.
00:37:39.580 It says that she released the name of the child.
00:37:41.620 She did not.
00:37:42.300 Statement says that she's in a relationship with a proud boy, and this is also false.
00:37:46.800 And here's a little bit of what the statement says.
00:37:48.220 It says, thanks to a woman known on Twitter as Honey Badger Mom, who also felt the need to make assumptions about the situation and release the name of an 11-year-old child to millions online,
00:37:57.780 we, Vanellope's family and friends, have decided that it's time to lay the rumors to rest and present the facts in regard to the relationship between Vanellope and Kelsey Meta Boren.
00:38:06.980 We realized that we should have made one earlier in the week, but taking care of Vanellope has been our priority, right?
00:38:12.900 They're taking care of the child, Vanellope is the stage name.
00:38:16.760 Taking care of her is their priority, which is why they're putting her up on stage at bars to dance for money in a drag outfit.
00:38:21.960 V was made a victim of doxing by Mrs. Honey Badger Mom, who was married to a well-known proud boy, which caused her to be unable to attend school the entire week due to safety concerns,
00:38:34.520 causing serious stress, trauma, and anxiety for the child and family.
00:38:38.500 Guarding the relationship between Vanellope and a woman known as Kelsey Meta Boren, there, in fact, was no relationship beyond a professional one.
00:38:47.020 Meta Boren only interacted with V a total of maybe four or five times in professional settings for venues and charity events.
00:38:53.680 Meta Boren was not a family friend, nor was she ever a mentor for V in the drag world.
00:38:59.520 And then it goes on from there, but that's the excuse that they're offering.
00:39:03.100 And I don't doubt, by the way, that this child is traumatized and all that.
00:39:06.500 I don't doubt that for a second.
00:39:08.720 But it's you, the, quote, friends and family, that have caused this trauma.
00:39:11.820 And I was also thinking about, just again, because I wasn't sure about this when we first talked about the story.
00:39:17.840 It wasn't clear what the actual genders were, but now it does seem clear that the child is a girl.
00:39:25.120 And that's, in a way, you're tempted to say it's almost worse.
00:39:30.320 Now, it's not worse.
00:39:31.280 They're equally horrific, whether it's a boy or girl being put in this environment.
00:39:35.120 It's equally horrific, but it's horrifying in a different sort of way when it's a girl.
00:39:41.000 Because when they dress a boy up like a drag queen and they have him dance around, it's predatory, it's sick, it's wrong, it's evil, it's abusive.
00:39:50.480 All the adults involved should be rounded up, put in handcuffs, frog marched to prison, and kept there for decades.
00:39:58.860 All that is the case.
00:40:00.120 But they have this excuse, you know, where they say, well, no, this is about diversity and expression and breaking gender barriers and whatever.
00:40:10.380 Those are horrible excuses, not remotely convincing or acceptable.
00:40:15.960 But I guess my question is, what even is the excuse for having a girl do this?
00:40:19.800 How do you, how do you, your explanation for having a boy do it is insane.
00:40:25.420 But what is your explanation for having a girl do it?
00:40:28.100 This is just, it's just, it's simply straight up burlesque.
00:40:33.280 It's just like, it's a, it's a really kind of straightforward burlesque performance by like a 10-year-old girl at a bar with people throwing money at her.
00:40:43.720 And this is what, this is what is happening.
00:40:51.240 Somehow cloaked, you know, it's, it's under this umbrella of LGBT expression.
00:40:56.660 It's like, it's got nothing even to do with that.
00:40:59.360 And if it did, that still obviously wouldn't make it okay.
00:41:01.360 But it's, it's like not, it's, it just defies, it defies explanation.
00:41:07.820 And there is no real explanation they can give for any of this because, because if they were to be honest about it, you know, what they're doing is they're sexualizing kids and they're doing it on purpose.
00:41:16.120 And that's, of course, what the intention is.
00:41:18.340 All right, let's get now to the comment section.
00:41:20.080 You know, chain stores, they have different price tiers for professional mechanics and do-it-yourselfers.
00:41:39.180 But the good thing about rockauto.com is the prices are the same for everybody and they're reliably low for everybody.
