00:00:00.120 Skamala Harris has now selected her vice presidential candidate.
00:00:03.220 His name is Tim Walls, and he is one of the most radical governors in all of America.
00:00:12.820 Despite his seemingly humble beginnings, his career trajectory is littered with questionable decisions,
00:00:17.600 political opportunism, and increasingly radical campaigns.
00:00:20.760 Tim Walls was born on April 6, 1964, in West Point, Nebraska.
00:00:24.520 His dad worked as a public school administrator.
00:00:26.480 His mom was a community activist and homemaker.
00:00:29.160 Walls told Minnesota Public Radio they were certainly New Deal,
00:00:32.180 which is Walls' claim to being a born-and-bred Democrat.
00:00:35.120 According to The Independent, Walls' parents almost named him after President John F. Kennedy.
00:00:39.220 Walls shared, quote,
00:00:40.200 The tenuous connection with the Kennedys was just an early indicator that politics would be Tim Walls' life.
00:00:52.940 After high school, Walls joined the Army National Guard.
00:00:55.520 Concurrently, he pursued a career in education, earning a bachelor's degree,
00:00:58.560 from prestigious Chadron State College in 1989,
00:01:01.540 and a master's degree from Minnesota State University in 2001.
00:01:04.800 Walls taught high school geography and coached football.
00:01:07.120 He was an assistant coach, not a head coach, despite his latest attempts to play one on TV.
00:01:11.020 But what defined his career was his relentless pursuit of political advancement.
00:01:14.540 The first place he sought out that advancement appears to have been China.
00:01:18.180 Walls has been to China over 30 times.
00:01:20.400 Yes, you heard that correctly.
00:01:21.500 More than 30 visits to a country that is and has been no friend to the United States.
00:01:25.720 Walls' connection with China began in 1989, a pivotal year marked by the horrific Tiananmen Square Massacre.
00:01:30.780 While most Americans were recoiling from the brutality of the Chinese Communist Party,
00:01:34.600 Walls decided it was a perfect time to head on over to China to teach.
00:01:37.520 He even witnessed the aftermath of the protests firsthand.
00:01:40.200 Fast forward a few years, and he chose to go back to honeymoon in China with his wife, Glenn.
00:01:44.200 An odd place for a honeymoon, to be sure.
00:01:46.120 But then again, Bernie Sanders honeymooned in the Soviet Union.
00:01:48.400 But wait, there's more.
00:01:50.200 Walls and his wife started a company, Educational Travel Adventures,
00:01:52.980 specifically to take high school students from Mankato, Minnesota, on trips to China every summer.
00:01:58.320 These trips, it turns out, were at least partially funded by the Chinese regime.
00:02:01.940 What did China expect in return for this generosity?
00:02:04.560 No one knows, but the CCP isn't exactly famous for being giving and open-hearted.
00:02:09.240 Walls' interactions in China didn't go unnoticed.
00:02:11.200 It's almost certain in the Ministry of State Security, China's powerful secret police vetted him.
00:02:14.500 There's no hard evidence, of course, to suggest that Walls was directly involved with Chinese intelligence,
00:02:19.100 but the very nature of his extensive travel and engagement with Chinese officials warrants some scrutiny.
00:02:24.260 Another questionable life choice occurred when Walls,
00:02:26.080 then a 31-year-old high school teacher and assistant football coach,
00:02:29.100 an example for the children of Mankato West High School,
00:02:31.600 was arrested for driving under the influence in Nebraska.
00:02:34.500 Walls was pulled over for speeding, clocked at 96 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone.
00:02:38.920 According to the police report,
00:02:39.980 the arresting officer detected a strong odor of alcohol on Walls' breath and person.
00:02:43.680 Walls subsequently failed both a field sobriety test and a breathalyzer,
00:02:47.280 leading to his arrest and subsequent guilty plea in 1996.
00:02:50.660 During Tim Walls' 2006 campaign for Congress,
00:02:53.380 his campaign manager, Kerry Greeley,
00:02:55.060 attempted to address the resurfacing of that 1995 DUI.
00:02:58.680 Greeley asserted Walls was not actually drunk at the time of the arrest.
00:03:02.100 She attributed the incident to a misunderstanding,
00:03:04.220 partly due to Walls' partial deafness,
00:03:06.860 which he suffered during his time in the National Guard.
00:03:08.840 Something about him being partially deaf
00:03:10.520 probably explained how he flunked the field sobriety and breathalyzer test,
00:03:14.200 clocking a 0.128% on the latter.
00:03:17.660 Even the end of Walls' National Guard service was shrouded in controversy.
00:03:20.940 According to the New York Post,
00:03:22.120 veterans have accused him of embellishing his military career
00:03:24.540 and abandoning his National Guard battalion.
00:03:26.840 That's because Walls retired ahead of his unit's 2005 deployment to Iraq.
00:03:30.540 According to retired command sergeants Major Thomas Behrens and Paul Herr,
00:03:33.500 Walls quit upon learning that his unit would be deployed to Iraq,
00:03:36.480 even after telling his fellow troops he would join them there.
00:03:38.520 According to Behrens and Herr, on May 16, 2005, Walls quit,
00:03:42.340 betraying his country, leaving the first 125th Field Artillery Battalion
00:03:46.080 and its soldiers hanging, without its senior non-commissioned officer
00:03:48.920 as the battalion prepared for war.
00:03:50.940 Here's Behrens explaining.
00:03:52.200 He abandoned us.
00:03:53.520 I mean, what the hell kind of leader does that?
00:03:55.640 I mean, he just, as soon as the shots were fired in Iraq,
00:03:58.540 he turned and ran the other way and hung his hat up and quit.
00:04:02.300 In Walls' official congressional biography, it simply states,
00:04:04.700 quote, Walls served overseas with his battalion in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
00:04:08.800 From a veteran's perspective, there is a big difference between serving overseas
00:04:11.800 in support of an operation versus in an operation.
00:04:15.480 Walls' biography is intentionally vague.
00:04:17.200 Veterans have been ringing the alarm bells ever since his 2006 run for Congress.
00:04:20.560 One video unearthed online shows a veteran confronting Walls' campaign staff
00:04:23.720 at his offices over the issue.
00:04:24.880 There's a huge difference between being deployed to a circle of face in Italy
00:04:30.000 and being in the combat zone.
00:04:32.240 I don't have to have to have fun.
00:04:33.300 Under current U.S. law, this could get the congressman probably thrown in jail
00:04:37.820 in violation of 2006 stolen ballot act.
00:04:40.940 None of this has stopped Walls from continuing to imply he served in combat.
00:04:43.980 Highest ranking enlisted soldier ever to serve in Congress.
00:04:47.480 Retired 24 years later as command sergeant major
00:04:50.320 and served with his battalion at Operating Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
00:04:55.640 Having been one of those that came back, we were in support of OEF,
00:04:59.200 but being sitting in there with OEF, OIF veterans, when we came back,
00:05:02.420 they showed us the horse whisperer and told us to be nice when we went home.
00:05:05.880 This type of lie is typically known as stolen valor.
00:05:08.380 While the nature of his veteran status remained hazy
00:05:10.260 throughout his gubernatorial campaign and election,
00:05:12.020 his elevation to Kamala Harris' presidential ticket
00:05:14.440 has brought those allegations back to light.
00:05:16.680 Ironically enough, it was Kamala Harris' campaign account
00:05:18.680 that tweeted a video of Walls claiming to have carried weapons in war.
00:05:22.120 I've been voting for common sense legislation that protects the Second Amendment,
00:05:25.360 but we can do background checks, we can do CDC research,
00:05:27.980 we can make sure we don't have reciprocal carry among states,
00:05:30.660 and we can make sure that those weapons of war that I carried in war
00:05:33.460 is the only place where those weapons were at.
