00:00:30.000 Good morning, everyone. I'm Megan Kelly.
00:00:35.600 It's Thursday, August 21st, 2025, and this is your AM Update.
00:00:40.140 We don't have to live like this.
00:00:41.780 We do not have to allow our cities to be taken over by violence,
00:00:45.260 by the border, by chaos.
00:00:47.180 New D.C. crime data showing President Trump's federal takeover of local police
00:00:51.320 is having the desired effect as the D.O.J. launches an investigation
00:00:55.120 into whether D.C. police have been manipulating the data
00:00:58.520 to make their city seem safer than it is.
00:01:01.800 Elon Musk reportedly dialing back plans to form a new political party.
00:01:05.740 At that point, I kind of had a very bad feeling that we weren't searching for a child in the area.
00:01:12.040 One week after California baby Emanuel vanished,
00:01:14.800 neighbors are speaking out about strange behavior by his parents.
00:01:18.520 All that and more coming up in just a moment on your AM Update.
00:01:21.800 As President Trump is settling into his new administration,
00:01:28.220 one of the top Democrats in Congress aiming to undermine the Trump agenda
00:01:31.500 is Democrat Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois.
00:01:34.700 And according to our sponsor, the Electronic Payments Coalition,
00:01:38.540 Senator Durbin has a new plan, a government takeover of your credit card.
00:01:43.140 Today, Americans have thousands of choices in credit cards,
00:01:45.940 but they say Senator Durbin's plan will result in less competition and less security,
00:01:50.920 which means more risk for your credit and your identity.
00:01:54.560 You can learn more for yourself at guardyourcard.com.
00:01:58.280 And you could consider telling your senators to stop
00:02:01.120 Dick Durbin's government takeover of your credit card before it's too late.
00:02:05.420 D.C. crime reportedly dropping significantly following President Trump's federal takeover
00:02:13.340 of the police department and deployment of the National Guard,
00:02:17.100 as the DOJ confirms an investigation into whether D.C. police fudged crime statistics in the past.
00:02:23.740 The president declaring a public crime emergency early last week under the D.C. Home Rule Act,
00:02:29.100 which grants the president the power to take control of the city's police force.
00:02:32.340 The D.C. police union touting the results of the president's crackdown so far.
00:02:37.580 Overall crime is down 8 percent.
00:02:39.900 Robbery down 46 percent.
00:02:41.980 Assault with a deadly weapon down 6 percent.
00:02:44.520 Carjacking down 83 percent.
00:02:46.500 Car theft down 21 percent.
00:02:48.940 Violent crime down 22 percent.
00:02:50.680 And property crime down 6 percent.
00:02:53.220 Vice President J.D. Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth,
00:02:56.100 and Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller on Wednesday
00:02:58.680 taking a victory lap of sorts,
00:03:01.000 serving lunch to National Guardsmen and police officers posted at Union Station.
00:03:06.480 The once opulent train station overrun with mentally ill and sometimes violent homeless people
00:03:11.660 in recent years, a symbol of the district's decline.
00:03:15.280 A small group of protesters greeting the delegation upon arrival.
00:03:19.240 Vice President Vance appealing to critics of the president's crime crackdown.
00:03:22.800 We don't have to live like this.
00:03:24.900 We do not have to allow our cities to be taken over by violence and by disorder and by chaos.
00:03:30.300 You can actually do stuff.
00:03:31.920 You can actually bring law and order to communities.
00:03:36.480 You've just got to have the political willpower to do it.
00:03:39.100 And I think you hear these guys outside here screaming at us. 0.99
00:03:42.120 Of course, these are a bunch of crazy protesters.
00:03:44.500 But I'll tell you, a couple of years ago, when I brought my kids here, 0.97
00:03:48.040 they were being screamed at by violent vagrants.
00:03:52.100 And it was scaring the hell out of my kids.
00:03:54.340 And one of the things that we've done already in Union Station in just nine days
00:03:57.860 is we've made it a place where people can walk around safely.
00:04:00.860 They can bring their kids again.
00:04:02.220 And I think if we set a standard in Washington, D.C.,
00:04:05.160 that political willpower can bring some common sense law and order back to these communities,
00:04:09.800 then maybe some other communities and other cities of Antalas do.
00:04:12.760 Some on the left calling the crackdown an unnecessary power grab,
00:04:17.100 citing metropolitan police data showing a 35 percent drop in violent crime in 2024
00:04:22.060 and an additional 25 percent drop through August 2025.
00:04:27.160 However, on Wednesday, the DOJ announcing a federal probe
00:04:30.420 into whether the police department manipulated the crime data
00:04:33.680 to make the city seem safer than it really is.
00:04:36.960 That investigation reportedly to be led by U.S. Attorney for D.C.