00:41:44.680 Rockauto.com always offers the lowest prices possible rather than changing prices based on what they think the market will bear like airlines do.
00:41:52.100 Rockauto.com is a family-owned business serving auto parts customers online for 20 years.
00:41:55.980 Go to rockauto.com for auto and body parts from hundreds of manufacturers.
00:42:00.700 They have everything you need from engine control modules, brake parts, tail lamps, motor oil, even new carpet.
00:42:05.140 It's all there.
00:42:06.200 Whether this is for your classic or your daily driver, you can get everything you need with just a few easy clicks delivered straight to your door.
00:42:11.900 The rockauto.com catalog is very easy to navigate.
00:42:14.540 Best of all, most important thing to me is that the prices at rockauto.com are always reliably low, again, for everybody.
00:42:21.280 Amazing selection, reliably low prices, all the parts your car will ever need at rockauto.com.
00:42:26.480 So go to rockauto.com right now.
00:42:27.940 See all the parts available for your car or truck, rockauto.com, and be sure to write Walsh in their how-did-you-hear-about-us box so they know that I sent you.
00:42:36.260 Noah Hecker says,
00:42:37.640 Hearing Matt read the description of a weeb warms my cold heart.
00:42:41.900 Well, there's not a lot of heartwarming moments on this show, I don't think, so I'm glad that I could provide that for you.
00:42:45.800 Zimmer Handcrafted says,
00:42:47.360 Matt didn't even mention the suggestion to put birth control in the water from the Jaff memo.
00:42:51.860 Yeah, I mean, there's a whole lot more in the Jaff memo that we talked about yesterday to start the show.
00:42:55.420 And just go online and Google Jaff memo, and you'll see, you can get a PDF of it, look at it yourself.
00:43:03.400 Yeah, there's a lot in there.
00:43:05.800 And, you know, there are, it's, I guess you decide what's more kind of terrifying.
00:43:13.260 It's the stuff that was suggested that didn't happen, like compulsory abortions for out-of-wedlock pregnancy, that has not happened yet.
00:43:22.420 So is that what's more terrifying, or all the stuff in there that they really did?
00:43:29.240 No, it's a judgment call either way.
00:43:30.640 But Professor Chimp says,
00:43:33.760 Matt, I just got to say you're completely correct that the countless planets in the known universe have a purpose for being there and undoubtedly harbor life.
00:43:41.040 Knowles needs to be canceled if he hasn't been already.
00:43:43.440 Well, of course he has been.
00:43:44.460 And there was just another, I'm glad you brought that up because I had the, I couldn't get to it in the five headlines,
00:43:49.000 but there was just another story in the Daily Wire reports.
00:43:54.300 Well, maybe I'll mention it now.
00:43:55.320 Now, it says various veteran pilots flying over the Pacific Ocean in August and September have claimed that they saw UFOs flying in circles above them in the night sky.
00:44:05.960 Okay?
00:44:07.020 So once again, you've got, these pilots are saying, we're seeing UFOs.
00:44:12.640 And you can see some of the footage.
00:44:13.760 And it's obviously crafts.
00:44:16.420 These are some kind of vehicles that are behaving in ways that seem to defy what human technology can do.
00:44:22.500 And I just don't buy, I know the explanation that most people go with is that, well, this is enemy technology, drones, or whatever.
00:44:30.480 I don't buy it.
00:44:32.200 Because for one thing, if we had an adversary here on Earth that had that kind of technology,
00:44:38.960 I think they'd be doing more by now than just like flying around in the sky and putting on a show for us.
00:44:45.620 So it is 100% confirmed to be aliens, without a question.
00:44:49.000 So, let's see.
00:44:54.740 Tyrannic Cubone says, I'm impressed.
00:44:56.780 It seems that Matt has refined his argument against pornography to include the very reason that I have given up for,
00:45:03.360 to include the very reason I have given for using it and has come up with a far better metaphor than I have.
00:45:08.900 I never said I thought pornography is better than relationship.
00:45:10.860 But if you have to choose between dying of starvation and dying of malnutrition, you'll choose the option that will buy you more time.