00:05:35.640 Even CNN understood the gravity of the stolen valor allegations.
00:05:38.200 There is no evidence that at any time Governor Walls was in a position of being shot at,
00:05:43.720 and some of his language could easily be seen to suggest that he was.
00:05:47.420 Immediately after abandoning his troops, Walls launched a run for Congress.
00:05:51.020 In fact, he was apparently considering a run for Congress
00:05:53.100 even during his last years in the National Guard.
00:05:55.400 In 2006, Walls formally entered the political arena.
00:05:58.240 He ran for the U.S. House of Representatives
00:05:59.660 from Minnesota's 1st Congressional District.
00:06:01.760 He narrowly defeated 6th-term Republican incumbent Gil Gutnacht.
00:06:05.200 His focus on veterans affairs, agriculture, education,
00:06:08.360 massed a more opportunistic approach to governance.
00:06:10.600 This administration took us to an unjustified war in Iraq
00:06:13.660 where our warriors are doing the best they can.
00:06:16.060 They are the best that's ever been fielded.
00:06:17.720 They left them there.
00:06:18.920 They do not support the VA on the back end,
00:06:21.160 and this country is no safer because of it.
00:06:23.160 We can do better.
00:06:24.120 I don't have to rebut or say anything.
00:06:25.940 I live that.
00:06:26.720 I, on a teacher's salary, understand what's happening.
00:06:29.060 When I coached football, these stands held about 3,000 people.
00:06:32.880 That's a lot.
00:06:34.000 It's also the number of American soldiers who have died fighting in Iraq.
00:06:37.600 Serving right now are kids that I taught, coached, and trained to be soldiers.
00:06:41.480 They deserve a plan for Iraq to govern itself so they can come home.
00:06:46.220 As a former high school teacher,
00:06:47.420 Walls made education a central plank of his 2006 campaign.
00:06:50.600 He argued for increased federal funding for public schools,
00:06:53.220 largely SOPs to the teachers' unions.
00:06:55.340 Tim Walls' time as U.S. representative was marked by a stance on positions
00:06:58.600 he would quickly abandon later upon becoming Minnesota governor.
00:07:01.440 He represented himself as a moderate, a supporter of gun rights,
00:07:03.960 the Keystone XL Pipeline, and Israel.
00:07:05.840 He also voted in favor of tighter vetting of refugees.
00:07:08.380 While Walls served on the House Committee on Veterans Affairs
00:07:10.620 and was a vocal proponent of veterans' rights,
00:07:12.640 VA whistleblowers reported that Walls' office
00:07:14.800 did not adequately support their efforts
00:07:16.700 to expose mismanagement and corruption within the VA.
00:07:19.980 Walls also gained a reputation for failures in his communication
00:07:22.460 and with his office's constituent services.
00:07:24.860 Reports of delayed responses and insufficient support
00:07:27.300 for constituents dealing with federal agencies
00:07:29.160 were recurrent themes during his tenure.
00:07:31.500 By 2017, Walls saw an opportunity to climb the political ladder higher.
00:07:34.900 Announcing his candidacy for governor of Minnesota,
00:07:36.720 his campaign capitalized on Governor Mark Dayton's decision
00:07:39.340 not to seek re-election.
00:07:40.920 The Democratic primary for governor was a battleground
00:07:42.900 with Walls facing formidable opponents
00:07:44.420 like State Representative Aaron Murphy
00:07:46.040 and Attorney General Lori Swanson.
00:07:48.060 Walls' campaign strategy was straightforward.
00:07:50.040 Win at any cost.
00:07:51.420 The cost was the abandonment of much of his centrist platform.
00:07:54.280 He suddenly shifted left on issues like gun control
00:07:56.480 and vetting of refugees.
00:07:57.520 Should Minnesotans be required by law
00:07:59.900 to show a valid ID to vote?
00:08:02.040 And should undocumented or illegal immigrants
00:08:04.560 be granted driver's licenses?
00:08:06.620 Tim Walls will just go around with that.
00:08:07.920 No and yes.
00:08:08.940 They should not have an ID to vote.
00:08:10.620 And yes, they should have driver's licenses.
00:08:12.480 So when Hope comes home after Parkland and says,
00:08:14.540 Dad, we have to do something,
00:08:16.200 this issue of the nation changing, the NRA changing,
00:08:20.100 and to be quite honestly,
00:08:21.820 the folks we're going to need to actually get this done,
00:08:24.700 responsible gun owners,
00:08:26.020 if we can't welcome them in when there's a change of heart,
00:08:29.220 if we can't welcome them in to make a difference
00:08:32.020 to actually get this done,
00:08:33.780 then it's simply advocacy and words.
00:08:35.780 He also endorsed a public option for health care
00:08:37.760 that would effectively undercut private insurance in the state.
00:08:40.300 He pushed vast spending initiatives on everything
00:08:42.080 from infrastructure to affordable housing.
00:08:44.220 He suggested a vast overhaul of the state's energy system
00:08:46.800 in order to stop climate change,
00:08:48.580 including extraordinary spending on wind,
00:08:50.660 solar, and other inefficient technologies.
00:08:52.800 There wasn't a spending initiative Walls didn't support.
00:08:54.740 This place is sacred to me.
00:08:56.600 It's sacred to Minnesotans.
00:08:58.060 As your governor, I will do nothing that puts at risk that sacred place,
00:09:02.580 but I will continue to praise, to build,
00:09:06.280 and to make sure that if we have the solutions
00:09:08.660 to build the clean energy economy,
00:09:11.220 we have the solution to create jobs,
00:09:13.260 I will stand there and make it happen.
00:09:15.400 Walls also began speaking loudly about social issues.
00:09:17.640 He pushed soft on crime policies, gun control,
00:09:20.160 LGBTQ plus minus divided by sign issues.
00:09:22.940 Walls secured the Democratic Farmer Labor nomination
00:09:24.980 with 41.6% of the vote.
00:09:27.260 In the general election, Walls faced Republican Jeff Johnson.
00:09:30.140 The race wasn't much of one.
00:09:31.520 Walls, unwilling to define himself clearly politically
00:09:33.420 and acting all things to all people,
00:09:35.320 won 53.9% of the vote.
00:09:37.320 It was as governor, however, that Walls' true leftism emerged.
00:09:40.620 On his very first day in office,
00:09:42.200 Walls signed an executive order establishing a DEI Council,
00:09:45.440 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion,
00:09:47.460 tasked with implementing DEI-focused initiatives
00:09:49.720 all across state agencies.
00:09:51.020 The council included representatives
00:09:52.900 from various state departments,
00:09:54.080 community organizations, and advocacy groups,
00:09:56.400 with a timeline aiming for quarterly reports
00:09:58.280 and a comprehensive action plan within the first year.
00:10:01.380 The DEI Council's mandate included conducting assessments
00:10:03.720 of current practices, identifying disparities,
00:10:06.100 and recommending policy changes
00:10:07.220 to promote equity and inclusion.
00:10:09.580 Equality of outcome.
00:10:10.780 This council also oversaw the implementation
00:10:12.580 of DEI-focused training programs for state employees
00:10:15.200 on issues related to diversity and unconscious bias.
00:10:19.240 Let's be clear about what this meant.
00:10:20.340 Tim Walls prioritized an agenda
00:10:21.960 that elevated identity politics over merit and competence.
00:10:25.160 This council enforced quotas and mandates,
00:10:26.900 leading to hiring practices
00:10:27.900 that emphasized demographic characteristics
00:10:30.060 rather than qualifications or experience.
00:10:32.640 Walls' first step in office
00:10:33.680 was a step toward division and DEI.
00:10:36.020 When the pandemic of 2020 hit,
00:10:37.640 Walls' instinct was to lock down.
00:10:39.460 Hard.
