The Megyn Kelly Show - Comey Indicted Over ＂86 47,＂ Massive MN Fraud Raid, King Charles Addresses Congress： AM Update 4⧸29

00:00:00.000 Good morning, everyone. I'm Megan Kelly. It's Wednesday, April 29th, 2026, and this is your

00:00:08.060 AM update. I'm still innocent. I'm still not afraid. And I still believe in the independent

00:00:14.660 federal judiciary. So let's go. Former FBI Director James Comey indicted again by the

00:00:20.260 Trump Justice Department, this time over that bizarre seashell social media post from last

00:00:25.720 year. Federal agents launching a sweeping series of coordinated raids across Minnesota,

00:00:31.380 targeting dozens of Somali-run child care centers and businesses in a massive fraud probe.

00:00:37.060 A former top advisor to Dr. Anthony Fauci charged with conspiracy, accused of destroying

00:00:43.420 documents related to the coronavirus' origins. Whatever disagreements we may have, we stand

00:00:50.260 united in our commitment to uphold democracy. And King Charles III on Capitol Hill striking

00:00:57.460 a unifying tone in a rare and charming address to Congress. All that and more coming up in just

00:01:03.660 a moment on your AM update. Here's a question. How many brokers does it take to ensure your

00:01:13.340 business? If you are like most business owners, the answer is too many. Multiple policies,

00:01:18.920 multiple applications, no clear view of how it all fits together. And when questions come up,

00:01:23.520 it's not easy to get the clarity you need. My God, just the word insurance, it's like you cower in

00:01:28.280 fear. But SuperSure changes all that. Truly, listen to what they do. It's a one-stop shop

00:01:34.340 for all of your business insurance. You don't have to have this policy with that guy, this policy

00:01:39.200 with that gal. Try to figure it out when something goes wrong. Who do I call? Which policy is it?

00:01:42.940 What's included? What's not? This is backed by a team that's going to work with you year round,

00:01:47.300 not just at renewal. And if you've ever stared at a policy wondering what in God's name it

00:01:53.280 actually covers, SuperSure has a fine print fax tool that will translate the legal jargon

00:01:58.780 into plain English so you know what's covered and what's not. Right now, you can go to

00:02:03.540 supersure.com and get a full report on your current policies with zero obligation. Find

00:02:09.360 out if you're overinsured. Maybe you have too many policies or you've paid too much for them,

00:02:33.020 Insurance Agency, LLC, a licensed insurance company. Former FBI Director James Comey indicted

00:02:40.920 yesterday by the DOJ for a second time under the Trump administration, this time for an Instagram

00:02:46.260 post made by Comey last May. The post featuring a picture of seashells arranged to resemble the

00:02:52.420 numbers 86-47. In gang slang, 86 means to get rid of or possibly kill someone, while in restaurant

00:03:01.100 slang it refers to canceling an order or being out of an item or to refuse someone's service or

00:03:06.320 to kick them out. 47, of course, a reference to President Trump, the 47th president.

00:03:12.140 Comey captioning the image, quote, cool shell formation on my beach walk. The post quickly

00:03:17.260 drawing condemnation from many Trump supporters, Donald Trump Jr. posting at the time, quote,

00:03:22.640 just James Comey casually calling for my dad to be murdered. This is who the Dem media worships,

00:03:28.260 demented. Comey deleting the post several hours later, uploading a new statement, quote,

00:03:33.380 I posted earlier a picture of some shells I saw on a beach walk, which I assumed were a political

00:03:39.820 message. I didn't realize some folks associate those numbers with violence. It never occurred

00:03:45.140 to me, but I oppose violence of any kind, so I took the post down. Comey making several media

00:03:51.180 appearances in the following weeks, coinciding with a book tour, defending the post as a

00:03:56.160 misunderstanding. Yesterday, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announcing the charges

00:04:01.040 against Comey. A grand jury sitting in the Eastern District of North Carolina returned

00:04:05.920 an indictment against James Comey on two counts. The first count is that on or about May 15th of

00:04:13.640 last year, he knowingly and willfully making a threat to take the life of and to inflict

00:04:18.720 bodily harm upon the president of the United States. Count two, same day, May 15th, 2025,

00:04:25.740 that the defendant James Comey knowingly and willfully transmitting in interstate commerce

00:04:31.320 a communication that contained a threat to kill the president of the United States. Both of these

00:04:37.080 counts carry a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years. So I think it's fair to say that

00:04:43.140 threatening the life of anybody is dangerous and potentially a crime. Threatening the life of

00:04:51.480 the president of the United States will never be tolerated by the Department of Justice.