00:45:17.200 At least that's the calculation at first.
00:45:18.880 But like he said, you're also more inclined to give up pursuing a real relationship once you're no longer starving for one.
00:45:25.420 Right.
00:45:25.620 And that's exactly the point, is that it becomes, it ends up becoming a substitute for a real human relationship.
00:45:34.440 And it numbs, you know, without pornography, without all this, without the hyper-sexualization in the culture,
00:45:40.840 you know, even without all that, of course, as men and women too, but speaking about men,
00:45:47.300 you know, you have this desire, this natural desire for, as we said yesterday, for female companionship.
00:45:54.500 And historically, right, that's what drives you to find a woman, you get into a relationship, you marry her, you start a family.
00:46:00.060 You know, and that's the engine that gets you going in that direction.
00:46:03.960 But with pornography and all the sex everywhere, it numbs a man's instincts and his desires in that direction.
00:46:14.280 All right.
00:46:15.280 Kristen Pierce says, this whole conversation about reclining the seat on an airplane is being talked about as if seats on an airplane recline more than an inch.
00:46:23.680 Stephen Mackey says, you buy the seat, the seat reclines, you can recline the seat, end of story.
00:46:27.720 Timothy says, maybe Matt has forgotten what it's like to be a normal person who can't afford to fly in first class.
00:46:33.000 If the seat that I paid for in coach is a reclining seat, then I have the right to recline it.
00:46:37.600 Rudy says, if the seat allows you to recline it, then you can recline it.
00:46:41.020 Okay.
00:46:41.300 All of you, I understand.
00:46:43.200 Yes, you can.
00:46:44.140 You have the right to.
00:46:45.640 If I was in charge, you wouldn't even have the legal right.
00:46:47.860 But under the current regime, you do.
00:46:49.580 So you have the legal right to, you have the ability to.
00:46:51.960 Yeah, you can physically recline.
00:46:53.220 The seat doesn't mean you get okay.
00:46:54.120 Okay, I can physically make movements with my, I can move my arms around.
00:47:01.140 I can physically make a punching movement with my arm.
00:47:04.120 Does that make it acceptable then to go just walk up and punch you in the face?
00:47:08.220 And if I punch you in the face, can I say, well, what do you mean?
00:47:10.240 My arm moves like that.
00:47:11.820 If my arm can do that, then I should be able to do it.
00:47:15.720 And yes, it's exactly the same thing morally.
00:47:19.960 Clining your seat is like punching the person.
00:47:21.980 You know, it's not even punch, like spitting in their face, showing total disregard for them.
00:47:29.480 I guess I just have more, maybe in the end, I have more empathy and compassion.
00:47:35.680 Although I am, you know, it's like when you can sit in first class, then it's, this isn't as much of an issue.
00:47:41.320 So I do highly recommend that.
00:47:43.680 History at Headline says, what is the most important issue we're currently facing?
00:47:47.720 Well, I think we just, I think we just stumbled on it.
00:47:50.600 It's, should we recline our seats on the airplane?
00:47:54.540 And it's all the more urgent now, now that I see that, you know, so many people, there's so much, there's so much pro reclining propaganda out there that we have to battle.
00:48:03.300 Quick look at the weather.
00:48:04.500 Liberal tears have been falling all over the country.
00:48:07.200 In Illinois, in Florida, at my What Is a Woman campus tour.
00:48:10.240 Washington, D.C. at the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
00:48:12.240 And with Election Day on the horizon, we can expect 2022 to be one of the wettest years on record.
00:48:17.660 That's why, for the first time, we're making the iconic Daily Wire Leftist Tears Tumblr available to everybody so we can catch all these leftist tears.
00:48:25.240 Don't let any of them go to waste.
00:48:26.820 Forging the fires of the hottest takes, this magnificent vessel is now just $30.
00:48:31.780 Don't miss out on the heavy tear fall.
00:48:34.080 Go to dailywire.com slash tumblr and get your Leftist Tears Tumblr right now.
00:48:39.660 Now let's get to our daily cancellation.
00:48:42.240 Earlier in the month, a man named Adam Lane Smith tweeted his thoughts about depression.