00:04:40.720 Janine Pirro's office.
00:04:41.940 Police commander Michael Pulliam reportedly placed on paid leave in May
00:04:46.880 amid an internal investigation into allegations he changed crime data
00:04:51.400 to downplay the severity of the crisis, an accusation Pulliam denies.
00:04:56.620 D.C. Police Union Chairman Greg Pemberton Tuesday on Fox detailing how crime data are being manipulated.
00:05:02.940 One of the chief complaints of our members when we go around and talk to them is that they respond to the scenes of these violent crimes.
00:05:09.460 And inevitably, you'll have a captain or a commander or sometimes a lieutenant show up on the scene
00:05:14.780 and advise them to take a report for a lesser offense.
00:05:18.460 One of the things that we see them do often is sometimes there'll be a shooting or a stabbing.
00:05:22.760 And if the victim is uncooperative with the police, which is not uncommon in some areas of the city,
00:05:27.980 they'll be directed to take an injured person to the hospital report, which is not even a crime at all.
00:05:32.520 It's an incident report.
00:05:33.920 Sometimes you'll have a robbery.
00:05:35.460 It'll be reported as a theft.
00:05:37.340 Other times you'll have burglaries that are reported as unlawful entry or thefts.
00:05:42.000 This is something that's been, unfortunately, part and parcel of the police department for some time.
00:05:47.440 And we're very skeptical that these crime stats are accurate.
00:05:51.160 Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche reacting Tuesday on Fox.
00:05:55.040 The reality is that we know that D.C. has been an incredibly unsafe place to live for a very long time.
00:06:02.940 And so in some ways, it's not surprising that we hear about reports of this type of conduct
00:06:09.420 that suggests that D.C. is safer than everybody that lives here knows to be true.
00:06:14.200 So we're investigating it, and hopefully we'll get to the bottom of it at some point soon.
00:06:22.060 Elon Musk reportedly backpedaling now on plans to create a new political party,
00:06:27.220 instead eyeing Vice President J.D. Vance for a possible presidential run in 2028.
00:06:32.200 Musk in July announcing the creation of the America Party,
00:06:36.600 a new third party in direct response to his falling out with President Donald Trump
00:06:40.860 over the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
00:06:43.280 Musk blasting the bill, particularly its impact on the deficit, as a fiscal disaster,
00:06:48.640 concerns Republicans dismiss as inaccurate and based on flawed calculation methods.
00:06:53.560 The first buddy's bromance unraveling quickly,
00:06:56.500 Musk officially leaving his White House role in May with a glowing Oval Office send-off
00:07:00.960 before the feud got more intense on X, the social media platform Musk owns.
00:07:05.940 When the Big Beautiful Bill passed in July, Musk doubling down on plans to create a third party,
00:07:11.620 posting to X, quote,
00:07:12.620 When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste and graft,
00:07:16.060 we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.
00:07:19.360 Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.
00:07:23.520 Such a move would likely hurt Republican chances at the polls in future midterm and presidential elections,
00:07:29.060 chipping away at the Republican base, handing power to Democrats.
00:07:32.900 In recent weeks, Trump administration officials softening their feud with the world's richest man,
00:07:37.660 even signaling hopes for reconciliation.
00:07:41.120 Mr. Trump from the Oval in early August.
00:07:43.640 A new Gallup poll says that Elon Musk is the most unpopular public figure in the country right now.
00:07:50.660 I'm wondering, do you miss having him around the White House or is that poll accurate?
00:07:55.480 I don't know if the poll's accurate.
00:07:57.120 I think he's a good person.
00:07:58.320 I think he had a bad moment, really bad moment.
00:08:01.400 But he's a good person.
00:08:03.320 I think, I believe that.
00:08:04.280 Vice President J.D. Vance in an interview with the Gateway Pundit a week and a half ago.
00:08:09.540 He's obviously got a complicated relationship right now with the Trump White House, though.
00:08:13.980 My argument to Elon is, like, you're not going to be on the left, right?
00:08:19.600 Even if you wanted to be, and he doesn't, they're not going to have you back.
00:08:22.780 That ship has sailed.
00:08:24.940 And so I really think it's a mistake for him to try to break from the president.
00:08:29.260 So my hope is that by the time of the midterms, he's kind of come back into the poll.
00:08:32.300 But again, my hope is that just kind of culls down a little bit because he did help us a lot in the election.
00:08:37.340 The president even says all his frustration.
00:08:39.940 Elon was a very critical part of the team last election.
00:08:43.880 And so my hope is by the midterms, things are kind of back to normal.
00:08:48.440 Beyond the July post, there is little indication Musk ever took steps to build a third party.