00:10:40.220 On March 13, 2020,
00:10:41.640 he declared a peacetime emergency,
00:10:42.980 then issued more than 100 executive orders,
00:10:45.280 ranging from stay-at-home mandates
00:10:46.500 to mask requirements to business closures.
00:10:48.260 The Minnesota economy plummeted into chaos.
00:10:50.820 According to the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce,
00:10:52.820 total non-farm employment fell by 416,000 jobs
00:10:55.940 in March and April,
00:10:56.820 an amount larger than the entirety
00:10:58.080 of North Dakota's workforce.
00:10:59.800 Unemployment spiked to 11% in May.
00:11:01.980 State GDP declined by nearly 30% in the second quarter.
00:11:04.940 Tens of thousands of businesses around the state
00:11:06.840 were forced to close their doors
00:11:07.920 and either pivot to remote operations
00:11:09.420 or temporarily close their business altogether.
00:11:12.100 Walls' administration faced criticism
00:11:13.640 for inconsistent messaging and execution of policies.
00:11:16.140 His decision to allow only outdoor dining
00:11:18.420 during certain phases of reopening
00:11:19.720 was met with confusion and frustration,
00:11:21.920 particularly as other states adopted
00:11:23.220 more direct and cohesive approaches.
00:11:25.160 The administration's handling of unemployment benefits
00:11:27.060 and aid distribution was slow and inefficient,
00:11:29.260 compounding the economic hardships
00:11:30.560 faced by many Minnesotans.
00:11:32.080 The $67.3 million in COVID-19 business relief payments
00:11:35.320 that Walls controlled were insufficient
00:11:37.340 and came too late to save too many local businesses.
00:11:40.120 One of the most contentious aspects
00:11:41.460 of Walls' pandemic response
00:11:42.800 was his handling of health and safety measures
00:11:44.680 in long-term care facilities.
00:11:46.460 Early on in the pandemic,
00:11:47.400 these facilities became hotspots for COVID-19 outbreaks,
00:11:50.240 leading to a significant number of deaths
00:11:51.600 among elderly residents.
00:11:53.080 The state's response was inadequate and slow,
00:11:55.320 failing to protect
00:11:56.000 the most vulnerable populations effectively.
00:11:58.280 This criticism was further fueled
00:11:59.740 by reports of insufficient PPE
00:12:01.340 and delayed testing in these facilities.
00:12:03.900 Additionally, Walls' administration
00:12:05.220 failed religious groups,
00:12:06.280 including the Minnesota Catholic bishops,
00:12:07.860 by placing limits on religious gatherings.
00:12:09.860 Those restrictions infringed on religious freedom
00:12:11.700 and were inconsistently applied
00:12:13.140 compared to other public gatherings in the state.
00:12:15.580 Walls' administration went to great lengths
00:12:17.140 to intrude on the privacy of his citizens
00:12:18.660 during the pandemic.
00:12:19.860 In March 2020,
00:12:20.920 Walls implemented a COVID-19 hotline,
00:12:22.920 which encouraged Minnesotans
00:12:24.100 to report violations of state lockdown orders.
00:12:26.360 The information you leave
00:12:27.420 is considered public information.
00:12:29.520 At the tone,
00:12:30.300 please leave the following information.
00:12:32.500 Your name,
00:12:33.780 your callback number,
00:12:35.340 how the stay-at-home order is being violated,
00:12:38.240 and where the stay-at-home order was violated.
00:12:40.800 Thank you.
00:12:42.400 This so-called snitch line
00:12:43.680 was operational from March 2020 until June 2022.
00:12:47.120 The hotline generated thousands of reports
00:12:48.800 from residents who reported their neighbors
00:12:50.380 for dangerous, scary activities
00:12:52.440 like walking their dogs,
00:12:53.840 playing basketball,
00:12:54.840 not wearing masks,
00:12:55.980 making non-essential purchases,
00:12:57.500 and hosting church services
00:12:58.460 that did not meet legal requirements
00:12:59.980 set by Walls' orders.
00:13:01.740 Today, of course,
00:13:02.340 Walls claims the essence of Minnesota Nice
00:13:03.980 is minding your own damn business.
00:13:06.020 There's a golden rule.
00:13:07.520 Mind your own damn business.
00:13:10.800 In Minnesota,
00:13:11.920 we respect our neighbors
00:13:12.960 and their personal choices that they make.
00:13:15.320 Walls' administration also implemented
00:13:16.840 an unconstitutional,
00:13:18.020 unethical,
00:13:18.660 DEI-based approach
00:13:19.540 to rationing COVID-19 treatments,
00:13:21.500 prioritizing patients based on race.
00:13:23.680 Under Walls' watch,
00:13:24.700 the Minnesota Department of Health
00:13:25.720 adopted an ethical framework
00:13:27.540 that explicitly gave preference
00:13:29.020 to non-white residents
00:13:30.240 for monoclonal antibody treatments.
00:13:32.280 This framework was based
00:13:33.140 on non-binding FDA guidance
00:13:34.620 suggesting that race
00:13:35.400 could be a risk factor
00:13:36.340 for severe COVID-19 outcomes.
00:13:38.020 The policy, for example,
00:13:39.020 prioritized black 18-year-olds
00:13:40.520 over elderly white people.
00:13:42.280 The state's rationing plan,
00:13:43.560 part of the Minnesota
00:13:44.180 Resource Allocation Platform,
00:13:45.960 assigned points
00:13:46.520 for various risk factors,
00:13:47.920 with racial minorities
00:13:48.820 automatically receiving two points.
00:13:50.680 This meant that being
00:13:51.300 a racial minority
00:13:51.960 could elevate someone's priority
00:13:53.260 for receiving scarce
00:13:54.380 COVID-19 treatments,
00:13:55.600 even if they were
00:13:56.360 at lower overall risk
00:13:57.620 compared to elderly
00:13:58.760 or immunocompromised patients.
00:14:00.740 The America First Legal Advocacy Group
00:14:02.200 challenged the system,
00:14:03.080 highlighting that race
00:14:03.760 is not a medical condition
00:14:04.800 like hypertension or heart disease,
00:14:06.360 which are legitimate risk factors
00:14:07.560 for severe COVID-19 outcomes.
00:14:09.280 The policy was eventually scrapped
00:14:10.560 after legal threats
00:14:11.280 and public outcry.
00:14:12.600 Every major issue
00:14:13.280 that arose during Waltz's governorship
00:14:14.520 was met with gross incompetence.
00:14:16.420 The handling of the riots
00:14:17.200 following the killing
00:14:17.860 of George Floyd
00:14:18.460 on May 25th, 2020
00:14:19.860 was no different.
00:14:21.200 The response from state
00:14:21.980 and local authorities
00:14:22.760 was sluggish and ineffective.
00:14:24.560 Waltz admitted to an abject failure
00:14:26.000 in the response to the riots.
00:14:27.360 There weren't any police there.
00:14:28.780 There weren't any firefighters.
00:14:30.520 There was no social control
00:14:31.920 and her constituents
00:14:33.020 were locked in their house
00:14:34.120 wondering what they were doing.
00:14:34.800 That is an abject failure
00:14:37.340 that cannot happen.
00:14:39.120 The delayed deployment
00:14:39.740 of the National Guard
00:14:40.540 along with a lack of clear directives
00:14:42.020 fueled the chaos.
00:14:43.220 Minneapolis police were overwhelmed
00:14:44.480 by the scale of the unrest,
00:14:45.800 which included mass looting,
00:14:46.960 arson, and violence.
00:14:48.240 Minneapolis Police Chief
00:14:49.160 Maderia Arrodonzo
00:14:50.200 and Mayor Jacob Frey
00:14:51.380 both acknowledged
00:14:52.240 that their forces were overcome
00:14:53.540 by the scale and intensity
00:14:54.760 of the unrest.