00:48:51.580 Smith identifies himself as a retired psychotherapist turned attachment specialist.
00:48:56.000 Not really sure what an attachment specialist is exactly, but I know that this one had an interesting thought to share about depression.
00:49:02.200 He wrote, quote,
00:49:02.760 That's what he said.
00:49:14.360 Now, this take, as you might expect, provoked a fair amount of outrage and mockery.
00:49:19.140 So just a quick sampling of some of the replies.
00:49:21.500 Someone said, LMFAO.
00:49:23.060 This is the dumbest thing I've read all day.
00:49:25.020 Why are we gendering depression?
00:49:26.640 Like, I, a female, do not have depression because I don't feel loved.
00:49:30.820 I have depression because my brain doesn't make enough serotonin.
00:49:34.480 Quick note here.
00:49:35.100 No, that's not why you feel depressed.
00:49:36.580 The serotonin theory of depression has been exposed as a myth propagated by the pharmaceutical industry.
00:49:40.600 Just so you know.
00:49:41.420 Anyway, a few more responses.
00:49:42.840 Someone says, LMAO.
00:49:44.340 Because there's no way women feel depressed thanks to this misogynistic society that makes us powerless?
00:49:49.460 Of course.
00:49:50.720 Someone else posts, misogynistic post.
00:49:52.840 Love is universal.
00:49:53.860 Sure, maybe masculine and feminine energies could be more balanced.
00:49:56.460 But, like, what the F does gender have to do with strength or feeling loved?
00:49:59.720 We're all the same.
00:50:02.280 Now, these kinds of rebuttals were offered in even greater volume and with greater fury
00:50:05.500 after a Twitter account called Bad Medical Takes posted a screenshot inviting, you know, further mockery.
00:50:11.340 The funny thing about the Bad Medical Takes account is that most of the bad medical takes that they post
00:50:15.580 are actually pretty good medical takes.
00:50:17.580 And that's the case here.
00:50:19.220 So I want to talk more about the reaction to this guy's observation.
00:50:22.120 There are a few important points to be made there, I think.
00:50:25.040 But I want to start, I guess, by engaging with the actual point, which is what we should do.
00:50:28.800 So, is it true that literally all cases of male depression can be explained with the simple one-sentence summary that he offers?
00:50:38.060 Is it true that men don't need to feel loved at all and women don't need to feel powerful at all?
00:50:43.380 Is this statement a universal, 100% applicable diagnosis of every case of depression in the entire world?
00:50:49.800 No.
00:50:50.960 But I also don't think it was intended that way.
00:50:53.180 It seems to me that he's making a general observation meant to challenge current assumptions that people make
00:51:00.180 and to encourage us to think differently about a subject that mainstream wisdom often gets wildly wrong.
00:51:05.640 And to that end, there's quite a lot of value and insight here.
00:51:09.700 First, he's acknowledging something that is usually ignored in this conversation and in every other conversation,
00:51:15.720 which is that men and women are different.
00:51:18.300 And so they're going to experience depression differently, broadly speaking, because they are different.
00:51:23.840 Okay, we're all human beings.
00:51:25.540 We're all aware of our own existence and of our place within a broken world full of pain and suffering,
00:51:30.980 which means that there's going to be a lot of similarities in our experiences of depression
00:51:34.280 because that's where it all ultimately comes from.
00:51:36.240 But it's not going to be exactly the same because we have different emotional needs.
00:51:41.580 And the differences are they're a matter of degree, of kind of calibration.
00:51:45.200 So it's not that men have emotional needs that don't exist at all for women or vice versa,
00:51:51.540 but rather that our priorities tend to be different and we also tend to interpret our experiences differently.
00:51:57.620 So an example that's very relevant to the topic at hand.
00:52:00.000 If a woman is unhappy in her marriage, it's likely because at bottom she doesn't feel loved and appreciated.
00:52:08.660 If a man is unhappy, it's likely because at bottom he doesn't feel respected.
00:52:14.100 Now, it's not that she doesn't need respect or he doesn't need love.