00:04:56.960 A DOJ press release clarifying that Comey faces 10 years total behind bars.

00:05:02.420 A.G. Blanche pointing to a string of similar cases involving threats against public officials,

00:05:07.360 stressing that while this indictment may draw attention because of the defendant's name,

00:05:12.020 the alleged conduct is not unique. Blanche stressing this type of behavior will not be

00:05:16.640 tolerated by the DOJ and will continue to be investigated and prosecuted aggressively.

00:05:21.480 The case assigned to President George W. Bush appointed Judge Louise W. Flanagan of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

00:05:30.940 The grand jury also reportedly issuing an arrest warrant. It is unclear if Comey will be allowed to self-surrender.

00:05:37.820 A.G. Blanche telling reporters yesterday the DOJ would be in touch with Comey's legal team on the matter.

00:05:43.160 Yesterday afternoon, the former FBI director responding to the indictment in a video posted to his substack.

00:05:49.580 Well, they're back.

00:05:50.720 This time about a picture of seashells on a North Carolina beach a year ago.

00:05:56.840 And this won't be the end of it.

00:05:58.840 But nothing has changed with me.

00:06:00.400 I'm still innocent.

00:06:02.100 I'm still not afraid.

00:06:04.160 And I still believe in the independent federal judiciary.

00:06:07.060 So let's go.

00:06:08.320 But it's really important that all of us remember this is not who we are as a country.

00:06:13.780 This is not how the Department of Justice is supposed to be.

00:06:16.600 And the good news is we get closer every day to restoring those values.

00:06:23.240 Keep the faith.

00:06:24.800 CNN senior legal analyst, Ellie Honig, a former federal prosecutor, does not think much of the case.

00:06:31.120 I think this indictment is deeply flawed.

00:06:33.740 I think it's probably fatally flawed.

00:06:35.600 And here's why.

00:06:36.280 The law that Justice Department prosecutors have chosen to charge here requires an intent to kill or physically injure the president of the United States.

00:06:45.020 And I think if you look at this communication, these seashells, it's just way too ambiguous.

00:06:50.360 What does 86 mean?

00:06:52.180 Yes, there have been instances in pop culture and elsewhere where people have used 86 to

00:06:56.700 mean kill, but there have been plenty of other instances, apparently far more instances where

00:07:01.440 it simply means to remove or to cross off a list.

00:07:04.720 And that ambiguity is going to be a major problem for prosecutors, because I will tell

00:07:09.180 you, ambiguity is always the enemy of the prosecutors, because you have to prove your

00:07:14.360 case, not just by 51% or 75%, you have to prove your case beyond a reasonable doubt. And I don't

00:07:20.900 see any realistic way prosecutors are going to be able to do that here. Mike Davis, attorney and

00:07:26.620 former law clerk to Justice Gorsuch, as well as the founder of the Article 3 project, sees it

00:07:32.140 differently. James Comey is the former director of the FBI. He clearly knows that saying 8647,

00:07:40.260 promoting that on Instagram is a clear threat. And this was after the second assassination

00:07:47.340 attempt against President Trump. James Comey did this. I think it was long past time for

00:07:53.860 the Justice Department to step in. In September, a grand jury in Virginia

00:07:58.200 indicting the former FBI director, accusing him of lying to Congress and obstructing a 2020

00:08:03.860 investigation tied to his testimony. That indictment dismissed in November after a judge

00:08:08.700 ruled, Prosecutor Lindsay Halligan was improperly appointed. The DOJ is appealing that dismissal.

00:08:16.640 Federal law enforcement executing a sweeping series of coordinated raids across Minnesota

00:08:22.280 yesterday, part of an investigation into ongoing alleged fraud on a massive scale.

00:08:28.160 Federal agents carrying out at least 22 court-authorized search warrants fanning out across

00:08:33.320 the Minneapolis area early in the morning. Roughly 20 child care centers among the targets,

00:08:38.920 according to CBS News, along with other businesses tied to the Somali-American community.

00:08:44.320 Agents seen removing boxes of evidence from various businesses throughout the community.

00:08:49.080 The DOJ confirming to Fox News the warrants are part of a larger fraud probe,

00:08:53.100 not immigration enforcement, as authorities focus on alleged abuse of taxpayer-funded programs.

00:08:59.500 Among the locations searched, the Quality Leering Center, a Minneapolis daycare previously flagged in a viral investigation late last year by YouTuber Nick Shirley.

00:09:11.260 So this is Quality Leering Center. I meant to say Quality Learning Center. They spelt learning wrong.

00:09:18.820 Shirley visiting multiple Somali-run child care and health facilities, receiving public funds and raising questions about services being billed but not provided.