00:14:55.940 The failure to evacuate
00:14:56.880 the third precinct
00:14:57.580 before it was set on fire
00:14:58.560 further highlighted
00:14:59.580 the poor coordination
00:15:00.600 between authorities.
00:15:01.940 Minneapolis Fire Chief
00:15:02.920 John Freudel
00:15:03.500 was unaware of the fire
00:15:04.700 until informed by a CNN host
00:15:06.540 highlighting the communication
00:15:07.760 breakdowns that plagued
00:15:08.780 the response efforts
00:15:09.620 all due to the governor's
00:15:10.860 absence of leadership.
00:15:12.460 Waltz's decision to delay
00:15:13.460 the National Guard deployment
00:15:14.320 was a massive mistake.
00:15:16.680 By the time the National Guard
00:15:17.580 was mobilized
00:15:18.200 and arrived on the scene,
00:15:19.100 the damage had already been done.
00:15:20.460 Buildings were burning.
00:15:21.220 The city was in chaos.
00:15:22.580 Senate Majority Leader
00:15:23.340 Paul Gazelka
00:15:24.060 criticized Waltz
00:15:25.000 for not taking immediate control
00:15:26.220 and using his emergency powers
00:15:27.580 more decisively.
00:15:28.700 Adding insult to injury
00:15:29.640 as Tim Walz's family
00:15:30.640 was off to do
00:15:31.540 was Hope Walls,
00:15:32.620 Tim Walz's 19-year-old daughter.
00:15:34.300 During the riots,
00:15:34.940 in response to a post
00:15:35.800 from a community organizer
00:15:36.860 warning rioters to get out,
00:15:38.680 Hope tweeted,
00:15:39.540 the Guard cannot be sent
00:15:40.320 within minutes.
00:15:41.220 To be clear,
00:15:41.660 the National Guard
00:15:42.160 will not be present tonight.
00:15:43.620 Obviously, she knew something
00:15:44.600 the rioters did not.
00:15:45.760 Hope Walls' Twitter account,
00:15:46.860 Hope Walls,
00:15:47.420 has since been scrubbed
00:15:48.260 of all content.

00:17:00.100 Throughout the crisis,
00:17:00.960 Walls' public statements
00:17:01.780 reflected a reactive approach.
00:17:03.520 He acknowledged
00:17:03.900 the state's slow response
00:17:04.900 admitting the situation
00:17:05.780 should have been handled
00:17:06.400 more swiftly.
00:17:07.280 His comments about
00:17:07.860 the need for unity
00:17:08.740 and understanding
00:17:09.440 the community's pain
00:17:10.340 belied the facts.
00:17:11.560 He failed his office.
00:17:12.520 He failed the people
00:17:13.100 of Minnesota
00:17:13.580 in one of the state's
00:17:14.480 most critical moments.
00:17:15.680 Complicating the issue
00:17:16.380 for the governor
00:17:16.780 was his wife,
00:17:17.540 Gwen Walls.
00:17:18.280 She gave outrageous
00:17:19.060 public comments.
00:17:20.060 During the riots,
00:17:20.760 here's what she had to say.
00:17:21.640 I could smell
00:17:22.660 the burning tires.
00:17:24.600 That was a very real thing.
00:17:26.920 And I kept the windows open
00:17:28.040 for as long as I could
00:17:29.160 because I felt like
00:17:30.020 that was such a touchstone
00:17:31.340 of what was happening.
00:17:33.740 That's a bit of
00:17:34.180 white privilege for you.
00:17:35.320 During the peak of the riots,
00:17:36.320 when Minneapolis
00:17:36.780 was engulfed in chaos,
00:17:38.060 buildings burning,
00:17:38.760 businesses being looted,
00:17:39.620 people suffering,
00:17:40.420 resulting in an estimated
00:17:41.400 $2 billion in damage nationwide,
00:17:43.740 Gwen Walls kept the windows
00:17:44.760 of the governor's mansion
00:17:45.580 open as long as she could
00:17:46.800 to smell the burning tires
00:17:48.640 so she could suffer
00:17:49.660 along with her people.
00:17:51.600 That may be in the race
00:17:52.700 for the most elitist
00:17:53.480 tone-deaf response
00:17:54.100 to a crisis in modern history.
00:17:55.560 But wait, there's more.
00:17:56.960 Gwen Walls has been
00:17:57.520 a radically outspoken advocate
00:17:58.780 for criminal justice reform,
00:18:00.320 being quoted as saying,
00:18:01.280 quote,
00:18:01.380 criminals should have
00:18:02.020 as many chances as they need.
00:18:03.500 How many chances do you get?
00:18:05.420 My answer to that is
00:18:06.800 as many chances as you need.
00:18:09.940 During a 2020 rally
00:18:10.880 at the state capitol,
00:18:11.640 Gwen encouraged individuals
00:18:12.720 who needed pardons to apply,
00:18:14.260 saying, quote,
00:18:14.640 if you need a pardon, apply.
00:18:16.100 Those numbers have been going down.
00:18:17.400 I want them up.
00:18:17.960 Flood the zone,
00:18:18.920 because what that does
00:18:19.680 is fully restore people
00:18:20.540 to our community.
00:18:21.620 And we need each and every person
00:18:23.100 in this state,
00:18:23.860 in our community.
00:18:24.680 Rights restored, active, engaged.
00:18:26.640 By rights,
00:18:27.220 she means removing the accountability
00:18:28.320 of committing a felony
00:18:29.180 in our country,
00:18:29.940 restoring voting rights,
00:18:30.820 creating leniency
00:18:31.480 where there should clearly be none.
00:18:33.300 Aiding in Gwen Walls' efforts
00:18:34.520 was none other than Kamala Harris,
00:18:35.880 who reinforced her own
00:18:36.940 lenient crime stance.
00:18:38.360 In a tweet during the riots,
00:18:39.420 Kamala promoted
00:18:40.020 and requested donations
00:18:41.040 to the Minnesota Freedom Fund,
00:18:42.660 a fund subsidizing cash bails
00:18:44.300 for criminals.
00:18:45.220 In this case,
00:18:45.880 the fund was bailing out
00:18:46.660 the rioters and looters,
00:18:47.500 causing the destruction
00:18:48.400 on Minneapolis' streets.
00:18:49.780 So, what did Tim Walls
00:18:50.700 have to say during the riots?
00:18:51.960 In a press conference,
00:18:52.920 Walls decided to make
00:18:53.620 his position on systemic racism
00:18:55.340 abundantly clear.
00:18:56.800 In the press conference,
00:18:57.680 Walls stated,
00:18:58.280 quote,
00:18:58.300 I understand clearly
00:18:59.300 that many communities
00:19:00.180 feel the weight of systemic racism.
00:19:01.920 He emphasized,
00:19:02.520 I will not patronize
00:19:03.440 the struggles these communities face,
00:19:05.060 acknowledging the difficult that is.
00:19:07.480 Walls didn't stop
00:19:08.220 at merely acknowledging
00:19:08.960 systemic racism.
00:19:09.960 He doubled down,
00:19:10.700 declaring,
00:19:11.220 I refuse to overlook
00:19:12.120 the blatant injustices
00:19:13.060 that occur in broad daylight.
00:19:14.920 Sympathy for the rioters
00:19:16.180 in the middle of gigantic riots.
00:19:18.180 That's the Tim Walls story.
00:19:19.280 I understand clearly
00:19:20.560 there is no trust
00:19:22.040 in many of our communities.
00:19:24.240 And I will not patronize you
00:19:25.600 as a white man
00:19:26.320 without living those lived experiences
00:19:28.440 of how very difficult that is.
00:19:30.600 And I refuse to have it
00:19:32.880 take away the attention
00:19:34.360 of the stain
00:19:35.800 that we need to be working on
00:19:37.400 is what happened
00:19:38.880 with those fundamental
00:19:40.060 institutional racism
00:19:41.280 that allows a man
00:19:43.120 to be held down
00:19:44.080 in broad daylight
00:19:44.920 and thank God
00:19:46.540 a young person
00:19:47.360 had a camera to video it.