00:08:53.580 A supposed FEC filing vanished within days of appearing on the website.
00:08:57.580 The Wall Street Journal reporting the Tesla CEO is telling allies that he wants to focus attention on his companies and is reluctant to start a third party that could alienate Republicans.
00:09:08.920 Musk, quote, has been focused in part on maintaining ties with Vice President J.D. Vance, who is widely seen as a potential heir to the MAGA political movement.
00:09:17.360 Musk has stayed in touch with Vance in recent weeks, and he has acknowledged to associates that if he goes ahead with forming a political party, he would damage his relationship with the vice president.
00:09:27.580 The Tesla CEO reportedly considering backing the VP with financial resources if Mr. Vance decides to run in 2028.
00:09:37.020 That's still a long way out, but early polling indicates Mr. Vance is in the lead for the GOP nomination.
00:09:43.660 Polling from McLaughlin and associates consistently showing the vice president leading the 2028 Republican primary field by double digits.
00:09:51.060 Coming up, neighbors of missing baby Emmanuel Harrow calling out the unusual behavior they say they saw from parents Jake and Rebecca as investigators follow up on leads one week after the baby's disappearance.
00:10:06.540 And Hurricane Aaron churning through the Atlantic as forecasters warn this thing will remain a powerful storm throughout the week.
00:10:13.140 You know the feeling someone in your family gets sick and then you're stuck waiting for a doctor's appointment or the pharmacy's out of stock and then you're left wondering why something so basic has to be so hard.
00:10:27.820 Too many American families face this reality, and this is why many are turning to all-family pharmacy.
00:10:34.440 They're doing what big pharma won't, which is putting families back in control and making it possible to be proactive, not reactive with your health.
00:10:41.760 This is not just some online pharmacy.
00:10:44.680 All-family pharmacy is based in Florida and family-owned, and there you can order ivermectin, hydroxychloroquine, antibiotics, daily maintenance meds, emergency kits, everything you'd want to have on hand before you need it.
00:10:58.160 You know, you're going on like a trip.

00:11:04.880 Order online and they will work with licensed doctors to provide the prescription for you.
00:11:08.560 Then your medications get shipped right to your door.

00:11:31.500 An AM update exclusive in the case of missing baby Emmanuel Harrow, the seven-month-old California boy whose mother says he was kidnapped from a store parking lot by an unknown person who allegedly knocked her out.
00:11:48.560 Police say the mother, Rebecca Harrow, and father, Jake Harrow, have stopped cooperating after inconsistencies in Rebecca's story were raised with her by police.
00:11:59.480 Rebecca's mother says Jake stopped Rebecca from taking a polygraph, insisting she should first get a lawyer.
00:12:05.880 And while Jake has since lawyered up, Rebecca has not.
00:12:10.200 Baby Emmanuel has not been seen since at least one week ago today.
00:12:15.060 Police say they have no suspects and that no one has been ruled out, including the parents.
00:12:19.680 They searched the family home, including with cadaver dogs.
00:12:23.200 Late last night, a shocking development.
00:12:26.000 AM update obtaining court records from Riverside County, California, reflecting a potentially explosive turn in the case.
00:12:33.420 Jake Harrow just hit with a motion for a protective order by one of his ex-wives, who says she now fears for the safety of their shared child, a boy named Eli.
00:12:45.700 On Tuesday, Isabel Gonzalez filing a motion for a protective order, both a temporary one and a longer-standing injunction, against her ex, Jake Harrow, 0.55
00:12:56.780 naming their son Eli as the party in need of protection and alleging as the basis for the motion,
00:13:02.600 quote, domestic violence with children.
00:13:06.180 The docket does not reflect any response yet from Jake, nor what specifically Isabel means by suggesting domestic violence with children as the alleged justification for the restraining order.
00:13:18.560 KESQ-TV reporting that on Wednesday, Jake and his current wife, Rebecca, were seen leaving juvenile court in Riverside County,
00:13:26.760 though the news organization was unable to say why they had been there.
00:13:31.240 The docket reflects that Isabel's request for a temporary restraining order was denied,
00:13:36.620 while a hearing on the request for a preliminary injunction against Jake Harrow has been set for early September.
00:13:42.960 As AM Update reported earlier this week, in 2023, Jake's second wife, Vanessa Harrow, to whom Jake was apparently married after Isabel,
00:13:53.980 pleaded guilty, as did Jake Harrow, to abusing their 10-week-old baby girl,
00:13:59.620 a crime for which Jake Harrow remains on probation to this day, probation he's accused of violating.