00:09:27.120 the viral video drawing national attention. The raids marking the latest escalation in a

00:09:32.860 sweeping federal probe into alleged abuse of taxpayer-funded child care and social service

00:09:38.120 programs. Since 2021, more than 90 people charged in COVID fraud schemes tied to federally funded

00:09:44.660 programs, including meal services and autism support, with dozens already convicted and

00:09:50.460 losses estimated as high as $19 billion. The Trump administration now making fraud enforcement a

00:09:56.980 central priority, with President Trump declaring a war on fraud during his February State of the

00:10:02.220 Union. Vice President J.D. Vance tapped last month to lead a federal task force. The VP writing

00:10:08.360 yesterday on X, quote, the task force and the DOJ will be relentless in exposing these fraudsters

00:10:13.580 wherever they may be hiding. No arrests were made yesterday in connection with the raids.

00:10:19.200 Democrat Governor of Minnesota Tim Walz, who dropped his re-election campaign earlier this

00:10:23.800 year amid heavy criticism of his inability to crack down on fraud, taking credit for yesterday's

00:10:30.020 operations. The governor posting to X, quote, today's raids by state and federal law enforcement

00:10:36.280 happened because our state agencies caught irregular behavior and reported it. That's how

00:10:42.380 the system is supposed to work, and our agencies will keep at it as long as there are fraudsters

00:10:47.520 around to put behind bars. FBI Director Cash Patel countering on X, quote, this FBI and DOJ

00:10:54.540 with our DHS partners drafted and executed every search warrant today. But go ahead and take credit

00:11:00.380 for our work while we smoke out the fraud plaguing Minnesota under your governorship.

00:11:06.660 Coming up, a former top advisor to Dr. Anthony Fauci indicted, accused of hiding COVID-era

00:11:12.580 communications from investigators. And King Charles III addresses Congress with a message

00:11:18.340 focused on unity and shared history. What does it feel like when your clothes actually feel good?

00:12:33.180 Dr. Anthony Fauci's former senior advisor at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious

00:12:41.060 Diseases, David Morins, indicted by the DOJ for allegedly using his personal email to hide

00:12:48.220 communications about COVID-19 from investigators seeking records under the Freedom of Information

00:12:54.360 Act, or FOIA. 78-year-old Morins charged with one count of conspiracy against the United States,

00:13:00.900 two counts of destruction, alteration, or falsification of records in federal investigations,

00:13:06.880 and two counts of concealment, removal, or mutilation of records.

00:13:11.100 The indictment unsealed Monday by the District Court in Maryland referencing two unnamed

00:13:16.200 co-conspirators also accused of concealing and destroying federal records to evade FOIA.

00:13:22.420 The indictment suggesting the unnamed co-conspirators are Dr. Peter Daszak,

00:13:27.220 president of the New York-based nonprofit EcoHealth Alliance, and Dr. Gerald Koish,

00:13:33.740 a former associate director at Boston University and a National Institutes of Health, or NIH,

00:13:40.480 grant recipient. In the early days of the pandemic, hundreds of FOIA requests pouring in,

00:13:46.540 many seeking information about a 2014 NIH grant overseen by Morin's that was awarded to EcoHealth

00:13:53.380 Alliance and then funneled to the Wuhan Institute of Virology for dangerous bat coronavirus research,

00:14:00.740 the kind that tries to make a virus more lethal, ostensibly, to then find a way to counteract it.

00:14:06.460 The funding cut off in April 2020 after the NIH initiated a review into claims the pandemic 0.87

00:14:13.140 may have originated in that Wuhan lab. According to the indictment, Morins and his associates used

00:14:19.540 personal email accounts instead of official government ones to keep certain discussions,

00:14:25.180 including about COVID research, funding decisions, and messaging about the virus's origin,

00:14:31.520 hidden from records requests. The indictment alleging that on or about February 24th, 2021,

00:14:38.480 Morin's emailing his co-conspirators, quote, I learned from our FOIA lady here how to make

00:14:43.200 emails disappear after I am FOIA'd, but before the search starts, so I think we are all safe.

00:14:50.100 Plus, I deleted most of those earlier emails after sending them to Gmail.

00:14:54.740 The indictment including many more examples of similar emails from this guy. Prosecutors also

00:15:00.200 alleging Morin's illegally accepted gifts from Daszak. In June 2020, Daszak delivering two bottles

00:15:06.480 of wine to Morin's home, including this message, quote, this is the first of what I hope will be a

00:15:11.680 continued series of expressions of gratitude for your advice, support, and behind-the-scenes

00:15:17.520 shenanigans in my battle against your boss's boss, his boss, and the ultimate boss on the hill.