00:19:49.040 In June 2020,
00:19:50.000 a group of protesters
00:19:50.780 led by members
00:19:51.420 of the American Indian Movement
00:19:52.480 toppled a statue
00:19:53.260 of Christopher Columbus
00:19:54.080 outside the Minnesota
00:19:55.080 state capitol.
00:19:56.020 These vandals,
00:19:56.620 who considered Columbus
00:19:57.360 a symbol of genocide
00:19:58.360 against Native Americans,
00:19:59.540 pulled down the statue
00:20:00.380 with ropes.
00:20:01.440 Walls was aware
00:20:02.080 ahead of time
00:20:02.460 that groups might attempt
00:20:03.160 to tear down the statue,
00:20:04.220 but when the incident occurred,
00:20:05.160 law enforcement was criticized
00:20:06.160 for not intervening.
00:20:07.460 Walls' commissioner
00:20:08.060 of the Department of Public Safety
00:20:09.360 later told the press
00:20:10.380 law enforcement was,
00:20:11.320 quote,
00:20:11.480 not able to get out there
00:20:12.520 in time.
00:20:13.360 Sure,
00:20:13.740 it was literally right
00:20:15.060 outside the state capitol.
00:20:16.620 At a press conference,
00:20:17.480 Walls stated that
00:20:18.080 while he did not condone
00:20:18.920 the act of toppling the statue
00:20:20.000 and warned there would be
00:20:20.980 consequences for those involved,
00:20:22.460 he also expressed understanding
00:20:23.620 for the protesters' actions.
00:20:25.060 In a statement,
00:20:25.820 he noted that the protesters
00:20:26.780 had, quote,
00:20:27.180 legitimate concerns
00:20:28.080 regarding Columbus' legacy
00:20:29.320 and the ongoing issues
00:20:30.600 faced by indigenous communities.
00:20:32.480 Republican Senate Majority Leader
00:20:33.620 Paul Gazelka
00:20:34.220 made the link
00:20:34.880 to other leadership failures
00:20:35.860 during the Black Lives Matter riots.
00:20:37.540 Gazelka stated,
00:20:38.340 the governor didn't protect
00:20:39.080 the third precinct,
00:20:39.880 he didn't protect businesses
00:20:40.700 on Lake Street,
00:20:41.540 the lieutenant governor
00:20:42.120 condoned the destruction
00:20:42.880 of public property.
00:20:43.880 Mike Forrestia,
00:20:44.440 the activist who led
00:20:45.100 the toppling of the statue,
00:20:46.260 was charged with felony
00:20:47.040 criminal damage to property.
00:20:48.440 However,
00:20:48.780 in a deal with prosecutors,
00:20:49.920 he avoided trial
00:20:50.580 and received a sentence
00:20:51.340 of 100 hours
00:20:52.340 of community service.
00:20:53.400 That sentence falls right in line
00:20:54.540 with how Tim Walls
00:20:55.260 deals with criminals.
00:20:56.060 A society that does not
00:20:57.500 put equity and inclusion
00:20:59.020 at the center of it
00:20:59.880 is certainly going to
00:21:01.140 eventually come to the places
00:21:03.060 where we're at.
00:21:03.900 Following the riots themselves,
00:21:05.120 the trial of Derek Chauvin,
00:21:06.140 the former Minneapolis police officer
00:21:07.860 charged with the murder
00:21:08.660 of George Floyd,
00:21:09.640 was one of the most
00:21:10.520 high-profile cases
00:21:11.520 in recent history.
00:21:12.720 Tim Walls' management
00:21:13.460 of the case
00:21:13.860 and the surrounding environment
00:21:14.680 was as mishandled
00:21:15.620 as the riots themselves.
00:21:19.780 From the beginning,
00:21:20.740 Walls' administration
00:21:21.520 failed to ensure
00:21:22.240 an impartial and fair trial
00:21:23.360 for Derek Chauvin.
00:21:24.040 The extensive pretrial publicity
00:21:25.500 and the public pressure
00:21:26.540 for a conviction
00:21:27.100 compromised the integrity
00:21:28.280 of the judicial process
00:21:29.780 without a doubt.
00:21:31.000 Additionally,
00:21:31.820 Walls' public statements
00:21:32.660 did nothing to address concerns
00:21:33.840 about due process for Chauvin.
00:21:35.420 By transferring the prosecution
00:21:36.580 to Attorney General Keith Ellison,
00:21:38.000 known for his progressive views,
00:21:39.440 Walls bowed to public pressure
00:21:40.400 and to the left.
00:21:42.020 Walls ultimately called
00:21:42.820 Chauvin's conviction
00:21:43.400 a critical step towards justice
00:21:44.980 and used the momentum
00:21:45.960 to push for legislative changes
00:21:47.300 aimed at the police.
00:21:48.520 In the wake of the Chauvin trial
00:21:49.600 and the subsequent shooting
00:21:50.520 of Daunte Wright,
00:21:51.780 Walls failed any and all tests
00:21:53.680 in public safety.
00:21:54.600 George Floyd's death
00:21:55.920 and our justice system's conviction
00:21:59.340 gives us that small place
00:22:01.520 to believe we can make the difference.
00:22:04.100 As time went on,
00:22:04.960 failures from the pandemic
00:22:05.800 continued to plague Walls.
00:22:07.260 At his doorstep landed
00:22:08.160 the Feeding Our Future scandal,
00:22:09.740 one of the largest
00:22:10.380 pandemic-related fraud cases
00:22:11.760 in the entire nation.
00:22:12.960 The scheme involved
00:22:13.640 the embezzlement of $250 million
00:22:15.200 from federal child nutrition programs
00:22:17.140 meant to feed low-income kids
00:22:18.920 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
00:22:20.680 Federal prosecutors
00:22:21.420 have charged dozens of individuals
00:22:22.800 associated with
00:22:23.620 Feeding Our Future,
00:22:24.720 alleging they used the funds
00:22:25.700 for personal luxuries
00:22:26.600 like jewelry and property
00:22:27.720 instead of, you know,
00:22:28.900 feeding kids.
00:22:29.780 An audit revealed
00:22:30.420 that Tim Walls'
00:22:31.140 Minnesota Department of Education
00:22:32.320 failed to act on warning signs
00:22:33.820 and did not perform
00:22:34.940 adequate due diligence
00:22:35.860 on high-risk applicants.
00:22:37.660 The controversy deepened
00:22:38.680 when Ramsey County Judge
00:22:39.760 John Guthman issued a statement
00:22:41.340 disputing Walls'
00:22:42.220 public characterization
00:22:43.060 of the court's role.
00:22:44.560 Walls had suggested
00:22:45.240 the court forced
00:22:45.880 the Minnesota Department of Education
00:22:47.140 to resume payments
00:22:47.920 to Feeding Our Future
00:22:48.680 after they were suspended
00:22:49.900 due to suspicions of fraud.
00:22:51.340 He described being speechless
00:22:52.400 when Judge Guthman ruled
00:22:53.580 in favor of the organization
00:22:54.600 in April 2021,
00:22:56.260 implying the court's decision
00:22:57.240 left the state with no choice
00:22:58.440 but to continue the payments.
00:22:59.520 We respected the judge's decision,
00:23:01.160 but I could,
00:23:02.200 and yes,
00:23:02.780 on this one,
00:23:03.300 I can tell you,
00:23:04.500 I was speechless.
00:23:06.040 However,
00:23:06.500 Judge Guthman clarified.
00:23:07.820 He never ordered
00:23:08.380 the MDE to resume payments.