00:52:16.960 It would maybe be more accurate to say that, you know, maybe you could say that the best way to love a man is to respect him
00:52:24.060 and the best way to respect a woman is to love her.
00:52:28.200 Now, you might say that this is kind of hair splitting because love and respect in this context are not two distinct and separable things.
00:52:34.240 They are dimensions of each other.
00:52:36.840 You can't really love someone if you don't respect them or respect them if you don't love them,
00:52:40.720 at least not in the context of a marriage.
00:52:42.240 And all that's true.
00:52:42.960 Yet it's also true that men are more likely to interpret their unhappy marriage in terms of its lack of respect
00:52:49.820 while women are more likely to interpret it in terms of a lack of love.
00:52:54.060 And they're both right in different ways.
00:52:56.680 As to depression, my primary issue with Smith's take is that he, I think he gives too much credit to the medical industry, actually.
00:53:03.480 He says that they assume that all depressed people, men and women, just need to feel loved.
00:53:07.440 I wish that was the mistake they made.
00:53:09.220 I think more often, the assumption is that everyone, men and women alike, simply need not love, but just the right prescription.
00:53:16.680 Love has nothing to do with it.
00:53:18.740 But he's largely right, I think, from a cultural perspective.
00:53:22.160 And all you have to do is listen to the things people say, to the mantras and bumper sticker slogans and all that,
00:53:27.820 that are supposed to make depressed people feel better.
00:53:30.040 You know, things like, it's okay to not be okay.
00:53:33.660 You are loved.
00:53:34.640 You are special.
00:53:35.400 All that sort of thing.
00:53:36.060 It's a very feminine-oriented message, though I suspect that these slogans don't do much for women either.
00:53:42.940 That first one, especially, it's okay to not be okay, projects powerlessness.
00:53:48.140 It encourages almost.
00:53:50.020 And this is a problem because, indeed, a great many men in our culture feel powerless.
00:53:54.640 They feel as though they have no control over their own lives.
00:53:57.840 This is one of the main reasons that so many men have dropped out of the dating pool, like we talked about yesterday.
00:54:02.780 They fear that marriage is a losing game.
00:54:04.840 I hear this all the time.
00:54:06.580 They think that marriage is rigged against men and that they'll become even more powerless and vulnerable than they already are if they get married.
00:54:14.120 Look also at, you know, in extreme cases, look at men who lash out violently,
00:54:18.540 whether we're talking about drug dealers on the street corner or school shooters or whatever.
00:54:23.120 The violent outburst is, among other things, a twisted, tragic way of exercising power and control.
00:54:29.820 Men who commit suicide are also, in their minds, taking control, exercising power over their own fate for what may feel to them to be the first and last time in their lives.
00:54:40.100 I said yesterday that men in this culture suffer from a lack of purpose and direction.
00:54:46.620 But powerlessness is a key factor here as well.
00:54:49.280 Because in order for a man to find his purpose, in order for him to decide on a direction and walk down it,
00:54:54.320 he first has to feel that he has the power to do so, that he has control, that he has agency over his own life.
00:54:59.720 You know, that stereotypical image of the depressed, jobless guy down in the basement playing video games all day.
00:55:06.160 This is an image of helplessness, of a man who feels he has no power over his life.
00:55:12.640 And this is where the actual message that he gets from the health care providers only makes things worse.
00:55:18.620 By treating depression and despair as purely medical issues, as a physical disease that can be cured with a drug,
00:55:25.300 we are encouraging the depressed person, whether male or female, to feel powerless.
00:55:31.460 Like, all they can do is take a pill and just hope that it saves them.
00:55:34.660 And anyone who encourages lifestyle changes, you know, more exercise, better diet,
00:55:39.520 anyone who suggests that if you're feeling down, maybe, you know, go outside and get some fresh air and some sunshine.
00:55:45.140 Do something with your free time, other than staring at glowing screens all day.
00:55:49.400 Anyone who gives the depressed person things that they can actively do to help their situation
00:55:54.300 is shouted down.
00:55:55.620 And that's because this powerlessness is intentionally fostered.
00:55:59.760 The medical industry has found it quite profitable to have a country full of powerless people
00:56:04.620 who think that their only hope for the future lies in a pill.