00:14:06.140 In other developments, the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department confirming to AM Update that the vehicle seized by investigators this week
00:14:14.740 is the same one Rebecca Harrow drove to the sporting goods store,
00:14:19.680 where she says she was knocked out by, quote,
00:14:22.540 someone who said,
00:14:23.900 Ola, and then took her baby. 1.00
00:14:26.400 News Nation on Tuesday interviewing San Bernardino County resident Heather Walker.
00:14:31.100 Ms. Walker attended a Sunday vigil in honor of Emanuel.
00:14:34.160 She says parents Jake and Rebecca were not in attendance and has major doubts about Rebecca's story.
00:14:40.220 I personally saw the mother Rebecca at the day of the, they were hosting a search party,
00:14:47.160 and I went to do the search party with them,
00:14:51.160 and I just thought it was very strange that she was walking to her car just fine,
00:14:56.180 or a car in the parking lot just fine,
00:14:58.520 and then the news vehicles started coming in,
00:15:02.140 and then she limped away. 0.99
00:15:04.340 So at that point, I kind of had a very bad feeling that we weren't searching for a child in the area.
00:15:11.620 Investigators on Wednesday confirming they have followed up on alleged reported sightings of baby Emanuel.
00:15:18.360 One alleged sighting reportedly from Kern County, California,
00:15:21.820 roughly three and a half hours from the Harrow home in Cabazon.
00:15:24.840 We've seen in other missing baby cases that the vast majority of these so-called sightings wind up being false leads.
00:15:33.020 An attorney for Jake Harrow named Vincent Hughes appearing on News Nation Tuesday night saying his client has offered to cooperate with police.
00:15:42.000 I spoke to the detectives yesterday, offered for Jake to continue to speak with them,
00:15:46.300 have not been made aware of any requests today to speak with Jake.
00:15:48.880 I don't represent Rebecca, that needs to be very clear,
00:15:51.520 but I have not been asked to produce Jake.
00:15:53.720 The Sheriff's Department on Wednesday releasing a statement that reads,
00:15:57.800 While Emanuel's father has retained an attorney,
00:16:00.500 if the parents choose to work with detectives,
00:16:02.520 we welcome their cooperation as we continue efforts to locate Emanuel.
00:16:07.200 Authorities also responding to reports of a house fire at a neighbor's property near the Harrow home,
00:16:12.560 saying,
00:16:13.000 At this time, we have no information indicating the fire is related to the investigation,
00:16:17.720 and we will continue to communicate with fire investigators as their investigation progresses.
00:16:22.340 The San Bernardino Sheriff's Department urging anyone with information to call 9-1-1 or their office at 909-890-4904.
00:16:33.920 North Carolina declaring a state of emergency Wednesday in preparation for the impact of Hurricane Aaron.
00:16:39.780 As of the Wednesday evening advisory, the storm at Category 2 with 110-mile-per-hour winds running nearly parallel up the U.S. east coast,
00:16:49.760 forcing evacuations of more than 2,200 North Carolina coastal residents.
00:16:54.060 The National Hurricane Center issuing tropical storm warnings from coastal North Carolina up through southeastern Virginia,
00:17:00.340 as forecasters anticipate waves of 15 to 20 feet along the outer banks and hazardous surf spreading well beyond the Carolinas,
00:17:08.820 with possible flooding to a dozen states.
00:17:11.520 National Hurricane Center Director Dr. Michael Brennan warning that even though Aaron's center is offshore,
00:17:17.180 its massive size will drive dangerous conditions for days.
00:17:20.440 Despite the fact that the core of Aaron is going to pass well offshore of the North Carolina coast as it turns northeastward
00:17:26.860 and then east northeastward as you go from Wednesday into Thursday,
00:17:29.800 the forecast size of the tropical storm force winds that currently extend out over 265 miles from the center,
00:17:36.380 that wind field is going to continue to grow, bringing tropical storm conditions,
00:17:40.380 dangerous wave conditions to the North Carolina outer banks,
00:17:42.940 and that big risk of rip currents along the entire east coast from south Florida all the way up through southern New England
00:17:48.380 at a high risk of rip currents, moderate risk up into northern New England.
00:17:52.300 So please, it's not going to be safe to get out into the ocean along much of the United States east coast today
00:17:56.860 and through much of the rest of this week.
00:17:59.480 Authorities reportedly making about 60 rescues in North Carolina alone this week
00:18:03.720 as Aaron fuels rip currents and dangerous waves from Florida all the way up to Canada.
00:18:09.320 The storm expected to remain powerful through the end of the week.
00:18:15.460 And that'll do it for your AM update.

00:18:31.540 What are the new technologies that will change aviation?
00:18:36.020 Well, hydrogen would be one for sure if we got there.
00:18:38.300 I mean, hydrogen is not just a alternative fuel.
00:18:41.640 I mean, hydrogen would change it significantly if we ever managed to break the back of that.