00:23:09.860 Instead,
00:23:10.320 he said the department
00:23:10.920 resumed payments voluntarily,
00:23:12.860 although they were threatened
00:23:13.520 with sanctions
00:23:13.980 and legal penalties
00:23:14.680 if they did not comply.
00:23:16.180 In June 2021,
00:23:17.180 the judge found the MDE
00:23:18.180 in contempt of court
00:23:19.040 for failing to process
00:23:20.140 Feeding Our Future's applications
00:23:21.460 in a timely manner
00:23:22.280 and ordered the department
00:23:23.300 to pay sanctions.
00:23:24.360 Once again,
00:23:24.840 Tim Walls' administration
00:23:25.740 was found negligent
00:23:26.820 and lacked transparency
00:23:27.760 in handling its cases.
00:23:29.060 Once again,
00:23:29.540 Tim Walls lacked leadership
00:23:30.520 and his plate of failure
00:23:31.280 to take action.
00:23:32.380 Once again,
00:23:33.260 as per the usual,
00:23:34.420 Tim Walls failed.
00:23:35.540 In addition to his many failures,
00:23:36.820 Tim Walls' tenure
00:23:37.600 was characterized
00:23:38.160 by a hard turn
00:23:39.100 toward the extreme left.
00:23:40.220 He pledged to go net zero
00:23:41.160 on the electric grid by 2040,
00:23:42.860 radically increasing
00:23:43.620 the cost structure for energy.
00:23:45.100 Walls' policies
00:23:45.740 on gun control,
00:23:46.620 criminal justice reform,
00:23:47.560 and social issues
00:23:48.760 reflected his increasing bow
00:23:50.780 to the progressive wing
00:23:51.620 of the Democratic Party.
00:23:52.780 Despite all of this,
00:23:54.140 Walls secured re-election
00:23:54.980 in 2022
00:23:55.600 with a lower share of the vote
00:23:56.740 and pushed through
00:23:57.380 significant legislative changes
00:23:58.700 with the Democratic majority
00:23:59.760 in the state legislature.
00:24:00.920 His administration
00:24:01.520 passed a $17.5 billion budget
00:24:03.600 that included overreach
00:24:04.760 and overspending
00:24:05.280 on education,
00:24:06.040 infrastructure,
00:24:06.760 and progressive priorities
00:24:07.820 like universal free school meals,
00:24:10.000 abortion rights protections,
00:24:11.160 and a statewide paid leave program.
00:24:13.120 In 2023,
00:24:14.220 Walls advanced several pieces
00:24:15.200 of legislation
00:24:15.780 that expanded benefits
00:24:16.740 for illegal immigrants.
00:24:18.000 One significant legislative move
00:24:19.220 was to offer tuition-free
00:24:20.320 public college education
00:24:21.380 for undocumented immigrants
00:24:22.800 from families earning
00:24:23.520 less than $80,000 annually.
00:24:25.120 Additionally,
00:24:25.720 Walls signed a bill
00:24:26.280 allowing illegal immigrants
00:24:27.300 to obtain driver's licenses,
00:24:28.840 a move he pretended to enact
00:24:30.020 as a measure
00:24:30.440 to enhance road safety.
00:24:32.080 Walls said,
00:24:32.580 quote,
00:24:32.600 ensuring drivers in our state
00:24:33.700 are licensed
00:24:34.140 and carrying insurance
00:24:34.960 makes the road safer
00:24:36.000 for all Minnesotans.
00:24:37.320 It's done.
00:24:40.520 These 2023 initiatives
00:24:42.000 built on Walls'
00:24:42.840 earlier actions in 2019
00:24:44.200 when he passed
00:24:45.040 state-funded health care provisions
00:24:46.480 for illegal immigrants.
00:24:47.820 According to the Minnesota
00:24:48.500 House of Representatives website,
00:24:50.320 those with refugee
00:24:51.040 or asylum status
00:24:51.980 could access
00:24:52.760 supplemental security income
00:24:54.160 while legal non-citizens
00:24:55.340 could benefit from programs
00:24:56.420 like Minnesota Care and SNAP.
00:24:58.160 These progressive policies
00:24:59.180 put a strain on state resources
00:25:00.420 and encouraged illegal immigration.
00:25:02.340 According to the
00:25:02.840 Migration Policy Institute,
00:25:04.280 Minnesota has an undocumented
00:25:05.420 immigrant population
00:25:06.340 of approximately 81,000 individuals
00:25:08.400 out of a total state population
00:25:09.720 of 5.7 million,
00:25:10.980 a fraction of that
00:25:11.820 total illegal immigration population
00:25:13.300 of the country
00:25:13.860 that we even know about,
00:25:14.880 of course.
00:25:15.360 If Walls was willing
00:25:16.220 to do that to Minnesota,
00:25:17.280 imagine what he would do
00:25:18.280 with the whole country.
00:25:19.480 Walls' next priority
00:25:20.420 after his re-election
00:25:21.300 was a terrifying move
00:25:22.460 that centered around
00:25:23.080 expanding abortion rights
00:25:24.100 in Minnesota.
00:25:24.980 In 2023,
00:25:26.080 Walls signed the
00:25:26.640 Protect Reproductive Options Act,
00:25:28.880 a horrific piece of legislation
00:25:30.100 establishing a fundamental right
00:25:31.440 to obtain an abortion
00:25:32.220 in Minnesota.
00:25:33.100 The PRO Act lacks
00:25:34.000 time limits,
00:25:34.740 term,
00:25:35.240 or trimester specifications,
00:25:36.780 meaning it permits abortion
00:25:37.900 up and until the point of birth.
00:25:39.440 Additionally,
00:25:40.300 Walls signed
00:25:40.800 Minnesota Senate Bill 2995,
00:25:42.940 repealing several existing laws
00:25:44.320 protecting life.
00:25:45.320 That bill repealed provisions
00:25:46.820 that prohibited coercion
00:25:47.820 into undergoing an abortion
00:25:48.860 or sterilization,
00:25:49.940 as well as the use of public funds
00:25:51.260 for abortion,
00:25:51.980 including for minors in schools.
00:25:53.540 The bill also eliminated
00:25:54.680 any requirement
00:25:55.440 for written patient consent
00:25:56.600 before an abortion,
00:25:57.820 instead requiring only
00:25:58.680 that the abortion
00:25:59.200 be deemed medically necessary
00:26:00.300 by the treating provider.
00:26:01.600 The repeal of informed
00:26:02.460 consent provisions,
00:26:03.400 which previously mandated
00:26:04.380 that women be informed
00:26:05.220 about the medical risks
00:26:06.060 of an abortion,
00:26:06.920 the age of the unborn child,
00:26:08.380 and their rights
00:26:08.860 to state assistance
00:26:09.560 or other paternal child support
00:26:11.020 was also prioritized
00:26:12.400 and enacted by Walls.
00:26:14.220 Since the reversal
00:26:14.940 of the Dobbs v. Jackson
00:26:16.120 Women's Health Organization decision,
00:26:17.840 Minnesota has become
00:26:18.560 a booming abortion factory
00:26:19.820 for women all over the Midwest.
00:26:21.740 The combination
00:26:22.200 of the PRO Act
00:26:22.980 and Senate Bill 2995
00:26:24.200 has made the state
00:26:25.040 a significant provider
00:26:25.880 of abortion services,
00:26:27.200 all pushed by Tim Walls
00:26:28.220 and his government.
00:26:29.160 In addition
00:26:29.520 to his extraordinarily
00:26:30.600 radical abortion policies,
00:26:32.480 Walls has also played
00:26:33.380 a key role
00:26:33.960 in the advancement
00:26:34.560 of left-wing LGBTQ policies
00:26:36.500 throughout his political career.