00:56:08.840 So there is indeed a lot of truth in what Smith has to say, despite how it was received.
00:56:13.500 In fact, it was received negatively because there was so much truth in it.
00:56:17.900 And that brings me to my final point.
00:56:20.380 Agree or disagree with his opinion?
00:56:22.160 It is at least an interesting thought, okay?
00:56:27.980 A great many thoughts are shared on the internet every day.
00:56:30.660 Millions and millions of thoughts.
00:56:32.640 And most of them are not remotely interesting.
00:56:35.960 And I don't care right now if they're right or wrong.
00:56:37.460 They're not interesting.
00:56:39.400 It's not that the thoughts are all wrong.
00:56:41.020 Many of them are, but that's not the point.
00:56:42.320 The point is that everyone is talking.
00:56:44.300 The chatter never stops.
00:56:45.420 And yet most of what's being said is boring, redundant, just simply uninteresting.
00:56:51.720 Lots of talk, very little insight.
00:56:54.920 That's at least in part because this is what happens to anyone who dares to say something interesting.
00:56:59.920 Like you go out on a limb and you kind of, even if you're sort of like experimenting with an idea,
00:57:04.320 maybe you're thinking out loud a little bit, you're trying to work through something and maybe you haven't even,
00:57:09.320 and I'm not saying this is the case here, but I mean, God forbid, you're just kind of like,
00:57:13.620 you're thinking about this and you're talking through it and the idea isn't fully formed,
00:57:18.220 but you think you've kind of, you're walking down the right direction.
00:57:21.140 And so you just go out on a limb and you offer your thought.
00:57:24.000 And if you do that, you're descended upon, you're ripped apart, you're mocked.
00:57:30.180 Anyone who ventures even a few inches outside the box is belittled by all of the dull, mindless drones inside the box.
00:57:38.820 It's the nature of the internet to encourage these kinds of reactions because you would never react that way in real life, right?
00:57:43.720 If you were sitting around in a living room having a conversation and a few drinks and Adam Lane Smith was there
00:57:50.340 and, you know, you got to talking about depression and all this,
00:57:53.600 and he made the point that male depression often stems from powerlessness,
00:57:57.240 you wouldn't start shouting at him or laughing in his face or mocking him with snide comments.
00:58:01.720 Unless you are the most insufferable dork on the planet, you wouldn't respond,
00:58:06.660 that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard, moron.
00:58:10.020 Instead, you would say something like, hmm, yeah, that's interesting.
00:58:12.640 Here's what I think.
00:58:13.920 And the conversation would continue.
00:58:15.720 But on the internet, the goal is to score points, right?
00:58:18.280 It's not to have a conversation.
00:58:20.340 Certainly not to reach an understanding.
00:58:22.060 The goal, if anything, is the opposite of understanding.
00:58:25.020 It's to ensure that what the other person said is not understood.
00:58:29.580 And come to think of it, this is all probably contributing to the problem of helplessness
00:58:33.520 because it can be rather a helpless feeling to share a thoughtful insight
00:58:37.740 and have it mindlessly ripped apart by stupid, pedantic, disingenuous trolls.
00:58:44.600 All the more validation for the point that Smith raised.
00:58:47.420 All the more reason to say to his critics, not to him, you are today canceled.
00:58:54.180 And that'll do it for this portion of the show as we move over to the members block.
00:58:58.020 Hope to see you there.
00:58:59.160 If not, hope to at least see you out at the rally today.
00:59:02.080 And if not then, then on Monday.
00:59:03.820 Godspeed.
00:59:04.080 We'll see you in the next week.
00:59:19.960 Bye.
00:59:20.560 Bye.
00:59:21.540 Bye.
00:59:21.840 Bye.
00:59:21.860 Bye.
00:59:21.880 Bye.
00:59:21.900 Bye.
00:59:21.920 Bye.
00:59:23.380 Bye.
00:59:23.980 Bye.
00:59:24.260 Bye.
00:59:25.800 Bye.
00:59:26.060 Bye.
00:59:26.400 Bye.
00:59:26.700 Bye.