00:15:24.740 Morin's later writing an email from his personal account to Daszak, thanking him for the wine and

00:15:29.400 adding, quote, now I am actually going to have to do something to deserve it. Shortly after that,

00:15:34.540 the indictment alleges Morin's submitted a paper to a, quote, prominent medical journal backing

00:15:40.000 the theory that COVID-19 came from nature, not from a Wuhan lab where EcoHealth Alliance was

00:15:46.920 working with the Chinese on bat coronavirus research. Morins, appearing before the House

00:15:52.580 Oversight Committee in 2024, questioned by lawmakers about many of these emails. Here,

00:15:58.360 an exchange with Congresswoman Jill Takuda, Democrat from Hawaii.

00:16:02.500 Dr. Morins, did you ever conduct government business through your personal email account?

00:16:07.900 Not intentionally.

00:16:10.980 Unintentionally or not, did you conduct government business through your personal email account?

00:16:15.240 Well, some of the emails I've seen that you all have provided look pretty incriminating.

00:16:20.040 I don't know what they are. I don't remember them.

00:16:21.640 But yes, it looks like I made a mistake on more than one occasion.

00:16:25.540 But it certainly wasn't my intention to do that.

00:16:27.980 The FBI investigation into Morin's, a result of a criminal referral sent by the House Select Committee on the coronavirus pandemic to the DOJ in 2024.

00:16:38.340 Morin's appearing in court for the first time on Monday, a judge ordering his release pending trial on the condition that he turn over his passport by Wednesday and avoid all contact with his co-conspirators.

00:16:49.280 He is set to be arraigned sometime next week. If convicted on all charges, Morin's could face up to 51 years in prison.

00:16:57.980 King Charles III delivering a joint address to Congress yesterday, becoming only the second British monarch to do so.

00:17:05.500 The first, his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II in 1991.

00:17:10.140 The king in good humor, offering quite a few moments of levity.

00:17:14.000 This is a city which symbolizes a period in our shared history, or what Charles Dickens might have called a tale of two Georges.

00:17:23.880 the first president george washington and my five times great-grandfather king george the third

00:17:31.360 king george as you know never set foot in america and um please rest assured

00:17:38.360 ladies and gentlemen i am not here as part of some cunning rear guard action

00:17:43.280 as oscar wilde said we have really everything in common with america nowadays except of course

00:17:52.880 language. 250 years ago, or as we say in the United Kingdom, just the other day.

00:18:02.720 The king and his wife, Queen Camilla, in the middle of a four-day state visit to America.

00:18:07.820 Early in his remarks, Charles referencing the assassination attempt on President Trump and

00:18:12.000 other cabinet officials at Saturday's White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington.

00:18:16.260 We meet, too, in the aftermath of the incident not far from this great building.

00:18:22.880 that sought to harm the leadership of your nation and to foment wider fear and discord.

00:18:30.440 Let me say with unshakable resolve, such acts of violence will never succeed.

00:18:39.320 Whatever our differences, whatever disagreements we may have,

00:18:44.380 we stand united in our commitment to uphold democracy,

00:18:49.620 to protect all our people from harm

00:18:52.780 and to salute the courage of those

00:18:56.540 who daily risk their lives

00:18:58.380 in the service of our countries.

00:19:01.240 The King's remarks coming as President Trump

00:19:03.280 clashes with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer

00:19:05.800 and other NATO allies over their reluctance

00:19:08.500 to back the US in its ongoing war with Iran.

00:19:12.200 Against that backdrop, much of the King's speech

00:19:14.300 focusing on the long shared history

00:19:16.740 and deep bond between the U.S. and the U.K.

00:19:19.740 The story of the United Kingdom and the United States

00:19:23.840 is at its heart a story of reconciliation, renewal and remarkable partnership.

00:19:32.180 From the bitter divisions of 250 years ago,

00:19:36.020 we forged a friendship that has grown into one of the most consequential alliances in human history.

00:19:42.840 I pray with all my heart that our alliance will continue to defend our shared values

00:19:49.840 with our partners in Europe and the Commonwealth and across the world.

00:19:56.380 And that we ignore the clarion calls to become ever more inward looking.

00:20:02.420 Last night, President Trump and the First Lady hosting a state dinner in honor of the King and Queen.

00:20:07.420 I want to congratulate Charles on having made a fantastic speech today at Congress.

00:20:15.240 He got the Democrats to stand. I've never been able to do that.

00:20:22.160 And that'll do it for your AM update. I'm Megan Kelly. Join me back here for the MK Show.