00:26:37.880 This started with his advocacy
00:26:39.400 of the repeal
00:26:40.000 of Don't Ask, Don't Tell
00:26:40.900 in the military
00:26:41.500 and in 2006 Congressional speech,
00:26:43.680 Walls emphasized
00:26:44.260 sexual orientation
00:26:45.120 did not affect a unit's ability
00:26:46.440 to fulfill its mission.
00:26:47.680 I know how important it is
00:26:48.860 to fill our military
00:26:49.800 with qualified, professional
00:26:51.160 and motivated volunteers.
00:26:52.860 We are blessed in this nation.
00:26:54.240 That's exactly what we have.
00:26:55.900 It's time for us
00:26:56.780 to honor their professionalism
00:26:58.100 and know that they're ready
00:26:59.020 to end this discriminatory practice.
00:27:01.440 Walls was a key player
00:27:02.500 in Congress
00:27:03.060 in passing the Matthew Shepard
00:27:04.280 and James Byrd Jr.
00:27:05.340 Hate Crimes Prevention Act,
00:27:06.520 which expanded the definition
00:27:07.660 of federal hate crimes
00:27:08.520 to include those
00:27:09.300 based on sexual orientation,
00:27:10.720 gender identity and disability.
00:27:12.300 This bill arose
00:27:12.920 out of an implicit accusation
00:27:14.080 that Matthew Shepard
00:27:14.720 was killed
00:27:15.060 due to his sexual orientation,
00:27:16.800 marking the Midwest
00:27:17.580 as a bigoted place,
00:27:19.100 a story since totally debunked
00:27:20.300 by the free press.
00:27:21.220 In a revisit of the case,
00:27:22.180 the article determined
00:27:22.820 the 1998 murder
00:27:23.820 of Matthew Shepard
00:27:24.580 was motivated not
00:27:25.560 by sexual orientation
00:27:26.440 or homophobia,
00:27:27.380 but by drugs and money.
00:27:28.640 In January 2021,
00:27:30.080 Walls signed an executive order
00:27:31.120 to ban conversion therapy.
00:27:33.040 And in March 2023,
00:27:34.320 Walls signed the Trans Refuge
00:27:35.600 and Gender Affirming
00:27:36.580 Healthcare Bill.
00:27:37.880 This bill made Minnesota
00:27:38.720 into a so-called
00:27:39.540 trans-sanctuary state.
00:27:41.460 The bill ensures
00:27:42.080 transgender individuals
00:27:43.060 and their families
00:27:43.600 can access quote-unquote
00:27:44.540 gender-affirming healthcare
00:27:46.040 without any legal repercussions.
00:27:48.520 Walls has been presented
00:27:49.400 by the Harris campaign
00:27:50.300 as America's dad,
00:27:51.700 emphasizing his family-oriented image
00:27:53.220 and Midwestern roots.
00:27:54.240 This portrayal
00:27:54.920 is attempting to serve
00:27:55.880 as a strategic foil
00:27:56.920 to distract from
00:27:57.800 Walls' wild left-wing stances.
00:28:00.080 The campaign highlights
00:28:00.940 his wholesome family life,
00:28:02.040 posting about his kids' achievements
00:28:03.060 and family activities
00:28:03.940 to try and create
00:28:04.780 a sense of authenticity
00:28:05.660 and relatability.
00:28:07.280 That is a false flag.
00:28:08.980 It is not true.
00:28:10.180 It is not Mr. Feeney.
00:28:11.280 It is not Coach Taylor.
00:28:12.420 He is,
00:28:13.040 as he has stated publicly
00:28:14.080 and repeatedly,
00:28:15.060 a wild progressive,
00:28:16.260 a radical,
00:28:17.100 and a liar.
00:28:17.920 Walls' personal background
00:28:18.900 is leveraged
00:28:19.500 to enhance his moderate image.
00:28:21.240 Raised in a small town
00:28:22.020 in Nebraska,
00:28:22.700 his experiences
00:28:23.360 as a high school teacher,
00:28:24.380 football coach,
00:28:24.900 and Army National Guard member
00:28:25.880 paint a picture
00:28:26.560 of somebody deeply connected
00:28:27.640 to traditional American values.
00:28:29.440 It is all political
00:28:30.320 sleight of hand.
00:28:31.220 It's a bad political
00:28:31.940 sleight of hand at that.
00:28:33.360 Arrested for DUI
00:28:34.180 while teacher and assistant coach
00:28:35.220 abandoning his unit in the guard,
00:28:36.720 none of the dad persona
00:28:37.600 really sticks when revealed.
00:28:39.340 In examining Walls' career,
00:28:40.580 it becomes painfully clear
00:28:41.540 his journey
00:28:41.940 from a high school teacher
00:28:42.740 to state governor
00:28:43.280 has been marred
00:28:44.100 by a series of missteps,
00:28:45.380 failures,
00:28:45.940 and a turn toward
00:28:46.520 the radical left.
00:28:47.720 Walls' administration,
00:28:48.980 characterized by indecision
00:28:50.140 and reactive measures,
00:28:51.260 has dragged Minnesota
00:28:52.200 through crisis after crisis,
00:28:53.780 each handled with a lack
00:28:54.880 of foresight
00:28:55.420 or effective leadership.
00:28:56.380 The COVID-19 pandemic
00:28:57.760 saw Walls' draconian
00:28:58.880 lockdown measures
00:28:59.540 cripple small businesses,
00:29:00.800 leading to countless closures
00:29:01.840 and economic hardships.
00:29:02.720 His delayed,
00:29:03.660 disjointed response
00:29:04.520 to the George Floyd riots
00:29:05.500 allowed chaos to reign
00:29:06.480 in Minneapolis,
00:29:07.460 exacerbating tensions
00:29:08.320 and leading to widespread destruction.
00:29:10.360 In the aftermath,
00:29:10.980 his handling of the Derek Chauvin trial
00:29:12.200 did nothing to ensure
00:29:13.040 a fair judicial process,
00:29:14.520 instead contributing
00:29:15.200 to a politically charged atmosphere
00:29:16.880 that undermined public confidence
00:29:18.100 in the justice system.
00:29:19.600 He has left Minnesota
00:29:20.340 more divided than ever,
00:29:21.860 and more people are leaving Minnesota
00:29:23.340 than ever.
00:29:24.320 Here is a chart
00:29:25.180 of people leaving Minnesota.
00:29:27.140 Tim Walls' Minnesota legacy
00:29:28.320 will likely be more
00:29:29.300 about his progressive policies,
00:29:30.720 failures, and controversies
00:29:31.740 than any substantive achievements.
00:29:33.500 His tenure stands
00:29:34.260 as a cautionary tale
00:29:35.120 of how poor leadership
00:29:36.220 and political opportunism
00:29:37.360 can lead to further crisis
00:29:38.780 and complete deletion
00:29:39.900 of public trust.
00:29:41.000 Not a great look
00:29:41.620 for a person seeking higher office.
00:29:43.500 In January 2024,
00:29:44.660 Walls joined many on the left
00:29:45.680 in downplaying concerns
00:29:46.540 about President Joe Biden's
00:29:47.500 mental fitness,
00:29:48.340 dismissing them at the time
00:29:49.360 as ageism.
00:29:50.320 I think he's just doing
00:29:51.360 what he does,
00:29:51.960 and I think it's kind of incumbent
00:29:53.160 upon all of us.
00:29:54.040 Look, my mom's 88,
00:29:55.580 still living on the farm,
00:29:56.680 drives herself.
00:29:58.460 Folks are able to do this,
00:29:59.640 so I think this little bit
00:30:00.460 of ageism that goes to this,
00:30:02.260 if it's not,
00:30:03.060 that would be something else.
00:30:03.860 This stance contradicted
00:30:04.780 pretty much all the evidence,
00:30:06.460 including a Rasmussen report
00:30:07.620 and Heartland Institute poll
00:30:08.620 showing more than 6 in 10 likely voters
00:30:10.420 believed Biden's mental decline
00:30:11.860 posed a national security threat.
00:30:13.440 Walls' dismissal of those concerns
00:30:14.780 further undermined his credibility,
00:30:16.340 especially as the truth
00:30:17.220 about Biden's cognitive challenges
00:30:18.680 became painfully clear
00:30:19.860 to Americans
00:30:20.360 over the course of the summer.
00:30:21.580 In the lead-up to Kamala Harris
00:30:22.580 selecting her running mate,
00:30:23.660 the progressive godfather himself,
00:30:24.940 Bernie Sanders,
00:30:25.660 vocally supported Tim Walls.
00:30:27.180 I'm very impressed by him.
00:30:28.500 I think you have
00:30:29.320 an excellent governor
00:30:30.380 who understands
00:30:31.420 the needs of working families,
00:30:33.460 and I hope very much
00:30:34.380 that the vice president
00:30:35.720 selects a running mate
00:30:37.760 who will speak up
00:30:39.080 and take on
00:30:39.780 powerful corporate interests,
00:30:41.520 and I think Tim Walls
00:30:42.460 is somebody who could do that.
00:30:43.960 Sanders emphasized that Walls,
00:30:45.260 a former teacher
00:30:45.780 and native of rural Nebraska,
00:30:47.140 would be a strong advocate
00:30:48.240 for taking on
00:30:48.880 public corporate interests
00:30:50.160 and representing
00:30:50.900 the working class.
00:30:51.700 That should have been
00:30:52.540 a giant,
00:30:53.540 red,
00:30:54.120 flashing,
00:30:54.740 cautionary signal.
00:30:55.960 Do not pass go.
00:30:57.100 Walls is not a centrist.
00:30:58.680 Walls has ventured
00:30:59.220 as far from his
00:30:59.940 Midwestern traditionalist roots
00:31:01.680 as one can.
00:31:02.600 Governor Walls,
00:31:03.440 are you a progressive
00:31:04.180 or are you a centrist?
00:31:06.140 I'm a progressive.
00:31:07.720 At his debut rally
00:31:08.640 in Philadelphia
00:31:09.220 as Kamala's new VP pick,
00:31:11.240 he passed in another opportunity
00:31:12.360 to call J.D. Vance,
00:31:13.400 the Republican vice
00:31:14.040 presidential nominee,
00:31:15.220 weird.
00:31:15.520 You know it,
00:31:16.520 you feel it.
00:31:17.440 These guys are creepy
00:31:18.500 and yes,
00:31:19.220 just weird as hell.
00:31:20.220 That's what you see.
00:31:21.580 That's what you see.
00:31:23.580 Which has been parroted
00:31:24.280 by Democrats
00:31:24.820 and the media establishment,
00:31:26.120 but I repeat myself,
00:31:27.040 for weeks.
00:31:27.620 Yeah, it's not,
00:31:28.140 I mean,
00:31:28.280 it's quite weird.
00:31:28.980 Just plain weird.
00:31:29.940 Just plain weird.
00:31:31.300 Really weird.
00:31:32.080 He's such a weirdo.
00:31:32.880 They're weird.
00:31:33.420 They are weird.
00:31:34.520 Republicans just being weird.
00:31:35.800 He said a lot of things
00:31:36.720 that are weird.
00:31:37.480 Just plain weird.
00:31:38.980 Walls is the person
00:31:39.660 who popularized the term weird
00:31:41.180 to refer to Republicans
00:31:41.980 in an interview
00:31:42.800 with Morning Joe.
00:31:43.760 After the assassination
00:31:44.520 attempt on President Trump,
00:31:45.880 caused in large part
00:31:46.800 by inflammatory rhetoric
00:31:47.720 of the left,
00:31:48.480 the Democrats found
00:31:49.100 themselves backfooted.
00:31:50.240 They needed a new strategy,
00:31:51.580 one less incendiary
00:31:52.400 but still critical.
00:31:53.500 Enter Tim Walls.
00:31:54.580 These are weird people
00:31:55.540 on the other side.
00:31:56.280 They want to take books away.
00:31:57.620 They want to be
00:31:58.080 in your exam room.
00:31:58.940 That's what it comes down to.
00:32:00.560 And don't, you know,
00:32:01.200 get sugarcoating this.
00:32:02.460 These are weird ideas.
00:32:03.600 Listen to them speak.
00:32:04.540 Listen to how they talk
00:32:05.180 about things.
00:32:05.900 Walls introduced the term weird
00:32:07.020 as a viral trend
00:32:07.800 to describe Republican Party
00:32:09.220 behavior policies and players.
00:32:10.500 The strange move was aimed
00:32:11.740 at appealing to younger generations,
00:32:13.300 especially Gen Z.
00:32:14.460 But this was a rather ironic choice
00:32:15.920 considering the long line
00:32:16.900 of strange and extreme actors
00:32:18.060 within his own party.
00:32:19.060 The truth is that nothing
00:32:19.820 is weirder than the current
00:32:20.940 Democratic Party.
00:32:21.860 It's key players.
00:32:22.640 It's policies.
00:32:23.480 It's followers.
00:32:24.400 Considering the alternatives,
00:32:25.500 Tim Walls is a perplexing choice
00:32:27.020 as running mate
00:32:27.920 for Kamala Harris.
00:32:28.920 In fact, the choice
00:32:29.440 is so perplexing
00:32:30.320 it raises some weird questions
00:32:31.620 about discrimination
00:32:32.340 in the selection process.
00:32:34.260 The frontrunner originally
00:32:35.320 for that VP nod
00:32:36.320 was Pennsylvania Governor
00:32:37.220 Josh Shapiro,
00:32:38.140 an extremely popular figure
00:32:39.480 in a swing state
00:32:40.360 62% approval rating.
00:32:42.180 Shapiro happens to be,
00:32:43.740 however, openly pro-Israel
00:32:45.140 and Jewish.
00:32:47.040 Kamala Harris could not
00:32:47.800 have that on the ticket
00:32:48.580 as she seeks to win over
00:32:49.860 the pro-Hamas radicals
00:32:51.260 in her base.
00:32:52.080 All of those radicals,
00:32:52.960 by the way,
00:32:53.260 were ecstatic about the Walls pick
00:32:54.520 for good reason.
00:32:55.240 It's Walls, baby!
00:32:56.460 Let's go!
00:32:57.560 High school teachers,
00:32:58.620 stand up!
00:32:59.280 He comes from a rural state.
00:33:01.300 He has been a champion
00:33:02.380 of the working class.
00:33:03.720 He's passed some
00:33:04.320 very good legislation.
00:33:05.520 He's a wonderful person,
00:33:08.300 just normal,
00:33:09.300 lovely,
00:33:10.040 wonderful guy.
00:33:11.480 Walls' selection
00:33:12.120 amplifies Kamala Harris'
00:33:13.620 own radicalism.
00:33:14.640 His own record
00:33:15.140 is riddled with flaws,
00:33:16.300 question marks,
00:33:17.060 history of flip-flopping,
00:33:18.040 poor decision-making,
00:33:18.840 ineffective leadership.
00:33:19.840 Rather than strengthening
00:33:20.660 the Democratic ticket,
00:33:21.800 Walls' presence bolsters
00:33:22.880 the Trump-Van's campaign
00:33:24.020 as the cracks in the
00:33:24.940 Harris-Walls team
00:33:25.520 are already beginning to show.
00:33:27.080 This is, without a doubt,
00:33:28.340 the most left-wing ticket
00:33:29.640 to ever enter
00:33:30.500 a presidential race.
00:33:31.420 The ideological extremity
00:33:33.380 of this ticket
00:33:34.120 will alienate moderate
00:33:35.300 and independent voters,
00:33:36.680 paving the way
00:33:37.140 for a Republican victory
00:33:37.940 in the fall.
